Dragon's Lair creaks onto DS

Aged arcade adventure revived for the dual screens with added rumble support

Retro geeks and gaming granddads will know all about Dragon's Lair - the massively popular 1983 adventure and the first game to use laser disc technology. Now it's being remade for the DS.

It's a classic old plot - you're a knight and you have to save some princess from a dragon. You work through the castle of a dark wizard, solving puzzles, defeating monsters and doing that stuff that's been done a thousand times since the '80s.

Even though it was made when most games used blocky, Lego-brick squares and rectangles to represent people and objects, Dragon's Lair looked like a Disney cartoon, with the (minimal) gameplay panning out in a series of videos afforded by the storage space of the disc. That was groundbreaking back then. Nowadays our calculators can do it.

This time, though, you'll have a touch screen with which to control the "action," and rumble pack support has been thrown in, too. Both the arcade version and the extended home version of the game will also be included.

The release date is yet to be announced. Check out the first screens in the Images tab.
