Justin Lin set to direct Star Trek 3

Star Trek 3 has found its new director, with Deadline reporting that Paramount has elected to give the gig to Fast Five’s Justin Lin.

Roberto Orci had previously been in place to direct the project, having been endorsed by J.J. Abrams, only to drop out on account of creative differences. He remains involved as a producer.

The studio has moved quickly to replace Orci, with executives keen to get the film made in time for a 2016 release date, the year of the franchise’s 50th anniversary.

With Lin now in place, and a script (co-written by Orci) ready to go, expect an official release date to be announced in due course…
