It's all over for FC 26 TOTY (Team Of The Year) – but its cards should be stalwarts of your line-up all the way through to FC 27. The gargantuan promo gave us new EA FC 26 items for the best male and female players of the last 12 months, alongside a selection of TOTY Icons such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ruud Gullit. FC 26 TOTY release date

The FC 26 release date was Friday, January 16, following a fortnight of fervent fan voting. Initially one men’s and one women’s team were named, with three players boosted to an incredible new 97 overall rating: Ousmane Dembele (ST, Paris SG), Aitana Bonmati (CM, Barcelona), and Alessia Russo (ST, Arsenal). Honourable Mentions cards such as Marc Cucurella are inbound, too – more on him below.

TOTY wasn't the only promo to generate buzz in the opening months of 2026. The FC 26 FC Pro Live Tracker, featuring the likes of Darwin Nunez and Alejandro Garnacho, also gave us some immense new cards.

FC 26 TOTY release schedule

As with previous years, the FC 26 TOTY release schedule was split into four stages. First up we got attackers; next were midfielders; after that it was defenders and goalkeepers, such as Gigi Donnarumma; and then, finally, all cards were catapulted into packs for a big week-long finale. Oh, and tradition means we’re got 12th Man and 12th Woman cards to tie in with that second week, too – Raphinha and Caroline Graham Hansen.

FC 26 Joga Bonito Team 1 dropped on Friday, December 5, with 5 Star Skill Moves for every player. Unlike the FC 26 FC Pro Live Tracker, its cards aren’t upgradeable – but there are still a delicious confection of tasty items to chase. Among them are the three Heroes mentioned above, alongside David Ginola (LM, Ligue 1, 90) and Maicon (RB, Serie A, 89). Aitana Bonmati and Cole Palmer are two of the elite modern additions, while Vitinha’s new card (CM, Paris SG, 91) was selling for 1.5 million coins as of mid-December. Nice work, if you managed to pack it.

FC 26 Joga Bonito Team 2 release date

There was never any hint of a Joga Bonito Team 2 release date, and indeed the promo came to a close after a single week. Still, December was a busy month for FC 26 promos, including the always-mammoth FC 26 Winter Wildcards. FC 26 Joga Bonito Lucas Paqueta SBC requirements

The first FC 26 Joga Bonito SBC lived up to the samba promise. It was for ballet-toed West Ham and Brazil ace Lucas Paqueta, who gets a new 87 rating in exchange for submitting five Squad Building Challenges. The list of them is below, and the last two aren’t a typo – they’re identical. The set cost around 314,000 coins as of Saturday, December 6. Alas, it's now expired. Doh!

FC 26 Joga Bonito Leonardo Fernandez objectives

Completing four FC 26 Joga Bonito Leonardo Fernandez objectives rewarded you with an 85-rated version of the Penarol CAM. It was relatively straightforward – particularly if you already had Colombian and Uruguayan attackers in your club. FC 26 Ultimate Scream Team 1 Best Cards

FC 26 Ultimate Scream Team 1 landed on Friday, 24 October, and formed the third major promo of the season – following FC 26 Cornerstones and Ratings Reload. As well as two Roles boosts, it throws players into unconventional roles – such as turning legendary Mexican goalkeeper Jorge Campos into an 88-rated ST, with 85 Pace. The top-rated contemporary players in Team 1 are Vini Jr (ST, Real Madrid, 90), Debinha (RW, KC Current, 89), and Joshua Kimmich (RB, FC Bayern, 89). FC 26 Cornerstones Team 2 Best Cards

The FC 26 Ultimate Team 2 release date was on Halloween itself: Friday, October 31. A 91-rated Ousmane Dembele card is the pick of the pile, but others are picked up serious value on the transfer market too – such as Wesley Sneijner. The Dutchman's new 89-OVR Heroes item was selling for 1 million coins within an hour of release, but by mid-December he'd dropped to more affordable 233,000. All Team 2 players have been added to the cards list below.

FC 26 Ultimate Scream Team Paul Pogba SBC

It wouldn’t be a new promo without a collection of Squad Building Challenges, and completing the Ultimate Scream set granted an enticing reward: one of two Paul Pogba items, both rated 86. The requirements to do so are below. It cost around 209,000 coins as of the promo’s first night, and you had until Friday, November 7 to get it done.

Other SBC players included Fridolina Rolfo, Phil Foden, and Yannick Carrasco. Additionally, there were six SBCs to complete across the fortnight in order to unlock an Ultimate Scream Myles Lewis-Skelly card.

FC 26 Ultimate Scream Diego Luna Objectives

In addition to the Pogba SBC, EA stuck with tradition by giving us an objectives player reward to kick off the spook-tastic promo. You needed to complete the in-game tasks below in order to earn 84-rated Ultimate Scream Diego Luna, again with a cut-off date of Friday, October 31. Across 30 years of FIFA and FC, and a decade of Ultimate Team, you’d be forgiven for assuming that you’d tried every possible color combo on a football kit. Cremonese says no. Their home kit marries red and grey stripes, and somehow looks super smart despite the curious mix ’n match. It dates back to 1914, and has been worn by greats such as Gianluca Vialli and Antonio Cabrini.

Gotham FC (away)

American midfielder Rose Lavelle snuck onto the FC 26 best players list alongside more esteemed names such Aitana Bonmati and Caroline Graham Hansen – and now her club side makes a tidy move to land in our fashion catalogue too. Nike kits always ooze class, and this one’s blend of light blue and black feels unique while looking sublime.

Toulouse (home)

League: Ligue 1 McDonalds (FRA 1)

FC Gotham aren’t the only Nike stars this season. Toulouse’s home strip is just glorious, made up of white and purple halves – and, even better, completely forgoing a sponsor. Look closely at its back for the motto “Debout. Toujours.”, which means ‘Stand Up. Always.” Toulouse’s pink away shirt is worth a look too, and also available for just 300 coins.

As well as being good-looking from a distance, FC Koln’s third strip also has a beautiful sneaky secret. If you’ve ever ventured to Gamescom then you know that of the most incredible features of Cologne is its astonishing cathedral, built in 1248. Zoom in on this kit and you’ll see it celebrates the 777th anniversary of that historic landmark, with a pattern inspired by the building’s fabulous decor.

The third year of the post FIFA era is a great one for Swiss fans. If those red and white stripes look familiar, it’s because the Welsh club’s new road jersey marks a long-standing friendship with Spanish giants Athletic Bilbao. During the Spanish civil war of 1937 many children were evacuated to Great Britain, with Newport one of the main towns chosen to house them. It’s an unlikely link-up, but it’s resulted in this peach of a strip.

FC 26 Cornerstones came to a close back in October, but its best cards can still be a sneaky asset to your team. That's because every item in this EA FC 26 promo awards an extra club link chemistry point, making the addition of Cristiano Ronaldo, Florian Wirtz or Millie Bright even more appealing. All the details on how the campaign worked are below, along with the final FC 26 Cornerstones cards list.

FC 26 Cornerstones Team 1 best cards

We’re not into 90-OVR territory yet, but the best card in FC 26 Cornerstones Team 1 narrowly misses out. It belongs to Real Madrid and Uruguay CM Federico Valverde, with an overall rating of 89. Chelsea talisman Cole Palmer runs him close on 88, a rating shared by Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes. Manchester City CM Tijjani Reijnders earns a new rating of 87, as does Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams. All FC 26 Cornerstones Team 1 cards can be viewed in the list at the foot of this guide.

FC 26 Cornerstones Team 2 best cards

The FC 26 Cornerstones Team 2 release date was Friday, October 3. It delivered our first Cristiano Ronaldo card of the new campaign, with a sturdy OVR of 88. Other standouts include Liverpool summer signing Florian Wirtz getting upgraded to 89, and Chelsea defensive stalwart Millie Bright also hitting the big eight-eight. FC 26 Cornerstones Martin Zubimendi SBC

The first FC 26 Cornerstones SBC was for Arsenal summer signing Martin Zubimendi. The Spaniard’s new card is set at CDM and 86-rated. Below are the five challenges you needed to complete to get him. It cost around 90,000 coins but sadly expired on Friday, September 26.

FC 26 Cornerstones David Hancko SBC

Additional Cornerstones SBCs include Alyssa Thompson (LM, Chelsea, 85) and Nico Paz (CAM, Como, 85). To tie in with FC 26 Cornerstones Team 2 they were joined by Atletico Madrid centre-back David Hancko. Below are the four challenges you needed to complete to earn him.

FC 26 Cornerstones Arnau Martinez Objectives

Friday, September 26 also brought our first FC 26 Cornerstones objectives player. Girona RB Arnau Martinez has an overall rating of 84, and his 85 Pace comes in very handy. To earn him, you had to complete four of the objectives below, though sadly the challenges have now expired. FC 26 Career Mode is as formidable an alternative to Ultimate Team as we've seen in years. Real managers, tactical presets and an authentic coaching carousel make it a strong way to enjoy EA FC 26, particularly if the endless sweat of FUT has ground you down. Best teams to manage in FC 26 Career Mode

Yeah, we know, you desperately want to manage your favorite club. Again. But what about a change, and even a challenge? Below are five possible career mode starting points that you really, really should try – unless you're a Liverpool or 1860 Munich fan. Spend big, spend small, or don't spend at all, with this cheeky quintet of challenges…

Premier pedigree: Everton

For many career mode players, the Premier League is the place to be – and Everton are a solid choice for you to carve out your own slice of history. Its new, plush Hill Dickinson Stadium is in the game from the outset, and a $47.58 million transfer kitty should ensure plenty of reinforcements alongside Jack Grealish and James Tarkowski. Board expectations in your first season are simply to avoid relegation, meaning you also have a long leash in terms of early results.

The old guard: Real Oviedo

Three resplendent Adidas kits include a unique blue and yellow number, but that’s only one reason to start your career mode as Los Godos. Their line-up is a catalogue of familiar faces from FIFAs past, such as Eric Bailly, Santi Cazorla, Salomon Rondon, and Leander Dendonker. A modest transfer budget of $2.48m represents a challenge, but – like Everton – simply avoiding relegation in the first year is an achievable aim. From there, you can grow to challenge Barca, Real, and Atletico.

Surprise underachievers: Paris SG 

PSG, underachievers? Yes, but not in quite the way you might think. Rather than talking about the super-stacked men’s team, we mean their female equivalent. Paris St German women have won their league once to go with four cup victories, but those achivements are dwarfed by Lyon. Their rivals have claimed 18 leagues, 10 cups and 8 Women’s CL wins. Can you overhaul that dominance with only $2.48m to work with? Mary Earps between the sticks is at least a start…

Kane and able: FC Bayern

The ultimate managerial easy ride comes in the form of Germany’s most successful club. Star players include Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala, and Michael Olise, and your transfer kitty is a colossal $98.87m. The Bundesliga makes for a great experience in terms of depth, too, with the Allianz Arena’s return meaning that all 18 of its grounds are on FC 26 stadiums list. Just make sure you live up to the board’s lofty expectations: “Win it all, at home and abroad.”

Forever underdogs: Bromley

The South Londoners were formed in 1892, but have never won a domestic league or cup, and start with the lowest transfer budget of any English club in the game: $1.12 million. Thankfully all expectations are ‘very low’ so you’ve plenty of scope and time to bring in some key loanees in the first season, and slowly make your way up the leagues. As long-term career mode projects go, this is as challenging as it gets.

Best FC 26 real managers

While you can create your own avatar at the outset of career, many players swear by the realism of having an official manager in the dugout. They don’t have to match their current club, either: for our FC 26 review, I took over West Ham as Irons legend Carlos Tevez. Below are ten non-Premier League managers who look the part in career mode, and are worth your consideration – even if the benefits of you choosing them are purely visual. We’ve also included a club from their past who you might wish to pair them with.

FC 26 Tactical Presets explained

After selecting (or creating) a manager and choosing your team, the first port of call on you managerial Tasks list is adopting a Tactical Vision. There are seven different templates, with each one offering subtle tweaks to your tactics from the outset.

Standard is a balanced approach – an all-rounder set-up with no glaring strengths or weaknesses. Wing Play, obviously, focuses on your wide men, while Possession is all about tiki-taka style short passing. High Pressing, meanwhile, revolves around the legendary gegenpress and direct attacking.

Park the Bus opts for a more defensive-minded approach, Counter Attack sees your team sitting back and ready to pounce with rapid breakaways, and Kick and Rush is more route-one based, leaning on a team’s physical strengths.

Once you’ve picked your Tactical Preset, move over to the Coach Management tab at the top of the screen. From here you can hire coaches to implement your chosen philosophy. Each is rated out of five stars in a chosen category: attack, midfield, defence, and goalkeeping. The better they are, the more they can impact your players’ attributes throughout the season. Just make sure you pick coaches that are aligned with your Tactical Preset, as well as placing them in the category where they can have the most effect. For example: if a coach has a two-star attack rating but four-star in defence, keep them in your defence coach lineup.

FC 26 Youth Academy and Rush tournaments

The FC 26 Youth Academy is a critical part of your long-term planning. Last year its countries list was expanded to more than 160, and you can now scout up to four specific positions, and three distinct Player Roles. The most important support for this is youth-player Rush tournaments. These enable you to try out hot prospects, and improve them along the way.

Youth tournaments in career mode take place every two months, and you can choose to use players with their current ratings, or ultimate potential. After each match you have the option to view how Match XP has affected their ability, and how long it will take them to level up to the next OVR. It’s a lengthy process, but this is a mode build for extended play – which makes it all the more rewarding when players levelled up through Rush finally make it to your first team.

FC 26 Career Mode youth scouting

Looking for the next big thing? Hit the Academy tab then Youth Scouts. This process works similar to the one above, but with even more nations to search for talent.

You can hire up to three youth scouts. They can then be sent away in increments of three months, six months, or nine months, and you can give them specific instructions, such as finding players with a focused role. Like with normal scouts, each has a Experience and Judgment rating, which will help you find more players and better players respectively.

During their time away, you will intermittently get reports back. Sift through the players to see a broad range revealing their current overall rating, their potential rating, their attributes, and their positions. From these menus, you can sign players for your academy.

FC 26 Career Mode scouting

The Global Transfer Network is your main hub for scouting players. If set up correctly, you should have a continual influx of talent to cast your eye over.

You can find the Global Transfer Network by heading to the Transfers tab, then selecting the Scouts panel. Once there, you’ll see your current scouts on one tab, and an instructions menu on the other.

First, use Instructions to tell your scouts which players to identify. You can search for potential signings by position, age, contract length, overall condition (from backup to world class prospect), PlayStyle or Player Role.

Once that’s done, it’s time to send your scouts out across the world. You can hire up to six scouts, and each has a star rating out of five for two categories: Experience and Judgment. Experience will give you a larger selection of players to choose from, while those with higher Judgment will find higher quality players. Ideally, you want someone who is at least a three-star rating in both skills.

After a few in-game weeks, you can return to each instruction grid to find the list of players that your scout has found. If they’re having trouble finding players, widen your scout instruction parameters. You may want the dream player who is great at everything, but it’s rarely that simple.

From there, you’ll be given a rough snapshot of each player. You will then need to scout them further by clicking on the player’s report. We also recommend shortlisting them in the Transfer Hub so you can keep track of specific targets among the dozens of players that will be highlighted. After a short period, your scouts deliver a full report including overall rating, market value, weekly wage, release clauses, and expected transfer fee.

FC 26 career mode transfer negotiations

Once you’ve scouted a player, you can add them to your shortlist and either approach to buy, approach to loan, or delegate the tasks to your assistant. Scouting a player fully allows you to get a rough asking price, as well as the lowest offer that could realistically be accepted.

Once you’ve entered negotiations, you can offer an up-front fee that comes out your transfer budget, or sweeten the deal with sell-on clauses and player swaps.

Be careful with your first offer. Table an unrealistic bid and the selling club will walk away. We recommend starting just above a player’s market value and going from there.

If accepted, you’ll have to negotiate a wage with the player’s agent, as well as their squad role and contract length. If they sign on the dotted line, you’ll get a quick recap on how he compares to your current squad as well as what the best possible deal could have been.

FC 26 Career Mode training plans

FC 25 Training Plans are another a way to balance the fitness of your players. They're found in one of the six panels beneath the Squad tab.

You have two stats to take care of when it comes to your squad: Energy and Sharpness. The former is all about how fit your players currently are. If they play too many games, they will have less stamina and, in turn, they won’t be able to complete 90 minutes without gasping for air. High Sharpness, on the other hand, will lead to a boost in form and skill, leading to them playing better on the pitch.

For each player, you’re given five levels of training. Intense and Heavy are all about Sharpness. Balanced is, naturally, a middle ground. Light and Recovery, meanwhile, zero in on stamina and energy but come at the cost of decreased Sharpness – and vice-versa.

FC 26 Career Mode tips

While we’ve covered coaches in Tactical Presets above, there’s still a handful of tips to take in so you can get the most out of your boot room.

Succeed in the first season and you’ll increase your manager rating. That will allow you to bring on additional coaches in future seasons – exponentially increasing the impact of Tactical Presets. For gameplay help, leap into our FC 26 skill moves guide.

Like your players, coaches don’t remain static in their ability. The more wins you get with a Tactical Preset enabled, the more XP you can put towards your backroom staff. So don’t worry about bringing in some three-star coaches to begin with.

Also pay attention to a coach’s Knowledge level. This boosts a player’s overall rating when they are on the pitch and, if you can afford it, you want to be aiming for no lower than Accomplished, though shelling out for Experts will help you get short-term success even if your wage budget will soon deplete. It’s also fine to chop and change your coaching staff to get the right balance. We recommend focusing on Attack and Midfield as they provide the most tangible results (i.e. goals) in the early parts of the season.

Coaches also help raise the Role Familiarity of players set to key roles by one level. In order for this to occur, make sure that the coach’s tactical Knowledge is higher than the natural Role rating of the player you want to improve – and that they can play that position in the first place!

The manager market is our favourite new feature. Across the globe, bosses can be poached, sacked, or choose to resign. Be sure to add clubs to your Watchlist who you may wish to manage in the future. Also note that AI-controlled managers install their tactical vision after joining a new club, adding variety to your opponents over the long-term.

Every player in FC 26 has a skill moves star rating of 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. As outlined in our FC 26 review, these are now shown onscreen just below a player's name bar. One-star players can only deploy a limited set of skill moves, while five-star players are able to utilise all moves in that category – and the four skill levels below them, too. 1 Star Skill Moves

These are the basic tricks that every player in the entire database can pull off – even goalkeepers.

With the Ultimate Team power curve toned down, these EA FC 26 items can tweak ratings to provide a key advantage in critical Division Rivals fixtures. What are FC 26 chemistry styles?

There are 24 unique FC 26 chemistry styles cards, exclusive to Ultimate Team. All of these can be found in packs or on the transfer market, with those that affect Pace tending to be the most expensive. 22 of the cards upgrade specific attributes, while GK Basic and Basic reset players to their base stats – for instance, if you've bought a player item with a different chemistry style assigned to it.

Once deployed, each chemistry style buffs either two or three of the main six attributes found on a player item. To purchase chemistry styles, head into Ultimate Team and select the Transfer Market tab. Click one tab over to Consumables, and cycle 'Player Chemistry Styles' into the Consumable Type panel.

Is Goodison Park in FC 26?

Yes – amazingly, both Everton's old and new stadiums are in FC 26. That's because the club's ladies team still play at Goodison Park, meaning fans can enjoy matches both there and in the 52,000-capacity Hill Dickinson Stadium. It's one of a few curious notes surrounding FC 26 stadiums. For instance, three have undergone rebuilds: Estadi Mallorca Son Moix (Real Mallorca), Fratton Park (Portsmouth), and Stamford Bridge (Chelsea). Four old-school FIFA originals have also had a makeover: Union Park Stadium, Stade Municipal, Stadio Classico, and Molton Road.

Last year delivered ten new FC 25 stadiums, and this year EA goes one better – if you choose to include the returning Allianz Arena (FC Bayern). Each year, a significant portion of the gaming community serves its verdict on the new FIFA – sorry, FC – before they've even kicked a licensed ball in anger. (Admit it, you've already glanced at the above score and decreed it right or wrong.) In an attempt to address those preconceptions, EA Vancouver has built EA FC 26 around community feedback, with intriguing results. It's both faster, and slower. It's at times more intelligent, at others stupider. It's both more fun, and more frustrating. Schrödinger's favorite football game, if you will.

Let's dig into game speed, because this is the most pronounced – and profound – change. In addition to customizable user sliders, FC 25 quietly implemented two gameplay presets: 'Classic' and 'Simulation'. A year on, they evolve into 'Competitive' and 'Authentic'. These make for a marked difference in how the match engine handles. The former is the basis of online play, and all about gamer skill. It's rapid, with the onus on trick-stick skills and goals, goals, goals, as user-controlled players race about unaffected by fatigue. 'Authentic', meanwhile, prevails offline, with believable weather interference, tiredness effects, and lifelike errors applied to shooting, passing, or heading.

Explosive Gunners

The focus on pace and attacking play has long been clamored for by Ultimate Team die-hards and influencers. And 'Competitive' gameplay certainly delivers on those fronts. You want high-scoring games, bossed by explosive wingers, twinkle-toed CAMs and ruthless STs? They're here. Those players and their team-mates are super responsive too, with deadly runs into space and fewer frustrations surrounding input delay. 1-0 to the Arsenal? Try 5-1, or 7-4, or 8-2 – all in slick and speedy HD.

Now consider the flip side. Even with some new jockey animations, defending is brutal, as team-mates regularly lose their shape to aid those attacking outcomes and big scores. For years I've set my Rivals and Weekend League teams up in 4-5-1 or 4-1-4-1 formations to soak up attacks and tire opponents, with the hope of nicking a decisive goal after they've subbed off their exhausted 95-Pace forward. Any notion of that in FC 26 is dead. Improved keepers, and the removal of 'tacklebacks', help a little, but keeping clean sheets is now miracle work. Indeed, keeping the opposition under two goals is miracle work.

It's a shame, as a swathe of off-field Ultimate Team frustrations have been ironed out. Rivals progression, complete with occasional bonuses, delights. Silver items matter again thanks to the return of live tournaments focussed on cards with a max-OVR of 74. Pack percentages remain controversial, but feel pleasingly generous, spitting out coins more frequently than in previous editions. Decent players, too: I've already packed Toni Kroos and Lionel Messi. GK Evolutions are similarly stellar. Plus EA seems cognizant of how power curve wrecks the mode by March every year, with fewer OP special items available off the bat, and Evo upgrades largely based around Roles and PlayStyles, rather than ratings increases. Promising.

Different grass

Those who do wish to defend capably are better served in offline fixtures, such as those found within manager career. Here, gameplay is more gently paced than any FC or FIFA in recent memory. Sprint speed and skills still have an effect, but so does the tactical set-up of your back four (or five), while myriad variables found in real football come into play. Wind changes the trajectory of clearances and crosses, and a wet pitch can see the ball skid on or slow down mid-dribble. Fatigue really matters, as do your substitutions.

Neat fan-requested developments flesh the mode out further. The new manager carousel sees bosses poached or sacked around the footballing world, and each brings their tactical set-up to their new club, injecting variety. Even better are random events which imbue personality, and happily disrupt the match-match-match-transfer grind. Controlling West Ham as Irons favourite Carlos Tevez my experience evolved regularly. A bank error saw my transfer budget halved from £64 million to £32 million. Kyle Walker-Peters and El Hadji Malick Diouf were ruled out of a London derby at Arsenal after consuming 'dodgy food'. Mads Hermansen and Aaron Wan-Bissaka followed soon after thanks to a clash in training. I've lasted longer in the job than Graham Potter will, and am looking forward to what unfolds next.

If that isn't enough variety, all of this is fully customizable, too. At the outset you can manually assign points deductions and transfer embargoes for an extra challenge. Or play fresh short-term scenarios via Manager Live – such as building a new team of Galacticos around (Brazilian) Ronaldo, in order to unlock the Real Madrid 2002 Retro kit. A few legacy issues grate – the once-groundbreaking transfer negotiations cut-scenes have had their time – but the mix of authentic gameplay and off-field fun make manager career FC 26's most balanced, well-rounded mode.

Rush goalies

In its second year, five-a-side offering Rush has also been bolstered by quality-of-life improvements. FC 25's single biggest issue in this replacement for Volta was players rubber-banding their controller without being booted, and I've not encountered that issue once as yet. Derek Rae's commentary makes for a welcome alternative to the excitability of Fernando Palomo, while shorter celebrations, deeper chat options, and the opportunity to play as the keeper keep it neck and neck with Rematch on the small-sided kickabout front.

Fan-service touches are implemented outside of Rush, too. For all my frustrations with defending in 'Competitive' play, its new camera view helpfully showcases more of the pitch – and stadium too, increasing the sense of matchday atmosphere. Details such as seeing away fans celebrating in local pubs enhance it further.

UI changes aren't merely cosmetic, either. A second bar below your player name denotes his or her skill move rating and foot preference, and can be further customized, while accessibility features include a high-contrast mode that switches out traditional kits for single blocks of color.

For the majority, however, a new FC game all comes down to Ultimate Team – and this year it's going to prove more divisive than ever. Not, for once, because of its pack-opening mechanic, but those tweaks to gameplay speed, and fatigue, and any hope of smart, sound defensive play. The community has spoken, and EA has answered with all the pace and tricks and goals demanded of it. The move is, in one swoop, both understandable and deflating. Online, FC 26 is categorically not a game for the footballing purist – but how many of them are actually left?

Rematch, the latest title from Sifu studio Sloclap, has well and truly stolen the show this year when it comes to football games, but EA doesn't appear to be too worried about the competitor stealing its thunder when it comes to EA Sports FC.

Asked if Rematch might apply any "competitive pressure" as the EA Sports FC 26 release date approaches in EA's latest earnings conference call, EA CEO Andrew Wilson replies: "Like every great sports team, we love competition. We come to work every day to compete – that's been true for all of our games, especially our sports games, for the best part of 30 or 40 years."

Furthermore, he continues: "I think competition makes us better. We're always watching what the competition does. We're always evaluating where there are new needs being met for new players. We're always looking to work that into the offerings that we have for players."

When it comes to EA Sports FC, Wilson feels "very, very good about our competitive ability," as he points to "the magnitude of licenses that we have" as well as the modes and platforms on offer, locations in which the series is available, and "the business models" used. However, he adds: "We never rest on our laurels. We never sit back with arrogance and pretend we don't have to be thoughtful about what's going on in the marketplace and what new players might want out of the next football experience that they want to play."

Overall though, he believes "we have the greatest football creation team on the planet," and he's "encouraged not just by what they're building this year," but also "what they're building in years to come as we think about an upcoming World Cup and the many new social platform features that we've teased in past conversations."

Funnily enough, Rematch's creative director doesn't seem to see his own game as a major FIFA/EA Sports FC competitor, either, but that's because they're very different games in the first place. Speaking to GamesRadar+ recently, Pierre Tarno explained that Rematch is "seeing very solid retention," much of which is fueled by the fact that "players who enjoy the game don't have an alternative."

Sifu wasn't just a kung-fu game, say its devs, and Rematch is actually a "samurai game" and not a football game.

The dawn of a new season means that the EA Sports 26 release date is finally here, and despite its recent launch, we are already impressed. Ultimate Team is the annual focus for most fans, but intriguingly, EA has given equal priority to offline gamers this season. That means two distinct gameplay styles: fast, skills-focused action in 'competitive', and slower, more tactical action in 'authentic'. It’s going to be an intriguing season for FC 26 for sure. EA Sports FC 26 release date

Staying with tradition, the EA Sports FC 26 release date fell a month into the new domestic football season. The latest instalment of the mega-publisher’s sports juggernaut is now out worldwide as of Friday, September 26, 2025.

However, those who shelled out for the FC 26 Ultimate Edition got their own bespoke FC 26 release date of Friday, September 19, 2025. Still, right now everyone can grab a copy, so if you haven't already, it's time to reach for those wallets.

EA Sports FC 26 platforms

The EA Sports FC 26 platforms list expands this year. As ever, it's available on PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Switch, and PC. But you can now add Nintendo Switch 2 to that extensive array of purchase options.

The version attempts to mirror current-gen gameplay, so it isn't too far off the PS5 and Xbox Series X editions, with the additional bonus of on-the-move football.

EA Sports FC 26 trailer

The first EA Sports FC 26 trailer dropped in mid-July 2025. It hammers home EA Vancouver’s mantra for this year’s game, which is "powered by you".

Essentially, all the series' major changes and improvements have been directly influenced by fan feedback to FC 25. These include reduced tacklebacks, dynamic dribbling, controlled goalkeeper deflections, proper first-time passing, and those two distinct gameplay styles for online and offline play. EA Sports FC 26 cover star

There are two EA Sports FC 26 cover athletes, and the pair made their names together during their teenage years as England Under-21 teammates. FC 25 frontman Jude Bellingham returns, but he now shares top billing with Jamal Musiala. Bellingham is a talismanic figure for both Real Madrid and England, while Musiala has switched allegiances to Germany – and become a key player for FC Bayern, and his national side.

An even more illustrious name gets the FC 26 Ultimate Edition cover star honor. It's Sweden legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who also earns an Icon card in FUT. Zlatan hasn't featured in the series since FIFA 23, after bringing the curtain down on his playing career.

EA Sports FC 26 Rush details

Yep, the five-a-side fun of FC 26 Rush is back, with some essential quality of life tweaks. Fed up with teammates rubber-banding their controller, or quitting matches early? They'll be made to serve a cooldown period during which the mode is temporarily inaccessible. Good.

Additionally, Derek Rae is included as an alternate commentary option, just in case you need a break from the limitless energy offered by Fernando Palomo. In the Clubs version of Rush, meanwhile, you'll be able to play as a goalkeeper, bringing FC 26 in line with upstart rival Rematch.

EA Sports FC 26 Ultimate Team details

While our preview covers gameplay and presentation in detail, Ultimate Team specifics were embargoed until recently – but a number emerged prior to the recent release of the game. For instance, those 6,000 FC Points packaged with the Ultimate Edition are spread over the game's first two months post-release, in an attempt to slow down the inevitable power curve that accompanies early-season promos such as FC 25 RTTK.

Additionally, Ultimate Edition players always have one Evo slot more than standard ones. "So, if we go to two active Evo slots for non-Ultimate Edition owners, Ultimate Edition owners will have their limit increased to three," says senior lead product manager Jamey Cane.

Abandon that off-parroted line about FC 26 being "the same game as last year". Three years into the post-FIFA era, the EA Sports juggernaut now offers a pair of contrasting experiences, depending on whether you play online or off. For Ultimate Team, the soccer stalwart is prioritising competitiveness. Matches are fast-paced and skill-focussed, with some elements of realism – such as human player fatigue – done away with. In career mode, however, simulation comes to the fore. Fixtures develop at a cerebral pace, your entire team tiring as the final whistle approaches.

We've extensively sampled both gameplay types across a two day hands-on and, as an old-school gamer weaned on Pro Evolution Soccer, came away preferring the sim style for now. EA's focus this year can be summarizsed as a little bit Blink 182: all the small things. FC 26's delicately implemented tweaks really come to the fore through that slowed-down, offline format.

Dribbling is super tight, enabling almost imperceptible changes of direction. Top-tier players will revel in maximizing their right-stick abilities, while novices can use timing – rather than stick skill – to turn a too-tight defender. Meanwhile, forwards more likely to hold off a CB than spin them benefit from enhanced physicality. Erling Haaland and Alexander Isak actively move a step or two away from the ball to shield it from gigantic centre-backs. Low driven shots return, and feel extra snappy when you find the bottom corner – although that is noticeably tougher, thanks to reworked keepers. New animations see goalies try to tip the ball wide or over rather than back into play, reducing the prevalence of sweaty rebound tap-ins.

If you're thinking 'those sound like the basics; what's the big gimmick?', you're not alone. The most encouraging aspect of FC 26 is the glaring lack of a big gimmick. Instead, EA Vancouver has spent 12 months drilling into user feedback, and attempting to improve upon EA FC 25 using specific fan suggestions.

"The gameplay fundamentals – the passing, the dribbling, the shooting, the goalkeeper – that was the [most common] feedback we received, so we just focussed on [those areas]: 'Let's take what we have, and refine it and polish it,'" says gameplay director Kantcho Doskov. "The combination of those things makes the gameplay better. More responsive, more consistent, with players moving as you expect, and passing sooner."

Change of pace

The shift from FC 25 is felt in granular improvements across both gameplay styles. As well as being re-animated, keepers are more intelligent in general, particularly in one-on-one scenarios: narrowing angles, and truly spreading their bodies. We see some shots denied by hand, others with the toe of an outstretched foot. A subtle masterstroke is the HUD addition below a player's name, denoting their foot preference and skill-move rating. Having this key intel onscreen rather than buried under menus directly affects gameplay – for instance, prompting you to cut inside onto your stronger foot with an inverted winger or full-back. It's a deft yet triumphant tweak.

Intriguingly, EA is so committed to improving gameplay, it's deliberately adding in some graphical clipping. 'Tacklebacks' are a FC 25 issue where you time your challenge correctly and should win the ball, but the engine deflects it to an opponent's team–mate. Or, even worse, lets the tackled player maintain possession, because your leg would have to clip 'through' an opponent to gain the ball. In FC 26, that's exactly what occurs, and it's a key element to making sure defending is as satisfying as all those attacking enhancements.

"It's always a balance on the defensive side," admits Doskov. "The dribbling is ultra-responsive now – but [the] jockey [mechanic] is as well. When a tackle occurs, if it's well timed, we've made sure the tackler will win the ball back. The clipping… it is what it is, but it makes the game fair and feels right."

The FC 25 meta has pulled this series away from goals created by crosses, but historically it's been my preferred attacking method – so we can't resist asking gameplay producer Thomas Caleffi whether it'll return as a viable approach. His answer is positive. "[We've worked on headers], particularly in authentic mode," says the passionate Brazilian. "We try to get the real-world success rates [and incorporate them]: how many headers are scored in the Premier League, crossing percentages, and conversation rates. It's difficult to do in competitive [mode] – but in authentic mode, it should match real life now."

Lights, camera, action

Presentation fiends may wince at the deliberate inclusion of clipping, but they have much to enjoy elsewhere. College Football 26's intros, mascots, and stadiums showcase the degree to which sports gamers love details, and FC 26 follows suit with myriad cosmetic tweaks. Find the net and a fresh overlay shows the scorer's shots and goal count for the current game, while scene-setting build-up includes more stadium facades – even Watford's Vicarage Road – and fan zones away from the host club. Oh, and coppers on horseback. Cool! Lighting is also less saturated, adding to the atmosphere but also making matches easier on the eye.

"Gameplay is always going to be the most important thing, but presentation is the wrapper that unifies everything," says creative director Fab Muoio. "With all the licensing and partnerships we have, the only way to really celebrate that is by creating amazing immersive experiences." Cleverly, that even includes the option to mix and match commentators, should you enjoy the dulcet Scot tones of Derek Rae, but prefer to pair them with Scouse ball of energy Sue Smith over the more dour Stewart Robson.

We're excited to put those voice combos to the test, alongside other new additions. Such as first-time passes, where you can leave your button press to the last possible second, rather than it being 'queued'. Or eight new set-piece assignments, including throws-in takers on either side of the pitch. Or the manager market in career mode, with hirings and firings (and job openings!) tracked in an easily digestible hub. Or Rush, where Rae is now a solo commentary option, should Fernando Palomo's bombastic style be a little too in-your-face. Or, or, or… so many ors, intertwined with some fascinating questions. NYC’s 24-year-old keeper may have two Development Academy National Championships to his name, but EA’s ratings gurus care not for such details. He’s the worst goalie in the game. Ratings include 51 Kicking, 47 Diving, and 46 Reflexes. And he’s a perfect example of what we were talking about in terms of value: those numbers have made him a sought-after stopper, with his bronze card selling for 4,000 coins.

Sajad Parray (RB, Mohammedan SC) - 47

Jeremie Frimpong’s 99-speed, 95-OVR FC 25 TOTS Honourable Mentions card make him the best right-back in the game. At the other end of the spectrum, you’ll find Mohammedan defender Parray. He offers 55 Pace and 46 Defender, but thankfully can be found at the bare minimum of 200 coins if you want to add him to your bench.

Tian Yong (CB, Qingdao W Coast) - 47

With 58 pace, this Chinese defender isn’t catching anyone in Division Rivals fixtures, but that hasn’t stopped his in-game value skyrocketing to 4,100 coins. Indeed, he’s one of two 48-rated Qingdao defenders, although team-mate Bowei Song thankfully only costs 200 coins. Now read that sentence again, and try not to hum Starman…

Jin Haoxiang (CB, Zhejiang Pro) - 47

If you thought Yong Tian was expensive, try searching for his countryman Jin Haoxiang. This time around you’re looking at the maximum possible price of 5,000 coins. He’s actually a former China Under-19 international, but has spent most of his club career being loaned out to minnows such as Taizhou Yuanda and Hainan Star.

Jung Eun Woo (RW, Daegu FC) - 48

There’s actually a 47-rated midfielder who should be in this spot: Pohang Steelers wideman Woo Park Hyung. However, his card is extinct on the transfer market, opening up an unwanted place in our line-up for fellow Korean winger Jung. He’s priced at 200 coins. Good luck getting past a single man with 61 Pace and 52 Dribbling.

Ning Fangze (CM, Zhejiang Pro) - 47

Prepare to dig deep into your in-game wallet again: at the time of writing, there are only two Fangze cars on the market, and they both cost 5,000 coins. Isaiah Jones (CM, Nashville SC) - 47

200-coins-card Jones is another MLS inclusion with a reasonable Pace rating, of 75. Alas, it’s hindered by scores of 43 Passing and 31 Shooting – pretty much on par with Fangze alongside him. Still, he’s only 19, and there’s hope that he’ll develop into a star for Sierra Leone someday. Fingers crossed for FC 29.

Markus Anderson (LW, Philadelphia) - 48

Our team’s MLS contingent expands to three with Anderson, who signed from the brilliantly named CF Rayo Majadahond at the outset of 2024. He’s also played in the Spanish fifth division for a team with an even cooler moniker: Club Deportivo Básico Paracuellos Antamira. You can hunt him down for just 200 coins, too.

Mohammed Aimen (ST, Kerala Blasters) - 47

Aimen may not feel overly enamoured to be the worst striker in the game, but there’s positivity in his back story. He came through at Kerala Blasters alongside twin brother Mohammed Azhar – who’s also in FC 25, as a right-back with an OVR of 50. He costs 200 coins, while Aimen sets you back around 1,000.

Baek Min Gyu (ST, Incheon United) - 48

Woo Park Hyung may have dodged our dodgy eleven thanks to his card being extinct, but there’s no such luck for his countryman Min. What is the FC 25 Premium Pass?

FC 25 Premium Pass Season 10 kicked off on Thursday, August, 14 shortly after the end of the FC 25 Futties tracker. You grind for XP – or SP, as EA calls it – and unlock rewards at intervals of 1,000 SP. In addition to standard rewards, Premium Pass owners now get a second additional reward. That means if you make it all the way up the maximum of 40,000 SP, you get 80 rewards in total, rather than the default 40.

How much does the FC 25 Premium Pass cost?

The FC 25 Premium Pass for Season 10 costs 1,000 FC Points, or 500,000 in-game coins. What is FC 25 TOTS?

FC 25 TOTS stands for Team Of The Season, and is the series’ traditional spring promo. It highlights players who’ve shone in domestic leagues over the last nine months, and fans have been voting for their top stars of the campaign since mid-April. This is the first new promo since FC 25 Immortals, and overlaps time-wise with FC 25 Season 7 Ladder Players. TOTS got underway on Friday, April 25, running all the way through to the second week in June.

There are no FC 25 TOTS Live upgrades this year. However, a couple of ongoing campaigns still had dynamic cards on offer throughout May: FC 25 FUT Fantasy FC and FC 25 RTTF (Road To The Finals). The Team Of The Season campaign is seeing secondary market prices for those players come down, too.

Are there any FC 25 TOTS free items?

Unlike in previous years, there were no FC 25 TOTS free items to tie in with launch. (The FC 24 equivalent saw everyone receive a Live TOTS Guarantee pack.) Thankfully, however, two TOTS Honourable Mentions players were relatively easy to get in week one through in-game objectives: Zurich Davitashvili (LM, St Etienne, 90) and Gaetan Laborde (RW, Nice, 89). You had to score 10 goals to earn Laborde, and complete four easy tasks such as attaining six assists to get Davitashvili. You had until Friday, May 3, when those guys were replaced by David Raya (GK, Arsenal, 92) and Yui Hasegawa (CDM, Manchester City, 92).

What’s the story with FC 25 Dreamchasers Franz Beckenbauer?

Well, it’s a story with some crossed wires. Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer returned to the series to tie in with the FC 25 Dreamchasers campaign on Friday, March 21, but his card isn’t actually one from the promo. His new 92-rated CB item is a standard Base Icon, although a second card for the legendary national team skipper is on its way as part of the FC 25 Immortals campaign mentioned above. Beckenbauer has been away since FIFA 17. His return follows that of Diego Maradona, who was returned to the series to kick off the FC 25 Grassroot Greats campaign.

GR expected the campaign to be replaced by the full set of FC 25 RTTF tracker items – some of which you can grab early by grinding through the FC 25 Season 5 ladder players list. However, we were wrong! Instead, Friday, February 21 saw EA unleash the FC 25 FUT Fantasy FC tracker.

What is the big deal about FC 25 Grassroot Greats Maradona?

FC 25 Grassroot Greats Maradona sees the return of one of the biggest icons in football to the FC and FIFA series. What’s more, you get him for free! Log into the game ASAP to claim a complimentary 77-rated Diego Maradona card, along with a new Evolution, called Diego’s Dream. You can then upgrade his card all the way to 89, deciding on specific position and stat choices en route. His initial position is a CAM, but you can mould him into a tricky winger or deadly ST depending on which pass you wish to take. The Evolution expires on Monday, April 14.

Is there an FC 25 Grassroot Greats SBC?

Yep, and it’s for a player who really did take slow but steady path to being one of the greatest midfielders on the planet. Grassroot Greats N’Golo Kante (CDM, Al Ittihad) gets a new overall rating of 90, with some scandalously imperious solo stats – such as 95 standing tackle, 94 defensive awareness, and 93 reactions. Be prepared to fork out big coins to complete his SBS though. As of Friday, February 14, it cost around 631,000 to complete all seven challenges.

FC 25 RTTF Team 1 was expected to land on Friday, March 7 – however, we got FC 25 FUT Birthday instead. That meant that initially all RTTF cards crossed over with FC 25 Season 5 ladder players. They included Inaki Williams (RM, Athletic Bilbao, 88) and Tosin Adarabioyo (CB, Chelsea, 87) – but we did eventually get more RTTF cards in March, as outlined in the next point…

Again, it was expected that RTTF would follow the same pattern as FC 25 RTTK (Road To The Knockouts), giving us Team 2 on Friday, March 14. Instead, that was the second week of FUT Birthday. You hear correctly. To mark the release of Team Of The Year, anyone who plays FC 25 between January 17 and February 14 gets a free 90-rated untradeable Zinedine Zidane TOTY 2002 Icon card. Qualified FC 25 Club Members also receive an exclusive Evolution that enables them to upgrade their item to a 94 overall rating. 

Why's this happening? "Celebrating one of many iconic moments, in the 2002 UEFA Champions League final against Bayer Leverkusen, Zizou lurked around the edge of tvhe box before meeting a looping Roberto Carlos cross with a pinpoint left-footed volley that’s now etched into the minds of Madridistas and football fans around the world, says EA. "The strike epitomised Zizou’s footballing legacy, leading his team to silverware with unmatched grace and control on the pitch."

FC 25 NumeroFUT Team 1 arrived on Friday, January 3, with some big shoes to fill: the promo directly followed the supermassive FC 25 Winter Wildcards campaign. Thankfully it delivered some OP cards to match its predecessor. Along with Leao and Lewandowski, we got a towering new item for Brighton captain Lewis Dunk (CB, 90) and rapid stats boost to 94 for Chelsea’s Pedro Neto (RW, 89). What is the FC 25 NumeroFUT Team 2 release date? 

There is no FC 25 NumeroFUT Team 2 release date. Team 1 is in packs for 11 days in total, until Tuesday, January 14. EA is committed to supplementing that initial selection of cards with NumeroFUT-themed objectives rewards and SBCs (Squad Building Challenges). The initial objectives rewards player is Rayan Ait-Nouri (LB, Wolves, 87), while the first SBC set is for that Pedro Neto card mentioned above. As of Monday, January 13, it costs around 208,000 coins to complete. 

Is there an FC 25 NumeroFUT Evolution?

Yes and no. A new Evolution dropped to tie in with the NumeroFUT promo, but it isn’t specifically themed around Squad Numbers. Instead, the Remember Klaiber Evolution is a throwback to FIFA 21, when Danish full back Sean Klaiber earned a monster 86-rated Showdown card. How do I get FC 24 Season 4 Ladder Players?

FC 25 Season 4 kicked off on Christmas Day, and its theme is 'Strength In Numbers' – with new cards for Marco Asensio, Lukas Klostermann and Geyse illustrated using the squad numbers on the backs of their shirts. You build towards them by gaining SP (FC 25's equivalent of XP) across Ultimate Team, Manager Career, Player Career, and Clubs. Each 1,000 SP you collect completes a level on the ladder, and there are 35 levels in total. Who are the best FC 25 Season 4 Ladder Players?

Two English stars are the pick of the FC 25 Season 4 ladder players list. Grind all the way up to Level 35 and you're rewarded with Chelsea winger Jadon Sancho. His 90 OVR should keep him in your line-up through to the summer, with 93 dribbling, 90 pace and 86 passing immediately placing him among the elite. Follow countryman Eberechi Eze is unlocked at Level 30. The Crystal Palace talisman brings 92 dribbling, 90 shooting and 87 pace to the CAM position – and can also be deployed at CM or LM.

What other FC 25 Season 4 Ladder Rewards are there?

As with previous seasons, there are 35 FC 25 Season 4 Ladder Rewards in all. Eleven of these are players; the rest are a mix of packs and other goodies, some of which can be used outside of Ultimate Team.
