Xbox 360 subscription plan now available at Best Buy, GameStop

Microsoft's Xbox Live spokesman, Major Nelson announced today that the $99 subscription-based Xbox 360/Kinect bundle announced last month, has been expanded to include Best Buy and GameStop locations. Previously the bundle was only available at Microsoft stores.

The deal offers buyers a big discount on the upfront cost of an Xbox 360/Kinect hardware bundle in exchange for a monthly subscription plan which adds up to a higher overall cost. Overall, the subscription bundle costs about $460 spread over two years, whereas the regular bundle (plus $60 annual Xbox Live fees) costs about $420.

The subscription plan is still listed as being only at "participating" Best Buy and GameStop stores, suggesting those companies are rolling this new program out slowly, just as Microsoft did last month by limiting it only to their own stores.

We're watching this program closely, as it's possible this is an experiment being run by Microsoft to test how willing consumers are to switch their console-buying habits to a system more like buying cell phones.

40$ more and you could have a good PC, completely eliminating the need for a 360.

Well not everybody wants the hassle of PC gaming, it's nice to lay back on the couch, grab a controller and play games all day.

Alienware X51, just eliminated the hassles and you can grab a controller and lay back on the couch and play all day. So, what is the wait.

People are unwilling to sit through the time that it takes to boot a computer when they can jump on their console in like 1/3 of the time.

Don't turn your computer off? (If it is a desktop that is)

for 460 bucks? it wont be a very good not hating on pc, all i play is pc games (as of recently, still learning about the specs and whatnot) but i'd be hard pressed to build a gaming pc worthwhile..for that little amount

Sounds lame. Even a new console isn't worth $420 and there is a new console in the works right now so why would I want to invest in my 360?
  • tiben36 - June 25, 2012 5:47 p.m.

man, fuck that shit, if you cant afford a console paid in full, you shouldnt be able to afford it with fucking payements when it makes it more expensive thats just a fukin ripoff

so if you can't pay a car or house in full you shouldn't be able to get a loan on it and make payments?
  • tiben36 - June 26, 2012 12:37 p.m.

a car, a house and a video game console dont have the same utility which one is more usefull? if you say the xbox, i think you should get some help

There is no discount, only a postponing of further payment spread over two years. Personally it is a bad deal to get into. Although it is better compared to some other rent to own places. I swear to god I will never go back to rent a center again.
