Super Mario Crossover kicks your balls into next week with awesomeness

Holy shit folks, when we came in this morning we were all, “sigh, looks like a slow news day, boo hoo.” And then what fell into our laps like Mana from Heaven, a gift to the child inside all of us? The goddamned finest Flash game we’ve seen in forever:Super Mario Crossover.

Above: Not a hoax, not an imaginary story

Some enterprising developer called Exploding Rabbit recreated a pitch perfect version of Super Mario Bros, only this time you can play through the NES classic not just as boring old Mario, but as his old 8-bit pals Link, Samus, Mega Man, Simon Belmont, and Billy R. All the guys play like they did in their respective games, aside from Link’s jumping ability, and their classic music plays in the background. Why stomp a Goomba when you can hit him with a Mega Buster or boomerang? Why break bricks with a jump when you can throw an axe and destroy them all? It all works so well even though it really shouldn’t.

The level of work put into this game impresses us. According to the FAQ on theExploding Rabbit site, this took the 25-year-old creator, Jay Pavlina, over a year to make. So for reals guys, just play it already. Newgrounds is hosting ithere.
