A new trailer for The Rings of Power season 3 has finally arrived, and it's a smoky, fiery return to Middle-earth where the stakes are higher and darker than ever.

The trailer, which you can watch above, is very much focused on Sauron. The villain sits on his throne, dons the One Ring, and even faces a Balrog in the footage, as he gathers his formidable army of Orcs and speaks to the Nazgûl.

Galadriel also features heavily in the trailer, and we're finally introduced to her husband Celeborn, played by Jamie Campbell Bower, too.

The Rings of Power season 3 will pick up in the aftermath of the dramatic season 2 ending, which saw Sauron escape with the titular rings – and the Siege of Eregion.

Season 3 is set to have a five-year time skip from its predecessor, though, so expect things to be very different when we catch up with Middle-earth. "I mean, it's pure advantage. We love the idea that even if you've maybe never seen the first two seasons, season 3 is a great place to jump in because the stories are starting in a brand new spot," co-showrunner Patrick McKay shared at SDCC earlier this year. "You know, if you're a fan who loved the first two seasons, that's wonderful, and now you can see where everybody has gone in five years."

There are also changes to the cast this time around, with newcomers including Bower's Celeborn. "This idea of longing and yearning is so pervasive in Tolkien's relationship with [his wife] Edith for the time that they were apart," Bower has previously said of his role. "I really feasted on that idea. Celeborn has had to find a way to survive whilst longing for something that he so dearly loved and so dearly missed as well."

Director of the Life is Strange video game, Michel Koch, has visited the set of the upcoming Amazon TV adaptation, and it sounds like the Prime Video series has his seal of approval.

"This month, I experienced one of the most surreal weeks of my life," said Koch on Instagram, saying that "being on the set of the Life is Strange show" was "a highlight of my career." The post continues: "I met some of the most wonderful, passionate, talented and kind human beings, united by their passion for the game and the same love for those two characters… I can’t reveal much for now, but the care, the love, the attention to detail… I couldn’t be prouder." Now that is big praise indeed, coming from the co-creator of the two lead characters, Chloe Price and Maxine Caulfield, who Koch said "changed my life forever." The show has cast Maisy Stella as Chloe and Tatum Grace Hopkins as Max. Koch approves of the leads, as he wrote, "I especially want to mention our two amazing actresses… I really can’t wait for you to experience their talent and see them bring Max and Chloe to life!"

Released in 2015, Life is Strange follows 18-year-old Blackwell Academy student Max with time-wielding abilities. Max uses her newfound power to solve the disappearance of a girl named Rachel at her school, which eventually leads her to her childhood best friend Chloe. The game allows players to change the direction of the story as it unfolds by going back in time while completing quests and solving puzzles.

It sounds like the show will remain faithful to the game, as the official synopsis from Amazon reads, "The story follows Max, a photography student, who discovers she can rewind time while saving the life of her childhood best friend, Chloe. As she struggles to understand this new skill, the pair investigate the mysterious disappearance of a fellow student, uncovering a dark side to their town that will ultimately force them to make an impossible life-or-death choice that will impact them forever."

The series was first announced back in September 2025. The End of the F***ing World creator Charlie Covell serves as head writer, executive producer, and showrunner, with Square Enix, Story Kitchen, LuckyChap, and Amazon MGM Studios producing.

The nights are growing longer and darker, which gives you ample time to dive into the best horror movies available to stream this spooky season. This year, we are celebrating Halloween a little differently by bringing you the best scary movies on streaming every week until the end of October. Last week, we listed the five best Stephen King horror movies on the web. But this week we're taking a closer look at the horror remakes that manage to live up to the OGs, and sometimes even beat them.

Now, to make your movie marathon a little smoother, we are only counting down the flicks that are readily available on streaming sites. To make this list, both the original and newer title must both be ready to stream, so you can enjoy a double feature without having to buy or rent anything. Sadly, that means that you won't find The Hills Have Eyes, The Evil Dead, or The Texas Chain Saw Massacre below.

But not to worry, we have found plenty of downright frightening features to scare you silly, from a vampire tale over 100 years old to movies that you might not have known are remakes at all. So what are you waiting for? Grab your score sheets and get ready to play the game of classics vs. remakes. Suspiria

Suspiria is one of the most stylish horror movies ever made. However, I will say it and its remake feel like very different films. Both concern dance schools that are filled with witchy activities. However, the original (helmed by Dario Argento) is focused on trippy witchy things happening and little else, while Luca Guadagnino's remake has political issues of its 1977 setting and its effects on the characters front and centre.

Dario Argento's original movie on the other hand feels like a beautifully lit fever dream. The film is isolated, disorienting, and does make you question reality at multiple points. It's a masterful showcase of visual storytelling. The mystique and just plain strangeness of the academy is the focus and the Giallo sensibilities work beautifully. The original Suspiria has also inspired so many horror movies at this point that I recommend everyone watch it. However, if you prefer more scripted and character-driven horror, the remake does that extremely well and will be much more up your alley.

The Thing

I'm a massive fan of John Carpenter's 1982 movie The Thing. However, I do often forget that it is actually a remake of a 1951 black-and-white sci-fi flick called The Thing from Another World. Both adapt the 1938 John W. Campbell Jr. novella Who Goes There?, and both are solid creature features as they expertly capture the fear of being trapped with an overpowering being. In terms of the 1950s movie, a United States Air Force crew finds and then thaws out a humanoid alien in Antarctica who is very much not friendly.

The remake, on the other hand, involves a group of American researchers (also in Antarctica) accidentally bringing a malicious shapeshifting alien into their base. In terms of horror, I will say that the '80s Thing is the choice I'd recommend. The practical effects are astounding, and the shapeshifting element really does put you on edge as paranoia sinks in. However, the 1950s movie was a marker in creature features along with the likes of Frankenstein, and definitely deserves its flowers if you have the time to check it out as well.

Speak No Evil

It's pretty rare to see a horror movie remake release just 2 years after the original hit screens, but that is exactly what happened with Speak No Evil. The funny thing is, even though both movies follow almost exactly the same premise, they each work in their own right. The 2022 movie follows a Danish family who meet a Dutch family while on vacation, and they hit it off so much that they get invited to the Dutch duo's home for a minibreak. But it doesn't take long for our protagonists to realise that their new chums may not be who they say they are.

The original movie is a tense and disturbing thrill ride with one of the bleakest endings in the genre. However, the remake takes everything that works in the Northern European flick and adapts it for a wider audience, this time focusing on an American and British couple. Spoiler: the Brits are the baddies here. James McCavoy plays the unpredictable yet charismatic villain Paddy, who flies off the handle at any given moment. Forget your local haunted house and spend this Halloween at Paddy's rural home. Just don't overstay your welcome.

Nosferatu

Both the original Nosferatu and the Robert Eggers remake are counted as some of the best vampire movies ever made, so it is easy to recommend that you watch both this spooky season. Both have the same general premise, Thomas Hutter is sent to Transylvania in order to buy Count Orlok's home. However, Orlok is not only a vampire but one who takes a shine to Thomas' wife, Ellen. In the remake, Ellen has known Orlok since childhood, and she does have a more active role, while in the original Orlok only meets Ellen later on.

However, both films do a superb job at creating an impending sense of doom and unease as Orlok works to get what he wants. Even though Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror is a silent movie, the shadow work and Count Orlok's design are still impressive today. Robert Eggers' remake is also moody, feels oppressive and has excellent performances to justify the story changes. Both are spooky masterpieces and both are very much worth your time.

The Invisible Man

Unlike the other entries on this list, Leigh Whannell's 2020 movie The Invisible Man is not strictly a remake of the 1933 original, but both are based on H.G. Wells’ sci-fi classic of the same name. While the 1933 movie faithfully adapts the original story, following a crazed chemist who finds a drug that can turn him invisible, the 2020 version brings the tale into the modern age. The contemporary adaptation swaps out the mad scientist for a very rich and egotistical tech boss who uses his latest invention to torment his girlfriend.

The original movie is a classic and a must-watch if you want to reunite with one of the Universal Monsters this Halloween. However, the newer feature focuses on very current issues such as the dangers of modern technology, domestic abuse, and stalking. Watching Elisabeth Moss being chased around by her invisible ex-boyfriend while everyone around her thinks she is going crazy will fill you with dread, but the payoff is so worth it.

Marvel's next TV show has finally arrived. VisionQuest, the final installment in the trilogy that began with WandaVision, catches us back up with our favorite synthezoid after his unconventional resurrection as White Vision.

Paul Bettany returns as Vision, while James Spader is back as Ultron (this time, he even has a human guise). The show also features the debut of Ruaridh Mollica as Tommy Shepherd, AKA Speed.

This is the last MCU release before the mega event Avengers: Doomsday arrives later this year, so it's well worth getting up to date. The first two episodes are streaming now. You can check out our VisionQuest release schedule to keep track of the rest of the season.

Crystal Lake

In this prequel to the Friday the 13th franchise, Linda Cardellini plays Pamela Vorhees, mother of Jason Voorhees (played by Callum Vinson). Pamela is the villain of the first slasher movie, and this show, which hails from A24, is an origin story for her.

"There are ideas we have potentially for a second season that maybe we were playing around with as part of the first season," writer/director Brad Caleb Kane recently told GamesRadar+. "But it felt like it needed to be compact to tell one story. So we'll save those."

Tenzing

Tenzing tells the true story of Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary, who in 1953 became the first climbers to reach the summit of Mount Everest, the world's tallest mountain.

Genden Phuntsok plays Norgay, with Marvel veteran Tom Hiddleston as Hillary. The rest of the cast includes Caitríona Balfe and Willem Dafoe. Jennifer Peedom directs.

Sacrifice

This star-studded action comedy follows an actor who is taken hostage by a cult during a charity gala.

Chris Evans stars as the beleaguered actor, with the rest of the cast including Anya Taylor-Joy, Salma Hayek, Vincent Cassel, John Malkovich, and Charli xcx.

The film is not currently available on Netflix in the UK, however it's streaming in the US from October 16.

Love of Your Life

Spider-Noir star Nicolas Cage says he didn't sign an AI waiver for his Prime Video superhero show.

Cage played Ben Reilly in the show, which was released earlier in the year and will not be returning for a second season.

"How do you survive AI? Amazon is a very AI-friendly company, to the tune of 50 billion dollars invested to OpenAI," Cage commented at NYCC, via The Hollywood Reporter. "I am not an AI-friendly actor... I didn't sign the waiver to let them use AI on Spider-Noir. It's kind of like I'm probably not going to be working with that studio again. But that's OK. So I got to get with these young directors who are Gen Z, and they're going at it their own way, whether it's through the YouTube culture or whatever it is. They're doing it from scratch and by hand. I want to get with that."

While Cage says he likely won't work with Amazon again as a consequence of his anti-AI stance, no official reason for the cancellation has been revealed – though a report from Deadline indicates Spider-Noir's viewership was good, but not massive.

"For me, one season is perfect, having said what I wanted to say with this dangerous, innovative, pop-art Spider-Man," Cage said in response to the cancellation. "Onwards, upwards, inwards."

Spider-Noir was well-received critically, netting a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score of 92%. Our own Spider-Noir review awards the show 3.5 stars and reads: "A delightfully camp, low-stakes romp through 1930s New York City that proves Nicolas Cage is still cooler than all of us. Though it doesn't feel as big as most Marvel shows, or even Spider-Verse, and suffers from predictable plot turns that even the characters don't seem fazed by... it wants to cure your superhero fatigue, and it's even better on the second watch."

The new trailer for Prime Video’s Blade Runner 2099 is out, exploring the world 50 years after Blade Runner 2049, and things look bad for us humans, folks. Like, really bad.

After a war between replicants and humanity left us as the losing side, the world is now dominated by the victors. Now free from their former masters, replicants are changing the world for the better, but in doing so, questioning their own existence and whether it has the potential to reach a godlike status.

One thing that could interrupt that discovery is Cora (Hunter Schafer), one of the last remaining humans, posing as a Blade Runner and being closely monitored by Michelle Yeoh's Olwen, who is in the last week of her life. It’s too bad she won’t live, but then again, who does?

At NYCC this weekend, showrunner Silka Luisa discussed the new show's connection to the original film (via Rotten Tomatoes). “The first film, something I loved about it, was that it was looking at mortality on a micro level. Roy Batty and the other replicants were fighting for more life. This show asks the same question but on a macro level. Mankind, what happens when we realize our time is running out, and are we going to accept that loss? Can we hold onto our humanity during it?”

It is no secret that King's works have inspired some of the best movies in the genre and have created horror icons such as IT the Clown and bloody Carrie. Who knows, this list may just inspire your 2026 Halloween costume. But with so many titles to choose from, we put our best horror heads together and selected five movies that are sure to put a scream in your Halloween.

Carrie

There is no better time to dive back into Brian De Palma's 1976 movie Carrie. Stephen King's 1974 novel has been adapted many times over the years, but the '70s flick is the most loyal Carrie adaptation out there. The movie follows social outcast Carrie White, who is severely bullied at school and controlled by her hyper-strict mother at home. But when Carrie is pushed too far, she uses her telekinetic powers to seek revenge on her tormentors. Sissy Spacek portrayal of Carrie is unforgettable, and her piercing eyes shining through the blood dripping down her face is enough to give you nightmares.

Thanks to De Palma's take releasing just two years after King's story hit shelves, the movie puts us right into the setting and era in which the author intended. However, once you're done with the original, click over to Prime Video and stream Mike Flanagan's new Carrie TV show. The series brings Carrie into the modern age, where she not only has to deal with bitchy teenage girl hurling tampons at her head, but her torment continues on social media too. Perhaps the most horrific detail is the fact that bullying seems to have only gotten worse in the 50 years since Carrie was released.

The Shining

Where to watch: HBO Max

The Shining, directed by Stanley Kubrick, is one of the best horror movies ever made and while King himself notoriously isn't a fan of it, it's hands down the greatest movie based on all of his works. If you need a quick summary, the film follows Jack Torrance and his family moving to the Overlook Hotel as Jack takes on the role of its caretaker. However, the hotel is haunted by its dark history, and soon Jack's sanity is pushed to the brink, resulting in pure tension and some incredibly scary moments.

Not only is The Shining incredibly unnerving, but it is a masterclass in filmmaking. Every shot of this film is moody and could be a painting, the acting is superb, the set design captures the dreamy and otherworldly feeling of the Overlook Hotel, and on top of all that, there is still an empathetic emotional core with its characters where you want them to survive, and Jack's insanity hits you like an axe shattering a bathroom door. Loads of films have tried to imitate The Shining, but none have succeeded. The film is singular and a must-watch for Halloween season.

IT

Available: US/UK
Where to watch: HBO Max

The 2017 adaptation of King's novel IT is now on streaming, and it is a great choice for horror fans looking for a spooky flick to watch this season. Directed by Andy Muschietti, the film follows a group of young kids (dubbed The Losers' Club) who soon uncover a horrific truth about a hungry monster in their town, disguising itself as a clown called Pennywise. The film does an expert job of showing the psychological terror that Pennywise inflicts on its victims with bone-chilling scenes and some smartly placed jumpscare moments.

Bill Skarsgård really did a phenomenal job in his portrayal as the monster, and it's easy to see why this movie has become a modern classic. I will say, though, that this isn't the only IT-related thing on streaming. The 2019 sequel It Chapter Two is also on HBO Max, and I'll also mention that the 1990 IT miniseries starring Tim Curry as the murderous clown is streaming on HBO Max in the US. However, UK readers can only currently rent the '90s IT series, so keep that in mind before you tuck in for all the Derry carnage.

Misery

Misery may be one of Stephen King's simpler stories, compared to the one-thousand-page-plus brick of a book IT, but Rob Reiner's 1990 adaptation holds up to any other title on this list. Starring Kathy Bates as the formidable Annie Wilkes, the film finds novelist Paul Sheldon fighting for his life when his car overturns during a blizzard. But lucky for Paul, his number one fan is there to save him and nurse him back to health in her eccentric little home. The only issue is, his saviour Wilkes has a few screws loose, and refuses to let him go until he finishes his book series just the way she wants.

Unlike many crazed stalker movies, Misery doesn't rely on overarching gore or sexploitation (or bunny boiling, for that matter). Bates' unnerving portrayal of Wilkes is enough to put you on the edge of your seat. I don't think I have ever been so stressed out watching someone move a tiny glass animal one inch to the left. Oh, but don't worry, there is one shocking scene that will make you wince. It is no surprise that Bates took home the Oscar for best actress at the 1991 Academy Awards, and the horror genre finally got the attention it deserves. Now, I'm wondering how I can get Flanagan to make a Misery series next.

Gerald's Game

This one may have slipped under your radar, as Gerald's Game didn't make it to the big screen back in 2017, but was released by Netflix instead. Adapted from King's 1992 novel of the same name, the movie follows Carla Gugino and Bruce Greenwood as a married couple named Jessie and Gerald, who get away to an isolated cabin for the weekend in the hopes of adding a little bit of spice to their dwindling marriage. But just as Gerald handcuffs his wife to the bed, he drops dead, leaving Jessie trapped in a house far away from any help.

You may be wondering how a movie about a woman, alone, strapped to a bed, can be so terrifying, but Jessie soon starts to experience intense cabin fever, not being able to decipher what is real or what is in her head. The Haunting of Hill House star Gugino's portrayal of Jessie is heartbreaking, as the experience takes her back to some of the darkest stages of her life when she was abused by those in her life who should have protected her. Oh, and on top of all of that, there is also a terrifying figure lurking in the shadows, providing one of the creepiest jump scares in director Mike Flanagan's catalogue.

Horror maestro Mike Flanagan is starting things off nicely too with a new adaptation of Stephen King's Carrie for Prime Video. Set in the modern day, this reimagines the horror heroine as a teenager struggling in a world of social media. Nothing scarier, right?

Carrie

The classic tale gets a new spin in Prime Video's Carrie. Created by Mike Flanagan, the new eight-part drama tells the story of Carrie White, a sheltered young girl who has spent most of her life at home with her controlling mother and father. When she ends up at high school, she's thrown to the wolves when she's caught up in a cycle of bullying centered around social media. However, when Carrie is pushed to her limits, she realizes that she might have some powers of her own to fight back with.

Josh Hartnett might be making headlines for his role in Verity, which has just hit theaters, but he's also got a new Netflix show to enjoy as well. Something's in the water in this chilling new series set in Newfoundland. Hartnett plays a sailor dealing with a mysterious iceberg that's rolled into the nearby waters as sightings of a terrifying monster begin to take over the town. Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton also stars in this limited series, which is a perfect choice if you're up for some scares.

Avatar: Seven Havens

Return to the world of Avatar with new animated series Avatar: Seven Havens. From creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the show is set in the same world as Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. It follows a young Earthbender called Pavi who discovers she is the new Avatar. Searching for answers and trying to come to terms with her powers, she's joined by her long-lost twin Nisha as the pair try to save the Seven Havens.

The first three episodes are available to stream now, with three new episodes releasing each week on Paramount Plus.

Matchbox: The Movie

Mattel is returning with another feature-length story following the success of Barbie. This time it's Matchbox vehicle toys that are the focal point in the new movie directed by stunt legend Sam Hargrave. It stars John Cena as spy and former soldier Sean Walker, who lands himself in a sticky situation when the CIA thinks he and his friends stole a nuclear weapon.

Directed by and starring Ben Affleck, Animals is a new thriller movie that sees a couple deal with a horrific situation when their son is kidnapped. He plays a LA mayoral candidate in the new film opposite Kerry Washington as his wife. Gillian Anderson's Dayle Burton is the mastermind behind the crime as she blackmails the couple to come up with a ransom payment in time to save their son. Steven Yeun, Ray Fisher, and Adriana Paz all also star in the twisty drama.

Mike Flanagan's Carrie TV show has hit Prime Video in full, but its cliffhanger ending has fans thinking that a season 2 may be on the horizon. However, although Flangan admits to leaving the story open-ended, he did it mainly to honor Carrie White.

Warning, the following contains spoilers for the new Carrie series, so make sure you are all caught up before reading on. But first, check out our Carrie review first.

"As far as whether it could lead to something else down the line, my priority was always to get to the last frame of this season and honor the character and honor the arc and show the tip of the iceberg of that bigger world," said Flanagan to ScreenRant.

Based on Stephen King's hit horror novel, the show follows social outcast Carrie White with telekinetic powers. The show makes a lot of changes to King's original story, such as its modern setting, the focus on social media, and the fact that Carrie is alive at the end of the series, even though she dies in the book. You can read more about that in our Carrie ending explained. But Flanagan also adds a stack of mystery characters led by Kate Siegel, who we are never really properly introduced to.

Well, those women could be the focus of a possible Carrie season 2. "I do think there's a ton of potential for more, especially with those characters," adds Flanagan. "I think there are so many of those women who we meet, especially in 7 and 8, who I would love to know a lot more about. So I hope so, but I'm just worried about surviving season 1. We'll see how it's received."

Although Prime Video has yet to renew the horror show, Flanagan has previously shared wishes to make a Carrie trilogy. It also sounds like Carrie star Summer H. Howell is keen to return to the character and see her interact with other super-abled women.

"That'll be fun for the viewers and me to just get to see so many more women represented, and these powers are fun to play with," said Howell. "I hope she can also come back to the lighter version of herself, how she went into school with her openness and her eagerness for the world and exploring."

Unlike other actors in past Carrie adaptations, Matthew Lillard and Amber Midthunder aren't too pressed about the fate of their characters in Mike Flanagan's new version of the 1974 Stephen King story.

Warning: spoilers for Carrie episode 8 ahead!

"First and foremost, in Mike Flanagan, we trust," Lillard tells GamesRadar+. "Like, if you ask him, he will have a reason. But I do think that it lends to the tragedy. [Carrie] is so overwhelmed. If you would think she could make choices, we probably would have lived. But she loses her control, which brings ultimate destruction of the entire town."

Lillard plays Henry Grayle, Ewen High's well-meaning principal who finds himself a bit in over his head when Carrie White becomes the new kid at school. Grayle soon realizes that Margaret White is no ordinary mother, and that Chris Hargensen is no ordinary teenage bully.

In the book, Grayle does not attend prom but presumably retires from education following the massacre. In the 1976 movie, Grayle (renamed Principal Morton) is electrocuted on stage at prom. He suffers the same fate in the 2002 remake. In Flanagan's version, the electrocution scene is quite long, and somehow way worse than the original film depiction (in my opinion, anyway).

"And I do think that it's sort of... not a morality tale, but it's a tipping point," Lillard continues. "And you can see how kids can possibly break. And also, it could become an allegory for what's happening with gun violence, what happens to kids, like they just can no longer stand what happens. And so I don't know, it really refers to a bigger moment."

Midthunder plays Rita Desjardin, the gym teacher who seems to be the only person looking out for Carrie. In the novel, she retires from education altogether after surviving the prom night massacre and suffers immense guilt from not being able to prevent it. In the 1976 movie, she's smashed to death by Carrie with a broken rafter after pushing Tommy out of the way of danger during the prom massacre. She survives the 2002 remake, as well as the 2012 remake.

In Flanagan's version, Rita is knocked backwards into the burning gymnasium after calling out Carrie's name in the middle of the chaos. We don't see her die, but we don't see her again after this.

"I like that we also see, like, not just that moment, but moments before that when Carrie sort of, she struggles with herself, and she struggles with sort of her power, right?" says Midthunder. "And we see her have guilt. Like this story, this iteration of Carrie has expanded. And in that, we get to spend so much time with so many of these characters, Carrie included. And I think you see everybody in a very different and detailed and humanized sort of way that makes the sort of picking, like who's good and who's bad and who are you rooting for, a lot more difficult."

Adds Midthunder: "And obviously that is credited to Mike, who approached this so thoughtfully and wanted to be so honest to obviously loyal to the Stephen King fans, but also to kids today. I think he really cared about sort of making sure that everybody felt seen."

Mike Flanagan says he opted to skip the infamous pig slaughtering scene in his adaptation of Carrie.

"Yeah, I didn't have much of a stomach to watch the pig get slaughtered," Flanagan tells GamesRadar+. "There's so much cruelty in the show, but it was also seeing the lack of horror on Chris's face that became more horrific to me. And seeing how far down that road she'd gone and her kind of fascination with that. Yeah, that was how we decided to approach it. I just felt like we've endured so much and are still going to endure so much on the show that to kind of hold an audience's face to the slaughter of the pig was..." he suggests, trailing off. "Plus, I just love how Alison played that."

In the 1974 novel, it's described, though not in explicit detail, that Chris Hargensen and her delinquent sociopath boyfriend Billy Thornton decide to break into a farm while the farmer is away and slaughter a pig for its blood. Why? So they can dump it onto Carrie White's head when she's announced as prom queen. In the 1976 movie, we see Billy (John Travolta) and Chris (Nancy Allen) excitedly kill the pig as it squeals to death.

In Flanagan's TV adaptation, however, the pig slaughtering is done off-screen during a pre-prom montage while an excited yet unfazed Chris looks on. Not to be that guy, but because Flanagan does have a bit of a history with dead animals in his TV shows (i.e., the dog in Midnight Mass and the kittens in The Haunting of Hill House), I kind of expected him to go all out with this one, especially since the pig scene is double-canon. However, he's right: the cruelty from all the human beings around Carrie is intense enough.

Thought the Blade Runner timeline was as simple as two movies and an anime TV series? Think again! The world that started in Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and was adapted to the screen by Ridley Scott in 1982's Blade Runner, has expanded to include a whole lot more than just that. For starters, there are comics, games, live-action shorts, and the upcoming Amazon series Blade Runner 2099. Then there are non-canon books, VR adventures, and even a tabletop role-playing game.

Before we unspool the Blade Runner timeline below, it’s worth noting a few things. First, we will focus primarily on the franchise's on-screen outings, along with the major comic-book stories released by Titan Comics and Alcon Publishing (Alcon Entertainment being the franchise's proprietors).

We've decided to leave out the Alcon-licensed video game from 1997 (it has multiple endings; characters can be both human and replicants), two of the minor VR games, as well as the tabletop game and original book sequels – written by K.W. Jeter and released in the '90s and '00s, as these no longer fit with modern canon. They are moments lost in time. Like tears in the rain…

Blade Runner Timeline: Chronological Order

2009 – Blade Runner Origins (Comic)

Release date: 2021-22

As the title implies, Blade Runner: Origins tells the story of the very first Blade Runner, AKA the guys who hunt down rogue replicants – replicants being bioengineered humans, indistinguishable from normal people except they can be extremely strong and intelligent.

Cal Moreaux is an LAPD detective tasked with investigating the apparent suicide of Lydia Kine, a scientist working for the Tyrell Corporation, the company best known for selling the enhanced humanoid slaves known as replicants.

Across Origins' 12-issue run, Cal becomes caught up in an emerging replicant uprising and discovers an unsettling link between his investigation and his own sister, Nia. It's a surprising, twisty story that ultimately leads to the formation of the Blade Runner division, with Cal as its first member. Cal also later appears in Blade Runner 2039.

2015 – Blade Runner: Tokyo Nexus (Comic)

Release date: 2024-ongoing

The first Blade Runner story set in Asia, Tokyo Nexus focuses primarily on the human Mead and her best friend, the replicant Stix, two survivors of a doomed off-world military mission. Back on Earth and now working as unlicensed private detectives, they juggle a missing persons case with searching for the person who betrayed their squad. Their investigation soon sees the duo embroiled in a patent war between multiple Yakuza clans, the Tyrell Corporation, and Cheshire, a company developing bootleg replicants.

Two volumes of Tokyo Nexus have been released so far – Die in Peace and To Lose is to Win – with a third, Die With Honor, starting November 4, 2026.

2019 – Blade Runner (Film)

Release date: 1982

One of the greatest science fiction movies of all time, Ridley Scott's movie set the tone for everything that followed in the Blade Runner universe. It centers on Rick Deckard (famously played by Harrison Ford), a Blade Runner tasked with hunting down four advanced replicants, led by Roy Batty, who have illegally returned to Earth hoping to extend their deliberately short four-year lifespans by forcing Eldon Tyrell – founder of the pesky Tyrell Corporation – to help them.

During the investigation, Deckard's replicant-hunting skills are tested by Tyrell, who makes Deckard do a Voight-Kampff empathy test on Rachael, a replicant who believes she's human. But, twist! They end up falling in love. Meanwhile, Batty eventually gets to Tyrell, who cannot help Batty, leading to the replicant crushing Tyrell's head. With his life reaching its inevitable end, Batty delivers the famous "tears in the rain" monologue.

For anyone revisiting this classic, make sure to watch the Final Cut, as its ending is Scott's preferred one and leaves us with the eternal question: is Deckard actually a replicant?

Bonus! The 1997 point-and-click adventure, also titled Blade Runner, takes place concurrently with the movie and tells the story of Ray McCoy, an officer charged with hunting down a group of replicants who murder animals. This is a huge crime, as nearly all animals are extinct in the world of Blade Runner.

McCoy interacts with a couple of characters from the movie, including cameos from Sean Young's Rachael and Joe Turkel's Dr. Eldon Tyrell, voiced by the original cast. Deckard also makes an appearance, though he's seen and not heard. There are 13 different endings, depending on actions in the game, with McCoy potentially being either a replicant or human.

2019 – Blade Runner 2019 (Comic)

Release date: 2019-20

Blade Runner 2019 is the first instalment in a trilogy of comics focusing on Aahna 'Ash' Ashina, the first female Blade Runner. She's hired by wealthy industrialist Alexander Selwyn to find his missing wife, Isobel, and young daughter, Cleo, with the investigation eventually taking Ash from the streets of Los Angeles to the off-world colonies.

Things become complicated when Ash discovers Isobel is actually a replicant copy of Cleo's mother. The case forces Ash to question her attitude towards replicants, beginning a story that continues ten years later in Blade Runner 2029 and concludes with Blade Runner 2039.

2022 – Blade Runner Black Out 2022 (Anime Short)

Release date: 2017

Released shortly before Blade Runner 2049 as a way to tee up the long-awaited sequel, Black Out 2022 is a 15-minute anime directed by Cowboy Bebop creator Shinichirō Watanabe. Replicants no longer have four-year lifespans, which, in turn, leads to growing anti-replicant sentiment and the creation of a database identifying every replicant on Earth.

Two replicants, Iggy Cygnus and Trixie, along with human sympathiser Ren Dus, decide to destroy that database by detonating a nuclear warhead above Los Angeles, creating an electromagnetic pulse capable of wiping out all electronic records across the West Coast. Their plan succeeds (though Trixie dies), and the resulting blackout becomes one of the defining events in Blade Runner history: replicant production becomes prohibited, huge amounts of data are lost, and the Tyrell Corporation collapses, its assets eventually bought by the Wallace Corporation, who we'll be hearing a lot more from…

2023 – Blade Runner: Revelations (Daydream VR Game)

Release date: 2018

There are, in fact, three VR games set in the Blade Runner universe, but the other two are relatively inconsequential tie-ins to Blade Runner 2049; Revelations is a little more substantial. It follows Harper, a veteran Blade Runner investigating the increasingly violent conflict between humans and replicants. The Replicant Underground – a group fighting for replicant rights – has gone on the offensive, while Blade Runners have been ordered to hunt down its members and allies. This is also when the new law is proposed, banning the manufacture of replicants altogether.

Harper's investigation leads him to Night Owl, a secret viral pathogen developed by Eldon Tyrell, designed as a failsafe that could wipe out all replicants, should they take over. The story branches depending on the player's decisions, eventually allowing Harper to either side with the authorities or help the Replicant Underground. Even with multiple endings, though, the VR game explores a lot of seriously important lore – it wouldn't be a surprise if the replicant-killing Night Owl reappeared at some point in the future.

2029 – Blade Runner 2029 (Comic)

Release date: 2020-22

The second part of Ash's trilogy finds the Blade Runner no longer exclusively hunting replicants but secretly helping them escape captivity, too. Things get complicated when Ash encounters Yotun, an older replicant version who survived far beyond his intended four-year lifespan by taking blood transfusions from other replicants. He seeks to extend his life further by discovering the secret to longer life that he – like Roy Batty – believes Eldon Tyrell was hiding. Yotun is also gathering other replicants around him and launches an uprising against their human oppressors.

Eventually, Ash's double life as Blade Runner and replicant-sympathiser is discovered, while Yotun learns that Tyrell’s supposed secret is not the answer to immortality he hoped for. The story also features Freysa, Ash's replicant lover and leader of the Replicant Underground, a group demanding replicants get equal rights. An older Freysa, who has one eye, is played by Hiam Abbass in Blade Runner 2049.

2032 – Blade Runner: Black Lotus (Anime Series)

Release date: 2021–22

This Crunchyroll/Adult Swim collaboration follows Elle, an amnesiac woman with deadly fighting skills, a black lotus tattoo, and a desire to remember who she was. She soon discovers that she's actually a replicant previously hunted for sport by humans, and sets out to get revenge on those who wronged her.

Elle finds herself embroiled in a conspiracy involving the Wallace Corporation, the replicant-creating successor to the Tyrell Corporation. Turns out, she was actually created by Niander Wallace Jr. (later played by Jared Leto on screen) to assassinate his father, Niander Wallace Sr., after plans are put in motion to sell the company's replicant-making facilities, as these have become redundant following the replicant production ban. Wallace Jr. can't let that happen; he wants to create a new generation of replicants that can one day replace humanity. Elle eventually kills Wallace Sr., and later blinds Wallace Jr.

2032 – Blade Runner: Black Lotus: Leaving L.A. & Las Vegas (Comic)

Release dates: 2022-26

Elle's story continues in two comic-book sequels to Black Lotus. Leaving L.A. picks up immediately after the anime, with Elle fleeing Los Angeles on a homemade Spinner-bike as she's still wanted for murder by the LAPD. Her journey takes her to a remote industrial community, where she becomes caught up in a conflict between rival factions.

Las Vegas continues Elle's story as she travels to the irradiated ruins of Sin City, which was abandoned following the detonation of a dirty bomb. There, she discovers communities of former casino replicants who have created their own strange society based around ancient Egyptian and Roman royalty. Unfortunately for Elle, Niander Wallace Jr. is out for revenge and sends a squad of mercenaries after her. Elle ultimately escapes and ventures beneath Las Vegas, where she discovers an underground community of replicants who welcome her into their ranks.

Bonus! The game Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth was set one year after the events of Black Lotus, and would have dealt with the fallout of the blackout. Annapurna Interactive was developing the game, and a trailer was released in 2023. However, it has been canceled.

2036 – 2036: Nexus Dawn (Live-Action Short)

Release date: 2017

For a six-minute short (directed by Luke Scott, son of Ridley), 2036: Nexus Dawn packs a lot in. A blinded Niander Wallace Jr. (Jared Leto) attempts to overturn the prohibition on replicant production. Appearing before a group of lawmakers, Wallace argues that humanity needs replicant labour to survive and expand beyond Earth, and introduces his latest creation: the next evolution of the replicant, designed to obey humans completely. Wallace demonstrates this by ordering one to choose between Wallace's life and its own; the replicant cuts its own throat. The demonstration helps pave the way for the return of legal replicant production.

Bonus! Blade Runner: The Roleplaying Game, the tabletop game, takes place in 2037 and begins shortly after Wallace's new replicant models have gone public, giving players the choice of being either human or replicant Blade Runners. There are a few story-based case files, which center mainly around the Wallace Corporation's replicant-making antics.

2039 – Blade Runner 2039 (Comic)

Release date: 2022-24

The final part of Ash's trilogy. Cleo Selwyn returns to Los Angeles in search of the replicant copy of her dead mother, Isobel. Cleo turns to an ageing Ash for help, but their search puts them in the sights of Niander Wallace, who believes Cleo's family may hold the key to replicant fertility.

Wallace sends the advanced replicant Luv (later played by Sylvia Hoeks in Blade Runner 2049) after Cleo. Ash eventually gets her hands on the research conducted by Cleo’s father, Alexander Selwyn, into replicant reproduction and makes a deal with Wallace: he gets the research if he leaves Cleo and Isobel alone. He agrees: Cleo and Isobel escape off-world, while a terminally ill Ash decides to spend the rest of her days with her partner, Freysa.

2048 – 2048: Nowhere to Run (Live-Action Short)

Release date: 2017

The second live-action prequel short to Blade Runner 2049, again directed by Luke Scott, Nowhere to Run focuses on Sapper Morton, played by Dave Bautista. He makes a living selling the leeches he farms and befriends a young girl named Ella while on a trip to town.

Things go wrong when Sapper saves Ella and her mother from a group of thugs, brutally killing several of them and, in the process, revealing his superhuman strength – and that he's a replicant. As he leaves, Sapper accidentally drops papers containing his address. These are reported to the LAPD, directly setting up Blade Runner 2049's opening sequence.

2049 – Blade Runner 2049 (Film)

Release date: 2017

The long-awaited sequel. Denis Villeneuve's modern masterpiece follows K (Ryan Gosling), an advanced replicant, working as a Blade Runner, hunting down older, non-obedient replicants. While retiring Bautista's Sapper, K discovers the remains of a female replicant who died giving birth – something previously thought impossible. That replicant turns out to be Rachael, who had a child with Rick Deckard after the events of the original movie.

K is ordered to find and kill the child, yet Niander Wallace Jr. wants the child for very different reasons; his replicant creations are still unable to reproduce, and he believes discovering how Rachael became pregnant could allow him to manufacture replicants on the scale needed to expand humanity throughout the stars.

The investigation leads K to Harrison Ford's ageing Deckard, who has spent decades in hiding. Eventually, Deckard's child is found: Dr. Ana Stelline, a memory designer whose own childhood memories were implanted into K. After killing Wallace's replicant enforcer Luv, a mortally wounded K reunites Deckard with his daughter.

2099 – Blade Runner 2099 (TV Show)

Release date: November 25, 2026

Amazon's upcoming limited series takes us 50 years into the future – a period so far completely unexplored. In those intervening years, replicants have usurped humans after some sort of war, the story picking up with Hunter Schafer's Cora, a human pretending to be a replicant. She teams up with Michelle Yeoh's Olwen, a replicant Blade Runner coming to the end of her life, to hunt down a group of rogue replicants.

That's about all we know about the series, created by Silka Luisa, the showrunner behind Apple's Shining Girls. All eight episodes are releasing in one batch, so expect the Blade Runner timeline to be rocked come November.

When adapting the 1974 Stephen King story for the digital age, Mike Flanagan says it was important to go all in on how social media and cell phones would only add to the cruelty Carrie faces at the hands of her bullies.

"Yeah, we talked a lot about how it changed when there were phones in people's hands, that scene especially. And in every other version, that's the first scene," Flanagan tells GamesRadar+. "And so one of the first things we kind of started to play with was, I think that's the end of the pilot, and I think we're gonna walk us into that. It's so tough to even imagine doing any story, any serious story about the modern teenage experience without engaging with the topic of social media because it is so ingrained in their day-to-day lives."

In the trailer for Carrie, we see the infamous scene – where Carrie gets her first period but has no idea what menstruation is, so she naturally believes she's dying. Instead of helping her, the girls in her gym class pelt her with sanitary napkins and tampons. In Flanagan's version of the story, the year is 2025... and the girls whip out their cell phones and film the ordeal, in addition to throwing things at her. It's a hard watch, but Flanagan says it was necessary.

"And the normalization of cruelty that comes with that was something that we really, really felt like we needed to talk about," Flanagan continues. "But yeah, it broke open a lot of things for us. I think that's one of the things I'm so impressed with about today's teenagers: I wouldn't have had the fortitude to survive.

I barely survived high school as it was. That was in the '90s. We didn't have to worry about any of this stuff. And I thought I was barely holding on by my fingernails. You know, I was a bullied kid too."

The new series sees Carrie White (Summer H. Howell), homeschooled until her teen years, begin public school for the first time. The story plays out the way we all know and love it, but the addition of social media makes it that much worse. In fact, it adds to the horror aspect in a way you would never expect. I challenge you to get through this series without crying.

The cast includes Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Amber Midthunder as Rita Desjardins, and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle.

"I can't even fathom if I would have had to go to school daily," adds Flanagan. "And contend with all of my torments, all of my mistakes, all of my growing moments being potentially captured and shared for the world forever. I don't know how they do it. So I came out of it amazed with the fortitude of today's teenagers. Nothing but respect."

Stephen King took to Threads to praise Flanagan's modern-day adaptation, saying, "Mike Flanagan's version of CARRIE is brilliant. What it has to say about social media is shocking and true." You'll just have to see for yourself.

Summer H. Howell and Samantha Sloyan play a version of Carrie and Margaret White that we've never seen before in Mike Flanagan's upcoming take on the 1974 novel by Stephen King.

"I don't know if I was surprised," Howell tells GamesRadar+ when asked if the changes to the original story shocked her. "I mean, I hadn't really heard of Carrie before, which I know, shocking. I've worked in horror since I was eight, so you'd think I would've, but no. So I kinda went into it knowing it had been made, asking, 'Why are we doing it again?' like everybody. But then reading the scenes and the scripts and seeing the humanity that Mike writes into these characters is just beautiful, and it made me want to be her so bad."

We all know the story: a bullied teenage girl named Carrie White has an abusive mother, a terrible time at school, and secret telekinetic powers. When Carrie kills her classmates after they outright humiliate her at prom, she ends up killing her mother in the process.

Flanagan's story (though we won't tell you how it ends) depicts Carrie and Margaret's relationship in a way that is much more humane and believable (not that abusive dynamics between parents and children are uncommon or unbelievable). Margaret still has no idea how to love Carrie, but she does know that she loves her. Her fundamentalist Christian ways, which include sentencing Carrie to the prayer closet instead of listening to her troubles, still get in the way of their relationship... but this version of Margaret is much more fleshed out, and it might make you cry (and this is coming from someone who started sobbing around 26 minutes into episode 1).

"When he talked to me about it, that was the first thing that he said. He's like, this isn't the Margaret White that you recognize. They love each other," Sloyan says. "And so that was so exciting because, one, it just freed me up to not have to compete with those performances and to, I think, give her so much more dimension because if we're doing it for 8 episodes, you really have so much more to explore. Once Summer and I met each other, I think that even deepened the connection more because we were able to bring, you know, the relationship that we truly have to the characters, which just gave it even more depth."

Keep in mind that King himself is a fan of the changes, writing on Threads: "Mike Flanagan's version of CARRIE is brilliant. What it has to say about social media is shocking and true." At a special WGA event attended by GamesRadar+, Flanagan noted that King isn't always a fan of drastic changes to his work... and we don't blame him. It's worth noting that the social media comment applies to Carrie and Margaret's relationship... and it may shock you.

Fallout season 3 is slated to hit Prime Video next spring or summer, says star Kyle MacLachlan.

"We're still shooting away," MacLachlan told a fan during a signing for his new memoir. "We've got about a month or so to go... and then probably come out maybe May or June."

The third (and hopefully not final) season of the hit Prime Video show started filming in May 2026, five or so months after season 2's December-January run. There hasn't been much news in the meantime, aside from Aaron Paul (who spoke out several times about his desire to appear on the show) being added to the cast. Paul joins the newly promoted Annabel O’Hagan and Dave Register, who play Vault dwellers Steph and Chet, respectively.

We weren't sure of Hank's fate after the season 2 finale, so we're glad MacLachlan confirmed that he will indeed be back. In what capacity...we're not sure. Now that his mind has essentially been erased, his character could go in any direction. We do think, however, that we'll see a lot more flashbacks from before the bombs dropped (especially now that we know how his character is connected to Steph).

The new season also partially takes place in Colorado, which is a location that has not yet been visited in the games. I'm ready to see some mutated moose.

East of Eden

Florence Pugh stars in this fresh adaptation of John Steinbeck's seminal novel East of Eden. Pugh plays Cathy Ames, the complex woman at the heart of a tale that spans generations.

The novel was notably adapted into the 1955 film of the same name starring James Dean and directed by Elia Kazan, and it's Elia Kazan's granddaughter, Zoe Kazan, behind the new TV show.

East of Eden is set in Salinas, California, and it tells the story of the Trask family and the Hamilton family across decades. Cathy Ames is probably one of literature's most complicated and fascinating female characters, and this new adaptation puts the focus on her.

The film is based on an old creepypasta and is directed by Kane Parsons, with Renate Reinsve and Chiwetel Ejiofor starring.

The film explores the creepy, titular space between dimensions, and, if you're looking for a more unconventional scare this Halloween season, this is the place to go.

Mike Flanagan has shared his hopes that his new Amazon series will run for multiple seasons. The Haunting of Hill House director is helming a new adaptation of Stephen King's Carrie, and it seems like it will extend far beyond the original story.

Speaking to Collider recently, Flanagan said: "In my dream scenario. I think it’s three seasons. In my dream scenario, I think Carrie has a wonderful three-step arc. It’s a trilogy, really.”

The Amazon show will follow Summer H. Howell's Carrie White as she goes to high school after spending most of her life isolated at home. It's far from an easy transition for the young girl who must navigate intense bullying in a modern world of social media.

It's not clear how he plans to divide up the story at this point, especially given that early trailers for the show seem to suggest it's hitting the main story points. Could Flanagan leave Carrie's story open at the end of his adaptation, or is he planning to expand the story beyond Carrie?

It's not yet clear at the moment because Carrie only hits Prime Video on October 7, when all episodes of the show will be available. Early reactions to the first episodes have been very promising with many praising how it brings the story into a contemporary setting.

Even King himself is a big fan, writing on Threads: "Mike Flanagan's version of CARRIE is brilliant. What it has to say about social media is shocking and true."

Despite Spider-Noir's cancelation, Spider-Man is close to a streaming return at Amazon with an adaptation of one of the webhead's most controversial and divisive comic storylines.

As reported by Deadline, Prime Video could be the destination for a Clone Saga show.

For the uninitiated, the arc – which spanned multiple Spidey titles across the mid-1990s – featured the return of Ben Reilly, a clone of Peter Parker who tricked many into believing he was the real Peter Parker.

What followed was a convoluted, bloated mess of a comic run that brought in even more clones, sidelined Peter Parker for large periods, and was filled with nonsensical plot twists for multiple years. While it still has some fans, it's largely seen as a flawed diamond in the rough that has largely been ignored by comic continuity in the decades since.

The Clone Saga series will revolve around Reilly and Kaine Parker, a failed clone of Peter Parker. Deadline sources also say there could be "significant changes" to the adaptation. Tom Holland is also not expected to be involved.

As you can imagine, fans have chimed in to deliver their thoughts on Clone Saga potentially coming to TV screens. In short, some changes will be necessary for audiences to find it even remotely palatable.

"Terrible idea," one said on Reddit.

"I could be down for this if it’s animated. I just don’t see a way for it to work if it’s in live action," another wrote.

One Spider-Man fan concurred about turning it into an "animated take" on the Clone Saga, along with some other changes.

"Hopefully they use the revised version of the story. Look, I didn't hate the Clone Saga. It wasn't spectacular, but I didn't hate it," they said. "I just hope they don't shoehorn-in all the new Spider-People like Gwen and Miles."

Critic Martin Kessler responded to the news on Twitter, saying, "The Clone Saga doesn’t get the entire blame, but more than a good chunk of it, for the reason why I stayed away from superhero comics for about a decade."

So, with concerns and questions lingering – will Ben Reilly and Kaine Parker be played by the same actor? – there's plenty of trepidation for the Clone Saga. But Spider-Man's appeal is at an all-time high after Brand New Day's domestic box office records in the US.

Reacher season 6 has already been announced, just 12 days after the season 4 finale hit Prime Video. The show was only renewed for a fifth season earlier this year, but it seems the strong showing from the latest episodes has been enough to convince Prime Video to keep investing.

Per Deadline, Reacher season 4 brought in 66 million viewers during its first 28 days on Prime Video, which is higher than season 3. It also means that season 4 ranks among the five most-viewed seasons of any original series on Prime Video, which is quite a feat this far into a show.

Addressing the news, Head of Global Television Peter Friedlander said that "Reacher hits hard." He continued: "Alan Ritchson is Jack Reacher – he's delivered a performance that has captivated audiences around the world. Together with our partners at Paramount Television Studios, we couldn't be more excited to continue this journey. Reacher is a truly iconic series, and we're thrilled to be on the ride with this extraordinary cast and crew for season 6."

Reacher season 5 is currently in production with filming taking place in Toronto. Spin-off show Neagley has also recently hit Prime Video too, and has already been a hit with viewers.

Speaking to GamesRadar+, Neagley star Maria Stern opened up about how pleased she is that the series finally reveals her character's backstory. "I was very impressed with how they managed to weave in this very emotional story into this splashy action thriller show," she explained.

It's a movie-heavy week on our streaming recommendation list this weekend as several big new films hit the platforms. We've not only finally got the chance to see Toy Story 5 on the small screen but there are also two brand-new movies hitting Netflix and Prime Video that could not be more different.

As well as feature-length offerings, Apple TV has you covered on the comedy front with Brothers. The new mockumentary-style drama stars Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey as potential half-siblings in a fun sitcom take on the wild true story. Then over on HBO Max, Sharon Horgan's long-awaited return to TV hits HBO Max with Youth.

Brothers

The real story that inspired Apple TV's new comedy series is pretty wild. A few years ago, Matthew McConaughey's mother revealed that he had a relationship with Woody Harrelson's dad around the time when Matthew was conceived. While he hasn't taken a paternity test, this could mean that the two Hollywood stars and True Detective co-stars could be half brothers.

This new show takes this a step further as the pair decide to live together with their families at McConaughey's Texas ranch after Harrelson's daughter's wedding falls apart. Reviews have praised the chemistry between the two leads, calling it a charming watch. The first two episodes are out now with new ones released weekly.

The Love Hypothesis

Prime Video are continuing their run of rom-coms with The Love Hypothesis, a fake dating romance set at Stanford University. It follows Ph.D. candidate Olive Smith as she pretends to be dating professor Adam Carlsen in order to convince her best friend she no longer has feelings for their mutual friend. Carlsen agrees in order to improve his grumpy reputation at the college and help him secure funding for his grant by proving he's putting down roots in California.

The movie is a lot of fun with Tom Bateman and Lili Reinhart's chemistry as the lead couple selling the story. There's also a strange origin story too, which may pique your interest. The novel it's based on by Ali Hazelwood actually started life as an alternate university fanfiction about Kylo Ren and Rey from Star Wars. The connections don't stop there either as the leading man is actually played by Daisy Ridley's real-life husband in a fun link to the saga.

Youth

Sharon Horgan is back again with another new hilarious TV show. The brilliant mind behind Pulling, Catastrophe, and Bad Sisters has turned her hand to exploring dating in your 50s. Her character is divorcée navigating a new world of romance while also juggling a publishing career and a teenage son. Rupert Friend, Sharlene Whyte, and Aran Murphy all star alongside her as well as cameos from Harriet Walter, Freddie Fox, and Damian Lewis.

The first season has already landed a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score as well as critics have been calling it hilarious and vulnerable in equal measure. Two episodes are out now with new ones dropping every week on HBO Max.

Unabomber

Former child star Jacob Tremblay takes on his darkest role yet in the Netflix movie Unabomber. Directed by Janus Metz Pedersen, who has previously helmed episodes of Andor, the new film centers on the true story of Ted Kaczynski, a domestic terrorist who was active for 20 years through a nationwide mail bombing campaign in the United States.

The film flits between two timelines: Kaczynski's time at Harvard and his manhunt many years later. Alongside The Little Mermaid star Tremblay, Unabomber also stars Russell Crowe, Shailene Woodley, and Annabelle Wallis.

There's also our last bout with Alan Ritchson’s Reacher as his fourth season comes to an end and makes way for Neagley (Maria Sten) and her standalone show. There's also another top-tier do-or-die mission with season six of Slow Horses, who are back on Apple TV. Also, at some point the mayor of Widow's Bay is going to fight some skeletons. Stranger Things: Tales from '85 Season 2 (Netflix)

Following its initial and okay season that was released earlier this year, Stranger Things: Tales from '85 is back for another chapter, giving fans more adventures with the heroes of Hawkins in animated form. Aiming once again for a more family-friendly vision than the limb-ripping, bone-cracking antics of the live-action series, Stranger Things: Tales from '85 sees El, Max and pals getting up to more otherworldly antics that were frustratingly never mentioned in the parent show. In this case, a new breed of Demogorgon attacks our heroes, potentially from the afterlife.

Having already paid its respects to the Ghostbusters in season 2 of the original show, this season leans more into that area of the paranormal than ever before as a spooky version of Upside Down's inhabitants are on the attack. This forces El, her longtime pals, and '85-only era friend, Nikki Baxter (voiced by Odessa A'zion) to change tactics and figure out how to bust- uh, we mean bring down this Demogorgon once and for all. If you're a die-hard Stranger Things fan, you've probably already got this queued up. For those who wouldn’t mind their kids spending some time in Netflix's most popular franchise, then going back to '85 wouldn't be a bad idea, either.

Neagley and Reacher Season 4 finale (Prime Video)

Prime Video's henchman-crushing hero, Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson), has made his final stop of the season this week in the closing episode of Reacher season 4. There were laughs, there were tears, and there was Reacher taking on two lethal assassins in what felt like his own version of The Raid. It was also darn good television and further proof that Ritchson was born to play this role. The latest outing that spans eight episodes sees Reacher getting involved in a government cover-up after he witnesses the suicide of a passenger on a train. Having an issue with not letting people get away with things, the walking mountain that barely changes his T-shirt causes all manner of chaos and builds up a hefty body count while he's at it.

One person that’s noticeably absent from this season, however, is Reacher's longtime pal, Neagley, played by Maria Sten. That's because she's been busy on a case of her own in a brand-new spin-off series that's also out this week. The first season of Neagley can be binged all at once now and sees the cereal-loving hero on the hunt for her friend's murderer. This leads her to team up with a local detective and wander onto the shady turf of Echo Farms, where all manner of illegal activities are at play. It’s a great vehicle for Sten, who holds her own and has as much fight in her as her towering pal we know and love. If this is the beginning of the realm of Reacher expanding, then we're all for it.

Slow Horses season 6 (Apple TV)

You don't have to have intel from The Park to know that Slow Horses is easily one of the best shows on Apple TV. In fact, it might be one of the best shows on television, period. The Gary Oldman-led espionage series about a squad of spy screw-ups has remained consistently brilliant since it debuted in 2022, and in the sixth season, things keep improving. The staff of Slough House finds themselves in serious trouble when ex-employees wind up dead, and all fingers point to River Cartwright's own father, Frank Harkness (Hugo Weaving), being involved. From here, the Slow Horses are forced to split up, get reacquainted with some old allies, and do their very best to watch each other's backs before someone puts a bullet in them.

In a time when interest is waning for shows that have lengthy gaps between seasons, it really is baffling that Slow Horses continues to keep this level of quality six seasons in. The cold-hearted humor applied to this world of espionage doesn't falter, especially when it's delivered by Oldman's legendary Jackson Lamb, but the biggest surprise is just how dark things are this time around. Absolutely no one is safe, which only adds to the drama and the heart-wrenching dread that not all of Slough House's finest will make it out alive. Get stuck into the first episode of the new season this week.

Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw (Hulu)

Given that the final moments of Fast X teased the return of Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) to the franchise, what better way to fill some time while we wait for his return than watching the spin-off movie where he paired up with Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham). Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw was a commendable attempt to pump the brakes on the core franchise and veer into a spin-off with two of the best characters in the Fast and Furious saga. Hobbs and Shaw are forced to team up in this high-octane buddy comedy, where both characters defy the laws of physics and battle self-proclaimed Black Superman Brixton Lore (Idris Elba).

Joining them in on the globe-trotting action are a host of big names including Vanessa Kirby, Helen Mirren (reprising her role as Deckard’s mother, Queenie), Roman Reigns and Cluff Curtis. There are also cameos from Kevin Hart and Ryan Reynolds to add some extra star power in between things blowing up, and both leads show various ways to bring down small armies on their own. Get pumped up on the carnage and get excited about the prospect of Hobbs and maybe even Shaw, going back to work with the Toretto family whenever the final Fast and Furious movie leaves the garage.

Golden Axe (Paramount Plus)

If you’re desperate for more of Widow’s Bay star Matthew Rhys following his record-breaking Emmy win, then might we interest you in him in animated form and wearing a Viking helmet? After their successful effort with the Sonic franchise, the latest video game adaptation coming from the mega mountain on its streaming service is Golden Axe. Adapted from the fantasy beat 'em-up that arrived in 1989, the new animation created by Mike McMahan (Star Trek: Lower Decks) and Joe Chandler (American Dad) follows Ax Battler (Liam McIntyre), Tyris Flare (Lisa Gilory), and Gilius Thunderhead (Rhys), who reluctantly team up after time apart to save the land from the terrifying Death Adder.

Packed to the animated rafters with references to the original video game franchise, the show looks like a lot of fun, throwing in meta references and playing loosely with the legacy it explores. Marvel at the purple bird thingies and watch heroes shout "SEGA" just because. Honestly though, the real highlight might well be Rhys sounding like he's having tons of fun, which after the year he's had, he absolutely deserves. Press start now.

Despite radio silence for nearly four years, Mike Flanagan says his TV show based on Stephen King's The Dark Tower is still in the works.

"To do it the way I wanna do it requires an enormous commitment from a studio," Flanagan tells Entertainment Weekly, adding that the project is "still very much on the table." He also says that the move to Prime Video "didn't make it any easier."

In 2022, Flanagan ended his overall deal with Netflix following the cancellation of Christopher Pike adaptation The Midnight Club and announced a new partnership with Prime Video. In the initial announcement, Flanagan said he expected the series to take place over the course of five seasons, followed by two standalone feature films. This is quite a feat, and it sounds... expensive. I think we all know from 2017's live-action Dark Tower movie that it's one of the rougher King works to adapt, given its density and complexity. In Flanagan's case, each season would adapt a book in the series.

Flanagan acquired the rights to The Dark Tower while he was still under his contract at Netflix, and was secretly working out the kinks in terms of adapting the show, but it was never formally announced. The filmmaker has a lot on his plate, with his version of The Exorcist set to hit theaters in 2027.

Alan Ritchson's bulky hero is showing no signs of slowing down, as after besting the bad guys in Reacher season 4, Reacher season 5 is already well on the way. Filming has begun in Canada, and thanks to the star, we have been getting regular updates on how production is going... and it looks cold. But that's the least of Reacher's worries, as we already know which of Lee Child's Jack Reacher books is being adapted next.

Last season saw the ex-soldier face a rather violent duo who were hellbent on releasing a chemical weapon on the city of Philadelphia. The fourth outing was packed full of one-liners, kittens, and even a sneaky Tom Cruise reference. However, season 5 is set to pull Reacher into the technolocal world, whether he likes it or not. But more on that later. The fun doesn't stop there, as Reacher has already been renewed for season 6.

Reacher season 5 release date speculation

Reacher season 5 does not yet have an official release date.

Reacher was renewed for a fifth season in May 2026 ahead of Amazon’s upfront presentation, three months before season 4 hit Prime Video. Historically, Reacher seasons have released around 1.5 years apart on average. Season 2 hit Prime Video 22 months after season 1, and season 3 followed just 14 months later, and Reacher season 4 landed around 18 months after season 3. With that in mind, we could expect to see Reacher season 5 as early as December 2027, or early 2028.

However, season 5 has already started filming. Cameras started rolling on July 20 in Ontario, Canada. Star Alan Ritchson has been keeping fans updated since then, posting updates on Instagram. Season 4 started shooting in June 2025, meaning it only took 14 months for the show to land on screen from its filming start date.

Reacher season 5 plot – what book is being adapted?

While Prime Video has yet to release an official synopsis, we do know which of author Lee Child's Jack Reacher books Reacher season 5 will adapt. The series so far has followed Alan Ritchson's bulky hero as he ventures from town to town with just the shirt on his back, taking on bad guys where he can. Reacher season 1 was based on 'Killing Floor,' season 2 adapted 'Bad Luck and Trouble,' season 3 was based on 'Persuader,' and season 4 brought Child's 13th book 'Gone Tomorrow' to life.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2026, the Reacher and Neagley panel confirmed that Reacher season 5 is based on Child's 20th Reacher book titled 'Make Me.' The novel finds Reacher at a remote railroad station in a Midwestern town called Mother’s Rest, hoping to make a quick stopover. However, after expecting to find only miles of wheat fields, he meets a private investigator named Michelle Chang who mistakes him for her missing partner. When Reacher agrees to help Chang, he is pulled into a twisted technological mystery.

Now, this might sound like Reacher's usual stop in a sleepy town, but Make Me boasts global cybercrime. Not only is Mother's Rest home to some of the strangest townsfolk, but the novel dives deep into the dark web, sees Reacher and Chang head to Los Angeles for answers, and totals about 200 deaths. It is important to note that although the series usually stays pretty loyal to its source material, the Prime Video show has been known to shake things up. So we should expect some surprises along the way.

Even though Amazon remains tight-lipped on the finer details, star Alan Ritchson is keeping fans updated on how filming is going. In August 2026, Ritchson posted a video to Instagram from inside his trailer, complaining about the cold and the snow in Canada. This will surely throw the ex-soldier a curveball, as Reacher is used to strutting about in only a T-shirt and jeans. But the weather doesn't seem to be holding the star back, as in another post, Ritchson tells fans that he has to throw himself into the river rapids during one scene.

But it looks like the hero will yet again find himself in a spot of trouble, as in one post, which you can see above, Ritchson looks battered and bruised, with butterfly stitches on his face. When we look closer, we can see that Reacher is wearing a Mother's Rest, ON Volunteer Fire Department T-shirt. This is totally on brand for Reacher, as the series has seen Reacher throw on any piece of clothing he can find, including an 'I Love Maine' graphic tee and a 'Get Cracked in Philadelphia' shirt.

However, the 'ON' on the shirt also confirms that Reacher season 5 is set in Ontario, Canada, rather than in the Midwest (possibly Oklahoma or Kansas) like the book.

Reacher season 4 recap

Reacher season 4 saw the ex-soldier touch down in Philadelphia, where, on a seemingly normal train ride, he encounters a distraught federal employee named Anna Merrick. Assuming she is a suicide bomber due to her clothing and demeanor, Reacher approaches her, but she panics and shoots herself. However, just before doing so, Anna hands Reacher a flash drive that makes him a target for multiple parties. With the local police, the FBI, the CIA, and two Indonesian women known as the Hoths now on his back, Reacher teams up with Anna's brother Jacob Merrick and detective Tamara Green.

As the team attempts to find out what is really on the flash drive and why Anna killed herself, they unravel a years-old military cover-up that leads to a weapon of mass destruction being let loose in Philadelphia. After a few twists and turns, Reacher comes face to face with the season's true villains, who may just be the show's most violent yet. It should come as no surprise that Reacher comes out on top, but not without a few scrapes. However, as each season of Reacher follows a separate story, we don't think season 5 will include any characters from Philly.

Reacher season 5 cast

Back when Reacher season 5 was announced, Deadline confirmed the four Hollywood stars that will be joining Alan Ritchson as Reacher. This is the End star Jay Baruchel has been cast as Chief Buck Bauer, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes star Kevin Durand will play Nokes, Cross' Amanda Ip is set to play Michelle Chang, and Ciara Bravo, best known for appearing in this year's surprise Netflix hit Voicemails For Isabelle, will play Eunice.

Thanks to season 5 being based on Lee Child's 20th Jack Reacher book, 'Make Me', we already know a little bit about the characters. Chang is an ex-FBI agent turned private investigator who asks Reacher for help looking for her colleague who had been working for a mystery client. Bauer is a local cop in Mother's Rest who sounds a lot like season 4's Jacob Merrick. Funnily enough, Baruchel was supposed to play Merrick in season 4, but after he stepped back from the project, he was replaced by Christopher Rodriguez-Marquette.

It should come as no surprise that Durand is playing a bad guy, as Nokes is this season's physically imposing antagonist, much like season 3's Paulie. However, Bravo's character Eunice does not appear in the book. As for returning cast members, anyone other than Reacher usually doesn't show up again due to each season taking place in a different US state. However, Maria Sten's Francis Neagley has been known to drop in every now and then. But now that she has her own spin-off show, it is not clear if we will see her on Reacher's turf again.

Is there a Reacher season 5 trailer?

There is no Reacher season 5 trailer just yet, as the season has only just started filming and does not yet have a release date.

However, season 4 started shooting in mid-June 2025, and the first trailer later landed during San Diego Comic-Con 2026 in July 2026. As season 5 started filming in July 2026, this means we could see the Reacher season 5 trailer as soon as August 2027. Or, if Reacher decides to return to SDCC in 2027, Prime Video could release the trailer there.

Is Reacher season 5 the final season?

Good news Reacher fans, Reacher season 5 will not be the final season, as Amazon MGM Studios has already renewed the show for a sixth season. The studio announced the news on Twitter on September 29, less than two weeks after season 4 came to a close.

It seems that Prime Video is keen to release new seasons annually. Technically, the show could keep going as long as there are Jack Reacher novels to adapt – and there are 30 books in total. Plus, Lee Child's 31st Reacher novel, 'Chain Reaction,' co-written with his son Andrew Child, is set to hit shelves this October. So, there is no real sell-by date on Reacher, but we all know that TV shows cannot go on forever.

Frances Neagley has been a fixture on Prime Video's Reacher for several seasons, even popping up when there's no precedent in the books. But both the show and the many (many) Lee Child novels have yet to fill in Neagley's mysterious backstory. Until now, that is.

Dropping at the same time as the Reacher season 4 finale and set immediately after the events of the latest season, eight-episode spin-off series Neagley is all about the one-time member of Jack Reacher's Special Investigations Unit. The two shows are closely connected then, but speaking with GamesRadar+ in London, star Maria Sten explains how the spin-off's "emotional" exploration of Neagley's past trauma is what separates the new series from the hard-hitting mothership show.

"I was blown away by the creativity and the sensitivity about what we were gonna make the season about, which is, of course, we want to answer Neagley's backstory," says Sten, who has played Neagley since the character's first appearance way back in Reacher season 1. "I was very impressed with how they managed to weave in this very emotional story into this splashy action thriller show."

Long-running Reacher fans will know that Neagley has haphephobia – a fear of being touched. Not only is this explored in the show, so is her relationship with Tommy Crane – a childhood friend of Neagley's who dies under very suspicious circumstances, sending Neagley on an inevitably violent mission to uncover the truth.

However, unlike every season of Reacher so far, each of which has adapted a single Lee Child book, Neagley tells an original story in the Reacher-verse. Sten notes that everyone involved felt a keen sense of responsibility to stay true to Child's world and characters, even as they forged their own path.

"To me, that was the most important thing; you have to honour the foundation. There's a reason why these books are so popular," Sten says. "But, also, I felt when I read the books that there was always more than meets the eye with Neagley. She was very, very clear to me when I read the books, even though everyone was talking about how [Child] never reveals her backstory. We're expanding upon it, and we're deepening her story, and we're showing the secret sides of her, the ones that she doesn't show anyone. But ultimately it still has to be the same character.
So that was very, very important to me."

Despite cancelling Spider-Noir after just one season, Amazon and Sony are still moving ahead with their multi-title deal to use IP from Sony's Universe of Marvel characters... and there are reportedly four projects in development.

The deal was first announced back in 2022, with Silk: Spider-Society set to be the first project. The series, which would've followed Korean-American superhero Cindy Moon, was ultimately canceled before entering production. Spider-Noir premiered in 2026 to rave reviews, but was given the axe just a couple of months after the first season was released. According to The Ankler, there are a whopping four projects in the works, and Amazon is hoping to greenlight two of them.

Per the report, the four projects come from American Born Chinese creator Kelvin Yu, Pluribus and Better Call Saul writer Alison Tatlock, Tracker and Legion producer Ben H. Winters, and For All Mankind creators Ben Nedivi and Matt Wolpert in collaboration with WandaVision and The Marvels writer Megan McDonnell.

Deadline reported that one project in particular is "nearing a series order." Details are, of course, being kept under wraps, and we don't know which Spidey heroes or villains are up for their own TV shows. We do know, however, that Amazon has access to over 900 Marvel characters that qualify as Sony-owned Spider-Man characters, so the possibilities are enormous.

In the prestige TV streaming era, it's not uncommon for new seasons of the biggest shows to take upwards of two years to hit screens. And a new report has confirmed what we all knew deep down: lengthy delays between new TV seasons leads to massive drops in viewership.

The report comes from data analytics company Luminate (h/t DiscussingFilm), who crunched the numbers on several of the biggest streaming releases, including Stranger Things season 5 and Wednesday season 2. The report concludes that "long breaks between seasons usually leads to audience shrinkage for hit series." A long hiatus is defined by Luminate as anything over 18 months between seasons.

Among the hardest hit shows, according to Luminate, were The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2, which saw a 57% dip in viewership when it landed two years after its debut season; Wednesday season 2, which saw a 59% drop upon releasing 2.75 years after the first season; and even Stranger Things season 5, which, despite being the final season, saw audience figures drop 23% when it finally arrived 3.5 years after season 4. In contrast, The Pitt season 2 saw viewership soar 132% when it released 12 months after its initial run, but that was a critically acclaimed breakout series.

The long breaks between seasons can sometimes be attributed to behind-the-scenes turmoil (which seems to have been the case with Severance season 2, though that turned out OK), but more often than not it's simply the reality of producing big-budget shows in the prestige TV era, with audiences now expecting movie-quality visuals that require movie-length production timelines. This is particularly acute for effects-heavy shows like The Rings of Power and Stranger Things.

The binge release model can also have a deleterious effect, as despite inflating first-week numbers, Luminate points out that "binge-release viewership tends to decay quickly, whereas a weekly-release hit can remain on the charts week after week." There is a silver lining in the long breaks between seasons for streamers, though. Luminate's numbers point to long delays "supercharging" catch-up viewing, as audiences capitalize on the extra time to watch (or re-watch) previous seasons, ahead of new episodes.

Following another 2-year break between seasons, The Rings of Power season 3 returns this November and is set to tackle one of Middle-earth's biggest moments: the forging of the One Ring. The Rings of Power season 4 is reportedly already in the works, perhaps in an effort to speed up production and reduce the the wait for new seasons.

In the wake of Spider-Noir's cancelation, the showrunner has shared some insight into what a second season would have looked like. Oren Uziel says that while they hadn't started writing a follow-up for the Amazon MGM show, the ending of season 1 did give him some ideas.

"If I had my druthers, it would be probably another location," he told Variety. "There are so many L.A. noirs we could have dove into. There are European noirs we could have dove into. There are other places to go. You're starting in 1933. Where is that heading? It's heading toward just a most cataclysmic time – World War II. There was a lot of storytelling that could have happened there."

However, Uziel says he's pleased that they didn't leave Spider-Noir on a cliffhanger. "We made a very closed-ended show," he continued. "There's a reason we were honoring these old noirs. The story begins when the client comes into the private detective's office, and it ends when they solve the case. So, it was nicely buttoned up."

An official reason hasn't been given for the cancelation of the series, but reports from Deadline suggest that Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television were hoping for bigger streaming numbers. This was especially the case given the reported budget was about $400 million.

However, the release schedule for Spider-Noir was pretty unconventional. It aired on MGM Plus before arriving all at once on Prime Video, rather than the usual weekly release schedule.

Uziel isn't the only one who's reacted to the cancelation. Nicolas Cage also shared a very classy reaction to the news, sharing that "one season was perfect".

Stephen King has given his seal of approval to the upcoming Carrie adaptation from horror maestro Mike Flanagan. The show reimagines King's 1974 novel in a new contemporary setting.

Posting on Threads, he wrote: "Mike Flanagan's version of CARRIE is brilliant. What it has to say about social media is shocking and true." Starring breakout star Summer H. Howell, the eight-part horror series follows a teenage girl called Carrie White as she joins high school after living in isolation for most of her life.

Unaware of social norms as well as key understandings about puberty, she becomes the target of bullying. However, Carrie is far from powerless as her mysterious telekinetic powers emerge to violent ends.

A new trailer for the show has just been released, which teases Flanagan's more modern take on the story. As it hits key plot points like Carrie's horror at discovering her period, she's filmed and posted all over social media.

This is the first time that Carrie has been adapted for television, and it's certainly intriguing to imagine what this format gives this classic tale. Early reactions have been very positive too, with the first two episodes called "powerful" and "relevant".

Discussing Film's Tyler Taing said at the time: "It's a big departure for both the source material and Flanagan’s reputation as the keymaster of King’s stories. It's a true modernization focusing on teenage anxieties and the cycle of violence in our digital age."

After six episodes and countless wild goose chases, Reacher season 4 has finally revealed what was hiding on the USB. But you may be wondering what it actually is.

Warning: the following contains spoilers for Reacher season 4 episode 7. Turn back now if you haven't caught up, but make sure to read our spoiler-free Reacher season 4 review first.

At the very start of the season, we learned that just before Anna Merrick had committed suicide, she handed a USB drive to Reacher, which everyone seemed to be after, including the CIA, the FBI, and the Hoths. But since then, we never really knew the contents of the drive. Reacher and co had found a picture of John Sampson and his military buddies in a lab on base in Indonesia, but they didn't know what it meant. Until now.

What is the chemical toxin in Reacher season 4?

After Jacob Merrick saved Reacher and Tamara from Leo Ahlquist’s hired goons, the trio makes their way back to the scientist's office to interrogate him further. Ahlquist reveals that the photo contains the formula for a deadly chemical weapon that they were working on during the war as a defensive mechanism. Following Tokyo's gas attacks, the US wanted to find a way to protect the nation from possible future chemical attacks, so the CIA tasked Ahlquist and DARPA with creating the weapon so that they could then find the antidote.

So why are Lila and Amisha involved? Well, the CIA didn't want the trials, known as Operation Mongoose, taking place in the US. So the nation made a deal with Indonesian General Putra. The agreement was that DARPA would be able to work on the chemical weapon in Indonesia in exchange for Delta Force training the Indonesian troops. Sampson was part of Delta, but he didn't know the whole story at the time. In the back of the picture, we can see Amisha, who was working in the lab.

The reason why everyone was so hell-bent on getting their hands on the USB is that when Anna stole the files after being threatened by the Hoths, it tipped off the Department of Defense. In turn, the CIA and Sampson's men wanted the information out of the public eye. Whereas Lila and Amisha want to recreate the toxin to sell to worldwide terrorist organizations. But there is definitely a personal element in there on Amisha's side.

So what actually is the toxin? Well, the poison is made from the seeds of a native Indonesian plant, which Lila keeps in her bracelet. From there, the Hoths used a bunch of scientists and tech experts to crack the code, use the formula in the picture, and recreate the toxin. Lila's minions then found a way to make it airborne and cover a wide area in the hopes of "killing thousands," as Lila states. Reacher catches wind of their plan and sets out to find an event in Philadelphia that the Hoths may be targeting, eventually landing on a huge orchestral concert playing movie scores (including Mission: Impossible).

However, Reacher's hunch was wrong. The Hoths were actually targeting Sampson's party, sending in Tomas Waberi, whose ID was flagged earlier in the season, on a suicide mission. This makes sense, as it is revealed that Sampson was the one who carried out the hit against General Putra, whom Amisha worshiped. But before the toxin could be released, Sampson tackled Waberi and pushed him into a nearby body of water, ultimately sacrificing himself. With Sampson now gone and their plan foiled, we don't doubt that Lila and Amisha will try to release the weapon again. Let's just hope Reacher can catch up.

Reacher season 4 is almost over, with the penultimate episode setting the stage for what looks to be a fiery showdown between Alan Ritchson's bulky hero and his most vicious foes yet, Lila and Amisha Hoth. However, aside from sending Reacher, Tamara, and Jacob on a wild goose chase, this week's episode also contains a sneaky Tom Cruise reference that you may have missed.

Now that Lila and Amisha have unveiled their aerosolised chemical toxin, the duo plan to use it by sending out one of their minions to release it in a public place. When Reacher gets wind of this, he tries to work out where the pair might target, eventually landing on an orchestra concert playing movie scores at a nearby arena. Reacher and co head to the event, where they hear the orchestra playing none other than the Mission: Impossible theme tune.

Now, the characters don't really react to the iconic theme song, but we all know why it has been included. The Mission: Impossible franchise is led by Tom Cruise, who also starred in two Reacher movies, Jack Reacher in 2012 and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back in 2016. However, the movies both landed less-than-impressive Rotten Tomatoes scores, with critics feeling that Cruise was never really right for the role.

The inclusion of the theme is also ironic, as although Reacher is currently on his own little mission while evading the police, he doesn't really possess the stealth that Cruise's M:I Agent Ethan Hunt does. Reacher much prefers to crash his way through any situation like a bull in a China shop. But we wouldn't want it any other way.

Alas, Reacher's plan fails as the Hoths were never targeting the event at all. They actually sent one of their minions on a suicide mission to release the poison at John Sampson's party. But when Reacher finds out, it's a little too late. Sampson himself ends up taking out the minion by pushing him into the water, ultimately sacrificing himself in the process. But the story isn't over yet. It seems like the Hoths will do anything to successfully release the poison in the name of revenge.

After news broke that Spider-Noir has been cancelled after just one season, star Nicolas Cage has given the classiest possible response.

"For me, one season is perfect, having said what I wanted to say with this dangerous, innovative, pop-art Spider-Man," Cage said in a statement (via TheWrap). "Onwards, upwards, inwards."

Spider-Noir follows Ben Reilly (Cage), a private investigator in '30s New York City, who also happens to have web-slinging powers. The show was well received, with a 92% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 89% audience score. It also collected 11 Emmy nominations, and it's Cage's first TV show.

Our own Spider-Noir review awarded the show 3.5 stars, with our verdict reading: "A delightfully camp, low-stakes romp through 1930s New York City that proves Nicolas Cage is still cooler than all of us. Though it doesn't feel as big as most Marvel shows, or even Spider-Verse, and suffers from predictable plot turns that even the characters don't seem fazed by... it wants to cure your superhero fatigue, and it's even better on the second watch."

While no official reason for the cancellation has been given, Deadline notes that Spider-Noir's viewership was good, but not massive. As Cage himself says, though, the first season functions perfectly well as a standalone, so the cancellation isn't too gutting.

Spider-Noir is now the second canceled project... and there's a third on the way. According to Deadline, there are still multiple projects on development, and one is "nearing a series order." Details are, of course, being kept under wraps.

Spider-Noir saw Nicolas Cage as a jaded, down-on-his-luck private detective version of Ben Reilly aka the Spider, who finds himself returning to superheroism and going up against classic Rogue Gallery villains like Sandman and Silvermane. The series has a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, with our own Spider-Noir review praising the show's originality and Cage's excellent and equally odd acting choices.

The Runner is not winning over critics as it sprints onto Prime Video. The new action thriller starring Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot debuted to just 9% on Rotten Tomatoes, becoming the actor's lowest-ranked movie.

Directed by Kevin Macdonald, the movie stars Gadot as an attorney who must race through London on the orders of a mysterious caller to save her abducted son. Damien Lewis also stars in the movie, which is now available to stream on Prime Video.

The Guardian gives it just two stars, adding: "Intelligence might not be what one would expect here, which is somewhat acceptable in B-movie territory such as this, but the lack of excitement is hard to forgive."

"The Runner's slick design and technical contributions do not transcend the outward packaging for a potboiler with scant substance beneath," writes Variety's Dennis Harvey as IGN's Scott Collura calls it "a mid-tier movie drop" that is ultimately "unsatisfying".

Meanwhile, Daniel Hart of Ready Steady Cut calls the film a "career low" for Gadot, writing that "The Runner is a flat, amateurish thriller that wastes a promising premise on cheap direction and zero suspense."

Not all the reviews are bad. Jordan Mintzer of The Hollywood Reporter argues: "Movies such as these are all about suspension of disbelief, and The Runner keeps a fast enough pace that we don’t wind up asking too many questions."

On the press tour for the new film, Gadot has been making headlines about her Wonder Woman exit. The star, who played the superhero in the DCEU, says she wasn't told the full picture by James Gunn and Peter Safran when they took over as DC Studios CEOs.

However, as a new Wonder Woman is rumored to debut in Man of Tomorrow, she's sending her best wishes to her replacement.

Dave Bautista has addressed his casting as Kratos in the upcoming God of War series. He's replacing Ryan Hurst in the lead role after the actor sustained a serious on-set injury.

Posting on Instagram, the Guardians of the Galaxy star shared his training for the role, set to the audio of "Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in." He captioned the video, "3rd week into weight training again. 2 more months to get to where I need to be. Like ridin' a bike! LFG!"

Bautista recently lost a lot of weight after bulking up for his role in Knock at the Cabin. However, it seems like he's pivoting once again to play Kratos in the upcoming Amazon adaptation of the beloved game.

The new update also confirms when filming is due to pick up again. There were initial reports that production would resume in mid-October, but it seems like this is actually closer to November based on Bautista's caption.

Based on the hugely popular PlayStation video game franchise, the Amazon God of War series is being adapted by Ronald D. Moore. The story follows Kratos and his son Atreus as they travel to the highest peak in the nine realms to spread the ashes of their wife and mother Faye.

As well as Bautista, the show stars Callum Vinson, Teresa Palmer, Max Parker, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Mandy Patinkin, and Ed Skrein. Kratos' video game actor Christopher Judge recently revealed that he also read to play the live-action version of the character, but says he had "no desire" to be the lead actor of a TV show again.

In addition to Prime Video's upcoming Carrie series, the streamer is adapting another Stephen King story into a TV show, but this time we're heading to London.

Amazon Prime Video has greenlit a six-part limited series based on Stephen King's 1980 short story 'Crouch End,' as per Variety. The story is named after the real North London district in which it’s set, meaning the show will be the first King adaptation to be made in the UK.

The story follows a young American movie star named Doris Freeman who walks into a London police station one day and claims that a strange phenomenon is behind the disappearance of her lawyer husband. However, the police inspector Ted Vetter must investigate whether she’s telling the truth, or if she is the murderer herself. Either way, something chilling is at play.

Crouch End is thought to be an homage to legendary horror writer H.P. Lovecraft, and contains distinct references to his works. The upcoming Prime Video show won't be the first time the story has been brought to life, as Crouch End was featured as part of TNT's 2006 Nightmares & Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King special.

The new series is adapted by Bodies' Paul Tomalin, and directed by The Serpent's Tom Shankland. Tomalin told Variety, "After reading Crouch End some years back, Stephen King’s vivid prose has haunted my nightmares ever since… couldn’t be more excited to bring this thrilling tale to the screen." Variety reports that casting is already underway.

Although Crouch End has yet to land a release date, King fans will soon be treated to Mike Flanagan's Carrie series based on the popular 1974 novel of the same name. The show, which recently attracted positive first reactions, follows a troubled teen with telekinetic powers and stars Summer Howell in the titular role. Carrie hits Prime Video on October 7.

The Whisper Man

Whisper it quietly, but Adam Scott has put together a string of great performances in unnerving projects as of late: Severance and Hokum are terror-inducing for very different reasons, and The Whisper Man could add to it.

Scott plays a widowed crime writer who enlists the help of retired detective Pete Willis (Robert De Niro) after his son is abducted. What could be an open-and-shut case soon spirals out into a larger connection linked to a serial killer known as The Whisper Man.

With the producing might of the Russos behind it, and a stacked cast that features the likes of Michelle Monaghan, Michael Keaton (!), and Hamish Linklater, this will likely shoot right to the top of your watchlist this weekend. It looks suitably unsettling and, as summer turns to fall, the perfect starting point for those who like to get into the Halloween mood a little earlier than most.

Dark Matter season 2

Apple TV's library is filled with sleeper hits – and Dark Matter is no exception. The mind-bending sci-fi series, starring Joel Edgerton, sees a physicist named Jason kidnapped and sent to an alternate world, one where he invented multiverse travel.

Multiverse shenanigans, inevitably, followed – including multiple versions of the same character, and some killer twists along the way. The second season picks up where the first left off, as Jason and his family settle into a new reality.

Of course, it doesn't stay settled for long. Now it's gone past the source material, creator Blake Crouch said it offered up the potential for more narrative freedom.

At SDCC, he told us, "Once we jumped over that initial hurdle, it was totally freeing because we weren't locked into things that the book demanded us to do. So we got to follow our fancy a little bit more and write a few episodes that would never have existed in season 1."

Adults season 2

Growing up now is a lot different to growing up in the sitcom heyday of the '90s. While Friends and Seinfeld are undoubtedly timeless comedies, they never quite scratch the itch of just how suffocating it can be simply existing as a twentysomething in today's world.

With last season's marriage mayhem, there are plenty of new horizons for our gang to tiptoe towards – and sticky situations for them to wriggle their way out of. Charlie Cox is also reprising his role as Mr. Teacher, in case you needed another reason to tune in.

Lanterns episode 3

Lanterns is piling mysteries on top of mysteries. Already, Hal Jordan has bitten the bullet and lost his Power Ring in the 2026 timeline. Back in Rushville circa 2016, a Manhunter is on the loose – but no one can be quite sure who it is, thanks to their shape-shifting abilities.

The trailer for the third episode has already hinted that this is going to be a John Stewart-centric affair, potentially diving into his origins and how he found himself playing a reluctant second fiddle to Hal. But with the likes of Damon Lindelof as part of the creative team, don't expect a straightforward journey.

Another day, another James Bond rumor has been circulating. Jack Lowden, the star of Apple TV runaway hit Slow Horses is being closely linked to 007, according to GQ. And now the star's partner, Saorise Ronan has shared her desire to become a Bond villain.

"I want to go dark. I said that I wanted to be a Bond villain and I’m dead serious," she told Empire recently. "I think it would be really interesting, having a young female villain. Especially for girls and women, to see someone who can just take all that pent-up anger and direct it somewhere, there’s something interesting in that dramatically. So I would love to do more of that."

Ronan and Lowden previously shared the screen in the historical drama film Mary Queen of Scots where they played husband and wife. It would definitely be interesting to see the two stars appear opposite each other once again, especially in a more antagonistic scenario.

Denis Villeneuve will direct the next James Bond movie with Peaky Blinders creator Stephen Knight down to write the script. Amazon MGM Studios, who recently acquired the Bond rights, are currently holding auditions for the iconic role.

Lowden is just one of the names that has been touted recently with others like Callum Turner and Aaron Taylor-Johnson also in the running. We won't have too long to wait until we find out who's got the top job after producer Amy Pascal shared an update recently.

Speaking to Deadline, she teased: "I would say the end of the year is a good bet. We are being really, really methodical. Having worked with Barbara Broccoli at the studio, I mean, Daniel Craig is a hard act to follow. And it’s got to be something really different that is stirring and exciting and different."

Dave Bautista has replaced Ryan Hurst as Kratos in Amazon's God of War series. Hurst had to leave the show due to a severe injury when filming, leading Guardians of the Galaxy star Bautista to enter talks before he confirmed the news with a post on his Instagram account.

However, it seems like the news was actually manifested four years ago. As one fan spotted, there's a reference to Bautista's Guardians of the Galaxy character being the "God of War" in the movie's Disney Plus Christmas special.

As can be seen in this clip posted to Reddit, Drax and Mantis pose with fans in front of a Christmas tree in Hollywood. "Okay amazing, thank you so much," the photographer says, "We got a picture with the God of War!" It's an easy to miss moment that pokes fun at how Drax and Kratos actually look pretty similar. If you squint…

Fans have rallied to see Bautista in the role for many years and so it's not surprising that this has made it into the pop culture-loaded Guardians of the Galaxy series. James Gunn, who penned the script for that, is well known for his tongue-in-cheek dialogue, but it's fun to see this referenced in light of the recent news.

With Bautista's casting confirmed, it's expected that the God of War production will resume in Vancouver soon. Amazon has given the show a two-season order, which is due to shoot back to back.

Prime Video's God of War TV show has reportedly found its new Kratos in Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista.

Bautista had previously been in talks to play Kratos, but Variety now reports that the deal is done. The Odyssey star Ryan Hurst was previously cast as Kratos but was forced to leave the production due to a severe bicep injury onset. The original plan was to delay production and wait for Hurst to heal, but Amazon and Sony ultimately decided to recast. With Bautista on-board as Kratos, that puts things back on track to resume filming in the coming weeks, per Variety, but everything filmed with Hurst will obviously need to be reshot.

This is yet another hurdle cleared for the troubled adaptation, which took a lot of heat for a first-look image that was perceived as awkwardly framed and unfaithful to the source material.

Bautista is a retired professional wrestler and prolific actor best-known for his run as Drax the Destroyer in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy film series, two Avengers movies, and Thor: Love and Thunder. He's also no stranger to video game work, having appeared in dozens of WWE games since 2003, as well as the 2019 third-person shooter, Gears.

God of War's official cast includes Ed Skrein as Baldur, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Max Parker as Heimdall, Sonya Walger as Freya, and Alastair Duncan as Mimir. There's no release date yet.

Mother Mary

After The Odyssey, The End of Oak Street, and The Devil Wears Prada 2, the year of Anne Hathaway continues with Mother Mary. The A24 movie is now streaming on HBO Max after a stint in cinemas earlier this year. But given it made a little over $3 million worldwide in theaters, chances are it will fare better on streaming.

More Black Swan than Vox Lux, Hathaway stars as the eponymous musical artist who reunites with her costume designer (Michaela Coel) ahead of a comeback tour, until the movie takes a hard left turn towards the supernatural. Reviews were divisive, but director David Lowery is the kind of filmmaker who's always worth checking out.

Is God Is

Don't be fooled by the title; this isn't Angel Studios' latest faith-based movie. Rather, it's a pretty dark Southern Gothic horror-thriller about twin sisters who want revenge against their own father for disfiguring them as children.

Despite the very heavy premise, it's a movie with a streak of pitch-black comedy running through it, so it isn't a total mood-killer. And it has a striking sense of style, marking writer-director Aleshea Harris out as one to watch. Janelle Monáe, Vivica A. Fox and Sterling K. Brown co-star.

The Audacity

This dark comedy series about an increasingly unhinged tech CEO isn't brand new; it premiered on AMC+ in April. But now that it's made the jump to Netflix, it's opened an under-the-radar show up to a much wider audience.

Creator Jonathan Glatzer previously worked on the likes of Succession, Better Call Saul, and Bad Sisters, so top credentials. Billy Magnussen stars, with Zach Galifianakis and Barry's Sarah Goldberg among the impressive supporting cast. And the good news is, it's already been renewed for season 2.

Lanterns

After the mixed success of Supergirl, Lanterns is DC's newest shining hope as it hits HBO Max this weekend. Sitting in the prestigious Sunday night slot, the new weekly show follows the notorious intergalactic peacekeepers. Experienced Lantern Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) teams up with new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) to investigate a murder in Rushville, Nebraska.

Billed as a True Detective-style superhero story, the series is the next major project in the DCU. We've already met one Lantern in Guy Gardner, but the tone of this one will be much darker and more grounded. This is especially true given the talent behind the camera: Lost's Damon Lindelof, Chris Mundy, and Tom King. It's well worth a watch when it begins on August 16, whether you're a comic book fan or not.

Reacher season 4

The big man is back. Reacher season 4 has started on Prime Video with new episodes of the action thriller dropping weekly. Alan Ritchson is back as Jack Reacher, punching his way through a new mission. This time he gets embroiled in a CIA conspiracy after witnessing a young woman take her own life on the subway. Neagely is out of the picture ahead of her spin-off show, but a new local detective (played by Sydelle Noel) proves to be a standout in the eight-part show.

Our own Reacher season 4 review admits that while it's not the "strongest installment" of the show, the fight scenes continue to "pack a punch". The future of the Reacher universe is set too, with a season 5 already in the works, meaning we'll be seeing plenty more of Ritchson's imposing former military police officer soon. X-Men '97 season 2 finale

It's all led to this. X-Men '97 season 2 has finally come to an end with an explosive finale. The final episode of the beloved animated series features some major cameos, heartbreaking losses, and big surprises. Entitled 'Survival of the Fittest', episode nine focuses on Rogue as she races against time to try and save Gambit.

While the MCU's TV shows have had some mixed quality in the last few years, X-Men '97 has proved to be a standout. Great writing, solid character choices, and a lot of fun, the series should be a blueprint for tackling mutants in Marvel in live-action too. Immaculate

Sydney Sweeney's twisty horror Immaculate is now streaming on Netflix and is the perfect choice if you're after something gripping this weekend. It stars Sweeney as an American nun who begins a new life at a remote convent in the Italian countryside. However, strange things soon start to happen and she finds herself inexplicably pregnant.

Is it an immaculate conception or is something horrifying happening at this seemingly beautiful religious sanctuary? Alongside Sweeney, Money Heist's Álvaro Morte also stars as a charming priest in Michael Mohan's 90-minute thriller. It first came out in 2024 but is now streaming for subscribers on Netflix.

The X-Files: I Want to Believe Vrach Frankenshteyn

As well as The X-Files: I Want to Believe arriving on Disney Plus this week, the streamer has also dropped a director's cut of the 2008 movie. Never seen before, this is an R-rated version from Chris Carter, which restores some of the horror elements removed from the original film.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson return as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully in the movie, which takes place years after they stepped away from the FBI. They're drawn back in when a federal agent disappears without a trace, leading them into a mystery featuring a former priest and an unforgiving winter landscape. A must-watch ahead of the announced Ryan Coogler reboot.

The first three episodes of Reacher season 4 are streaming now on Prime Video. Star Alan Ritchson bet his life in our presence that it would be the best season yet, but the Rotten Tomatoes results are in, and, sorry Alan, you're dead, as it's currently the show's lowest-rated season according to the review aggregator.

However, it's by no means disastrous news for Reacher fans, as season 4 is currently sitting on a very respectable 88% from 16 critics. Our own Reacher season 4 review awarded the new season 3.5/5* stars, with GR+'s Megan Garside noting the new season still "packs one hell of a punch" even if the "the pacing and jumbled dialogue fall short." So 'fresh', in our eyes.

That Rotten Tomatoes score is only a problem in context, as Reacher's first three seasons all earned well over 90%, with both seasons 2 and 3 achieving a near-perfect 98%, and season 1 on a solid 92%. The relatively low number of reviews is a key factor here, with Reacher season 4's two 'rotten' reviews knocking the overall score down a massive 12%. Previous seasons have had over three times as many reviews in some cases, significantly diluting the impact of any rotten ratings.

It's almost like the Rotten Tomatoes percentage is a broken metric that doesn't accurately represent a movie or show's quality. How else do you explain Spider-Man: Brand New Day being the lowest-rated Tom Holland Spider-Man movie?

And to be fair to Reacher, the vast majority of reviews are still positive, even if the final score is on the lower end for the show. "It’s not complex. It’s not Proust. But boy it is fun," said The Times (UK). "It all comes down to whether you like twisty action-thrillers that are cold-blooded with warm hearts, and high on charm," notes RogerEbert.com (luckily for us, we do).

On the more critical side, FandomWire proved tougher to please, saying "Reacher's fourth season is less bold, less brash, and less fun, but still as brutal as ever." The Playlist stuck the boot in, however, noting "The writing and acting are occasionally so bad that it can make a person almost embarrassed to watch." Yikes!

If you're willing to overlook the mixed reviews, then the season 4 is underway now, with three episodes currently available to stream on Prime Video, and new episodes airing weekly from this point. Ex-God of War star Ryan Hurst, who departed the Amazon production after an injury, has shown off a fresh look at his Kratos – and it's way better than the show's first official look.

As posted on his Instagram Stories (and preserved on social media below), Hurst shared a picture of his depiction of the ashen Ghost of Sparta.

All told, this is a vast improvement on God of War's debut image released this past February. There, Hurst's Kratos and Callum Vinson's Atreus better resembled professional cosplayers on a photoshoot than anything close to a TV-level adaptation of the beloved PlayStation series.

Original God of War creator and director David Jaffe wasn't a fan, to put it mildly – nor was an expectant audience.

Before Hurst and company could claw back goodwill, disaster struck. An injury to Hurst forced Amazon to recast the role of Kratos and reshoot multiple episodes with a new actor.

Dave Bautista is in talks to replace Hurst as Kratos, with there also being – slightly more unsubstantiated – reports that Atreus would be recast after the first season.

Over on the games side of things, there's a lot less drama. God of War: Laufey, a new title starring Deborah Ann Woll's Giant, is set to release on February 16, 2027. At SDCC, it was confirmed that a new Kratos-led game is also in development and "directly connects to the events of the Laufey game."

The God of War TV show also stars Mandy Patinkin, Teresa Palmer, Max Parker, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, and Ed Skrein.

Fallout season 3 is currently filming, and candid snaps from the set may have revealed that a lesser-known subdivision of the Brotherhood of Steel is being introduced next season.

As spotted by eagle-eyed fans over on the Fallout subreddit, Fallout season 3 is currently filming on location at the Natural History Museum in LA; the familiar(ish) Brotherhood of Steel banners hanging around the stacks are something of a giveaway. However, look closely, and you might notice something a little different about those banners – a quill writing in a book. Check it out below.

This is a pretty clear hint that the Order of the Quill, a subdivision of the Brotherhood of Steel, is being introduced in Fallout season 3. Though it's never been a major part of the games, the Brotherhood of Steel is split into three subdivisions: the Order of the Sword (responsible for weapons development), the Order of the Shield (responsible for defensive research), and the Order of the Quill. The latter handles book/holotape retrieval and archival, and records the Brotherhood's history for posterity.

As we know from the Fallout season 2 post-credits scene, the Brotherhood has gotten its hands on the blueprints for Liberty Prime Alpha, a giant robotic suit of power armor that has recurred in the games, appearing in Fallout 3's Broken Steel DLC and in Fallout 4. In both games, Liberty Prime is eventually destroyed (along with a chapter of the Brotherhood, depending on the Sole Survivor's choices). Given the TV show is set some 9 years after Fallout 4 in 2296, the Order of the Quill may prove key to unearthing knowledge necessary to rebuild Liberty Alpha Prime.

"Makes me wonder if they're showing off a different Brotherhood chapter," theorizes one fan. "Max's chapter absolutely has a nerd division, but I would think they'd be heavily pushed to the side at this point in time to divert resources to Quintus's war aspirations."

"Honestly, it would be interesting if we see a BoS chapter focused on knowledge rather than warfare and technology," adds another fan. "Especially since season 2 showed most BoS chapters have devolved into pretty much raiders."

Fallout season 3 details are still few and far between, though Bethesda bigwig Todd Howard has said that the next season will include "new things" that have "never [been] seen before in the games." We also know that season 3 will be heading to a new location for Fallout, Colorado, where Cooper Howard's family is seemingly being held.

When GamesRadar+ arrives on the set of Reacher season 4, star Alan Ritchson is kicking a gun out of the hand of an oncoming thug in the doorframe of a dilapidated hallway. He does this about seven or eight times, and we watch each time as they yell cut, replace broken glass, sweep away kicked-up dust, and unruffle everyone's shirts. Director Sam Hill tells us that they've been filming this particular fight scene for a few weeks now, and that it'll last for all of 12 seconds on screen.

"We're right up against those final moments," Hill tells us, explaining that the fight scene takes place towards the end of the season. "Everybody's gonna get what they deserve. It's like the event. The closer to the end of the season you get... now things are on fire." Hill laughs before being pulled back into the madness, where they run the entire scene over again a few more times.

Reacher season 3 ended with Jack killing his nemesis Xavier Quinn with one swift stab to the chest before riding off into the sunset on his trusty motorbike… and we can't help but wonder how the journey took him to a rundown, asbestos-filled apartment building. The new season takes place in New York City, but we're standing on a studio lot in Toronto, Canada. Production designer Nazgol Goshtasbpour takes us up some rickety stairs and right into the three-floor apartment that serves as one of the central set pieces.

It took a minute for me, an avid reader of Lee Child's Jack Reacher book series, to realize where we were, but a computer system setup and a few empty cots tipped me off. Season 4 adapts the novel Gone Tomorrow, which sees Reacher witness a suicide attempt on a subway that sends him into a whirlwind of terrorists, corrupt politicians, and the 1980 Soviet-Afghan war. We're standing in one of the decrepit buildings that Reacher discovers in the South Side of Philadelphia (though it's located on 58th Street in Manhattan in the novel), belonging to main antagonists Lila and Amisha Hoth (played by Agnez Mo and Anggun, respectively).

It's an almost-reproduction of an abandoned building that they shot on location in Philly, right down to the working 1920s-era elevator they built for scenes that take place between floors. Goshtasbpour goes into the meticulousness of each detail, right down to carefully placing each piece of debris and using hot glue to make light-catching cobwebs. Lila and her criminal crew even have their own little kitchen and fireplace, though the toilet is broken and both the wiring and plumbing are exposed.

"And a lot of times with Reacher… I make this joke on set. I say, 'We're not making a feature. We're making Reacher.' Because I think it's just much more complicated," she says. "Our sets are more elaborate than a feature film." We're inclined to agree: a wall of photos offers a glimpse of another fully built (and now-destroyed) set, including a custom-built bridge with a fake road underneath. Elsewhere in Canada, they turned a piece of land into an Indonesian village, complete with an army base. Everything is practical, except for the taller palm trees and helicopters, which will be added in post. Careful not to spoil anything, Goshtasbpour explains that this is for a flashback sequence (likely for Lila and Amisha).

Fight or Flight

When we meet back up with director Sam Hill, filming is done for the day. It's mid-November, and they're still months away from being fully wrapped, as ADR and post-production tend to take a while. He takes a seat in front of the wall of set photos, one of which features the decaying hideout we just toured, prompting the group to ask about the level of danger Reacher faces from Lila and Amisha Hoth.

"What's new and exciting about every season isn't necessarily like, 'Oh, this person's a bigger, badder person to fight,' or, 'This is a bigger, harder challenge.' It's this whole new group of people reacting to a Reacher perspective on the world," Hill says. "Certainly for me, that's one of the most attractive things about this project in general, is the Reacher figure himself doesn't really arc over any given novel or over any given season, but it's all the people around him in that orbit who do."

Hill goes on to praise showrunner Nick Santora for his ability to "take this character that Lee Child created" and "weigh him against all these new people and environments." It's a non-spoilery way of saying that Reacher is definitely in over his head this season, as the Hoths are nothing like season 1's KJ Kliner or Beck and Quinn of season 3.

Without giving too much away, the Hoths are criminals with unimaginably violent pasts, and they're so skilled in the art of manipulation that even Reacher falls victim to it for a second (at least in the novel). Mo and Anggun, who play mother-and-daughter duo Amisha and Lila, are Indonesian superstars known primarily for their music. Both actors tell us during a brief chat later that day that they play strong women who have lived through a lot of atrocities and are in America with the intention of finding Lila's birth father... though that's not all they're there for.

When asked about the decision to change the book's New York City setting to Philadelphia, Hill explains that it's really just because season 2 already took place in New York and its surrounding areas. As for the Philadelphia landmarks that show up during the new season: "I'm pretty certain that Reacher as a character would not be interested in the Rocky statue at all."

For the final question, someone points out that many of the novels are from the first-person perspective of Jack Reacher, while the show itself is absent of monologues and inner dialogue. "And yet the show still communicates the interiority of Reacher. How?"

"The first is you cast a guy named Alan Ritchson as Reacher. That is step number one," Hill replies. "Step number two is put a camera as close to him as you can and let him do his thing."

Reach for the stars

"This is the worst day for you guys to be here. I'm so embarrassed," Alan Ritchson says when he sits down for our long-awaited group interview. We'd all excitedly told him that we watched him kick a gun upwards of 20 times. He immediately wished we would've come by on a more exciting shoot day. "That is mortifying. Of all the days. The most mundane, difficult. It's like a Price Is Right game."

But there's plenty more gun-kicking where that came from: "I think in the first three weeks we shot more fights than all the other seasons combined." Ritchson thinks the fight count for the entire season is around 30, and mentions that they're always running out of fake blood. As far as book-accuracy goes, this tracks: Reacher takes on multiple baddies from all angles in Gone Tomorrow. Of course, this all leads up to him fighting Lila and Amisha in a three-against-one.

"We're not in Margrave," he says, referring to the show's first season, which feels rather tame in comparison. "And it's fun. It's always funny, sorta seeing Reacher in these new situations with these new women and how he handles it… I'm always wondering what he's gonna do in these moments. I'm also waiting to see what feels right in the moment.

"And I think [Lila's] secrets and her presence and her pursuit really turned it into something really interesting," he continues. "Because he doesn't see it coming at all, and it does put him on his heels in a way that we haven't really seen, where he's like, 'What do I do with this?'"

He tells us about a set piece that we didn't get to see: a bowling alley where an all-out brawl takes place. "It's kind of a hilarious set piece for something like this, for something gory to take place, but it is probably one of the most epic fights I have ever shot in my career. We even have these great angles where it's like the old Indiana Jones moments." This is not in the book, so color me intrigued.

Ritchson has a flight to catch, but wants to make sure we don't have a doubt in our minds about Reacher season 4: "I would bet my life that this is going to be, by whatever metric you [you use], better than anything we've done."

The hunt for the next James Bond continues, and new series co-producer Amy Pascal has said we could know who Daniel Craig's successor as 007 is by the end of this year.

Speaking to Deadline about the box office success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which just beat Avengers: Endgame's opening weekend record, Pascal offered an update on the long-awaited, Denis Villeneuve-directed Bond movie, including when we can expect a new 007 to be cast. "I would say the end of the year is a good bet," Pascal said. Back in May, we learned that Game of Thrones casting director Nina Gold was leading the search for the next British super spy, with auditions set to take place over the summer.

It's been almost six years since Daniel Craig's final outing as Bond in No Time to Die, and it seems that Villeneuve, Pascal, fellow producer David Heyman and studio Amazon MGM aren't going to rush into a decision. "We are being really, really methodical," Pascal continued. "Having worked with Barbara Broccoli at the studio, I mean, Daniel Craig is a hard act to follow. And it's got to be something really different that is stirring and exciting and different."

At Amazon's CinemaCon presentation back in April, the studio's head of film, Courtenay Valenti, addressed the Bond question, claiming that the search is taking so long because of the "care and deep respect" for the process of casting a new 007. Plenty of actors are rumored to be in contention, from Callum Turner to Jacob Elordi. One person who definitely won't be playing Bond, however, is Henry Cavill, who famously auditioned to play Bond 20 years ago, but now thinks he'd be better suited to play a Bond villain.

All we know for sure is that Dune's Denis Villeneuve will direct the first Amazon MGM Bond movie, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight currently penning the script. But even if the new Bond is announced this side of Christmas, it could still be several years until we see the next installment, as Villeneuve is still busy with Dune: Part 3.

Warhammer 40K fans are eating well this week. Hot on the heels of the news that a new Deathwatch animated series is in the works, Henry Cavill has confirmed that he's still set to star in the live-action Warhammer 40K series on Prime Video.

In a state-of-the-nation post on Instagram, Cavill confirmed recent reports that Mike Flanagan has been brought on to write the Warhammer 40K live-action series, with the former Man of Steel and Warhammer mega-fan noting that they have already made "considerable advances in the story" since Flanagan's involvement.

On the recently announced Deathwatch animated show, Cavill revealed that he and producer Natalie Viscuso are "working closely" with series lead Dave Wilson to ensure "things line up with the overall universe plan." A hint, perhaps, that both shows will be more closely connected than you might expect.

And most important of all, despite initial reports that Cavill would star in a Warhammer series breaking way back in December 2022, the star (re)confirmed that he will indeed lead the live-action Warhammer show. "Rest assured, I most certainly will!" Cavill said, stopping short of offering even a morsel of further information. "Who that character is, however, shall remain a secret for now!"

Cavill's post arrives in the wake of an annual report from Games Workshop CEO Kevin Rountree, in which the minifig bigwig dropped a motherlode of Warhammer news, apparently ahead of schedule, including the involvement of Flanagan in the live-action show and the existence of the Deathwatch animated series. "Some news got ahead of us last week, but we wanted to wait a quick beat for the dust to settle, some deals to finalise and, if nothing else now [to] confirm some rumours!" Cavill said.

Beyond the Warhammer 40K setting, little is known about the live-action show. But Cavill is a lifelong fan, and is evidently taking all the time needed to get it right: "I have loved Warhammer since I was a boy, making this moment truly special for me," Cavill said back in 2022. "The opportunity to shepherd this cinematic universe from its inception is quite the honor and the responsibility."

Dave Bautista, the prolific actor known for playing Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is reportedly in talks to play Kratos in Prime Video's God of War TV show.

Per Variety, Amazon is eyeing Bautista for the lead role in its God of War TV series after The Odyssey star Ryan Hurst, who had previously been cast as Kratos, left the production due to a torn bicep suffered on the set of the series. The plan was reportedly to delay a return to production until next year, but Amazon and Sony ultimately decided to recast the part and pick back up in the fall.

The God of War series hasn't had the easiest time since it was confirmed back in 2022, with reactions to the first-look image from February being overwhelmingly negative. And with Hurst now seemingly out, that'll probably remain the one and only official shot of the actor playing Kratos.

Meanwhile, it's also been reported that the actor playing Atreus in season 1, Callum Vinson, is being recast for season 2, suggesting a big time gap between the two seasons. Narratively, there are three years between 2018's God of War and 2022's God of War Ragnarok, which the TV series is adapting.

The God of War TV show's confirmed cast includes Ed Skrein as Baldur, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Max Parker as Heimdall, Sonya Walger as Freya, and Alastair Duncan as Mimir, a role he's reprising from the games. The series does not yet have a release date.

A Warhammer 40,000 animated show is in the works at Prime Video, with nerd king Henry Cavill on board to produce. The animated show will exist alongside the long-gestating live-action series, which Cavill is set to star in.

The new animated show will be spun off from the Warhammer 40,000 episode of Amazon's 2024 video game-themed anthology show Secret Level, per Variety, which had its own standalone Warhammer installment. That episode's director, Dave Wilson, co-created the Warhammer 40,000 animated series alongside Band of Brothers' John Orloff. Cavill will executive produce with Tim Miller, who, as well as directing Deadpool and the ill-fated Terminator: Dark Fate, is the co-founder of visual effects/animation house Blur Studios.

It's unknown how close the links to the Secret Level episode, 'And They Will Know No Fear' will be, but the show is said to center on The Deathwatch – a decentralized group of specialist marines who hunt aliens. "Secret Level’ wasn’t conceived simply as an anthology. It was designed as a launchpad for larger stories," said Wilson in a statement. "This series gives us the opportunity to build on that foundation and tell a much larger story."

As for Prime Video's other Warhammer show, despite the involvement of super-fan Cavill, there's been little forward momentum over the years. However, only last week we learned a lot from Games Workshop CEO Kevin Rountree in the company's latest earnings report (sexy).

As well as first revealing the existence of this animated show, Rountree shared that master of horror Mike Flanagan has joined the live-action project as a writer. He also confirmed that there will be another Warhammer-themed episode in Secret Level season 2, this one set in the Age of Sigmar universe.

The existence of the Cavill-led Warhammer 40k show was first revealed way back in December 2022, but it took two years for Cavill to confirm his involvement. "My incredible team and I, alongside the brilliant minds at Games Workshop, have been working away in concept rooms, breaking down approaches to the enormity and magnificence of the Warhammer world." It could be years still until the show hits screens. Let's hope this new animated series is more than a stopgap while we wait.
