Ninja Gaiden Sigma guide

Chapter 7: Monastery

Monastery? This place is crawling with Black Spider Ninjas and all manner of unholy hellspawn. This is going to be quite a lengthy level, so make yourself comfortable.

Starting off, you'll want to save your game at the nearby savepoint. There are two other chests in this area and one contains a Life of the Gods - be sure to pick it up.

Climb up the stairs to find some more treasures. There are flying enemies around here: bats and mechanical sentries that will send lasers across the ground at you. The bats are an easy kill, the sentries not so much. Use your bow or Windmill Shuriken to take them out and make a safe crossing for yourself. Dropping down at the end, you'll encounter a Muramasa statue that you may have run into already as Rachel. Stock up on whatever here (now's a great time to upgrade your weaponry as much as possible, as well as purchase any skills you may still be lacking), then go outside and head through the proper monastery entrance.

When you enter the monastery, you'll want to scout for treasure first thing. If you picked up the treasure as Rachel, look in the same locations - there will be new items there waiting for Hayabusa. You can take on the enemies near the altar if you'd like, but you're probably better off focusing your attention on getting to the Archives, which is where Rachel went earlier.

There are some new enemies here. While you already encountered the little brownish creatures as Rachel, the flying, scythe-wielding demons are completely new and completely annoying. They can teleport, much like the ninjas in Chapter 2, and have very good dodging ability - not to mention some very damaging attacks. If you see a circle appear on the floor near them, stay away - it's dangerous magic of theirs that will hurt quite a bit should you mindlessly meander into it.

Once you've exorcised these freaks, you can head up the stairs. Here, you can read some conspicuously-colored tomes in the bookshelves, as well as steal valuable artifacts by breaking the glass containers they sit in. You'll receive a Golden Scarab, part of a stone tablet and a new projectile weapon, the Incendiary Shurikens.

Now, head up to the third floor. There's another Golden Scarab on a higher-up ledge around here, which you'll need to do a wall-jump to reach. Looking around, you'll see a cracked wall. Equip the Incendiary Shurikens and throw one at the wall to make it explode and open a passageway for you. A few more demons will come looking for the source of the loud noise, so just hack them up without a second thought and head outside.
