The first look at The Crow reboot has dropped giving us our first glance at Bill Skarsgård as Eric Draven, but despite support from fans, it looks like the remake doesn't have the seal of approval from the original movie’s director. 

The director of the 1994 cult classic, Alex Proyas, posted one of the first look images to his personal Facebook account (H/T ComicBook) with the caption: "Eric Draven's having a bad hair day. Next reboot thanks."

From his comments, it sounds like Proyas is not too accepting of the modernization of the beloved character, especially the haircut. And he’s not alone, as soon after the first look was posted on Twitter, fans of the original had a lot to say. "Please tell me this isn't the final version," said one Twitter user, whilst another added, "Come on man, if you are the crow you have to have long hair."

The original movie is based on the graphic novel by James O'Barr and stars Brandon Lee as Eric Draven. After Eric and his fiancee are brutally murdered by thugs, he rises from the dead with the help of a crow and begins to seek revenge on his killers. The flick has since become a genre favorite due to its gothic themes and impressive soundtrack which features the likes of Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, and Pantera.

In turn, the remake, which stars IT’s Skarsgård and musician FKA Twigs, follows a similar premise and is based on the same comic book series. The adaptation has been in the works for quite some time and is directed by Snow White and the Huntsman’s Rupert Sanders. 

However, many fans are in favor of the reboot, including our own writer who thinks that The Crow deserves a comeback. The supporters were quick to let Proyas know their opinions, and it wasn't long until the director responded in defense. 

"For all those raging at me because I made a joke about a haircut - why do you care what I think? What does it matter?" asked Proyas, "If your enjoyment of a movie can be ruined so easily by one person you don’t even know isn’t that kind of sad?" The director finished by making it clear that he wasn't trying to take anyone’s excitement for the film away, but was merely stating his opinion.

Over the past few years, horror movie promo has gone to new extremes, but The Strangers: Chapter 1 has just taken things to a whole other level by using Ring Doorbell footage to scare fans. 

That’s right, Lionsgate has used a Ring Doorbell to promote a horror movie – it's our worst nightmare come true! The video was originally live-streamed to The Strangers' Instagram showing the murderous trio stepping out of a wooded area and up to a house before coming face to face with the camera, creepy or what? Luckily one fan screen recorded the stream and posted it on Twitter for everyone to see. Watch the clip below.

Starring Riverdale's Madelaine Petsch and Cruel Summer's Froy Gutierrez, The Strangers: Chapter 1, the first film of an upcoming trilogy, follows a young couple on a cross-country road trip to the Pacific Northwest. However, when their car suddenly breaks down, they are forced to spend the night in an Airbnb where they are terrorized by three masked strangers.

The upcoming flick is a spin-off from the popular 2008 genre favorite The Strangers. The original, starring The Lord of the Rings’ Liv Tyler and Underworld’s Scott Speedman, follows a couple whose relaxing visit to their isolated vacation home turns into a living nightmare when three masked assailants turn up at the house and stalk them like prey.

Due to the rise in popularity of the Ring Doorbell, which is essentially a doorbell fitted with a camera that connects to your phone and alerts you when someone is near, this is quite a genius marketing scheme. Earlier promo for the movie included eerie bloodstained Polaroid pictures of a road trip, starting with a wooded area, a diner, and the ‘Welcome to Oregon’ sign.

This isn't the first time a horror flick has brought on-screen scares to real life as a marketing tool. Back in 2022 Paramount Pictures infiltrated a bunch of baseball games with creepy smiling actors to promote Smile, not long after in 2023, Scream 6 jumped on board by hiring actors to dress up as Ghostface and walk around Los Angeles scaring civilians. This year it looks like studios are taking full advantage of digital marketing with live streams, videos, and picture clues to keep fans on their toes. Earlier this year Neon teased upcoming horror flick Longlegs with a string of ominous videos.

Divergent fans may still be salty that the franchise was never fully wrapped on on the big screen, but author Veronica Roth is more than okay with it. In fact, in her opinion, the adapted series "feels complete". 

As part of a new interview with People, the writer was asked about why Lionsgate chose to split Allegiant, the fourth installment of her dystopian YA saga, into two movies – and while the first was released in 2016, the second part, originally dubbed Ascendant, never came to fruition. 

"I mean, breaking things in two was all the rage at the time. That was why that decision was made," Roth explained candidly, referring to the likes of Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and Twilight. "But at that point, I think I always felt peace about it just because I knew the movies were taking a different track than the books, and if you change the lead up, you change the ending. So I kind of felt like at that point… I feel like that third movie, I don't know – there's a lot we could talk about with it. But it's its own thing."

"It feels complete to me, relatively speaking," she continued. "Because what does that even mean at that point?"

Starring Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Zoë Kravitz, Theo James, and Shailene Woodley, the Divergent series is set in a future where people are divided up into factions based on human virtues: Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the peaceful), Candor (the honest), Dauntless (the brave), and Erudite (the intelligent). After being told she won't fit into any group, a young woman named Tris takes it upon herself to lead a rebellion against those in charge, all while trying to evade a mysterious group trying to off the titular Divergents.

Upon its release, Allegiant was met with mostly negative reviews, pulling in around $179.2 million at the global box-office, a disappointing turnover considering it cost the studio between $110 million and $142 million to make.

In honor of its upcoming 20th anniversary, Lionsgate has partnered with filmmaker Quentin Tarantino to remaster his martial arts revenge thriller Kill Bill. According to Deadline, the studio has also bagged distribution rights to Kill Bill: Volume 2 and Jackie Brown, rounding up their number of Tarantino titles to eight.

"We've grown what is now Hollywood's largest portfolio of Tarantino films to include Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight, and Death Proof in addition to the movies we just picked up," CEO Jon Feltheimer explained during the company's post-earning conference call, before confirming that the 4K version of Kill Bill will come out later this year. 

"It was a coup for us to get the three Quentin Tarantino movies," added Jim Packer, head of worldwide television and digital. "We have eight, which gives our library a unique situation in Hollywood, and we want to take advantage of that."

Released in 2003, Kill Bill centers on Uma Thurman's assassin Beatrix Kiddo, AKA the Bride, as she embarks on a quest to find her ex-boss and his associates, after waking up from the coma they left her in on her wedding day four years earlier. Her murderous mission sees her cross paths with several of her former Deadly Viper colleagues, including O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu), Elle Driver (Daryl Hannah), Vernita Green (Vivica A. Fox), and Budd (Michael Madsen), before she finally catches up to David Carradine's Bill – and the blood-spilling continues in its 2004 follow-up, which was released just six months later.

Lionsgate has confirmed John Wick 5 plans – and intends to build out the gun-toting franchise with spin-offs and a "AAA video game."

Motion picture group chairman Joe Drake confirmed as much during Lionsgate’s recent earnings call (H/T ComicBook.com).

"We're now moving across that franchise, not just in the AAA video game space, but looking at what the regular cadence of spin-offs, television really growing that universe so that there is a steady cadence of a franchise that there's clear appetite by the audience," Drake said. Lionsgate had previously fielded proposals for a AAA game and that continues to be something at the forefront of its plans.

In normal-speak, that all amounts to John Wick growing out its franchise with more entries, more often – including television. One series, The Continental, is set for release later this year. Another spin-off movie, Ballerina (starring Ana de Armas) is also on the way on June 7, 2024.

"What is official is that, as you know, Ballerina is the first spinoff that comes out next year. We're in development on three others, including [John Wick 5] and including television series… And so, we're building out the world and when that [fifth] movie comes, [it] will be organic -- will be organically grown out of how we're starting to tell those stories. But you can rely on a regular cadence of John Wick."

Those who have seen John Wick 4 will know that, seemingly, the story of Keanu Reeves’ hitman drew to a close. It now appears it could be just the beginning, with a deluge of bullets, bruises, and ballerinas being loaded into the chamber. Yeah, we’re thinking he’s back.

John Wick: Chapter 4 has landed a home entertainment release – and it’s probably sooner than you thought. The fourth installment of the neon-streaked action thriller is arriving on digital release on May 23 in the US and May 29 in the UK. 

Then, just a few weeks later, it will be heading to DVD and Blu-ray on June 12 in the UK. Lionsgate has shared that the release will feature lots of exclusive content too, including behind-the-scenes featurettes.

Among those listed for the physical release is a special film on John Wick's suits and a play-by-play of the biggest fight scenes. US releases will also feature a special featurette on 'The World of Wick' too.

It's not been too long since the movie was released in cinemas. It came out on March 24, making it two months between the releases. The latest movie in the franchise earned some stellar reviews. Total Film gave it four stars, calling it "a full-on fourquel whose attempts to up the action ante yield frequently blistering results". 

Currently, it's not clear what the future holds for the John Wick movies after the dramatic ending of the latest film. However, Lionsgate is still very keen to continue the assassin's story. We've also got plenty of spin-offs on the way too, including The Continental and Ballerina. 

The latter stars Ana de Armas and will be out next year in June – but don't worry, Keanu Reeves has also filmed a cameo for that too.

Stephenie Meyer's best-selling book series Twilight is getting its own TV show, more than a decade after the fifth and final film installment premiered in theaters.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Twilight TV series is still in the very early stages of development, and as such doesn't yet have a writer attached. Lionsgate Television, which owns the rights to the franchise, reportedly plans to head up development on the series before looking around for a home network or platform. The first order of business, however, is finding a writer to adapt the books for TV.

THR's sources say Meyer is expected to be involved in some capacity, but it's unclear to what degree. Wyck Godfrey and former Lionsgate exec Erik Feig, who bought the rights to the Twilight books while he was at Summit Entertainment, will both executive produce the small screen adapt.

The story of Twilight spans four novels, two companion novels, a novella, and five feature-length movies, but if you aren't familiar, it focuses on Bella Swan, a high-schooler who moves from Phoenix, Arizona to the moody forest town of Forks, Washington, where she falls in love with a 100-year-old vampire named Edward Cullen. A central conflict is set up when Jacob Black, a member of a family of werewolves, develops feelings for Bella and she's left to choose between her friendship with Jacob and her romantic relationship with Edward.

There's no release window for the Twilight series just yet.

Lionsgate has confirmed when John Wick spin-off Ballerina is set to release: June 7, 2024. Following John Wick: Chapter 4's successful opening weekend in the US, the studio's Motion Picture Group chair Joe Drake teased to Deadline that the film was planned for a 2024 release – and now he's made good on that promise.

Starring Ana de Armas, who was recently nominated for an Academy Award for her lead performance in Netflix's Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde, the movie will center on Rooney, a dancer-turned-assassin for the ruthless Ruska Roma crime family, with which John had dealings with himself in the original series. The character, who will be reintroduced on a quest for revenge, was actually first glimpsed in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, but was played in that film by Unity Phelan.

Wick (Keanu Reeves), Charon (the late Lance Reddick), Anjelica Huston (The Director), and Winston (Ian McShane) are all expected to make cameos in the Len Wiseman-directed flick. Gabriel Byrne, Norman Reedus, and Catalina Sandino Moreno round out the supporting cast.

"I think, in Ballerina, you'll get to see some of the hints of what John experienced during his origins in that place but through the eyes of a different character," Ballerina writer Shay Hatten recently told Screen Rant. "It still solves some of the answers of [John Wick], just through the eyes of a new character."

John Wick: Chapter 4 has exploded onto the big screen with a franchise-best opening weekend. The fourquel, which was released this past Friday, March 24, has so far made $73.5 million in the US and $64 million worldwide, adding up to a total of $137.5 million. 

The franchise's last installment, 2019's John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum opened to $56.8 million, so Chapter 4's box office performance is a vast improvement on that. It's no surprise, then, that distributor Lionsgate is reluctant to say goodbye to Keanu Reeves' world-class hitman – even if this last movie seemed like a swansong for the character.

"We’re not ready to say goodbye to Keanu with this franchise," Lionsgate boss Joe Drake told Deadline. "It’s what alternative there will be. There’s a lot of different things that we can do."

However, director Chad Stahelski recently said that he and Reeves wanted to give the franchise "a rest" after the release of Chapter 4. "In our minds, Keanu and I are done for the moment. We're going to give John Wick a rest. I'm sure the studio has a plan. If everyone loves it and it goes kooky, then we'll take a quiet minute," he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Regardless of Reeves' future in the franchise, this is not the end of the Wick-verse by any means – two spin-offs are on the way. The Continental, a series about the hotel and refuge for assassins of the same name, is on the way, along with Ballerina, a movie starring Ana de Armas as a ballerina-assassin.

Lionsgate has shared a behind-the-scenes look at a jaw-dropping stunt featured in John Wick: Chapter 4.

The clip, which can be viewed below, sees a stunt actor take a nasty tumble down an escalator – all without breaking their neck.

The franchise is known for its insane stunts, with Reeves recently revealing which were the most difficult. John Wick: Chapter 3 saw Reeves riding a horse down Fifth Avenue in New York City – though it was actually shot in Brooklyn. Per Den of Geek, that particular scene took horse training experts, permits, and rigs to hold Reeves in place, and working closely with the Humane Society to adhere to animal laws on set.

Directed by Chad Stahelski from a screenplay by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch, John Wick: Chapter 4 sees the titular assassin take his fight against the High Table global as he seeks out the most powerful players in the underworld, from New York to Paris to Osaka to Berlin. 

The returning cast also includes Lawrence Fishburne as the Bowery King, Ian McShane as Winston, and will mark the late Lance Reddick's penultimate appearance as Charon.

Reeves is set to reprise his role yet again in Ballerina, a John Wick spin-off starring Ana de Armas that takes place in the same cinematic universe. A limited prequel series, The Continental, is also set to debut on Prime Video sometime this year.

A movie adaptation of the classic side-scrolling beat 'em up video game series Streets of Rage has been acquired by Lionsgate.

As reported by Deadline, the Streets of Rage movie is being written by Derek Kolstad, a filmmaker best known for creating the John Wick franchise. Kolstad also wrote two episodes of the Disney Plus series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He's also signed on to produce the Streets of Rage movie alongside Sega's Toru Nakahara, who produced the first two Sonic movie adaptations; dj2 Entertainment's Dmitri M. Johnson, Timothy I. Stevenson, and Dan Jevons; and Escape Artists' Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Tony Shaw

News of the Streets of Rage movie adaptation first surfaced in a Deadline report from April, but at the time the rights had yet to be scooped up by a distribution company. The fact that the adaptation has been picked up by a major studio is a major development and significantly increases the chance that this thing actually releases one day.

"When Dmitri first mentioned the idea of cracking a Streets of Rage movie, I was so immediately freaking in," Kolstad said in a statement. "And to play with Sega? The 10-year-old me is still grinning."

"The game has a rich world and narrative, and we’re thrilled to be reuniting with Derek to bring it to life," said Lionsgate's president of production, Erin Westerman.

It's far too early to know whether Streets of Rage will join the ranks of the best video game movies ever, but there's plenty of good stuff to stream on our list of the Best Netflix movies.

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer has confirmed what he called "one of the worst kept secrets in Hollywood” – Jennifer Grey is returning as Baby for a Dirty Dancing sequel.

This is, Dirty Dancing fans be assured, not to be confused with what has popularly become known as Dirty Dancing 2 – actual title Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. That movie was a prequel/reimagining starring both Romola Garai and Diego Luna, while the newly announced movie, we presume, will continue the original story.

“It will be exactly the kind of romantic, nostalgic movie that the franchise’s fans have been waiting for and that have made it the biggest-selling library title in the Company’s history,” Feltheimer said, according to Deadline.

Dirty Dancing first reached cinema screens in 1987 and has featured in your mum's top five favourite movies ever since. The movie also popularised the song "(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” by Frank Previte, which has since become a wedding and cheesy nightclub staple.

Not to say this is one just for the parents out there – Dirty Dancing's a timeless tale of a holiday romance that everyone can enjoy, as has been proven by the movie's enduring popularity at cinemas (chances are, your local drive-in has shown Dirty Dancing at least once this pandemic). 

Patrick Swayze, who played the iconic role of Johnny Castle, sadly died in 2009 after having pancreatic cancer. Whether the character will be recast remains unknown.

There's currently no release date for Dirty Dancing 2: Electric Swingaloo. In the meantime, why not check out one of the best feel-good movies of all time?

Lionsgate has changed the release dates of several movies, and two high-profile movies have been dealt substantial delays.

John Wick 4 was originally set for release May 21 of next year, but now it's slated for May 27, 2022. The Chris Rock-lead Saw spin-off, Spiral, has likewise been delayed from May 2020 to May 21, 2021.

Though the release restructuring is a big blow to two high-profile movies, it's not all doom and gloom at Lionsgate. The very Nic Cagey The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, in which Cage plays himself, is hanging on to its March 19, 2021 release date. Chaos Walking, the sci-fi project based on Patrick Ness's novel The Knife of Letting Go, is holding steadfast to its January 22, 2021 release.

For obvious reasons, none of this should come as a huge shock. Just a couple of days ago, John Wick 4 director Chad Stahelski signaled to Collider that the movie's release date would be affected by current global goings-on. The upside is that plenty of movies have been released early to help keep us occupied while we're stuck at home.

It probably goes without saying, but those aren't the only movies affected by the pandemic. Here's a comprehensive list of every movie and TV show delayed due to coronavirus concerns.

The nice thing about horror is that nothing ever really stays dead. In bad news for those who have the Blu-Ray 'complete' set, Saw Legacy will apparently be the eighth movie in the ultra gory franchise and Lionsgate has already started cranking those blood covered development cogs. The insider leak comes from The Tracking Board and reveals that the writing duo behind Sorority Row and surprisingly fun Piranha 3D, Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger, are on script duties.

Original director James Wan - who is currently helming Aquaman and has the Conjuring and Insidious movies under his belt - will apparently join original screenwriter Leigh Whannell on executive producer duties. Don't get too comfortable about their presence though. They did oversee the last seven. The last in the franchise, Saw 3D: The Final Chapter, was always rumoured not to be the last, despite its very clear title and it's almost a relief that this will be a sequel rather than a full on remake of the franchise. However, now that the Jigsaw Killer is well and truly dead, expect a copycat killer with a serious thirst for horrendous torture. Great.

Halloween might have been and gone, but it looks like Lionsgate has one more grisly trick up its sleeve with the news that the studio is keen on an eighth film in the Saw franchise.

We had previously been lead to believe that Saw 3D would be the last of Jigsaw’s big-screen outings, although as any horror fan will tell you, the corpse of a successful series rarely stays dead for long…

According to Bloody Disgusting , “Lionsgate is incredibly active in developing an eighth Saw ,” with the studio currently looking for a new director to take the story forward.

With the last film making a relatively disappointing $68 million worldwide, it had appeared to be the end of the road for the series, but the studio’s thinking appears to be that a gap of more than three years will have re-whetted audiences’ appetites.

Despite having been killed off several films ago, it seems that the diabolical Jigsaw will ride again. Best dust off our pig masks…

UK distribution rights to David Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method and Ralph Fiennes' Coriolanus have been picked up by Lionsgate.

A Dangerous Method , which marks Cronenberg's third collaboration with muse Viggo Mortensen, explores the relationship between pioneering psychoanalysts Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud.

Method also stars Keira Knightley and Michael Fassbender, and begins production in Germany this month.

Fiennes makes his directorial debut with Coriolanus, and will also star as the titular Roman leader who struggles between his duty to the state and to his family, in particular his overbearing mother.

Also starring are Gerard Butler as Coriolanus' sworn enemy Aufidius, Vanessa Redgrave and Eddie Marsan.

Gladiator scribe John Logan has penned the script, which is described as a contemporary reworking of Shakespeare's play.

Both films are set for a 2011 release.
