MySims Racing

Slow and safe for the kids

Words: on July 7, 2009

Is the MySims franchise being taken too far? Perhaps, but Racing still has just enough infectious MySims charm to carry it – although that can’t disguise the rather pedestrian karting. Head for Story mode and you’ll be dropped into a familiar MySims world with bobble-headed characters waiting for your help. Drive them around or collect stuff for them and you’ll get cash to upgrade your car. Venture to the out of-town racetracks for the proper karting, although don’t expect anything frantic. Top speed feels sluggish, the powerslide hop slows you down, and items hit you out of nowhere.

Multiplayer has the slight advantage of the rivalry you get when people in the same room are firing footballs at each other’s karts and spraying what appears to be vomit on someone else’s visor, but if any of those mates own Mario Kart DS then you’re better off playing that if it’s quality karting you’re after.
