Writers discuss Sherlock Holmes 2

Michele and Kieran Mulroney have been out promoting their new flick Paper Man , an indie comedy about a novelist going through a mid-life crisis.

But while chatting about that flick, they’ve let some details slip about their current writing project – the sequel to Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes .

Chatting with Collider , the duo confirmed “we were [ writing it ] just this morning, it’s very, very exciting and interesting and a challenge”.

They also confirmed that they are both massive fans of the original books, calling Watson and Holmes “just delicious”. Michele notes that “it’s a really interesting process we’re neck deep in right now”.

So what can we expect from the sequel script? “It’ll still be a nice big whopping studio film,” Kieran revealed, also stating that the couple started work on the sequel before the first film had even hit screens.

We can also count out an adaptation of the classic Conan Doyle story The Adventure Of The Red-Headed League for the sequel, one of the tomes that the duo admit to loving. In terms of the story, Kieran says “it’s a little bit of a secret”.

How about the rumours of Brad Pitt's involvement as Holmes’ arch nemesis Professor Moriarty? The scribes are keeping schtum, but are hopeful that the actor will sign on for the role.

“Well, of course, we’re gigantic Brad Pitt fans,” says Michele. “I think he’s a particularly brilliant character actor. And certainly the role that you’re talking about of Professor Moriarty is a big character to bite off. I hope Brad likes it. Let’s leave it at that.

“To be political, we should say nothing. But, he’s wonderful. We couldn’t be bigger fans of Brad. So, we’ll see what happens. It’s going to be an interesting film to watch. We can say nothing about this.”
