Three Inches Still A Possible Series… With A Twist
Have you been wondering, like we have, what’s happened to that proposed Syfy US series Three Inches ? Remember? The hour-long superhero drama that sounded a bit like Mystery Men in that it was about a group of superheroes with rubbish powers. It was going to star James Marsters and Torchwood ’s Naoko Mori. It ran into trouble when Syfy had to choose between it and Alphas as regards which went to a series. The network chose Alphas (which premieres this summer). However Syfy were vocal that they thought the concept was strong and that they would be looking at ways to develop the idea in other ways. Seems they weren’t kidding. According to Deadline , Three Inches is now one of three potential half-hour comedy shows vying for a pick-up by Syfy (which is apparently very keen to find a comedy hit). It’s up against In The Dark (“a misfit group of third-tier ghost hunters whose misguided efforts tend to highlight their incompetence rather than paranormal activity”) and Me And Lee (in which Lee Majors gives a young man a bionic makeover). No news yet on whether Marsters and Mori are still involved, but it seems unlikely. On the other hand, stranger things have happened.
Paramount Ditches Dune
Paramount is no longer moving forward with its movie remake of Dune , according to Deadline . Paramount and the rights holders came to a parting of the ways as the rights lapsed. “Paramount’s option has expired and we couldn’t reach an agreement,” said Richard P Rubinstein, who controls the rights to what is considered the biggest-selling science fiction book ever. “I’m going to look at my options, and whether I wind up taking the script we developed in turnaround, or start over, I’m not sure yet.”
Jumper Director Plans Lunar Project
Seems that director Doug ( Jumper , Mr & Mrs Smith ) Liman’s long-gestating moon-set sci-fi thriller could finally be happening, if The Hollywood Reporter is correct. The project, which still has no official title but which has been referred to as Luna , was set-up at DreamWorks with Jake Gyllenhaal attached (he isn’t any more), but now Liman is developing it at Paramount. Apparently, he’s been meeting with actors in Los Angeles including Andrew Garfield, Emile Hirsch, Chris Pine, Rosario Dawson, Megan Fox, Rachel McAdams, Eva Mendes, Zoe Saldana and Olivia Wilde. The film is about renegade former space employees who travel the world stealing equipment to build a rocket that will take them to the moon.
Rise Of The Apes Back To Being A Summer Release
What kind of monkey business is this? (Cue lots of “I think you’ll find” comments – we know apes aren’t monkeys.) Fox has rescheduled the premiere for its Planet Of The Apes reboot yet again. Having originally moved it back from Summer 2011 to later in the year, the film is now back to having a summer release – 5 August to be precise. Maybe that means they’re more confident about the film now and see it as potential Summer blockbuster. Or maybe they’ve just realised that everything else released that weekend is a bit naff ( w ell, would you rather spend your money on The Smurfs ?).
