Nintendo's best known for long-running franchises about plumbers and swordsmen, but for the voters of this year's Golden Joystick Awards, it was all about the squids. Splatoon took first place in the Golden Joystick Awards' Best Nintendo Game category, sponsored by Gamesmaster Magazine.
The unique ink-blasting online shooter claimed the top spot over The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask at No. 2 and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate at No. 3, both eagerly anticipated games from powerhouse franchises. Not bad for a new series about fashionable squid teenagers buying clothes and playing paintball with their own bodily secretions.
Splatoon's kept fresh with new guns, maps, and community events since it came out in May, but I hope Nintendo has plans for a Spla2n in there somewhere, too.
