So a question for anyone, are you able to partake in ship battles at any time? Or is it a one time part of the game's story?

Although I agree that colonial-era America doesn't have the architectural interest of Renaissance Europe, it seems to me that the series probably won't be leaving Europe behind altogether. Given the political situation surrounding the Revolutionary War in England and France (who would become a United States ally and a critical factor in defeating Great Britain), and given the series' concern with political history in previous games, I'd be willing to bet we spend a fair amount of time traversing the rooftops of 18th century London and Paris, trying to influence events there, which would be pretty damn cool. I could also see some interesting possibilities with the North American wilderness areas (climbing trees or cliff sides in backwoods areas, waiting to pounce on unsuspecting British agents or Yankee turncoats).

You act as if pre-Communist Russia had bigger buildings. They too, were an agrarian society just barely grasping the idea of industry DURING their revolution, the game would be no less different visually. Snow, and farms. Weeee. The American Revolution is the only era that would make sense right now; The American Revolution is the single most important war during the Post-Renaissance and Pre-Industrial era. Why? Because the 13 colonies were the first colonies to achieve independence from their home country. Sure there were attempts beforehand, but that war paved the way. It changed the course of history, it made empires practically obsolete, so it makes sense to include the Assassin/Templar war in there, considering its vast influence which we still feel today. (Almost every single country in existence today was granted independence)
