When you first meat a tall lizard dude with a bird thing you can finally use those orange blob things by going up to the lizard dude and talk to him. There will be a menu. Scroll down till you get to the evolution menu. After that you can get new powers extra life and other neat stuff.

Get more energy bombs
On the second level get the transformation ability then go to Leon and talk to him go to the evolution upgrades and get the bomb holder and then each time you go on a rail it will charge up and get you 2 bombs (electric bombs) and then keep doing levels and keep talking to Leon and go on upgrade screen i got half way through and i had 7 energy (electric bombs) already.
