Chainsaw Director For Conan

The director behind the remakes of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Fiday The 13th, Marcus Nispel, will finally bring the big screen Conan remake out of development Hell, when the film finally swings into production late this year.

Nu Image/Millennium is making the film in a co-production with Lionsgate. Filming will take place in Bulgaria and South Africa. The script is by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, whose credits include Sahara and Cowboys and Aliens.

The remake has been gestating over a nine-year period during which directors such as the Wachowski Brothers, Brett Ratner and Robert Rodriguez have been attached.

Nispel, who claims to be a lifelong fan of Conan, says he will blend his childhood imaginings of the character with the influence of the famous Conan illustrations by Frank Frazetta, and the look of viscerally violent period films such as Mel Gibson's Apocalypto.

No news yet on who'll be cast as Cimerrian warrior, who was played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in three films in the ’80s.
