Stranger Things may have ended, but that won't stop Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour from reuniting in a brand new thriller show for Netflix.

Per Deadline, the series, loosely based on the Paul Warner novel A Spy in the Blood, follows Harbour as "disgraced FBI agent turned security expert Matt Wolfe" who is "drawn back into the world he left behind when his estranged daughter, Rebecca (Brown), now an FBI agent determined to follow in his footsteps, vanishes on a mission, forcing him back into a field that has evolved beyond him."

Jack Thorne, creator of the no. 2 Netflix series of all time, Adolescence, will serve as showrunner with A24 producing.

The news comes six months after the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, in which Brown and Harbour played adoptive father and daughter, Hopper and Eleven, for nearly 10 years. The series ended with quite the happy ending for Harbour's grumpy but lovable police chief, though we can't say the same for Brown's bald, telekinetic superhero.

"Father-daughter is where we live, but Netflix will always be our home," Brown said of the new collaboration. Harbour also recently teased the project in an interview with Variety, saying, "You'll see more of me and Millie. 10 years wasn't enough."

Stephen King is no stranger to sharing his opinions on new movies and TV shows online, and his latest recommendation is a brand new Apple TV show, but it's not Widow's Bay.

"Widow's Bay is good. Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed is even better," said King on Twitter. "It's like Hitchcock came back to do it one more time. And Tatiana Maslany is so good. The play of emotions on her face is pretty incredible. She goes from comic to terror in an instant." Comparing the show to the works of Hitchcock, the king of suspense, is big praise indeed.

Starring Orphan Black's Maslany, Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed follows a newly divorced soccer mom named Paula who is thrown into a spiral of blackmail and murder when she witnesses a crime. Whilst juggling an ongoing custody battle, Paula begins her own investigation that leads her to an even greater conspiracy. The show hit Apple TV on May 20 and will conclude on July 15, 2026.

Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed has proven to be a hit with critics, standing at an impressive 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it hasn't blown up as much as Apple TV's other dark comedy, Widow's Bay. The new show, which leans a little more into the horror genre, follows a mayor who desperately tries to drive tourists to his small, dated island, but in doing so, triggers a sinister curse. Widow's Bay sits at a slightly higher 97% RT score.

Earlier this month, horror director Guillermo del Toro called the surprise hit "one of the best streaming series in a long time." And just this week, game developer and fellow Twitter film reviewer Hideo Kojima shared his thoughts on Widow's Bay. "It’s so incredibly good that I couldn’t stop," said Kojima. Funnily enough, Kojima added, "Fans of Stephen King and horror in general will love it." Well, it seems as though King prefers Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed.

Apple TV is keeping fans of tension and mystery fed right now. Widow's Bay came to an end on June 17, but Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed is still airing, as well as the new Cape Fear TV adaptation, starring Amy Adams, Patrick Wilson, and Javier Bardem as the terrifying Max Cady. Crime drama Unconditional also concludes on June 19.

Dune star Javier Bardem is here to make Amy Adams' life – and his eyeballs hurt like – hell in the nightmarish, bloody teaser for Apple TV's Cape Fear.

Based on Martin Scorsese's 1991 thriller of the same name, which was itself inspired by John D. MacDonald's 1957 novel The Executioners, the new 10-episode show sees Bardem play Max Cady, a recently reintegrated killer who vows to get revenge on the attorneys who put him in prison. Said attorneys? Patrick Wilson's Tom and Amy Adams' Anna, who seem appropriately unsettled when he reintroduces himself to them in the promo. Check it out above.

Judging by certain shots in the teaser (and Adam's accent), the series has kept the deep-south setting of Scorsese's adaptation. No real surprise there, though, considering he's one of its executive producers alongside Stephen Spielberg. It looks pretty blood-soaked, too, which is more in keeping with his interpretation than MacDonald's book or J. Lee Thompson's more faithful flick from 1962. One thing to note, however, is that this version of the Bowdens have both a son and a daughter. In Scorsese's movie, they only had the latter.

It opens with Anna ominously asking Tom via voiceover: "You ever look around and wonder, 'Do we deserve all this?'" As the trailer goes on, and we see Cady terrorize the family in increasingly violent ways, that question gets a sinister twist, as it switches to Bardem's Cady muttering, "You deserve this" over and over.

As it plays out, we see shots of a kid being held underwater, Cady stalking the Bowdens' daughter, and someone being run over by a car. "Is there any way Max could know about what we did?" Anna quizzes Tom after a montage of chaos rolls out. Erm, yes, I think he may be onto you, Anna. Will they be able to stop him before he blows up their domestic bliss?

Hijack showrunner Jim Field Smith isn't quite ready to say that he'll be jumping into season 3 now that season 2 has reached its finale. But he's keeping his options open about where it could take place, including some absurd ideas and some potentially compelling ones as well.

"If Apple decide they want another bite of the Hijack cherry, the question I will always ask is, what story is there for Sam? Not, where can we do it, but why?" Smith tells Variety. "Of course, yeah, it could be on a boat. It could be on an e-bike, it could be in the back of a limo, it could be, you know, a submarine. Or it could transcend the Hijack format and it could move into a different arena. But that's what I mean. The precinct is kind of irrelevant. It's more about 'Where could Sam go?'"

Smith says he doesn't "really think so much like that" when asked if he's been brainstorming any actual plots for season 3 yet, saying that he prefers to consider whether there's a good story for lead character Sam Nelson (Idris Elba).

"I don't really think so much like that. I think more like, is there more story for Sam? It's not so much like, 'Oh, could we do it again?' Because, of course, you can do it again," Smith explains. "Do I want to do it again, that's a different conversation. Right now I've literally just delivered this season."

Yellowjackets star Sophie Nélisse has shared a cryptic clue about what fans can expect from the thriller show's fourth season, hinting that the final batch of episodes will "stay true" to season 1.

"Obviously, there's a lot of pressure coming into this season knowing it's the last one," she told The Hollywood Reporter, in between promoting hit hockey series Heated Rivalry and new horror movie Whistle. "We all feel a lot of responsibility in offering the audience a season that will live up to the expectations. That we'll close out the show, but stay true to the very first season, honoring all of the episodes at the same time.

"I think it'll be a really fun one," Nélisse, who plays teen Shauna, added. "Luckily, the showrunners have had time to write it and I think are very committed to putting in their all, so it's very bittersweet." She also confirmed that filming will officially kick off at the end of February.

While we're not sure Nélisse is being literal in drawing a link between season 4 and season 1, nods to early episodes and subplots wouldn't be out of place in Yellowjackets given its dual timeline. The show has tended to flit to relevant past events as the older versions of the plane crash survivors – played by Melanie Lynskey, Lauren Ambrose, Juliette Lewis, Simone Kessell, Tawny Cypress, and Christina Ricci – work through deep-buried traumas. Though, up until now, it has typically moved forward chronologically, as tensions in both the '90s and '20s escalate.

That said, season 3 did see Natalie and co. learn that young Misty (Samantha Hanratty) destroyed the plane's emergency transponder way back in season 1, episode 2. With that, we can assume that other long-hidden secrets will come to light.

Might we see another cameo from Ella Purnell's Jackie, who froze to death at the end of season 1, too? We'll have to wait and see... At this stage, it's as much as mystery to the actors as it is to us fans, according to Nélisse, who says she has "no idea" how the story is going to wrap up yet.

"People are like, 'Give us spoilers.' I'm like, 'I wish I could.' I have nothing myself. They're very secretive about what happens in this show. We literally get the scripts two weeks before shooting an episode, sometimes even a week."

Amy Adams is having a very bad day in the tense first look at Apple TV's Cape Fear remake. Fortunately, we're having a better time of it, with the streamer confirming when the show's premiere: June 5.

Based on Martin Scorsese's 1991 thriller of the same name, which was itself inspired by John D. MacDonald's 1957 novel The Executioners, the new 10-episode show is set to see Dune star Javier Bardem play Max Cady, a recently reintegrated killer who vows to get revenge on the attorneys that sent him to prison. Bad news for Adams' Anna and Patrick Wilson's Tom, who appear appropriately... concerned in the tension-filled trio of newly unveiled images.

While we've not got an awful lot to go on with the stills, it seems reasonable to assume that Adams and Bardem's are from the same scene, with both wearing fancy clothes and appearing to be at some sort of swanky event. Note the microphones, and it paints the picture that the grinning Cady has just presented himself to Anna for the first time since his conviction – and judging by her expression, she certainly hadn't expected to ever see him again.

In his snap, which you can check out below, Wilson is sporting a blue shirt and a furrowed brow while he stands in a lavish-looking yard. While we've not seen them in character yet, Joe Anders (1917), Lily Collias (Roofman), Jamie Hector (The Wire), Malia Pyles (Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin) and Anna Baryshnikov (Love Lies Bleeding) round out the ensemble cast.

In Scorsese's take, which was actually a remake of Gregory Peck's 1962 feature-length adaptation, Cady was brought to life by Robert De Niro, while Nick Nolte and American Horror Story's Jessica Lange played the married couple he was hellbent on ruining. Juliette Lewis (Yellowjackets) also starred as the Bowdens' daughter.

This time around, Nick Antosca, who genre fans will know as the guy who created horror anthology Channel Zero and Netflix's Brand New Flavor, acts as showrunner. When it comes to executive producing, Scorsese took on said duties alongside Adams, Bardem, and Steven Spielberg.

The legendary showrunner behind hit series like Lost, Watchmen, and The Leftovers has a new show in the works with HBO, and it has us gripped already.

HBO has given a straight-to-series order to Damon Lindelof's eight-episode-long limited drama The Chain, as reported by Variety. The series is part of a two-year overall deal that Lindelof signed back in September 2025. Lindelof will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner on the series.

The show is based on the award-winning novel of the same name by Adrian McKinty. Although HBO has yet to share an official synopsis for the series, the book follows a mother whose daughter is abducted, and the only way to get her back is to pay a ransom and find another child to kidnap. The twist is, the person who kidnapped her daughter is a parent themself, trying to save her own child from murder, further adding to a vicious chain.

However, expect the series to shake things up a bit as Variety reports that Lindelof's series will expand on the mythology of the book. In a statement, Lindelof said, "From the moment I heard the wild and original premise of Adrian’s book, I was shocked, surprised and angry I hadn’t thought of it myself… I’ve always wanted to try to adapt a great thriller and this one has all the dark, weird, exhilarating touches that fire up my imagination."

Lindelof is best known for leading the six-season-long survival drama series Lost, as well as DC Studios show Watchmen. However, Lindelof is currently working on HBO and DC's upcoming series Lanterns as co-creator and executive producer. As part of James Gunn's DCU Chapter One, Lanterns is set to hit screens later this year.

Yellowjackets star Sophie Nélisse has promised fans they'll have the "ultimate blast" with the thriller show's fourth and final season – and shared her big, somewhat conflicted hope for Shauna Shipman going into the last-ever episodes.

"It feels very bittersweet," the actor tells GamesRadar+ when we ask her how she's feeling ahead of the shoot kicking off in February. "I feel like these women have shaped who I am today, because I got to grow up alongside them, learn so much from them. It's really heartbreaking to finish a show that we have grown to love so much, and it is a dream job; the collaborative process, the characters, the arcs. I couldn't be more fortunate to have been on this show for the last couple of years."

Yellowjackets season 3 featured its fair share of jaw-dropping moments, from Natalie discovering that Misty destroyed their plane's emergency transporter not long after they crash-landed in the '90s to Van and Lottie both being violently murdered in the present day. It concluded with adult Shauna's husband Jeff and daughter Callie leaving her, with the former desperate to distance their kid from the unstable environment Shauna has forged over the years. "Part of me wants her to keep being so cruel, but part of me wants her to to end the show with some sort of hope and redemption that feels [justified]. I know she's created a good fan base of haters," Nélisse laughs. "I kind of hope that she'll be able to regain a bit more Shauna defenders out there. But yeah, I think we're as excited as the audience to see what these scripts are going to look like, and I'm sure that the writers are really going to give it their all to finish this season in, like, an ultimate blast."

In the last few moments of the latest episode, 'Full Circle', Sophie Thatcher's Natalie manages to contact someone through a satellite phone, which suggests the team will be rescued early on in season 4. Having hardly spent time with the teens outside of the wilderness, it'll certainly be interesting to see what those first few days back home look like for them all.

Before Nélisse returns as Shauna, though, she's set to team up with Deadpool and Wolverine's Dafne Keen to fight off time-travelling evil entities in new supernatural horror Whistle. Directed by The Nun's Corin Hardy, the film follows an unwitting group of high-school students who speed up their own deaths after blowing on a Grim Reaper-summoning Aztec whistle.

I have a confession to make. I'm getting a little burned out on so-called 'prestige television.' If I have to watch another 8 episode limited series about a dejected cop (or gangster) with a troubled past trying to wrestle control from chaos while wallowing in his own guilty conscience, I'm going to immediately fall asleep for 100 years.

Thankfully, while a century-long nap might actually help a little bit, there's a balm for the increasingly tired concept of the TV strongman - Tim Robinson's bizarrely tense and hilariously absurd HBO series The Chair Company.

Centering on a satirical send-up of the ever-present TV strongman archetype, The Chair Company feels like a pointed antidote to the egotistic nature of its thriller genre thanks to a healthy dose of self-aware humor and social cringe that highlight the increasing abandon of its ultimately milquetoast lead.

It's something along the lines of The Man Who Knew Too Little, with co-creator and star Tim Robinson holding up his own oddball mirror to a society that seems bound and determined to trade the concept of a social contract for the right to pursue a personal vendetta.

It's maybe the last word I personally need on the strongman genre, and a perfect counterpoint to the endless stream of po-faced, guilt-ridden trauma cops that will likely never stop patrolling our TV screens.

The ghost of Tony Soprano

The trend of prestige shows that lionize the concept of a lone wolf going outside the law to accomplish bad but necessary things with unilateral force goes back to the early days of the idea of TV shows that elevate themselves above typical network dramas.

In many ways, Tony Soprano is the prototypical strongman archetype of a man whose values (twisted as they are) are constantly tested as he moves deeper into his own nonsense, while justifying the results of his actions as necessary evils

The concept seemed to reach its apex with the one-two punch of Breaking Bad and its spin-off Better Call Saul – masterpieces in the narrative of a seemingly well-meaning man falling into an increasingly amoral vortex of desperation and unforeseen consequences. It's hard to top Walter White and Saul Goodman as disturbed men driven to incalculable social destruction.

But that doesn't seem to stop anyone from trying. In the last few months, I've seen at least 5 limited series about cops who are so haunted by their dead children and past mistakes that they go off the rails making whatever compromises they believe are necessary to their self-validating ends.

The trope also lives in some of the most successful prestige dramas of the present TV landscape, such as the ever-dominant Yellowstone, a show about a salt-of-the-earth land baron patriarch and his family resisting the encroachment of the outside world into their idyllic territory. It's yet another angle on the concept, and in this case, one that showcases the inherent messaging of the strongman archetype – that it is necessary to use any means, even illegal and amoral ones, to accomplish a personal ideal.

The TV strongman deconstructed

Some of the ongoing crop of strongman-centric dramas have had their charms – Netflix's Wayward gets by on inverting some of the genre's gender dynamics and on the strength of the performances of the show's creator, Mae Martin, and the always captivating Toni Collette, for example.

Still, it's Robinson and his co-creator Zach Kanin's The Chair Company that truly beats the horse to death in a well-deserved mercy killing with its madcap lead Ron Trosper (played by Robinson himself), a corporate executive and family man who becomes obsessed with unraveling the Gordian knot of a furniture sales company with inscrutable secrets at the expense of his personal commitments.

It all starts with the most unlikely of circumstances - Ron's chair collapses during an important company presentation, embarrassing him in front of his peers. Determined to make a complaint about the dangers of the faulty chair, he begins to dive ever deeper into a surprisingly creepy rabbit hole of abandoned warehouses, mercenary short-order cooks, and hoarder houses. Meanwhile, the chair company itself is nested in a seemingly endless web of shell companies, fake websites, and other odd twists.

It's easy to see how Robinson's Ron Trosper fits the basic ideas of the TV strongman: an ego-driven personal goal, an increasing distance between his family and his peers, and a willingness to bend his own morals and even the law to achieve satisfaction.

Nonetheless, there's a typically satirical edge to Robinson's performance in The Chair Company with enough social weirdness and absurdly lyrical characters to compare the show to Robinson's previous TV triumphs, Detroiters and I Think You Should Leave, and his recent film turn in the Paul Rudd co-starring Friendship.

An oddball underdog

What makes The Chair Company such an effective deconstruction of the concept is the overall unnecessary nature of Ron's personal conflict, coupled with the surprisingly unhinged circumstances that occur as a result of Ron's obsession with figuring out exactly whose fault it is that he was made to look slightly foolish in front of his bosses and subordinates.

In some ways, a journey like Walter White's makes sense – his desperation at life-altering circumstances drives him to build an ever-expanding criminal empire that forces him to adapt to the violence of the moment. But for Ron Trosper, the stakes are nothing, and there is no impactful tragedy driving his Quixotic quest for answers about defective office chairs.

By removing the actual stakes of such a story while ramping up the madness at the heart of its all-too-sincere lead character, The Chair Company manages to illustrate just how futile the excesses of the TV strongman genre can be.

Ultimately, the only real risk is that Ron Trosper will go from temporarily embarrassed to permanently off-the-rails, a fitting parable for a TV landscape that often feels dominated by self-serious anti-heroes whose only relatable quality is carrying the same thousand-yard stare I get when I see a cop flashing back to fishing with his dead son.

In a way, that's what makes a character like Ron Trosper more relatable, and also makes The Chair Company far more relevant than a show that invents windmills for its protagonists to tilt at rather than letting their unstable lead characters build their own hallucinated giants to slay.

The hero we deserve

That feeling of petty personal drive is something most people have experienced in one way or another – an interior notion that demands addressing in an outward way, no matter how trivial.

What sets most of us apart from Ron Trosper, however, is Ron's elevation of that kind of personal peccadillo into ego-fueled vigilante determinism, an inability to turn away from the gulf of self-aggrandizing obsession.

For someone like Ron Trosper, that need to feel important in a nihilist world is all-consuming, an endless fall into a privately-tailored hellhole of anti-Streisand Effect obscurity, a retreat from community exacerbated by every attempt to exert a level of control.

Given the state of the real world, The Chair Company is a timely reminder to examine the idea of morally questionable individual quests for relevance at the expense of self-growth, and to ask ourselves if those are truly the heroes we need right now.

It seems that only half of everyone's favorite pair of HBO's True Detectives are open to the possibility of returning. Mere months after Matthew McConaughey expressed his interest in reprising the role of Rust Cohle, his partner-in-crime, Woody Harrelson, has assured that there'd be no chance of him returning to see if the light's still winning as Marty Hart.

During an appearance on the 3rd Hour of Today (via Deadline), Harrelson was asked if he'd follow his former co-star back into that world of Yellow Kings and timelines that were circular, only to deliver a blunt response. “Matthew’s so funny. In fairness, never. No chance.” When pressed as to why he'd be against the idea, Harrelson seemed weary of wrecking such a groundbreaking moment in television history.

“Because it turned out great,” explained Harrelson. I love that it turned out the way it did, and if anything, doing another season would, I think, tarnish that.”

Currently, there's absolutely no talk of another chapter involving the grizzled and worn-down lawmen that started the anthology series. Since then, the show has hosted talents including Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell, Mahershala Ali, and Jodie Foster, all of whom have had their own cases to crack and problems of their own to deal with. The most recent big star rumored to be added to the list was Nicolas Cage, who would be the next to take the lead in a fifth series and tell a new story set in New York State. Last month, McConaughey gave his blessing for the screen legend joining the fold, saying, "He’s a great actor, and I’d like to see him in that world." It's just a shame that Rust and Marty won't be joining him.

Twin Peaks: The Return actor Patrick Fischler has joined the cast of Cape Fear, a new show from Apple TV.

Per Deadline, the show is "a tense, Hitchcockian thriller and an examination of America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century. In it, a storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden when Max Cady, a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison."

Cape Fear is based on the novel The Executioners by John D. MacDonald, which was first adapted into a movie in 1962 by J. Lee Thompson, starring Gregory Peck, and again in 1991 by Martin Scorsese. In Scorsese's version, Nick Nolte takes on Peck's role of attorney Sam Bowden and Robert De Niro plays Cady.

In the new series, Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson will play Anna and Tom, a new take on the Bowdens, with Bardem playing Cady. The cast also includes CCH Pounder, Ron Perlman, and Anna Baryshnikov. Fischler's character is currently undisclosed.

Maybe best known for playing Duncan Todd in Twin Peaks: The Return, Fischler also collaborated with David Lynch in Mulholland Drive, in which he plays one of the men in the iconic diner jumpscare scene who has the recurring nightmare about a terrifying presence at Winkies. He's also appeared in shows like Lost, Mad Men, and Californication.

Jessica Chastain's new thriller series The Savant has been pulled from Apple TV Plus's release schedule, just 3 days before it was set to premiere. Those who were planning on tuning in needn't worry too much, though, as the streamer has assured subscribers that it will air at some point.

"After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone The Savant," a spokesperson said in a statement on September 23. While they elected not to elaborate on the specific reason behind the delay, it is widely reported to be a consequence of current political unrest in the US. "We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date."

The show, which sees Chastain play "elite investigator" Jodi Goodwin, was originally scheduled to drop on September 26. It is now listed as "coming soon".

It is loosely inspired by a true story highlighted in a 2019 article from Cosmopolitan, which centers on Jodi as she "tracks angry men online" in an attempt to prevent large-scale public attacks. James Badge Dale (1923), Cole Doman, Dagmara Domińczyk (Succession), Pablo Schreiber (Halo), and former professional football player Nnamdi Asomugha round out the supporting cast.

Shortly after the announcement, Chastain took to social media to say that while she values her partnership with Apple, she is "not aligned" with the decision to postpone the show and that "honoring the courage" of the "heroes who work every day to stop violence before it happens" is "more urgent than ever. Black Mirror's Charlie Brooker has lined up his new collaboration with Netflix, and it sounds like the perfect mix of Mindhunter and Luther.

The writer-director is teaming up with Game of Thrones' Lena Headey, House of the Dragon's Paddy Considine, and Barbarian star Georgina Campbell for a "profoundly serious" crime thriller that follows a "tormented" detective based in the fictional Northern city of Bleakford. When a "ritualistic serial killer" starts offing people, said sleuth travels down to London to try and catch them before they run out of victims.

"Contains blood and frowning," reads the official synopsis. Something tells us this currently untitled project is going to be anything but "profoundly serious"...

Set to consist of four parts, the show will mark a reunion of sorts between Brooker and Campbell, after the latter appeared alongside Peaky Blinders' Joe Cole in Black Mirror season 4 episode 'Hang the DJ'. Brooker wrote the new series with Ben Caudell, Jason Hazeley, Emer Kenny, Dan Maier and Joel Morris. Victoria Asare Archer also provided additional material.

"I'm beyond thrilled to be saying these words for the press release," Brooker joked in a statement. "I've dreamt of providing a quote ever since I was a young foetus, and now here I am doing it. I'd pinch myself, but like all of us, I'm terrified that if I do that, I might wake up and discover 2025 has all been a magical dream. Please watch my show. I am begging you."

Dexter fans have been on an emotional rollercoaster this year, with popular prequel series Original Sin being renewed for season 2 only to be cancelled four months later. The other Dexter show released this year, Resurrection, seems to be moving forward after a successful release last month.

Fans are taking to social media to complain about this unexpected cancellation, using hashtags like #SaveDexterOriginalSin and #BringBackDexterOriginalSin.

"I'm truly devastated and so freaking mad...choosing to cancel #DexterOriginalSin when it was already renewed is just pure evil...the cast deserve so much better," said one fan.

"Dexter: Original Sin set records for Showtime & was their most streamed premiere ever at the time. The finale had even more viewers than the premiere & it became Showtime’s most streamed series in a DECADE. Then you cancel it AFTER an initial renewal?!," another fan pointed out.

"We were robbed! Such a stupid decision from Paramount Plus", added another X user.

"We needed more. The writers planned for us to see Dexter in his apartment, in the green Henley… we still had 15 years of stories left. Fans want more. We need more," argued another one.

Set in 1991, Original Sin served as the origin story of Michael C. Hall's iconic serial killer Dexter Morgan, with his younger version played by Patrick Gibson and Hall providing his voice for his inner monologue. The cast also included Molly Brown, Christina Milian, Christian Slater, James Martinez, Alex Shimizu, Reno Wilson, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Patrick Dempsey.

Back in February, showrunner Clyde Phillips talked about his ideas for season 2, teasing Dexter's evolution on screen. "We need to see him grow in several ways," he told ComicBook.com.

"You’ll have to learn how to blend better. He will have to learn how to kill better and more efficiently. So, next season, does he get his boat? Does he get his apartment? Does he start wearing the Henley? Does he start doing the red string thing? Those are things that we’re going to explore, it’ll be like coming home for the audience with the music, Michael [C. Hall]’s voice, which is crucial to the show," he added.

Unfortunately, we won't get to see any of that now, as the show is unlikely to be picked up again.

The Dexter universe continues, however, with Dexter: Resurrection, which is airing this summer. According to Variety, Paramount is "imminently" planning to open a writers room for a potential season 2 of the show, which is ending its first batch of episodes on September 5.

Almost three months after its release, Netflix has finally announced a second season of Dept. Q, and fans are thrilled. The Scotland-set crime series is one of the streamer's biggest hits in 2025, with the first season earning a spot in the Global Top 10 for six weeks.

A Discovery of Witches' Matthew Goode is set to reprise his lead role as DCI Carl Morck along with Alexej Manvelov as Akram, Leah Byrne as Rose, and Jamie Sives as Hardy. Netflix has confirmed the new season will be set once again in Edinburgh, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

An adaptation of Jussi Adler-Olsen's novels, the show was released on May 29 this year, landing an impressive 88% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 90% rating from users.

"Season 1 was so good, can't wait to see what happens in season 2," said one user on Twitter when the news of the renewal broke this morning.

Fans are excited to see Netflix giving a chance to this "great show", which many have compared with Apple TV Plus' hit series Slow Horses. Both UK-made shows focus on groups of misfits led by impossibly cranky bosses who defy the odds at their workplace and solve impossible cases from the sidelines.

"I binged it in a day and I’m not ashamed," wrote another user, while others reaffirmed their love for Manvelov's Akram, the sidekick archetype done right.

In an official statement released by Netflix, Matthew Goode reacted to the renewal, saying: "I'd like to thank Netflix for giving us the opportunity to further investigate Department Q's storylines. We have a wonderful cast and crew, headed by our resident genius Scott Frank. I cannot wait to read what comes from his magic quill!"

Last month marked the 50th anniversary of one of the most important movies ever made. Steven Spielberg's classic big shark thriller Jaws was released in 1975, two years before the original Star Wars, and is generally considered to be the first modern blockbuster.

Now Jaws is swimming back to Netflix in the US giving you the chance to revisit this fantastic film in its birthday year. The three sequels are on there too, but... well, let's not worry about those just yet, OK?

50 years on, it's remarkable how well the original Jaws stands up. When the coastal town of Amity Island is menaced by a hungry Great White shark, police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) joins forces with oceanographer Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss), and Robert Shaw's terrifying hunter Quint to slay the beast. They think they're prepared but... they're gonna need a bigger boat.

A troubled masterpiece

The making of Jaws is legendary – for all the wrong reasons. The film really was a case of triumph over adversity with the still young and comparatively inexperienced Spielberg battling numerous casting issues (less than a fortnight before the film was due to start shooting neither the vital roles of Quint or Hooper had been filled), malfunctioning prop sharks, and a costly (and at times dangerous) shoot at sea which resulted in the film going massively over budget.

It's a project that could have easily killed Spielberg's career, but thanks to a combination of his undeniable talent and a massive marketing campaign, Jaws was a huge hit. Audiences and critics alike loved the film for its suspenseful atmosphere, believable characters, and John Williams' iconic score. In the short term it went on to inspire legions of dodgy copycat "sharksploitation" movies that tried to cash in on Jaws' success. In the long term it paved the way for the blockbusters of today, and inspired numerous young directors.

Whiffy sequels

We should also grudgingly point out that Jaws was enough of a success that three sequels were made. These, should you need to scratch that completist itch, are also streaming now on Netflix.

1978's Jaws 2 at least isn't bad. Spielberg did not return (the film was instead helmed by Jeannot Szwarc) but Roy Scheider did, reprising his role as Brody. Although it's rather forgotten these days, the film – which once again sees a Great White attack Amity Island – was a big box office success, enjoying the highest grossing opening weekend of all time at that point. The reviews, however, were more mixed.

1983's Jaws 3 relocates the action to Orlando and follows Brody's son, Mike, played by Dennis Quaid. The film landed right in the middle of the 3D fad – indeed it was released in cinemas under the name Jaws 3-D – but while it did OK business, it was absolutely savaged in the press.

Remarkably, the fourth film, Jaws: The Revenge was even worse. Focusing on the now widowed Ellen Brody (Lorraine Gary, reprising her role from the original film), the movie infamously sees a vengeful shark follow Brody from New England to the Bahamas, presumably seeking payback for her late husband's actions in the first two movies. Roger Ebert, writing on the movie in the Chicago Sun-Times, described it as "not simply a bad movie, but also a stupid and incompetent one."

Should you stream Jaws?

This is an easy question to answer. Yes! Even aside from its lasting relevance, Jaws remains one of the greatest thrillers ever made. Filming at sea may have made Spielberg's life difficult, but it resulted in some incredibly immersive scenes as the hunters stalk the shark, only for it to terrifyingly turn the tables on them.

Scheider and Dreyfuss are likeable as Brody and Hooper, but it's Robert Shaw's unforgettable performance as Quint that really sells the danger they're in. There's a barely-concealed mania to the character, but also a surprising vulnerability. You want these three men to make it back alive... but the shark has other ideas, of course.

OK, so the sequels aren't great, but even they have some moments of trashy fun. So if you're in the mood for a movie marathon that starts with the sublime and ends with the ridiculous, then Jaws, Jaws 2, Jaws 3, and Jaws: The Revenge are all streaming now on Netflix in the US. The first movie is also available to stream on Netflix in the UK.

Slow Horses is not slowing down, as season 7 has already been confirmed ahead of the release of season 5.

The Apple TV Plus show has followed a fast-moving production plan since its release in 2022, and the numbers speak for themselves – with season 6 already filmed and the next batch of episodes set to start shooting in a few months, Slow Horses has produced seven seasons in only four years.

This is something of an exception in the streaming era, where fans are used to waiting several years to see new episodes of their favorite shows. With A-list stars in the cast and big sets to put together, some of today's biggest shows require a long production time.

Slow Horses, however, is moving at breakneck pace to deliver a new season every year – sometimes, even less than a year. Season 5 arrives on September, exactly one year after season 4, with season 7 filming at the same time (via Deadline). By the time all episodes of the new season are available to stream, two follow-up seasons will be already filmed.

It's true that Slow Horses has shorter seasons than other high-profile shows, with only six episodes per seasons, but this is still a tremendous feat. We could not be happier to see this excellent spy thriller series returning as quickly as possible, and growing bigger, better and bolder.

Based on a series of novels by Mick Herron, the London-set story follows a group of outcast MI5 operatives under the leadership of Jackson Lamb (played by Gary Oldman). Season 5 adapts the book London Rules, and will see everyone feeling suspicious of Roddy Ho's new girlfriend. "But when a series of increasingly bizarre events occur across the city, it falls to the Slow Horses to work out how everything is connected. After all, Lamb knows that in the world of espionage, the London Rules - cover your back - always apply," reads the official synopsis.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Oldman talked about the show, calling it "the wonderful gift that keeps on giving."

"I just adore the hell out of it, and the people. It is just such a wonderful thing really to be part of," he said, suggesting that the reason for the show's success lies in its relatable characters. "We are so sort of contaminated with the idea of the spy world being and casinos and Aston Martin’s that I think it connects with people because the people in it are ordinary people who do heroic things, without any gizmos," he explained.

Netflix's latest number one movie globally is a thriller titled Straw, and while viewers are loving it, critics haven't been as kind.

The film, which stars Taraji P. Henson and is directed by Tyler Perry, follows a struggling single mother named Janiyah living in poverty with her chronically ill daughter. Things quickly spiral out of control, and Janiyah ends up involved in a bank robbery.

Straw holds a critics score on Rotten Tomatoes of just 47% from 17 reviews, but audiences are sharing the love for the movie on Twitter.

"Tyler and Taraji better win their Oscars for this... Movies don't make you cry like this these days!" says one person.

"The way STRAW raises awareness on psychosis , and the different stages of grief! Beautifully done!" says someone else.

"Taraji P. Henson is one of THE BEST actress ever. #StrawNetflix was simply incredible and she deserves an Oscar. The emotion I felt watching this was insane. I cried from start to finish," shares someone else. "Single moms. We are incredibly strong."

"The storytelling, the raw emotion, the quiet moments in between – it felt so personal, so real. It reminded me of the weight we all carry, the love we lose or fight for, and the small gestures that can mean everything. This one brought me to tears," reads another reaction.

Netflix's current number one show, meanwhile, is Ginny & Georgia, which tops the weekly top 10 worldwide.

New crime thriller series The Survivors is climbing the Netflix charts, but it's slipped under the radar. Arriving on the streamer with seemingly little fanfare, the show doesn't even have a Rotten Tomatoes score yet from either audience or critics.

Since the show was released this past Friday (June 6), however, it's hit the top 10 worldwide and reached number four in the US, number three in the UK, number two in Australia and Ireland, and it's even hit the number one spot in Argentina and Venezuela (per FlixPatrol).

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power star Charlie Vickers plays Kieran, who returns to his hometown in Tasmania 15 years after the natural disaster that killed three people in his life. As if dealing with his past wasn't difficult enough, the local community is thrown into turmoil again when a young woman is murdered, and past secrets threaten to be thrown into focus again.

The six-part miniseries is based on the novel of the same name by Jane Harper. Her debut novel was adapted into the 2021 movie The Dry, starring Eric Bana and Genevieve O'Reilly, and a sequel based on her follow-up novel followed in 2024.

Tony Ayres is on board as showrunner, and the cast also includes Shannon Berry, Yerin Ha, Robyn Malcolm, Damien Garvey, Catherine McClements, and Don Hany.

Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk says if a spin-off does happen, it'll explain what happened in between season 1 and 2.

"If I make [a] spin off, it will be a story happening between Season 1 and 2. There [was] a three years gap between Season 1 and 2," Dong-hyuk told IndieWire. "So, I want to show what they did for those times."

Season 2 takes place three years after the events of Squid Game season 2, after Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) won the game. We don't know what happened during those three years, but we do know that he gave up on going to the United States and instead decided to return to the games in order to try and stop them once and for all.

The third and final season sees Gi-hun return yet again alongside a slew of new players, and this time the games are even deadlier. The trailer aired at Netflix's annual Tudum event, showing two particularly chilling scenes where we see the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) unmask himself and Gi-hun in a tuxedo, suggesting he's won again.

Though this is the end of Dong-hyuk's Squid Game, David Fincher is set to make an American version for Netflix. We haven't received any other details, but given Fincher's body of work... we're likely in for a compelling and harrowing time.

Slow Horses is back for another season this year, and we finally know exactly when we will be able to watch it – Apple TV Plus has confirmed the release date for the new season on September 24.

Gary Oldman is back as the brilliantly chaotic leader Jackson Lamb in another action-packed season, which will keep raising the stakes and delivering unexpected plot twists. The espionage show, based on Mick Heroon's book series Slough House (with season 5 adapting London Rules), follows a group of MI5 rejects who have been relegated to desk jobs but somehow still find themselves entangled with international espionage.

Season 5, per the official synopsis, will see everyone feeling suspicious "when resident tech nerd Roddy Ho has a glamorous new girlfriend, but when a series of increasingly bizarre events occur across the city, it falls to the Slow Horses to work out how everything is connected. After all, Lamb knows that in the world of espionage, the London Rules - cover your back - always apply."

The release date announcement arrived with a few new first-look images, which you can see below.

Along with Oldman, the cast of Slow Horses includes Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Ruth Bradley, James Callis, Tom Brooke and Jonathan Pryce. Ted Lasso star Nick Mohammed joined this season as a guest star.

The Apple TV Plus show first premiered in 2022 to wide critical acclaim, and it has now become one of the streamer's flagship shows.

Season 4 premiered in September 2024 to a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and Oldman confirmed earlier this year that filming on the already confirmed season 6 is already underway. It seems like the show is here to stay for the foreseeable future.

Netflix subscribers are calling for another season of new mystery thriller series Dept. Q just days after its release, with many already claiming it's "one of the best" shows of the last few years.

Starring A Discovery of Witches' Matthew Goode, it centers on "brash but brilliant" detective Carl Morck, as he leads a team of misfit officers tasked with solving Edinburgh-based cold cases. Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), Chloe Pirrie (who previously worked with creator Scott Frank on The Queen's Gambit), Alexej Manvelov (Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan), Kate Dickie (The Day of the Jackal), and newcomer Leah Byrne round out the cast.

Since the nine-part show, which currently holds an 83% Rotten Tomatoes score, premiered on May 29, it has been rapidly climbing the streamer's global TV chart, recently nabbing the #2 slot behind Sirens. With that, viewers have been taking to social media to sing its praises –  and urging others to tune in to ensure it gets greenlit for another chapter.

"Just finished. One of the best shows I’ve watched in the last 10 years. Just fucking phenomenal acting and dialogue. Loved every second of it," gushed one fan, as another tweeted: "Such a good crime thriller. Matthew Goode's acting was next level! I hope they make season 2 of this series."

"I finished the rest of the #Deptq episodes last night. I can't say enough about how good Goode's performance is in this one. I think with a better overall mystery, this show has the potential to be one of the best," said a third. "The ending was emotional and I can't wait for another season."

Some mentioned Manvelov's Akram as a particular highlight, with one viewer even going so far as to state he's "the best written Muslim character" they've ever seen on the small screen.

It's official - Yellowjackets has been renewed for season 4 on Paramount Plus. The high-concept cannibal drama is coming off a particularly successful season 3, so the renewal isn't exactly a shocker, but for the cult series' many fans, it's a sigh of relief.

Season 3 left off on one of the flashback timeline's biggest cliffhangers yet, with the surviving Yellowjackets finally making contact with the outside world. And in the present day timeline, things ended in an even more shocking place with surprise deaths, and escalating stakes that may leave just one Yellowjacket standing by the end of the series.

Yellowjackets tells the story of a team of teen soccer players from New Jersey who are stranded in the wilderness after a plane crash while on their way to play in a national championship. The story of their survival and return to society has played out alongside the present day misadventures of the remaining teammates as they try to prevent the secrets of their time in the wild being revealed.

George R.R. Martin is always committed to make his shows as epic as possible, and that not only applies to his writing. The Game of Thrones creator went above and beyond as producer of AMC's Dark Winds by lending the team his own train for the season 3 finale.

"I'd heard that we might be shooting the finale on the train, and I said, 'Oh my god, that would be incredible',” executive producer and director Chris Eyre told TV Insider in a recent interview. "Then it dawned on me, I've been on that train because, lo and behold, it's a train that George R. R. Martin, our producing partner, owns here in Santa Fe."

In the dramatic final episode of the season sees Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn (played by Zahn McClarnon) cornering a murderer on a train, pushing passengers aside during the chase and finally confronting him on an open flatbed. Eyre now revealed that the train scene was included into the finale only when Martin gave his permission to use his own train.

"How many people can say, 'Hey, I have a friend who owns a train and a rail line'? And so, there were conversations with George about [whether] we could shoot the train for the finale. So they wrote a script with the train, and I was over the moon," he recalled, adding: "It's one of those things that you hope to do as a filmmaker is do a train sequence and have that kind of landscape. It has all sorts of broad strokes towards the Western, which I love."

George R. R. Martin made a surprise cameo in the season 3 premiere of the show alongside fellow executive producer and Hollywood icon Robert Redford, so it's clear the author is very committed to make this show as epic as possible. He even makes an apparent dig at his long-delayed new novel, The Winds of Winter.

It's all over for Yellowjackets season 3, with the latest installment of the Showtime thriller coming to a climactic end this week. If you thought things might slow down as the new season reached its conclusion, think again: there are surprising plot twists, gruesome deaths, and shifting loyalties aplenty in episode 10.

It's a lot to take in, which is why we've recapped the dramatic season 3 finale and answered any burning questions you might have, including two of the show's biggest mysteries so far.

Yellowjackets season 3 ending explained

After Nat finds Misty with the plane's black box, she realizes it's her fault they haven't been rescued yet and punches her. Later, though, it seems they've enlisted Van's help to try and fix the transponder. Meanwhile, Lottie is dreaming about the Antler Queen. She then appears in the morgue with her adult self, who wakes up gasping on the gurney. She then finds herself in the stairwell where she died, asking, "Are you there?"

In the present day, Shauna is driving Tai home. Tai picks a spot to bury Van in the woods and refuses to let Shauna help. When she's left alone with Van's body, she cuts out her heart and eats it. Elsewhere, Misty finds Callie at school and accuses her of killing Lottie: she found a photo of her on Lottie's phone wearing Jackie's necklace and realized Shauna's DNA found under Lottie's fingernails was actually hers. Callie tells Misty that Lottie took the tape from her when Shauna kicked her out of their house, so Callie went to find her in NYC, where she showed her the stairwell lined with candles. Callie told her that she was worried her mother didn't love her, and Lottie said Shauna can't love her because she's "the child of that place" and Shauna is jealous that the wilderness lives on in her. Callie was upset by this pushed her down the stairs, accidentally killing her.

After speaking to Misty, Callie goes home and comes clean to Jeff. When Shauna arrives home, she finds they've both disappeared, taking their stuff with them. She goes to confront Misty, who tells her that Callie killed Lottie.

In the wilderness, Akilah discovers that all the animals they've been keeping in captivity have suddenly died. Lottie says it's a sign that they have to do another hunt to please the wilderness, and Tai asks Van to rig the card deck so Hannah is chosen to be the one hunted. We later learn that Akilah poisoned the animals at Lottie's instruction. On the morning of the hunt, Shauna suspects something is up during the card draw and switches her place in the drawing order, which means Mari gets the Queen of Hearts instead of Hannah.

Mari gets a head start running through the woods, but Nat diverges from the others and takes the satellite telephone from its hiding spot. She realizes Hannah is following her, but she promises Nat that she just wants to survive and get out of the wilderness. After a long, tense chase through the forest, Mari falls into the concealed pit and dies, impaled on the spikes. Melissa attacks Shauna and tries to kill her, but she can't do it and Shauna says that she "knew you'd turn out to be boring."

Back in the present, Tai meets up with Misty. She blames Shauna for Van and Nat's deaths and says she was the worst of them in the wilderness, and asks Misty if she really wants Shauna to be the last one of them standing. Back at her house, Shauna finds Melissa's note where it's fallen under the fridge, and discovers that it wasn't at all antagonistic.

The episode ends with Lottie dressing Shauna up like the Antler Queen, complete with a robe decorated with Mari's hair. The other girls are still in their face-concealing hunting garb, and Shauna discovers Hannah has disguised herself as Nat, who is now missing. Nat, meanwhile, has run off to higher ground with the satellite phone in search of signal. Using the transponder, she desperately tries to make contact – and the season ends with a voice saying "hello" on the other end. Could rescue finally be on the cards in season 4?

Who is 'Pit Girl'?

Ever since the opening scene of the Yellowjackets pilot, which showed a dark-haired girl chased into a pit filled with spikes, fans have been theorizing about the identity of the so-called 'Pit Girl'. We never saw her face, but her dark hair led many to guess it was Mari. The season 3 finale finally gave us an answer: Pit Girl was Mari, after all.

Who killed Lottie?

The Yellowjackets season 3 finale also revealed who was responsible for Lottie's death, and it wasn't who we were expecting. Although several of the adult survivors had a motive for her murder, it was actually Shauna's daughter Callie who killed her: she pushed her down the stairs after Lottie told her that her mother wasn't able to love her.

Will there be Yellowjackets season 4?

Yellowjackets hasn't been renewed for season 4 yet, but the show's creators have previously said that they originally pitched five seasons. There's still a bonus episode on the way, too, which was meant to be released pre-season 3 but was subsequently delayed.

As we wait to see what's next for her character on Apple TV Plus' hit show Severance, Britt Lower has joined the cast for a new Harlan Coben adaptation on Netflix, I Will Find You. Avatar star Sam Worthington was previously announced as the lead.

The main cast of the upcoming show also includes This is Us star Milo Ventimiglia, Logan Browning, and Gotham's Erin Richards, as announced by the streamer this week.

Based on Coben's novel of the same name, published in 2023, the story follows an innocent father, David (Worthington), serving life in prison for the murder of his own son. When he receives evidence that his child may still be alive, he decides to break out of prison to find out the truth.

Lower will play Rachel Mills, David’s ex-sister-in-law and former decorated reporter who views this story as her opportunity to restore her journalistic career.

Coben's overall deal with Netflix is consistently delivering binge-watchable thriller shows on streaming, with titles like Missing You and particularly Fool Me Once proving incredibly successful with viewers. Fool Me Once, released in January 2024, seats now at number eight on the streamer's top 10 most-watched English language series of all time.

There are other adaptations on the way, with the next one set to be Run Away, based on the 2019 book of the same name. It was also revealed that Harlan Coben's new novel, Nobody's Fool, is actually a sequel to the hit Netflix adaptation of Fool Me Once, so you can run to the stores now if you want to know what happens next.

In the meantime, another adaptation of an earlier Harlan Coben novel, Just One Look, was quietly added to Netflix last month, and it was described as an "edge-of-your-seat" thriller.

George R. R. Martin made a surprise cameo in the TV show Dark Winds, with an apparent dig at his long-delayed new novel, The Winds of Winter. The scene is in the season 3 premiere, and he’s not the only famous face involved.

We got the first episode of Dark Winds season 3 this week, featuring a pair of true ne'er-do-wells in holding. Joe Leaphorn stops by to check on them, revealing a chess game, with Martin on end, thinking of his next mode of attack, and opposite him? Hollywood icon Robert Redford, who delivers a choice dig.

"George, the whole world's waiting, make a move," Redford’s character exclaims. Martin’s prisoner remains tentative, until Joe gives him a winning tactic.

If only finishing the next installment of A Song of Ice and Fire, the inspiration behind Game of Thrones, was so simple. Martin and Redford are both executive producers on Dark Winds, itself an adaptation of another book series by Tony Hillerman about various cases tackled by Joe and his fellow detective Jim Chee, so it's not totally random to see them.

Any public appearance by Martin garners the same response of people wondering when we’ll get to read the sixth part of A Song of Ice and Fire. It's been 14 years since the last book, A Dance With Dragons, and we've had scattered updates since, including from Martin, who says progress is being made.

To be fair, he's had his hands full since 2011, helping with Game of Thrones itself, collaborating with FromSoftware on the game Elden Ring, and all manner of other exploits, including just recently opening his own cocktail bar. Several more of his works have been adapted, with In a Lost Lands starring Milla Jovovich about to arrive in theatres.

Of course, House of the Dragon season 3 will continue the history of Westeros, looking at the Targaryens years before the events of Game of Thrones. Netflix has released the first full-length trailer for You season 5, and it looks like the walls might finally be closing in on Joe Goldberg.

After taking a trip to London in season 4 and starting a new life as a college professor, Joe is back where it all began in New York City for the show's final season. He's now married to Kate (Charlotte Richie), and his socialite spouse has catapulted him into the limelight – which may spell bad news for our favorite serial killer.

The trailer teases some unsavoury coverage in the press ("They've made me the most visible man in New York"), which brings him to the attention of someone claiming to be friends with Peach Salinger, Shay Mitchell's season 1 character who Joe killed in Central Park. "If anyone knows anything about Joe Goldberg, we want to know," a woman says in a public appeal. "That psycho absolutely killed my best friend Peach." There's also a shot of Nadia, Joe's former student who he framed for season 4's murders, in jail – is she plotting revenge?

For now, though, Joe is also back working in the bookstore, which is where he meets Bronte, played by The Handmaid's Tale's Madeline Brewer. She's his new love interest, and he seems to be back to his old tricks. Go figure.

There will be 10 episodes in season 5 and they're all dropping at once, unlike season 4, which was released in two parts. Alongside Brewer, new cast members for the show's final installment include True Blood's Anna Camp and She-Hulk's Griffin Matthews.

Earlier this week, The Recruit joined the list of canceled TV shows in 2025 – and fans think Netflix's scheduling is to blame.

The espionage series was axed by Netflix just over a month after the second season dropped on the streamer. Noah Centineo plays CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks, whose life is turned upside down when he becomes entangled in an international conspiracy. Although the show debuted in the Netflix top 10 upon release on January 30, it was competing with another spy thriller.

The Night Agent season 2 was released just a week earlier, on January 23, and surpassed The Recruit's viewing figures. Viewers seem to believe that this contributed to The Recruit's cancelation, as subscribers were tuning into The Night Agent instead.

"We can't have nothing, man. Always canceling stuff. And it's Netflix's fault for releasing at the same time as S2 of The Night Agent, which wasn't as good as S2 of The Recruit," said one viewer.

"Netflix canceling The Recruit is an absolute crime. Top 2 shows were The Night Agent and The Recruit, and you guys released a week apart... viewing numbers are on you. We tried to watch them both as quickly as possible," tweeted another.

"They released this at the same time with Night Agent season 2 and this was better than Night Agent season 2. What a waste. A new platform needs to pick this up," echoed someone else.

"It’s Netflix’s own fault for placing The Recruit one week after The Night Agent," wrote another.

"It is very disappointing to hear Netflix canceling The Recruit after 2 Seasons. I was worried earlier this year when it was released in the same time window as Night Agent, I guess suspicion confirmed," someone else posted.

Mere weeks after the second season arrived on Netflix, The Recruit has been cancelled. First revealed by one of the show’s stars, the platform has since confirmed the decision, ending the thriller series after season 2's twist ending.

Word broke of The Recruit receiving an untimely dismissal from Colton Dunn, a co-star on the TV show. "The Recruit has been cancelled y'all. Such a bummer. Thanks if you watched," he wrote on Threads, adding that he’s now available for work.

Netflix then gave confirmation to TVLine. The series starred Noah Centineo, of To All The Boys fame, as the fresh-faced CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks who becomes drawn into various diplomatic nightmare through his cases.

The eight-episode first season arrived in December 2022, jumping straight in at number three on Netflix's own charts, remaining in the top 10 for eight weeks in total. The second season, slightly shorter at six episodes, premiered this past January, landing in second place this time on the streaming service's in-house metrics.

The 2023 Hollywood strikes caused some delays to The Recruit season 2, hence the almost three-year gap between new episodes. It wound up in the relatively undesirable position of playing second fiddle to The Night Agent, another episodic bit of espionage on Netflix that's proven to be a smash.

Creator Alexi Hawley, who's worked on several successful shows including Castle and The Rookie, was optimistic about getting another renewal in an interview with Deadline for season 2. "There’s a lot of goodwill inside Netflix towards the show and towards Noah; I think they very much feel like Noah is a homegrown star, which he is," he said. "So, I’m feeling super positive about it, as positive as you can feel in this town at this time."

A new thriller series based on a 2004 Harlan Coben novel has hit Netflix - and early reviews are calling it "binge-worthy."

Per the official synopsis, "Grace's life unravels when an old photo shows her husband and others, one with a crossed-out face. Grace searches for him, realizing he's been kidnapped while her kids are threatened. The truth leads back to Grace's past trauma."

The cast includes Maria Dębska, Cezary Łukaszewicz, Piotr Stramowski, Mirosław Zbrojewicz, Marta Malikowska, Mirosław Haniszewski, Monika Krzywkowska, Andrzej Zieliński, Dorota Pomykała, Magdalena Osińska, and Mirosław Kropielnickis.

One early review calls the six-episode mini-series "binge-worthy," with one Twitter user calling it an "edge-of-the-seat thriller" and a must-watch for Harlan Coben fans." It's worth noting that a made-for-TV adaptation of the 2004 novel hit UK TV in 2020, though it went largely under the radar.

Just One Look is one of the many adaptations that are part of Coben's overall deal with Netflix. Fool Me Once hit the streamer in early 2024 and immediately reached no. 1 on the global streaming charts. Missing You premiered on January 1 and immediately hit the top of the global streaming charts. Safe, also based on Coben's novel of the same name, hit the streamer in 2018, with The Stranger premiering in 2022. Run Away, based on the 2019 book of the same name, is the next adaptation and is set to premiere sometime in 2026.

A new clip for You season 5 has been released ahead of the show's epic finale on Netflix. Will the disturbingly charismatic Joe Goldberg end up getting away with murder... again?

"Love tests us. I've been tested more than most. This is the last time", Penn Badgley's Joe starts saying in the new footage, while getting ready to go out. "I came from nothing. A true rags-to-riches story. I've been through it all. Unlucky in life and in love until I met you", he adds, referring to Kate (played by Charlotte Ritchie).

"Who knew I would become the luckiest guy in New York?," he says looking at the mirror, confirming he is still as delusional about himself as ever. Unfortunately, the teaser doesn't reveal any more details about the upcoming final season, but it does give us a taste at the show's chilling return.

The new episodes will follow Joe's attempt to start a new life with Kate following the shocking London-set events of You season 4 part 2's ending. Now he is back where everything started, New York, where plenty of memories and secrets are threatening to come to the surface.

"Every season they manage to find new space to make it interesting and relevant. And this season, I think somehow coming back to where it started allowed for it to just become grounded in the way that it needs to also have this kind of spectacular finish," Badgley told Tudum about the final season.

Netflix teased season 5 of the show last month, first with a date announcement teaser that took us on a trip down memory lane, and later with a teaser trailer that showed Joe getting trapped in his own glass box.

Along with Badgley and Ritchie, You season 5 sees the return of Tati Gabrielle as Marienne, and adds new cast members including True Blood's Anna Camp as twins Raegan and Maddie Lockwood, and The Handmaid's Tale star Madeline Brewer as Bronte.

The fifth and final season of You will run for 10 episodes, all of them set to drop on Netflix on the same day. Unlike the previous season, this one won't be split into two halves, so get ready for some serious binge-watching that weekend.

Zero Day, a new Netflix series starring Robert De Niro, hit the streamer yesterday (February 20), but the political conspiracy thriller has had seriously mixed reviews despite its star-studded cast.

De Niro plays former President George Mullen, who's pulled out of retirement to lead the investigation into a deadly cyberattack. The cast also includes Jesse Plemons, Lizzy Caplan, Angela Bassett, Dan Stevens, Bill Camp, and Matthew Modine.

The series currently holds a critics' score of 57% and an audience score of 49%, with reviews praising De Niro but criticizing everything from the dialogue to the pacing.

"The main reason to keep watching is De Niro, whose star power drives the show. Enjoy watching a master at work, even if he looks as if he could do this stuff in his sleep," says the Daily Telegraph's review.

The Times is more positive, writing "This manages to meld the addictive nature of traditional network TV with Netflix’s glossy production values to produce a highly watchable drama."

"Zero Day is not quite as sleek and sure-footed as it probably wants to be. It is nonetheless compelling, a sprawling mystery unfolding at steady pace over six episodes," says Vanity Fair.

RogerEbert.com is also complimentary of the cast – but not so much of anything else. "One of the most overqualified ensembles in the history of television keeps Zero Day watchable, but you have to turn off your brain to stop it from making you crazy," their review reads.

"At six episodes, Zero Day” still feels too long, a sign it probably should have just been a Netflix movie," says TheWrap.

"There are so many groan-worthy lines here, and far-fetched scenarios, that it’s hard to take any of the insights this show has about our current political climate all that seriously," AV Club writes.

Yellowjackets star Simone Kessell's character Lottie may have left her cult leading days behind her, but she's got a new focus in season 3: Shauna's teenage daughter Callie (Sarah Desjardins).

The season 2 finale saw Lottie admitted to a psychiatric facility after she tried to rope the other survivors into a hunting ritual reminiscent of their time in the wilderness that ultimately resulted in the death of Nat (Juliette Lewis). By the time season 3 episode 2 rolls around, though, she's back out in the world – and looking to stay with Shauna (Melanie Lynskey). It's during her time in the Sedeki household that she starts to bond with Callie, who she first encountered in the season 2 finale.

"I think she's intrigued by her," Kessell tells GamesRadar+. "At the end of season 2, we see Callie come in with a gun and she shoots Lottie, and she sees something in her which is bringing her back to the wilderness, so to speak. I think she believes that Shauna's child is perhaps the chosen one, or something. There's intrigue there, for sure. So she spends a lot of time casting her eyes on her and giving her a lot of attention. But yeah, Lottie is definitely intrigued."

It's been almost two years since the dramatic end of season 2, but season 3 picks up only a few weeks later in the present-day timeline. Kessell and Lynskey are joined by other returning cast members Christine Ricci, Tawny Cypress, Lauren Ambrose, and Elijah Wood.

Yellowjackets star Tawny Cypress has teased that not everything is as it seems for her character in season 3. The actor plays the present-day version of Taissa Turner, a headstrong soccer player as a teen and current "disgraced" politician who often falls into a disassociative fugue state that involves horrifying visions of the 'Man with No Eyes'.

"I'm winging it," Cypress laughs when GamesRadar+ asks her what it was like to explore a darker side of Taissa in season 3. "It's a completely made-up character so I don't have to base it on anything, which is fantastic because you're gonna see a lot of her this season. You're gonna realize that maybe you've been seeing more of her than you thought you were."

Along with Taissa's demons, her reconnection with high school sweetheart Van, played by Lauren Ambrose, is also at the forefront of season 3's present-day timeline. The two met for the first time in years in season 2, but Van kept Tai at arm's length. That's all about to change, though.

"We find Van as an adult and this character has got this, like, hard shell, and she's really pushed away all of the wilderness and isn't in touch with anyone," Ambrose tells us. "I guess there's sort of a softening in rekindling this important relationship with Taissa. They just need each other, and they're just cosmically connected to each other."

In Yellowjackets season 3, things are getting weird. Of course, teenage plane crash survivors participating in cannibalistic hunting rituals in the Canadian wilderness is already pretty weird, but the series is upping the ante for its third installment.

The season 2 finale, which aired back in 2023, certainly opened the door for – to put it bluntly – shit to hit the fan. In the present-day timeline, Misty (Christina Ricci) accidentally killed Nat (Juliette Lewis) during a confrontation at Lottie's (Simone Kessell) cult-like wellness retreat, and the girls' only shelter burned to the ground in the '90s timeline. There's a lot of rage and grief, then, being carried into season 3 – although you wouldn't know it immediately.

There's been a time jump in both timelines since the end of season 2, but it's more pronounced in the wilderness: it's summer now, so about six months have passed, while in the present day only six weeks have passed since the season 2 finale. Warmer weather means the girls aren't in any imminent danger of meeting a similar fate to Jackie (Ella Purnell) at the start of season 2 and freezing to death, while in the 21st Century only Misty seems particularly cut up about Nat's death (although for good reason).

Rising tensions

It soon becomes apparent, however, that tensions are high in the wilderness and pre-existing splinters are starting to become more prominent cracks. Shauna (Sophie Nélisse), still overwhelmed with grief for Jackie and the baby she miscarried, has issues with Nat and Mari in particular, and Nélisse is a standout among the younger cast. She's almost uncanny in the way she channels Melanie Lynskey's performance as the adult version of Shauna into her own, capturing her anger, grief, and volatility – you could even be convinced the show had just used VFX to de-age Lynskey for the '90s scenes.

Against this increasingly fraught backdrop, the girls are moving further away from regular routines and life is becoming more ritualistic for the survivors. Since the cabin burnt down at the end of season 2, the girls are living in handmade wooden shelters instead and they're beginning to lose sight of normality: in episode 1, they're in the midst of a summer solstice celebration that involves one half of the group waiting on the other, for example. The show is starting to more heavily embrace its spookier elements and there are some genuinely creepy moments in the first four episodes that were available to press.

Although Nat (Sophie Thatcher) is the leader of the camp after she survived the hunt at the end of season 2, Lottie (Courtney Eaton) is pulling the strings from the backseat, manipulating Travis (Kevin Alves) into convening with the wilderness (under the influence of hallucinogenic substances) to increasingly unsettling results. There are some surreal dream sequences that get pretty wacky, too, and the show is at its best when it leans all the way into its kookier – and scarier – side.

Ghost stories

Meanwhile, 30 years later, the present-day timeline is still slower-paced with lower stakes, similar to how it was in season 2. Unlike last season, though, there are several unexpected twists that open up new threads of intrigue and promise to avoid the often languid pace and narrative dead ends that threatened to plague this part of the show's second season.

Van (Lauren Ambrose) and Taissa's (Tawny Cypress) re-developing relationship is one of two main storylines propelling the present-day timeline in the first four episodes, although Taissa's (ex?-)wife and son are now a bit too conveniently out of the picture. Taissa is succumbing further to the ideology of the wilderness, talking of "sacrifices" and "gifts", and plagued by more visions of the Man with No Eyes than ever. Van is going along for the ride, for now, but she's still dealing with her terminal cancer, as well as the emotional toll of reconnecting with her teenage traumas – and teenage sweetheart.

As for Shauna (Lynskey) and Misty, they're at odds with each other in a subplot that feels a little forced. With Nat out of the picture now, it kind of feels like the show is unsure of what to do with Misty. While Misty is still haunted by Nat's death, though, Shauna continues to be tormented by Jackie's from 30 years earlier – Purnell's appearance in the trailer hinted that Jackie's chokehold on Shauna would show no sign of loosening in season 3, and her presence is still being keenly felt in both timelines.

There's also another ghostly presence lurking just out of sight for Shauna, but the identity of that person joins the pile of other unanswered Yellowjackets questions. It's fun to have a new mystery to sink our teeth into, though, and the question marks only start to multiply as the season progresses.

As with any mystery-heavy thriller, the proof is in the pudding, and Yellowjackets season 3 will likely live or die by how well the show sticks its landing. Based on episodes 1 to 4, though, it's looking promising – we just hope it continues to keep it weird.

Netflix has unveiled the first look at Alice in Borderland season 3 – and the joker looms large after the new installment (no, not that one).

"You’re not ready for the final game," Netflix tweeted alongside the teaser art, which you can see below. It shows three figures standing on a rooftop looking up at a large joker card in the sky. Season 2 ended with a close-up of the joker on a table full of playing cards, alluding to a character that we've yet to meet in the show.

Set in an abandoned version of Tokyo, Alice in Borderland sees people forced to participate in dangerous games, the difficulty of which is demonstrated by different playing cards, that enable them to extend their 'visas' in the city – and stay alive for longer in an attempt to get back to the real world. When their visas expire, players are executed by lasers that are shot from the sky.

Starring Kento Yamazaki, Tao Tsuchiya, Nijirō Murakami, Ayaka Miyoshi, Aya Asahina, and Dori Sakurada, the show is based on the manga of the same name by Haro Aso. Season 1 premiered in 2020 and season 2 followed in 2022, with the second installment debuting to 61.2 million viewing hours, the most in a week for a Japanese series on the streamer. The show was renewed for a second season just two weeks after it first dropped on Netflix, but fans had to wait a year for confirmation of season 3.

You don't have to remember a random set of words to get an update on the third season of The Night Agent – Netflix has thankfully just released a juicy morsel themselves.

Following another successful and explosive second season, the streaming service revealed on Twitter that season 3 is in production and will have our top agent, Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), once again sprinting down well-lit streets and telling whoever is unfortunate enough to be in the passenger's seat of whatever car he's in to "hang on."

The footage, shot in Istanbul, shows Basso prepping for fight scenes and a chase sequence that we can guarantee will leave his ride with a few scuff marks and probably a dented wing mirror. This secret snippet also comes after Basso told Games Radar+ in an exclusive interview that the first episode had already been shot and that it housed what he deemed "the strongest opening of all seasons."

Understandably, though, that's all the information we're getting regarding Sutherland's next operation. When we last left him, Peter was tasked with a mission by his handler, Catherine Weaver (Amanda Warren), that was so secret, so hush-hush, that there aren't records of it in the Night Action program. In fact, we're expecting red dots to appear on our screens any time now just by typing this.

But while Peter might be off the radar, one person that's off his is his former love interest, Rose (Luciane Buchanan), who decided to call it day in regards to their relationship. For all we know, that chapter is seemingly closed in Sutherland's story (we hope not), and that's exactly how Basso likes it.

"What I love about this show is that it never ends on a cliffhanger that is expecting you to come back. It closes the storylines introduced in that season then at the very end, introduces a new question. But it's not a leave you hanging note, you don't feel like things weren't resolved. I feel really good about where season 2 ends and how season 3 picks up, Shawn [Ryan, showrunner] and the writers pay it off well." The first trailer for Zero Day, starring Robert De Niro, has arrived - and it looks like an epic political thriller.

In the brief clip, which can be viewed below, De Niro plays former U.S. President George Mullen who is tasked by the current U.S. president (Angela Bassett) with finding the perpetrators of a devastating cyber attack that killed over 3,000 people.

It's far from easy, especially given that the public seems to view him as an enemy - not to mention the fact that another attack could happen at any given moment. "If the public finds out how deep this really is," Bassett says, "I don't think we really survive that."

Per the official synopsis, "As disinformation runs rampant and the personal ambition of power brokers in technology, Wall Street, and government collide, Mullen’s unwavering search for the truth forces him to confront his own dark secrets while risking all he holds dear."

The series is co-created and co-written by Eric Newman, who served as the showrunner of the Netflix series Narcos and its spin-off Narcos: Mexico. The cast includes Jesse Plemons, Lizzy Caplan, Connie Britton, Joan Allen, Bill Camp, Dan Stevens, McKinley Belcher III, Matthew Modine, Clark Gregg, and Gaby Hoffman. Zero Day also marks De Niro's second-ever television role as a series regular, with the first being the Argentine limited series Nada, which aired exclusively on Disney Plus.

The Night Agent season 2 hasn't even been released yet, but the filmmakers are already hard at work shooting the upcoming third season.

Following the show's instant success at Netflix, becoming the streamer's most watched series of 2023 and one of their most popular shows ever, the political thriller was renewed for two more seasons, which is perhaps a surprise given how the streaming service has a reputation for cancelling TV shows.

And it looks like fans are in for a treat with star Gabriel Basso, who portrays agent Peter Sutherland, teasing to GamesRadar+ in a recent interview that The Night Agent season 3 is quite simply "fantastic".

Continuing, Basso confirmed that work on the first episode of the third season is already complete and not only does it feature stunts he can't believe were given the green light, but for him it is the "strongest opening of all seasons" – which is certainly quite the statement given how impressive the previous ones have been.

As Basso reveals: "I don't love acting, honestly, I'm not really psyched about this business, but season 3 I'm very excited about. I think the crew down in Istanbul were amazing. The stuff we were able to get on camera that was unplanned was nuts. I do some stunts in there that I can't believe Netflix signed off on.

"Just from top to bottom, we were able to get some stuff. The actors all killed it. The action was insane. If I'm ranking the three seasons in their openings, this is our strongest opening of all seasons. And that’s just in one episode, we’re not even done with the second one – it’s insane."

Naturally very little about the upcoming third season has been revealed to the world – in fact, all we really know is that it's currently filming with Basso reprising his role. However, it looks like The Night Agent season 2 will give us some clues on the direction it will take with Basso adding that the finale directly sets up the next chapter.

Without giving away any spoilers, the actor teases that the final episode sets up the events of The Night Agent season 3, but it's not a cliffhanger that will leave fans dangling desperate for answers (looking at you Squid Game season 2).

As he explains: "What I love about this show is that it never ends on a cliffhanger that is expecting you to come back. However, Basso does add that certain sub-plots will continue, with the presidential election playing out in the background of season 2 featuring more prominently in the next season. Of course, the US did just have an election in real life so was that on the writers' minds or is it just a coincidence that it plays into these two seasons of The Night Agent?

Basso admits he isn't too sure, then joking that maybe the writers know something we don't as that's not the only coincidence: "It might have been that it was on their minds. It also plays into, having read season 3, it's a big plot point in the continuation of Hagen [one of the presidential candidates], his spot throughout season 2. So it does… but I'm not sure that it was so much informed by what was happening in real life.

"The weird one too was Isfahan in Iran [there is an Iranian storyline this season], that had some real world implications as well. I was like, 'what is going on?' The writers know something. The writers are The Simpsons people apparently with these predictions."

Not only will The Night Agent season 3 continue to follow the presidential election, but Basso teases that characters will also face the consequences of their actions from the second season. To reveal more details would be delving into spoilers, but Basso is right in that this is a theme with every season of The Night Agent, making it more realistic which is why it stands out within the thriller genre.

He concludes: "I love that there are consequences. So many times with these sort of shows and movies, characters make decisions that don't result in anything, and you're like, 'Dude, you just betrayed your country. How are they just okay with you doing this?'

"It's main character syndrome, the writers are aware of how popular the main character is and there's plot armor and all that stuff. I think this show is refreshing in the sense that Peter never feels insulated from consequence. And I think season 3 is a really good example of that, and so is season 2."

After becoming Netflix's most watched show in 2023, The Night Agent is back with a clear mission statement for its second season – bigger and better. Every part of the hit thriller show has been ratcheted up several notches, with agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) working in new locations, including Bangkok and New York, to unravel an international conspiracy.

As well as a bigger scope, fans can expect more intense action, with Basso revealing in an interview with GamesRadar+ that this time around they pulled off stunts that they simply couldn't get away with on the first season.

Due to the show's success, becoming one of the streaming service's most popular series of all time, the stunt team were given more time to choreograph the action sequences, meaning they could really experiment and go all in. As Basso explains: "We weren't able to get away with stuff like it on season 1, we didn't have time to put thought into it. Josh, our fight choreographer, worked really hard on it, so it was just great to see everybody and their visions come together to do something impactful. They were a lot of work."

Arguably the two stand-out action scenes in The Night Agent season 2 are a rough basement brawl and a fight in a lab where everyone is wearing a gas mask. For Basso, the latter was a hard one to film: "The actual fighting in a gas mask is rough because you can't really see peripheral punches, your mask fogs up, and it's tough to breathe in it. So you have beats to hit, choreography to memorize, marks to hit, but you just can't see what's going on. It's difficult."

Whilst that fight sequence was indeed the toughest to film, Basso reveals that the basement brawl is his favorite, even though it did lead to some bloody on-set injuries.

Despite that, the star is proud of how the improvisation in that action scene helped make it more realistic: "I'd say my favorite is the basement fight. It feels very grounded and you feel the hits. We took some actual spills that hurt a little bit. When I kick off the cupboard, we weren't supposed to go to the ground. I think I hit my head, cracked it on the wall behind me, but the stuntman and I just sort of stayed in it and I slammed him against the breakaway wall."

One of Netflix's biggest shows of all time is back on our screens this week as The Night Agent returns. And this time around the stakes are higher than ever before as agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) must prevent a looming attack in New York City.

Following the events of the first season, which was Netflix's most watched show in 2023, Peter has been officially promoted, moving from behind the desk to into the field as a Night Agent.

Mentoring him is fellow Night Agent Alice, played by Pitch Perfect star Brittany Snow who, according to the show's production notes, originally auditioned to play female lead Rose Larking for season 1. Whilst Luciane Buchanan was ultimately cast as the tech expert and Peter's love interest, Snow now joins the cast as super spy Alice.

When GamesRadar+ mentions that Snow was originally up for the role of Alice to lead actor Basso in a recent interview, he admits he had no idea that was the case saying: "I didn't know anything about that. That's cool. It all worked out. She was great!"

With Snow's filmography mostly comprising of musicals like Hairspray and rom-coms such as John Tucker Must Die, audiences might be surprised to see her in an action heavy role. However, for Basso that's why Snow is perfect for the part as it shows that really anyone can be a Night Agent, with the program requiring a wide array of skills.

He explains: "It's really cool that we can both be doing the same job. You know typically I think people would look at Peter, someone who's physical and can shoot, run, and fight, and think people in that job look like him, but they don't. There are different Swiss Army tool sets for the Night Action program which might require an Alice, a Brittany, versus a Peter. And I think it's interesting to not only have him deployed to Bangkok to learn from her, but she's sort of guiding him in his first deployment."

From Squid Game to Stranger Things, Netflix has had many breakout hits over the years and this week sees the return of one of their most successful ones. Based on the novel of the same name by author Matthew Quirk, The Night Agent debuted on the streaming service in March 2023 becoming an instant hit.

Immediately drawing in viewers, within a week it was renewed for a second season which given Netflix's long history with cancelling shows, was admittedly surprising. But they were clearly right to do so as it was their most watched series of that year and currently ranks as Netflix's seventh most popular English language show of all time.

However, whilst the numbers are impressive that's not something that the show's star Gabriel Basso, who portrays FBI agent Peter Sutherland, really thinks about. Catching up with the actor ahead of season 2's premiere, which sees Sutherland once again unravel a dangerous conspiracy that threatens the world, GamesRadar+ asked him whether he felt any pressure filming the show's sophomore chapter given how popular it is.

And his answer was incredibly honest, with Basso admitting that he's not too fussed about the show's viewing numbers as what matters to him is that the crew are proud of their work. As he explains, this meant he didn't feel pressure going into season 2: "There is an awareness of how big the show is but I wouldn't say it's a pressure that makes you nervous. At least not for me. I’m not saying that I'm relaxed all the time, it’s more that it’s so many people you can’t even wrap your head around it, holding yourself accountable to hundreds of thousands of people, it's just kind of ridiculous."

Basso continues: "And so the people that I'm accountable to are the crew, knowing that the crew are there every day to work and that I have a job to make the show good, and that the writers put time in to make it good, and that Shawn [Ryan, creator] is overseeing it. I just try to make it as simple as possible. And if I can look at the crew at the end of the day and we all shake hands saying ‘you did well’, like I feel good about this show, then I feel good about it. If the whole world hated it but all the crew was proud of it, I'd be fine."

Only time will tell if the second instalment is as popular as the first, but Netflix are clearly feeling confident given that a third season is already in the works. There's therefore plenty more Night Agent to come.

Warning! This article contains mild spoilers for Severance season 2, episode 1. If you've yet to tune in, and don't want to know anything that happens, turn back now.

It may have been three whole years since Severance season 1 aired but now that season 2 has finally kicked off, it feels like no time has passed at all – especially for Mark, Helly, Irving, and Dylan. In the new season's opener, the innies found themselves back at Lumon, with Milchick informing them that they're kind of famous now, after breaking themselves free of the office in the season 1 finale.

Just one episode in, though, and fans have already convinced themselves that Helly (Britt Lower) isn't actually Helly, but her outie Helena Eagan using the breach to infiltrate the severed floor.

On Reddit, a ton of viewers have suggested the theory, with one user claiming: "I think it's Helena and they've made it so obvious because they're distracting us from something else that's going on."

Many pointed to the fact that when the innies were telling each other about their outside selves, Helly lied, saying that she'd woken up watching TV in a 'Save the Gorillas' shirt; not, of course, at a fancy Lumon event standing on a plinth.

"I believe that it is likely Helena. I agree with the hints of behavior that seems more info-seeking than self-centered (her normal behavior)," another fan said, echoing the sentiment above. "I think that we are supposed to interpret her as Helena and that it's not supposed to be a big secret from the viewers. I think this is a case of them allowing us to see something which is secret from the others."

"Sorry Helly Truthers. It’s obviously Helena," wrote one more.

If that really is Helena pretending to be Helly, it seems safe to assume that she's doing so to find out all she can regarding Lumon's weak spots from everyone's favourite Macrodata rebels. Throughout episode 1, the core four are paranoid about hidden cameras picking up their clandestine conversations in the office – if Helena was masquerading as Helly, the sinister company wouldn't need cameras.

On the flip side, Helly might just not feel comfortable telling her pals she's actually the enemy...

Kaitlyn Dever stars in the new trailer for a Netflix thriller that has all the ingredients to become the streamer's next big hit. Based loosely on a true story, the series stars Dever as Belle Gibson, a wellness guru, and Alycia Debnam-Carey as Milla Blake, her best friend and fellow influencer.

In the early days of social media, the pair set out to try and cure their life-threatening illnesses through health and wellness, in front of a huge following. However, it soon becomes clear that not all is what it seems as questions surrounding the validity of Belle's cancer diagnosis rear their head.

The first trailer looks wild and sees Belle begin to build up her social media empire, in the shadow of Milla's fame before it all comes crashing down around her. She maintains her innocence throughout though saying at one point, "You'd have to be an actual sociopath to do that and I could do like 50 personality quizzes right now and I am an empath every time." Yeesh, what a promise…

The show will run for six episodes as it charts the rise and fall of Belle, and I'm already sold. It seems like the perfect bingeable thriller to get me through dark February nights, and Dever always delivers an exceptional performance.

It's going to be a busy year for Dever too with The Last of Us season 2 arriving on our screens in April. She'll be playing Abby Anderson, who becomes a main character in The Last of Us Part 2 game. Fans are already raving about what we've seen so far of her in the trailers, and we're pretty convinced she'll be a great Abby too.

While Dan Erickson "gets excited by the creativity" of fans' theories surrounding hit Apple TV Plus thriller Severance, the showrunner admits that he does also find them a little intimidating to read.

Released back in 2022, the series centers on Mark (Adam Scott), Irving (John Turturro), and Dylan (Zach Cherry), three happy-enough office employees who work for a biotech company called Lumon. Before they signed on, each of them underwent a procedure that splits their consciousnesses between their personal lives and work – something Macrodata refiner Mark is particular glad of, having lost his wife Gemma.

But their colleague disappear and a rebellious new starter Helly (Britt Lower) joins the team, they start to realize the downsides of living a compartmentalized existence. With that, the quartet band together to find out more about their mysterious employer.

"Ben and I did a lot of work before the show ever came out, before we even got into production on season 1, [when it comes to] figuring out a lot of the answers," Erickson tells SFX magazine. "So there's a lot more that we know, that we've known from the beginning, that we've not revealed on screen – and some of it we may never reveal on screen.

"People can continue to have their own ideas about it and that's part of what makes [Severance] special. I feel like I can read the theories and enjoy them and get excited by the creativity people are bringing to them. Sometimes, though, I have to stop. Sometimes it does get overwhelming to see them all and be like, 'Oh, I wish we could [go in] all these different directions', but they are so fun to read."

When Severance returns on January 17, we'll catch up with the innies following their office breakout in the season 1 finale, and explore the emotional fallout of Irving learning Burt has a partner on the outside, Gemma being alive (and Lumon's wellness counsellor Ms. Casey), and Helly realizing she's actually Helena Eagan, a descendant of Lumon founder Kier Eagan.

Three years ago, Severance season 1 concluded on quite the cliffhanger, as our favorite Macrodata refiners figured out a way to awaken their innies in the outside world. With that, we've been assuming that the Apple TV Plus thriller's upcoming second season would continue to reveal more about their real identities and what their mysterious employer, Lumon, is up to...

Instead, the follow-up looks at the more personal impact of the breach from the season 1 finale, which we delve into in our Severance season 2 review, and the ripples of tension its created between the core four. As Severance creator Dan Erickson tells SFX magazine: "After season 1, we had to take a step back and ask ourselves, 'What exactly was it that made that work the way that it did?' It was the smaller things, more so than the big things.

"I think we all have an impulse to know what it is Lumon does; what are the goats, and all of that. But at the end of the day, I think what makes the show so special is Mark, Helly, Irving, and Dylan," he adds with a smile. "And also Milchick, and Cobel, and Devon and Ricken… It's the heart, it's the beating human heart at the center of this cold world. Of course, the innies sort of blew up the status quo at the end of season 1, so we had to respect that and we had to let that propel us into a new situation but we knew we didn't want to lose the small conflicts, like arguing over pencil erasers or finger traps."

Directed in part by Ben Stiller, Severance centers on colleagues Mark (Adam Scott), Helly (Britt Lower), Dylan (Zach Cherry), and Irving (John Turturro), who all work at a biotech company called Lumon Industries. Before being employed there, each of them agreed to undergo 'severance', a surgical procedure that splits one's consciousness between work and, well, not work. But during the course of season 1, the quartet began to grow suspicious of their overlords and frustrated with their compartmentalized existences.

"Sometimes it's exhausting, but [it's] rewarding," Turturro says of exploring more emotional themes in the new episodes. "Irving's sort of a buttoned up character and there's a lot of reasons for that. It felt really creative to explore the other side. There's a lot of interesting things about his connection with the team, and him being able to clock someone, saying, 'Well, this is the person I know, but is it the person I know?'"

Season 2 sees the return of the main foursome, alongside Patricia Arquette as Harmony Cobel, Tramell Tillman as Mr. Milchick, and Christopher Walken as Irving's love interest Burt. New additions to the taskforce this time around include Alia Shawkat, Bob Balaban, Merritt Wever, and Gwendoline Christie.

"In the last season, so many of our scenes were all of us together. In this season? Not so much," Cherry smiles. "We start to kind of see ourselves off doing other things. [It] was exciting and new but I did miss how tight-knit we were in that first season."

The cat (or should we say, 'goat'?) was well and truly let out of the bag in the finale of Severance season 1, as our favorite innies managed to awaken their consciousnesses outside of MDR's office and a whole bunch of bombshells were dropped; from Helly being an Eagan and Burt having a partner, to Mark learning that his reportedly dead wife is actually their workplace wellness coach Ms. Casey. If you thought the thriller series would be entering its explanation era in season 2, though, you couldn't be more mistaken, as the next batch of episodes double down on the mind-bending, for an emotionally charged chapter that's just as intriguing, well-paced, and mystery-filled as its predecessor.

Not concerned with letting us in on Lumon secrets just yet, creator Dan Erickson and his fellow co-writers concentrate on the more personal repercussions of the core four's eye-opening rebellion which, according to Mr. Milchick, has made them rather famous. Their misdeed have allegedly prompted the company to review the way it treats employees and introduce new perks. Knowing how nefarious the organization is, though, we ain't buying it…

All for the core four

With Lumon supposedly fine with their rule-breaking, tensions appear between Mark (Adam Scott), Helly (Britt Lower), Dylan (Zach Cherry), and Irving (John Turturro) instead, as the quartet start to doubt the sincerity of each other's summations of their outside lives. Irving is particularly suspicious of Helly – and given how cold and calculating her outie Helena proves to be, he might have reason to be. Things only escalate from there, too, when the team are taken on a bizarre bonding field trip out in the snowy wilderness.

Despite all the drama, it's super fun to visit new locations through Severance's unsettling lens, as it is meeting a bunch of fresh faces, too, from Bob Balaban and Alia Shawkat to Game of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie. Fortunately, though, Erickson and co. clearly realize that Mark, Helly, Dylan, and Irving are the main reason we've all connected to the show so hard and position them as cameos rather than fully-fledged characters.

While much of season 1 revolved around Scott's Mark and involved the MDR squad searching for answers as to their jobs and real lives, season 2 allows all of the actors to delve deeper into their characters' psyches. Turturro has some especially meaty material this time around as Irving, reeling from the revelation of Burt's existing relationship, lashes out as his fellow workers with viewers seeing a darker side of the previously mild-mannered refiner.

Exceeding expectations

As the only innie who didn't actually get to slip into his outie existence, Dylan turns out to be the easiest to manipulate, with Cherry delivering some truly heartbreaking moments, while Lower presents a tortured Helly who's torn between who she feels she is and who she knows she is. There's also the matter of Mark having a wife who may very well still be alive; what will that mean for their fledgling romance? Can outies and innies have completely different personalities and morals? What does consent mean in the world of severance? Are innies capable of finding true happiness? These are questions season 2 tries to answer with devastating effect in the six episodes shown to critics.

They could just leave, right? Well, yes, technically, and it's something those opening chapters know you're thinking, as it convincingly justifies why our heroes would willingly plonk themselves back inside those oppressive white walls. The production design is as slick as ever and visually it's a treat, too; particularly in episode 1, where director Ben Stiller rolls out some kinetic camera tricks and stunningly framed shots.

It's a tall order to follow up on one of the best first seasons ever, but Severance season 2 exceeds expectations in every way. There may be a select few left frustrated by its continued commitment to keeping us in the dark, but if that allows space for it to explore its more human themes and gives this excellent show longevity, why would anyone prefer the alternative? In words Mark, Helly, Dylan, and Irving would never say about Lumon: it feels so good to be back.

Dan Chase is going off the grid for good, it seems; FX has canceled The Old Man after just two seasons.

Per Variety, the thriller series, based on the 2017 novel The Old Man by Thomas Perry, has officially come to an end. The Old Man stars Jeff Bridges as former CIA operative and Vietnam veteran Dan Chase. After killing an intruder who breaks into his home (in self-defense, mind you), Chase goes into hiding and rents a room from Zoe McDonald (Amy Brenneman), who reluctantly becomes his partner in crime.  

FBI Assistant Director for Counterintelligence Harold Harper (John Lithgow) is then called to apprehend Chase – because of their complicated past during the Soviet-Afghan War.

The cast includes E.J. Bonilla, Bill Heck, Alia Shawkat, Leem Lubany, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Navid Negahban, and Jacqueline Antaramian.

The first season, created by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine, currently holds a 97% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. After pandemic-related delays, the seven-episode first season finally premiered on June 16, 2022, and was swiftly renewed for a second season. Season 2 premiered on September 12, 2024, to mixed reviews, and currently holds a 64% critic score. Bridges and Lithgow both received Golden Globes and Emmy nominations for their roles during the first season.
