It's been a year since the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller landed on the shelves but we're still yet to see much deviation from that lofty $89 MSRP. I'm not surprised. It took years for the original Switch's gamepad to depart from its launch rate - this is Nintendo hardware we're talking about, price cuts are few and far between.

Sure, you've got your Joy-Con in the box, but those looking for a more traditional gamepad feel, away from the tall, skinny feel of the side-mounted controllers, are looking at a hefty bill for Ninty's best Switch 2 controller. Thankfully, third parties exist.

While GameSir and 8Bitdo have their own alternatives to contend with, the PowerA Advantage Wired Controller can't be beaten in the numbers department this week. As part of its early Prime Day Nintendo Switch deals, Amazon has this chunkier controller available for just $17.99 (was $39.99).

I tested this wired, cheap and cheerful, gamepad directly alongside the Switch 2 Pro Controller. I won't lie to you, the difference is immediately obvious. While the official model has a solid heft in the hands, this is a lighter, more hollow device. The soft landing and snap of the original's thumbsticks can't be matched by these larger, louder clacks. I mean, the navigation buttons have even been bumped down to the bottom of the controller.

But this isn't a luxury controller, and it's not priced as such. While I'm often hesitant to recommend it at full price (there are $40 gamepads that will take you a lot further), the value at $17.99 is indeed incredibly fair.

Anyone tired of cramping around a set of Joy-Con, or simply looking for more multiplayer options in docked mode, will be set with this budget alternative. You're making sacrifices against the full-fat Pro 2 Controller, yes, but you're also spending a fraction of its cost. Here's exactly what you keep (and even gain) and lose compared to the real deal.

Ultimately, the PowerA Advantage vs Switch 2 Pro Controller debate boils down to what you need from your gamepad. If you've got the budget and you want the best experience possible, Ninty's official device is still your best bet. Its controls feel smoother and lighter, its chassis offers up a greater level of luxury, and its extra features pack all the versatility of the console itself.

However, for the price, anyone just looking for a more convenient controller shape or a few extra sets of Mario Kart buttons will still be well served by the budget brands. After testing both, and tracking these prices, I'd say you're dropping about 60% of the features of the Pro 2 Controller, while spending 79% less than its MSRP. That's on the right side of value.

Grand Theft Auto 6 pre-orders are inbound at midnight (local time), and as you probably guessed, the privilege of exploring the streets of Leonida is not going to come cheap.

Rockstar announced that the standard PS5 edition will be $79.99, and the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition will come in at an eye-watering $99.99 when pre-orders go live at midnight local time on June 25. While we have no insight into the UK prices, you can probably expect to pay a similar £80 and £100 if I were to guess. Either way, it's going to cost a pretty penny, but ShopTop can help with that.

There's currently a £70 PlayStation Gift Card sitting at ShopTo for just £60.85 (ShopTo), a saving of a little over £9. If GTA 6 pre-orders were to drop to £69.99 tomorrow, that means you can get your copy for approximately £60 instead. Is it a huge discount? No, it's pretty insubstantial, but any help towards GTA 6 is one worth taking.

I was going to drop everything and grab the standard physical edition of GTA 6 tomorrow, but sadly, those are just going to be a download code in a box, according to Rockstar, so I'm opting for this ShopTo deal instead.

I'd much rather save £9 off the game, even though I'm really not a digital game fan in the slightest. I mean, I still have my physical copy of the very first Grand Theft Auto released way back in 1997, fold-out map and everything. Yet as much as I cherish my physical GTA copies, I don't quite fancy waiting to receive a plastic box in the mail with nothing significant inside it.

Grabbing this £70 PlayStation Gift Card deal instead won't add anything nice and physical to my game shelf, as the redeemable code will likely arrive in my email inbox. But the £9 I get to keep and put towards something else, like keeping in my account to help towards my monthly PlayStation Plus Premium fee, is a nice consolidation prize.

As you might be able to tell from the title of this site, we love gaming Lego sets. Whether it's Fortnite display pieces, Super Mario models, or Minecraft playsets, they celebrate the things we love best about these franchises and let us keep a snippet of that nostalgia on our shelf. And as luck would have it, this year's Prime Day Lego deals have slashed the price of most kits based on video games.

I've not been able to find any gaming Lego ranges that haven't been hit by the Prime Day sale, and it's getting to the point that I can't list all of the discounted set here. Running D&D games is one of my favorite things to do, as is nattering on about my favorite modules, so the Prime Day sale is always a dangerous time; it gives me yet another excuse to ram adventures under everyone's nose and yell "look, isn't this great?" Anyway. Many of my favorite modules are actually on offer right now, and you know what that means. Here I am to wax lyrical about why they deserve a spot on your shelf.

If you ask me or my colleagues who also love rolling dice in D&D, these are the game's best products - if not highlights from the best tabletop RPGs overall. There's a bit of everything in this roundup; horror-tinged adventures to spook you, classic fantasy odysseys, sourcebooks full of goodies to put into your next campaign, beginner-friendly stories, and more. And as luck would have it, Amazon seems to have discounted most of them as part of its Prime Day sale. The savings may not be as steep as we're seeing for the latest Prime Day board game deals, but they're still pretty decent nonetheless.

When it comes to screens of any kind, it's pretty obvious that bigger is better. We've already been keeping an eye on some excellent gaming-ready TVs, and as the long-time proud owner of a delightful 34-inch gaming monitor for my PC, if I were in the market for a TV this Prime Day, I already know exactly what I'd be going for.

Hisense seems to be leading the charge with the best deals, with a pair of excellent 65-inch TVs that will give you a few options at a similar price point. First up is the U6 Pro Series; QLED, 144Hz, and Motion Rate 480 mean it's a solid option for gaming, while 4K, Dolby Vision IQ, and a Glare-Free surface mean it's excellent for movie night - or even movie day.

Alternatively, there's the E7 Cinema Series. It's pushing its TV specs harder than its gaming specs, but you're still getting the crucial 144Hz refresh rate, so this will definitely double up well. Crucially, it comes in a little cheaper - $600 rather than the $700 price tag attached to the U6 above.

Helpfully, both of these do come with scaling size options - I'd be opting for the 65-inch display due to a combination of price point and the amount of space in my house, but the E7 ranges in size from 50 inches at the bottom end all the way up to 100 inches if you've got $1,700 to drop.

Finally, however, I've got a slightly different option - if I had a little less cash to spend, I'd be looking closely at this Insignia F50. Still a 4K Smart TV with Alexa voice remote, its 60Hz refresh rate should still do you just fine for most console games, and the really good news is that it's substantially cheaper than the Hisense options (in fact, you could pick up an 85-inch version for less than either of the TVs I mentioned above).

Prime Day's PS5 game sales continue, and the discounts include some of my favorite games on the console. That includes quite a few big titles from 2025, which I'm surprised to see discounted as heavily as they have been.

With so much to wade through on Amazon, I thought I'd give your shopping a personal touch and recommend some PS5 games I've personally played and had a lot of fun with. As Features Editor at GamesRadar+, a big part of my job is staying up-to-date with new games as they launch - which means I've got the experience (see: great taste) to steer you right this Prime Day.

Below, I've recommended only games I've played enough to know if they're worth it at their discounted prices. I've also been exceptionally picky, sticking to just nine games to stay focused on quality over quantity. Speaking of which - that's enough waffling...

Prime Day gaming discounts are finally here and, like always, there are loads of discounts on accessories to choose from. Still, in 2026, there's no getting around that the best controllers are extremely expensive. It's not like the classic days where you could chew through third-party hardware. Now, most of those are pro or premium controllers that enhance play beyond the standard setup. Which to choose? Well, I'm already loving this Scuf Valor Pro controller that lives on my desk, ready for play at any moment, and it's at its cheapest price yet this Prime Day – so it certainly gets my recommendation!

Is it the best Xbox Series X controller ever? Not completely. But it's a sweet spot for me in being packed with features, easy to use, versatile, and with a hardy build – all at a good price point. I game so much, and am generally such a mess, that I need controllers that can keep up and won't break the bank if they need to be replaced. The Scuf Valor Pro hasn't let me down yet.

While I love other controllers too, like the Switch Pro controller or the DualSense Edge, I've ended up getting a lot more use out of the Scuf Valor Pro lately. I've been gaming on PC a lot over the last couple of years, which makes this pad's XInput appealing. While it's true that those other pads work on PC, the native support across apps with the Scuf Valor Pro means I don't have to jump through any hoops, especially when it comes to capture.

This is an Xbox controller at heart. That means on my Windows 11 gaming PC, I can just press the game capture button as I would on Xbox to save a screenshot (or hold it down for video clips).

With four back buttons built directly into the controller itself, and a button that cycles between pre-sets, there's customization here that means I can swap between squeezes for progressing through RPG text boxes or jumping in platformers easily. While some may prefer more modularity in controllers, at this price range, it's hard to complain, and I personally like how it helps the Scuf Valor Pro feel like a solid unit in and of itself. Nothing to shake loose here.

Plus, I just like the way this controller feels. I usually keep it wired up on my desk for simplicity's sake, and keep it perched on the edge. Several knocks have occurred, and it's survived some falls, all while still feeling great in the hands. I've used a lot of pads in my time. Perhaps at some point I will move on to something else. But, for now, this controller has been by my side through hundreds of hours of gaming. Why not yours, too?

When do Prime Day Kindle deals start?

The first batch of Prime Day Kindle deals in 2026 will arrive on June 23 and run until June 26th, starting and ending strictly at midnight in your region. The event will be active in the UK and US, and although Kindle deals tend to be uniform across both territories, you don't always see exact equivalents. Occassionally, Early Bird offers that happen in the week leading up to Prime Day can include Kindles, so bear that in mind if you want to get the absolute best offers you can before stock starts to get competitive.

Do you need a Prime membership for Prime Day Kindle deals?

Although a lot of Prime Day deals don't turn out to be Prime exclusive, any deals on Amazon Products like Fire TVs or Kindles are usually locked behind a Prime subscription paywall. Having said that, take a look at the trial below to try and skirt around paying for it.

Razer's Kraken Kitty Kitty V2 USB headset is part of Prime Day, but you're better off with the V3 Pro

While browsing through the best PS5 headset Prime Day deals today, I spotted that Razer's adorable Kraken Kitty USB wired headset was down to $47.48 (Amazon) this week.

It's not a bad deal, especially considering the pair is equipped with Razer's iconic 40mm Triforce audio drivers, but it's not compatible with the PS5. This wired headset doesn't use a 3.5mm headphone connection, and so you can't pop it into the headphone jack of the DualSense controller.

If you want a cat-ear headset that is PS5 compatible, you're far better off sticking with the Razer Kraken Kitty V3 Pro, which is $169 at Amazon instead. It comes with a 2.4GHz wireless dongle, so you've got PS5 support right out of the box. Sadly, the white version I reviewed (and that you can see above) is not included in the sales, but you can grab the pink and black versions, which are equally cute and also include those customizable RGB cat ears (and PS5 support).

There aren't any PS5 Pro Prime Day deals, but that's just what I expected

I've been in the market for a PS5 Pro for a while now, namely as my chonky launch model console feels like it's about to give up the ghost. But I wasn't holding out hope to see any Pro deals this week.

Why? As the pixel-pushing beast received a price increase as recently as April 2, 2026, earlier this year. It was $749.99, and now it's $899.99, a price that I simply can't budget for.

Right now, despite the Prime Day savings, the console is still sitting at $899 (Amazon) today, a price that I simply don't feel comfortable buying myself or recommending to anyone, even those who have yet to get any PS5 to call their own.

Its new loft MSRP is not likely to change any time soon. And if the prices of the Steam Machine are any indication, I have a feeling the PS6 Pro is going to be even more eye-watering when it comes into existence.

This wireless headset makes your head literally shake with excitement, and it's $120 off this Prime Day

The Skullcandy Crusher PLYR 720 wireless gaming headset is one of those pairs of cups I've reviewed that's garnered a "woah" reaction from friends and family, and for good reason.

It includes additional bass drivers in each cup that make it shake alongside the bass frequencies of your favorite games. During testing, I used the pair to play Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, and it made fights even more exhilarating as the excitement was literally coursing through my body. Ichiban would be proud.

The headset also sounds incredible, and it's down to just $149.99 off today. There's a PlayStation and an Xbox model available, but if you want to save the most cash, I recommend sticking to the Xbox version. It works fine with the PS5 (trust me, that's the one I tested), and you're saving an extra $30 off by grabbing it. Cableguys is a brand that has a range of little statues based on a ton of iconic characters that can hold your controller, and I'm obsessed with their Astro Bot version.

As you can see from the image above, I use it to hold my Seagate Astro Bot hard drive or my Astro Bot controller, as it feels super fitting. But regardless of what I put in his little robot hands, it looks absolutely adorable sitting in front of my PS5 at all times.

Begrudgingly, it's not part of this week's Prime Day deals, but if you're an Astro Bot fan, I'd even recommend it at its full $29.99 price. You can use it to hold not just your PS5 pad, but your phone, or even an Xbox controller if you're feeling rebellious.

Resident Evil Requiem has dropped to a tasty record low if you're itching for some classic survival horror

Resident Evil Requiem is a fantastic addition to the franchise, but it was pretty pricey at launch. I'm not surprised if even the most die-hard of Resi fans have been waiting for it to get a little cheaper, and today is definitely that day.

Instead of an eye-watering $69.99, it's now a more reasonable $55.99, a new record low for the standard PS5 physical version of the game.

If you are going to finally grab the game, just be sure not to play the opening Grace segment with all the lights off. I made that mistake, and it kept me up all night and had me looking like a sleep-deprived zombie for the next few days. That's not the kind of zombie experience you want with Resident Evil, trust me.

This is a bit of a cheeky deal to bring to your attention.

It's not a DualSense controller that you can use to play your favorite PS5 games, but an officially licensed neon light of one by Paladone. Regardless, it's a really neat thing to add to any PS5 gaming setup, and I'm even contemplating hunting down where I get my hands on one in the UK to do just that.

I have plenty Paladone products in my home, and the brand's quality never misses. But I'd sooner have this adorable PS5 pad on my wall that shows little bots from Astro Bot hanging out on the touch pad instead. My DualSense controllers are all showing their age, and I'm desperate to pick up a replacement.

Sadly, Prime Day is pretty barren with any deals on an official alternative, which is super disappointing. Only the DualSense carries Sony's haptic tech, which is one of the reasons why I adore the current-gen console as much as I do.

At least there are some PS5 controller deals to be found, like the Razer Raiju V3 Pro Wireless Esports Controller, which is down to $136.80 (Amazon) and is officially licensed for the console. It even comes with a protective carry case to help keep it protected and safe between uses, something that'd likely make it last longer than my other pads. It's naturally missing the haptic tech, but if you're also looking for a DualSense replacement, it's worth checking out this week while its Prime Day savings last.

This is another not-technically-not-a-Prime-Day-deal, but it's definitely worth bringing to your attention, as you can grab a $100 PlayStation Gift Card to top up your account for just $88. (So long as you're based in the US.)

If you had your heart set on grabbing that GTA 6 Ultimate Edition pre-order tomorrow, this is going to help with that, as you'd essentially be saving $12 off its $99.99 MSRP. Well, so long as that collector's edition can be ordered through the PlayStation store.

Silent Hill f has dropped to $29.83 at Amazon today, a new record-low for the Amazon Exclusive Day One Edition that sports some of the most gorgeous box art I've seen on any PS5 game to date. But if you do grab today's deal, please be warned that scarecrows will be ruined for you, forever.

Growing up, I loved scarecrows as I was a big fan of the 1939 MGM Wizard of Oz movie. Now, looking at them fills me with chills and the fear that they'll lunge toward me with a sickle in hand. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, you will once you play through Silent Hill f.

PS5 SSD deals are not a thing this Prime Day, but some extra storage will help with that upcoming GTA 6 install

If I'm allowed to put my tinfoil hat on for a moment - I wonder if one of the reasons behind Rockstar's decision not to provide discs with the physical PS5 copies of GTA 6 is because the game is simply too big.

If that's the case, you should prepare for the hefty install size to come with a PS5 SSD, if you haven't got one already. I currently have a 4TB SSD similar to this Lexar 4TB NM790 drive available for $559.99 at Amazon in my own PS5, so I should be okay once GTA 6 drops on November 19, later this year.

Sadly, there isn't a Prime Day saving to be found on this SSD, or any others, really. The ongoing effects of the RAM Storage Crisis mean drives are as pricey as ever. However, this SSD was as high as $719 in March earlier this year, according to our handy CamelCamelCamel price checker, so it its price could be a lot worse.

Life is Strange is one of my favorite game series of all time, namely as I love media with timey wimey plots and top-tier game soundtracks, of which the series has plenty of.

Square Enix recently popped the franchise into one collection, which is currently on sale right now for $39.99 at Amazon, a saving of $20 off its full $59.99 price. It is missing the latest entry to the franchise, Life is Strange Reunion. However, you can always pick it up afterwards if this collection manages to turn you into a die-hard Life is Strange fan. I'm playing Marvel Rivals again, and these discounted PS5 thumbsticks helped me secure my MVP status

Earlier today, I wrote a little about KontrolFreek's PS5 thumbsticks and the fact that I have a pair on every single one of my DualSense controllers. However, if I were to pick my favorite from the lot, it'd be these Strawberry Sage Edition versions.

I adore the bright pastel coloring of these thumbsticks, as they help lighten up my otherwise dreary old PS5 gamepads. But it's not just their gorgeous color palette, which is why I hold them in such high regard. It's actually down to how comfortable and grippy they make my pad's sticks.

These thumbsticks have a slightly sticky texture, which helps make gripping a lot easier, even during the sweatiest and most heated of Marvel Rival matches. With these, I've been able to get my first MVP in ages as Jeff the Land Shark in Blood Hunt mode, which is a nice change after being away from the game for so long.

The only issue with these grips is that the textured surface is prone to catching dust and debris, so they do need cleaning on a regular basis. But otherwise, these are a great addition to any PS5 pad, especially when they're under $10 for Prime Day.

With GTA 6 only a few months away, it's time to start making sure your gaming set-up is up to snuff. Sure, you've already got a console — I hope —but there are a few other pieces of kit which will help you enjoy the game to its fullest extent.

Usually, upgrading your gaming set-up could cost quite a bit, but it's Prime Day currently, which means you can pick up the right items at a discounted price. We're seeing TVs, projectors, soundbars, controllers, headsets and speakers all reduced, and so if you've been planning a system glow-up before Grand Theft Auto comes out, there won't be a time like now.

Finding a way to represent Leonida visually will be incredibly important for enjoying GTA 6. If you're squinting to see what's going on, you won't be doing justice to this visually-impressive game... and you might find it hard to actually appreciate the gameplay itself.

TVs are usually the go-to option for gaming, but spare a thought for the best gaming projector too. They can often let you view on a much bigger area than a TV, and they have some added versatility so you can move rooms or walls.

One of the most underrated upgrades a gaming set-up can enjoy is in the audio department. There's nothing worse than relying on tinny audio coming from your TV, or having to connect your AirPods if you need to play quietly.

Soundbars and eARC speakers are great for room-filling sound, to create an immersive experience. But headsets can often offer a similar effect, by putting the drivers nearer your ears. If you don't mind wearing them for your long gaming sessions, they'll be much more space-efficient, and have built-in mics for when you enjoy the online component.

Getting a good controller is less of an 'upgrade', given that GTA 6 isn't a competitive online game, but some premium (and not-quite-premium) controllers offer a more refined experience. Haptic buttons, hall triggers and customizable face buttons can all offer a more enjoyable gaming experience than whatever came included in your console.

The official install size for GTA 6 hasn't been confirmed, but most people are expecting it to require at least 200GB, and possibly a lot more than that.

If your console is already filling up, you've got two options. Either try and free up space by deleting games, making some tricky decisions about what you're happy not playing for a while... or getting a storage expansion.

Both of the above picks will hold GTA 6 with ease. No, they're not cheap, but that's modern memory for you, and at least they're below their current MSRPs.

The Super Pocket is neat, but finding the Neo Geo version for under $50 is neater

I've tested all the best retro handhelds around, and the Super Pocket sits pretty at the top of my list. I mean, it's a portable that uses physical cartridges in 2026 and costs less than most Switch games, and there's now even a Rare Edition that can run Banjo-Kazooie. If you're more into classic arcade fighters, like King of Fighters and Fatal Fury, I've just found the perfect version for you, as the Neo Geo flavor is under $50 thanks to Prime Day.

It's more like one of those weird door wedge 2DS portables from the 2010s than the OG clamshell, but having played all my favorites on one, I can confirm it's an excellent alternative.

RAMageddon is impacting retro handheld prices, but Prime Day is helping

Let's be real, 2026 is not a great time for picking up any hardware, as AI datacentres are driving up the price of components and memory. That naturally impacts the price of retro handhelds too, and brands like Retroid and Ayn have already signalled that things are tough. It's for that reason that I was worried there'd be no discount opportunities this year, but Prime Day is making a different to the overall pricing of portables.

I'll be sharing any worthwhile retro handheld deals that pop up, but I've always stumbled across some surprises. I wasn't expecting the previously shared MagicX Zero 40 to take a cut, and while I was hoping the Super Pocket would dip under $50, I wasn't convinced it would since Blaze, a UK company, is subject to US tariffs. In any case, it looks like savings are on the menu, so watch this space for some nice emulation offers.

I've found a potential cure for jittery PS2 visuals

I'm continually searching for ways to improve my retro setup, and while the OSSC does a great job upscaling my old consoles, the PS2 gives me a headache. That's because it uses an interlaced signal, meaning that when it's converted to progressive scan, you get an annoying flickering effect.

Therefore, I've decided to take advantage of a Prime Deal on the ODV-GBS-C, an alternative HDMI upscaler that features motion-adaptive de-interlacing. Should you save your money for a CRT TV?

The latter approach will provide you with an extremely authentic setup, complete with real scanlines, pixel separation, and the right glow for visuals made decades ago.

That said, using old screens comes with massive caveats. For starters, if you don't want to pay over the odds for one in decent condition, you'll have to get lucky with finding one on the curb side or risk having one delivered via an online marketplace like eBay. I'd strongly advise against the latter as someone who has had to repair damaged sets over time, and sometimes just wear and tear can be the death of a CRT.

Simply put, if you're hellbent on enjoying the most authentic visuals possible, chance your arm at grabbing a CRT. Otherwise, if you manage to pinch a great Prime Day monitor deal instead, an HDMI upscaler like the OSSC or GBS-C could help you achieve nice results, especially if you bag an OLED panel.

Not only is Sonic celebrating his 35th birthday, but the N64 30th anniversary is underway! Yes, Ninty's first 3D console released three decades ago today in Japan, so you've got another reason to retrieve your old system from the attic and pair it with some new accessories this Summer.

If you've got a screen from the past 15 years, though, and want to give old graphics a chance to look right, you'll need to part with some cash. That doesn't mean you have to go bananas this Prime Day, and if you've got a more mature LCD display with analogue inputs, you might be happy letting your TV do all the upscaling and digital conversion. That will lead to scrappier-looking results that suffer from stretched aspect ratios, blurry pixels, and latency, which is why it's best to at least explore even some of the cheaper HDMI adapters.

On the controller side of things, I also spend a lot of time refurbishing old gamepads. If you're savvy with taking old accessories apart and spucing them up, that could save you some pennies, but otherwise, you might end up with sticky buttons and drifty sticks. In that instance, it's sometimes better just to buy a box-fresh modern alternative with new features and capabilities, as there are plenty of options out there that can plug straight into everything from the SNES and Genesis to the PS2.

Not many original Nintendo 64 joysticks made it out of the '90s alive, and you've got swinging Bowser around in Super Mario 64 for that. The issue is that some of the first replacement sticks had accuracy issues, so I was delighted when I finally upgraded my Gamepad with Hyperkin's hall-effect joystick.

Not only does the hall-effect tech remove any risk of traditional stick drift, but the new PCB inside produces readings close to the OG potentiometer. However, that must have got 8Bitdo's back up, as it now has a TMR thumbstick included in this year's Prime Day sale. Both types of tech use similar magnetic solutions, but TMR measures changes in magnetic resistance rather than just detecting magnets using a sensor, which technically allows for better sensitivity.

While the original red version was primarily designed to give your Switch or any other system with aging 720p visuals, the accessory maker later whipped up a green version specifically for retro consoles.

It just so happens that it's the mClassic "Retro Edition" that has dipped under $40 for Prime Day. I should stress it's not ideal for every setup, and I only tend to plug it in if I'm playing a specific PS2/OG Xbox era game that could do with a smoothing over. If you enjoy the naturally jaggy look of old pixels, especially on '90s 3D systems, you probably won't get much out of this dongle. What I will say, though, is that it's another handy tool to add to your arsenal that can improve visuals in specific situations, and its current price makes it worth trying.

However, I'm seeing virtually no deals on retro consoles, handhelds, or gadgets at any of those rivals, and the fact that both feature third-party sellers trying to flog those shady "1,000 games in one" gizmos means you should be careful when browsing discounts.

Don't get me wrong, Amazon has an abundance of those crummy plug-and-play consoles, too, but it feels like the official Prime Day sale includes more gadgets actually worth looking at by established brands. If I do find something elsewhere, you'll be the first to know, but I thought I'd highlight the situation with savings this week outside of the subscriber sale.

Believe it or not, sellers at Amazon still have stock of the Neo Geo Mini arcade machine from 2018. Out of the various microcomputer plug-and-play remakes I've tried, the Atari 400 Mini remains my favorite. Its got a bunch of games included, and runs some absurd oddities from my collection (looking at you Carnival Massacre), and while it is very gradually getting cheaper as Prime Day unfolds, I'm still waiting for some sort of new record low.

In fairness, under $85 for an HDMI console that'll looks like your dad's computer from the '70s and ran also run Atari 5200 games isn't bad. If you're planning on using an OSSC to upscaler your N64, you'll need an extra gizmo

Retro upscalers like the OSSC and ODV GBS-C will help you plug most retro consoles into your modern TV, but there is a big catch if you're using Ninty's first 3D system. While it's rivals like the PS1 and Sega Saturn boast RGB output that's compatible with both devices, the N64 is stuck with composite or S-video. That means if you want to use an unmodded machine with either upscaler, you'll need something to convert your signal.

Luckily, there is a gadget by the same folks that make the GBS-C that will take your composite signal and transcode it to RGB. By using the ODV-II as a middleman, you'll be able to then hook straight into either upscaler and beam your N64 visuals using HDMI. The results won't be quite as vibrant or crisp as a true RGB signal, but it'll certainly get you playing Ocarina of Time in HD on original hardware. For context, I use a 30-year-old version of the same thing by Sony, so the newer orange box will take up far less space.

Yes, we're getting a standalone Banjo-Kazooie collection in October, and it's for that reason that it's potentially wiser to grab the Super Pocket Neo Geo Edition for $49.99, then pick up the cart in a few months' time. For what it's worth, I don't think the unbranded Chinese portable is a terrible device, and I've encountered plenty like it that provide serviceable performance for earlier 8-bit and 16-bit games. It's weird, CRT-style screen lens admittedly looks striking, and don't get me started on the woodgrain version.

That said, I honestly don't think this is a deal worth screaming about. For starters, you can easily find this 4-inch vertical handheld at AliExpress for around $40, so Prime Day isn't doing anything new here. Plus, there are portables, like the Anbernic RG35XX Plus, that normally drop during the sales and can handle PS1 games, and I reckon you'd be better off waiting for those discounts or spending a bit more on something that'll properly fulfil your emulation needs.

Your Game Boy is hungry for batteries, so let it eat

I don't know about you, but my OG Game Boy loves to devour packets of AA batteries. While I do have some handhelds with battery mods, I do like to sometimes play on a stock DMG just to keep things authentic. If you've still got Ninty's brick, or even a Game Boy Color with an AMOLED screen that's extra thirsty, it's worth using Prime Day to pick up some rechargeable cells and a charging box while they're cheaper.

8Bitdo's dockable retro controller is sitting pretty for Prime Day

In many ways, the 8Bitdo Pro 3 looks like the gamepad for the unreleased Nintendo PlayStation. It's for that reason that it's a "one gamepad fits all" option, as it's got that classic Ninty d-pad, symmetrical Sony-style sticks, and longer grips like an OG DualShock. If that sounds like something you'd use with virtually every system you own, you'll be pleased as punch about its current Prime Day discount.

For under $50, you're getting the 8Bitdo Pro 3 Bluetooth controller and a charging dock. That's everything you need out of the box for playing classics on PC or Switch, and if you want to make it a part of your original retro console setup, it will link up to adapters and Retro Receivers.

I'd love to highlight some console mods this Prime Day, but Amazon isn't so keen

Amazon is pretty well stocked when it comes to retro console mods, as the same Highspeedio kit I used to HDMI mod my N64 is available. The bad news is that, for whatever reason, parts like this rarely get a discount during Prime Day, and while you're cheaper off grabbing the conversion board at Aliexpress anyway, a discount paired with quicker delivery would have made for a winning offer.

Still, if you're not afraid of a bit of soldering and want an easy way to hook up your N64 to a TV, you'll perhaps still find the HDMI mod handy.

CRT TVs are beautiful, but OLED monitors are the next best thing for retro gaming

I own far too many CRT TVs, so believe me when I say I believe they're the best screens for any console made before 2006. However, new OLED panels pack a vibrancy and brightness punch that, if paired with nice scanline effects, can mimic the effect of an old tube.

Therefore, if you're sitting moping about the fact you haven't found a cheap CRT in working order yet, it's worth checking out Prime Day monitor deals while they're still live. You'll still pay more for the screen tech than you would for a traditional IPS display, but the results come pretty close to the glow of a vintage display, especially if you use the right visual effects.

Simply put, don't let the purists stop you from using new screens.

Every year, I toy with the idea of replacing my toaster with this Burger Time mini arcade machine

I don't have much space left in my home, let alone on my kitchen countertop. Yet, every time Prime Day rolls around, I find myself looking at this specific Quarter Arcades Burger Time machine, wondering whether it could make for elaborate décor. I already have the Quarter Arcades Bubble Bobble machine sitting pretty on my desk, but the Data East's excellent chef-themed side panel has me in its burger bun grips.

This year, there is indeed a Prime Deal discount on the Burger Time arcade machine, but I'm waiting for Amazon to go the extra mile. It's currently down to $181.77, which is cheaper than the other flavors (although it's arguably too much for a tiny cabinet with one game included). However, I've spotted it for under $100 in the past, and that's the prime that'll ultimately lead to my toaster being evicted.

There's a way to get the UK's iconic ZX Spectrum remake for less even if you're in the US

It's safe to say that the ZX Spectrum is firmly a British microcomputing icon. That perhaps explains why the historically significant "The Spectrum White Edition" is down to £110.49 from £129.99 in the UK, but is showing up for $187.56 in the US.

Thankfully, you don't have to settle for the latter higher price if you're itching to try the microcomputer for yourself, as you can log into Amazon UK and order it to a US address. I've tested this on my end, and if my calculations are correct, the end total should be $150.27, even with import fees and delivery factored in. That's still a little price, but perhaps a small price to pay to import a special edition, HDMI version of a fantastically '80s feeling machine and 48 built-in classics.

Please don't try and buy original retro consoles or games at Amazon this Prime Day

I know for a fact some of you will have typed things like "NES console" or "Sega Genesis" into Amazon and will be looking at real retro console listings. Some of you may even be looking at original copies of games, but I need you to think twice before adding any of those to your cart.

It's easy to forget that Amazon is a marketplace, so you'll get sellers trying to flog original retro consoles and games just like at eBay. The difference is that, more often than not, these merchants list hardware and software at significantly higher prices in the hope that unsuspecting buyers won't realize they're paying over the odds, and with Prime Day happening, you may see rogue "deals" that are still way more expensive than other second-hand listings.

Ultimately, I'm saying you shouldn't buy original retro consoles or games at Amazon, and I can guarantee you won't get a Prime Day deal on any vintage systems released decades ago.

This NES clone is already pretty cheap, but I'll take an extra few dollars off

I'm not saying the Hyperkin Retron HD is the best NES console clone out there, but it's serviceable for the price. You're getting an HDMI system that will run your original cartridges, comes with a controller, and even retains AV ports just in case you've got a CRT TV. Simply put, it'll enable you to play your old physical games with ease, and while it's only a few dollars cheaper for Prime Day, it's already pretty cheap.

If you've already heard the gatekeepers make jabs at the Retron HD for not having the right colors, you shouldn't let that deter you. It turns out that there is no consensus on NES color accuracy, and even Nintendo doesn't have an official answer for how games like Super Mario Bros should look.

8Bitdo's Retro Receiver perfectly matches the purple GameCube, but you'll want its rival for Switch 2 controller compatibility

I love the look of 8Bitdo's GameCube Retro Receiver. Not only has the company color-matched the purple hue of the 2000s console perfectly, but it even feels like an official Nintendo accessory. So, you can imagine my sheer disappointment upon realizing it isn't compatible with the shiny new Switch 2 Online GameCube controller, as Ninty changed up its firmware. If you're not planning on using that pad, you can grab the dongle for $19.99, but otherwise, you'll need an alternative solution

The solution ended up being the open-source BlueRetro GameCube Wireless Adapter. It doesn't remotely tie in with the Cube's aesthetic, as it features a transparent shell and sticks out of the controller port further. But, it does fully support Switch 2 pads, including the new Online remake, and that means it's functionally speaking a superior accessory (it's also cheaper).

We're just about halfway through "Prime Week", so I thought I'd take a count of the offers I've hand-picked so far. By my count, I've shared over 50 deals on the feed, and unlike some pages you'll come across on the internet, AI tools are banned from this retro hub. That means every discount featured here has been carefully assessed by me and price checked before being presented to you on a convenient platter, and unlike any silly chatbots, I've actually tested everything I've highlighted.

I've also been offering up plenty of retro gaming advice in between the deals, as there's more to the craft than grabbing a discount. There's no point saving money on the wrong gadgets for your needs, and I'd rather tell you to hold off on picking something up than share a discount without a purpose. In any case, the sale is proving fruitful so far for revisiting some of the best games ever, and I'll be here until the event ends on Friday.

I need Atari to show me they money (off)

I'm pretty surprised we don't have more discounts on the Atari 2600+ and its '80s 7800+ sibling. Typically speaking, both tend to take a hit during sales like Prime Day, but I've yet to see even a small offer happen on both remakes. It's slightly curious, especially since they're the types of systems that boast actual cartridge support and HDMI output, and even a small saving can nudge casual players and enthusiasts to buy one.

Amazon has discounted the My Arcade Atari Gamestation Go, though, a beefy all-in-one handled that provides every control type you could possibly need. Paddle? Check. Number pad? Check. It's a bizarre contraption, but for $140.99, you will be able to authentically play over 200 built-in 8-bit capers virtually anywhere.

My personal retro dongle purchase this year is...

While Phil takes a much-deserved break, I (Rollin Bishop, US Managing Editor) am now at the wheel! Phil's done an excellent job scouring the best Prime Day deals over at Amazon, so I figured this would be a good opportunity to explicitly recommend the one purchase I've made myself: 8BitDo's Bluetooth retro receiver dongle for the PS1/PS2.

Having recently dug my PS2 out of storage to play some Metal Slug on the family TV, I'd been considering how to handle all the cords of the traditional controllers as my cat loves to chew on anything with electricity running through it. Look, there's a reason 8BitDo is all over our recommendations here, and part of it boils down to it's simply one of the most consistent companies to actually chase the retro market with largely quality releases. Case in point: this 8BitDo Pro 3 controller with charging dock.

Phil had actually recommended this earlier, but it's even cheaper now at $45.59 for Amazon Prime members. While I'd not purchased this bit of kit this time around, I actually did pick up the GameCube-looking one from Woot some months back and highly recommend it. It's not the same color scheme that's on deep discount, but it's functionally the same controller.

I had been hoping for better Evercade deals, personally

My personal white whale this week has been to keep an eye on the various Evercade consoles, portable or otherwise, for the right price point for me to finally pull the trigger. Specifically, I'd been watching the Evercade VS-R, which as Phil previously noted was available just under $80. Still a bit too rich for my blood, personally, and even that is currently out of stock.

Finally a way to store SNES carts that makes sense

Is this Hyperkin storage two-pack the best way to keep your SNES carts sorted? That I can't say for sure. What I can say is that my current solution of "put them on a shelf together and hope for the best" and previous solution of "inside a plastic tote, I guess" both leave something to be desired. 15% off isn't exactly going to blow anyone away, but it makes for a record-low price – and hey, you can stack them!

As you can probably tell, it's a tough time out there for anything resembling a good deal. As someone that's done this song and dance for literal decades, if there's one thing I've learned it's this: don't buy something just to buy it.

If it doesn't immediately jump out to you when you see it, if the price doesn't immediately make you think, "Oh, that's a steal," don't bother. From experience, this has more often than not caused me to buy bits and bobs I don't actually want let alone need. I've bins full of past "deals" that ultimately didn't make any meaningful change in my life.

By all means, buy retro gaming deals during the Prime Day sales! But take a beat to make sure you actually want it and you'll actually use it; you'll thank me later.

The 8BitDo Lite 2 Bluetooth gamepad is another previous pickup of mine during a prior sale that has really withstood the test of time. While technically advertised as being for the Switch and Switch Lite, by and large, I've found this delightfully compact controller serves basically all of my on-the-go needs. If you're lugging around anything with a Bluetooth dongle or just want a space-saving option for a solid controller, it's hard to go wrong with the Lite 2 given it's record-low price at the moment.

The Piranha Plant Switch 2 camera is on sale, but you're better off sticking with Ninty's version instead

The Hori Piranha Plant Switch 2 camera dropped to $29.99 at Amazon on the lead up to Prime Day, and it's seems to be sticking to that price. However, unless you're happy with a 480p image quality and looking like a blurry mess of pixels on the screen, I'd much sooner recommend you grab the first Switch 2 camera that launched alongside the handheld last year.

It's down to the same $29.99 price, but it has a 1080p image resolution, which is the minimum of what you should expect in this day and age. It might not look cute and have a Super Mario baddie design, but much prefer my tech be a baddie in the specs department.

I found the perfect touch pens for Tomodachi Life, and now they're part of Prime Day

I've been playing Tomodachi Life Living the Dream since launch, but it wasn't until I grabbed a pair of stylus pens that I truly became obsessed.

Before them, I was left to use the crusty tips of my fingers to create Miis and they ended up looking more like my sleep paralysis demons than the anime characters they were inspired by. However, with the Meko 3-in-1 Stylus Pens I was able to create characters for my island that were more in-line with what I had imagined.

Now, I have characters like Frieren from Frieren Beyond Journey's End and even the embodiment of GamesRadar+ itself running around, and I've even been able to draw custom album covers for my Miis to listen to. The pens were also super affordable to begin with which is why I initially added them to my setup. However, Prime Day has meant they're now marked down to just $8.54 - a price well worth it if you're as obsessed with Tomodachi Life as I am.

I love a gimmick accessory, so the CRKD Atom was always going to catch my attention.

This Switch 2-compatible pad is teeny tiny. It's about the size of my thumb, and yet this small controller is still able to connect to to the Switch 2 and play games like Mario Kart World. It's not the most comfortable of experiences, and I'd recommend it more do those who travel and want an extra pad for playing older Nintendo games via NSO with friends.

But at just $10.84 right now across range of funky designs, you can't really go wrong. I wouldn't judge you if you grabbed it this Prime Day purely as a display piece, or a keychain for your backpack.

This Switch 2 JSAUX Charging Grip deal is perfect for any fellow official Joy-Con grip haters

I really don't like the official Joy-Con controller grip that's packaged with every Switch 2 console. The weird oval-rounded backs are super uncomfortable, and its glossy texture has caused me a few 2nd placements in Mario Kart World.

Thankfully there are alternatives out there, like the JSAUX Switch 2 Charging Grip, which include a set of optional ergonomic handles. These have a textured surface that making gripping easy, and the actual accessory itself also charges the Switch 2 Joy-Cons as you use them. It's also positioned as a slight angle that matches the feeling of using a Pro controller, something again that the official basic grip can't muster.

Heads up - Star Fox is heading to the Switch 2 this week

There's a lot going on this week. There's of course, Prime Day, but the brand-new Star Fox game is also landing on the Switch 2 on June 25.

As someone who grew up on Starwing on the SNES and Lylat Wars on the N64 (yes, we had different names for the games over here) I am incredibly excited for my copy to arrive in the post. However, I still have a day to wait. That's bad news for me, but good news for those of you who still need to pick it up before launch day.

Pokemon Legends Z-A is down to its lowest ever price - perfect to keep you busy until Winds and Waves

Pokemon Legends Z-A is one of my favorite Switch 2 games so far but I never suspect it'd drop as low as $44.99 during Prime Week. It usually takes a few years for a first-party Ninty game to be marked down toa price this reasonable, so this is a nice surprise.

If you prefer action RPGs to old-school turn-based ones, this game will be for you. It also includes some of the best writing in a Pokemon game so far, with allies that feel fleshed out and full of character. I've even made sure to pick up Pokemon TCG cards based on characters in Z-A as I still adore them despite it being almost 8 months since I finished the game.

There's still a long wait to go until the next mainline Pokemon game releases, so if you want to keep yourself distracted before Pokemon Wind and Waves, Legends Z-A is a great game to keep yourself busy.

A coupon just dropped for these already cheap and fabulous SIVGA M260 wired Switch 2 earbuds

I recently added this pair of wired earbuds to my every-day music and gaming setup, and I'm glad I did.

With the USB-C port at the top of the handheld, plugging the SIVGA M260 wired earbuds into the Switch 2 is a total breeze, and they sound absolutely sublime. While small, the included 14.2mm audio drivers pack a punch, and manage to bring out the nuances of any Nintendo game score, even that of the very loud and frantic Donkey Kong Bananza.

As they're wired, I haven't had to worry about charging too, which is a huge relief. It's not like plenty of the best Nintendo Switch headsets don't have a great battery life, but sometimes I just want to sit back and get absorbed in a game without worrying or keep tracking of anything else, and these allow me to do just that.

The saving today is rather small, as the included coupon only drops a few dollars off the buds full $45 MSRP. However, any saving off an already fairly priced bit of tech is still a welcome Prime Day discount in my eyes.

Amazon just dropped some bountiful Switch 2 game deals

The Nintendo Switch 2 has been around for a little over a year, if you can believe that, and so there were bound to be savings on a range of first-party games this Prime Day. I just wasn't sure what would get the discount treatment, but in the end, I'm pretty happy with the selection so far.

Three major first-party Switch 2 titles that have reached new record lows, ranging from the sci-fi epic of Metroid Prime 4 to the adorable yet hectic Kirby Air Riders. As this is just the start of this week's Prime Day savings, I'm hoping to see more big Switch 2 releases drop to similar lows, but three is better than nothing.

The Turtle Beach Airlite Fit is my go-to budget headset, and it remarkably just got even cheaper

If you're a parent with a little Nintendo fan in your life that's been pestering you for a headset, the Turtle Beach Airlite Fit is worth picking up.

At its full $27.99 price, it's a great budget option for the Switch 2, as it's cheap, lightweight, and its 40mm audio drivers provide a surprisingly great sound. It also features a snazzy design that mimics the look and style of the new handheld, and that design in particular is down to just $17.73 this Prime Day.

As far as officially licenced Switch 2 headsets go, you aren't going to find an option much cheaper than this that still boasts a lovely sound quality.

The design of this Switch 2 case is so good my partner 'borrowed' mine, but I can easily buy another thanks to Prime Day

Earlier this year, I tested the Turtle Beach PlayTrek Travel Case, in both its Mario Bricks and Donkey Kong design - the latter of which has been borrowed by my partner, and I'm unlikely to ever see it ever again.

The reason? He's obsessed with its lenticular design, which is a fancy word to say that the image on the exterior 'moves' depending on the angle you look at it.

The 8BitDo Ultimate 2 (aka the reason why I don't need a Switch 2 Pro controller) has joined Prime Day

I had the opportunity to test the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 late last year, and I'm glad I did, as it's given me a reason to save my cash and never pick up the Switch 2 Pro controller.

The premium pad may not have the amiibo support of the newer Pro, but as I like to hop between my Switch 2, PC, and my Steam Deck (all three platforms it's compatible with), this pad has given more than enough value. It's got that same, super comfortable asymmetrical design as the Pro, but includes the extra benefit of anti-stick-drift TMR sticks, customizable RGB lighting, and it comes packaged with a light-up charging stand.

Most importantly, it just feels great to use. The setup is a bit convoluted, which is why I tend to also keep an officially licensed Switch 2 controller nearby, but drifting through courses in Mario Kart World feels tight and precise with this pad's robust trigger buttons and comfortable sticks. Final Fantasy 14 is officially coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in August later this year, and I'm hoping that will give me an excuse to finally, well, get into an MMO, and use the handheld's mouse controls.

There's still up to $10 off a ton of upcoming Switch 2 games at Amazon, but these pre-launch deals won't be around forever

For some very welcome reason, Amazon has $10 off a range of upcoming Switch 2 games, which aren't even out yet.

As someone who likes to pre-order their Ninty games as soon as possible so they can ensure they arrive at my door on release, I'm not complaining. It's just intriguing that it's not just one game that has these early pre-roder deals, but a whole stack of them.

If you fancy yourself some Star Fox, it's currently $49.94 right now, which is $10 off its full $59.99 MSRP for a physical copy. It's a similar story with Splatoon Raiders, which is available for $49.94 instead of its $59.99 full price. There's also Orbitals, that retro-anime inspired co-op game that I'm super excited for (which will surprise absolutely no one on the GamesRadar+ hardware team), which is $39.88 instead of its $49.99 price too.

I fully suspect these pre-order deal prices won't be around for long, so if you want to grab any of these titles and save some cash in the process, you know what to do.

My friend finally bought a Switch 2, and these are the accessory Prime Day deals I sent his way

My friend just came to me asking for Nintendo Switch 2 accessory recommendations now that they've finally secured their new handheld, and I answered the same as I would to anyone: you need a microSD Express card, a screen protector, and a case.

This tiny Game Boy-inspired Switch 2 game case is cheaper than ever, and I couldn't say no

Switch game cases are weird.

I wouldn't especially recommend them to everyone, as taking a ton of physical Switch and Switch 2 games on the go runs the risk of you losing a big chunk of your collection at once. When you factor in that Nintendo tax, that could result in you losing a hefty amount of cash, so you should only really be taking one or two physical games with you at a time.

That being said, I absolutely adore the things as brands tend to get pretty creative when it comes to their designs. The elago Switch Game Case is the best example of this, as it looks like a Game Boy has been shrunk down to size. It's not just adorable, but elago made it so that storing your Switch 2 carts inside will display its art like the screen of the iconic handheld, just without those strange green pixels.

The moment I saw this Switch game case included amongst the Prime Day deals in both the US and UK, I have to admit I ordered one as soon as possible. I'll likely just keep it on my desk as a little display piece, but it was hard to ignore at just a little over $10 / £10.

Best Buy's Switch 2 amiibo deals are a prime example of why you should shop around this Prime Day

Big retailers like Best Buy like to host their own competitive discounts whenever Prime Day rolls around, and these are worth checking out if you're okay pulling your eyes away from the overwhelming amount of Amazon savings.

Amiibo is a prime example of this, as there have yet to be any great deals on the NFC collectibles across Amazon so far. However, Best Buy has figures like the Street Fighter 6 Luke amiibo down to just $5 today, which is an incredible deal, especially when you consider it's one of the larger figures in the series to be released so far.

In the UK, we don't have anything that comes close to these kinds of savings, so I'm incredibly jealous as a collector. I could grab Luke for a similar price here in the UK, I'd do it in a heartbeat, so I highly recommend you do just that before the discounts disappear for good.

These Switch 2 SD card Prime Day deals can help you prepare for Deltarune Chapter 5 this week

Deltarune Chapter 5 is launching on June 24 at 11:00am EDT and will be free for all of those who have already purchased the game. Despite memory and storage — and therefore gadgets themselves — getting a lot more expensive of late, Samsung apparently missed the memo, because a Prime Day storage discount sees a Switch 2-compatible microSD card lose half of its value.

Righty now, you can pick up a 256GB storage Samsung P9 micrSD Express card for $40 at Amazon, which is a saving of exactly 50%. There's no discount on the 512GB model, which currently sells for an eye-watering $200 (yes, two hundred), and storage discounts over Prime Day are pretty modest all around.

Amazon has several other Switch 2 microSD card deals, but I'm not finding any others that cost less than Samsung, are from a reputable company, and work on the Switch 2. So it's an ideal choice to bump up your Switch 2 storage.

Should you buy the Samsung P9 microSD card?

With transfer speeds of up to 800MB/s, this Samsung microSD card is fast enough to be sufficient for Nintendo Switch 2 gaming. Many other similar cards on Amazon, including the few other discounted ones, have much slower speeds.

This means they're not ideal for gaming with. However if you just want some extra space for your smartphone, tablet or for non-gaming purposes on your Switch, you might be able to opt for slower speeds.

What about the size? Games on the Nintendo Switch 2 typically don't take up the space space as their console or PC counterpart, so 256GB isn't as small as it initially might seem. Mario Kart World, for example, was 23.4GB, while Sonic X Shadow Generations is 24GB and Pokémon Legends: Z-A is just 7.7GB. So if you're only planning to play Switch 2 games like these, 256GB is more than enough.

Some AAA games ported to Switch 2 take up more space: Assassin's Creed Shadows needs over 62GB while Cyberpunk 2077 needs 60GB and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle needs 56GB. So if you plan to download a few of these games, you might find 256GB a little tight.

Saying that, you'll be hard-pressed to find any reasonable prices on 512GB memory cards, so I'd really recommend sticking to smaller sizes. It's cheaper to buy two 256GB cards than one 512GB right now!

It's summer sale season, which means that during this awful, RAMpocalypse-ridden year, we finally have the chance to make the most of Prime Day gaming PC deals. I haven't gone hands-on with the Steam Machine yet, but I've been tracking the prices of proper prebuilt gaming PCs for over three years now, reviewing them, building my own systems, and testing out a slew of components and upgrades. I can see the price of the Steam Machine, assess its specs, and I can comfortably tell you that even during RAMageddon, you can do better. PC gaming isn't the cheapest, but if you're going to spend that sort of money on a PC for your living room, trust me when I say that you might as well invest a little more in something that's upgradeable and has a discrete GPU to enhance your gaming performance.

So that's my mission this Prime Day. I'm going to be sifting through as many deals as humanly possible across all the retailers to secure you the best value. Newegg, Best Buy, Walmart, and of course, Amazon could hold the key to your living room PC gaming dreams, which offer better long-term value, gaming performance, and style than Valve's Steam Machine. Let's get going (and talk about sizes)

Okay, let's get this show on the road. First up, let's go over some info you might find helpful when reading this live blog.

PC sizes are a bit odd and can be confusing if you're new to talking about them, so let's define some stuff.

Valve's Steam Machine is technically a mini-PC. These often use a mix of mobile/laptop parts, one processor known as an APU that combines central and graphics processing into one. Desktop PCs are a bit different - and they come in the following sizes.

Mini ITX - these still get pretty small, but they do often have a separate GPU that still allows for great gaming performance. They can be a little quirky to build due to compromises on space and cooling, but they still use a full suite of desktop components.

mATX - this is my personal sweet spot. This is what you see in the image above. It takes a slightly smaller motherboard, but is essentially a conventional gaming PC in a smaller package. There can still be compromises when it comes to part sizes and cooling, but mostly you have access to everything larger PCs do.

ATX and EATX - these are larger sizes. These form up the bulk of the prebuilt gaming PC market because they're the most popular sizes. Most are regular ATX motherboards and cases, but more and more of the cases I saw at Computex this year were massive EATX ones.

It's good to know this stuff, because it will help you narrow down and classify the components and size of PC you want to shop for.

Smaller desktops like this could be the answer to the Steam Machine's price-to-performance

The issue with the Steam Machine's price is that without a swappable GPU, it's comparing itself to consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Although all technology has gotten more expensive this year, Valve has been the most honest with how much a gaming PC actually should set you back, which has landed the Steam Machine with a higher price tag.

The issue is that it's the same price as entry-level desktop machines that do have higher performance thanks to dedicated graphics cards, and swappable components on a conventional PC motherboard.

I wouldn't usually recommend you opt for a DDR4 system right now, but if you're looking to get a smaller size of PC that can sit to the side of a living room TV, you don't want to spend more than the cost of a Steam Machine, and you want the kind of gaming frame rates that a full-sized ATX gaming PC can give you, this is the sort of solution you should be looking to.

Quick reminder: It's not all Valve's fault

Just in case you're directing your gamer rage at Valve for the high price of the Steam Machine, I just want to point out that the price inflation is AI's fault, and that it's impacting the entire tech sector at the moment.

Case in point, an RTX 5070 gaming PC like this MSI Codex at Amazon would have set you back ~$1450 this time last year. If you want proof, check out this roundup I did last November on RTX 5070 gaming PCs. In a Prime Day deal, this one is currently discounted down from $2,052 to $1,829.99 at Amazon.

If you're going to build your own living room rig, try one of these smaller cases

These cases won't sit on your TV unit in the same way that a Steam Machine will, but for me, an m-ATX case is the sweet spot to allow you to build a gaming PC that will perform brilliantly and allow you to use a wide range of components, while also not stealing up loads of real estate.

Living room PC gamers need to know about this couch desk

Couch PC gaming can be tricky to navigate, especially if you want to still play FPS games or aren't a big fan of playing with one of the best PC controllers.

For me, this is the perfect solution. It's a couch desk that assembles over you as you sit. I've used mine for hundreds of hours at this point, and the memory foam cushions still feel as great as they always have, and the desktop surface doubles as a USB hub for whatever accessories you want to plug in.

Admittedly, these are a tad pricey, especially if you go for the gaming-tilted Cyon3. Couchmaster does have smaller options which are more affordable though, so if you aren't too fussed about surface space you can also go for one of those. Annoyingly, none of them are discounted right now, but these are good to know about while we're on the topic of PC gaming from the couch.

Does size really matter?

Get your mind out of the gutter, firstly.

Living room PC gaming would be nice if it were through a machine that was on the smaller side - that's the appeal of the Steam Machine in the first place. But would it be such a problem if your living room rig was full-sized ATX? If you can fit it at the side, or even behind your TV unit, what's the issue?

The ASUS ROG G700 isn't a smaller build, but Best Buy is offering a pretty reasonable price on it at the moment, considering you get an RTX 5060 and a DDR5 configuration.

I'm just saying, if you're deadset on the living room PC idea, does it really have to be a smaller build?

Looking for bundle benefits?

Since the Steam Machine is available bundled with its controller, you might be more drawn to a desktop PC if you also get the benefits of some accessories. Brands like CyberPowerPC and iBUYPOWER are great for this, because sometimes if you buy one of their prebuilts, you'll also get a mouse and keyboard in the box.

That's the case with this CyberPowerPC Gamer Master at Walmart, which is pushing for the title of cheapest DDR5 RTX 5060 machine across the board this Prime Day.

If you're looking for a 4K GPU upgrade amidst all of the deals going on right now, the RX 9070 XT might hold the best bang for your buck, and best of all, you're not going to be limited to the 4K60 limitations of the Steam Machine.

Intel's "fastest gaming processor ever" is currently more affordable than its older version

It felt like Intel turned a new page when it launched the Intel Core Ultra Plus processors this year, and its original pricing was pretty good.

In the days after launch, though, the two new CPUs started seeing fluctuating pricing, which may have turned people away. I'm slightly shocked at the price of the Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus today though, because it's bagged a banger of a Prime Day deal. In fact, it's actually some $10 cheaper than the original Intel Core Ultra 7 265K it replaces.

Here's another smaller build that would sit pretty next to a TV

Again, this is a DDR4 system, so I'm not crazy about it, but it's another smaller PC with solid specs that would beat the Steam Machine and would look a million dollars next to your TV.

Interestingly, this one opts for an Intel CPU as opposed to the RTX 5060 that's been seen in every other entry-level build so far this Prime Day. Newegg does have deals on other configurations of this build as well, so it might be worth checking through to see if your desired specs are there.

For your consideration, the Zotac Magnus one

This year at Computex, I saw the Magnus One Ultra at the Zotac booth, it's an updated version of a mini ITX build the brand already makes. The idea is similar to the Steam Machine, but it's working with full-sized graphics cards which will give you more of a 4K gaming oomph.

I'm not seeing any discounted ones for Prime Day or rival sales, but it might be worth knowing about if you're turned off by the price-to-performance of the Steam Machine. Zotac also offers a barebone model which comes without the RAM and SSD so you can try and find better deals than it can offer.

Want the Steam Controller kick?

I get you; the novelty of buying the Steam Machine also rests with the charm of getting its bundled controller. I also review gamepads, and I can tell you that there's nothing else quite like the Steam Controller. Its trackpads make it fully unique in the market for navigating a PC from the comfort of a couch. But as a gamepad? There are better, and more affordable options out there.

That's especially true during Prime Day, and I can already think of a few off the top of my head that would be worth investing in while you can get them for cheaper. If you want novelty, look at something like the Manba One, which has an interactive screen and lets you control all of its customizable elements without the need for companion software. It's currently going for cheaper than usual:

If you want my personal favorite controller at the moment, look at the Flydigi Apex 5, which isn't seeing a Prime Day deal, but you can save on it thanks to a 20% coupon.

You can also buy the Steam Controller separately, of course, but a lengthy waiting list might make you want to seek out some budget controllers you can buy instead.

Here's what to be careful of...

...And not for the reasons you think. Shopping for gaming PCs has gotten trickier as RAMflation has become worse because we've started to see more and more that configurations will house older components in them and think they can still charge more.

Example: this rig at Newegg, which is going for $829.99 and apparently saves you... checks notes... $770.

Just take a look at the specs:

That's right, this rig (which I do not recommend, by the way) has an RTX 3050 inside it, and an AM4 motherboard, and yet this retail page is still trying to claim it's discounted from $1,599. I don't think so.

If you are shopping for a new gaming PC this Prime Day, be on your toes because there are definitely some bad deals out there.

For the record, these specs aren't bad if you just want a budget-friendly, entry-level, or even spare PC, but this should barely cost $600 with RAMflation taken into account.

Builders, take note: motherboard bundles are the way to go

Buying all your components for a PC build can be a nightmare on your bank balance right now, so if you are going the build-your-own route, work smarter, not harder.

Motherboard bundles are honestly the saviour of the market in my eyes right now. They're not a get out of jail free card, but being able to grab a motherboard with some components (ideally some RAM) will save you money where you need to save it right now.

Annoyingly, the example I'm giving here isn't RAM-inclusive, but there are bundles out there, including this motherboard bundle I covered last week, which could really spare you some memory costs.

For now, this is just a dang good deal over at Newegg. You can get an AMD Ryzen 5 9600X processor, a 1TB Samsung 990 Pro, and a Gigabyte B850 AORUS Elite motherboard for an overall cost of $429 (saving you $249.99).

That's the base of a really great gaming rig, and a great example of why motherboard bundles like this are ones to look out for if you are building this summer.

If you're building, one of these could come in handy

A few hours into your first PC build, you'll learn the value of a good quality screwdriver. Preferably, you want a magnetic one. Ideally, you'd like a ratchet one.

Magnetic screwdrivers are massively useful for PC building because you'll need to lower a lot of screws down into your case and onto your motherboard, and if they aren't magnetic, you can assign an extra hour or two to the process just for trying to fish tiny screws out of your WIP computer.

Ratchet ones are safer for PC building because if you overtighten things, you can risk damage to your components and especially your motherboard.

I've used an Amazon Basics one with 12-in-1 head attachments. This is honestly all you're really going to need, but if you want to go heavier duty on it, I'd recommend something like the Yinsan kit in the image above. It has what seems like every screwdriver and allen key attachment you could ever need (120-in-1), as well as some applicator goodies for all sorts of techie DIY jobs.

I'm not seeing the Yinsan kit at Amazon anymore, but similar kits will likely do just as well.

Why do I think conventional desktops are better value than the Steam Machine?

If you're going to spend more money on a "normal" gaming PC, why would I argue that's better value for money than buying a more convenient system?

Good question, I'm so glad you asked.

There's a conversation to have around the Steam Machine being a console or a PC, but in my eyes, and in Valve's eyes, it's a PC. It may be the brand's take on a console, but it has a PC operating system in the same way the Steam Deck does; it's just smaller than a regular computer. Certainly, when you look at its price, there's no mistaking it; this thing isn't competing with the Switch 2 or even the PS5.

So when you consider that Valve is charging close to a grand for what is essentially a PC, I'd argue that you're spending almost the same as you would for a decent current-gen desktop system, but getting fewer of the benefits. Funnily enough, it's the same arguments I use to tell you why the PS5 Pro isn't worth your money: just buy a gaming PC instead.

For starters, the Steam machine doesn't have a discrete GPU, which is the thing that's going to allow you to unlock the best frame rates and graphical power in games.

Secondly, you're going to have a lot more trouble upgrading the Steam Machines innards, which is arguably one of the best things about a gaming PC. You can swap out parts and upgrade as needed, you're not locked to just one APU that's running the show.

Thirdly, faceplates are nice, but with a modern-day rig, you'll be able to customize its look through RGB or components you've chosen, or even LCD displays on your case or CPU cooler. There are loads of ways to personalize with gaming PCs, even if they don't have the cutsie look of Valve's console.

Lastly, connectivity is a big one. With a desktop PC's motherboard and GPU, you have scope to connect loads of devices, whether they're controllers, mice, keyboards, displays; you name it. The Steam Machine's backside doesn't have that sort of connectivity, which may not be an issue for living room gaming, but it's not ideal when you're spending almost the same amount as you would on a full-sized machine.

I'd recommend Newegg's prebuilt selection over Amazon's

If you search for gaming PC deals at Amazon, it'll pull up more affordable options than you'll see at the other bigger retailers, but you can scroll for miles without seeing a DDR5 build. This is definitely an issue with the other retailers too, but at least the futureproofed options are there for you to find.

If you're shopping for a prebuilt system this week, here's the order I'd look in:

Walmart
Amazon

I say this based on my first day of sifting through the deals, but also based on years of covering sales between all of these retailers for three and a half years now. Overall, Newegg tends to have the best selection and offer the best value for money. Best Buy and Walmart can have great prices but a slightly more limited selection, although occassionally they'll pack rigs from HP, MSI, CyberPowerPC, or iBUYPOWER that are excellent deals. Amazon has great selections for components (obviously), but its prebuilt selection is not the greatest.

My favorite thermal paste isn't discounted, but it's pretty cheap anyway

For some reason, Noctua is not coming out to play this Prime Day. I've tested a few different thermal pastes now, but none of them have been as easy to apply, as reliable in performance, or as easy to clean as Noctua's NT-H2 paste.

While you can find cheaper thermal paste at Amazon that is discounted, I'd still consider Noctua's option. You get three handy wipes with the syringe, which I can't praise enough.

This is a great Ryzen X3D deal, but it doesn't compare to the Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus

You can get the Ryzen 7800X3D for a good price at Amazon right now. It's still not its lowest price ever, but it's a good deal nonetheless. Down from an MSRP of $449, it's currently selling for $376 at Amazon, with an additional $28 coupon bringing the price down to $328 at Amazon. That's close to its historical low at the retailer of $319.

That's an amazing price for a CPU this good, but considering it's older and has fewer cores and threads than Intel's latest "flagship" option, I'm still going to point toward it as my favorite processor offer this Prime Day.

Everybody wants to have a case

My general advice on PC cases is: if it gets the job done, it's good enough. And this Zalman i3 NEO case? It gets the job for for ATX, mATX, and Mini-ITX boards. Dropping big cash on cases has never made any sense to me; my preference has always been function over form. IT doesn't hurt that it looks OK, but that's the least of my worries when I'm building something that's going to sit in a corner nobody looks at.

Sometimes it's nice to just buy the whole thing

One thing the Steam Machine and other pre-built gaming PCs have in common is an appeal to a core impulse: sometimes it really is just nice to buy the whole thing. (This is one impulse I share; the first time I ever built a PC out of parts, I somehow fried the power supply and then the motherboard.)

Take, for example, this Thermaltake LCGS build with a 1TB SSD, RTX 5070, Intel Core i5-14400F processor, and a whole 16GB worth of DDR5 RAM. Considering the rising costs of basically everything associated with PC gaming, $1,399.99 is one heck of an offer if you're in the market.

The Prime Day deals, as always, continue – and it's worth keeping in mind that if nothing caught your fancy today, there's still plenty of time for something to come along that does. If you're investing the kind of money that's required to get a nice gaming PC, especially something that might be a better value or comparable to the Steam Machine, you'll want to really weigh your options.

...including all the extremely cool ones we've presented! Duncan knows what he's talking about, and I know enough to know that. So, y'know, y'all come back now.

Real ones will know that it was the EyeToy that walked so that the Nex Playground could run. The kid-friendly camera-operated mini-game system has been likened to Xbox Kinect and the Wii in its explosive rise to the top of Amazon's sales charts last year. Like those systems, it holds motion at its core - its fun variety of pick-up-and-play games and easy setup, though, that's got EyeToy written all over it.

This is the kid-friendly system that managed to outsell the PS5, of all things, during the week ending November 22 last year (Matt Piscatella of Circana, via Bluesky). EyeToy Play launched at $49.99 in 2003 (about $90 today). The Nex Playground retails at $299 (though it's currently on sale for $239) and operates on a subscription model save for five onboard titles. That's a real jolt into the future, but with the brand's heavy marketing and massive success in the last year I've been taking this colorful cube out for a spin to see if it's worth the hype.

So your Nex Playground has just arrived; what's in the box? This is a simple affair, with a power cord, HDMI cable, slimline remote, and the cube itself. Setup is pretty self-explanatory, the system takes you through pairing the remote, connecting to WiFi, system updates, your account sign up, and properly placing the camera.

The Nex Playground cube itself wants to be centered below your TV, about 15 to 60 inches off the ground. That's pretty doable if you have your TV on a stand, but make note you might need to move some furniture around if you just use a wall mounted screen.

It'll also take you through how to set up your play space for maximum effect, things like not wearing clothes the same color as your background, clearing furniture, and lighting the room well.

The games

Onto the good bit then.

Straight out the box you'll have access to five games; Fruit Ninja, Whack-A-Mole, Goal Keeper, Party Fowl, and Starri. As a 30 year old Fruit Ninja and Starri have been my go-tos, the former bringing the mobile game of our youth back to the big-screen and the latter reawakening the Dance Dance Revolution of it all.

Some use the system's camera to build the action around players on-screen (like Party Fowl), while others simply track motion and translate it onto an onscreen avatar (Fruit Ninja and Starri).

Each of the included minigames brings its own unique experience, and they're all pretty well loved by us adults and the 6 and 4 year olds we were testing with.

There's a problem, though. You're not paying $300 for these five games, you're paying $300 for the hardware that will let you access the $49 (three-month) or $89 (12-month) Play Pass subscription.

This is where the system hides its real bangers, and it's not afraid to show a flash of Bluey or Peppa on its menu page to make sure your kids know the option is there. That immediately raises suspicion, and it's the one fact you'll need to be aware of if you're considering making a purchase.

The Nex Playground is only worth it if you grab the extra subscription, and that's not going to sit well with everyone.

I'll give it to them, the subscription games are impressive. We're far from my window washing childhood here, with platformers controlled through real-life jumps and strafes, a solid lineup of licenses from the aforementioned Australian dog to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Barbie, and real creativity in the different kinds of experiences offered.

It's an absolute hit with the kids, the Switch has never been so charged. With a roster of more than 50 titles, each one nicely rounded out (there are very few duds in here, it's not a shovelware system) and new ones being added every month the spread on offer is impressive. It's not just wild thrashing either, there's a decent roster of thoughtfully designed educational titles that sneak learning into genuinely fun challenges.

This is where the magic happens, but you'll be paying a rolling cost for that magic.

Is it worth it? That's down to you and your kids. From our experience, you do get what you pay for in the subscription. There's enough breadth in the catalog, and attention paid to the individual games to feel comfortable within the cost, especially if you're looking to keep younger kids active inside. Showing an interest in video games but can't quite get to grips with a controller? That's your sweet spot.

If you're aware of, and happy with, the rolling subscription, it's an excellent Switch or PlayStation replacement for the young'uns. Could Nex be a little more upfront about just how important that membership is for its $300 cube? Yes, and that's going to sting some uninformed buyers.

What happens if it's Game Over?

I've been in this industry long enough to know that what comes up (especially this quickly and especially in the kid-facing industry) often comes back down. Before joining the world of hardware journalism, I worked at a startup very much like this, a games-to-life toy with a fairly high MSRP and the promise of more content to come. It's tough to survive that initial wave of interest.

Having spent this much time with the Nex Playground, I sincerely hope they continue to build on their current momentum while maintaining their core offering. If the numbers do start to fall south, though, the subscription-based model could leave you with an expensive paperweight.

David Lee, Nex's co-founder has spoken about this eventuality a number of times, including in the brand's own blog post. He states, "if - knock on wood - Nex ever had to shut down, here's my promise: if it's up to me, we'll unlock every original game permanently, and respectfully ask our IP partners to do the same. You have my word."

Every member of the Asus ROG Strix Scope II X family is reduced, as well as some other models from the brand, and you can find those discounts below.

Explaining its lower price, the Scope II X is wired, and doesn't have wireless connectivity, and it's also a little more compact, but its cables and switches are more robust than on the original model. For most gamers, it's probably the best pick of the bunch.

Should you buy the Asus ROG Strix Scope II X?

The ROG Strix Scope II series, rounded out by the standard and 96 models, all have mechanical keys. This kind of button has a tactile 'click' which feels more responsive to use for gaming, and they're incredibly durable too (no more disintegrating WASD keys).

Gamers tend to opt for them for these reasons, and so if you're beginning to buy some serious gaming accessories, it's a great place to start. A mechanical keyboard like the Strix Scope II X will last for a long time, and you won't really see a need to upgrade unless it's worn out or damaged.

The one question is cabling: if you absolutely need a wireless model, it's not going to suit your needs. Otherwise, though, you're sorted.

Plenty of other keyboards are discounted over Prime Day right now, but the biggest reductions often come on higher-priced keyboards, like 8Khz ones or those with robust, WASD-hammering designs. For most gamers, the Strix Scope II X is more than enough.

Prime Day iPad deals usually offer the opportunity to secure an upgrade for a record-low price. That's not the case this year. While discounts are hitting the shelves, we're yet to see returns to some these tablets' historic rates, with the iPad A16 still a little way off its $279 target.

Which iPad should you buy this Prime Day?

Before we start, there are four lines of iPad you'll want to be aware of this Prime Day; the M5 Pro, M4 Air, A16 base, and A17 Mini. The first two are your productivity machines, tablets built with Apple's premium M silicon that can withstand more demanding workflows, multitasking, gaming scenarios, and heavier apps like Adobe.

The base model is the most popular iPad come Prime Day. It's the cheapest Apple tablet available, offering an entry level device for those who just want a bigger screen for streaming, emails, casual browsing, note-taking, and lighter games. This is where I often see discounts running off the shelves the fastest.

The iPad Mini is your compact companion, with a slightly more powerful chipset than the base model occupying a slot underneath Apple's more performative M chips. The smaller screen means it's less ideal for work and multi-tasking, but it still holds its own in the gaming arena.

We're also getting you prepped for all the latest Prime Day tablet deals if you're after something a little less Apple-flavored, or check out the best Prime Day Kindle deals for more focused attention. I'll also be bringing you all the latest Prime Day gaming laptop deals as soon as they land.

The Charging Case Pro launched in January earlier this year for $99.99 (Amazon), almost as if Belkin knew I'd be glued to my Switch 2 this year.

Not only am I as obsessed Pokemon Pokopia as I was at launch, but Star Fox is on its way on June 25, and Splatoon Raiders is launching on July 23. Yet, I'm not worried about the drain that any of these games will have on my handheld, as between sessions, I can easily slip it into the Belkin accessory where it will recharge and be primed and ready to go again. It's even included in this week's early Prime Day Nintendo Switch Prime Day deals, which makes it easier to recommend to anyone who hates the handheld's pathetic battery life as much as I do.

The second I saw the trailer for the upcoming Switch 2 Star Fox, I knew I'd become just as obsessed with clearing every possible path to Andross as I did in the 64 game growing up, and that's bound to take its toll on my battery life.

I'd worry, but the integrated power bank of the Charging Case Pro will take care of it. The charger lies in the interior of the case and includes a USB-C port that easily slots into the bottom of the handheld once I slide it inside. It's such a seamless experience that my Switch 2 is pretty much always in this case between gaming sessions, and I've not really had to worry about the device's measly battery life ever since.

Unlike the older Belkin Charging Case, which was a pain to recharge, this updated model also includes a cut-out window that allows for pass-through charging. Beforehand, you'd have to take out your Switch 2 and the power bank in order to ensure the case was juiced up and ready to go. Now? You just have to slot your AC adapter into the USB-C port, and wait until the small LCD screen reads "100%" so you know it's ready. This version may be more expensive, but it's a far more intuitive experience than before.

If that's too much then try the Belkin Charging Case...

The 10000mAh power bank can also be removed and act as a charging stand for your bedside table, should you want one. However, despite that extra feature and its current early Prime Day saving, I know not everyone is going to feel comfortable laying down even its current $84.99 discounted price for a case alone - especially as that's more expensive than either Star Fox or Splatoon Raiders and most upcoming Switch 2 games.

In that case, it's a good thing that the older Belkin Charging Case is also part of this week's early Prime Day gaming deals today. Instead of its $69.99 MSRP, it's down to $54.99 at Amazon, and it includes the same extras from the handy accessories pocket to the physical game storage. The main difference is that the power bank is attached via a velcro strap, and isn't a makeshift charging stand. However, that means you can remove it and use the powerbank to charge your phone, should you ever need to - something the fancier version isn't equipped for.

Much like the way ROB 64 drops a handy dandy bomb in your path in Star Fox 64, Belkin launched its Charging Case Pro at the perfect moment.

Not to mention, Amazon dropped these savings at a prime (get it?) opportunity for those of you who have yet to experience these, the best Nintendo Switch 2 cases I've tested to date.

That's why I've been trawling through these hallowed halls all week, bringing you the biggest discounts I've seen so far. Hungry for gaming laptops? MSI is the order of the day

Newegg primarily stocks gaming laptops from Lenovo, Gigabyte, and MSI but it's the latter that's seeing the widest range in this week's anti-Prime Day deals. These are frequently some of the most value-minded offers on the site whenever major sales hit, and - while gaming laptop prices are surging at the moment - we're still seeing some decent offers on the shelves.

The MSI Katana and Cyborg are your budget models, prioritizing component value over high-end displays and fancy chassis'. You'll find cheaper keyboards and build qualities overall here, though they're often the most affordable RTX 5060 or RTX 5070 configurations on the market.

At the other end of the spectrum we have the MSI Raider. This is the brand's chonkiest machine, unless you're going real mad with the Titan. It's your RTX 5090 powerhouse, just without the insane 4K price tag of older generations.

PSA: Watch out for marketplace prices

Newegg sells some of the gadgets on its shelves itself, but otherwise relies on a marketplace system. The majority of these sellers are perfectly fine to purchase from, but you'll need to be savvy here.

Inflated price tags, low user ratings, and dodgy configurations can sneak onto the shelves (and with the current state of component shortages the former is particularly rampant). Always check your reviews, price check your MSRPs, and remember - if a deal is too good to be true it usually is.

Keep an eye on our top CPU pick this Prime Day

The AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is the best CPU for gaming we've tested overall, so it's well worth keeping an eye on across Newegg's anti-Prime Day deals. The 8-core chip demonstrated reliable, stable performance across gaming tests in our review. Its price-to-performance ratio balances heavily in AMD's favor compared to Intel's competing chips, while the 3D V-Cache pushes for a larger L3 cache for quick-access data.

It's not the newest and it's not the highest specced in AMD's lineup, but it's certainly our go-to for value and performance all rolled into one.

Bought something off Newegg recently? Check the Price Protection

Newegg's FantasTech sale comes with an asterisk you won't find on Amazon's Prime Day deals. The retailer has been running its Price Protection scheme on certain discounts between June 15 and June 21. That means anyone who purchased an offer on Newegg in the lead up to this week's sale should be keeping an eye on its current prices. Should a covered item you purchased drop cheaper between today and July 8 you'll automatically get a refund of the difference.

Don't fall for 8GB RAM in a gaming laptop

Newegg's guilty of shipping gaming laptops with, let's say, less than favorable spec lists. With current RAM shortages raging war on our price tags, many machines are hitting the shelves with half the memory we recommend. There's no getting around it - 8GB simply won't cut it anymore. I always recommend keeping your expectations firmly set around the 16GB mark at the lowest.

RAM sacrifices keep this RTX 5060 gaming PC under $900

The current component shortage has hit the best gaming PCs hard, which is why you'll find far fewer sub-$1,000 gaming PCs on Newegg's shelves this week. They're still out there, but they often make one sacrifice to keep that price low - not in the amount of RAM (like the gaming laptops below), but in its generation.

DDR4 hasn't seen the same kind of increases as DDR5, and the slower sticks are holding out in budget-minded rigs for those willing to take a step down in speed under a harsher budget. If you're working with a four-figure ceiling machines like this RTX 5060 Stormcraft represent a solid stepping stone while we wait for memory prices to stabilize over the next few years.

However, if you've got the cash to hold out for a DDR5 discount it's worth taking the dive on a $1,200 - $1,500 rig.

Keep an eye on those game prices

I don't exactly run to Newegg for its digital game discounts, but if you're restocking that backlog it's worth keeping watch over that download section. There are some decent savings already live, mostly on older and smaller games. However, Newegg often bundles its digital titles in with select components or PC brands over the course of major sale events as well.

Should you buy RAM in Newegg's anti-Prime Day deals?

It's tough out there for anyone in need of a stick of RAM. 2026 has seen memory prices surge into the stratosphere - what used to cost a hundred bucks at the top end of the spectrum can now run you $400, $500, or even $600. In short - this isn't a simple upgrade anymore, I'd urge you to really consider just how badly you need those sticks before heading to checkout.

So when you really need to upgrade your RAM? If you need a fresh set of sticks to make the PC play the game. Say you've finished a build with everything other than memory, say your machine really won't do anything in its current state - that's when I'd recommend taking the memory plunge.

If your current system still runs, hold onto it.

A sub-$500 Mini PC to tackle light gaming

If the Steam Machine's price has you reconsidering your priorities, the Brenuc Mini PC could realign them. For $499 (was $599) at Newegg, you're getting a compact box with AMD's Ryzen 7 7840S (and Radon 780M graphics), 16GB DDR5 RAM and a 512GB SSD. Lighter titles at 1080p are easily achievable here, but this is also a solid workstation.

If you absolutely need 4TB, this isn't too terrible an offer

Ok, ok, the way SSD prices are going pretty much every anti-Prime Day deal on storage is pretty terrible by last year's standards. This is the situation we find ourselves in, though. If you absolutely need 4TB of M.2 storage, this is the discount I'd recommend.

Team Group's T-FORCE G50 drive is undercutting most 4TB drives with the help of an extra $50 promo code at Newegg. Use FTTF462 to drop that $449.99 sticker price down to $399.99. It's not going to be as fast as more expensive models, but it will bolster your storage and still offer up 5,000MB/s read / 4,500MB/s write for a little less than 2026 has traditionally offered.

An RTX 5070 gaming laptop under $1500

That's not something you come across every day, especially not these days. The Asus TUF A18, however, is renowned for stuffing excellent component value into a cheaper shell, and this AMD build proves it.

You're saving $400 on the original $1,899.99 MSRP here, scoring the Ryzen 7 260 / RTX 5070 model for $1,499.99 all in. That's with a 240Hz QHD+ display (and a big'un at that), 16GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD.

What does $100 get you in the gaming monitor world these days?

Well, if you go right to the top of that budget you'll find this Asus TUF 24-inch 1080p model, with a solid 240Hz refresh rate. If you're working with a lower-end RTX 40-Series of RTX 50-Series card - you're pretty sorted with that. It's not got the fastest response time in the world, at 0.3ms, but for $99.99 it's difficult to find reasons to complain here.

The sale is hitting its stride

Things are still ticking over nicely in the Newegg Fantastech sale, and I'm seeing offers up to 40% off right now. For example, this Acer Predator WQHD 2K 1440P 240Hz AMD FreeSync Premium monitor has tumbled down to $329.99 rather than the full $550. That's a reduction of $220 in all, which is pretty noteworthy.

Power up

Hunting down a better power supply for your PC? Newegg says "not a problem, chum." It's currently knocking $100 off the 1000W Corsair SF1000, so the unit is $169.99 rather than $269.99. Happy with a bit less umph? The 750w unit is even less, hitting $149.99 with a promotional $20 gift card.

Virtual reality

Looking to detach from wires and lose yourself in a whole new world of gaming? The Meta Quest 3S is currently sitting at $382.49 rather than $450, and while Amazon's alternative adds Batman Arkham Shadow into the mix, this is still a decent offer if you aren't fussed about the Dark Knight's latest caper.

Is it frustrating that the Quest 3S is so much more expensive than it used to be thanks to price hikes? Absolutely. But hey, at this stage we've just gotta take what we can get.

OK, so it's still pricey even with the discount... but at $560 off, this prebuilt PC is well worth keeping an eye on. Packing in a AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor, Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 16GB graphics card, DLSS 4 32GB DDR5 6400 RAM, and a 2TB M.2 SSD, it should keep you in the game for the long haul. On the cheap

Speaking of monitors: the cheapest offer I've seen so far is on this ASUS TUF model for just $99.99. That's $40 off MSRP for a 1080P 240hz Fast IPS panel with AMD FreeSync Premium, which isn't necessarily the highest quality... but will do very nicely as a second screen for productivity or as a first gaming monitor.

Time to cool off

I know it's not the sexiest bit of hardware out there, but what with temperatures being as high as they are this summer, it's worth making sure your rig's fans are up to snuff... and it just so happens that the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black CPU Air Cooler is currently just $25.99.

Getting comfortable

Newegg is matching Amazon's Meta Quest 3S deal

The Meta Quest 3S is kind of on sale for Prime Day. I say kind of, because this 128GB headset actually jumped up the price scale to $349.99 earlier this year, having spent its entire life at a $299 MSRP. That means today's discount only takes us a few bucks below that previous rate. It's a way away from the $249 record, but considering recent price increases it's worth investigating.

If you're after the best SSD for gaming (or for PS5, with a heatsink attached), you're going to be locked into the Samsung 990 Pro. MSI's OLED 360Hz monitor takes a $118 price cut

Want immersion and speed? Well that's just greedy.

Thankfully this 27-inch MSI panel can serve up both an OLED display and a 360Hz refresh rate (at 1440p). That's a solid set of specs that usually comes with a $650-ish price tag. A $118 discount drops us down to $529.99 today, though.

This is a premium panel at a great price, with a 0.03ms response time, easy pivot and tilt stand, and HDR built straight in.

The Fractal Refine is one of our favorite gaming chairs, pairing excellent armrests with a plush set of cushions and an impressive line between ergonomics and comfort. Newegg has just listed a $17 discount on its stock of $100 gift cards. You'll need to really know you have a shopping list worth it, but if you're already browsing Microsoft's own digital offers it's worth keeping some extra cash in your back pocket. This is a fully digital delivery so it's not refundable. Unfortunately it doesn't look like the promo code works with any cheaper gift card options either.

Newegg has one of the better RTX 5070 prices on the web this Prime Day

The 12GB MSI Shadow RTX 5070 (triple fan) has dropped down to $549 for Newegg account holders this Prime Day. That's a rare skip back down to MSRP (though these are hard to find at their launch prices these days) for the OC card.

A $67 discount appears immediately on site, but you'll need to enter the email address associated with your Newegg account to access the additional $30 saving for the full discount.

A fantastic PC builders bundle

Newegg has listed a bundle including the Gigabyte Aorus B850 ATX motherboard, AMD Ryzen 5 9600X processor, and Samsung 990 Pro 1TB SSD. All that together would normally run you $679.97, but nearly $250 off that final price takes us down to $429.99. Considering inflated SSD prices would have had you spending $320 on that SSD alone a few weeks ago, this is well worth a look.

That's a good sight better than its original $699.99 MSRP, especially if you're after a home server with support for 10GbE speeds. Its slightly awkward software is easy enough to navigate and, while it's slightly more expensive, you've got more versatility in here than you do the similarly priced Synology 4-bay DiskStation at $511.99.

Another sub-$1,000 gaming PC

This AOACE RTX 5060 rig has taken a $900 price drop to $999.99 in Newegg's FantasTech sale this week. That's a pretty steep fall, but it also comes with a $40 Newegg gift card to boot. This machine sensibly pairs a mid-range GPU with a mid-range GPU, but does take a hit in the RAM department.

You're getting 32GB... of DDR4. That's not particularly future-proofed but it's a solid starting point if you have a hard three-figure budget.

It's sitting at its usual full $449.99 price tag after all. That's about a $20 - $30 saving on your game of choice.

One of the coolest looking headsets at its best price of the year so far

Newegg isn't performing great in the headset department this Prime Day, but it is matching Amazon's $169.99 sales price on the Fractal Design Scape headset. This is a slick piece of kit, and it usually carries its own $199.99 price tag for the pleasure. It doesn't hide a shoddy audio quality underneath that smooth build, RGB flair, and included charging stand though. In fact, these cups sound fantastic across a range of platforms.

It has been cheaper in the past. Last year we saw this model drop down to $139.99 - but that extra discount hasn't been spotted since and certainly not in 2026. In the last few months, this one's been stuck at full price save for one flash sale to $170.

This Corsair keyboard is under $50, but I'd opt for this Redragon option instead

The Corsair K55 Pro is down to $49.99 in Newegg's anti-Prime Day deals, but this membrane deck doesn't quite stack up against a cheaper competitor. The Redragon K556 is also in the running this Prime Day, with a $15 discount on its $59.99 MSRP, taking us down to $44.99. Not only is it cheaper, but those mechanical switches are going to feel considerably better next to Corsair's rubber dome clackers.

I've been covering Prime Day for years now, and if I'm honest, it's been a continually growing trend each year that the best deals don't actually show up at the world's largest retailer; they come from competing brands. Prime Day is yet to begin this year, but other retailers like Newegg, Best Buy, and Walmart are already running competing sales.

Corsair isn't to be outdone either. It's currently running a promotion that lets you get any of its gaming chairs for 40% cheaper if you use a special promo code, which brings two of my go-to chair recommendations down to super-affordable prices.

The Corsair TC500 Luxe is one of my favorite gaming chairs I've ever tested. It manages to scratch an itch I have for gaming chairs that feel like you're sitting in a perfectly adjustable sofa, or even a La-Z-Boy. It has room for you to adjust the lumbar to suit your back, as well as a magnetic head pillow and recline, and adjustable armrests, but it's also got a wide seat base that lets you shift your position, cross a leg over, sit completely cross-legged, or just feel like you can really sink into it.

The armrests are my biggest pain point by far, and the caveat I'd issue anyone I'm recommending the chair to. I don't think they're a deal breaker because the rest of the chair is so good, but because they're set too wide apart, the ergonomics do suffer a bit. You can hear more in my full review, linked above.

Meanwhile, the Corsair TC100 Relaxed was the first gaming chair I ever reviewed, and it's kept its place on our best chair list ever since. It's a near-perfect starter chair, offering a nice blend of comfort with some beginner gaming chair perks. Yes, the lumbar cushion and head pillow are both strap-on ones, which isn't ideal. No, you won't get the last word in armrest adjustability, but you do get a chair that can stand the test of time, and will keep you comfortable for long hours at a desk.

There's a strong chance we could see both of these seats get Prime deals of their own once Amazon opens up its big summer sale selection, but if I were you, I wouldn't wait around. For these offers, you get them straight from Corsair without any middlemen that will likely only make things more expensive (unless you already have free shipping through Prime). If you're not a Prime member, you're unlikely to see better offers than what Corsair is offering on its products through its own website.

Last week, I confirmed the Prime Day pricing for the GameSir G7 Pro, as well as a few of the brand's other controllers during the sale. The most recent PC version of the G7 Pro was missing from that list of discounted products though, which is to be expected when it's only been available for a little while. Walmart has remedied that, however, jumping the gun on Prime Day and dropping the best PC controller rival down in price by almost $20.

Personally, I'm not convinced this discount will last very long, either due to the deal ending or stock levelling out. Since I can't see the offer at any other retailer, I don't think it's an official one that's come down from on high either. As in, it doesn't seem like a GameSir-approved discount that'll apply to all the variants of the G7 Pro 8K at various stores, so let's take a closer look.

Funnily enough, Amazon currently has no answer to the discount, despite Prime Day being the headline sale to look out for this week. In fact, the GameSir G7 Pro prices I reported on last week still haven't arrived at the retailer and likely won't until Prime Day officially kicks off on June 23rd. One upside of this, however, is that you don't need to take out a Prime membership or a free trial to make the most of it.

An equivalent deal doesn't exist at Best Buy either, which makes me think this could be a shorter-lived opportunity at Walmart. It also only applies to the Nioh 3 colorway, which may point to Walmart's stock of this particular model outweighing the other versions.

While you save $18 on the full price of the GameSir G7 Pro 8K, you do spend $8 more than you would on the regular G7 Pro if you were to wait for Prime Day gaming deals to officially start. For that extra money, you do unlock a much, much higher polling rate, which will absolutely be of interest for competitive players who want to rule out any chance of latency impacting their gameplay. You also get some swappable thumbstick tops that the regular version doesn't have, but you'll lose out on Xbox Series X/S compatibility.

Having gone hands-on with the 8K polling TMR controller, I can say it's definitely more responsive, but the increased polling rate doesn't present itself in the way some of you might expect. It essentially cranks the sensitivity of the thumbsticks up to 11, making them a tad unruly at first. Combined with custom deadzones and TMR technology, every tiny input on the thumbsticks will register, and register fast, so using it definitely takes some getting used to.

Personally, I don't think this model is going to be for everyone, partly because of that learning curve, but with even more ways to customize it, I'd argue PC players should really think about investing the extra $8 for it over the original. The only limiting factor might be the colorways, since the regular white/grey and black/red options aren't available for the 8K model. Besides the Nioh 3 version, you can grab a turquoise Aimlabs edition (the one in the images that I reviewed) or a Champion black and gold colorway that's tied to an Esports athlete.

Prime Day gaming laptop deals are here, and they have a tough task this year. 2026 has seen component prices (and therefore laptop prices) surge incredibly quickly, and the last few weeks have incurred a serious lack of credible discounts. That's all changed today, with early discounts hitting a number of our favorite models - just don't expect Amazon to have anything to do with it.

Both Newegg and Best Buy are running their own competing Prime Day gaming laptop deals this week, and they're offering far better discounts overall. In fact, out of some of my top picks, Amazon features only rarely.

While prices on some of the best gaming laptops aren't going to rival those of previous years, there are still RTX 5060s for the low $1,000s and RTX 5070s at the $1500 mark - and that's not something I've been able to celebrate for a few weeks now.

Why are gaming laptop prices higher in 2026?

The current component crisis and RAM shortages are to blame for increased gaming laptop prices. As AI manufacturers hoover up all the memory, consume-facing brands are being squeezed. With higher demand comes higher prices, and it's the final product that sees the biggest sacrifice.

I'm seeing a number of gaming laptop deals working to circumvent these issues; dropping their memory sizes from 32GB to 16GB, reverting back to cheaper graphics cards, or dropping display specs. However, most of the rigs that have already left the factories in 2026 are seeing a serious upcharge.

Thankfully, there are still a few 2025 machines still kicking around - and they haven't felt the same purse pinch. While I've noticed slightly higher rates even on these older rigs, their numbers are much easier to stomach. Indeed, most of my top picks up above are a year old now.

Prime Day might be Amazon's showcase, but Best Buy isn't letting Bezos take all the headlines this week.
