Release Date: October 19, 2010
Platforms: Nintendo DS
Same Time As: Super Scribblenauts
Why it should succeed: A complete reimagining of the then-popular SNES RPG Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals, the slightly renamed Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals takes the JRPG mechanics of yesteryear and eschews them for something a bit more modern. Gone is all that turn-based RPGeekery in favor of more action-oriented combat. All of you closet Lufia fans get to enjoy the best kind of reboot – one that actually changes something about its dated gameplay.
Why it will be ignored: Does anyone remember ever asking for a reboot of a Lufia game from 1995? Fan service is great and all, but at the same time it’s…well, fan service. And the thing about hardcore fans is that they often dislike change, so discarding the turn-based system may actually turn off the very people who would normally be thrilled with this remake. This leaves us with a potential audience of about 12 people. Most of whom are most likely going to grab a copy of Super Scribblenauts instead.
