Deadpool is one of the most violent, funniest, and insanely unpredictable characters in comic books, and our brief experience with the upcoming game certainly captured the spirit of Deadpool in all his M-rated glory. In fact, he comes off a good deal dirtier than he is in most comics.
Deadpool is known for breaking the fourth wall, and his game almost immediately has him talking to the player. He sees Achievements unlock, and theres even a brief phone conversation with his voice actor. While the writing may be goofy, the game takes the action seriously with clever combos that mix melee and gunplay with Deadpools uniquely hyperactive style.
And Deadpool takes advantage of its Marvel Comics setting. We spotted references to Spider-Man, the X-Men, and longtime villain Mister Sinister. The fan service was capped off by an appearance by Cable, one of the few mutant heroes that can tolerate Deadpool long enough to work with him. The brief appearance by Cable also included two of the funniest moments of the demo: an introductory song called Who the f**k is Cable? and then a lengthy bit of exposition that Deadpool can only tolerate for 60 seconds before shooting himself in the face.
The game is out late June, so well soon see if Deadpools self-aware ultra-violence can sustain itself for an entire game. In the meantime, check out the new screens to see more of the merc with a mouth in action.
