Warner Bros planning to follow Arkham City with new DC Comics superhero game

This morning following the US release of Batman: Arkham City, the LA times did a sizeable story on Warner Bros Interactive’s success this year, which other than Arkham City includes the multimillion-selling Mortal Kombat reboot. Near the end of the article, the company teased what lies in the future for them including a Hobbit game based on the upcoming film, a Lego Batman sequel and a mysterious new game featuring another DC Comics hero.

Above: Maybe one of these guys?

The interview with WBI CEEO Martin Tremblay says, “game featuring a superhero from Warner's DC Comics unit that Tremblay wouldn't name.“ Leaving aside the long ago rumored Suicide Squad game, the alleged hero could be any of the thousands DC owns. Our first thoughts turn to one of the main pantheon of heroes: Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, even Aquaman. And then of course there’s the quite possible movie tie-in for 2013’s Superman film, but that’s too boringly obvious to contemplate. Maybe they’ll just go completely out of left field and make an Animal Man game. What hero do you think deserves the Arkham City treatment?

It'll probably be a tie in to the new Green Lantern animated series.

wildcat and sandman would be cool just because of their NON-populatirty...but superman would be cool, especially after seeing how well gliding in arkahm city is...instead of detective vision, imagine "mighty senses" where the names of major quests are displayed as red, and you get to see superman using x-ray vision to look through the city to see where it is, and place a way marker? displays all the other sections of the map as purple, and you can fast travel through sections? sidemission and crimes are detected through hearing as yellow waves and you need to follow them? pure awesomeness

I still think they need a 'Humble Green Tree Frog Man' game. That'd be the F*cking BEST. And as much as I love batman, I'm more of a Marvel guy. Something in the Deadpool region would be friggin' awesome.

I'm aware that Catwoman will be avalible in a DLC. However, the formula for the Arkham series involves a superhero who doesn't have powers; instead, batman uses gadgets. If they would want to have a good shot to another bestseller, they should go to another superhero with similar abilities; such as Catwoman or Robin. What makes Batman great is his sense of darkness, although he would never kill. Catwoman, on the other hand, is a dark character who doesn't follow justice, she follows her own interests. Besides, Catwoman may use her femininity to accomplish her objectives. While Arkham city is a great game, and i completely agree with the 10/10 from gamesradar, i feel like spiderman while traveling from place to place. Batman's grappling hook has a ridiculous reach. playing with catwoman must be somewhat more realistic since she would use a whip which should have a smaller reach. To conclude, If the decision would ever be on my shoulders, of what would the next game feature, i would say Catwoman in an open world. However, i would choose Gotham city as the setting

Superman, he seriously need a good game. The Green Lantern was done, and I am not sure a Wonderwoman or Flash game would sell.

Wouldnt mind seeing either a Justice League, or Teen Titans game (Proper old-school TT, not the cartoon network TT) But if we had to go for a solo hero, I'd be a little worried that so many hero's could have games that become God of War clones. Maybe if a few years, once the story has grown to a good level, It could be interesting to see a game for I, Vampire.

i have to agree with you there :( CN teen titans were cool...but not that cool...i cant imagine Beast Boy or Starfire going around beating the living hell out of random thugs like batman does in AA orAC...
  • codystovall - October 19, 2011 12:22 a.m.

Do you think they should do individual games for them first?
  • skarfester - October 19, 2011 12:10 a.m.

A game where you could play as the ageing super heros from ww2 the Justice society would be cool. I'd also love to see a proper Green Lantern rpg where you create your own character and work for the corps. Deathstroke or the Secret six would be my first choices though.

I'm not all that familiar with DC's hero catalogue, so I can really only hope for one of two things - 1. a good Superman game or 2. a Justice League Heroes sequel.

I agree with the BishopofHippo guy; none have ever been able to capture the real, true essence of being Supes (in GR's own words, it's the white whale of gaming development) and right now I believe Rocksteady's the only one capable or probably the only one that's willing as hardly any studios are producing DC games.
  • BishopofHippo93 - October 18, 2011 7:54 p.m.

Honestly I would love to see Superman done well. I know it would be extremely difficult, but I would love to fly through Metropolis as the big blue boy scout!
  • SpadesSlick - October 18, 2011 7:23 p.m.

The Flash is basically impossible to pull off in a game setting so I hope its not him. I wouldn't mind an Aquaman game if it was done well, though it will probably end up terrible like every superhero game not done by Rocksteady.
  • ASTARO - October 18, 2011 7 p.m.

I would love to see a Lobo game..... The bounty hunter deserves a good game
  • 435 - October 19, 2011 7:01 a.m.

Please oh god yes this would make a perfect game please someone listen to this man. It's a shame that they've never tapped that IP, really.
  • PopeTackler - October 18, 2011 6:39 p.m.

Arkham [Asylum,City] was/is Rocksteady's game and as far as I'm aware Warner Bros. had little to no influence in the game development. There's no reason that this new superhero game isn't going to be awful. I really hope it's awesome, though.
  • ninjaemperor - October 18, 2011 6:39 p.m.

I remember Henry wrote a section of the 2010 E3 top 7 most anticipated games article, and was about this very subject. As he said, it'd be pretty cool to have an Arkham-esque green arrow or hawkman game.
