We’re all full of recommendations today and here’s another quick heads up on a promising upcoming title. Chicks Dig Time Lords: A Celebration of Doctor Who by the Women Who Love It is a collection of short essays and interviews with women sharing their experiences of Doctor Who fandom and the series itself.
“When Doctor Who returned in 2005, there was a lot of talk in the press about how the programme was attracting female audiences as if it was something new and rare. And my reaction was: ‘But we've always been here,’” said Tara O’Shea when talking to SFX. Along with Lynne M. Thomas Tara edited Chicks Dig Time Lords which features essays by genre author Jody Lynn Nye, director Lisa Bowerman, Carole “John’s sister” Barrowman and a special piece from DWM columnist Jackie Jenkins.
The book is designed to appeal to female fans of old and new Who alike and could also be used as a cunning gift for that wife/girlfriend who’s convinced Who isn’t for her. “It shows it's not all just Daleks and Cybermen and running down corridors. And even when it is, it's just as appealing - if not moreso - to women and girls.”
Chicks Dig Time Lords: A Celebration of Doctor Who by the Women Who Love It is released on 15 March 2010 and is available to pre-order now.
