The Payday games are coming to the big (and/or small) screen: Starbreeze Entertainment has partnered with VICE Studios with the aim of creating "film and TV adaptations" of the video game franchise.

According to a press release issued by Starbreeze, the two companies will "collaborate closely to ensure that future adaptations capture PAYDAY’s tone, characters, and high-stakes heist energy, while inviting new audiences into the franchise."

"Our goal is to grow Payday from a game into a full entertainment platform, owning the heisting genre," said Starbreeze CEO Adolf Kristjansson. "Payday is the cornerstone franchise for Starbreeze, and we’re highly selective about partners who can expand its universe beyond games. VICE Studios is the perfect partner for this project, combining creative ambition with the production capability to develop premium adaptations that feel authentic to Payday."

"Payday has a world that is bigger than the game itself," VICE Studios president Amy Powell added. "There’s mythology behind the masks and a crew of characters with real history that is incredibly exciting to explore. Partnering with Starbreeze Entertainment, we’re excited to build that universe and see how far it can go on screen."

Payday: The Heist was released back in 2011, and two sequels followed in 2013 and 2023. The first-person shooter franchise follows a group of thieves and involves carrying out a series of heists, including robbing banks, shops, and armored transport.

As for VICE, the company has been involved in the production of recent titles like crime actioner Gangs of London and the upcoming Saorise Ronan-led comedy-drama Bad Apples.

Tim Roth is British acting royalty. A Quentin Tarantino regular, he's appeared in movies and shows for the legendary likes of David Lynch, Mike Leigh and Alan Clarke. Which is why his less-celebrated turns as Emil Blonsky/The Abomination in the MCU and as chief villain Thade in Tim Burton's maligned Planet of the Apes remake may seem like outliers on his CV. Turns out theres' a good reason for that.

"That I did originally to make my kids embarrassed at school," Roth tells GamesRadar+, referring to 2008 MCU black sheep The Incredible Hulk. "I did a couple of movies like that. I did Planet of the Apes for that [reason] as well, just to literally to embarrass him at school."

Planet of the Apes may have been a one-and-done for Roth (despite that baffling ending), but the actor did reprise Blonsky in the MCU for 2022's She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Given the 14-year gap between appearances, Roth was as surprised as anyone to get the call from Marvel Studios.

"They just called me up and said: 'How'd you fancy…?' And I was like, 'What?!' And it was just so daft. But I liked Tatiana [Maslany]. She was fascinating to watch on set. She had so much on her plate and she was so in control of it. But she's also incredibly funny, and she's married to a guy [Brendan Hines] who was in a series that I did called Lie to Me years ago, so we had like a reunion when we were up there making it. And Mark Ruffalo is hilarious!"

Would Roth return for Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars? "Yeah, just go. Be fun," he says with a smile. For now, he appears as a villain of another kind in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. The feature-length follow-up to the beloved show, it puts Cillian Murphy's Tommy Shelby on a collision course with Roth's Beckett, a fascist spearheading a Nazi plot to sabotage the British economy during WW2 by pushing millions in forged banknotes on the country.

Initially envisioned as a toff, Roth brought Beckett down to Earth – a dark mirror version of Shelby's own working-class anti-hero. "It was originally written quite aristocratic, but he wouldn't be able to communicate with these guys at all," Roth explains. "It would defeat the object. And so I said, 'What about if he's like a geography teacher? You can chat with him and he's very nice. He's very reasonable. He's just trying to help.'" He feels that the mission that he is on is for the best of the country and, you know, the planet. It'll save lives. Sounds a bit familiar, doesn't it?"

Also in conversation with GameRadar+, Cillian Murphy explained how The Immortal Man is the "natural conclusion" of Tommy Shelby's decades-spanning story, while franchise newbie Rebecca Ferguson says the new movie works as a "standalone film." Director Tom Harper also explains how The Immortal Man differs from the six-season show.

It looks like Insidious and The Conjuring creator James Wan is taking a break from the horror genre as the director is set to remake a hit Korean action movie.

Wan will direct a new English-language take on The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil for Paramount under his Blumhouse-owned production company Atomic Monster, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller will also be producing the film through Balboa Productions.

No plot details of the remake have been released, but the 2019 Korean-language movie follows a crime boss who forms an unlikely partnership with a detective in order to take down a serial killer who attacked him. The film stars Train to Busan's Don Lee (Ma Dong-seok) as the gangster, Kim Mu-yeol as the officer, and Kim Sung-kyu as the serial killer. The movie stands at a near perfect 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Paramount picked up the rights to the movie back in June 2022, with A Knight’s Tale's Brian Helgeland writing the first draft. The screenplay is written by Shay Hatten, best known for multiple John Wick movies and Netflix's Rebel Moon franchise.

The new movie will mark Wan's first time back in the director's chair since the 2023 sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

However, Wan will certainly have his hands full as the horror head has also made it clear that he wants to direct the next Saw movie. The franchise recently fell back into his hands after Blumhouse acquired half the rights to Saw in 2025. He and Leigh Whannell created the torture franchise in 2004.

If variety is the spice of life, it's now fairly well-established that Hollywood's store cupboards have been in need of a restock for the last decade or so. There are still plenty of interesting independent films being made, of course, but the bulk of the multiplex's offerings are franchise blockbusters, and there's been a distinct lack of mid-budget movies to fill in the gaps in the 2010s and into the 2020s.

Mid-budget movies are a high risk, high reward situation and, as such, many studios have opted out of the risk entirely. Still, a few are still being produced – and Glen Powell is often in them.

After making a name for himself in Top Gun: Maverick, Powell has used his star power to lead a range of mid-budget films: crime caper Hit Man, rom-com Anyone But You and, now, How to Make a Killing (which cost $15 million to produce).

A family affair

A loose remake of 1949 British comedy Kind Hearts and Coronets, Powell plays Becket Redfellow, whose mother was disowned by her uber-wealthy family for refusing to terminate her teenage, out-of-wedlock pregnancy. Although he grew up estranged from the Redfellows, Becket is still in the line of inheritance for the family fortune and, after being demoted at his retail job and running into affluent childhood crush Julia, decides to finally claim what he believes is rightfully his. All he has to do is take out the five family members standing in his way…

The Redfellows are a Knives Out-esque cast of eccentric, insufferable wealthy people – including an obnoxious Wall Street party boy, an even more obnoxious semi-famous artist, and a celebrity pastor – and they prove to be extremely easy to kill. But maybe not that easy, because we know right from the off that Becket, eventually, gets caught: the film is structured around his account to a priest who visits him in his death row jail cell. But what we don't know is how, or when, or why, which adds some necessary intrigue to the snappy 105-minute runtime.

For me, though, Margaret Qualley is the film's standout as cartoonishly amusing femme fatale Julia, who drops in with increasingly shorter skirts and threatening demands for Becket every 20 minutes or so. The character is a fun nod to the story's mid-century roots, when femme fatales were all the rage, and, I thought, a sign that we need more character roles for younger actors.

Character study

Powell is at his best in these mid-budget movies, too – he's much more convincing and charming doing character work than he is driving action sequences in, say, Edgar Wright's The Running Man. He found fame under the guidance of Maverick co-star Tom Cruise, and Cruise got his start on a similar trajectory. These films are how you make a name for yourself: big-budget blockbusters don't come around often enough to cement your name in public consciousness, and indie fare often doesn't break through beyond the already-committed theater-going crowd. If you stick to mid-budget movies, though, you remain a consistent presence on the multiplex screen – like Powell.

As he did in Richard Linklater's Hit Man, Powell plays the "everyman thrown out of his depth" role with charm and ease. The thing about mid-budget movies is that they're usually about ordinary people in extraordinary situations – but nothing completely out of the realm of possibility, thanks to the limitations posed by production funds. Rom-coms, straightforward comedies, and a good old-fashioned caper like How to Make a Killing often prove to be better vehicles for actors, who aren't going toe-to-toe with CGI aliens or distracting action sequences. More so than in The Running Man, How to Make a Killing gives Powell space to grapple with interpersonal relationships and his own morality thanks to a simpler plot that doesn't require any worldbuilding or super high stakes.

Mid-budget movies may be high risk, high reward (and How to Make a Killing isn't exactly, uh, making a killing at the box office yet), but if Powell follows in his mentor Cruise's footsteps, he could be the answer to waning ticket sales for medium-sized movie releases. I'm keen to see what he does in his next project, a JJ Abrams sci-fi blockbuster, but I hope he still finds time for a few more capers, too.

Peaky Blinders' big screen debut has so far proved successful, as new movie Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man has landed a rather impressive Rotten Tomatoes score.

The film sits at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is ironic as that is the same score that the Peaky Blinders series as a whole has, with seasons 2, 3, and 6 scoring 100%.

Critics seem largely impressed with the film, with many praising Cillian Murphy's return to the role of Brummie gangster Tommy Shelby. "Cillian Murphy's TV icon Tommy Shelby commands the big screen just as well," said Tori Brazier from Metro, and M.N. Miller from Fandomwire echoed, "Murphy's creation of Tommy is haunting, centered, and controlled. His turn is post-war trauma distilled into a performance of pure criminal introspection."

The good news for longtime franchise fans is that a lot of critics say the movie holds up the series, to which it acts as a sequel. "The Immortal Man captures what made the original series so watchable," said Consequence writer Liz Shannon Miller, and Nikki Baughan from Screen Daily said, "Propulsive and entertaining, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man has plenty to keep fans happy and a wider audience engaged."

Not everyone is a fan, though, as Chris Bennion from the Daily Telegraph said the movie has "verve and swagger and real love for the time and the place. But this is Tommy Shelby and the Peaky Blinders playing their greatest hits on what feels a little like a farewell tour. Those peaks just aren't as razor-sharp as they used to be."

Set in the midst of World War 2, The Immortal Man sees Tommy Shelby return to a bombed-out Birmingham years after he was exiled. But, as the gangster becomes involved in secret wartime missions, he must face old threats from his past. The movie is directed by Tom Harper and written by series creator Steven Knight. The Immortal Man sees Rebecca Ferguson and Barry Keoghan join the Peaky Blinders clan.

The movie acts as a conclusion to Shelby's story years after the main series came to an end with its sixth season. In an interview with GamesRadar+, Murphy said he sees the movie as a "present to the fans" and a "return on their investment," but confirms the feature will provide a "natural conclusion" for Tommy Shelby.

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is set to bring the era of Tommy Shelby to an explosive end. Alongside many returning favorites, the Netflix movie also introduces some new figures to the world, including Rebecca Ferguson's mysterious Queen of the Palmer Witches, Kaulo Chirklo. But if you haven't seen the show, don't worry, as Ferguson says being up to speed with the (mis)adventures of Shelby and co. isn't a prerequisite.

Speaking to GamesRadar+ alongside co-star Cillian Murphy in London, Ferguson notes that while she may have been familiar with Peaky Blinders, she was still several seasons behind the rest of the world when she got the call from Murphy, asking her to play Chirklo.

"I'm not going to lie [to you, Cillian]: I watched the first two seasons, but it's a commitment!" Ferguson says with a chuckle. "I'm quite happy to be honest that I didn't. A lot of people say, 'How do you feel about the fact that there's such a big fan base?' That freaks me out."

As well as Kaulo Chirklo, who can seemingly commune with the dead, Ferguson also plays her twin sister, Zelda, in the movie. We learn that Zelda, who has been dead for many years, is the mother of Duke Shelby (Barry Keoghan), Tommy's illegitimate son, who is now running the Peaky Blinders in Tommy's absence. For Ferguson, the call to join the world of Peaky Blinders came out of the blue, and from Murphy himself who is also a hands-on producer on the movie.

"What I loved was when Cillian contacted me and asked me to do it," Ferguson continues. "I told the people around me who I know are big fans, like my assistant, her dog is called Shelby. The joy is seeing other people's reactions. So I know that I'm a part of something, but also I got to see it not having watched the whole show, and I think it's a really good standalone film. I enjoy the film on its own."

Elsewhere in our chat, Cillian Murphy described Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man as a "natural conclusion" for his iconic Brummie gangster. "I think Steven [Knight, creator] and the universe of Peaky Blinders can continue, you know, and I'm sure it will. But it's been a quarter of my life playing this character, and that's an awfully long time by anyone's standards."

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is now playing in theaters, and star Cillian Murphy says that the long-gestating movie was designed to close the book on his time as Tommy Shelby.

Speaking to GamesRadar+ at a press event in London, the Oppenheimer Oscar winner shared his thoughts on his final outing as anti-hero Tommy Shelby, 13 years after first donning the famous flat cap. "We'd been talking about making a film for a long time," Murphy begins. "And then we were going to do series 7, and then the pandemic happened, and that put the kibosh on that. And then the film came into focus."

The challenge from the start, Murphy says, was always "to see if we could make something that would justify its existence and that would be the satisfying conclusion, and a satisfying final chapter on the whole TV show, and to try and make it in two hours as opposed to six."

Set in 1940, The Immortal Man picks up seven years after the events of season 6, and finds Tommy Shelby in self-imposed exile following a series of devastating losses. Back in Birmingham, the Peaky Blinders are now being led by Tommy's son, Duke (Barry Keoghan), who gets mixed up in a Nazi plot to flood the British economy with millions in forged currency.

It's a more introspective and reflective story for Shelby, who has outsmarted and outgunned the competition at every turn across the long-running show, which started life on the BBC, but has found a whole new global audience on Netflix. When asked whether he sees The Immortal Man as a closing of the book on his time as Tommy Shelby, Murphy responds in the affirmative.

"For me, for sure. I think Steven [Knight, creator] and the universe of Peaky Blinders can continue, you know, and I'm sure it will. But it's been a quarter of my life playing this character, and that's an awfully long time by anyone's standards. But a deeply satisfying one. I felt we managed to achieve something with the TV show and that each season became richer and deeper, and we never plateaued, which I think is a trick to pull off. And therefore, above all, I wanted it to be a present to the fans, like a return on their investment."

A two-season continuation has already been announced, which will pick up the story with the next generation of Peaky Blinders in 1953, but it seems unlikely that Murphy will be involved in front of the camera, given his comments. Creator Steven Knight, meanwhile, is typically busy – as well as the ongoing writer of Peaky Blinders, he's also currently writing the next Bond movie for Amazon MGM and director Denis Villeneuve.

"Steve Knight's one of the greatest writers in the world," adds Murphy, "And I have just been so lucky to have worked with him for such a long time and to have worked on a character like this for such a long time, and of course, you want to take it to its natural conclusion."

Critics, put down the pitchforks pens! The first reviews for Maggie Gyllenhaal's monster movie The Bride are in – and well, they're seriously mixed.

The new horror-romance is being called everything from "a modern classic" to an "unholy mess", earning it a 60% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a ton of comparisons to DC's Joker 2 in the days leading up to its release. Initially, it debuted to 54%, though, so we'll take the slight upswing into certified "fresh" territory...

Starring Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley, The Bride sees the latter take on a dual role: the titular anti-hero and Mary Shelley, who insists she has more story to tell following her influential 1818 novel Frankenstein – despite her having died from a brain tumor over 80 years prior. With that, the author catches us up to Frankenstein's monster, who now calls himself 'Frank', as he seeks out Annette Bening's "mad scientist" Dr. Euphronious and insists she create him a companion. Sparks fly after, well, the sparks fly, sending Frank and his punky paramour on a wild, violent road trip through '30s Chicago to upstate New York.

Culture Mix's Carla Hay predicted the torn reactions in her positive write-up, stating: "The Bride! is an unconventional, stylish, and boldly feminist re-imagining of 1935's Bride of Frankenstein that will either irk or intrigue viewers. Jessie Buckley gives a sensational performance that exemplifies the film's messy magnificence."

ComicBook.com's Spencer Perry had similar praise for its lead, writing: "Buckley has to walk the line of being a woman who is at war with the world around her, but also her own mind. She’s captivating in nearly every scene and endlessly entertaining."

Nerdspin's Michael Sowell gave it an A+ ranking, arguing: "Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride! is a neon-soaked, punk-rock lightning bolt that transforms a gothic icon into a symbol of fierce, anarchic liberation. The Bride has arrived, and she’s reclaiming every stitch of her own story.

Others weren't so impressed, though, with IGN Movies' Hanna Flint claiming that it "too often veers into the ridiculous and obvious" and Flickering Myth's Robert Kojder describing it as a "Frankensteinian misfire".

"An overwrought, heavy-handed and tonally uneven slice of gothic horror with great production design and stylish cinematography," says NYC Movie Guru's Avi Offer. "Does Jessie Buckley want some cheese to go with all of that ham?"

Sold as a Bonnie and Clyde-esque take on a Universal Monsters movie, it stands to reason that new horror-romance The Bride is... pretty violent. Its '30s setting makes way for gun-toting gangsters while Christian Bale's "Frank" and his newly resurrected lover have intolerant punks and the police to worry about.

Given all that and the fact it's a big-budget flick, writer-director Maggie Gyllenhaal says they "tested and tested it" with audiences before finalizing the finished product – and that some scenes were "pulled back" after some viewers dubbed them too nasty.

"So fascinating, and one of the things that they brought up was the violence: Is it too violent?" Gyllenhaal explained on The New York Times' The Interview podcast. "And I was talking about it with a girlfriend of mine, who said – and she wasn't being reductive – 'I wonder if you had been a man making this movie, if you would have had the same response.'

"There's the Stormtrooper version of killing people, where they have white masks on and you don't know who they are. Then there's the version where every single death has a consequence and a cost – every single one."

She went on to say that she was particularly "taken to task" for the film's sexual violence, recalling how a couple of female guests came up to her after the early test screenings to tell her they "don't want to see a woman being violated."

Gyllenhaal added: "I also don't want to see that. And yet that is a major reality in the culture that we're living in — just in the time I was cutting this movie, how much wildly disturbing brutality against women there has been in the world. So if we're going to see it, we need to see it in a way that is very hard to watch, because it is very awful. If you know anything about me, if you looked at any of my work, even starting with Secretary when I was 22, this is something that I've spent a lot of time thinking about. I am sure that I have been thoughtful about this particular subject, and yet it will be hard to watch. I think we can take it."

Elsewhere in the chat, Gyllenhaal revealed the wild note Warner Bros. gave her after showing it to audiences... which involved a more... intimate moment between Frank and Ida/Penny (Jessie Buckley).

"I loved working with Pam Abdy, who runs Warner Bros. with Mike De Luca," she gushed. "There would be times where she would be like: 'Maggie, you cannot have Frankenstein lick black vomit off the Bride's neck. It's just too much. You can't do it.' But she understood why I wanted it."

Penélope Cruz says playing an aspiring detective in new monster movie The Bride helped her "express a lot of rage" – and that she was so desperate for the role, she called writer-director Maggie Gyllenhaal from the sidelines of her son's football game.

"I remember when I read it, because then I had to go quickly with my son to a football training, and I called from the football training," Cruz recalls to GamesRadar+. "I will always remember it, because I said, 'You've written an incredible script, and I hope you know that.' I felt very grateful that she was offering me that character. I loved Myrna and it was a pleasure to play her."

Secretary Myrna, whose gift for sniffing out clues is a huge asset to her bumbling badge-wearing bestie Jake Wiles (Peter Sarsgaard), doesn't actually show up until halfway through the movie – as the pair try to catch up with Frank (Christian Bale) and his lover (Jessie Buckley) after they're spotted assaulting two men outside a nightclub.

Their investigation sets them on a collision course with the outlandish outlaws, who've taken it upon themselves to do an unofficial tour of Ronnie Reed's films. Reed, the fictional actor, is played by director Maggie Gyllenhaal's brother Jake. If they hit up certain cinemas along the map, they'll find the dangerous darlings, reckons Myrna.

As she and Wiles get closer to Frank and "Penny", though, she learns how the latter came to be – and why she's on a crusade of justice-dispensing and truth-telling of her own.

"Through a character like that, you can release so many things, because it represents all the things that you have not been able to say as a woman," adds Cruz. "When I started working, I was very young, and I've seen a lot of situations that were – maybe not as extreme as the ones that the Bride or Myrna saw in the 30s – but… Still today, there are so many things that I can see in many professions, not only in ours.

"We still have so much to do to get to a place where even, like, the fact that it's a director that is a woman, and it's a very big budget, and it still makes the news. To get to a place where that is normalized. I felt I could say and express a lot of that kind of… almost, like, rage about all the things that we all have experienced and continue to experience."

Heat 2 is set to see Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale share the screen for the first time in their careers. Though they've come close to appearing in a couple of the same films before, the former Batman actor has revealed.

Bale recently confirmed his involvement in the follow-up to Fox 32 News while promoting his upcoming horror-romance The Bride. When GamesRadar+ asked him how excited he was to team up with the One Battle After Another star, he noted that the pair "did readings for stuff in the past", but it's just "never ended up" working out.

"So, yeah, that should be, should be something great," he continues.

Based on Michael Mann's 2022 novel of the same name, which acts as both a sequel and a prequel to his 1995 crime thriller, Heat 2 will presumably chart criminal Chris Shiherlis's (Val Kilmer's character in the original film) travels from LA to Southeast Asia, where he gets caught up with an international drug cartel. Other subplots in the book involve detective Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino's character) trying to track down a serial killer in 1988 Chicago – a case that almost brought him face-to-face with big-time bank robber Neil McCauley (Robert DeNiro's character) 7 years prior to the events of Heat.

As it stands, it's unclear who Bale (or DiCaprio) will be playing. Star Wars' Adam Driver, Elvis's Austin Butler, and Bradley Cooper have also been linked to the hotly anticipated flick. Filming is rumored to be kicking off in August.

Prior to that, Bale will be seen as Frankenstein's monster (AKA 'Frank') opposite Jessie Buckley's titular character in Maggie Gyllenhaal's punk-rock take on The Bride of Frankenstein. In the movie, Frank's obsessed with Ronnie Reed, a Fred Astaire-type played by Jake Gyllenhaal – and describes him as his only friend, which culminates in an awkward encounter in the film's final act.

Does Bale feel daunted at going toe-to-toe with Hollywood legend DiCaprio? "I always think it's better never to meet the people that you see on the screen, because, you know, they're human, right? They can't possibly live up to what you've imagined them to be," Bale smiles. "I'm very grateful when people talk to me, but I'm also chronically aware that I must be such a ridiculous disappointment.

"I never wanted to meet anybody. You know, even now, when I'm able to meet people, I go, 'No, no, it's what they do that I find engrossing. It's not them; I don't want to put that pressure on them. They're people who've lived lives... tough, complicated, etc. You know, that's none of my business. What my business is is what they choose to show the world through their art."

New horror-romance The Bride! breathes new life into Frankenstein's monster and his unwitting paramour as Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley's lead characters wreak havoc across a '30s Chicago.

While the latter really only had Elsa Lanchester's version from the 1935 classic to stand-up to (Jennifer Beals and Helena Bonham Carter's takes never really made much of an impact), Bale had the unenviable task of following up the likes of Christopher Lee, Boris Karloff, and the now Oscar-nominated Jacob Elordi.

In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, the former Batman actor said it was "difficult" to pin down who his Creature was due to all those that came before. Ultimately, though, he "cherry-picked" his by highlighting what he wasn't too keen on from earlier iterations.

"Obviously Boris Karloff's monster is the iconic image but Mary Shelley set the tone with a very different description," Bale explains. "I decided it was going to be a real man – man, not monster. A man who had been treated abysmally; emotional, physical experimentation and abuse. Mary Shelley writes a book based on the science of Galvani coming in with the electric probes on the frogs, you know? And she gets some of it right but she gets a little bit wrong, right?

"Then Karloff and James Whale, they hear a bit more, and they go, 'Oh, he's apparently got a flat head.' That's wrong. It's just that his hairstyle at that time was a bit flat," he added. "But they do get it right that he had a scar across his forehead. He's eight-foot tall? Wrong! No, he was a man. No man is eight-foot tall, but when you're terrified, people seem bigger. So I sort of cherry-picked and found my way through to the real Frank."

Written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, The Bride! sees Buckley's Mary Shelley insist she has more story to tell following the success of her influential 1818 novel Frankenstein – despite her having died from a debilitating brain tumor over 80 years prior. With that, she catches us up to Frankenstein's monster, who now calls himself 'Frank', as he seeks out Annette Bening's "mad scientist" Dr. Euphronious and insists she create him a companion.

When a local escort with ties to a notorious mobster is murdered, the pair dig up the body and resurrect her, setting Frank on, as Bale puts it, the "crazy, exciting, destined-to-be-shortlived rollercoaster ride of her life". Peter Sarsgaard and Penelope Cruz round out the supporting cast.

Planning on rocking up to the theater to watch Psycho Killer this weekend? Might be a better idea to run, run, run, run, run, run, run away, if the horror movie's first reviews are anything to go by...

Directed by Gavin Polone and written by Andrew Kevin Walker (Seven, Sleepy Hollow), the film follows Georgina Campbell's Jane, a highway patrol officer who takes it upon herself to hunt down the man who brutally murdered her husband. Turns out, it wasn't just a one-off attack, though, and Jane soon finds herself in a dangerous cat-and-mouse chase with the notorious 'Satanic Slasher' (James Preston Rogers). Think Longlegs meets The Brave One.

"Psycho Killer is a dull, uninspired mess," wrote Epic Film Guys on Twitter. "Weak performances, generic characters all accompanied by a chopped up plot with neutered death scenes, leave you feeling beyond unfulfilled. When Malcolm McDowell is your marquee name, you know there’s a problem."

"INCONCEIVABLY AWFUL," added Midnight Movie Talk's Erick Weber. "One of the dumbest scripts I've ever seen made into an actual movie Audiences should sue 20th Century for biggest discrepancy between trailer and actual film

Elsewhere, AllAboutMovies called it "below average" and "slow for no reason", arguing that Campbell "was the only good part".

"It's an abysmally dull, disorganized film, littered with lazy, rudimentary & baffling creative choices. They did Georgina Campbell so dirty," said Fresh Fiction TV's Courtney Howard.

Others were less scathing, like Never Split Up podcaster Anthony Dapuzzo, who tweeted: "Psycho Killer is a simple, straightforward & admittedly generic serial killer horror flick. A bit underwhelming but the components that make it watchable enough are the stylistic approach to some sequences & the design/portrayal of the Satanic Slasher.

"It's a fine movie for a rainy night at home. Would definitely like to see James Preston Rogers take on more villainous slasher roles! He was awesome!"

"Georgina Campbell was wonderful as ever in Psycho Killer. I enjoyed following the mystery and was invested," said X user Roodie. "It was fun slasher with throwback vibes of the 2000's. Some of the kills were muted while others were gory and gross as hell. Definitely worth checking out!"

In Crime 101, there are three key players that the main action orbits around: Chris Hemsworth's jewellery thief Mike, Mark Ruffalo's LAPD detective Lou, and Halle Berry's insurance broker Sharon. That is, until their worlds are upended by the arrival of Ormon, played by Barry Keoghan, which also serves to throw the whole film thrillingly off balance.

Director Bart Layton previously worked with Keoghan on 2018's American Animals, a docudrama about a book heist at a Kentucky university. Crime 101 is his first time in the director's chair since, and he wrote a role specifically for Keoghan in the movie. "We have a long relationship, and I wrote that character for him, knowing that he would do it," Layton tells GamesRadar+.

Keoghan plays Ormon, an unpredictable, dangerous young thief brought in to replace Mike when his handler fears he's gone soft. Ormon is anything but, and his actions threaten to unravel everything for Mike, Lou, and Sharon.

"We tried to keep things organic and not overthought," Layton continues. "He's such an instinctive and natural actor that I kind of try and bring him in at the last minute. We talk about the backstory of the character; we talk about who he is and where he's come from. And in this case, Barry has grown up in a pretty tough environment, and he knows kids very like the character he plays in this, who've not had much in the way of emotional support or love or adult supervision. He knows them well.

"So there are things that he brings, details that he brings, that I wouldn't have written, because he's bringing that from his experience, and I tried to create a framework for him and enough information, enough detail, for him to feel very liberated. He has this very rare combination of very dangerous, but also at the same time very vulnerable, and that's, I think, the magnetic thing."

Hemsworth shares Layton's feelings about his co-star's work. "[He] brings electricity to the set and there's nothing left in the bag, you know, it is all sort of thrown out there, and gives it absolutely everything," the actor tells us. "And it's this sort of wild, unpredictable quality, which is, like, intimidating, and it's magnetic. [He's an] incredible performer."

It's been four years since Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo last shared the screen in superhero caper Thor: Ragnarok, but the Marvel stars are back together in new thriller Crime 101 – if under very different circumstances.

Hemsworth plays career thief Mike Davis, who's baffling law enforcement with his stint of slick jewellery thefts along the 101 freeway, while Ruffalo is Lou Lubesnick, the detective who thinks he's finally cracked the case – although his colleagues don't believe him.

Although Mike and Lou are on opposite sides of the law, the pair tell GamesRadar+ that they think there's a "transference" between their characters when we sit down with them and their co-star Halle Berry to discuss the movie.

One of the reasons Mike keeps successfully evading the cops is that he never, ever hurts anyone during his heists – he gets in and gets out with as little harm done as possible. Similarly, Lou comes under fire from his colleagues for not being aggressive enough. In short, they're both non-violent men operating in violent worlds.

"I was going to say yin and yang, but they're kind of more similar than they are opposite," says Hemsworth. "They both live by a code. They both have quite strong moral values that they stick to and and whether they're sort of on that side of the law or this side of it, I believe they're good people."

"And they appreciate each other," adds Ruffalo.

"Yeah, each other's skill set, as much as one is trying to catch the other," Hemsworth agrees. "They're sort of rivals, so to speak, [but] there is a certain commonality of respect there."

Berry's character, frustrated insurance broker Sharon, is brought into their orbit when her own interests collide with Mike's. "They're all pushed to the limits," she says. "And they have to make some moral judgments."

Directed by American Animals helmer Bart Layton, Crime 101 also stars Barry Keoghan, Monica Barbaro, Corey Hawkins, and Nick Nolte, and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have reunited on screen once again this weekend with their Netflix crime thriller The Rip, and now the Oscar winners have shared some guidelines that were suggested during the film's development for the streaming service. During an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience, Damon explained that the go-to route that he and his co-star and longtime friend are used to wasn't factored in when making a Netflix movie.

“The standard way to make an action movie that we learned was, you usually have three set pieces. One in the first act, one in the second, one in the third,” explained Damon. “You spend most of your money on that one in the third act. That’s your finale. And now they’re like, ‘Can we get a big one in the first five minutes? We want people to stay. And it wouldn’t be terrible if you reiterated the plot three or four times in the dialogue because people are on their phones while they’re watching.’”

While that certainly continues to underscore the alarming direction entertainment is taking nowadays, Damon’s co-star chimed in with one of the streaming service’s recent releases, Adolescence, which went against the grain. By doing so, it didn’t just draw in viewers but also earned immense praise for its achievement.

“But then you look at Adolescence, and it didn’t do any of that shit,” Affleck argued. “And it’s fucking great. And it’s dark too. It’s tragic and intense. [It’s about] this guy who finds out his kid is accused of murder. There are long shots of the back of their heads. They get in the car, nobody says anything.”

Director Michael Mann's Heat 2 is seemingly shaping up its A-list cast with Christian Bale reportedly in talks to join the long awaited prequel/sequel alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, who is said to be joining the film in the role of Chris Shiherlis, played by the late Val Kilmer in the original film (via Deadline).

It's unclear which role Christian Bale might play in Heat 2. 1995's Heat stars Al Pacino as a cop obsessed with catching Robert DeNiro's crew of dangerous bank robbers, with the two forming a strange kind of mutual respect for each other as worthy adversaries. Val Kilmer, Tom Sizemore, and John Voight originally rounded out the cast.

Heat 2 was originally published as a 2022 novel by Heat writer/director Michael Mann and author Meg Gardiner, flashing back and forth between different periods leading up to the fateful events of the first film and after its violent conclusion. It's expected that the film will follow this same structure.

Heat 2 has been in the works since before the novel was even released, with Mann having, at different times, mentioned the return of Al Pacino, and the potential inclusion of numerous actors, some of whom, such as Austin Butler, have been rumored to actually be joining the cast.

Though Heat wasn't necessarily a smash hit on its release, it has since come to be considered one of the most influential movies of its genre, defining what modern cops-and-robbers heist movies have come to look like. Director Christopher Nolan, who worked with Christian Bale on his three Batman films, has cited Heat as a direct influence on his Dark Knight trilogy.

Despite arriving almost a decade after the previous installment, Now You See Me: Now You Don't has topped the global box office this past weekend, leaving highly anticipated releases like The Running Man behind.

With Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, and Dave Franco reprising their lead roles, the threequel has grossed $21.3 million in the US only, with $54.2 million coming from international markets like China and South Korea. That means the film has earned $75.5 million globally so far, becoming the number 1 movie right now. It still hasn't passed the $90 million that it cost to produce it, but it might during its second weekend.

With the saga's highest Rotten Tomatoes score, Now You See Me 3 sees the Four Horsemen come out of retirement ten years after their latest adventure. The occasion? A new diamond heist alongside a group of young copycat illusionists. Alongside the leading foursome, other returning cast members include Morgan Freeman, Lizzy Caplan, and Mark Ruffalo, while Rosamund Pike, Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa and Ariana Greenblatt are joining the saga for the first time.

While Now You Don't is soaring, things are not looking as positive for The Running Man – the Stephen King adaptation starring Glen Powell underperformed on its release weekend with a disappointing $29.2 million global launch, which is dangerously far from its reported $110 million budget.

Directed by Edgar Wright, the film – which has plenty of Stephen King Easter eggs – follows a televised contest where contestants must outrun a team of expert killers ruthlessly hunting them down for 30 days to win the life-changing jackpot.

In our The Running Man review, we described it as a "run-of-the-mill action flick" that "should be a pulse-pounding thrill ride but is instead a disappointingly damp squib."

Now You See Me: Now You Don't has debuted to a lukewarm Rotten Tomatoes score – but it's still the highest of the franchise.

The heist threequel currently has a score of 60% based on 57 reviews on the aggregator site. By comparison, 2013's Now You See Me has a score of 51%, while 2016's sequel scored 34%.

Set 10 years after the events of the last movie, Now You See Me: Now You Don't sees the Four Horsemen come out of retirement for a new diamond heist alongside a group of young copycat illusionists.

"The star-studded cast clearly loves making these movies together and that sense of enthusiasm goes a long way towards selling the knowingly ridiculous magic," writes AV Club, while AP calls the film a "crowd-pleasing return."

However, The Daily Beast writes that "its most impressive feat, however, is finding a way to somehow be even duller than its predecessors" and Mashable thinks the movie is "a jumble, not a puzzle."

"For a franchise built on surprise and misdirection, the spectacle of Now You See Me: Now You Don’t is all too familiar and lacking in the sheer gusto and ridiculous flair that made the original movie such a hit," reads The Globe and Mail's review, while Screen Daily writes: "Incoming director Ruben Fleischer keeps the action coming at a steady clip. But nearly 10 years after the last sequel, Now You Don’t fails to make the franchise’s limitations disappear."

The first trailer for Crime 101 is here, and it sees Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo engaged in a high-stakes cat and mouse chase.

Hemsworth plays Davis, a successful thief who operates along the 101 freeway on the west coast of the US. We see him team up with Sharon (Halle Berry), as he promises to make the high-value items her company insures "disappear" without anyone getting hurt.

"You're about to break every rule you've ever lived by. What makes this job different?" Sharon asks Davis in the trailer, which you can watch above. "There comes a moment when you realize you don't have as much time as you thought you had," he replies.

However, things seemingly get more complicated when rival thief Orman (Barry Keoghan) becomes involved – and, of course, Ruffalo's detective is hot on his heels. "As smart as that guy is, he can't help but form a pattern. I'm getting close," he says.

Per the official synopsis, "Davis is an elusive thief whose high-stakes heists have mystified police. He’s planning his biggest ever score – hoping it’ll be his last – when his path collides with Sharon, a disillusioned insurance executive whom he’s forced to work with, and Orman, a rival thief with far more disturbing methods than Davis's. As the multi-million dollar heist approaches, relentless detective Lt. Lubesnik closes in on the operation, raising the stakes even higher, and the line between hunter and hunted starts to blur. Each of them is soon forced to confront the cost of their respective choices – and the realisation that there's no turning back."

Adapted from the novella of the same name by Don Winslow, the movie is directed by Bart Layton and co-written by Layton and Conclave screenwriter Peter Straughan. It's Layton's first time behind the camera since 2018's American Animals, which starred Evan Peters and Keoghan as students carrying out a heist of rare books at a Kentucky university.

The cast also includes Monica Barbaro, Corey Hawkins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Nick Nolte.

Caught Stealing star Austin Butler didn't just do his own stunts for Darren Aronofsky's new violent, funny crime thriller – he was doing them in the streets of New York City to an audience of totally unbothered locals.

"We had an amazing stunt team who took really good care of me, and I had a lot of fun with it, to be honest. I definitely was bruised and whatnot, but I love doing all that stuff," Butler told GamesRadar+ when we asked about taking (and doling out) punches in the movie.

"It's cool when you can actually do it as well. Sometimes you end up on a green screen, but they actually just hung me out of a window six stories up in the East Village," he continued. "It's funny though. I'm, like, hanging out of a window of a real building in the East Village, and I look across at one point, and – it's so New York – there's an old man across the way, just smoking a cigarette on the balcony, not even caring that I'm out there. He's just smoking a cigarette. And then I watched him for a while, and then eventually he just goes back in. He didn't care. It's amazing."

In the movie, Butler plays Hank, a former baseball prodigy whose dreams were scuppered by a life-changing injury. His current quiet life as a New York bartender is also thrown for a loop when a cat-sitting job for his neighbor Russ (Matt Smith) goes off the rails and he finds himself knee-deep in the city's organized crime scene.

Caught Stealing is as humorous as it is brutal, however, thanks in part to a darkly comedic ensemble cast including Vincent D'Onofrio, Liev Schreiber, and Regina King. It's something a little different for Aronofsky, who's previously directed psychological dramas like Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, and Mother!.

"[Aronofsky's] films are usually more serious, which I think was exciting to see," Butler's co-star Zoë Kravitz, who plays his love interest Yvonne, tells us of the director's switch-up in tone. "And then what's been so interesting is getting to know him. He is such a funny, playful person, so I'm really glad he's getting to kind of let that beast out of the cave."

Heat 2 is reportedly getting too expensive for Warner Bros. to handle on their own – but Leonardo DiCaprio may be joining the prequel's cast.

According to Puck's What I'm Hearing newsletter, the movie's initial budget came in at over $200 million. Mann has since brought it down to about $170 million, but that's still too steep for Warner Bros. The studio is reportedly open to partnering with a streamer or another studio, so the script has been passed on to Apple for their consideration.

What's more, DiCaprio is reportedly in talks to star in the movie, and Puck thinks his involvement would guarantee the movie's future. It's unclear who he would play if his casting is made official.

There's been talk of the prequel for a couple of years, but Mann revealed he'd completed the first draft of the script in March 2025. No formal casting announcements have been made yet but the rumor mill has been in overdrive, with Adam Driver and Austin Butler's names being thrown into the mix to play younger versions of Neil McCauley and Chris Shiherlis, the roles played by Robert De Niro and Val Kilmer in the original 1995 movie.

The new movie is based on Mann's 2022 novel, which he co-wrote with Meg Gardiner, which alternates between two timelines to act as both a prequel and a sequel to the cat-and-mouse chase between McCauley and Al Pacino's LAPD detective Vincent Hanna.

Everyone's favorite Wonder Woman fan cast Adria Arjona has joined the next directorial effort from Sinners star Michael B. Jordan.

Jordan is both directing and starring in the film, which co-stars Kenneth Branagh, his Black Panther co-star Danai Gurira, Killers of the Flower Moon star Lily Gladstone, Game of Thrones's Pilou Asbæk, and Aiysha Hart.

According to Variety, Arjona – who is probably best known now for her role as Bix in Andor – is replacing Bones and All star Taylor Russell on the film.

The original Thomas Crown Affair was released in 1968 and starred Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. It follows Dunaway's investigator, who is looking into a heist perpetrated by McQueen's millionaire Thomas Crown. The movie was remade in 1999 with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. Jordan's take is said to be based on the '68 original. Drew Pearce penned the script, with a previous draft by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson.

Arjona recently made headlines over Wonder Woman, with fans speculating she might be playing the DC hero since James Gunn follows her on Instagram. Gunn himself dispelled the rumors.

"I followed Adria Arjona on Instagram, but everybody came out: 'He just followed her, that means she's Wonder Woman,'" he commented. "She would be a great Wonder Woman, by the way. But she was in a movie I made seven years ago. We've been friends and have known each other since that time. I followed her then, I didn't just follow her. People just notice these things all the time."

A Wonder Woman movie is in the works, though, but it's only just got a writer – so don't expect any updates for a while.

Daniel Craig's well-dressed detective Benoit Blanc returns in an exclusive sneak peek for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery - that confirms the long-awaited movie's release date.

In the very brief clip, which can be viewed below, Benoit is wearing quite the wig... while a haunting song plays over a montage of clips that see the A-list cast looking rather somber. The clip also reveals the release date, which is set for December 12 (just as we predicted).

The threequel, which will once again see Blanc try to solve a head-scratchingly twisty whodunnit, is set to be another star-studded affair. Jeremy Renner, Josh O'Connor, Kerry Washington, Thomas Haden Church, Daryl McCormack, Cailee Spaeny, Josh Brolin, Andrew Scott, Mila Kunis, and Glenn Close make up the ensemble cast – and now we finally know who everyone is playing...

Last time we saw Blanc, he was flexing his sleuthing chops in 2022's Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, where he and several others were invited to the secluded Greek island of tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton). When one of the guests winds up dead, Blanc must identify the killer before it's too late.

Before Glass Onion was made available to Netflix subscribers on December 23, it indulged in a limited one-week release in select cinemas back in late November. "I want this in as many theaters for as long as possible," Johnson previously said of Wake Up Dead Man in an interview with Business Insider. "We're going to push for everything we can get in terms of theatrical because I want as many people as possible to see it in that form."

Despite its brief big-screen run, Glass Onion pulled in a respectable $15 million at the global box office.

The first trailer for Netflix's The Thursday Murder Club movie is here – and it's the perfect mix of Knives Out, Red, and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

Based on Richard Osman's hit novel of the same name, which was published in 2020 and has already spawned three sequels, the comedy-crime flick follows a group of pensioners living at luxury retirement home Coopers Chase, who team up to solve the murder of a property developer. The quartet consists of ex-spy Elizabeth (Helen Mirren), retired psychiatrist Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley), former union activist Ron (Pierce Brosnan), and retired nurse Joyce (Celia Imrie).

The clip, which you can watch above, opens with the group trying to figure out a cold case from 1973. "Isn't this room usually for jigsaws?" Joyce asks innocently. "Not on Thursdays, no," Elizabeth replies coolly, as she twists their evidence board around to reveal a finished puzzle of the grounds.

In a later scene, the gang get a thrill when they learn of a recent killing nearby. "Now we've got a real case to solve! Isn't it wonderful?!" Joyce smiles, as the other three give her a worried look. "Obviously RIP and all that."

What follows is a montage of spooky figures hiding in the shadows, team pendants, and the slowest car chase ever. And well, the first look seems to be going down well with fans of the source material...

"The perfect cast, I am sooooo looking forward to seeing this film, love all the books, get ready to snuggle in and be totally enthralled," one wrote in the YouTube comments section, as another gushed: "It's perfect!!!!!!!!!!!! Everything I imagined. Joyce and Elizabeth are just how I pictured."

"It’s the first time I’ve thought that it’s worth signing up for Netflix," said a third viewer, while others took to pointing out how it reminded them of one of Mirren's most famous roles: DCI Jane Tennison in BBC drama Prime Suspect.

"This is the finest cast I've worked with since [Harry] Potter," director Chris Columbus told Tudum. "They're just so incredibly well-prepared, and it's because they do everything. They do theater, they do television, they do film, and they've developed those sorts of muscles."

Upcoming crime thriller from legendary director Darren Aronofsky has revealed a new trailer, featuring Elvis, House of the Dragon, and The Batman actors being pulled into a messy criminal underworld.

The new trailer for Caught Stealing, which you can watch below, opens with Austin Butler as a bartender named Hank Thompson living in New York City in the ‘90s. One day, Hank is asked by his punk neighbour, Russ (Matt Smith), to look after his cat. However, pet sitting duties get a little messy when two Russian gangsters come looking for Russ, sending Butler’s protagonist and his girlfriend (Zoë Kravitz) into a wild goose chase.

From the trailer, the upcoming movie looks just as mind-bending, albeit a little more humorous, than Aronofsky's previous thrillers such as Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream, and Mother!. Caught Stealing is Darren Aronofsky's first feature film since his 2023 emotional drama The Whale, which gave star Brendan Fraser the Oscar for Best Picture at the 95th Academy Awards.

As per the official synopsis, Caught Stealing follows Hank, "a high-school baseball phenom who can’t play anymore," but has an "okay" life and a "great girl." That is, until his neighbor asks him to catsit. "Hank suddenly finds himself caught in the middle of a motley crew of threatening gangsters. They all want a piece of him; the problem is, he has no idea why. As Hank attempts to evade their ever-tightening grip, he’s got to use all his hustle to stay alive long enough to find out."

Written by Charlie Huston, and based on his book of the same name, Caught Stealing also stars Regina King, Liev Schreiber, Vincent D’Onofrio, Griffin Dunne, Benito A Martínez Ocasio, and Carol Kane.

Heat 2 is one step closer to hitting our screens. The movie has been in the works since April 2023, but director Michael Mann has revealed that he's now finished the first draft of the script.

"I just finished the screenplay and handed in the first draft," Mann said in a new interview with Vulture. "In this case it was Warner Brothers. Any more than that, I can’t talk about. But it’s an exciting project."

No official casting announcements have been made yet, but the rumor mill has been in overdrive since the movie was announced. Reports say Adam Driver is playing career thief Neil McCauley, the character played by Robert De Niro in the original film, while Austin Butler is rumored to be taking on Val Kilmer's role as McCauley's right-hand man Chris Shiherlis.

The new movie will be based on the novel Mann co-wrote with Meg Gardiner, released in 2022, that acts as both a prequel and a sequel to the 1995 crime drama about the cat-and-mouse chase between McCauley and Al Pacino's LAPD detective Vincent Hanna. Alternating between two timelines, the novel tells the story of everything that happens to the movie's principal characters before and after the events of Heat.

""It was a thrill to write it, because I got to go off on some tangents that you would never be able to do when making a motion picture," Mann told GamesRadar+ back in 2023.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has finally addressed the news that he's joining as the lead of Martin Scorsese's new movie. The as-yet untitled flick will follow a Hawaiian crime boss bidding for control of organized crime in the US state and will also star Emily Blunt and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Johnson's casting was announced at the end of February, and in mid-March he addressed the news on Twitter. "Grateful for what’s been the most creatively inspiring time of my career – working closely with my friends and of course, the maestro Marty Scorsese," he wrote.

"In the 60's, 70's & 80's the mafia controlled New York, Miami, Chicago, Vegas, and a particularly strong hold on the island I was raised – Hawaii. Much more to come. Aloha nui loa."

The upcoming movie will be written by Nick Bilton and is set in the '60s and '70s in Hawaii when a charismatic mob boss rose to build a powerful criminal empire. Per Deadline, "it’s based on the untold true story of a man who fought to preserve his homeland through a ruthless quest for absolute power – igniting the last great American mob saga, where the war for cultural survival takes place in the unlikeliest of places: paradise."

Johnson has been staying busy over the past few years, headlining blockbusters like Black Adam and Red One. He's also been filming the live-action version of Moana most recently and has Benny Safdie's movie The Smashing Machine on the horizon too, which marks his pivot into more dramatic roles.

Snyderverse fans, rejoice. Two of that world’s Justice League members are teaming up in a new thriller for Netflix. Variety reports that former Cyborg and Rebel Moon star Ray Fisher is starring alongside Batfleck himself in an upcoming thriller called Animals, which Ben Affleck is also directing.

Connor McIntyre and Billy Ray have penned the project, which focuses on the kidnapping of a mayoral candidate’s child. Fisher is one of the latest names added to the film, which already boasts an impressive group of talent. Gillian Anderson, Kerry Washington, Steven Yeun, Luis Gerardo Méndez, and Adriana Paz are all on board, with filming beginning in Los Angeles. It will mark the first time Fisher and Affleck could appear on screen together since Justice League was released in theaters in 2017.

Initially, Matt Damon was set on taking the role Affleck ended up with (who is also on board as producer) but had stepped away due to scheduling conflicts with Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey which seems to have sucked up half of Hollywood for its casting. This is what led to the director stepping in front of the camera as well as behind it.

It’s nothing new for him at this point. This will mark the fourth time Affleck has starred in a film he’s also helming, with the most recent effort being alongside Damon in Air, which followed the groundbreaking deal of Nike collaborating with Michael Jordan. Before Animals gets unleashed, Damon and Affleck will also star in another crime thriller for Netflix named RIP, which was teased at the Next at Netflix event earlier this year. That movie will see the two longtime friends and collaborators as cops who discover $20 million during a raid and its fallout. By order of Netflix and the Peaky fluffin' Blinders (come on, it's too early for that kind of language), it's been confirmed that the feature-length chapter of Thomas Shelby's (Cillian Murphy) future exploits will make its way to both the big screen and the small upon release.

The show's creator, Steven Knight, confirmed with The Playlist that the Peaky Blinders movie The Immortal Man will be released theatrically, allowing audiences to make a real night of the event. This is a dream scenario for Knight, who has wanted to give back to the fans who spread the word about his little period gangster drama, which has become iconic after its six seasons.

“It was never promoted massively, but people just found it and told each other about it,” explained Knight, whose show debuted in the UK way back in 2013. “And the way that they’re so passionate about it, I really want them to be watching this all together in one building because the communication has all been virtual, which is fine. But I do want this to be in cinemas so that people can sit there together and watch this thing happen.”

Knight doubled down on the news that the Peaky Blinders movie would be arriving in theaters even though Netflix hadn't made it official. “Yes. Well, I’ve just made that announcement. So, yes,” he confirmed.

This isn't the first time Knight has let slip essential details regarding his beloved show and its future. In January, he revealed (even though he wasn't supposed to) that spin-offs to Shelby's illegal activities were in the works. As for The Immortal Man, Cillian Murphy will be joined by some familiar faces, including Sophie Rundle as Ada, Ned Dennehy as Charlie Strong, and Paul Anderson as Arthur Shelby.

Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, and Barry Keoghan are among the new faces joining the cast. Stephen Graham, who briefly appeared in the sixth season of the show, will also return as Hayden Stagg after recently collaborating with Knight on their Victorian boxing drama, A Thousand Blows.

For now, all we can do is hope that Tommy Shelby picks up the pace in his walk to the edge of town for whenever The Immortal Man arrives. For release dates of films we can talk about, check out every movie coming your way in 2025 right here.

The first trailer for upcoming gangster thriller The Alto Knights is here and it looks like the king of mob movies Robert De Niro has met his most worthy opponent yet… himself.

The trailer, which you can watch below, opens with De Niro’s character Vito Genovese meeting fellow mob boss Frank Costello, also played by De Niro, in a restaurant as the two discuss Costello wanting to go straight. "You're either in or out," says Genovese. All of a sudden, Costello gets shot, presumably by Genovese, which prompts him to seek early retirement and an escape from mob life. But it doesn't look like Costello is going to let him do that.

Directed by Barry Levinson, the mob drama tells the story of rival Italian American mafia bosses Genovese and Costello (both played by De Niro) running two separate crime families in the ‘50s. The most interesting part is, unlike Tom Hardy’s dual roles in the 2015 movie Legend, De Niro’s characters are not related, they just happen to look the same. However, as we see in the trailer, the two have known each other since childhood.

The reaction to the trailer online has been mostly positive with fans happy to see De Niro doing what he does best, playing mobsters. "Another De Niro mobster movie? I’ll be seated," replied one fan to Warner Bros’ Twitter post, "Can't wait to see Robert De Niro back in action, this looks intense," said another. The star is best known in the genre for playing gangsters in movies such as Goodfellas, The Untouchables, The Godfather Part II, and more.

Written by Nicholas Pileggi, The Alto Knights also stars Debra Messing, Cosmo Jarvis, and The Sopranos star Kathrine Narducci.

Samuel L. Jackson has marked Pulp Fiction's 30th anniversary with a video recreating one of his character's most iconic scenes – with a twist. 

"YOU KNOW I STILL GOT IT!!! EZEKIEL 25:17," the actor wrote on Twitter alongside a video of him reciting his lines at double speed. "HAPPY 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF PULP FICTION."

He recites the following speech in just 22 seconds: "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and goodwill shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee."

Pulp Fiction was released back in October 1994. Jackson plays Jules Winnfield, a hitman working with John Travolta's Vincent Vega. Jules recites his take on the Bible verse before he takes out a hit, and he repeats a version of the speech later on in the movie too.

Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, Pulp Fiction was nominated for seven Oscars (including Best Picture) and took home the gong for Best Original Screenplay. Alongside Jackson and Travolta, the movie also starred Uma Thurman, Harvey Keitel, Ving Rhames, and Bruce Willis. 

Next up for Jackson is The Piano Lesson, which co-stars John David Washington, Ray Fisher, and Erykah Badu, and follows the lives of a family in '30s Pittsburgh.

Tim Roth is the latest addition to the cast of the highly anticipated Peaky Blinders movie. Best known for playing Emil Blonsky - also known as Abomination - in Marvel's The Incredible Hulk and the She-Hulk series, the actor's role in the upcoming film is currently under wraps. 

He joins a star-studded cast that includes Dune's Rebecca Ferguson and fellow Marvel star Barry Keoghan, who played Druig in 2021's Eternals. Cillian Murphy is, of course, reprising his role as Tommy Shelby, head of the Shelby crime family that the show follows through the 1920s and '30s.  

There are many characters from the series who could potentially return for the movie, but so far Murphy, Roth, Ferguson, and Keoghan are the only confirmed cast members.

At the end of the sixth and final season of Peaky Blinders, Tommy gave up his life of crime to live out what he believed to be his final days. Diagnosed with a brain tumour, he thought himself to be dying - only to find out in the season's final moments that he wasn't, after all. The doctor who wrongly diagnosed him was a friend of Sam Claflin's Oswald Mosley, a fascist figure who was once Tommy's partner in politics.

It would be satisfying to see Tommy get some revenge on Mosley for his deception in the upcoming film, but so far we know very few details about the plot aside from it being set in World War II. The show's creator Steven Knight has written the script and also acts as a producer. In the director's chair is Tom Harper, who's previously directed episodes of the show as well as Netflix thriller Heart of Stone.

As for when the movie will be on our screens, it's likely to be the end of 2025 at the earliest. It's set to go into production in Birmingham in the UK before the end of the year, with Netflix and BBC Films providing funding. It'll be released via Netflix.

Michael B. Jordan is set to direct and star in a remake of classic heist movie The Thomas Crown Affair, Deadline reports.

Jordan will play Thomas Crown, a millionaire adrenaline junkie who orchestrates a bank heist out of boredom. Just when he thinks he's gotten away with it, he comes up against a skilled female insurance investigator, and Thomas may just have met his match – intellectually and romantically.

This will be the third version of the movie: the original, released in 1968, starred Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway, while a 1999 remake saw Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo take the lead. Moonstruck helmer Norman Jewison was in the director's chair in '68, while Predator director John McTiernan helmed the '90s version.

The Fall Guy screenwriter Drew Pearce penned the script, and this will be Jordan's sophomore feature on directorial duties – he made his debut with 2023's Creed 3, which he also starred in. No other casting information has been revealed for the latest iteration of The Thomas Crown Affair just yet, including who will play the female lead.

Next up for Jordan is a currently untitled vampire movie that will reunite him with Black Panther director Ryan Coogler. The film, set for release in March 2025, will co-star Da 5 Bloods' Delroy Lindo, SAS: Rogue Heroes' Jack O'Connell, Dickinson's Hailee Steinfeld, Loki's Wunmi Mosaku, and The Batman's Jayme Lawson.

Only the River Flows, the latest film from Chinese director Wei Shujun, is a different kind of crime thriller. The movie, which premiered at last year's Cannes Film Festival and competed in Un Certain Regard, takes the detective genre and runs with it – then sets it down, firmly, and forces the audience to look closely at it. Releasing theatrically in China last fall and becoming one of the country's highest-grossing independent films, the movie is now hitting UK cinemas. 

Set in a small town in rural China in the mid-'90s, Only the River Flows follows police chief Ma Zhe (Zhu Yilong) as he investigates a series of murders. Zhe is your standard noir cop – he's good at his job, spends most of his screentime looking increasingly dejected in a leather jacket, and chain-smokes cigarettes non-stop.

The China of Only the River Flows is also typical noir territory, set against a backdrop of grey, gloomy weather and equally gloomy surroundings, filmed in grainy, flickering 16mm. Kids play in a dilapidated apartment building and the police department has just moved its offices to the newly defunct movie theater, recently closed due to lack of use. 

Search for meaning

Against this backdrop, we learn about the murder of a widowed elderly woman, known to the townspeople as 'Granny Four', whose body is found one evening on the riverbank. A cassette tape of mysterious messages recorded for an unknown recipient found inside an abandoned handbag at the crime scene propels Zhe down a dogged path in search of the truth, which takes him deeper and deeper into the local community. Every time he thinks he's made a breakthrough in the case, however, the body count grows, with seemingly no link between victims except their violent demises and the fact they've been subject to Zhe's questioning. When an arrest is finally made, the detective can't seem to accept that this is how it all ends. But are things more straightforward than they appear?

The movie opens with an Albert Camus quote filling the screen: "There's no understanding fate, therefore I choose to play the part of fate," it reads. "I wear the foolish, unintelligible face of a professional god." Zhe's search for meaning in the string of riverside murders is driven by a desperate need to make sense of otherwise senseless violence and death. He trawls the town's streets and questions suspects and witnesses with tireless determination, to the point where the work becomes all-consuming. The case follows him home, affecting his relationship with his pregnant wife, which only intensifies his need for truth. All of this has to be worth something, right?  

We don't want to spoil anything, but there are no big twists or reveals in Only the River Flows. The film confronts both our perverse desire for salacious crime stories and our need for logical conclusions. Zhe is rewarded for his work on the case, but he doesn't want praise or recognition. There's no glory in this, the film seems to be telling us. By subverting what we expect from this kind of movie, it's emphasizing that no one wins here – not Ma Zhe, not the victims, not the perpetrator. And not the viewer, either.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are set to team up for their tenth project together with new crime thriller RIP.

The pair will star in the movie and produce through their company Artists Equity, while Joe Carnahan will direct and write the film's script. Plot details and further casting information are still being kept under wraps.

Affleck and Damon have a long history of working together, starting when they were both extras on 1989's Field of Dreams. They went on to act in School Ties (1992), Good Will Hunting (1997), Chasing Amy (1997), Dogma (1999), Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001), Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (2019), The Last Duel (2021), and Air (2023). The duo have also worked together behind the camera, co-writing Good Will Hunting and The Last Duel – the former project won them the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay in 1998.

Recently, the pair also produced Small Things Like These, a historical drama set in '80s Ireland, which stars Damon's Oppenheimer co-star Cillian Murphy and Emily Watson.

As for Carnahan, he's written movies like Bad Boys for Life, Death Wish, and Pride and Glory. He's also directed action flicks including Smokin' Aces, which was released in 2006 and starred Affleck alongside Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman, as well as more recent releases like Copshop and Boss Level.

Game of Thrones' Jonathan Pryce and Doctor Who stars David Tennant and Naomi Ackie have joined The Thursday Murder Club, the movie adaptation of Richard Osman's best-selling crime novel. 

And that's not all: Line of Duty's Daniel Mays and Killing Eve's Henry Lloyd-Hughes have also been added to the film's starry line up. The new additions will share the screen with existing cast members Celia Imrie, Ben Kingsley, Helen Mirren, and Pierce Brosnan, whose involvement was announced back in April. 

Based on Osman's book, which was published in 2020 and has already spawned three sequels, the comedy-crime flick looks set to follow a bunch of pensioners living in a luxury retirement complex, who team up to solve the murder of a property developer. The group consists of ex-spy Elizabeth (Mirren), retired psychiatrist Ibrahim (Kingsley), former union activist Ron (Brosnan), and retired nurse Joyce (Imrie). Think Only Murders in the Building meets The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, with a dash of Red thrown in for good measure...

Amblin and Netflix are behind the big screen take, with Harry Potter's Chris Columbus signed on to write and direct. Filming is scheduled to begin in late June. Columbus is also producing alongside Jennifer Todd, while Holly Bario, Jeb Brody,  Eleanor Columbus, and Jo Burn are executive producing.

"There's some great names and some more names coming as well," Osman said this morning on his podcast The Rest Is Entertainment (via Deadline). "I think this is the greatest British cast assembled since the [Harry Potter] movies."

 Cillian Murphy has finally broken his silence on the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie – and confirmed that he's definitely returning as Tommy Shelby. 

What's more, the movie will be getting a Netflix release. The streamer shared Murphy's statement along with a photo of the script, which, at the moment, is just titled 'A Peaky Blinders Film'. Heart of Stone director Tom Harper will helm the movie from a script written by Peaky Blinders showrunner Steven Knight and filming is due to kick off later this year.

Knight had previously said that Murphy was "definitely" returning for the movie, but this is the first time the actor has confirmed the news. "It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me…" the Oppenheimer star said in a statement. "It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans."

This isn't the first time Murphy and Harper have worked together, either – the filmmaker directed three episodes of the show's first season in 2013. "When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive," the director said. "Peaky has always been a story about family – and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix."

Emilia Pérez had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. Here's our review...

French director Jacques Audiard (A Prophet, Rust and Bone) leaves his comfort zone far behind with his new film. A fully engaging two-hour musical set in Mexico City, complete with dance numbers and a storyline that ranges from gender reassignment to cartel violence, it’s as daring as they come. With a wonderful cast led by Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez, and the terrific Spanish actor Karla Sofía Gascón, it’s a film that wows in multiple ways. 

The plot gets truly underway as Rita (Saldaña), a dedicated counsellor at law, is summoned by a mysterious voice on the phone. No sooner does she arrive at a newsstand than she is press-ganged into a vehicle, where she meets drug lord Manitas Del Monte (Gascón). 

Two years earlier, he began hormone treatment and wants Rita to find him a surgeon to complete his journey to live “the life nature wouldn’t give me”. Completing his transition, Del Monte becomes Emilia Pérez and starts life over. Even wife Jessi (Gomez) is made to think her husband has been killed. 

With stellar songs by French singer Camille, a highly original score by Clément Ducol, and striking choreography by Damien Jalet, Emilia Pérez shifts effortlessly from musical extravagances to a gritty underworld milieu. 

The latter comes to the fore when the story moves on several years, finding Pérez keen to start a campaign to locate those who have “disappeared” in Mexico’s shady crime-riddled system. Saldaña and Gomez deliver forceful performances (both in Spanish), but even they are outflanked by Gascón. A miraculous movie.

The Judge, a 10-year-old legal drama starring Robert Downey Jr., is racing up the Netflix charts since it arrived on the US version of the streamer last week. 

The movie has been viewed more than 5.3 million times and it's currently the third most popular movie on Netflix, behind Shrek and Jerry Seinfeld's Pop-Tart comedy Unfrosted. 

Downey Jr. stars as Chicago lawyer Hank Palmer who returns to his hometown after his mother's death. While he's there, his estranged father (Robert Duvall), who's also the town's judge, is suspected of murder, and Hank sets out to discover the truth. The film's cast also includes Vincent D'Onofrio, Jeremy Strong, Vera Farmiga, and Billy Bob Thornton. 

The movie was directed by David Dobkin, in a somewhat surprising career move. The filmmaker's other works include Wedding Crashers, the 2005 comedy starring Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, and Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, Netflix's 2020 comedy in which Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams play Iceland's representatives at the Eurovision Song Contest. 

The Judge was divisive when it was released back in 2014 – although Duvall received an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination for his performance, the movie only holds a critics' score of 49% on Rotten Tomatoes, with the Total Film verdict being "manipulative middlebrow awards bait without the substance to land any prizes." 

The Observer accused the film of "sentimental silliness and courtroom cliches", while Rolling Stone said it was an "overstuffed, overlong slog". However, critics seem to agree on the strength of the acting, with Time Out praising Downey Jr.'s "charismatic performance" and The Hollywood Reporter noting that "even when the circumstances seem contrived, the actors mine moments of truth that resonate with raw emotion."

Now You See Me 3 has had a positive update as it adds Saltburn star Rosamund Pike to its growing cast list. 

Pike has been cast in an unknown role in the third installment of Lionsgate‘s magic-themed thriller franchise, as reported by Deadline. The star is joining Barbie’s Ariana Greenblatt, Pokémon Detective Pikachu’s Justice Smith, and The Holdovers’ Dominic Sessa who were cast in the movie earlier this year. 

The British actor is best known for starring as Amy Dunne in David Fincher's thriller Gone Girl, Netflix movie I Care A Lot, Pride and Prejudice, and most recently Emerald Fennel's Saltburn as fan favorite Elspeth Catton.

Released in 2013, Now You See Me introduced us to a group of criminal magicians known as The Horsemen as they were chased around Las Vegas by a disgruntled FBI agent. Now You See Me 2 takes place in China and sees the group attempt to pull off their biggest robbery yet. The first two movies star Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, and Morgan Freeman who are expected to reprise their roles in the threequel.

Now You See Me 3 does not yet have an official plotline, but we expect the movie to once again follow the shady dealings of the magical four and their adversaries. The movie is directed by Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer, and is written by American Huste’s Eric Warren Singer, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ Seth Grahame-Smith, and Assassin’s Creed’s Mike Lesslie.

The cast for the movie adaptation of crime novel The Thursday Murder Club has been revealed, and it's an all-star line-up.

The Thursday Murder Club follows a group of pensioners living in a luxury retirement community who set out to solve the murder of a property developer. Author Richard Osman revealed that Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, and Ben Kingsley will play three of the four sleuths on his podcast The Rest is Entertainment: Mirren will play Elizabeth, Brosnan will play Ron, and Kingsley will play Ibrahim. The casting for Joyce, the fourth main character, is still under wraps.

The book is TV presenter and producer Osman's debut novel and was first published in 2020 after a 10-way bidding war between publishing houses. The Thursday Murder Club became a Sunday Times number one bestseller and, according to The Guardian, the book was the fastest-selling adult crime debut ever. Three sequels followed in 2021, 2022, and 2023, and a fifth book in the series is set to be published next year.

Steven Spielberg's production company Amblin Entertainment is behind the new adaptation and Chris Columbus (who's previously helmed movies like Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire, and the first two Harry Potter films) is in the director's chair. Amblin bought the rights to the novel back in 2020 and stars like Meryl Streep and Viola Davis had previously been rumored to be involved.

The cast of Now You See Me 3 is shaping up nicely as the franchise’s third installment adds three more stars to the project. 

Barbie’s Ariana Greenblatt, Pokémon Detective Pikachu’s Justice Smith, and The Holdovers’ Dominic Sessa are the latest to be cast in Now You See Me's third flick, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The trio joins the heist thriller’s original cast members Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, and Morgan Freeman, who are all expected to reprise their roles. 

In terms of the newcomers, we last saw Smith in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves alongside Chris Pine, and for Sessa, he stirred up major Oscar buzz with his performance in The Holdovers with Academy Award-nominated Paul Giamatti. As for Greenblatt, we last saw her as Sasha in Barbie, and the rising star will soon grace our screens again in Eli Roth’s video game adaptation Borderlands.

Where will the trickster thieves end up next? Well, we will just have to wait and see.

Cillian Murphy is set to star in and produce a new crime drama written by the team behind Edge of Tomorrow, Deadline reports. 

The movie will be an adaptation of the non-fiction book Blood Runs Coal: The Yablonski Murders and the Battle for the United Mine Workers of America by Mark A. Bradley, which follows the assassination of a coal mining trade unionist and his family by a corrupt rival in '60s Pennsylvania, and the FBI manhunt to track down the killer.

Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth, who previously worked together on the script of Tom Cruise-led sci-fi actioner Edge of Tomorrow and have individually worked on movies including Spectre, Ford v Ferrari, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, will pen the screenplay. 

Murphy recently won the Oscar for Best Actor for his role as the titular physicist in Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan, and Blood Runs Coal isn't the only upcoming project he has in the works, either. His next film, Small Things Like These, is set in '80s Ireland and sees Murphy's character discover some shocking secrets about his local convent and his own life. Murphy is also producing along with his Oppenheimer co-star Matt Damon. He's also reportedly returning as Tommy Shelby for the Peaky Blinders movie from series creator Steven Knight, which is set to start filming in a few months time.

Cillian Murphy is returning to Birmingham: Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has confirmed that the actor is officially returning for the movie, which is due to start filming in a matter of months.

"He definitely is returning for it," Knight told Birmingham World when asked about Murphy's involvement. "We're shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth." The movie doesn't have a release date yet, but we can expect to see Tommy Shelby back on our screens sometime in 2025, if the start of filming date is anything to go by.

Murphy's involvement in a big-screen follow-up to the hit BBC series has been up in the air for a while. "If there’s more story there, I’d love to do it," the actor told Rolling Stone UK last year. "But it has to be right. Steve Knight wrote 36 hours of television, and we left on such a high. I’m really proud of that last series. So, it would have to feel legitimate and justified to do more." Well, it looks like we can expect a "legitimate and justified" movie when cameras start rolling this fall. 

During his interview with Birmingham World, Knight also heaped praise on Murphy's recent Oscar win for his performance as the titular physicist in Oppenheimer. "It was so deserved. I mean he’s brilliant, and he’s such a great human being and he leads the line when we’re shooting and he’s so level-headed and straightforward," he said. "He deserves everything he gets."

Former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan has signed himself up for more spy business, having joined the cast of Steven Soderbergh's upcoming thriller Black Bag. He's not the only returning to the world of espionage, either, as Naomie Harris, who previously played Eve Moneypenny in Daniel Craig's batch of 007 movies, has also been added to the new flick's starry line-up.

The duo will share the screen with the likes of Michael Fassbender, Regé Jean Page, Marisa Abela, and Cate Blanchett, as well as Tom Burke, who recently came on board, too. Production is set to kick off in London sometime in May, with Casey Silver and Greg Jacobs producing.

For now, plot details remain under wraps, but we do know the script was penned by David Koepp, who has previously penned movies such as Panic Room, Jurassic Park, Spider-Man, Mission: Impossible, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Soderbergh, however, is best known for helming Contagion, Magic Mike, and the Ocean's Eleven trilogy.

Having played, arguably, the most iconic secret agent of all time in Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough, and Die Another Day, Brosnan is no stranger to spy antics, though it's unclear as to whether he'll actually be playing one in Soderbergh's Focus Features outing. In recent years, the actor has portrayed a king in Cinderella, a bank robber in The Outlaws, and a superhero in Black Adam, so anything's on the cards...

Dune's Rebecca Ferguson is set to star in Mercy, an intriguing new sci-fi thriller from Amazon's MGM Studios. Guardians of the Galaxy's Chris Pratt is already attached to the project, though the supporting cast remains under wraps for now.

According to Deadline, Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) will direct, working from a script by Marco van Belle. Majd Nassif and Oppenheimer's Charles Roven are locked in to produce. Filming is expect to start sometime in the next couple of months.

We're curious as to how the sci-fi elements will be weaved in, as all we know of the plot so far is that it'll center around Pratt's detective, as he tries to prove his innocence after being accused of a violent crime.

Ferguson can currently be seen in Dune: Part Two, the eagerly anticipated sequel to Denis Villeneuve's 2021 adaptation of Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi novel. Its predecessor centers on Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), the son of a powerful Duke, whose life gets turned upside down when his father Leto (Oscar Isaac) accepts a stewardship role on the hostile planet of Arrakis. At the end of Part 1, Paul and his mother, Lady Jessica (Ferguson), align themselves with the desert world's people, the Fremen, in an attempt to free it from the unlawful, brutal Harkonnens and fulfil Leto's dream of bringing peace to the land.

Part 2, which has already shattered box-office records, picks up right where Part 1 left off, with Paul, Jessica, and Chani (Zendaya) making a play against Christopher Walken's scheming Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV and the powerful Bene Gesserit. What's in store beyond that when it comes to the big screen – HBO is currently developing a spin-off series – remains a mystery for now, though Villeneuve has voiced his desire to develop a third movie.

Pratt will next be heard in Garfield, a new animated take on the lazy, lasagna-loving, Monday-hating moggy, as he causes problems for his owner Jon Arbuckle, and Jon's sweet-natured dog Odie.

A new video of Austin Butler taking part in gun training exercises is doing the rounds online, and it's got fans even more convinced that the Elvis and Dune: Part Two star has a role in Heat 2. 

Butler is rumored to be playing Chris Shiherlis, a role played by Val Kilmer in the original movie. Shiherlis is the right-hand man of career thief Neil McCauley. Mann previously confirmed that Heat 2 will be his next movie, so production is likely to start soon, but the only (sort of) confirmed cast member so far is Adam Driver, who will be playing a younger version of Robert De Niro's McCauley.

"Just hit me with that Austin Butler Heat 2 announcement already PLEASE," one fan tweeted, while another wrote, "I can't think of much right now that would make me happier than confirmation than Austin playing Chris in Heat 2!" 

The new movie will be based on the novel Mann co-wrote with Meg Gardiner, released in 2022, that acts as both a prequel and a sequel to the 1995 crime drama, which saw De Niro's McCauley in a cat-and-mouse chase with Al Pacino's LAPD detective Vincent Hanna. Jumping between two timelines, it tells the story of everything that happens to the movie's principal characters before and after the events of Heat.

It's been a big year for Butler already, with the actor starring as antagonist Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in sci-fi sequel Dune: Part Two and taking on the role of real-life fighter pilot Major Gale Cleven in Apple TV Plus historical drama Masters of the Air.

Spike Lee and Denzel Washington are set to reunite for the first time in 17 years. This time, the pair are teaming up with A24 and Apple TV Plus for a reimagining of Oscar-winning filmmaker Akira Kurosawa's 1963 crime flick High and Low.

The outing will mark their fifth collaboration as actor and director, following Mo' Better Blues (1990), Malcolm X (1992), He Got Game (1998), and 2006's Inside Man. Apple announced the news on Twitter on February 9, stating that filming on the reinterpretation will kick off in March.

Loosely based on the novel King's Ransom by Ed McBain, Kurosawa's High and Low follows Kingo Gondo (Toshiro Mifune), a wealthy man who winds up in financial ruin when he lends his desperate chauffeur money so that he can pay off his son's kidnappers. Martin Scorsese was linked to an unfinished reboot back in 2008, while Steven Soderbergh used the same story as inspiration for his 2023 miniseries Full Circle.

Lee has made no secret of the fact that he's a Kurosawa fan, having previously stated even that his 1986 comedy She's Gotta Have It was influenced by the Japanese director's 1950 drama Rashomon. Elsewhere, Washington is no stranger to launching films with Apple TV Plus, having received a best actor Oscar nomination for his performance in its Shakespeare retelling The Tragedy of Macbeth.

Washington and Lee's yet-to-be-titled take on High and Low will be released in select theaters before streaming on Apple TV Plus exclusively. While we wait for more news on the upcoming film, check out our picks of the most exciting upcoming movies heading our way.

The new movie from Stranger Things star Joe Keery has a first look – and we're getting some Pulp Fiction vibes. 

The film, titled Marmalade, is described as an "edge-of-your-seat crime-tinged romance tale." Per the official synopsis, the film sees a recently locked-up man named Baron befriend his cellmate Otis, who has a history of escaping from prison. They scheme to escape together, while Baron tells the story of meeting the love of his life, Marmalade. They had a Bonnie and Clyde-esque plan to get the money they need to care for Baron's ill mother and secure their dream life by robbing a bank. 

In one of the images, which you can see above, Keery's Baron and Camila Morrone's Marmalade get romantic in a diner booth, reminding us of Tim Roth and Amanda Plummer's Pumpkin and Honey Bunny in Pulp Fiction. 

The other pictures below include lovebirds Baron and Marmalade praying together, Baron and Otis in prison, Marmalade and Baron kissing in a fancy car, and Baron lying on the floor with a creepy mask beside him. 

Black Adam's Aldis Hodge co-stars as Otis, while the film is written and directed by Keir O'Donnell. 

As for Stranger Things, the upcoming season 5 will be its last. "I'm gonna just make a bold statement," Keery's co-star David Harbour has said of the season. "Each year, it feels like the show's getting bigger and bigger and more exciting. And we have a real responsibility to knock it out of the park in the final season. So if we don't, give me all of your fan rage. Write the petitions. Go ahead, do it. Because I'm going down there next week to start and I'm going to pour my whole heart into this thing. I've read some of the scripts and in my mind, they're stunningly beautiful. It's time. We're going to knock it out of the park. We're going to deliver you the finale that you need, that you want, that I want."
