1.3 million Xbox 360s sold from January to March

1.3 million Xbox 360 consoles were sold from January through March, a 9 percent drop from the same period last year. Microsoft announced financial results for the software giant and its Entertainment & Devices division last night.

The division, which includes Xbox as well as Windows Phone and Skype, posted $2.53 billion in revenue. That's up 56 percent from the third quarter of 2012, which saw $1.62 billion in revenue.

Microsoft said Xbox Live membership currently stands at more than 46 million, presumably including both Silver and Gold accounts. Transactional revenue grew at "double the rate of member growth," meaning people are spending 36 percent more on Xbox Live products than they were this time last year.

Microsoft's overall operating income grew 19 percent to $7.61 billion.

Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo.
