BLOG Interview with a SABER star

One of the big internet memes of this year has been SABER, a spoof advert for a new brand of Jedi-themed deodorant in the Lynx mould. If you haven't seen it yet, it features the magic combination of Star Wars combat and women in their underwear. There's a YouTube video below. And blogger Kelly Harker exclusively interviews producer and actor Rileah Vanderbilt.

Meet Rileah Vanderbilt from SABER

Kell: You play the sexy brunette Jedi in the hit YouTube short film, SABER. Have you always been a fan of Star Wars? Rileah: I've been a Star Wars fan ever since the first time I watched the movie back when I was a kid! Movies like Star Wars and Indiana Jones are what really prompted me to want to become an actress. I've always wanted to do movies that had the same action, adventure, and fantasy that Star Wars had. On a more nerdy level, I named my cat Chewbacca (aka Chewy) after everyones favourite Wookiee, and I have a pretty nice replica Princess Leia slave costume from leiasmetalbikini.com ! What I love about Star Wars is that it's appealing to practically everyone, and it stands the test of time. You never grow out of watching those movies! It's one of those things you get excited about sharing with your future children.

Kell: SABER is a hilarious mock commercial but was there another motive for the film? Rileah: When we first sat down and decided to do an online project together, LA was in the middle of a writer's strike, there weren't any movies or TV shows getting made, and Clare and I were very frustrated and fed up with waiting around for people to give us opportunities. So we decided to produce and act in our own project. SABER was a way for us to not only be in charge of our own destiny, but hopefully also a calling card to lead to other opportunities - it's great exposure for us both.

Kell: Finally: the dark side of the Force, or the light side? Rileah: I think I'll stick with the light side of the Force... I'd like to lie and say I'd make a great Sith because hey, bad girls have more fun, but who am I kidding, I couldn't even play FABLE 2 as an evil badass!

This interview was conducted by blogger Kell Harker . Your thoughts on this welcome as always, in the comment thread below. Did you enjoy the SABER spoof video? Do you have lightsaber skills? Will you be looking out for future projects by Rileah Vanderbilt and Clare Grant? Let us know.
