He’s just spent months making his huge Che Guevara biopic, but it looks like Steven Soderbergh isn’t finished with real-life people – he’s just asked Michael Douglas to play Liberace.
Variety reports that the film will chronicle the piano legend’s flamboyant style, quixotic life and endless denials that he was gay. He died in 1987.
Matt Damon, who has just starred for Soderbergh in The Informant, is talking about the role of Scott Thorson. Thorson sued the performer in 1982 for $113 million in palimony after claiming that he was Liberace’s lover for five years.
Soderbergh has already hired Richard LaGravanese to write the script, but his packed schedule means he won’t be making Liberace his next project – he still has to direct The Girlfriend Experience.
