Last week we broke hearts when we revealed that Tony Soprano had ordered his last whack – this week, the talk is that President Bartlett and his buddies are being slung out of power.
Broadcaster NBC has reportedly lost faith in the ailing show, that has been losing viewers during its seventh and current season on air. The network is now reportedly not planning to bring the highly successful political drama back after its final show of the season on 14 May.
The West Wing hit the small screen in 1999, created by writer Aaron Sorkin (The American President) and sizzling with talent, verve and sparkling dialogue. The show proved a ratings winner, with Martin Sheen as idealist President Josiah Bartlett, backed by a staff including Rob Lowe and the captivating John Spencer, who sadly died last month.
Sorkin’s departure after the fourth series was a blow to the show’s ratings but after a disappointing fifth season, the general consensus was that the storyline of the search for Bartlett’s replacement had made season six a return to form.
