Sci-Fi Bargains Of The Week

Hello, hello, hello and welcome to this week’s SFX Friday bargains round-up. As ever we’ve hunted through the internet and popped round the shops to find cheap offers and low priced items to tempt you away from your hard earned cash. Read on for films, TV shows and other geeky ideas that won’t break the bank.

First this week we have the latest season of Being Human , which is available in Amazon’s “Deals of the Week.” You can get season four on Blu-ray for £10.99 , or alternatively the DVD is just a pound cheaper at £9.99 . If you want all four seasons of the show, you can pick up the box-set on DVD for £25.99 and also on Blu-ray for just £29.99 .

Next in the bargains round up we have a selection of Doctor Who adventures. Two from the Hartnell era; “The Sensorites” is on DVD for £7.97 and “The Time Meddler” is also on DVD , but for the slightly cheaper £7.17 . We also found a couple of adventures from Tom Baker’s stint in the blue box; “Nightmare of Eden” is on DVD for £9.99 and “Seeds of Doom” can be yours on DVD for £7.69 .

Last week Amazon’s “Deals of the Week” featured the Angel box-set and this week Amazon has got the complete Buffy the Vampire Slayer DVD box-set on offer. You can pick it up for £46.97 .

Over at Play.com we found a few cheap DVDs. Play has undead fun with Zombieland on DVD for £3.99 , the vampire apocalypse with Stake Land on DVD for £5.24 and relationship/memory hell with Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind , again on DVD for just £3.98 .

Zavvi has a Jurassic Park Blu-ray box-set featuring all three dinosaur films on offer for £13.95 .

Also on Zavvi we spotted a selection of Fringe box-sets. They had season one , season two and season three all on Blu-ray and all for £9.95 each. We couldn’t find them on DVD anywhere for as cheap as that.

Staying with Zavvi and TV box-sets, we also found The Ghost Whisper complete season one to five set on DVD for £39.95 .

In our weekly wander to the supermarket we visited Asda, Tesco and Morrison’s… This week’s winner was Asda, which still has a selection of sci-fi themed Blu-rays on sale for £7 each including Species, Alien, Aliens, The Fly, Predator, Legend and I Robot . Other cheap Blu-rays spotted were Contact, Wolfman, Interview with the Vampire and Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang for £5 each. That last one may not be a sci-fi film but it is written and directed by Shane Black and stars Robert Downey Jr. who are set to work together on Iron Man 3 .

On the DVD front we saw Chronicle, Underworld 4, The Woman in Black and John Carter all for £10 each. Let Me In, Rec 2 and Deep Blue Sea for £5 . We also saw a film called Jurassic Shark for £7 and were amazed that nobody had done that title before…

The first of our random suggestions this week is Lego. Firebox has a couple of Giant Lego alarm clock minifigures on offer. We saw Commander Rex and Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars; The Clone Wars for £17.49 each and Toy Story ’s Buzz Lightyear for the slightly cheaper price of £16.24 .

Midnighter from the forum told us about a tie-/cash-in on the imminent release of The Dark Knight Rises . Hot Wheels has released several die-cast Batman vehicles. He spotted them in Asda for £1.97 each.

If you’ve ever felt the need to turn vigilante then this next item is for you. It’s a replica of the diary belonging to the Watchmen ’s favourite crazy vigilante Rorschach. Perfect for jotting down all your mad ramblings while you patrol the streets with a sock on your head. It’s available for £14.99 .

Back over at Play we spotted a few T-shirts. First up this Avengers themed T-shirt for £12.99 , a gory Alien chestburster T-shirt for £7.99 and a lovely Thor T-shirt for £5.99 .

Finally for this week we have Star Trek bath robes . We found them on offer with a 40% discount over at Firebox. You can choose between Spock’s blue uniform and Kirk’s command gold for £29.99 each.
