The Oculus Rift is releasing between January to March 2016, and here's what the retail headset looks like from the front...

...and sort of from the inside. There are some strange bits (technical term) sticking out on both views and it's not clear if they're parts of the cabling, harness or something new entirely. .

Oculus Rift finally has a release date: first quarter 2016. Or, somewhere between January to March if you want to use something so wantonly useful as an actual date.

The news has been revealed on the Rift's blog page although there's not a lot else save the reveal of the final unit up there and the teasing, "E3 is just around the corner — this is only the beginning".

So, something at E3 then.

However it doesn't look like we'll have to wait that long for more though with the post adding that, "in the weeks ahead, we’ll be revealing the details around hardware, software, input, and many of our unannounced made-for-VR games and experiences coming to the Rift". That starts next week with more tech specs for the final unit. I am excite.
