Rupert Murdoch announces Borat 2...

Rupert Murdoch might be the big boss man of News Corp – the corporate overlords behind Borat studio 20th Century Fox - but it sounds like he’s not quite been reading all the memos.

Or, at the very least he’s trying to write the memos before anyone else has a chance: he announced yesterday that Fox would definitely be producing a second film from Kazakhstan’s favourite son. "He will do a sequel," Murdoch said in an onstage interview at Media Summit New York. "He will first do something else, then he wants to come back and do a Borat 2.” The he, of course is Borat creator and star Sacha Baron Cohen, who hasn’t actually announced a big sequel plan.

While Murdoch is right that Cohen is doing something else – that would be the planned outing for his gay fashion interviewer Bruno – as snagged by Universal for $42 million – no one in Fox seemed sure that there will be any sort of Borat follow-up.

"We're eager to work with Sacha again, and we've had casual discussions about a sequel, which we'd love to do, but at this point it remains too preliminary to discuss," blabbed Fox exec Chris Petrikin to The Hollywood Reporter.

Someone’s getting a phone call from the boss, we fear…
