The list of upcoming video game adaptations just keeps on growing, and Xbox is adding yet another to its roster with a live-action movie based on the action-adventure game Sea of Thieves.

Xbox announced the movie inside a pretty stuffed feature from Entertainment Weekly that details the studio's many upcoming projects. Per the article, Sea of Thieves is in the works in conjunction with Hisako Films, the production company that belongs to Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton. A director or writer has not yet been attached.

The game debuted in 2018, and sees the player control a pirate who completes various voyages in an open world setting. Players can play solo, duo, or in a group, and yes, there's a treasure map and a treasure chest... as well as a megalodon and a kraken. Oh, and you get to choose from a variety of cool weapons including cutlasses, blunderbusses, throwing knives, blowpipes, and harpoon guns.

"The main character of a Sea of Thieves game is actually the player and the community," Booty told Entertainment Weekly. "So if you sit down to think about Sea of Thieves, it's not, 'Who are the main characters? What's the plot?' It's a super social game, but there's a tone to Sea of Thieves. It's built on a very cooperative community, so you can start to sense what that's going to be like."

Xbox's ongoing slate of live-action projects includes Prime Video's Fallout TV show, Netflix's Gears of War movie, a TV show based on Wolfenstein, and Michael Sarnoski's Death Stranding movie.

The Death of Robin Hood star Murray Bartlett says hardly anyone recognized him on set... and it was mostly because his character is completely concealed for the majority of the film.

"The character that I play was so beautiful on the page, and that was just gorgeous. I think one of the most difficult things is I'm covered up most of the time," Bartlett tells GamesRadar+. "You just see my eyes. I think the most difficult thing was coming to set not in costume, and people were like, 'Who's that guy?' Nobody knew who I was. So a lack of community, I think, was the most challenging."

Continues Bartlett: "Like, 'Someone remove the guy at the tea table!' Yeah. I'm the Leper. I'm the Leper, you guys! But no, it was such a beautiful experience."

Written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, the movie sees an aged Robin Hood (Hugh Jackman) and his partner Little John (Bill Skarsgard) reflect upon their long life of violent crime, which all culminates in a terrifying battle that nearly claims Robin's life. He's taken to a priory, secluded somewhere on a British isle, where he is looked after by Jodie Comer's Brigid, a woman who has devoted her life to God and in service of others.

It's there at the priory that he meets the Leper, who is covered in rags from head to toe in order to keep others from not only catching his illness (which was thought in the 13th century to be highly contagious) but from seeing the sores that are eating away at his body. The rags make the Leper seem pretty menacing at first, but he's actually a sweet guy nearing the end of his life. Funny enough, it's not the first time Bartlett has played a tragic character with a terminal disease, as he starred in the Emmy-nominated episode of The Last of Us season 1, 'Long, Long Time' as Frank, the ailing partner of Nick Offerman's Bill.

The Death of Robin Hood director Michael Sarnoski is gearing up to helm the first-ever live-action Death Stranding movie, which is quite the departure from the A24 action-thriller about everyone's favorite folklore hero.

"I wouldn't say the script is very violent. There's definitely a lot of, like, action and excitement to it," Sarnoski tells GamesRadar+ when asked how Death Stranding compares to The Death of Robin Hood. "There's some violence to it. I mean, Death Stranding is a brutal world... and it's a world also where it feels like death is just around the corner. So there needs to be that sort of visceral sense of, 'oh, this could be it.' It's sort of [a] bleak and barren post-apocalyptic environment. So there is violence and action to it, but the role of violence is very different from this one. [The Death of Robin Hood] is a movie that kind of questions violence."

Written and directed by Sarnoski, The Death of Robin Hood stars Hugh Jackman as an aging Robin Hood in 13th-century England who, alongside his partner Little John (Bill Skarsgard), leads a life of hyperviolent crime that includes jaws being ripped in half, arrows going through eye sockets, throats being slit, and everything being set on fire. The second half the movie sees Robin heal from nearly dying at a priory, where he is forced to contemplate the life he's lived.

Sarnoski continues: "In Death Stranding, the sort of violence and action is about, exploration and about understanding the world more deeply. So there will be some, but you're not gonna see a lot of jaws getting ripped off in Death Stranding."

The live-action adaptation of Death Stranding was announced back in 2023, with creator Hideo Kojima stating that the upcoming pic is "not just a direct translation of the game" and "will be for anyone who loves cinema." Sarnoski is set to once again write and direct, with A24 and Kojima Productions producing. The film will take place within the Death Stranding universe, but will not adapt the Norman Reedus-led games... though Reedus is definitely interested.

The Death of Robin Hood cast says the movie's rather surprising hyperviolence is essential when it comes to telling this unique story about the folklore legend... and there's no exaggeration when we say that it's the darkest depiction of Robin Hood ever made.

"I think it sets up very clearly and distinctly the world in which he's from," Comer tells GamesRadar+. "You learn very quickly, you get such a huge impression of the life that he's lived, the way in which he meets the world, which I think is kind of fundamental to the journey that he goes on at the priory."

Written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, the movie stars Hugh Jackman as an aging Robin Hood in 13th-century England who is forced to grapple with his life of crime after nearly dying... and being spared by the universe somehow.

"[Sarnoski's] depicting this past that was horrible," Bill Skarsgard agrees. Thirteenth-century England was probably not the coolest time to be around. And how little value life had... The scene that we have where it's like I just clobber a guy for a loaf of bread – and [my character is] super stoked about it. This is what establishes this universe. And then it's kind of Robin's path to salvation from that."

But it's Little John's reckless and violent life that leads to his home being overtaken by a rival family... and it's here where the gore truly amps up (and we see jaws ripping in half, torches being shoved down throats, and arrows going through eye sockets). The second half of the film sees Robin Hood end up at a priory, where he is looked after by Jodie Comer's Brigid, a woman who has devoted her life to God and in service of others, and meets Murray Bartlett's Leper, both of whom meet him with a softness and kindness that Robin has not known for quite some time (though they're both unaware of his true identity).

"I remember the first time I read it in that first section, that is so brutal. And I was like, 'I don't know that I can be in this,'" Bartlett admitted. "I find it really hard to watch that kind of brutality. I read the rest of the script, and I'm like, oh, it just, it's so important because it says so much about Robin Hood. He kinda goes on a rough journey in the second part of the film, but there is a lot of soulfulness and soul searching in the second half, with the context of the first half... it makes it very rich, I think."

A movie based on the point-and-click mystery game Broken Sword is on the way from Story Kitchen, the studio behind the massively successful live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise.

The list of upcoming video game movies just keeps on growing, but this one is pretty exciting for us early aughts kids with Gateway computers. According to Variety, Broken Sword is being adapted into a feature-length movie with Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos set to pen the script.

The first game in the franchise, Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars, saw an American tourist named George Stobbart team up with French photojournalist Nicole Collard to solve a mystery left behind by the shadowy organization known as the Knights Templar. The point-and-click adventure-mystery game involves puzzles, collecting items, talking to NPCS, and all the 2D good stuff you could ever want in an early PC game. Four games have been released since, with the latest arriving via Kickstarter campaign in 2013 and a sixth game announced back in 2023.

"Very few franchises of this era have stayed relevant, premium, and loyal to the intelligence of their audience. ‘Broken Sword’ has done all three," Story Kitchen co-founders Dmitri M. Johnson and Michael Lawrence Goldberg said via joint statement. “Our work here isn’t to adapt a game into a film. It’s to move a world that has been building for three decades into the next medium it deserves, working hand-in-hand with the people who built it."

The hype is real for M. Night Shyamalan's next movie. His new movie, a romance thriller titled Remain, has reportedly been the highest-rated of all his films during test screenings.

"Just between us, it’s my highest-testing movie of my career.," Shyamalan said during Warner Bros. Discovery’s upfront presentation this week (via The Hollywood Reporter). "We’re now in post-production, finding every detail. Honestly, my hope is that when you experience Remain, you feel both sides of it at once – full of love and that quiet, lingering unease that doesn’t let you go."

The movie came about in a pretty unusual way: it's a collaboration between bestselling romance author Nicholas Sparks, who wrote The Notebook. The duo worked on a novel (which has already been published) and a screenplay, which are separate projects but based on the same characters and story.

"The novel is not a novelization, and the film is not an adaptation. It’s two storytellers telling the story of Remain in their own way. Together, we created the story of recluse architect Tate Gordon, who moves to a small coastal town to complete his latest project when he encounters a beguiling young woman who pulls him out of his shell and into the center of a deadly mystery that hangs over this town."

Jake Gyllenhaal will play Tate, while Phoebe Dynevor will play Wren, the aforementioned "beguiling young woman."

Shyamalan's last project was 2024's Trap, which starred Josh Hartnett as a doting dad by day and a serial killer by night. When he takes his tween daughter to a pop concert, he finds himself caught in a sting operation to catch him, and a surreally comic cat and mouse chase ensues.

I'm the kind of Lonely Island fan that will watch anything Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, or Jorma Taccone are cooking up (and while wearing my bootleg Awesometown shirt that I got off RedBubble in 2009, mind you). So when I learned that Taccone was directing an English-language remake of The Trip, a Norwegian action-horror comedy about a couple who plan on murdering each other during a relaxing stay at their cottage, I was sold.

Since his last solo directorial venture was 2010's MacGruber, which gave us 91 minutes of Will Forte ripping out tracheas with his bare hands, I had a feeling we were in for a funny, moderately violent ride. In reality, however, Over Your Dead Body is a nearly two-hour-long gorefest with kills that would make Michael Myers jealous – and no, we never cut away from a severed finger or stab to the head. Beneath all the blood, however, is a surprisingly sweet love story that will have you clapping in the theater at the end (and calling your significant other to suggest some good old-fashioned couples therapy).

Dearly Departed

The film stars Jason Segel and Samara Weaving as Dan and Lisa, an unhappily married couple living in Hollywood. Dan is a director who managed to make one feature-length film before being resigned to doing cell phone advertisements, and Lisa is an aspiring actor (with an accent described as "British mixed with the Devil"). When the two decide to go up to the cabin for the weekend, we quickly learn that Dan (who is not a killer by nature) is planning to kill Lisa for her insurance money… and that, surprise, surprise, Lisa is planning on doing the same. Their plans get interrupted, however, when a group of escaped convicts (Timothy Olyphant, Juliette Lewis, Keith Jardine) taking refuge in the cabin decide to hold them hostage.

It starts out as your typical action comedy (though Taccone is careful to let the camera linger on a missing knife or cereal on the floor for some Knives Out-style foreshadowing), with Dan and Lisa bonking each other over the head and in the face with various blunt objects, and then things get real. It starts with hitting Jardine's beefy bald prisoner Todd over the head with a pool table ball, and escalates to a spine snapped via kitchen knife, a face pushed into a lawn mower, bitten off cartilage (and I'll be thinking about, 'Your nose tastes like sh*t,' for the rest of my life, probably), and blown-off faces.

"I sort of pride myself on that," Taccone tells GamesRadar+ when asked about blending comedy and hyper-violence. "And to me, because this movie has so many different tones sort of etched into one, you know, it's like it's kind of a suspense thriller, then it becomes this other thing, and then it's almost like an action movie, and it's ramping [up] the whole time."

Two of Hearts

Over Your Dead Body wouldn't succeed (especially not the ending) without the surprisingly wild chemistry between Weaving and Segel. Weaving is a scream queen, perhaps best known as the ultimate final girl in Ready or Not, and Segel is a comedy king who got his start in the short-lived cult classic comedy series Freaks and Geeks. Though Weaving is no stranger to wielding a knife and spitting out someone else's blood, this was something brand new for Segal.

"There was a bunch of stuff in this movie that I had no idea how to do, and Sam did know how to do," Segel tells GamesRadar+. "So I really got to learn from her expertise, which was really exciting for me. 20 years into a profession where there's very little that comes [to me] where I'm like, 'I have no idea how to do this.' But some of the stuff, I had no idea how to do, literally no idea. What am I supposed to do when that thing goes through my hand? And she taught me."

Though the first half of the film is driven by Dan and Lisa's hatred for each other, their struggle for survival in the second half is driven purely by the love that they still have for each other. And if that wasn't there, I'm not sure how else the movie would succeed. But it makes you wonder: if they had just talked about their feelings over the years instead of letting resentment build… maybe it wouldn't have led to two different murder plots (one more convoluted than the other)?

It's in the most high-tension, high-stakes parts of the film that Dan and Lisa finally tell each other what they've been holding back throughout the back half of their marriage. And while I won't spoil the ending for you, I will say that the message here is more or less that love really and really truly prevails… and that cartilage tastes really, really bad. Even Pete (Olyphant) and Allegra (Lewis), classic tale of a convict and the prison guard who helped him escape, have relationship problems throughout the film, and their unwillingness to work it out parallels Dan and Lisa's all-out fight for survival in an impossibly clever way (thanks to the brilliant writing of Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher).

True love will find you in the end

Over Your Dead Body is far from your typical action-comedy, and that's what makes it so damn good. It's even better watched in a crowded theater, with everyone around you squirming, screening, and aw-ing in unison like we're watching a popcorn slasher or another installment of Scream. When I asked Taccone if this signaled his foray into horror, he simply said that he'd "really like to do a version of Goonies." Segel, on the other hand, said he has always "walked the line between charming and creepy," and that he absolutely wouldn't mind (citing Forgetting Sarah Marshall and I Love You, Man as comedies that could've gone horror in just a couple of script changes).

Love prevails, though it's often goopy, bloody, and fleshy… it's worth sticking it out for.

Forget Dunesday and Barbenheimer! Avengers: Secret Wars, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum and, now, The Housemaid 2 are all opening on the same day.

On March 30, Lionsgate confirmed that the surprise sequel to one of 2025's best thrillers, which is officially titled The Housemaid's Secret, will release on December 17, 2027. While it may seem bold to go up against two juggernaut franchises, it could wind up being a genius move from Lionsgate, as they cater to cinemagoers not looking to watch superhero or fantasy fare over the Christmas period. Let the battle for the box office commence...

Based on the novel of the same name by Freida McFadden, The Housemaid centers on Millie (Sydney Sweeney), a down-and-out young woman who takes a live-in job at the wealthy Winchesters'. As Nina (Amanda Seyfried), the mother, becomes increasingly erratic and Millie gets entangled with Nina's charming husband Andrew (Brandon Sklenar), though, dark secrets about the seemingly idyllic family come to light.

Rebecca Sonnenshine wrote the script while Paul Feig (A Simple Favor, Bridesmaids) directed the flick, which made a whopping $398 million globally. The latter will be back behind the camera for the follow-up, as Kirsten Dunst joins Sweeney onscreen.

While the movie adaptation wasn't entirely faithful to the source material, we can assume the sequel will cover the broader strokes set up by McFadden's next chapter. In The Housemaid's Secret book, Millie finds herself coming to the aid of New York City-based couple Wendy and Douglas Garrick. Apparently, Wendy is sick and needs help cleaning and cooking – but if you've seen the first film, you'll know to expect a twist (or two) as to the real reason Millie has been summoned there.

"There's so much footage of the real event. Like, a crazy amount of footage," Bill Skarsgård tells us of his new film, Dead Man's Wire, which is based on the unbelievable true story of Tony Kiritsis. 49 years ago, Kiritsis walked into a mortgage company building, took the owner's son, Richard "Dick" Hall, as his hostage, and held him captive with a shotgun wired to his neck for 63 hours. Kiritsis asked for nothing more than an apology – and $5 million – after believing the Halls had swindled him.

"Even in the script, as you're reading it, Austin [Kolodney], the writer, had put links in to the actual 911 phone calls, and the footage of them walking on the streets with the shotgun wired to his neck," Skarsgård adds.

This profoundly odd true story forms the basis of My Own Private Idaho director Gus Van Sant's latest film, a taut, tense, and surprisingly funny thriller starring It and Nosferatu's Bill Skarsgård as the aggrieved Kiritsis, and Stranger Things' Dacre Montgomery as his captive Hall.

Stranger than fiction

Just like in real life, the film begins with Skarsgård's Kiritsis walking into the office of Meridian Mortgage Company and kidnapping Hall, using the so-called dead man's wire that gives the film its title. This wire connects Hall to the shotgun's trigger, and the other end goes around Kiritsis's own neck. One wrong move, and Hall will meet a grisly end.

"It was hard to separate the actual event and the film that we were trying to do," Skarsgård explains. "I researched the guy a lot – there's so much footage – and how he looked, and how he spoke, and his mannerisms, and all of it. And then also knowing that we're going to do some of these scenes that are verbatim of what he said on the day…"

But while the film hews extremely close to the true story, Skarsgård doesn't bear much of a physical resemblance to the real Kiritsis at all, something he initially found hard to reconcile. "My way into the character was so tied to the real guy that it just ended up becoming an obstacle for me, because I just felt that physically, I'm so different than the real guy," he says. "And I've played quite a few characters that have been based on real people, but then I've been cast because of some sort of physical likeness to the real guy. It was like, 'Oh, this guy was also tall and my age,' but this was very different. There was just something that I had to get over: I am not physically right for this role or portraying this man."

Van Sant was able to help Skarsgård deal with the discrepancy. "Gus kept just encouraging me that I will have to be portraying my Tony," Skarsgård says. "And some actors I think are quite different than that. You could do this and then separate yourself completely from the real guy, and just be like, 'Oh, who cares?' People don't know who Tony Kiritsis is today, really. He's not a household name. So, you could just separate yourself from him and do whatever the fuck you want to do with the role, or play the character much more closer to yourself, like, 'Okay, this is how I'm going to do it.' But I'm not like that. So, the research component was huge, to the point of getting in the way of me actually doing it."

Tied together

The bulk of the 63 hours Hall and Kiritsis spent together took place in Kiritsis's own apartment. Likewise, the film is mostly set in this dark, cramped space, with Montgomery and Skarsgård shouldering the majority of the screen time. "He was my partner in this. From the beginning to the end, it's just the two of us, really," Skarsgård says of working so closely with Montgomery.

Kiritsis forces Montgomery into a chair with the shotgun on a table in front of him, aimed squarely at his head. Montgomery is a quiet, measured man who weathers his ordeal with weary fear, enduring Kiritsis's ramblings and ravings as, outside, the police plot to save him.

The film was very much a collaborative effort, and Skarsgård was keen to ensure the situation, while fraught on screen, was safe behind the scenes. "It is just the two of us in so many of the scenes, quite literally wired to each other. So, we did have three or four days with just me, Dacre, and Gus, talking through the whole script, talking through our interpretations of our characters and the dynamics," he explains.

"And then we would rehearse a little, and it was a useful time for us to vent and get to know each other," he continues. "Right off the bat, Dacre and I just really got along, which is good and which was really helpful, because it was just really important that we both – or for me, at least, I think he has probably worked a bit different in the past, I know he's expressed it – but for me, it was like, 'Okay, it's really important that we're very safe with each other, and that we trust each other completely,' so we could rely on each other as scene partners, and I think we really did."

Naturally, the dead man's wire had an effect on the dynamic Skarsgård and Montgomery established, too. "Dacre and I became really good friends in the process of it. And I don't think either one of us have ever played two characters that are literally fused together like this. So, it was fun and organic," Skarsgård says. "He would feed to me and I would feed to him. Being fused together, whenever he had an instinct of, like, 'Okay, I want to go right,' and I'll go, 'No, go left!' So, it becomes this ping pong game of whatever he's doing, I'm counter-reacting to it physically."

Unexpected laughs

Despite the seriousness of the film's subject matter, it can be surprisingly hilarious at times. "There was something about the real Tony that I did find funny," Skarsgård says. "Part of the thing that I found so fascinating about the character, he could be menacing and funny and weird and endearing and sad, all in the same five seconds. I'm talking about the real guy. That type of complexity. I don't think he has gotten any sleep at all in the past three days, and so there's this whole manic episode unfolding, and he's really pivoting from emotions, where he could be fueled with black outrage, and then he can be in tears the next second, and then he could make a joke the third."

Much of the humor comes from the inherent absurdity of the situation itself – at one point, Kiritsis parades the captive Montgomery down the street to commandeer a police car after the key breaks off in his own ignition, to the consternation of onlookers and the police themselves, and at another, an officer has to tell him how to operate the police car's PA. There's also Kiritsis's frenzied mannerisms and deranged behavior, which often jar with the reality of the kidnapping: in the apartment, he offers Montgomery, forced to sleep in the bathtub, a donut, and he often apologizes for his behavior, even as it continues.

Even Van Sant was caught off guard. "Gus is a very explorative filmmaker, where he lets the film find itself, and he has a lot of trust in his actors, and he doesn't try to force anything. He gently shapes it and guides it into what the movie becomes, but he trusts the movie in a profound way," explains Skarsgård.

"But I think that the first day of the shoot, we were doing the reception of the mortgage company, and I just started improvising," he adds. "Tony… [there was] something just funny and bizarre about the real guy, but also what I was doing with the character. I remember Gus coming up to me, and he goes, 'Hmm, this is funny.' It surprised him that the movie might be funnier than he initially thought. And I was like, 'Yeah, I think it might be. I think it is.' I don't think Tony's being consciously funny. There's something funny about him, which is a different thing."

In fact, Van Sant didn't realize how funny the film actually turned out until very late in the process. "The first screening he did with friends and family, the whole audience was just laughing so hard, and he was genuinely surprised that the movie had turned out that funny, because he was just so close to it at that point," says Skarsgård with a laugh.

Despite this, though, the film still carries a real sense of pathos. "In a way, they're just two lost sons that never had a good male role model, either one of them," says Skarsgård of Hall and Kiritsis, and a scene in which they call Hall's unsympathetic father, played by Al Pacino.

"And I think that what the two of them are discovering, or at least what Tony is discovering, is that the illusion of coming from money, or having money, doesn't mean that you have everything. There is a genuine sadness in Dick as well, and that they can meet there, almost, briefly, for a moment, before the shotgun's wired onto the neck again and what has to be done has to be done."

Certain Oscars snubs are unavoidable. After all, every year brings with it a fresh batch of incredible films, and the Academy only has so much space for nominations. Each awards season necessarily involves some shocks and surprises, like this round of nominations leaving out Chase Infiniti and Jesse Plemons.

But there is one snub I was particularly dismayed about: Park Chan-wook's twisty, cruel, and absurd pitch-black comedy thriller No Other Choice. The film follows Lee Byung-hun's Yoo Man-su, a recently laid-off worker in a paper factory who decides his best bet of rejoining the industry is staging a fake job opening and killing off his competition.

The film has all the hallmarks of a Park Chan-wook production: stunning visuals, stellar performances, and a layered, hilarious script. And yet, the Academy failed to recognise the movie at all, despite its near-universal critical acclaim. This is, sadly, part of a disappointing pattern: Park Chan-wook has never been nominated for an Oscar.

For your (lack of) consideration

Despite knowing Park had a history of being snubbed, I thought No Other Choice would finally be the film that propelled him to the Dolby Theater. It's more palatable to mainstream audiences than Park's most famous work, his ultraviolent and near-nihilistically bleak Vengeance Trilogy (including Oldboy, later remade by Spike Lee), and it's anchored by a pitch-perfect performance from global star Lee Byung-hun (an actor with decades of experience, but who is probably most recognizable as Squid Game's villainous Front Man), with themes that are urgently relevant. And, like every Park Chan-wook movie, it features stunning transitions and beautiful camerawork. What's not to love?

And yet, No Other Choice was notably absent from the 2026 Oscars nominations, despite a dedicated awards campaign from Neon. In fact, Neon even playfully poked fun at the snub with a particularly cheeky billboard that read: "F your consideration."

What makes the snub even more frustrating is that No Other Choice made it to the shortlist for Best International Feature Film, but failed to get across the line into the category. Of course, it's entirely possible that, this year, the field was so competitive that No Other Choice just couldn't fit into the running. But that doesn't explain why this is an enduring pattern for Park.

A disappointing trend

The most egregious snub of Park's work actually occurred a decade ago with The Handmaiden, his 2016 reimagining of Sarah Waters' Victorian crime novel Fingersmith. The film is nothing short of a masterpiece, with lush, intricate set design, outstanding lead performances, and a deeply moving story with breathtaking twists and turns. It took home the BAFTA for Best Film Not in the English Language and was in the running for the Palme d'Or. So, why was it snubbed at the Oscars? Quite simply, Korea chose not to submit The Handmaiden for Best International Feature Film: Kim Jee-woon's action thriller The Age of Shadows was selected instead. That doesn't mean the Academy is blameless, though; the rule is only one film per country can be submitted, which is unfairly limiting for international cinema.

When Korea did submit Park's 2022 film Decision to Leave, however – the first of his films to be submitted for Oscars consideration – the neo-noir made it onto the shortlist but ultimately didn't secure any nominations. That film, too, deserved recognition for its stunning cinematography, its complex storytelling, and its quietly powerful lead performances.

Similarly, No Other Choice might not have made the cut for Best International Feature Film this year, but it was more than worthy of categories like Best Cinematography, or Best Actor for Lee Byung-hun, who gives a masterclass in physical comedy. After all, Best International Feature Film isn't the only category non-Hollywood films are up for.

Of course, it's no secret that international films have struggled for widespread recognition at the Oscars, though that is thankfully changing. Many will point to the extraordinary success of Bong Joon-ho's Parasite as the moment things truly began to shift. But, while that capitalist-critiquing black comedy memorably swept the awards back in 2020, it was actually the first Korean film to ever receive an Oscar nomination for Best International Feature Film, and only the second to even make the shortlist (the first was Lee Chang-dong's thriller Burning).

Six years later, Parasite remains the only Korean movie to be nominated in the category, though six films – including Decision to Leave and No Other Choice – have been submitted. One film in 97 years is especially shocking considering Korea's cultural dominance: K-dramas, K-pop, and K-beauty ride a huge wave of popularity in the US and beyond, and have done for years. American production Minari and American/Korean co-production Past Lives also enjoyed well-deserved Oscars recognition, including a Best Actress win for Minari's Youn Yuh-jung (making her the first Korean actor to win an Academy Award), which only makes the situation all the more baffling.

With this track record for the Academy, perhaps it's not surprising at all that none of Park Chan-wook's filmography has ever been up for these particular golden statuettes, despite awards recognition elsewhere.

Art for art's sake

Of course, it's completely valid to argue that awards recognition means little when the art is so striking. But, as Park himself pointed out after Decision to Leave was snubbed, recognition at the Oscars can have a very real effect on a filmmaker's career. "It would be hypocrisy to say that art is the only thing that matters," Park told The New Yorker. "If you get an award, it might mean you have more power, more creative freedom, in your next project. It might mean you can have a bigger budget. Maybe you can have more freedom and a bigger budget, depending on how big the award is."

Park has been open that No Other Choice struggled to secure funding when he wanted to make the film in English, as he did with his Hollywood debut, the 2013 modern Southern Gothic Stoker, which stars Nicole Kidman. "I initially wanted it to be an English-language film in accordance with the original novel, but none of the studios offered the level of budget that I wanted for the project," Park told us last year of No Other Choice. "And that's when I thought to myself, 'Why can't I just make this into a Korean film?'" Sadly, Park is subject to the same capitalist forces he so expertly skewers in the movie.

Fortunately for global cinema, though, Park was able to make the film. "And ever since that thought occurred to me, everything has very quickly developed, and, after that, I've been able to cast amazing actors like Lee Byung-hun," he continued.

Park hasn't yet revealed what his next project will be, but I can only hope that, whatever he turns his formidable talent to next, it's another classically knotty, morally complex, and bleak offering from a true master at work. And, I can only hope that, this time, it won't be snubbed yet again.

Everyone loves a stone-cold thriller, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, a limited comic book series that does just that has been snapped up for adaptation. Szymon Kudrański’s No Man’s Land began in 2025 and is set during the Cold War era. In 1963, the dead body of a woman is found frozen on the Ice Curtain — an ice bridge that anyone brave enough to cross can walk from the USA to Russia. The latest traveller that didn’t make the journey catches the attention of both sides, forcing an FBI agent and a young KGB operative to reluctantly join forces to find out what happened.

The film is being produced by Kudrański, along with Jason Berman’s A/Vantage Pictures (Highest 2 Lowest) and Jon Levin’s Sustainable Imagination. The story drew comparisons to Seven and Zodiac, with the former even serving as an inspiration for one of the comic’s variant covers, impressively created by Kudrański.

In an interview with CBR, Kudrański revealed how the idea came about by chance when a documentary about the Diomede Islands was on television while he was working away on Spawn in 2011. Soon, an idea began to take shape that really does sound like something straight out of David Fincher’s filmography.

“Because right then, in my imagination, I saw a body lying out there on that ice bridge, along with the ending of the story right then and there. But the first thought that hit me was: how would anyone even investigate that?’” explained the writer. “Two nuclear superpowers staring each other down across this no-man ’s-land that technically doesn’t belong to anyone. That was it. The conflict, the setting, the mystery — it all just clicked.”

After the cancellation of Sony's Spider-Man Universe series Silk Society, Angela Kang is making her return to TV with Never to Be Found, a soon-to-be-released psychological thriller novel.

Per Variety, the upcoming TV series is a "psychological thriller that weaves together themes of disappearance, identity, obsession, and the long shadow of trauma." The novel itself, penned by Jo Spain, alternates "between present-day Brighton/York and flashbacks to Japan and London, following protagonist Veronica Page as she becomes entangled with a suspected murderer while confronting her own painful past."

Kang became a writer for The Walking Dead season 2 before receiving a producer credit for season 3, becoming co-executive producer for season 5, and ultimately serving as showrunner for seasons 9 through 11. She was set to serve as showrunner for the Daryl Dixon spin-off, but exited due to creative differences and instead signed on to showrun Silk Society. After Kraven the Hunter ended up being a critical and financial failure, however, Sony cancelled all further SSU projects, including Silk Society. But, Sony is planning to reboot its extended Spider-Man Universe (meaning Silk Society could always make a comeback).

Kang is also set to serve as the headwriter for Katabasis, a TV series adaptation of a bestselling fantasy novel, as part of her multi-year deal with Amazon.

Mads Mikkelsen and Jared Harris are set to star in Martin Scorse's What Happens at Night, an adaptation of the best-selling novel of the same name.

The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, who play a married American couple who travel to a small, snowy European town to adopt a baby and end up staying at an all but deserted hotel littered with strange, eccentric characters.

Per Deadline, Mikkelsen is set to play Brother Emmanuel, a charismatic faith healer (who, in the book, truly ups the creep factor by convincing the unnamed wife character that she can heal from her cancer through the power of faith). The star recently played a strange resident at a strange apartment complex in Bryan Fuller's Dust Bunny... so that all checks out. There is no word yet as to who Harris will play, though we think it'll be a step-up from his character in Morbius.

What Happens at Night marks the seventh DiCaprio-Scorsese movie, with that Devil in the White City movie still... gestating. Scorsese directs from a script adapted by Patrick Marber, who adapted The Critic and Notes on a Scandal. This is the third movie based on author Peter Cameron's works, the first two being The City of Your Destination and Someday This Will Be Useful to You. Filming is reportedly underway.

An upcoming supernatural horror starring The Marvels' Brie Larson just dropped an intriguing new plot detail – and now we're even more excited to see what its producer JJ Abrams and director JT Mollner have in store for us.

Skeletons, which was previously called Fail-Safe, was just picked up by Sony, following a bidding war that saw the studio beat out the likes of Paramount, Neon and Warner Bros. for the worldwide distribution rights. In The Hollywood Reporter's write-up, it says that the film will "focus on the relationship between a son and his mother, with the latter being mysteriously placed in a secure cage each night."

We've known it'd center on a parent and child since last year, and that there was something... sinister about the former. Not that Mother, who will presumably be played by Larson, is restrained every evening – and presumably undergoes some sort of terrifying transformation. With the flick already have been described as a "creature feature", our imaginations are running wild now. Is she a werewolf? A monster? Or something different altogether?

If you've read the short by Philip Fracassi, you'll already know the answers. Though that's not to say Mollner, who co-wrote the script from an initial draft by No One Will Save You's Brian Duffield, hasn't taken creative liberties with the source material.

Just last year, he surprised even the most devoted of Stephen King fans with his take on The Long Walk, which flipped the script on who the last man standing was in the novel.

"The goal was to make these changes without pissing off constant readers, because we wanted to keep the DNA but also put something in that would surprise people who read the book, because why have the exact same experience twice?" Mollner previously told GamesRadar+. "So hopefully, we thread that needle properly, but I'm really happy with the ending. And the reason I'm happy with it, and the choices we made, is because Stephen King said he was happy with it."

A sequel to Plane, appropriately titled Ship, has been cancelled at Lionsgate after star Gerard Butler reportedly just didn't want to do it.

"It just, last-minute, Gerard [Butler] decided he didn’t want to go forward with it and there wasn't a lot of discussion about it," star Mike Colter told The Direct. "He just… two weeks out, he pulled out and we were sort of left trying to figure out what to do. And eventually, that dissolved."

Directed by Jean-François Richet, Plane stars Butler as pilot Brodie Torrance who is forced to navigate an emergency landing after his aircraft being struck by lightning. While he manages to make a safe landing, it seems the danger has only just begun as Brodie and the passengers find themselves in a remote part of the Philippines ruled by heavily armed anti-government militias. In order to find a way off the island, Torrance teams up with Louis Gaspare (Colter), a convicted murderer who was being transported on the flight.

The film debuted in January 2023 to positive reviews and managed to gross $75 million worldwide against its modest $25 million budget. A sequel was quickly greenlit that February, which was set to focus on Colter's Louis. Earlier reports stated that Butler was only meant to cameo in the sequel, not star, which makes the cancellation all the more confusing. However, according to The Direct, because the actor was set to executive-produce through his G-BASE production banner, Butler ultimately had final say as to whether or not the film moved forward.

Continued Colter: "The script. Basically picking up where we left off, what happened to that character, and how'd he get off the island. That was where we were gonna go with it. So, I was excited about it."

Walton Goggins is set to star alongside Chloe Grace Moretz in Mister, a new action-thriller from DP Wade Eastwood in his directorial debut.

Per Deadline, the upcoming film, produced by John Wick studio Thunder Road, follows a man (Goggins) "who wakes up in a strange house covered in blood and comes to realize his true identity while fighting off contract killers from his past – including everyone from his exes to his best friend." In order to get out of said house, he teams up with his estranged daughter (Moretz), who "also has ended up in the family business, but they will need to repair their relationship in order to survive."

Josh Brolin was initially tapped as lead, but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Filming begins next month in Madrid, with Goggins writing on Instagram that rehearsals have been "kicking my ass." The actor, who is just coming in hot off the success of Fallout season 2, knows his way around a gun, but the upcoming pic requires him to channel his inner Keanu Reeves (and probably fall down an escalator or something).

Moretz, who is perhaps best known for starring in Kick-Ass as well as the Carrie remake, can be seen next in romcom Love Language alongside Anthony Ramos and Manny Jacinto. Mister marks her first thriller since 2021's Mother/Android.

Move over, Final Destination 3! The team behind surprise hit Fall are gearing up to make another hair-raising thriller – and this time, it'll take place almost entirely on a broken-down rollercoaster.

Titled Invertigo, the movie is set to follow a group of "reckless teens" who convince a theme park employee to let them take a turn on a not-yet-opened ride. But when a system failure leaves them trapped on the track, hundreds of feet in the air, dark secrets come to light that threaten their changes of survival.

Fall producers James Harris and Mark Lane are on board, with director Matthias Hoene (Cockneys vs Zombies) working from a script by Kathy Charles (The Kings of Maine) and Billy O'Brien (I Am Not a Serial Killer). The film will also mark a reunion of sorts between actor Inde Navarrette and fellow producer Christian Mecuri, following the former's appearance in Dave Bautista-led action thriller Trap House and upcoming buzzy horror Obsession.

"Invertigo is a film about fear – both the immediate, visceral kind and the deeper fears we carry with us," explained Hoene (via Deadline). "Setting the story high above the ground allowed us to push the tension to an extreme, but it's the emotional pressure between these characters that truly drives the film. Inde brings an incredible intensity and vulnerability to the role, and I'm thrilled to begin this journey with such a talented cast and crew."

"We are really excited to get Invertigo going and thrilled to be working on a third film with Inde," added Mercuri. "Her performance in our production Obsession has cemented her as an incredibly exciting emerging talent."

Released in 2022, Fall centers on grieving recluse Becky (Grace Caroline Currey), who agrees to climb a 2,000-foot-tall TV tower with her daredevil best friend Hunter (Virginia Gardner). Hunter's convincing argument? That it'd be the perfect way to scatter Becky's late husband's ashes and have her finally make peace with his death. When the corroded ladder snaps during their descent, though, the real reason behind Hunter's invite is revealed. A sequel was reportedly shot last year, and will release sometime in 2026.

In Crime 101, there are three key players that the main action orbits around: Chris Hemsworth's jewellery thief Mike, Mark Ruffalo's LAPD detective Lou, and Halle Berry's insurance broker Sharon. That is, until their worlds are upended by the arrival of Ormon, played by Barry Keoghan, which also serves to throw the whole film thrillingly off balance.

Director Bart Layton previously worked with Keoghan on 2018's American Animals, a docudrama about a book heist at a Kentucky university. Crime 101 is his first time in the director's chair since, and he wrote a role specifically for Keoghan in the movie. "We have a long relationship, and I wrote that character for him, knowing that he would do it," Layton tells GamesRadar+.

Keoghan plays Ormon, an unpredictable, dangerous young thief brought in to replace Mike when his handler fears he's gone soft. Ormon is anything but, and his actions threaten to unravel everything for Mike, Lou, and Sharon.

"We tried to keep things organic and not overthought," Layton continues. "He's such an instinctive and natural actor that I kind of try and bring him in at the last minute. We talk about the backstory of the character; we talk about who he is and where he's come from. And in this case, Barry has grown up in a pretty tough environment, and he knows kids very like the character he plays in this, who've not had much in the way of emotional support or love or adult supervision. He knows them well.

"So there are things that he brings, details that he brings, that I wouldn't have written, because he's bringing that from his experience, and I tried to create a framework for him and enough information, enough detail, for him to feel very liberated. He has this very rare combination of very dangerous, but also at the same time very vulnerable, and that's, I think, the magnetic thing."

Hemsworth shares Layton's feelings about his co-star's work. "[He] brings electricity to the set and there's nothing left in the bag, you know, it is all sort of thrown out there, and gives it absolutely everything," the actor tells us. "And it's this sort of wild, unpredictable quality, which is, like, intimidating, and it's magnetic. [He's an] incredible performer."

It's been four years since Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo last shared the screen in superhero caper Thor: Ragnarok, but the Marvel stars are back together in new thriller Crime 101 – if under very different circumstances.

Hemsworth plays career thief Mike Davis, who's baffling law enforcement with his stint of slick jewellery thefts along the 101 freeway, while Ruffalo is Lou Lubesnick, the detective who thinks he's finally cracked the case – although his colleagues don't believe him.

Although Mike and Lou are on opposite sides of the law, the pair tell GamesRadar+ that they think there's a "transference" between their characters when we sit down with them and their co-star Halle Berry to discuss the movie.

One of the reasons Mike keeps successfully evading the cops is that he never, ever hurts anyone during his heists – he gets in and gets out with as little harm done as possible. Similarly, Lou comes under fire from his colleagues for not being aggressive enough. In short, they're both non-violent men operating in violent worlds.

"I was going to say yin and yang, but they're kind of more similar than they are opposite," says Hemsworth. "They both live by a code. They both have quite strong moral values that they stick to and and whether they're sort of on that side of the law or this side of it, I believe they're good people."

"And they appreciate each other," adds Ruffalo.

"Yeah, each other's skill set, as much as one is trying to catch the other," Hemsworth agrees. "They're sort of rivals, so to speak, [but] there is a certain commonality of respect there."

Berry's character, frustrated insurance broker Sharon, is brought into their orbit when her own interests collide with Mike's. "They're all pushed to the limits," she says. "And they have to make some moral judgments."

Directed by American Animals helmer Bart Layton, Crime 101 also stars Barry Keoghan, Monica Barbaro, Corey Hawkins, and Nick Nolte, and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Send Help is now officially tied with Sam Raimi's highest-rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes – and no, it's not sharing the title with his iconic horror The Evil Dead.

The gory comedy thriller debuted to a near-perfect 93% on the review aggregator this week, matching Spider-Man 2's score from 2004. Other titles of Raimi's that linger around the 90% mark include Evil Dead 2 (88%), A Simple Plan (91%), and Drag Me to Hell (92%). In short, Send Help is in good company.

Reuniting Raimi with Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness star Rachel McAdams, the movie follows dowdy office assistant Linda Liddle and her mocking, misogynistic superior Bradley Preston (Dylan O'Brien). After passing her up for a big promotion, Bradley offers Linda the chance to prove herself on an overseas work event. But when their plane crash lands on a remote island, the business trip soon turns into a blood-soaked, hierarchy-testing battle for survival.

In his review, The Film Verdict's Alonso Duralde praised the flick for continually toying with audience expectations. "Viewers might initially sympathize with poor Linda's plight while finding Bradley to be an irredeemable corporate monster, but those initial impressions don't necessarily last," he wrote.

"No matter what, Sam Raimi has taken us back to genre-movie paradise. Send Help is an absolutely unhinged splash," said AMovieGuy.com's Leo Brady.

"A gripping, often brutal exploration of power, control, and inequality. Even when its thematic ambitions falter, its pacing, performances and relentless tension ensure it remains a deeply unsettling offering from Raimi," penned HeyUGuys critic Linda Marric.

"This viciously funny horror comedy is not a typical 'stranded on an island' story," added Culture Mix's Carla May in her write-up. The movie taps into rage that employees can feel when they have a horrible boss, and it shows what can happen when a downtrodden person gets the upper hand."

Not everyone was super into Raimi's latest, however, with Screen Anarchy's Kyle Logan claiming: "Send Help works as comedy every so often, whether it's because of Raimi's penchant for making violence downright goofy or the stars' charisma, but it's so overlong and stagnant as anything else that the majority of it is just a slog."

"It's a movie whose entertaining initial premise and shrewd satire are damaged by Raimi's need to juice everything up with spurious 'horror' flourishes for the fanbase, on-brand gore eruptions that aren't really scary and undermine the film's believability, turning everything into silliness," echoed The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw.

Yoo Man-su has it all. A loving family, two adorable dogs, ownership of his beautiful home, and a career of 25 years that he takes great pride in.

But, in Oldboy director Park Chan-wook's latest black comedy thriller No Other Choice, it only takes a few seconds to rip it all away. Man-su's beloved career evaporates when the new American owners of his paper factory lay him off. After an attempt to break back into the industry falls excruciatingly flat when a nervy Man-su bombs an interview, he decides his only path forward is to stage a fake job opening for a paper company, then kill off the competition one by one. Easy, right?

Well, wrong. Man-su quickly discovers murder is not an easy task – not just morally, but logistically, too – and his madcap quest to return to the paper industry at all costs sets him on a path that threatens to obliterate him and his family.

Sympathy for the devil

No Other Choice is arriving decades into director Park's career, but the legendary filmmaker – the mind behind instant classics like The Handmaiden, the Vengeance Trilogy, and Decision to Leave – has had his sights set on an adaptation of Donald Westlake's The Ax for almost as long.

"It's been 20 years since I first read the novel and decided that I wanted to adapt it, but I have actually been doing the work of the adaptation for around 16 years," director Park tells us when we meet with him and star Lee Byung-hun at London Film Festival. "And, I initially wanted it to be an English-language film in accordance with the original novel, but none of the studios offered the level of budget that I wanted for the project. And that's when I thought to myself, 'Why can't I just make this into a Korean film?' And ever since that thought occurred to me, everything has very quickly developed, and, after that, I've been able to cast amazing actors like Lee Byung-hun."

Lee, who is perhaps most recognizable as Squid Game's villainous Front Man, stars as the hapless Man-su. This ostensible family man starts out flawed but sympathetic, floundering at the thought of losing his home, but aghast at the concept of downsizing to an apartment. Luckily, Man-su's wife, Son Ye-jin's Miri, proves more pragmatic. She makes the difficult decision to temporarily rehome their dogs – to the agony of their youngest daughter – and even cancels Netflix, to the disdain of their son. Just like Man-su can't comprehend finding work outside of the paper industry, he also can't comprehend any significant lifestyle changes. He even struggles with Miri working as a dental assistant, increasingly paranoid that she might be having an affair with her boss, and convinced that, as the man of the house, it's his job to provide for his family.

Man-su's murderous scheming does even more to fracture this already fragile family, however, as his escapades take him away from the loved ones that need him in pursuit of a goal we're always painfully aware is absurd. Despite this, the film accomplishes a fine balancing act of making Man-su sympathetic, even though he has much in common with his victims – who themselves are former paper workers who have fallen on hard times – and is obliviously turning the ruthless competition of job-hunting under capitalism into a literal bloodbath.

"One characteristic of this story is that when you're typically eliminating and murdering somebody in the film, the audience follows the emotions of the protagonists," Lee tells us. "There are strong themes of revenge in those types of stories, so the audience is typically cheering on the protagonist, supporting them, really wishing that they'll get rid of and eradicate this other person.

"However, here in this film, Man-su is eliminating people that he has no prior relationship with. In fact, when he closely observes them and gets to know them, he even empathizes with them and has a lot of sympathy with them, which makes it really harder for him to act upon and execute his plans following his decision," he explains. "So, the audience could be following Man-su, cheering him on, and then all of a sudden depart from him, and just observe him from far away at a distance, which is quite an unusual, odd experience for the audience. So, then they can go back to him and then resonate and sympathize with him, and then again, jump out and observe him from further away. And the film is a repetition of that. However, for me as the actor playing Man-su, I was always on his side cheering him on."

Make 'em laugh

On paper, No Other Choice might sound like a deeply serious thriller, then. But, like many of director Park's films, pitch-black humor abounds – some critics have even compared Man-su's antics to Looney Tunes. While Lee is indeed giving a physically comical performance, he never viewed his role as slapstick.

"For me, honestly, Man-su is an ordinary man facing an extreme situation, leading him to make very extreme decisions as well," Lee tells us. "And in this process of acting upon his extreme decisions, he undergoes many changes psychologically and emotionally, ultimately leading up to his self-destructive situation. So, during this journey, for me, I gave my total focus on all the changes in his emotions that he goes through, and that was what I put my most thought and efforts into.

"And, even after I'd finished the film, I never considered that I was doing slapstick comedy in any way," he continues. "When we went to Venice and Toronto, and various journalists and critics were reviewing it as such, I was like, 'Okay, yeah, I can see why that would appear as being a slapstick comedy.' When you look at the protagonist closely, he's actually in a very desperate situation, falling on hard times. However, if you span out… I can see why it will look funny. And I think that's really the appeal of this film."

Lee's performance is an effortless, tonally perfect fit for this hilarious dark satire, so it might not come as a surprise to discover that this is not his and director Park's first collaboration. The duo first worked together on 2000's Joint Security Area, a poignant procedural in which Lee plays a South Korean soldier who befriends two guards on the opposite side of the Demilitarized Zone, and again on the short film Cut, part of the horror anthology Three… Extremes, which stars Lee as a successful film director who endures a nightmarish evening at the violent mercy of one of his extras.

"I guess if you look at it in terms of years that have passed in our careers, it has been many years since we've worked together," Park says. "But over those years, we've always stayed friends and caught up quite often. So, it didn't feel that long to me. In fact, I was surprised to find out that it's been so long since we'd last worked together, so it didn't feel like a lot of time had passed at all."

With No Other Choice receiving near-universal critical acclaim, here's hoping another collaboration comes sooner rather than later.

The Razzies 2026 nominations are in – and it's bad news for War of the Worlds.

The sci-fi thriller, which stars Ice Cube as a computer security analyst who uncovers dark government secrets in the midst of an alien invasion, is up for six gongs, including Worst Picture. Not that we're super surprised, though, given its 4% Rotten Tomatoes score...

Disney's live-action remake Snow White didn't fare too well, either, earning nods in six categories, too, including Worst Supporting Actor and Worst Screenplay.

The movies' directors were seemingly not safe, either, with both Rich Lee (War of the Worlds) and Marc Webb (Snow White) up for gongs alongside Star Trek: Section 31's Olatunde Osunsanmi, Hurry Up Tomorrow's Trey Edward Shults, and Electric State's The Russo Brothers.

Since the Razzies, formally known as the Golden Raspberry Awards, were introduced back in 1981, film fans have slammed the controversial event for being "mean-spirited", "petty", and "unfunny". Many have even called for it to be cancelled, but the campaigns look to have had no luck yet.

The organization was once forced to issue an apology over its "insensitive" nomination of Firestarter actor Ryan Kiera Armstrong, who was just 12 years old at the time, and rescind an "award" given to Bruce Willis in 2021 after his family disclosed he'd been diagnosed with aphasia.

In the past, a select few have won Oscars and Razzies in the same year, including Aladdin composer Alan Menken who picked up an Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Razzie for Worst Original Song – for Aladdin and Newsies, respectively – in 1993. Sandra Bullock won Worst Actress for her role in All About Steve in 2010, before picking up the Best Actress gong for The Blind Side the very next day.

He might be praying to the Allfather for a hand in the recent Avengers: Doomsday trailer, but Chris Hemsworth is certainly keeping his cool in the new trailer for director Bart Layton’s upcoming thriller, Crime 101.

The new movie, which seems to be matching the temperature of films like Heat and The Town, is adapted from a Don Winslow novella set in Los Angeles. Hemsworth takes the lead as a top-tier criminal who regularly leaves the law in the dust and plans to keep it that way for the final job he has lined up. As is customary for every thief’s last gig, though, he runs into issues. In this case, it’s an insurance broker (Halle Berry) who, after being repeatedly sidelined at the company she’s put everything into, chooses to team up and settle a score of her own.

Their big plan hits a snag in the form of a determined detective (Mark Ruffalo), who could wreck the whole scheme this double-act has in play, or worse, take them down permanently.

Feeling like a good old-fashioned crime caper with an impressive cast to boot, it’s an exciting prospect to see the former MCU co-stars playing cops and robbers for a change. Ruffalo has already done a brilliant job of flashing a badge, particularly recently with the hit HBO series, Task. Keeping this in mind, it’ll be great to see him try to throw the book at Hemsworth here, as well. Add in a blonde-haired Barry Keoghan being the tearaway criminal that could spoil everything, and we might have a worthy watch on our hands.

Less than three weeks after The Housemaid hit the big screen, a sequel to the Sydney Sweeney-led thriller has now officially been announced.

Based on the novel by Freida McFadden, The Housemaid follows Millie (Sweeney), a woman with a troubled past who takes on a job as a live-in housemaid for a wealthy family, who have dark secrets of their own. Amanda Seyfried plays her employer, Nina Winchester.

The movie has been a hit at the box office, making $133 million at the global box office (against a budget of $35 million) since it was released on December 19. The Housemaid has had mixed reviews, but currently holds a Certified Fresh score of 73% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The upcoming sequel will adapt McFadden's follow-up novel, The Housemaid's Secret, which sees Millie start working for another family. Sweeney and her co-star Michele Morrone, who played the Winchesters' groundskeeper Enzo, will return for round two, along with director Paul Feig and screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine. Filming is due to start later this year.

"It’s been thrilling to see audiences around the world fall in love with The Housemaid and the incredible work of our talented cast and crew," Feig said in a statement (via Variety). "We’re lucky that Freida McFadden has already extended Millie’s journey on the page, and that we get to work with Rebecca Sonnenshine and Lionsgate to bring this next story to audiences."

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon reunite in Netflix's upcoming thriller The Rip, and the streamer has just unveiled its first full trailer. With a star-studded cast and a story inspired by true events, the footage teases intense action and unexpected betrayals as a life-changing amount of money quickly turns friends into foes.

In the trailer, which you can watch above, we get a glimpse at Damon and Affleck's police officers, whose lives turn upside down when they find a $20 million haul during an operation. The trailer features a race against time to secure the money, which will put their lives in some serious danger.

Per the official logline: "Upon discovering millions in cash in a derelict stash house, trust among a team of Miami cops begins to fray. As outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything is called into question – including who they can rely on."

Directed by Joe Carnahan, The Rip also stars Steven Yeun, One Battle After Another's Teyana Taylor, The Flash star Sasha Calle, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott Adkins, and Kyle Chandler.

The thriller unveiled a first teaser trailer back in September, teasing the nail-biting story and showing off its impressive cast. With less than a week left until its arrival on Netflix, the official trailer has made it clear that this is one of the most exciting releases in early 2026.

That's partly because Damon and Affleck's iconic relationship on (and off) screen, which dates back to the Oscar-winning film Good Will Hunting in the '90s. Most recently, they starred together in Ridley Scott's 2021 medieval drama The Last Duel, and Affleck's 2023 true-story dramedy Air.

Damon will also be starring in one of the most highly-anticipated upcoming movies in 2026, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, where he plays the lead character Odysseus, the Greek king of Ithaca.

The first trailer for Steven Spielberg's mysterious UFO movie Disclosure Day has landed, and it's every bit as gripping as we'd hoped.

The promo begins ominously, with an unseen character asking: "If you found out we weren't alone. If someone showed you, proved it to you… would that frighten you?" As they're speaking, we're exposed to a montage of out-of-contexts shots; a crucifix in someone's hand, a wide-eyed little girl sitting up in bed, and a herd of stags staring into someone's window. Eerie.

Things take an even darker turn, though, when Emily Blunt's weather presenter goes live to Kansas City, only to freeze mid-broadcast and start emitting creepy inhuman sounds.

"People have a right to know the truth," Josh O'Connor's character says in a later scene. "It belongs to 7 billion people."

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you, so I'm gonna show you," he adds, when his off-screen scene partner quizzes him on what truth he's referring to. "Full disclosure to the whole world, all at once." After that, we're treated to more predictable extra-terrestrial flick iconography, from crop circles to techy government control rooms. Watch it above.

Colin Firth, Bad Sisters' Eve Hewson, Thunderbolts* star Wyatt Russell, and The Running Man's Colman Domingo round out the supporting cast, while Spielberg's frequent collaborator David Koepp penned the script.

Disclosure Day's teaser arrives just a few days after cryptic billboards for the movie, which promised "all will be disclosed" on its June 12 release date, popped up in Los Angeles and New York City. The artwork on the ads was appropriately hard to decipher, though you could clearly make out an upside-down eye and an eyebrow. Whoever's features they are had impossibly pale skin, and was surrounded by black wing-like shapes.

Now we know said wings likely belong to a cardinal, thanks to the bird being glimpsed in the trailer. With so little to go on, it's unclear just what their inclusion means, though it seems worth noting that cardinals are famously territorial and will often fight intruders, predators, and even their own reflections if they mistake it for a competitor beaking in on their space. Would humans do the same if Earth was "threatened" in a similar way?

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery hasn’t even landed on Netflix yet, and already Rian Johnson has been thinking up one of his ideal suspects for whatever case Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc finds himself on next. The new film already has a whole host of stars, including Glenn Close, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Thomas Haden Church, and Josh Brolin. Should he ever get Blanc back on detective mode, though, Johnson thinks Oscar-winning legend Meryl Streep would be a prime candidate.

Speaking to IndieWire about the future prospects of the Knives Out franchise, the director admitted that “There are so many great actors I’d like to work with. But, yes, if you’re reading this, Meryl Streep, I feel like you’d slot into a murder mystery very well.”

She’s already proven she can handle whodunits, having appeared in three seasons of the hit show Only Murders in the Building. Factoring this in, it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to see her go toe-to-toe with Daniel Craig’s southern sleuth. Also, the fact that she’s Meryl Streep assures it wouldn’t be that much of a stretch for her to do anything, if we’re honest.

Further pushing for his dream pick, Johnson told Variety, “I feel like Meryl Streep would kill it. She was born to be in one of these movies; she’s hilarious.”

One of the stars of Wake Up, Dead Man, Andrew Scott, has already spoken highly of not just Streep, but Only Murders in the Building as a whole, and how both the show and the movie that's now out in select theaters take a stab at the genre in their own way. In an exclusive interview with GamesRadar+, Scott said, “Only Murders in the Building is a great example, in that you've got the two best comedians in the world, and Selena Gomez and Meryl Streep; all these incredible comedic people. I suppose that juxtaposition of those two things is what people are into.”

Now You See Me: Now You Don't director Ruben Fleischer says the film's big twist ending is the greatest magic trick of all.

"It definitely was not in the original script, but it was always an idea that was really important to me, that the movie as a whole works as a magic trick, not just featuring tricks throughout," Fleischer tells GamesRadar+.

"But that the entire movie functions as a magic trick and the reveal, like any good magic trick, when it comes in the third act...I had the opportunity to watch the movie with an audience, like a public audience, and I heard that same audible gasp, and you can't imagine the delight that I had as a filmmaker just knowing that the trick I had played on the audience worked. And so I guess to a degree, although I claim I don't do magic tricks, that was certainly one that I was really proud of and happy to participate in."

Fleischer directed the third installment in the magician-heist franchise from a screenplay by Michael Lesslie, the writing duo of Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, and Seth Grahame-Smith. After a 10-year hiatus, the Four Horsemen, played by Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, and Isla Fisher, are forced to reunite after receiving a series of mysterious tarot cards. Their new mission leads to a team-up with three young con-artists/magicians (played by Dominic Sessa, Justice Smith, and Ariana Greenblatt), and together they must travel the world in order to retrieve a priceless diamond from an evil billionaire (played by none other than Rosamund Pike).

We won't spoil it for you, but the ending is one you definitely won't see coming. In fact, the series of clues that are left for the audience throughout the film doesn't even register until a clever montage shows us that the big reveal was right under our noses the entire time. If you think you've got it figured out...you don't. Trust me.

Continues Fleischer: "And maybe it gives me a little insight into what the experience of a magician has. Whenever they perform a trick and get to see that astonishment on the face of the audience they're performing to, to a lesser degree, we got to have a taste of that here."

Now You See Me: Now You Don't star Rosamund Pike says she wanted her eccentric billionaire villain to be "worthy" of the franchise's Four Horsemen.

"I wanted to do a movie that I felt people would just really enjoy, and it wasn't too intellectually demanding. It was just a good time. I wanted to be part of something like that," Pike tells GamesRadar+. "And I really believe in the franchise. My part in it is to serve the franchise by delivering a villain that's worthy of these very intelligent horsemen. That was fun for me. It was sort of not too much pressure. But I had the freedom to play. And the chance to work with people I really admire. You know, the original Horsemen, they're all great. And they're great to work with. "

In Now You See Me: Now You Don't, Pike plays Veronika Vanderberg, the South African CEO of an unethical diamond company involved in money laundering and descendant of a billionaire family that is later revealed to have some pretty dark roots. The Four Horsemen, after taking a 10-year break, are suddenly called to reunite and retrieve a priceless diamond known as The Heart from Veronika's clutches.

Of course, Pike is no stranger to playing villains. She made her feature film debut in Die Another Day as Miranda Frost, an M16 agent who betrays Pierce Brosnan's James Bond before going on to play Amy Dunne in David Fincher's Gone Girl (though Amy is a hero in my heart, thank you very much).

"I wanted Veronica to be having fun. I think the best villains are, which I kind of learned probably post-Bond, really. They're most watchable when they're fun to watch and they're having fun," she explains.

"So I felt that was so important in her whole sort of mastery of the illusion of the diamond business, how you're selling and you're selling an illusion. It's all about playing with words and people's minds really, you know, saying that this thing is valuable. And we see her able to turn on a dime from being very plausible and magnanimous and speaking to the workers and the dignitaries at her diamond mine, and then we quickly see her being ruthless in the boardroom, and we think, oh, okay, I don't quite know where I am with this woman."

We won't spoil it for you, but there's a pretty incredible scene at the beginning of the film where Veronika displays just how powerful she truly is just by using her words. She's a commanding force, and the scene sets up how dangerous she is...and has the potential to be.

"She's sort of in a room full of men doing something that, as a woman, you might admire. You know, she takes these men to task, and yet there's also something uncomfortably kind of manipulative about it. I think, to me, it's important there's this sort of blurred line between someone who has feminist values that you might admire, and yet it also makes you uncomfortable because there's definitely something very wrong with it."

Now You See Me: Now You Don't director Ruben Fleischer says signing on to direct the third installment in the magician-heist franchise was an opportunity to make fun movies that people love, and to reunite once again with Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson.

"I love the first two Now You See Me movies. And that was in part because they star my pals Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson – we worked together on Zombieland 1 and 2," Fleischer tells GamesRadar+. "And it was after Zombieland 2, I thought to myself, if I can just keep working with people I love and making movies that are just really fun for the rest of my career, I'll be very happy. And so when this came about, it was not only an opportunity to work with those two, but also the rest of the cast, who I've always admired from a distance, Isla, Dave – Morgan Freeman obviously is a legend. And I just was really excited to join that family as well and to continue to have fun making movies for audiences to love all throughout the world."

Zombieland, starring Eisenberg and Harrelson, marked Fleischer's feature directorial debut and was a box office success. The post-apocalyptic zombie comedy grossed $104 million worldwide against a budget of $23 million, but wouldn't see a sequel until 2019. In the meantime, Fleischer worked with Eisenberg on the 2011 action-comedy Thirty Minutes or Less. In 2021, he directed Harrelson in Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

"That's why this was my fourth time with [Woody and Jesse] because they're truly the funnest people to work with," Fleischer explains. "I think Woody Harrelson is an American treasure, and there's no one else like him for better or worse in the world. And he is such an interesting actor to watch, and he just delights me in everything he brings to it. It's always unexpected. It's always original."

In the Now You See Me franchise, Eisenberg plays Atlas, the leader of a world-renowned group of master illusionists and magicians known as the Four Horsemen. Harrelson stars as Merritt McKinney, the oldest member of the group who specializes in mentalism and hypnosis. In the third installment, the group has been broken up for over 10 years...but a mysterious new mission involving a billionaire, a diamond, and a Nazi bloodline brings them together. Horsemen members Dave Franco and Isla Fisher return, alongside Lizzy Caplan and Morgan Freeman. They team up with a young group of magicians (Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa, and Ariana Greenblatt) and embark on a dangerous journey that takes them around the world. Rosamund Pike plays the aforementioned billionaire.

Continues Fleischer: "And I think if you were to look up the definition of the word mensch in the dictionary, I think Jesse Eisenberg would appear, because he's just the kindest, most generous, humble, selfless, talented, brilliant people I am lucky enough to know. I adore him in every way and feel really lucky to get to work with him. And if I could do every project with Jesse, I promise you I would, because he's the greatest."

Now You See Me: Now You Don't is the latest film to join the themed popcorn bucket craze, and this one just might be the best one yet.

In the brief video, which can be viewed below, a movie theater employee scoops popcorn in what appears to be an ordinary box with a holographic Now You See Me: Now You Don't Wrap. She closes the top of the box, and hands it to the customer, who then opens it from the side... where there is no popcorn to be found. It's a pretty classic close-up magic trick, and we won't tell you how it's done, but it's one of the most famous and more accessible illusions out there. Given that the Four Horsemen in Now You See Me: Now You Don't are master illusionists, it only makes sense that the film's popcorn bucket would allow fans to become magicians of their own.

Now You See Me: Now You Don't, directed by Ruben Fleischer, is the third installment in the magician-heist franchise. The Running Man director Edgar Wright has revealed the key difference between his new action-packed Stephen King adaptation and other action-thrillers like John Wick and Kill Bill.

"This has as much suspense as action, because you’re in a movie where your lead character is trying not to attract attention," Wright told SFX magazine. "It isn’t a film where he’s running into a crowd and beating everybody up. That would be ill-advised. But it does feel intense because you’re with him the entire way and you’re experiencing the developments of the story as he is. We don’t cut back to the studio audience or the baddies. We stay with Ben, we only see what he sees."

Based on the novel by Stephen King, The Running Man follows Ben Richards, played by Glen Powell, a contestant in the televised Running Man competition. Competitors must stealthily outrun a group of hitmen for 30 days in order to win a life-changing amount of money but, if you're caught, it's game over – literally.

"We tried to create situations that seemed relatively grounded," Wright continued. "We’ve had two decades of action where you’re used to seeing very fanciful, stylized stuff on screen – just the ongoing Hong Kong influence in Hollywood, from Kill Bill to John Wick to films I’ve made. Because of who Ben Richards is, this was an opportunity to bring it down to a more relatable level."

"The references we’ve talked about on this movie are everything from Die Hard to Escape From New York. It’s ordinary people against extraordinary odds," Powell added, whose character, Ben, is just a regular guy in a desperate situation who needs to help his family.

"I’ve always loved movies with people like Kevin Costner, Kurt Russell, and Harrison Ford. It’s been a real blast because the stuff we’re doing on this movie isn’t random wirework and relying on visual effects. It’s all in-camera. It’s all happening around you. The explosions are real, people are flying past you…"

Two KPop Demon Hunters stars are reuniting in another K-pop themed movie, though this upcoming thriller sounds very different from the wholesome family fun of the Netflix sensation.

May Hong, who voices Mira in KPop Demon Hunters, has joined the cast of upcoming thriller Perfect Girl, per Deadline. The film is described as "Scream meets Black Swan," and it sounds like a particularly cutthroat story about a new K-pop group getting ready to debut.

"With only four spots available in the band and the final cut a week away, the competition is off the charts. When a talented and mysterious new girl is introduced at the last minute, things start to get strange – girls are being hunted and attacked one by one, but who is responsible for the carnage, and more importantly… who will make the final cut?" reads the synopsis.

Along with Hong, newcomers to the cast are Peter Lee Jae Yoon, Ally, K-pop idols Nancy, Siyoon, and Chaerin, AC Bonifacio, and Samantha Cochran. They join Arden Cho (who voices Rumi in KPop Demon Hunters), Mortal Kombat 2's Adeline Rudolph, John Kim, and Jeon Somi.

The movie is currently filming in Thailand, with a script by Lynn Q. Yu and Hong Won-ki directing. It will feature six new songs and is an English-language film.

Perfect Girl doesn't yet have a release date. As for KPop Demon Hunters, that film returned to theaters over Halloween weekend, and it's also Netflix's most popular release ever.

"I'm waiting for the call, just like you," Rei Ami, who provides the singing voice of Zoey, said recently of a sequel to the movie. "You're gonna find out when I do, so we'll chat then."

A group of lucky fans get to be among the first to see Now You See Me: Now You Don't for free – and it's all thanks to a card trick performed by Jesse Eisenberg.

In the last week, a series of mysterious posters advertising a magic show were posted around New York City. The poster read: See My Friend Jesse Perform a Magic Trick. 1pm @ Tompkins Square Park, Saturday October 25." Now You See Me fans were pretty quick to figure out that the Jesse in question was none other than star Jesse Eisenberg, who plays legendary magician J. Daniel Atlas in the franchise.

In the brief video, which you can view below, Eisenberg does a pretty classic, "Is this your card?" trick and pulls it from the woman's jacket. He informs the audience that every single person who received a playing card from his deck gets to use it as a ticket for an early screening of Now You See Me Now You Don't.

Now You See Me: Now You Don't. directed by Ruben Fleischer, is the third installment in the magician-heist franchise. It also marks Fleischer's fourth collaboration with Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson, whom he first worked with on the horror-comedy Zombieland.

The all-star cast includes Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, and Morgan Freeman in reprisals of their roles, with newcomers to the franchise being Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa, Ariana Greenblatt, and Rosamund Pike (who plays the threequel's main villain).

The end of the world is a familiar scenario on screen – aliens obliterating the White House, Apes rising to the top of the food chain, you know the drill. But you've probably never seen an end-of-the-world movie quite like A House of Dynamite.

Set across the 19 minutes that follow the detection of a rogue nuclear missile heading towards US soil, it's a terrifyingly plausible and meticulously researched account of how the world could forever change in a matter of minutes. Looping around, Rashomon-style, to show the house of cards collapse at multiple different levels of US Strategic Command, it features a star-studded cast, including Rebecca Ferguson, Idris Elba, Anthony Ramos and Tracy Letts.

Ferguson plays Captain Olivia Walker, whose team attempts to coordinate countermeasures from within the bowels of the White House. For the Dune star, the film shines a very real spotlight on the precarious place the world finds itself in, thanks to nuclear armament.

"I think it's just too much to fathom sometimes," Ferguson tells GamesRadar+. "And I think the film is going, 'Hey, let's talk about this. Do we think this is correct? Do we think we should use nuclear warheads to keep the peace? Do we think that the President, or any President, or any head of state should be able to press a button and activate a nuclear war? Isn't that a bit weird?'"

Directed by Kathryn Bigelow and written by Noah Oppenheim, a key element of the film's power is that what you see is about as close to a fly-on-the-wall perspective of how a nuclear attack would play out as most of us are likely to get.

"What you realize is that the piece is really well researched, I mean, down to a documentary level of detail by the time it got to us," says co-star Tracy Letts, who plays Air Force General Anthony Brady. "Noah already knew a lot about the topic before he ever even wrote it, but then it was vetted and revetted by any number of experts in the field, people who actually held these positions. So all the language was accurate, all the protocols were accurate."

That verisimilitude extended to the film's sets – many reconstructions of real situation rooms. "Kathryn said they were allowed into the situation room for a couple of minutes, but they weren't allowed to take any pictures," Ferguson says. "So Jeremy [Hindle], who is the production designer, I don't know how he did it, he would memorize or document everything, because apparently it's down like the carpet, the color, the fabric, the wallpaper, the wooden benches. Everything was as accurate as you could be."

For Ferguson and Letts, the film serves as a dire warning: a nation like the US can have the most advanced nuclear deterrent system in the world, but no such system is foolproof when humans are involved. "That is terrifying, because now we understand the power that comes with nuclear weapons and the fact that one person has the possibility of activating a nuclear war," Ferguson says. "I mean, okay, what do you do with that? I mean, how is that an option? We retaliate with nukes. I mean, something needs to be done."

The first trailer for Crime 101 is here, and it sees Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo engaged in a high-stakes cat and mouse chase.

Hemsworth plays Davis, a successful thief who operates along the 101 freeway on the west coast of the US. We see him team up with Sharon (Halle Berry), as he promises to make the high-value items her company insures "disappear" without anyone getting hurt.

"You're about to break every rule you've ever lived by. What makes this job different?" Sharon asks Davis in the trailer, which you can watch above. "There comes a moment when you realize you don't have as much time as you thought you had," he replies.

However, things seemingly get more complicated when rival thief Orman (Barry Keoghan) becomes involved – and, of course, Ruffalo's detective is hot on his heels. "As smart as that guy is, he can't help but form a pattern. I'm getting close," he says.

Per the official synopsis, "Davis is an elusive thief whose high-stakes heists have mystified police. He’s planning his biggest ever score – hoping it’ll be his last – when his path collides with Sharon, a disillusioned insurance executive whom he’s forced to work with, and Orman, a rival thief with far more disturbing methods than Davis's. As the multi-million dollar heist approaches, relentless detective Lt. Lubesnik closes in on the operation, raising the stakes even higher, and the line between hunter and hunted starts to blur. Each of them is soon forced to confront the cost of their respective choices – and the realisation that there's no turning back."

Adapted from the novella of the same name by Don Winslow, the movie is directed by Bart Layton and co-written by Layton and Conclave screenwriter Peter Straughan. It's Layton's first time behind the camera since 2018's American Animals, which starred Evan Peters and Keoghan as students carrying out a heist of rare books at a Kentucky university.

The cast also includes Monica Barbaro, Corey Hawkins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Nick Nolte.

It may be 11 years since The Guest first arrived on the big screen, but its star Dan Stevens is still up for making a sequel to the action thriller.

“I’m very willing," Stevens told JoBlo. "I’m very willing, although I will say, time is running out for me to be in the shape that David was in ten years ago. So we’d better make it soon; otherwise, it’s going to be tricky. As to how likely it is to happen, I don’t know."

Released in 2014, The Guest was directed by Adam Wingard and stars Stevens as David, a soldier who visits a grieving family claiming to be their late son's best friend from his time posted in Afghanistan. Invited to stay as long as he wants to, the local town is soon rocked by a series of deaths – and the family begins to wonder if David is involved. The movie made a loss at the box office, but was a hit with critics and fans.

Stevens and Wingard have since re-teamed for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which was released last year, and their next collaboration is Onslaught, an upcoming action-horror movie. Co-starring Adria Arjona, Rebecca Hall, and Drew Starkey, it follows a mother's attempts to keep her loved ones safe after a mysterious threat escapes from a military base.

No Other Choice, the latest movie from Oldboy director Park Chan-wook, is now certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Park's first film since 2022's Decision to Leave has scored a perfect 100% on the review aggregator site since it premiered at the Venice Film Festival in August.

Squid Game's Lee Byung-hun, who plays the Front Man in the Netflix series, stars as Man-su, a veteran employee of a paper company who's abruptly laid off. After an interview for a new job at a rival company ends in humiliating rejection, Man-su sets out on a brutal (and darkly funny) mission to eliminate his competition, combining the Vengeance Trilogy director's signature bloody violence with black comedy and social satire.

"No Other Choice isn't just Park's funniest film, but his most humane, too – and that's quite something for a comedy as violent as this one," writes the BBC, while Variety's review says calls the movie "the latest exhibit in the mounting body of evidence suggesting Park Chan-wook may be the most elegant filmmaker alive."

"The film is extremely amusing, certainly, but it's simultaneously a poignant study of the desperation of the long-term jobless and the needless cruelty of the corporate world," says Screen Daily.

Meanwhile, IndieWire writes that it's "the rare film that feels sympathetic toward its protagonist without ever rooting for him, and Lee's elastic performance as Man-su is key to the balancing act of Park's tragicomic tone."

Rachel McAdams finds herself stranded on an island with her mean-spirited manager in the intriguing first trailer for Sam Raimi's new horror-thriller Send Help. Think Lost meets Horrible Bosses and well, you're pretty much got it...

Described as "darkly comedic" by Entertainment Weekly, who shared first look images prior to the promo dropping on October 14, the movie follows Linda Liddle, as she and her superior Bradley Preston (Dylan O'Brien) crash land on the way to an event. What started out as a regular business trip turns into a bloodsoaked battle for survival, with the squabbling duo having to put aside their differences – and reassess their power dynamics – in a bid to make it back home.

The teaser starts with O'Brien's character telling McAdams' that while she's "good with numbers", he just doesn't see the benefit of making her an executive just yet. With that, he reminds her that "the Bangkok merger" is coming up, and encourages her to use it as an opportunity to prove herself. Well, obviously, given the premise... they don't make it to Bangkok... Check it out above.

"The pitch was outrageous and original," Raimi, who previously directed McAdams in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, told the publication. "I knew right away that I wanted to direct this picture."

He continued: "What I really love about this story is that it's an underdog tale at its core. Not only is it about survival on a deserted island, but it's also a story of female empowerment and transformation. Watching a once-powerful boss find himself dependent on someone he underestimated is satisfying. Our story is universal! We need to encourage our society to treat people with respect and kindness, regardless of status. It's especially rewarding to see our heroine, Linda, come into her own in such an unexpected environment."

The trailer for Greenland 2 is here, and it looks like the perfect mix of Silo and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.

The first look at the apocalyptic thriller, officially titled Greenland 2: Migration, opens with a breakneck-speed recap of the first movie, as a voiceover explains: "Space agencies are tracking the fragment. They're predicting an extinction-level event. The greatest chance of survival are the bunkers in Greenland." Watch it above.

Now, if you've seen the original – which I certainly have, thanks to my stepdad streaming it on Prime Video more times than I can count when it released on the platform in 2020 – then you'd know all that already. You'd also know that the first film ended with Atlanta-based engineer John Garrity (Gerard Butler) successfully reaching said bunkers with his wife Allison (Deadpool's Morena Baccarin) and their son Nathan (Roger Dale Floyd).

The sequel, then, picks up five years later, with the Garritys having spent all that time underground. "Everybody says that this is the new normal," Garrity can be heard saying in the trailer. "But now it isn't all that new, and it definitely ain't normal."

"I know it's tough being stuck down here, but it's too dangerous outside," he tells Nathan (now played by Jojo Rabbit's Roman Griffin Davis) in a later scene. Or is it? Turns out, environmental scientists have learned that there's a huge crater in Southern France that might have survived the comet's destruction. "We believe it's a safe zone. There could be breathable air, drinkable water..." one character claims. But only a select few, including the Garritys, are willing to risk it all to get there...

Ric Roman Waugh directs, working from a script by Chris Sparling and Mitchell LaFortune. Amber Rose Revah, Sophie Thompson, Trond Fausa Aurvåg, and William Abadie round out the supporting cast.

The new trailer for A House of Dynamite is here, and the latest glimpse at the Netflix thriller takes us right into the powder keg of a political landscape inhabited by Rebecca Ferguson and Idris Elba.

"I always thought just being ready is the point," Elba's President of the United States begins in the new A House of Dynamite trailer. "It keeps people in check. It keeps the world straight." What follows is a pressure-cooker of a political thriller as legions of staff and power players deal with the fallout (and the possibility of an even nastier nuclear fallout) as confusion reigns over a surprise attack.

Directed by Oscar-winner Kathryn Bigelow, A House of Dynamite deals with a race against time after a missile strike is aimed at the United States. With more questions than answers, those in the corridors of power scramble to discover the truth before it's too late.

A House of Dynamite's cast also features Anthony Ramos, Gabriel Basso, Jared Harris, Tracy Letts, Jonah Hauer-King, and Greta Lee.

Speaking to Empire, Bigelow hopes A House of Dynamite is able to start a discourse surrounding nuclear warfare, mutually assured destruction (MAD), and the stockpiling of weapons.

"My dream scenario would be a reduction of the nuclear stockpile," Bigelow said. "That would be a sane response to what we’ve created. I don’t understand how annihilation is a defence measure, and that’s my biggest conundrum. ‘Oh, good, I’m very well defended, but we’re all dead.’ No, that doesn’t work!"

A House of Dynamite gets a UK cinema release on October 3 and a global cinema release on October 10 before streaming on Netflix from October 24.

50 years on from the release of Jaws, Steven Spielberg says that he thought the shark thriller would end his career.

"I thought my career was virtually over halfway through production on Jaws because everybody was saying to me, 'You are never going to get hired again,'" Spielberg said at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles during an introduction for its new Jaws exhibition (via Variety).

Production on the movie was blighted by issues, from a temperamental animatronic shark to even more temperamental conditions filming on the Atlantic Ocean and a shoot that went 100 days over schedule.

Spielberg was only 26 during filming, but the film went on to become the highest-grossing movie of all time (until Star Wars: A New Hope bested it two years later).

"The camaraderie that happens when you’re just trying to survive something, it brought all of us closer together," Spielberg added. "I’ve never been closer to a crew or a cast until many years later, but this was the ultimate example that when you work as a team, you can actually get the ball across the finish line. I’m very proud of the movie. The film certainly cost me a pound of flesh, but gave me a ton of career."

Jaws stars Roy Scheider as Martin Brody, the police chief of Amity Island, a New England beach resort rocked by a series of aquatic murders. Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw play the scientist and shark hunter who help him take down their water-bound foe.

Session 9 director Brad Anderson is working on a new psychological thriller titled Moral Capacity, Variety reports.

The cast of the upcoming movie will be led by Stranger Things star Dacre Montgomery, who played Billy Hargrove, the step-brother of Sadie Sink's Max, in the Netflix series. He'll be joined by Rebel Moon's Sofia Boutella, Man of Steel's Diane Lane, and Silo's Tim Robbins.

Per the official synopsis, Moral Capacity "follows James Fisher, a man who has everything to lose – family, reputation, and the perfect life he’s built – until his affair with his business partner Andrea is discovered by her husband Cliff. James finds himself caught in a deadly ultimatum: commit murder or watch his world fall apart. As Cliff pulls the strings in this destructive game of blackmail and manipulation, James turns to his therapist, Dr. Torre, unaware that she harbors even deeper secrets."

Montgomery will play James and Boutella has been cast as Andrea, while Lane and Robbins are Dr. Torre and Cliff, respectively.

As for Anderson, he also directed the cult hit Session 9, which was released back in 2001. The psychological horror movie follows an asbestos abatement crew as they take on a job at an asylum that begins to take its toll on the team. The movie wasn't a financial success when it was first released, but has achieved cult status in the two decades since.

Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for The Rip, and it's an intense teaser for a crime thriller starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.

In the trailer, which you can watch above, two police officers played by Damon and Affleck find a $20 million haul in a house occupied by The Flash star Sasha Calle's character.

"It would be so much easier if we just stole this money," jokes Damon's character. Then, Affleck answers a call from a distorted voice warning everyone inside the house to leave so nobody has to die.

From there, the trailer just gets tenser and tenser, as nobody knows who to trust – and even Damon and Affleck look as if they're getting split apart by the cash.

The movie has previously been teased behind closed doors and at Netflix's 2025 Tudum event, but this is the first time a trailer has been released to the public.

Alongside Damon, Affleck, and Calle, The Rip stars Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott Adkins, and Kyle Chandler. Joe Carnahan directs.

The official logline for the thriller reads: "Upon discovering millions in cash in a derelict stash house, trust among a team of Miami cops begins to fray. As outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything is called into question – including who they can rely on."

Director Nadia Latif says adapting The Man in My Basement for the big screen came with its challenges, but working with author Walter Mosley made the process smooth overall.

"I think the biggest challenges with adapting the book were balancing the kind of stranger elements with the character-driven story," Latif tells GamesRadar+. "I like to think of the film as being half a character study and half a political polemic, and also a kind of thriller with horror elements, and sort of balancing that tonally, I think, is quite a difficult thing. And it's quite a big departure from the book, which in many ways is, a bit lighter. But also definitely finding the comedy in it."

The film, which marks Latif's first feature-length project, serves as an adaptation of Mosley's 2004 novel. Corey Hawkins stars as Charles Blakey, a struggling Sag Harbor resident who can't seem to catch a break. As the bank is about to foreclose on his house, a mysterious businessman by the name of Anniston Bennet (Willem Dafoe) contacts Charles out of the blue with the intention of renting out his basement. Naturally, Charles isn't exactly stoked on the idea of a strange white man living in his basement – but the money makes him say yes. After Anniston moves in, however, things take a turn for the worst – and the result is a genre-bending tale of trauma, race relations, and white guilt. Anna Diop, Tamara Lawrance, and Jonathan Ajayi also star.

Latif co-wrote the screenplay with Mosley, who she said reminded her that it was more than okay for the movie to be different from the book, and become its own thing entirely. Mosley is perhaps best known for writing Devil in a Blue Dress, which became a film in 1995 that starred Denzel Washington and Jennifer Beals.

"Actually fascinating watching it yesterday, I was like, 'They're laughing! It's funny!' Because the situation is so ridiculous in many ways. I think that was the toughest bit. But Walter made it very easy for me, it must be said. Because he was really, like, take what you need, leave everything else behind. If you wanna read the book, they can read the book. This is the film.

Guillermo del Toro is already plotting his next opportunity to work with Frankenstein star Oscar Isaac – and it's a murderous thriller titled Fury.

"I’m writing a project to do with Oscar," del Toro said during an appearance at Toronto International Film Festival (via Deadline). "I’m writing it right now, and it’s called Fury, and essentially it’s going back to [the] sort of thriller aspects of Nightmare Alley – very cruel, very violent. Like My Dinner with Andre but [with] killing people after each course."

Nightmare Alley is del Toro's 2021 psychological thriller, which starred Bradley Cooper as a charismatic swindler who gets a job at a carnival, and is based on the '40s noir novel of the same name by William Lindsay Gresham.

"I’m very interested in the violence we do to each other, and we do it with our minds, we do it with our souls and we do it physically," the filmmaker continued. "And I think it’s new questions [I’m having]; I’m 60 now, so I’ve gone from asking where I’m going and [being a] father and son to [experiencing] regret. I’m in the regret decade, so expect a lot of regret."

Del Toro's next movie is his upcoming adaptation of Frankenstein. The movie stars Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as the Creature, and the cast also includes Mia Goth, Lars Mikkelsen, Christoph Waltz, Charles Dance, and Ralph Ineson.

After 45 years in the acting game, Willem Dafoe says he's looking for something of an otherworldly experience when taking on new roles. In The Man in My Basement, he plays a seemingly harmless man who slowly edges into one who is capable of psychological torture.

"I'm looking to have an adventure. I'm looking to be disturbed. I'm looking to tap into a sense of wonder," Dafoes tells GamesRadar+. "Something that takes me away from my conditioned thinking or learning something. You know, you learn something and then you become a new person. You know, life is reenergized."

The actor plays Anniston Bennet, a mysterious businessman who contacts a lonely, struggling Sag Harbor resident named Charles Blakey (Corey Hawkins) with the intent of renting out his basement. Charles isn't too keen on the idea of a strange white man living in his basement...but he really needs the money. After he accepts the offer, Anniston moves in, and things take a turn for the strange and sinister. Based on the novel of the same name, Nadia Latif directs from a screenplay she co-wrote with author Walter Mosley.

"I was very aware of Walter Mosley. I had not read the book. I did not know that particular book. I knew his writing. So my ears perked up when I heard his name," Dafoe continues. "And then I just got to know Nadia, and I liked how she talked about the project, what her connection with the project was. And then she gave me lots of things to look at – films and pictures and music and books that would kind of put me in the head of some of the things that the film addresses itself to, as far as thematically some of the dynamics of what we're talking about in the film."

Beyond being a horror thriller, the film deals with themes of trauma, mental illness, family history, race, colonialism, and white guilt. Charles and Anniston develop a push-pull power dynamic that creates a creeping tension, like a dam waiting to burst.

"It required a certain amount of research just because [Anniston's] life is so different than mine," Dafoe continues. "So I had to have some kind of understanding of where that life could have come from."

If you've made the excellent decision to rewatch Jaws anytime lately, you'll probably agree that it's hard to believe it's half-a-century old. But, five decades later, the iconic thriller is back on the big screen to celebrate the anniversary milestone.

Directed by Steven Spielberg and based on the novel of the same name by Peter Benchley, Jaws first hit theaters in June 1975 (this was Spielberg's third feature and he made it when he was around the age that I am now, which, of course, did not prompt any amount of personal existentialism when I worked this out).

The late Roy Scheider stars as Martin Brody, the police chief of Amity Island, a coastal town in New England. When the seaside community is rocked by a murder in the ocean, Brody is keen to close the beaches to prevent any further harm, but the money-minded mayor (Murray Hamilton) doesn't want to lose out on tourist dollars in the peak summer season. Predictably, more lives are lost, and an anti-shark frenzy grips the town… which means it's up to Brody to save the day, with help of eccentric shark hunter Quint (Robert Shaw) and oceanographer Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss).

Blockbuster blueprint

All in all, the movie made almost $500 million worldwide when it was first released, against a budget of just $9 million. For a short time, it was the highest-grossing movie ever, before Star Wars: A New Hope took the crown in 1977. In short, Jaws was the original summer blockbuster.

This was partly down to the movie's unprecedented advertising campaign, which included spending record amounts of money on TV advertising, a long press circuit, and the release of movie merchandise – still a relatively new concept in the '70s.

But it wasn't all down to marketing. Jaws' continuing success (the most recent re-release has already made over $10 million at the box office in the US alone) can mostly be credited to something much simpler: good ol' movie magic.

"Get out of the water!"

Spielberg didn't need a big budget to create one of the most suspenseful movies of all time. In fact, a lot of the movie's fear factor was a product of its limitations: the reason the shark has so little screen time was due to malfunctioning models that were meant to represent the deadly sea creature. And it's a much scarier movie for it – what's more frightening than something we can't see or, therefore, know? Of course, John Williams' iconic score also plays a huge part in setting the mood, with the film's theme becoming one of the most recognizable pieces of music of all time.

And then there's the dolly zoom. The camera technique (which involves the lens zooming in on its subject while the camera itself moves backwards, away from them) may have been used for the first time almost 20 years earlier in Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo, but Jaws may well feature the most famous dolly zoom of all time (although the one shot through a "webcam" in Amazon's new War of the Worlds might end up being a close second, for very different reasons). Spielberg wields this dolly zoom to hone in on Brody's face, emphasizing his shock when he realizes the shark has made its way to the busy Amity beach, and the dread when he realizes he was right all along.

Above all, Jaws is a cautionary tale about two things: mass hysteria, and a disregard for the needs of the people by those in power, both of which are universal themes that become increasingly relevant in any time of widespread crisis (Mayor Vaughn's call to keep the beaches open came back into public discourse and was frequently memed during the pandemic, for example, when some believed lockdown restrictions were lifted too soon).

It's not a didactic movie, however, and not one that overtly feels like it has a capital-M message. As with all good movies, you come for one thing and leave with something much deeper and more interesting – and it's always better to see that on the big screen.

The upcoming The Hand That Rocks the Cradle remake has a creepy first look, courtesy of PEOPLE.

The new movie, starring Longlegs' Maika Monroe and 10 Cloverfield Lane's Mary Elizabeth Winstead, is a new take on the 1992 thriller. Monroe plays Polly, a nanny hired by a suburban couple, Caitlin and Miguel (Winstead and Raúl Castillo), to look after their new baby.

However, Polly's intentions are not what they seem, and Caitlin soon realizes that her sweet demeanor is about to give way to something much darker. In the first look images, Polly watches over the baby's crib and has a conversation with a tearful Caitlin.

"The studio gave me all the chances to recreate the whole thing and build a new story, new characters, with its own heart. I think that was the best way to honor the original, not try to redo it," director Michelle Garza Cervera told the publication. "We build a whole different kind of thriller. It's actually more of a slow burn."

The original movie starred Rebecca De Mornay and Annabella Sciorra as Peyton and Claire, who are now Polly and Caitlin in the remake. The film was directed by LA Confidential helmer Curtis Hanson and written by Amanda Silver, who went on to co-write blockbusters like Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Avatar: The Way of Water.

Emma Thompson stumbles across a kidnapping, and risks her life trying to save the hostage, in the tense first trailer for upcoming thriller Dead of Winter. Think Fargo and True Detective meets Taken, and you're pretty much there – and man, it's exciting to see the Sense and Sensibility actor in this new kind of role.

Directed by Brian Kirk, whose previous credits include Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, and The Day of the Jackal, the movie follows Barb, a store owner who ventures into the Minnesota wilderness to scatter her late husband's ashes. When a blizzard causes her to hang tight on the mountains, she randomly witnesses a frantic, young woman getting chased by a gun-wielding man.

With no one answering her pleas for help through the car radio, Barb takes it upon herself to find the girl, thrusting her into a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse out there on the snowy peaks. Lloyd Hutchinson, Gaia Wise, Marc Menchaca, Laurel Marsden, Brían F. O'Byrne, and Judy Greer round out the supporting cast.

"I'm not leaving ya," Barb reassures the young woman in the teaser, with the latter asking in another scene: "What are we gonna do?"

It certainly looks like a far cry from the types of flicks Thompson, who played Professor Sybill Trelawney in the Harry Potter movies, has starred in in recent years, which have all skewed light. In fact, the Oscar winner hasn't starred in a title that isn't considered a comedy (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande had numerous funny moments!) since 2017's The Children Act. She hasn't been in a thriller since the late '90s.

Having premiered at the Locarno Film Festival on August 8, the film has earned a bunch of positive reviews, with The Guardian awarding it five stars and Variety claiming "Thompson warms the frozen heart" of the saturated genre.
