Ncuti Gatwa is on the cover of SFX 378 (in UK shops now), doing that classic “reaching out a hand” pose that all Doctors are contractually obliged to do. But not walking around a clock.

The issue comes bagged with some great gifts: a double-sided A2 poster (with Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson posing on one side, and Ncuti inside the TARDIS on the reverse), plus two art cards featuring cover art from Blu-ray range The Collection (to be specific: season 14 and season 23).

It’s been in the can for what seems like forever, but it’s finally almost time to see the Fifteenth Doctor’s first full run of adventures. We get ready for season one (don’t write in – that’s what they’re officially calling it!) with a whopping 18 pages of coverage, speaking to stars Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson, showrunner Russell T Davies, directors Julie Anne Robinson and Ben Chessell, and hair and make-up designer Claire Williams. We’d have included some space babies too, but frankly their vocabulary is frustratingly limited.

The Sandman universe is expanding with a new TV series based on the spinoff comic about the exploits of a pair of ghosts who investigate supernatural crimes. We find out more from showrunner Steve Yockey, plus leads George Rexstrew (Edwin Payne) and Jayden Revri (Charles Rowland).

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

Caesar’s story may have wrapped up, but there’s still plenty of territory to explore in the Planet of the Apes universe. Executive producers/writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver tease what’s in store in the franchise’s tenth entry, set 300 years after the noble chimp’s death.

Lestat is back in season two of the Anne Rice show – but wait, didn’t he die at the end of season one? We try to extract some answers from executive producers Rolin Jones and Mark Johnson.

Rentaghost

If your mansion house needs haunting, who ya gonna call? No, not Ghostbusters you fool. In what’s surely this issue’s most exciting feature*, we look back at the kids’ TV classic of the ‘70s and ‘80s for an in-depth six-page retrospective, speaking to producer Jeremy Swan and regular Christopher Biggins.
(* Sorry Russell – stick a pantomime horse in the TARDIS, then we can talk.)

Red Alert

And the big features are just the tip of the iceberg! As ever, our news section, Red Alert, is crammed with insights into yet more movies, TV shows, comics and books. In the spotlight this month: supernatural horror Tarot; Blake Crouch TV show Dark Matter; the final season of Evil; Marvel event Blood Hunt; and new Creature From The Black Lagoon, Godzilla, RoboForce and Space Ghost comics. Plus there’s more of our chat with Sonequa Martin-Green about the final season of Star Trek: Discovery, and we profile SF writer Oliver K Langmead.
