I've bought about 2 games in stores over 4 years of being in Australia. They're ridiculously overpriced compared to Europe, The US or Asia. Paying an extra $40-50 for a new game for no reason at all (even on digital games) is sick and as said above, Game were a victim of their own business model. A lot of Australian retailers are and will go the same way because they're too rigid in their business model and unwilling to bend to the demands of the new generation of consumers and internet shopping (Australia is still about 10 years behind Europe and the US when it comes to internet shopping. Many major stores have a pdf of their sales catalogue on their website and that's it). As it is, I'll continue to import my games from the UK as it's stupidly cheaper to import it from the other side of the world than it is to buy here. As was also said above, second hand games were also stupidly overpriced. Sometimes I'd see a game a few months old dropped in price and then the second hand games would actually be priced higher than a new copy. EB games will be next

But why even bother looking for used games anymore? As long as you aren't chasing copies of games within the first 3-6 months of release, you can buy new copies from online stores for cheaper than used ones from ebay. I fork out full price if it's something I want to play day one (usually if very interested in multiplayer aspect and want to get in at the beginning), anything else I buy later down the track. Recently I picked up new copies of Mass Effect 2, Assasins Creed Brotherhood and Revelations, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Dark Souls and Vanquish, all for between 10 and 20 GBP (15-30 AUS/USD). and because I buy new copies a cut still goes to the pubs/devs...it's the stupidly high margins that the actual retailers impose that are cut away. That's why am not really too sympathetic to Game - they are a victim of their own greed. Buying out the competition to fix prices of physical retail stores, taking advantage of the casual market who don't know any better, basically nothing but a rip-off job. Good riddance to a company that was doing nothing apart from sucking life out of the industry

I see this as a mostly good thing, but I'm reminded of a discussion I had in a business law class. In Wisconsin (and probably everywhere else), if an 18 year old has sex with their 17 year old boy/girlfriend and authorities find out, the 18-year-old is now a sex offender and must register as such. I wouldn't consider that particular sex offender to be a danger to children, much less do I think that person should lose access to XBL. Outside of cases like that though, I can't complain.

No advocacy here for sex offenders,, but really this initiative just shouldn't have to exist. Parents should be keeping their children's online interactions in check, and if they cant... make em wait till they're adults to take their entertainment online. And who's to say these offenders wont just forward money to a friend or family member to maintain accounts? I think the industry should be looking to resolve more pressing matters such as cyber-bullying instead of enacting some shallow slap on the wrist to pedos. tldr I think it's redundant.

Im not in favor of this because the "sex offender" logo is now so fucking broad, a high school student, that has sex with a willing partner is now a sex offender. bull fucking shit! just because your registered, does not make you a pedophile! theirs a HUGE difference between a sex offender (some one who fuck in his/her age range), and pedophile (some one who fucks little kids)! this is basically saying, if I live in new york, and I grab a girls chest at a bar, because im drunk. she then reports me, I get registered, and now I dont get xbox live because im instantly a pedophile!?? does this make since to ANYONE!
