Gary Ross, who directed Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire in Seabiscuit and Pleasantville, has been tapped to re-write the script for the fourth web-slinging entry.
Previous drafts have been penned by Zodiac’s James Vanderbilt and playwright/scriptwriter David Lindsay-Abaire.
Ross’ script may well end up much like the other Spider-screenplays – a blend of various writers’ skills, with input from Sam and likely Ivan Raimi.
Still, Ross seems like a solid choice. He knows how to craft a solid script and he has a good handle on Maguire’s rhythms – hopefully he can bring Peter Parker back from the craziness of Spider-Man 3.
Ross is planning to double up work on the Spiders-script with his Lance Armstrong biopic, so look for hilarious screenplay software glitches that see Spider-Man saving the Tour De France…
