Sci-Fi Bargains Of The Week

Hello and welcome to another edition of the SFX Friday Bargains round-up. This week, as ever, we have scoured the internet and the supermarkets hunting for tempting bits of cheap sci-fi goodness to part you from your cash. See how much we care?

This week we’re starting off with Amazon’s “Deals Of The Week.” Offers this time include the complete Stargate: Atlantis box-set on DVD for £43.97 .

Also spotted on Amazon this Planet Of The Apes movie box-set which contains all five original Apes movies from the ’60s and ’70s DVD . You can get your filthy paws on the lot for just £10.97 .

Next up we have a couple of recent releases; the found-footage superpower adventure Chronicle (Extended Edition) was spotted on DVD for £7.99 and on Blu-ray for £11.99 .

If you fancy invisible aliens invading Russia, then how about Darkest Hour ? The all-singing, all-dancing Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy is available for £13.49 and alternatively the plain simple DVD (and digital) copy can be yours for £7.99 .

The Batman five-disc, five -lm, animated collection DVD we reported last month has dropped even further in price to just £10 . Not bad for five movies.

The recent New Zealand-based Norse-deities-living-in-exile TV show The Almighty Johnsons series one is out to buy. We saw it on a DVD series one boxed set for £9.49 .

Finally from Amazon we have the 1980 TV adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s classic red planet tale The Martian Chronicles . It’s on DVD for £8.60 .

With the new Colin Farrell-starring Total Recall remake out today how about checking out the classic Arnie version. It’s out on a special edition Blu-ray/triple play set for £12.97 .

Over on Sendit this we week we found several cheap classic films on DVD. They had invading aliens in It Came From Outer Space for £2.99 . Faked Mars landings in Capricorn One for £8.99 . Cute and evil robots in Disney’s The Black Hole for £2.99 . One of the scariest robots ever put to film alongside a very young looking Harvey Keitel in Saturn 3 also for £2.99 . The 1955 Invasion of the Body-snatchers for £3.99 . And finally madcap British space fun with The First Men in the Moon again for £2.99 .

In our wander round the supermarkets we took in Asda and Morrison’s this week. In Asda we found DVDs including Contagion and Skyline for £5 each, God Of Vampires for £8 and Remains again for £8. Black Death, Wanted, Prince of Persia, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Prince Caspian were also all on DVD for £3 each. On the Blu-ray shelf we saw a Predators triple play set for £8 , 28 Days and Weeks Later also for £8 and Scream 4 for £7 .

Across the road in Morrison’s we found War Of The Worlds, Devil, Sunshine, Drag me to Hell, The Thing and the TMNT animated movie all for £3 each. Also in Morrison’s the Batman: The Brave & the Bold DVD volumes Midnighter told us he’d spotted a few weeks ago are still available for £3 .

Form the forum this week, Grumpy Old Git told us they found season one the of zany sci-fi show Warehouse 13 for just £8 at Asda and Raven informed us that series one of Space:1999 was available on Blu-ray for £25.97 which is cheaper than the same set is on DVD .

Our Ian Berriman struck TV gold this week with the discovery of a 2 for £12 Doctor Who offer from Play. The offer features seventeen classic Who titles including “Colony In Space”, “Robot”, “The Mind Robbers” and “Day Of The Daleks”.

And, as if cheap Who DVDs weren’t enough Ian also found this Doctor Who kids backpack for £2.49 and this Lego Star Wars X-Box 360 game for just £13.98 .

We’re a little thin on the ground for random ideas this week so we thought we’d bring you a whole load of mugs… Play have plenty of sci-fi themed mugs at low, low prices. We found this Batman versus Bane mug for £5.99 , a classic Bolland Dark Judges design for £7.99 , Judge Dredd himself on this
”Many faces of Dredd” design for £5 and Brains from Thunderbirds in mug form for £5.99 .

For fans of Doctor Who we found several Dalek designs including this ”You Will Obey” mug for £7.99 and this great ”To Victory!” mug for £5 . We also spotted this lovely Van Gogh exploding Tardis for just £6.99 .
