50 Greatest Movie Posters Of 2011

Chromeskull: Laid To Rest 2

The Poster: Super-shiny artwork for the cult slasher sequel, which stars scream queen Danielle Harris. And blokes wearing skull masks.

Coolest Detail: Those wicked blades.

Bad Teacher

The Poster: Lousy movie, funny poster, as Cameron Diaz gets into character as the titular bad educator.

Coolest Detail: The cheeky tagline. We bet she doesn’t.

The Beaver

The Poster: Uses the ‘beaver card’ featured in the movie to explain the film’s plot. Pretty clever.

Coolest Detail: Mel Gibson’s face is conveniently hidden behind the beaver. Yeah, yeah, that’s the point of the movie, but it can’t have hurt post-Melgate.

The Deep Blue Sea

The Poster: An evocative still from the movie that makes us feel those destructive flames of passion.

Coolest Detail: The name ‘Terence Davies’.

Crazy Stupid Love

The Poster: Starring Steve Carell and Marisa Tomei’s very shapely calf. As well as all those other A-listers. But mostly Marisa Tomei’s calf.

Coolest Detail: It’s sort of a poster sequel to The Graduate , what with the innocent chap finding himself seduced by a sultry woman.

Red State

The Poster: Exquisitely creepy, recalling that bit in Halloween when Michael Myers dons a bedsheet and specs.

Coolest Detail: It’s all scratched to shit. Which somehow just makes it awesome.

Scream 4

The Poster: Focussing entirely on everybody’s favourite serial killer, Ghostface.

Coolest Detail: That familiar Ghostface mask has been modified to taper into a super-sharp blade. Wish the rest of the film had been this clever.

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes

The Poster: Viral artwork for the much-belated prequel, which shows evolution from ape, Neanderthal and man to future ape-man.

Coolest Detail: It looks like something Banksy might scribble.

Captain America: The First Avenger

The Poster: Chris Evans protects his important bits with that iconic shield.

Coolest Detail: The updated super-suit, which combines combat togs with superhero iconography.

Another Earth

The Poster: Similar to Melancholia ’s one sheet, to be honest, as a beautiful blonde stares enigmatically right at us. Still nice to look at.

Coolest Detail: The neat double ‘o’ in the title.
