Trials HD

It hurts so good

It’s a game from the eighties powered by technology from the twenty-first century – a 2D, side-scrolling motorbike racing game with ramps, loops, and jumps to tackle, all powered by supermodern physics and running in delicious HD. Yum.

At first it’s a game of sheer high-speed joy where the tracks themselves guide you to victory, where gentle tweaks and weight shifts will guide you cleanly through to the finish line. Later it’s a sadistic festival of torture, filled with hills so steep and elevation changes so cruel you’ll have to master every intricacy of balance and every trick to get an inch or two more out of every jump. It’s a game where you’ll succeed in the tiniest increments and attempt single jumps hundreds of times.

But you’ll never hold it against Trials; there’s too much here and so much of it is good. If the races crush your spirit there’s always the skill games – riding inside giant steel balls, ski-jumps, bone-breaking challenges – to try. If the skill games are too tough you can build your own tracks to ride and download courses from your friends. It’s a game so rammed with things to unlock, customize, and ride it could have been banged on a disc for full-price and it would still get our highest awards.

Played the trial (heh), and I loved it. Definitely going to be my next Arcade purchase after Shadow Complex.

Strange enough,I haven't heard anything on 1Up's and Giantbomb's podcast about this game (I listen to Talk Radar, but not for "information" but for entertainment.) I played the trial and was thunderstruck on why no one was talking about this? Its really good.

Agreed, such a good game and a must have for racing enthusiasts. Tis a shame it will go mostly overlooked. 2nd favorite summer of arcade title after 'Splosion Man, altho it will probably get pushed to 3rd when Shadow Complex comes out!

This game is really addicting. The visuals, controls, handling, all great. The satisfaction you get when you try and try again just to land that perfect jump.

I thought this game sucked when I first tried the demo, but I then gave it a second chance. It's now in my collection where it deserves to be, this game is sick!!

This game has an insane difficulty curve starting somewhere in the medium difficulty. From that point on when you fail that last little ant hill to the finish line you feel it...hard...right in your balls, man. But everyone should get this game ASAP and enjoy the hell out of it, it's Excitebike 2009 for gods sakes! Or Unbeatable Banzuke for motocross, whichever one will make you get it! This game should not be missed! Also about the article, the controls couldn't be much more complex, what would they add?

Lol this is like the Ninja Warrior of video games. If you have a few friends who play with you, you'll constantly be trying to battle each others track times and trying to squeeze that extra .100 out with perfection. It's so simple, so unique, and so addictive.
