Co-op RC game Wheelmates gets its first public demo, with a big dash of It Takes Two energy
Wheelmates, a co-op driving game that puts you and a friend behind the wheel of a pair of RC cars in the house of an eccentric scientist, has unveiled a new demo as part of the Future Games Show Summer Showcase.
Stumbling into the home of a missing scientist, you quickly find that he's not really missing at all. In fact, he's uploaded himself into his own house, but he needs you to help him out. Unfortunately, you can't do that in your normal human body - instead, you need to take control of a pair of remote-controlled cars, using them to zip around the house, solving puzzles to free your unfortunate overlord.
The new demo, which is out now on Steam, offers up a brand-new area that wasn't available in the first public playtest, which took place earlier this year. After you get to grips with your new mechanical selves in the Kitchen, you'll be able to access the Garage, exploring and using power-ups like magnet grab and rope swing to solve puzzles and uncover secrets.
There's a strong sense of what made It Takes Two such a big hit a few years ago, and that extends to Wheelmates' co-op gameplay. With a friend in the car beside you - either in local, split-screen co-op - you're exploring a familiar world that you've recently become just a little too small for, working together to help undo whatever's locked the scientist owner away.
Wheelmates doesn't have a firm release date just yet, but it's expected to launch later this year on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, where you can download the demo right now.
