Doctor Who getting episodic PC adventure games

This news only matters to Doctor Who fans, but screw you if you don't care. We're Doctor Who nerds, which should be apparent by our willingness to actually invest energy caring about this. Don't make fun of us.

A few days ago the BBC announced four two-hour "interactive episodes" of Doctor Who for the PC and Mac. Charles Cecil, creator of the Broken Sword series, is heading up Sumo Digital's development of the games with help from Doctor Who's writers and producers, as well as The Doctor's current incarnation, Matt Smith, and his on-screen companion, Karen Gillan (Amy), who are providing voices.

According toa BBC News article about the games, they are "part of the BBC's drive to increase computer literacy among those who aren't regular net users." Wait. No. That doesn't sound fun. Tell us these are proper games, Piers Wenger, Head of Drama for BBC Wales and Executive Producer ofDoctor Who:

"There aren't 13 episodes of Doctor Who this year, there are 17 - four of which are interactive. Everything you see and experience within the game is part of the Doctor Who universe: we'll be taking you to places you've only ever dreamed about seeing - including locations impossible to create on television."

Yes! Four canon Doctor Who games. Reaffirm our excitement, Steven Moffat, Head Writer and Executive Producer:

"Children don't just watch Doctor Who - they join in. They make up games, invent their monsters, create their own stories. Now, there's something else - now they can be the Doctor in brand new episodes."

We aren't children, Moffat. Adults like Doctor Who and adventure games too. Anticipation... fading... ow... it hurts. We just want to fly the TARDIS around and outsmart some Daleks, and for it to be fun. Please?

If we're lucky, the episodes will be delightfulbite-sized adventures which capture the Doctor Who spirit. If we're not, they'll be dumbed-down family-oriented edutainment. The firstepisode will be available for download on theofficial Doctor Who websitein June.
