At San Diego Comic-Con, Apple TV has unveiled the first trailer for its adaptation of William Gibson's sci-fi novel Neuromancer, which stars Callum Turner and Briana Middleton.

In the trailer, which you can watch above, Turner plays a hacker named Case. The show looks like a trippy, tense, tech-focused ride, and the trailer is very slick and stylish. While it doesn't give much away, Apple promises the show "follows a damaged, top-rung super-hacker named Case (Turner) who is thrust into a web of digital espionage and high-stakes crime with his partner Molly (Middleton), a razor-girl assassin, as they pull off a heist on a corporate dynasty with untold secrets."

Gibson is a founder of the cyberpunk genre: Neuromancer was released in 1984, over 10 years before The Matrix arrived in 1999.

Along with Turner, the rest of the Neuromancer cast includes Mark Strong, Peter Sarsgaard, Joseph Lee, Clémence Poésy, Dane DeHaan, Max Irons, Emma Laird, Junia Rees, Jordan Kouamé, Marc Menchaca, André De Shields, and Isabella Pappas. Graham Roland and JD Dillard created the show, and Gibson is on board as an executive producer.

"Now, we've been building something special with Neuromancer, a world our dear William Gibson imagined in 1984," Turner said in a fittingly virtual appearance at SDCC. "He didn't just give us cyberspace, he helped define the entire cyberpunk genre. This is just your first access point. Stay sharp and enjoy the teaser, because you guys, you guys are the very first to see it."

We're sure you were as heartbroken as we were during Fast X’s finale when John Cena's Jakob Toretto sacrificed himself to help his brother Dom, played by Vin Diesel in Fast X (yep, that sentence is still absolutely bonkers, isn't it?).

Then worry not, because it looks like the wrestler-turned-movie star has another high-powered vehicle to start up with in Apple's new movie Matchbox: The Movie, which just released a brand new trailer. In fact, there's not just one vehicle but several, and they're all getting smashed together in ridiculously explosive fashion.

The new film, directed by Extraction helmer Sam Hargrave, follows Cena as CIA agent Sean, who reunites with his old childhood friends from his Matchbox car days (like you didn't have those, either). Unfortunately, his efforts to keep his job under wraps hit a snag when his old pals (comprised of Jessica Biel, Arturo Castro, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris) wake up and find themselves forced to tag along with our hero, who has been framed for a crime he didn’t commit.

From there, a globe-trotting adventure unfolds that really does feel like it's carefully parked between Fast and the Furious and The Hangover.

Joining the action are Danai Gurira, Golshifteh Farahani, Corey Stoll and Bill Camp, who will all undoubtedly be screeching, swerving and smashing into one another before miraculously walking away unscathed.

As we head closer to the end of July, plenty more movies and shows are being added to your favorite streaming services. However, it can be a bit of an intimidating task working out what's new and what's worth watching. That's where we come in. Starting off strong, two recent movie releases are heading to streaming, just a few months after they arrived in theaters. Masters of the Universe, the new He-Man movie, is heading to Prime Video. Meanwhile, Mortal Kombat 2 is arriving on HBO Max, lining you up for a fantasy franchise heavy weekend of viewing. Elsewhere, Apple TV have released The Dink, a new sports comedy.

If you're looking for a series to binge instead then Paramount Plus has released a new season of crime thriller The Crow Girl that has been landing rave reviews. Netflix also has a second season of its beloved Western Ransom Canyon to enjoy. Finally, MCU star Tom Hiddleston is also fronting a new show for Disney Plus all about the history of Pompeii.

The Dink

A tennis comedy from the creators of Dodgeball? Sign us up. Apple TV has a new movie starring New Girl star Jake Johnson as a washed-up tennis player. Forced to try and save his dad's local club, he ends up having to learn the sport of pickleball, much to his consternation.

The movie also stars Ben Stiller (who is on board as a producer), Mary Steenburgen, Ed Harris, and Chloe Fineman. The comedy chops don't stop there as the movie boasts Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar director Josh Greenbaum behind the camera too. Full of heart and laughs, The Dink is perfect escapism and is available to stream now.

Mortal Kombat 2

It doesn't feel like long ago that Mortal Kombat 2 was out in theaters but it's already heading to HBO Max. The sequel to the much-maligned first Mortal Kombat movie won over critics with its fresh take on the story. This time around, new characters joined (including Karl Urban's Johnny Cage and Adeline Rudolph as Kitana) as we finally headed to the arena for some real fights.

Our Mortal Kombat 2 review gave it 3 stars, praising its bloodthirsty action. As our reviewer writes, "Karl Urban adds irreverent energy as a post-Deadpool Johnny Cage, while the all-important fights mostly deliver the goods." You can stream it on HBO Max now.

Masters of the Universe

Another new release is hitting streaming platforms this week too as Masters of the Universe arrives on Prime Video. Starring Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam, the movie follows him as he returns to his home planet to take on his destiny as He-Man. However, he'll first have to fight the evil forces of Skeletor, played by Jared Leto.

Masters of the Universe is a ton of fun if you're looking for laughs and escapism this weekend. Galitzine really gives his all as the beloved hero and Leto brings an unexpected energy to legendary villain Skeletor. If that wasn't enough to convince you, our Masters of the Universe review praised how it "never takes itself seriously" and feels true to its source material. You can stream it now on Prime Video.

Ransom Canyon season 2

Netflix's Western romance Ransom Canyon is back with new episodes this weekend. Following Staten (played by Josh Duhamel) and Quinn (Minka Kelly), the drama picks up with the pair chasing new ventures to try and bring some life back to Ransom Canyon's dwindling ranches.

The second outing has slightly fewer episodes but all eight are available to stream now. The first season had a mixed response from critics who compared it to the juggernaut Western Yellowstone, but it has developed a cult following of fans who adore the romance and the drama it brings to the screen. If you're looking for a perfect excuse to get lost in a diverting story, then look no further.

Pompeii: Out of Time

Where to watch: Disney Plus

It's always a treat to see Tom Hiddleston back on our screens. Fresh of the Loki star having a brief cameo in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer, he's fronting a new Disney Plus history series. Called Pompeii: Out of Time, the three part show sees Hiddleston team up with scholars to dissect what really happened during the eruption of Vesuvius.

Reviews have been very positive, praising the documentary filmmaking as thrilling and witty. The Guardian even called it "a low-key tearjerker" as it takes viewers through the heroism of ordinary people on that fateful day. You can stream all episodes now.

The Crow Girl season 2

Based on the book series by Erik Axl Sund, the Paramount Plus drama The Crow Girl is back for a second season. Starring Eve Myles and Katherine Kelly as DCI Jeanette Kilburn and Dr Sophia Craven, the second outing follows the pair as they're drawn into another investigation.

Reviews have been praising this dark serial killer drama, which is perfect for fans of noir thrillers. Myles and Kelly are also fantastic as the central duo who's relationship evolves in unexpected ways. The entire season is available to stream now, perfect for a weekend binge.

The first trailer for Mayday is here, and it looks like a lot of fun. The new action-comedy is heading to Apple TV later this year and stars Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh.

The trailer opens with Reynolds' fighter pilot, Troy Kelly, being held in enemy territory after an operation goes wrong during the height of the Cold War. The person holding him hostage is Branagh's Nikolai Ustinov, who brightly informs him that he performed emergency surgery on him with limited anaesthesia.

Luckily for Kelly, ex-KGB agent Ustinov is actually something of an Americanophile, and is even sure he would love McDonald's if he tried it. The pair form something of an unlikely partnership in the action comedy as Ustinov helps Kelly escape from behind enemy lines as the Red Army hunts him down.

The first trailer looks like a lot of fun, set to a punchy soundtrack with lots of laughs. Branagh and Reynolds seem to have easy chemistry too, which should be a lot of fun to watch when the final movie arrives on Apple TV on September 4. Marcin Dorocinski, Maria Bakalova, and David Morse all also star.

Some pretty impressive names are behind the scenes, too, with the Deadpool and Wolverine producers on board and the Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Amongst Thieves directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein directing and producing.

Silo season 3

Apple's post-apocalyptic mystery show is back for its third, and penultimate, season. After venturing outside the silo in season 2 and discovering that they were not alone, Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) now faces a different struggle – ol' memory loss.

OK, so a bit of a cliched start for Silo season 3, but after two seasons of questions, the show is finally set to provide answers, with a dual timeline flashing back to the creation of the silos themselves. The best news is that a fourth and final season has already been shot, so there's no risk of being left hanging.

Enola Holmes 3

Enola Holmes is back! Sherlock's younger sister, played by Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown, is about to wed Lord Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge) in Malta when her crime-solving big brother – once again played by Henry Cavill – disappears. So it's up to Enola to solve the case of the missing Holmes, and expose the shadowy conspirators pulling the strings.

Enola Holmes has proven one of Netflix's more successful ongoing film franchises. This latest entry is once again written by prolific screenwriter Jack Thorne, who has enlisted his acclaimed Adolescence collaborator Phlip Barantini as director, so impressive credentials behind the camera. Ready or Not 2: Here I Come

The sequel to 2019 horror-comedy Ready or Not is another fun, frantic spin on the most dangerous game, as returning survivor Grace (Samara Weaving) again finds herself being hunted for ritualistic sport by the council of elite families. The twist this time: Grace's estranged sister, Faith (Kathryn Newton) is also part of the chase.

Arriving seven years after the first entry (directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett helmed Screams 5 and 6, and vampire flick Abigail in the intervening years), Ready or Not 2 has been a long time coming, but is another blood-soaked blast. Lee Cronin's The Mummy

Warner Bros' full-on Mummy reboot faced a mixed response when it released earlier this year, with critics knocking the fact that it's more of an exorcist movie than a Mummy movie, and pointing to its somewhat indulgent 135-minute runtime (and that meaningless title) as signs that it was a movie in need of a few more studio notes. But everyone can agree, it's pretty gnarly.

The story of a modern-day family whose daughter is kidnapped, only to mysteriously return 8 years later, having been found in a sarcophagus, wrapped in bandages (never a good sign), it's a movie that brings the Mummy myth into the home. Midsommar's Jack Reynor and Moon Knight's May Calamawy star.

Human Vapor

This South Korean sci-fi thriller show is actually a reimagining of a 1960 Toho movie, hence the charmingly retro premise: a man gains the ability to transform into a gaseous state and uses his powers for bank robberies. Only here, of course, instead of robbing banks, murder is involved.

We're not going to lie: there was clearly a limited VFX budget, so some of the gas effects are a little ropey, but Human Vapor has been admirably updated for the prestige TV era; this gripping 8-episode limited series will keep you hooked till the very end.

We won't spoil it here, but let's just say there's more to Sugar than a movie-loving private eye solving missing-person mysteries around Tinseltown.

Sugar's second season features a whole new case involving the missing brother of a boxer on the verge of the big leagues, and sees Marvel/The Last of Us star Tony Dalton join the cast as a corrupt sheriff. Tune in before someone spoils the surprise…

The Agency season 2

A remake of the critically acclaimed French spy thriller The Bureau, The Agency stars Michael Fassbender as a CIA operative navigating the twisty, subterfuge-filled world of international espionage, and offers a more grounded take on the spy genre than the likes of Jack Ryan.

Working from rock-solid source material, the story alone makes this a must-watch. But it's got a heck of a cast as well; alongside Fassbender, Richard Gere, Jeffrey Wright, Jodie Turner-Smith and John Magaro feature, many stepping into the spotlight this season after operating on the sidelines in season 1.

I Will Find You

Writer-producer Harlan Coben has become an industry unto himself. I Will Find You is the latest of his many beach reads to be adapted for binge viewing, and stars Avatar's Sam Worthington as a father jailed for the murder of his son, only to discover in prison that his missing child could still be alive.

Intriguing premise, right? I Will Find You also features a typically stacked cast for a Coben adaptation: Severance's Britt Lower, Heroes' Milo Ventimiglia and Gotham's Erin Richards also star. Just don't start watching too late at night, because the moreish episodes will keep you up till sunrise.

The Season

If you've ever found yourself wondering why a sequel to Crazy Rich Asians is still stuck in development hell, The Season should tide you over till China Rich Girlfriend finally goes into production. Set in the luxury world of Hong Kong's elite boating scene (we're all familiar, I'm sure), it's the kind of show where scandal, betrayal and, eventually, murder are par for the course.

Shadow and Bone's Jessie Mei Lee leads the cast as something of an interloper who throws a cat among the pigeons or, rather, a shark among the superyachts. Reviewers have called it "Succession meets Crazy Rich Asians," while the Hong Kong locations are as glamorous as they come. Perfect weekend binge-viewing that may give you a few summer holiday ideas.

Your Fault: London

If you haven't gotten on board with this prolific series of romantic dramas yet, now is the perfect time. A follow-up to My Fault: London (so be sure to watch that first), it stars Asha Banks and Matthew Broome as madly in love twentysomethings whose commitment to one another is tested by conflicting desires.

An English-language adaptation of the wildly popular Spanish-language trilogy Culpables, the Fault movies may not be high art, but they are very watchable. And the best news is the third film in the trilogy – Our Fault: London – was shot back-to-back with the second movie, meaning a sequel is already in the can.

Stephen King is no stranger to sharing his opinions on new movies and TV shows online, and his latest recommendation is a brand new Apple TV show, but it's not Widow's Bay.

"Widow's Bay is good. Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed is even better," said King on Twitter. "It's like Hitchcock came back to do it one more time. And Tatiana Maslany is so good. The play of emotions on her face is pretty incredible. She goes from comic to terror in an instant." Comparing the show to the works of Hitchcock, the king of suspense, is big praise indeed.

Starring Orphan Black's Maslany, Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed follows a newly divorced soccer mom named Paula who is thrown into a spiral of blackmail and murder when she witnesses a crime. Whilst juggling an ongoing custody battle, Paula begins her own investigation that leads her to an even greater conspiracy. The show hit Apple TV on May 20 and will conclude on July 15, 2026.

Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed has proven to be a hit with critics, standing at an impressive 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it hasn't blown up as much as Apple TV's other dark comedy, Widow's Bay. The new show, which leans a little more into the horror genre, follows a mayor who desperately tries to drive tourists to his small, dated island, but in doing so, triggers a sinister curse. Widow's Bay sits at a slightly higher 97% RT score.

Earlier this month, horror director Guillermo del Toro called the surprise hit "one of the best streaming series in a long time." And just this week, game developer and fellow Twitter film reviewer Hideo Kojima shared his thoughts on Widow's Bay. "It’s so incredibly good that I couldn’t stop," said Kojima. Funnily enough, Kojima added, "Fans of Stephen King and horror in general will love it." Well, it seems as though King prefers Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed.

Apple TV is keeping fans of tension and mystery fed right now. Widow's Bay came to an end on June 17, but Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed is still airing, as well as the new Cape Fear TV adaptation, starring Amy Adams, Patrick Wilson, and Javier Bardem as the terrifying Max Cady. Crime drama Unconditional also concludes on June 19.

The king of online film reviews, Hideo Kojima, has spoken, and this time the game developer is showing love to surprise Apple TV smash hit Widow's Bay.

Kojima took to Twitter to share his take. "It’s so incredibly good that I couldn’t stop, so I binged through Episode 9 in one go. It’s packed with horror elements, one after another. Fans of Stephen King and horror in general will love it. The pacing is excellent, and the balance between horror and humor is just right," said Kojima. "It’s been a long time since a series pulled me in this completely."

As well as recommending the show to Stephen King fans, Kojima went on to compare the new horror show to the likes of Steven Spielberg's Jaws and David Lynch's Twin Peaks franchise. Check out the full post below.

Kojima said he watched the show based on Frankenstein director Guillermo del Toro's recommendation, who tweeted out his own review of the series on June 1. "Widow's Bay may very well be the best streaming series in a long time… and hands down one of the most mesmerizing acts of narrative prestidigitation in Horror," said Del Toro. Well, that certainly is big praise from the Pan's Labyrinth helmer.

Set in a fictional New England island called Widow's Bay, the series follows a new mayor who attempts to attract tourists and breathe new life into the outdated town. However, the locals claim the island is cursed, which soon becomes apparent when a string of unexplainable, paranormal events occur. The series stars Matthew Rhys, Kate O'Flynn, Kevin Carroll, Dale Dickey, Kingston Rumi Southwick, and Stephen Root.

The show landed on Apple TV on April 29, but has slowly grown in popularity. Widow's Bay sits at an impressive 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and has already been renewed for season 2.

My Adventures with Superman season 3

Clark Kent is back in My Adventures with Superman season 3, which arrives on HBO this week. The third season returns to Metropolis as our titular hero faces new enemies, including a brutal Cyborg Superman who claims to be better than the Man of Steel in every possible way. In order to defeat this threat, Supes teams up with Supergirl, Jimmy Olsen, and Lois Lane to bring order back to the city.

Set across 10 episodes, the new outing is just as action-packed and full of heart as previous seasons as it manages to explore a new side to this much-adapted hero. The Boys star Jack Quaid returns as Superman alongside newcomers Max Mittelman as Cyborg Supes and Darren Criss as Superboy. The show is airing weekly on HBO Max following its release on Toonami, and is well worth a watch.

Widow's Bay episode 9

Our time in the, ahem, charming town of Widow's Bay is almost at an end as the show's penultimate episode arrives this week. The Matthew Rhys-led series has been one of the big surprises of 2026 so far, working as both a hilarious horror satire as well as gripping and tense thriller. There are so many questions remaining in the penultimate episode as we wait for next week's finale so there's never been a better time to make sure you're up to date before the final episode airs.

And if you needed any more convincing to book a ferry trip over, then the reviews speak for themselves. Currently sitting at 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, the Guardian gave the show five out of five stars, saying it's "Mare of Easttown meets Schitt's Creek, but with something else that makes it singular". What more could you want? Widow's Bay episode 9 is streaming now on Apple TV Plus.

Every Year After

Prime Video is well known as the place to be for romantic dramas. Based on the novel 'Every Summer After' by Carley Fortune, the eight-part drama follows Percy Fraser and Sam Florek, two best friends who find themselves constantly drawn back to each other. Think One Day meets Virgin River, the series is all about whether the one that got away is truly gone forever. All episodes are available to stream now.

I Am Frankelda

Get lost in a new dark fantasy world in I Am Frankelda, an absorbing stop-motion story set between the real world and the world of terrors. It follows a young aspiring writer called Francisca Imelda in 19th century Mexico who is approached by a prince to help write more nightmares. As he explains to her, if humans are no longer scared, then his kingdom of terrors will cease to exist.

The Mexican movie was first released in 2025 but will be landing globally on Netflix this weekend. The filmmakers were inspired by Guillermo del Toro and his visual language of fantastical creatures and dark fantasy can be felt throughout. If you love the art that goes into this kind of filmmaking as well as getting lost in a new world, this is definitely one to add to your weekend watchlist. Did we mention it was a musical too?

Muppets Most Wanted Extended Edition

While it's not something we were necessarily expecting, it's always a treat to have more Muppets to enjoy. This weekend Disney Plus is releasing a special longer edition of the 2014 movie Muppets Most Wanted. Previously only available on the Blu-Ray, this version features 12 minutes of extra footage. Fans who have seen it have called it the definitive version of the beloved movie as it subtly reshapes the story in a very satisfying way.

The additions include added character beats and more jokes, as well as expanded musical numbers. Viewers can enjoy extra verses and gags in this new version, which seems like a perfect watch for muppets fans and those wanting revisit the fun movie more than a decade on from its first release. Muppets Most Wanted Extended Edition arrives on June 14.

They Will Kill You

An action horror described by some as John Wick meets Tarantino is arriving on HBO Max this weekend. They Will Kill You stars Joker's Zazie Beetz, Severance's Patricia Arquette, and Harry Potter's Tom Felton in a thriller full of surprises. The story follows an ex-convict who answers a cryptic ad to become a housekeeper at a mysterious New York City highrise. However, when she's there, she soon realizes that this is not an ordinary home.

Several people have vanished from the building over the decades and it seems like a satanic cult may be the reason why. It's only been a few months since it came out in theaters, but you can already enjoy the gory slasher from the comfort of your sofa as it arrives on HBO Max.

With a new month comes a whole heap of new releases on streaming services to enjoy – and June is no exception. This first week brings with it several returning series as well as the release of a new Netflix original movie. Probably the most exciting pick of this weekend's options is Cape Fear, which adapts John D. MacDonald's The Executioners once again for the screen, this time starring Javier Bardem and Amy Adams.

That's by no means all there is to watch on the TV front either. On Prime Video, animated show The Legend of Vox Machina returns for its fourth season, which is now officially the penultimate season of the Critical Role adaptation. Then on AMC Plus, Interview With a Vampire returns with a new season titled The Vampire Lestat, which sees the titular vampire become a rockstar.

Films are equally as exciting this week as two major releases make their way onto streaming – and they couldn't be more different. Pixar movie Hoppers is now streaming on Disney Plus if you're after a family-friendly watch that's great fun, meanwhile Alexander Skarsgård's R-rated motorcycle romance is available on HBO Max. Finally, the queen of romantic comedies Jennifer Lopez is back for a new Netflix film written and starring Ted Lasso's Brett Goldstein.

Cape Fear

"Let me ask you a question, what is your worst fear?" Javier Bardem's chilling Max Cady asks in the new Apple TV Plus series Cape Fear. Based on John D. MacDonald's The Executioners, it follows Tom and Anna Bowden (played by Patrick Wilson and Amy Adams here) as they deal with Cady returning to their lives when he's released from prison. Vicious and unpredictable, he is after revenge from the pair who represented him 17 years ago.

If it sounds familiar, there's a reason. This book has actually been adapted twice before, by J. Lee Thompson in 1962 and by none other than Martin Scorsese in 1991. Scorsese is a producer on this version too alongside Steven Spielberg. And with such impressive talent on and behind the camera, it's no surprise that the show has been landing rave reviews already, with lots of praise for the performances from Bardem and Adams. The first two episodes are available to stream now with the rest of the limited series airing weekly.

The Legend of Vox Machina season 4

Based on Dungeons & Dragons web series Critical Role, The Legend of Vox Machina has won a lot of fans over its first three seasons for its fun, irreverent take on this beloved world. Now the show is back with a fourth outing, balancing comedy and adventure across 12 new episodes. This time, we pick up with Vox Machina, a year after they separated following the Chroma Conclave. Adventure, and a new evil rising, bring them back together once again to face an epic enemy.

Most of the voice cast are back for the penultimate season of the animated show, including the return of fan-favorite character Taryon Darrington (voiced by Wayne Brady). There's also a surprise introduction of Lord of the Rings star Andy Serkis too, who is voicing a mystery role in the new season, which you won't want to miss. The first three episodes are available now on Prime Video with new triple episode drops continuing until June 24.

The Vampire Lestat

Now before you start wondering if there's another new spin-off series arriving in the Anne Rice AMC universe, The Vampire Lestat is actually a continuation of the show that kicked this whole franchise off. This is Interview With the Vampire season 3, with a slight twist. Instead of continuing to tell this story from the point of view of Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson), the new episodes shift the perspective to Sam Reid's Lestat de Lioncourt after he wakes up in the modern world and becomes a rock star.

The change-up in format has definitely worked too as the series has debuted to a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, with a lot of thanks due to Reid's magnetic performance as Lestat. This time around he uncovers new sides to his deeply flawed and interesting character and after all of the twists and turns in season 2, his relationship with Louis is still a key part of this story too and will unfurl in interesting ways across these seven episodes. The first episode arrives on June 7, with subsequent outings airing each Sunday on AMC Plus.

Office Romance

Rom-com queen Jennifer Lopez is back for a new Netflix movie written and starring Ted Lasso's Brett Goldstein. Office Romance sees Lopez play Jackie, the CEO of a fictional company called Air Cruz. Part of her iron fist rule of the company is an extremely rigid anti-fraternization policy for all her employees, which gets tested when lawyer Daniel (Goldstein) starts working for her and sparks fly.

It's pretty much exactly what you're asking for if you're in the mood for an easy, light-hearted watch. Goldstein's dialogue, co-scribed by Joe Kelly, adds an extra witty kick to this world too, making it an enjoyable watch. It's Lopez who is the real star here though, bringing back her goofball charm as a leading lady, well honed from movies like The Wedding Planner and Maid in Manhattan. Hoppers

Pixar's latest Hoppers is now available to watch on Disney Plus. The charming new animated movie imagines what might happen if scientists had discovered a way to transform human consciousness into robotic animals. Using the technology, our protagonist Mabel (voiced brilliantly by Piper Curda) "hops" into a robotic beaver to experience life as the animals live it. It's a great premise and one that Jesse Andrews' script handles deftly with humor, heart, and a lot of adventure.

The voice cast is pretty impressive too with Jon Hamm, Dave Franco, and Meryl Streep all starring in the movie. Widely called a return to form for Pixar, Hoppers received great reviews during its cinematic run so it's a bit of a no brainer to add it to your weekend streaming list too. The movie is available to watch right now as well, so what are you waiting for?

Pillion

If you're looking for a darker romance that Netflix's new rom-com, then Pillion is another streaming option for you this weekend. The Alexander Skarsgård and Harry Melling-led film that won over critics at film festivals is now finally heading to HBO Max. It stars Melling as a timid gay man named Colin who's world is broadened by Skarsgård's Ray, an enigmatic biker. The pair start a BDSM relationship, which causes Colin to change in unexpected ways.

Written and directed by Harry Lighton, the film is based on the 2020 novel Box Hill by Adam Mars-Jones. Brilliant writing and absorbing performances really elevate this one, which you can stream on HBO Max now.

Horror legend Guillermo del Toro says Widow's Bay is one of the best things to hit streaming in a long time, point blank period.

"If I may- in my estimation- #WidowsBay may very well be the best streaming series in a long time… and hands down one of the most mesmerizing acts of narrative prestidigitation in Horror," Del Toro tweeted.

The series follows Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys), the skeptical mayor of a fictional, titular New England island town, who doesn't believe in ghosts or curses or the paranormal... until he starts experiencing an array of supernatural occurrences that suggest his quaint little town is most definitely cursed. The core cast includes Kate O'Flynn, Dale Dickey, Stephen Root, and Kevin Carroll. The very long list of guest stars features everyone from Toby Huss to Chris Fleming and Betty Gilpin.

Widow's Bay was created by Parks and Recs writer Katie Dippold, who is perhaps best known by the chronically online as the woman who dressed up as the Babadook for a friend's Halloween get-together... that no one else was dressed up at.

The 10-part series currently sits at a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, and I have a feeling Apple TV Plus will definitely be renewing it for a second season. The first season is still airing through June, so we have a bit of time yet.

We've reached the end of May and while several of the month's major releases have already come out, there's still a few more exciting launches happening this week. Probably the most exciting pick is Nicolas Cage's first TV role, as he stars in new Prime Video Spider-Man series, Spider-Noir.

That's not the only exciting release in our list of the best new shows and movies to stream this week, either. There's also a new spin-off to Apple TV Plus' beloved series For All Mankind, which turns the focus to the Soviet Union. Netflix's runaway hit comedy The Four Seasons is also back for a hilarious second outing as well.

On the movie side, there's an under-the-radar horror movie landing on Hulu and Disney Plus, as well as an Oscar-winning drama. Then, just in case you missed it in theaters, Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride! is also now out on streaming, starring newly minted Oscar winner Jessie Buckley.

Spider-Noir

Nicolas Cage swings onto the small screen in new Spider-Man show, Spider-Noir. He stars as an aging private investigator and former superhero called Ben Reilly. When a new case lands on his desk, he must grapple with his past and decide whether he wants to become The Spider once again. It's set in an alternate universe to the rest of Sony's Spider-Man movies, but Cage did first play the role in the Spider-Verse films. However, this new show is based more on the comics, adapted by Oren Uziel to introduce a new version of this character in a slick, genre-driven drama.

One of the most fun parts about this release is that you can watch it in both black and white or color (read how to do that here). It's also landed some pretty positive reviews, with praise mostly falling at Cage's feet for his authentic performance. Our own Spider-Noir review gave it 3.5 stars with our reviewer calling it "a delightfully camp, low-stakes romp through 1930s New York City that proves Nicolas Cage is still cooler than all of us." The Four Seasons season 2

The Four Seasons was a breakout hit for Netflix when its first season arrived back in May 2025. It's all-star cast got viewers hooked with Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Colman Domingo, and Will Forte all appearing in lead roles. However, it was the deft balance of all-out laughs and more tender emotion that was what made the show so popular with viewers and critics alike.

Now the show is returning with a second season, which follows in the wake of season 1's shock death. This time around, the group of friends navigate three new vacations with more baggage and a baby in tow. All eight episodes are available to stream now.

Star City

For All Mankind is undoubtedly one of Apple TV's best shows currently airing, telling an alternate history where the USSR was the first nation to reach the moon. In the original show, this kicked off a more intense space race that has been told from the American perspective so far. Well, now, new spin-off Star City is changing the narrative, telling the story from the perspective of the Soviet space agency.

It's an intriguing premise that will likely appeal to fans of the original show as well as newcomers to this sci-fi universe. What's more, it's got a seriously stacked cast of dramatic talent. Rhys Ifans plays the chief designer of the program, while Anna Maxwell Martin is the head of the KGB surveillance department at Star City. Early reviews have been very positive for the new show, which has opened to a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. The first two episodes arrive on May 29, airing weekly thereafter.

The Bride!

Based on Mary Shelley's 1818 novel Frankenstein and the 1935 movie Bride of Frankenstein, The Bride! tells a new story set in a very familiar world. After impressing with her directorial debut, The Lost Daughter, The Dark Knight star Maggie Gyllenhaal is in both the writing and directing chair for this one. It stars Christian Bale as 'Frank', the monster created by Dr. Frankenstein, opposite Jessie Buckley as the titular Bride, a woman who is brought back from the dead to be his companion.

Buckley's performance as a radical rebel drives much of the movie, which split critics between fervent admirers and confused observers. Called a sci-fi fantasy version of Sid and Nancy and Natural Born Killers, it seems destined to become a cult classic. It's well worth your streaming time this weekend to make up your own mind on the 2026 release. The movie is available to watch now on HBO Max in the UK and the US.

Descendent

This pacy horror likely flew under your radar when it was first released in 2025. Produced by Marvel filmmaking duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (who worked on Moon Knight and Daredevil: Born Again), this sci-fi thriller tells the story of a school security guard in Los Angeles who struggles to navigate his childhood trauma as he prepares for the birth of his first child.

However, things start to get pretty weird when he ends up seeing a mysterious beam of light one night on his shift. He wakes up after this odd encounter with images of aliens and desert landscapes plaguing his mind. The Walking Dead actor Ross Marquand stars in the lead role of this twisty and tense horror with a very decent 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. You can stream the movie on Hulu right now.

The Theory of Everything

Awards darling The Theory of Everything is now available to stream on Netflix. The biographical drama tells the love story of physicist Stephen Hawking (Eddie Redmayne) and his wife, Jane Wilde Hawking (Felicity Jones). The pair navigate his advancing illness and rising fame across three decades of their lives, beginning with their first meeting at Cambridge University.

If you missed this one when it was released back in 2014, it's well worth a watch now for its tender and emotional retelling of Hawking's life. Nominated for five Oscars and winning the Academy Award for Redmayne, it's easy to see why this movie is so well-loved. It's on Prime Video in the UK for four days before it heads to Netflix in the US on May 31.

The first trailer for Sugar season 2 has arrived, and John Sugar is back on the case.

In the brief clip, which can be viewed below, Sugar is tasked with another missing persons case... which involves gang violence, a corrupt police force, and a whole new cast of characters.

Season 2 sees Sugar return to investigate a new case: finding the missing older brother of an up-and-coming local boxer (as his search for his beloved missing sister continues). According to the official synopsis: "As the investigation expands into a city-wide conspiracy with sinister intentions, Sugar must reckon with himself to answer the question – how far will he go to do what’s right?"

Newcomers to the cast include Jin Ha, Raymond Lee, Marvel's very own Tony Dalton, Laura Donnelly, Sasha Calle, and Shea Whigham. You might also recall that rather dramatic twist at the end of season 1, which is teased oh so lightly at the end of the season 2 trailer: "Where are you from?" Charlotte asks. "Can we skip that one?" Sugar replies.

The series, created by The Cell and I Am Legend screenwriter Mark Protosevich, premiered on Apple TV Plus back in 2024 and was swiftly renewed for a second season. It also received an Emmy nomination for Best Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (Half Hour). Sam Catlin, creator of AMC's Preacher, takes over as showrunner for season 2.

The latest "Marvel Special Television Presentation" is a defiantly single-minded look at Frank Castle – AKA The Punisher. Still grieving the loss of his family, Frank is kind of going to pieces. When an old enemy places a hit on him, however, he is forced out of his funk and into a fight for survival. Cue lots of shooting, stabbing, and grunting as Frank battles his way through hordes of baddies.

Clocking in at well under an hour, One Last Kill is a bracingly short, sharp and violent ride. The action sequences are well-directed, full of kinetic energy and make up for a slightly stodgy first half. It's a fun coda to Daredevil: Born Again's recent second season and a nice appetiser before the Punisher's next appearance, in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The Black Phone 2 (Netflix)

This horror sequel is set four year's after the terrific first film. Finney (Mason Thames) and Gwen (Madeleine McGraw) are still grappling with the events of the original movie. The Grabber (Ethan Hawke) may be dead, but his evil still endures. Meanwhile, Gwen's psychic powers are growing ever more powerful. She is experiencing strange dreams, which lead her and Finney to the remote Alpine Lake Camp. But are they walking into a trap?

The first Black Phone was an effective chiller and this sequel maintains the high quality. It moves the series into a more fantastical realm than the original, but maintains the same eerie atmosphere.

The Crash (Netflix)

Netflix continues to be the home of a steady stream of intriguing true crime documentaries. The Crash tells the true story of Mackenzie Shirilla, who was 17-years-old when she drove her car at 100 MPH into a brick wall, injuring Shirilla and killing her boyfriend Dominic Russo and his friend Davion Flanagan. At first it seemed like a horrible accident, but following the police's investigation Shirilla was convicted with 12 felony charges, including two counts of aggravated murder.

The Crash delves into this strange and unsettling case, examining Shirilla and Russo's relationship and the police investigation. A dark but fascinating story.

Rivals season 2 (Hulu)

The second season of Disney Plus's hugely successful bonkbuster returns in fine form. Lord Tony Baddingham (David Tennant) has survived the fateful cliffhanger to season 1, and now he wants revenge on his enemies, including Rupert Campbell-Black (Alex Hassell). The war between Baddingham's TV network Corinium and Campbell-Black's Venturer reaches new heights. Expect a slew of new relationships, plenty of backstabbing and outrageous '80s fashion, and, of course, a lot of sex.

Inspired by the late Jilly Cooper's series of novels, Rivals is every bit as fun and silly as before but with perhaps a slightly tighter focus on the plot this time around, as the rivalry between Baddingham and Campbell-Black escalates.

We're four episodes into Apple TV's new horror comedy and the show has continued to go from strength to strength. This week's instalment, titled 'Beach Reads,' switches the focus away from Mayor Tom for the first time, turning the lens on his assistant Patricia (Kate O'Flynn). As we learned in the show's opening episode, Patricia is the survivor of a serial killer known as the Boogeyman. We get to see some of how that has impacted her in this episode as she tries to host a party – with nightmarish consequences.

We're absolutely obsessed with this show. 'Beach Reads' threads the needle between telling an agonizing story about social anxiety and continuing to up the supernatural events that are happening on the island. Gripping, funny, and genuinely quite scary, Widow's Bay might be the best show on TV right now.

Welcome to Wrexham season 5 (Hulu)

The fifth season of this hit sports documentary takes us back to Wrexham A.F.C. – the struggling Welsh football club bought by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney back in 2020. The club has had its ups and downs in the years since, but now they are back in the English Football League Championship. That's great news, but brings with it even more pressure.

Welcome to Wrexham has always been as much about the supporters as the players and this new season doesn't change that. The opening episode, for instance, features the family of Bailey Jones, a Wrexham fan who died in 2023 aged just 20, and whose organs have since been donated to others. It's a moving, powerful story and one that shows how interwoven a local sports team can be in the lives of its fans.

Devil May Cry season 2

The second season of this animated video game adaptation looks even more explosive than the first – and we mean that literally, with the trailer showing off Dante with a rocket launcher. These eight new episodes will finally bring the demon hunter and his twin brother Vergil face-to-face, but will this be a happy family reunion?

Creator Adi Shankar has said that the new season is a step up from the first run, telling Netflix, "Season 2 is just way, way, way bigger in terms of scope and scale." As well as more intense action, you can expect deeper and more emotional drama as the series delves into the story of the twins and the different paths their lives have taken in the years since. Get ready for fireworks.

Marty Supreme

Josh Safdie's much-hyped table tennis dramedy arrives on HBO Max. Timothée Chalamet stars as Marty Mauser, a talented player (loosely based on real-life sportsman Marty Reisman) who is determined to be the best in the game. But as skilled as Marty undoubtedly is at table tennis, he's also selfish, venal, and up to his neck in trouble. Set in a beautifully-depicted 1950s New York, the film follows Marty's various sporting and sexual escapades as he winds up deeper and deeper in trouble.

Chalamet is superb in the lead here, and he's backed up with some stellar talent, including Odessa A'zion, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Tyler Okonma – otherwise known as Tyler, the Creator, making his acting debut. An immaculately envisioned cinematic epic.

Rivals season 2

The second season of this steamy romp based on the late Jilly Cooper's series of novels takes us back to the '80s for more sex, scheming, and ever-more-ridiculous plot twists. Lord Tony Baddingham (David Tennant) has survived the attempt on his life at the end of season one and now intends to make his enemies pay. Chief amongst them is ex-showjumper-turned-politician Rupert Campbell-Black (Alex Hassell), who has launched a rival TV network in order to trump Baddingham's. Lord Tony isn't going to stand for that, and so the two go to war once more.

Yes, if anything, this run of Rivals is bigger, sillier, and hornier than ever before, but there's also a stronger focus on the human drama this time around – amid the bonking, of course.

Marty, Life is Short

This new documentary delves into the life and losses of comedian Martin Short. The famous funnyman has endured multiple tragedies, losing both his parents and his brother at a young age, and then later his wife and daughter. Directed by Hollywood legend and Raiders of the Lost Ark screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, the documentary paints a powerful image of an actor and comedian who is determined to look on the bright side of life, despite the truly awful losses that he has endured.

As funny and life affirming as it is deeply emotional, this is a fascinating look at one of the most influential comedians of his age, with input from his friends and family.

Dutton Ranch

The seemingly endless slew of Yellowstone spin-offs continues unabated. Dutton Ranch follows Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and her husband Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) as they up sticks and move to South Texas, along with their adopted son Carter (Finn Little). They're hoping to build a new life, but it's not long before they find themselves facing a whole new set of challenges and enemies.

Yes, this fifth Yellowstone universe show looks very much like more of the same sort of thing, which is presumably great news for fans. Also along for the ride are the legendary Ed Harris and Annette Bening. Two more spin-offs, 1944 and 6666, are also currently in development.

Good Omens series finale

The planned third and final season of this fantasy show finally arrives – albeit in a in much-truncated form. Originally intended to be a full season, it was reduced to a single feature-length episode in the wake of allegations against co-creator Neil Gaiman in 2024.

The new "season 3" picks up in the wake of the kiss that angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and Crowley (David Tennant) shared at the end of the previous season, before they went their separate ways seemingly forever. Now, however, Aziraphale has been tasked with overseeing the Second Coming and that inevitably leads him back to Crowley. Will it be a case of happily ever after, or will everything quite literally go to Hell?

There are very few things more exciting to me than finding a new TV obsession – and in Apple TV's Widow's Bay, I've discovered just that. The new horror-comedy is set in the titular New England town, an island-based community that is struggling due to a distinct lack of tourists – oh, and a curse that has left it prone to all manner of terrifying supernatural phenomena.

The Americans' Matthew Rhys stars as Tom Loftis, the ambitious, slightly venal, mostly likable local mayor. He's heard all the rumours and legends and folktales, and he doesn't believe any of them. When he learns that a writer from the New York Times is due to visit, he spies a chance to put Widow's Bay back on the map. But doing so risks reigniting the evil that has long haunted the town.

"Bah, screw it," he thinks. He doesn't believe in any of that stuff, anyway. That turns out to be a very big mistake...

Right from the off, you can see hints of older shows in Widow's Bay's make-up. It's set in a small town beset by supernatural phenomena, so of course it's in debt to the OG of this sort of thing (and the canonical greatest TV show of all time), Twin Peaks. The municipal planning aspects feel very Parks & Recreation – a series that showrunner Katie Dippold worked on. But there are also elements of Northern Exposure, Eerie, Indiana, even cult Australian kids show Round the Twist thrown into the mix.

Terrifyingly funny

The various supernatural threats are consciously familiar too. The first two episodes allude to a Michael Myers-like serial killer, "the Boogeyman", who preyed on teenagers. There's a sinister fog at sea, a creepy clown, plus rumours of cannibalism in the town's history. Despite the familiarity of these elements, however, Widow's Bay feels surprisingly fresh and original. It works because the show's mixture of horror and comedy is rooted in character.

Last week's terrific third episode, for instance, saw Tom haunted by a Sea Hag, which eventually invades his home, leading to a genuinely creepy – and undeniably real for Tom – encounter in his house. A lesser show may have spun out Tom's scepticism for the full first season, but three episodes in, and he is starkly confronted with the truth of the weird events around him.

Aside from the horror elements, the episode worked as a sweet, awkward romantic comedy, with the mayor being charmed by an island visitor named Marissa (Elizabeth Alderfer), and as a character piece about how quietly broken he still is following the death of his wife, many years previously.

The show is also blessed with a terrific supporting cast. Patricia (Kate O'Flynn) plays Tom's wonderfully deadpan assistant, herself the survivor of an encounter with the aforementioned Boogeyman. Wyck (the great Stephen Root from Barry) is the local folklorist and a combustible combination of Giles from Buffy and Quint from Jaws (not the only character to echo that film, with Tom often reminiscent of a more likeable Mayor Larry Vaughn).

Evan (Kingston Rumi Southwick), Tom's troubled son, doesn't feel quite fully developed yet, but it's a solid performance, and an important reveal in episode three adds some tragic layers to his relationship with his father.

The town where I'm livin' now

Widow's Bay's first season is 10 episodes long, and all bets are off when it comes to where the show will go from here. Will Tom bury his head in the sand for the sake of making the town "the new Martha's Vineyard"? Will the other members of his team also encounter supernatural terrors? And what monsters should we expect to see next?

So far, despite its ongoing elements, it's an enjoyably episodic series (a side note, but it's so nice to have a TV show that looks fantastic, but is also unashamed of being, well, television and not "a 10-hour movie") but, three episodes in, there's already a sense of events building to a head on the island.

There's a thing that Twin Peaks does really well. Despite that town being famously plagued by supernatural evil and more overt criminality than most capital cities, it's an appealing imaginary place. Fans visit the real-world locations and imagine what it would be like to live inside the show.

Widow's Bay has this atmosphere too. It's creepy but comforting, sinister but also endlessly charming. I absolutely love it and can't wait to find out what happens next.

This sequel to 2020's unexpectedly good Gerard Butler-starring apocalypse thriller picks up five years after an asteroid slammed into the planet, wiping out most of the population. John Garrity (Butler) and his family have been living safely inside a bunker, but now it's time for them to venture back out onto the surface and try to rebuild civilization. But the Earth is a changed world, one beset with deadly weather conditions, earthquakes, radiation – and far-less-friendly survivors.

The first Greenland movie was a really solid apocalypse thriller. Migration moves the series into slightly more predictable terrain, but Butler is still good as Garrity and it's a satisfying sequel that takes a different approach to the first film.

We Bury the Dead (Hulu)

Daisy Ridley stars in this terrific new zombie movie. We Bury the Dead takes place in the wake of an experimental weapon detonating off the coast of Tasmania. Physiotherapist Ava Newman (Ridley) joins a military effort to retrieve the bodies of those killed in the explosion, thinking that her husband Mitch (Matt Whelan) may be among them. As she is confronting this personal tragedy, however, the dead start to rise...

Like all the best zombie films, We Bury the Dead mixes potent horror with weighty themes. If not quite a George Romero-level masterpiece, Zak Hilditch's film is still a living dead movie with – sorry – braaaiiiinsss...

Hot Fuzz (Prime Video)

The second instalment in Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright's loose "Cornetto trilogy" is one of the funniest films of the century so far. Pegg plays Nicholas Angel, a by-the-books London cop who is reassigned to the sleepy rural town of Sandford, Gloucestershire. He thinks he's going to be bored, but it's not long before he and his colleague Danny (Nick Frost) find themselves caught up in a gruesome murder mystery.

Hot Fuzz is an explosive collision of the whodunnit and action movie genres with a dash of folk horror thrown in for good measure. The mystery is compelling and the action scenes genuinely exciting. It's also funny as hell and endlessly quotable. The rumour that Pegg, Wright, and Frost may soon reunite for a fourth film has us very excited indeed.

Song of the Samurai (HBO Max)

Missing Shōgun? This new period samurai drama sounds very promising. Inspired by the long-running manga Chiruran: Shinsengumi Requiem by Umemura Shinya, Song of the Samurai follows Toshizo Hijikata (Yuki Yamada) a warrior who is recruited by the Shinsengumi – a real-life secret samurai police force formed in 1863. Members were typically drawn from the sword schools of Edo, but Hijikata is a street fighter. Despite his differences with his comrades, however, he quickly forms strong bonds of trust that will be tested as the Shinsengumi face conflict.

If you're after an exciting blend of samurai action, historical drama, and political intrigue then this new series is for you. Song of the Samurai debuts on HBO Max on May 9.

The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek (Netflix)

This long-awaited sequel to the Danish crime thriller picks up with detectives Naia Thulin (Danica Curcic) and Mark Hess (Mikkel Boe Følsgaard) reuniting to investigate more crimes in Copenhagen. A woman has gone missing and it's not long before Thulin and Hess's investigations reveal that she was the victim of a stalker. Soon evidence suggests that her disappearance is linked to a sinister "game" of hide and seek.

Based on Søren Sveistrup's novel Hide and Seek, the series reunites the show's original cast for another mean and moody case. If you're a fan of Scandi noir shows, then both seasons of The Chestnut Man will be right up your alley. You can stream them in full on Netflix now.

M.I.A. (Peacock)

Another week, another new crime thriller... Still, this one looks very intriguing. M.I.A. follows Etta Tiger Jonze (Shannon Gisela), a young woman whose family is murdered by a drugs cartel. Left for dead, Etta somehow manages to survive and sets out to take revenge, embarking on a lethal rampage through the criminal underworld of Miami.

Slick and stylish, M.I.A. is the brainchild of Ozark co-creator Bill Dubuque. Etta must train if she's to stand a chance of taking out the 12 men who destroyed her life... but the cartel is not going to simply give up and die. Expect action, bloodshed, and a few twists and turns along the way.

Although the threat of the impact has passed, John and his family face new trouble from deadly weather conditions, radioactive fallout, and other survivors. Can they make it in this dark new world?

Legends

Alan Partridge star Steve Coogan plays grizzled detective Don in this new crime thriller from showrunner Neil Forsyth, previously best known for The Gold. Don must put together a team of customs employees in the UK to adopt new identities, go undercover, and infiltrate dangerous heroin-smuggling gangs. "Your legend has to be part of you. One wrong word, one wrong decision, and you're a goner," he warns the new recruits who are about to put their lives on the line.

Set in the 1990s and inspired by true events, Legends is a slow burn, but the cast is excellent, the drama compelling, and the human stakes high.

Citadel season 2

The second season of this Russo Brothers-produced spy thriller is every bit as enjoyably OTT as the first run. Spy agency Citadel has fallen and in its place is the sinister Manticore. Now Bernard (Stanley Tucci), Nadia (Priyanka Chopra), and Mason (Richard Madden) must fight back while grappling with the fallout of season 1's revelations.

Don't come to Citadel expecting a serious depiction of the ins and outs of the espionage world. Do come to it if you're looking for an exciting, brash, and somewhat silly spy adventure show with the action turned up to 11.

We Bury the Dead

Star Wars' Daisy Ridley heads up this intriguing zombie movie. She plays Ava Newman, a woman whose husband Mitch (Matt Whelan) was likely killed when an experimental weapon of mass destruction detonated off the coast of Tasmania. Ava joins a body recovery unit in the hope of finding Mitch or at least getting some closure – but then some of the dead start to rise...

Like all the best zombie films, We Bury the Dead is both a full-blooded shocker and about some deeper themes. Ridley is excellent as Ava, and the film is steeped in a melancholy atmosphere. It's hard to make this sub-genre feel fresh after decades of releases, but writer and director Zak Hilditch manages it with a movie that's very worth your time.

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 finale

The final episode of this dark Marvel's show second year is streaming now. Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) must face Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) for perhaps the last time as their battle for New York reaches its crescendo. Who will live and who will die? The season has already proved willing to kill off core characters where necessary and all bets are off as Daredevil and Kingpin reach the climax of their long and bloody feud.

We're not going to spoil what happens in the episode here, suffice to say that it's a very satisfying finale to what has been a genuinely great season of TV.

The Breakfast Club

This classic teen comedy-drama is one of the greatest films of the 1980s. Directed by John Hughes, it follows a group of high schoolers in Saturday morning detention. A gang of misfits with nothing in common, they soon start to bond and realise that perhaps they are more similar than they first thought.

Starring Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, and Molly Ringwald, The Breakfast Club is a perfect snapshot of its era, replete with quotable dialogue, laugh-out-loud comedy, deep characterization – and one ill-advised makeover. It's true that some elements haven't aged so well, but it remains Hughes' best film and an '80s classic.

If you're looking for something for the whole family to enjoy this weekend, then this new animated adventure could be just the ticket. In Swapped, a cute little critter named Ollie (voiced by Michael B. Jordan) and a bird named Ivy (Juno Temple) unexpectedly switch bodies. Now these two former foes are forced to work together on a perilous quest to undo the spell.

With a starry cast, which also includes Tracy Morgan as a fish named Boogle, this looks like a lot of fun. Swapped debuts on Netflix on May 1, and is ideal for kicking off the new month.

"Wuthering Heights"

This adaptation of Emily Brontë's novel is certainly one of the most talked-about films this year. Emerald Fennell reinvents Wuthering Heights as a raunchy bodice-ripper – a move that has divided opinions. For some, the film puts a bold and modern new spin on a book that has been previously adapted many times. For others, it's a campy and trashy take on the timeless story of Cathy (Margot Robbie) and Heathcliff (Jacob Elordi)'s tempestuous and ultimately toxic romance.

Regardless of the critical opinion, Fennell's version has been a huge hit. Find out where you stand on it when it hits HBO Max on May 1.

Jennifer's Body (Netflix)

Diablo Cody's 2009 horror comedy classic is arriving on Netflix on May 1. It follows Jennifer Check (Megan Fox), a high school cheerleader who is sacrificed to Satan by a deadbeat indie band. The ritual works, but Jennifer is transformed into a succubus who proceeds to start picking off the local boys. Meanwhile, Jennifer's best friend, Needy (Amanda Seyfried), starts to figure out that something is very wrong with Jennifer.

Jennifer's Body was not a hit on its original release, but it has found a strong cult following in the years since, also enjoying a solid critical reappraisal, with Vox's Constance Grady calling the film a "forgotten feminist classic." Darkly witty and shot through with anger, it's well worth your time in 2026.

New TV shows

Widow's Bay (Apple TV)

This new horror comedy series comes from Katie Dippold, who previously worked on Parks and Recreation. It's set in an island town off the coast of New England – a town that is supposedly cursed. Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) doesn't believe in such things. He wants to bring tourists back to the town – but when he does, strange things start to happen and he begins to question everything he previously thought possible.

There's an unmistakable whiff of Stephen King about Widow's Bay, with the horror aspects well-balanced with the dark humor. Also caught up in the chaos are Tom's colleagues Patricia (Kate O'Flynn), Dale (Jeff Hiller), and Rosemary (Dale Dickey). The 10-episode season premiered its first two episodes on Apple TV earlier this week, with the rest of the season rolling out weekly over the next few months.

Man on Fire (Netflix)

If the name of this new thriller sounds familiar, then you're probably thinking of Tony Scott's terrific Denzel Washington-starring movie from 2004. Netflix's adaptation of the novel by A.J. Quinnell stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as John Creasy, a former Marine, who is hired to protect a young woman from a kidnapping plot. When things go wrong, however, Creasy will stop at nothing to save the day and take revenge.

If Netflix's version of Man on Fire is anything like the original, then we should expect explosive action and a few twists. The full seven-episode season is streaming now – just in time for a weekend binge!

The House of the Spirits (Prime Video)

This Spanish-language drama adapts Isabel Allende's novel of the same name. The story follows the Trueba family across a span of 50 years. Heading the family is the cruel Esteban Trueba (Alfonso Herrera), but the story is more about three generations of women: Esteban's daughter Blanca (Fernanda Urrejola), grandmother Clara (Nicole Wallace and Dolores Fonzi), and granddaughter Alba (Rocío Hernández). As well as being an insightful family drama, there's a dash of fantasy here, with Clara seeming to exhibit genuine psychic gifts.

Mixing historical drama with magical elements, this is an engaging new drama inspired by a great novel. And while The House of the Spirits takes a few diversions from its source material, it's still largely faithful to Allende's book.

The first trailer for Ted Lasso season 4 has arrived, and the beloved football coach is back in action.

In the brief clip, which can be viewed above, Ted returns to Richmond to take on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a women's football team. He has some help, though, from Sex Education star Tanya Reynolds. We also see a montage of all our favorite characters, including Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, and Brett Goldstein. Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift are part of the returning cast, with new members including Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern, and Grant Feely.

The trailer reveals that Ted Lasso season 4 will hit Apple TV Plus on August 5. The show will air weekly episodes through October 7.

You might recall that the show was set to end after season 3, with the final episode titled, 'So Long, Farewell.' Star Jason Sudeikis surprise-announced the show's return on a podcast last year (and I think it might have something to do with all of those Ted Lasso dancing compilations going viral on TikTok).

The official synopsis reads: "The fourth season will see Ted return to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would."

Man on Fire

If the name of this new thriller sounds familiar that's because it's based on a novel by A. J. Quinnell that was previously made into a film starring Denzel Washington. Netflix's new take on the story stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen ll as John Creasy, an ex-Special Forces soldier suffering from PTSD and looking for a new start in life. He befriends a young woman named Poe Rayburn (Billie Boullet), but when her life is endangered, Creasy comes to the rescue.

Hot on the heels of his fine turn in Marvel's Wonder Man, Yahya Abdul-Mateen ll is having a great TV year. This looks tough, explosive, and exciting. Man on Fire turns up the heat on April 30, when the seven-episode season becomes available to stream in full.

"Wuthering Heights"

Saltburn director Emerald Fennell presents a fresh version of Emily Brontë's iconic novel. Margot Robbie stars as Cathy Earnshaw, a young woman caught up in a tumultuous love affair with Jacob Elordi's handsome, brooding outcast Heathcliff. Their tempestuous relationship soon becomes twisted, however, leading to a spiral of obsession and revenge that may end up destroying both of them.

Fennell's "Wuthering Heights" (and yes, the quote marks are very much intentional) has been controversial in some quarters, but she is undoubtedly an interesting director who brings a distinct and edgy new vision to this iconic story.

Swapped

Michael B. Jordan and Juno Temple star in this cute and funny new animated comedy. Swapped follows a Pookoo (a mythical sort of sea otter) named Ollie (Jordan) who is body-swapped with his arch enemy – a bird name Ivy (Temple). The two embark on a magical adventure to get back into their own bodies. Being forced to work together is good for them, it turns out, and it's not long before these foes become firm friends.

Yes, this sounds like Freaky Friday but with talking animals – and that sounds like a pretty fun concept to us! Also along for the adventure is Tracy Morgan as a fish called Boogle. Swapped debuts on Netflix on May 1, just in time for the weekend.

The Boss (El Encargado) season 2

This Spanish-language drama follows Eliseo Basurto (Guillermo Francella), the superintendent of a high-end apartment complex in Buenos Aires. In the first season Eliseo manipulated the residents around him, pitting the tenants against each other to get his own way. In season 2, however, his schemes are threatened by the arrival of Lucila Morris (María Abadi), a high-profile NGO director who starts to destabilize life in the building.

The Boss has been a huge hit in Argentina and it's easy to see why: it's a darkly witty show, full of twists, turns and memorable characters. If you've not seen it yet, now is a great time to jump on board.

Should I Marry A Murderer?

If you've already wizzed through Netflix's recent cult documentary Trust Me: The False Prophet and are in the mood for more true crime then this two-episode series may be one for you. It tells the story of forensic pathologist Dr. Caroline Muirhead, who fell in love with Alexander "Sandy" McKellar after meeting him on a dating app. Sandy eventually proposed to Caroline, but in doing so revealed a terrible secret – one that puts her in the awful position of having to choose whether to stick with the man she loved or report him to the police.

She chose the latter, gathering evidence in the process that later led to McKellar's arrest. A fascinating true story.

The Conjuring: Last Rites

The most recent instalment in The Conjuring franchise puts paranormal investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) through their toughest mission yet. It's the 1980s and the Smurl family has moved into a new house. It's not long, however, before strange and terrifying events start to plague them. The Warrens are called in, but even they may be tested by this one – a haunting that links back to the beginnings of their careers.

Despite the finality of the title, The Conjuring: Last Rites was a huge success and a prequel movie is already in the works. It's easy to see why: The Conjuring movies may not be hugely frightening films but they are good, spooky, crowd-pleasing fun.

Adam Scott knows how Severance ends – but he's not giving us any hints about what's in store for the Macrodata Refinement department.

"Oh, yes. I’m an executive producer on the show, so I’m involved in all of it," Scott, who plays grieving widower Mark Scout and his at-work "innie", Mark S., told Variety when asked if he knew the ultimate plan for the show. "We talk with the writers and Dan [Erickson, showrunner] all the time. I know everything about what’s going on. [As an actor] I like having as much information as possible."

As for Severance season 3, "It’s going to be great," he added. "There are so many surprises. I can’t wait to shoot it."

Severance season 2 wrapped up in March 2025 on Apple TV, almost three years after season 1 premiered. Hopefully, there isn't such a long wait for season 3 but, as Scott's comments suggest, production isn't underway just yet.

One big change to the show's third installment is that Ben Stiller won't be directing any episode, after helming half of season 2's 10-episode run. "I love directing it and look forward to at some point again for sure. I feel like season 3 is going to be the best yet as we continue to evolve," he said last year.

Next up for Scott is Hokum, a new horror movie about an author who travels to Ireland to spread his parents' ashes and discovers that his rented accommodation could be haunted. Directed by Damian McCarthy, the cast also includes Austin Amelio and David Wilmott.

A simple hike turns into a deadly cat-and-mouse game in Netflix's new action thriller Apex. The movie stars Charlize Theron as Sasha, a woman planning to test her limits in the unforgiving Australian wilderness. However, she makes the fatal error of trusting an amiable local for directions, played by Taron Egerton sporting a questionable accent, and he leads her into a trap. When they meet again in the bush, he tells her she has the length of a song to get "as far away from him as possible".

This looks like the perfect Friday night escapism watch, complete with beautiful locations and epic action sequences. There's some serious talent involved, too, as Egerton and Theron are great actors, which should elevate this from your usual Netflix thriller. At the very least, it's great to see Theron channel Furiosa-style action once again.

No Other Choice (Hulu)

No Other Choice may have been overlooked at the 2026 Oscars, but you shouldn't sleep on this excellent thriller now that it has hit streaming. Directed by Old Boy's Park Chan-wook, this South Korean black comedy stars Squid Game's Lee Byung-hun as a desperate salesman who decides to get the job he needs, he must kill off all of his competition.

The movie has a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, having been praised for being a clever and funny satire on the corporate rat race. It's a timely watch as well as being a masterfully made work of cinema from one of the greatest directors around. If that's not enough to hook you, check out what the director and star had to tell us about the premise.

Marty Supreme (HBO Max)

Timothée Chalamet was nominated for an Oscar for Josh Safdie's engaging sports drama Marty Supreme. Arriving on HBO Max this weekend, it's well worth your time if you missed it on the big screen. Starring the Dune actor in the titular role, the drama charts the ups and downs of table tennis player Marty Mauser as he attempts to become world champion.

Chalamet is excellent as the wisecracking lead in this pacy and fun movie, bringing heart to a pretty unlikeable character. In a typical Safdie fashion, too, it moves at a thousand miles a minute, but you'll enjoy every second of the ride. It helps that Chalamet is joined by an impressive supporting cast, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A'zion, and Kevin O'Leary. One for the weekend watch list in our book.

Stranger Things: Tales from '85 (Netflix)

Just when we thought we'd said goodbye to Hawkins, Netflix gives us this treat of an animated show. Stranger Things: Tales from '85 tells a new story set between the second and third seasons of the main live-action series. It follows our favorite gang as the Upside Down starts causing issues for the small town once again.

While it's pretty confusing if you start navigating Stranger Things canon, taken on its own, this is a fun, nostalgia-filled joy ride. As our Stranger Things: Tales from '85 review says, it's the most kid-friendly version of this world yet and is full of fun. Take it at face value, and it seems like this could be the perfect weekend watch. More could be on its way too, according to what the showrunner told us recently...

Half Man (HBO Max)

Richard Gadd's hotly anticipated follow-up to Baby Reindeer has been on our radar since it was first announced. Although for those expecting something similar, think again, as Gadd looks almost unrecognizable as Ruben Pallister, the tough-as-nails and extremely violent half-brother of Jamie Bell's Niall Kennedy. When Ruben shows up unannounced at Niall's wedding, it proves to be a catalyst for unpicking 40 years of their relationship.

Told through flashbacks and present-day sequences, this limited series looks like a searing exploration of how different families can be. So far, reviews have been cautiously positive for the new show, with many praising its exploration of toxic masculinity. However, it seems like it's not for the faint of heart, with references to brutal sequences mentioned by almost every critic. A tough and important watch that shouldn't be missed.

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 episode 6 (Disney Plus)

We may be nearing the end of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, but thankfully, the latest episode hasn't slowed down the pace of the Marvel series. Episode six follows the aftermath of Vanessa Fisk's death as a familiar face makes an appearance. Yes, Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones is finally back on our screens – and we couldn't be happier to see the super-powered private investigator once again.

This season of the show has been hugely enjoyable, upping the stakes for Matt Murdock and Karen Page as they navigate a New York City run by Wilson Fisk and his Anti-Vigilante Task Force. This week's outing is especially a must-watch, as we build up to the final two episodes in this season.

Stranger Things: Tales From '85

This new animated series takes us back in time to catch up with the Stranger Things kids in the months between seasons 2 and 3 of the live action show. In the winter of 1985 Mike, Eleven, and the gang (all voiced by new actors) face a new paranormal threat. They're joined by Nikki Baxter (Odessa A'zion) – a new kid on the block, who was suspiciously never mentioned in the main show. Place your bets now on if they make it out of the season alive or not...

With the main show now concluded, animation is a smart way for Stranger Things to continue. The 10-episode Tales From '85 drops on April 23.

Good Boy

This horror movie may sound like a bit of a gimmick, but it turned out to be one of last year's most pleasant surprises. Good Boy flips the perspective of a traditional horror flick, so that we see the events through the eyes of a pet dog! The pup in question is Indy, a Retriever, who moves with his owner Todd (Shane Jensen) to an old house in the country – only to find that the house is very haunted indeed...

Good Boy was a hit when it was released in cinemas last year. Part of its brilliance is that even with this seemingly silly premise, it manages to be genuinely quite creepy and affecting. And yes, Indy the dog is absolutely adorable.

Half Man

Netflix's Baby Reindeer took the world by storm in 2024. Now that show's star and creator Richard Gadd is back with his first new show, a six-part co-production between HBO Max and the BBC. Half Man tells the story of the close – almost brotherly – relationship between Ruben (Gadd) and Niall (Jamie Bell). The two men have known each other for decades, but as time has worn on, things have taken a violent and toxic turn.

An unflinching depiction of masculinity and obsession, Half Man looks like a gripping drama. Baby Reindeer was an incredibly compelling piece of work and this certainly looks very promising.

Apex

Charlize Theron stars in this tough and exciting new survival thriller. Theron plays Sasha, a woman who has embarked on a solo trek through Australia's Wandarra National Park as a way to process her grief following a recent loss. When she crosses paths with a hunter played by Taron Egerton, however, things take a very dark turn. It's not long before she finds herself pursued by a ruthless killer.

Genuinely shot in Australia, this looks like an exciting and immersive new twist on the classic premise of The Most Dangerous Game. Egerton gives a twitchy, nervy performance while Theron excels as a survivor who must call on all her wits and ingenuity to survive in the wilds against a crossbow-wielding predator.

Criminal Record season 2

Former Doctor Who Peter Capaldi stars alongside Cush Jumbo in this new crime thriller. Capaldi plays DCI Daniel Hegarty, a seasoned detective who clashes with young DS June Lenker (Jumbo) over a historic murder conviction. Over the course of a terrific first season the two detectives were grudgingly forced to work together. Still, the show skirted crime drama cliché by keeping their relationship tense and spiky even after they became allies.

In season 2, Lenker is now working as part of a team trying to halt a far-right hate group. When things go badly wrong, she finds herself drawn into something much bigger and more deadly – and once again crosses paths with Hegarty. Now the two 'tecs must race against time to save the day. Good, smart stuff from a classier type of crime show.

Rental Family

This Brendan Fraser-starring comedy drama proved divisive when it was released in cinemas late last year, with some loving it and others far less convinced. Fraser stars as Phillip Vanderploeg, a struggling actor living in Tokyo forced to take minor bit parts to pay the bills. Then he stumbles upon a very unusual gig: working for an agency offering "rental families", where he poses as a fake father, a fake son, a fake husband, and so on. He quickly realizes, however, that he is starting to genuinely empathize with his clients.

Rental Family is a sweet-natured film, one that questions if Phillip's fake affection can become real with time and performance. It is, perhaps, a touch sentimental, but that's not always a bad thing.

This satirical horror was produced by Jordan Peele's Monkeypaw Productions. It follows Cam Cade (Tyriq Withers), a rising star football player who is offered the chance to be mentored by his childhood hero, quarterback Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans), at a remote compound in the desert. He eagerly accepts, but White's training regimen is... extreme, and it's not long before things take a deeply sinister turn. How far will Cam go to be the G.O.A.T.?

HIM didn't make much of a splash when it was released last year, but there's a lot to enjoy in Justin Tipping's film, including some super-stylish direction and a deadpan sense of humor.

The Hunger Games saga (Hulu)

There's a brand new Hunger Games movie headed our way at the end of the year. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is a prequel that takes us back in time to find out the backstory of Haymitch Abernathy and the infamously bloody Second Quarter Quell. Before that, you can catch up on the whole series so far, with all five films coming back to Hulu.

The first two films (The Hunger Games and Catching Fire) remain excellent movies – smart and exciting thrillers with a strong current of political commentary. The two-part Mockingjay brings the series to a slightly muddled conclusion, but you'll need to see how it all ends. Finally, 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is a pretty solid prequel, which reveals the tragedy behind the franchise's villain, Coriolanus Snow.

Halloween Ends (Netflix)

A slightly complicated recommendation this, because the final chapter in David Gordon Green's Halloween trilogy is more "interesting" than "great". Still, if you have a fondness for this franchise then it's worth a watch and the way it wraps up the saga is fascinatingly unexpected. It's three years after serial killer Michael Myers' most recent rampage. Young Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell) is an outcast in Haddonfield, following a fatal accident. Isolated and losing his grip on reality, he develops an unhealthy obsession with Myers.

Moving the focus off an iconic villain (who is largely lurking in the background) and on to a new character was certainly a bold choice and one that doesn't entire work, but there's an evocative, Twin Peaks-y atmosphere to the film that feels fresh for this franchise.

New TV shows

The Pitt season 2 finale (HBO Max)

The second season of the mega-hit medical drama reaches its conclusion this week. The Pitt season 2 has seen Robby (Noah Wyle) sliding further into burnout and questioning his future as a doctor. Meanwhile a disaster at a waterslide has flooded the hospital with new patients, and ICE agents are complicating matters further. It's another chaotic day at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center.

The Pitt continues to be the most intense show on TV, with one disaster after another for the hospital's poor, beleaguered staff. It's an incredibly addictive show and this season finale looks like it could be a major turning point for the show.

Euphoria season 3 (HBO Max)

The third and very probably final season of the buzzy teen drama is now streaming on HBO Max. Season 2 ended with Rue (Zendaya) finding sobriety. Cut to five years later and things have not gone according to plan. Rue is now working as a drug mule for Laurie (Martha Kelley) and while things seem like they might be looking up for Nate (Jacob Elordi) and Cassie (Sydney Sweeney), who are now engaged, everyone is grappling with their own problems now that high school is over.

Euphoria has blown up in ways that few would predict, with Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, and Jacob Elordi all becoming a-list movie stars. Season 3 looks like another rollercoaster ride of emotional highs and lows.

Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord (Disney Plus)

Four episodes of this darker take on Star Wars are now available to stream. Maul is trying to build his criminal empire in the wake of the Clone Wars, while also hunting down the allies who have betrayed him. Meanwhile the former Sith is also planning to train a new new apprentice, Devon Izara (Gideon Adlon), a Jedi who is on the run following the Empire's Order 66, and very susceptible to Maul's evil influence.

Maul – Shadow Lord has been a solid hit for Disney. It's fascinating seeing a Wars show so fully from the perspective of a character who is still very much a villain – just a slightly more relatable one than the enemies he's battling.

Euphoria season 3

The long-awaited third season of Euphoria comes four years after the last and a lot has changed. The former students of East Highland High have graduated and are now dealing with adult problems. Rue Bennett (Zendaya) and her friends have drifted apart, with Rue herself now working as a drug mule to pay off her debts. Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and Nate (Jacob Elordi), meanwhile, are now engaged but face their own problems.

Euphoria is almost as famous for its behind-the-scenes drama as the events on screen at this point. It strongly seems like season 3 will be the show's last run. If so, it's been quite the ride. Episode one is out now, with the show rolling out weekly on HBO Max until the end of May.

Outcome

Keanu Reeves stars as an arrogant Hollywood action star named Reef Hawk in this new comedy, written by Jonah Hill (who also appears in front of the camera) and Ezra Woods. Although outwardly friendly, Reef is secretly kind of a jerk. When he discovers that someone is out to blackmail him, however, he is forced to confront and make amends for his many past mistakes.

This is very much Keanu – famously one of the nicest and most genuine actors in Hollywood – playing against type in a witty mystery. Also along for the ride is Cameron Diaz as Reef's friend Kyle, while Hill plays Reef's lawyer, Ira Slitz. Good fun.

Beef

The second season of Netflix's comedy-drama anthology series returns with a new cast. This time around, a freshly engaged – and desperate for cash – couple, Ashley (Cailee Spaeny) and Austin (Charles Melton), find themselves up against country club boss Josh (Oscar Isaac) and his wife Lindsay (Carey Mulligan). It's not long before the two couples are also competing for the approval of the club's billionaire owner, Chairwoman Park (Youn Yuh-jung).

Beef season 2 switches up the tone of the first season, replacing that run's intense feud with quietly simmering passive aggression between the couples. With a stellar cast, this is a must-see. All eight episodes drop on Netflix on April 16.

Merrily We Roll Along

Stephen Sondheim's hit musical comedy was revived on stage in 2022 and ran until 2024 with a starry cast that included Jonathan Groff, Daniel Radcliffe, and Lindsay Mendez. This film is a recording of one of the Broadway performances, and captures the lives of three friends over the course of 20 years, starting in 1976 before moving backwards in time to 1957. Over the course of these years, we learn how their relationships have shifted.

Fun fact: Richard Linklater started shooting a big-screen adaptation of the play in 2019 and will continue to work on it until at least 2040! You can wait decades to see that, if you like, but we recommend that you watch this performance in the meantime.

After that blistering – and absurdly violent – fourth episode, Daredevil: Born Again's second season has really turned up the heat. The battle between Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio) has consumed the city, and last week's episode saw Bullseye (Wilson Bethel) fully unleashed, with devastating consequences. As we cross the halfway point of the season, there's a sense that there's everything to play for in what has become the MCU's darkest show.

As ever, we're not allowed to give away what happens in the new episode in advance, but this is a turning point in the season. If you've not caught up yet, now is a really good time to get on board.

The Running Man

Edgar Wright's remake of the '80s action classic underperformed at the box office last year. A shame, because while it would be a stretch to call this a great reinvention it is, at least, pretty good. Glen Powell stars as Ben Richards, a laborer who can't afford his daughter's medical fees and who signs up to take part in a lethal game show. Now he's on the run, with the entire country out to get him.

Rather than being a straight remake of the Arnie-starring original, Wright's The Running Man skews closer to the original novella by Stephen King. It's fast-paced, satirical, and stylishly executed. It'll never replace the first film in our hearts, but it's a solid action movie in its own right.

Keanu Reeves' latest movie hasn't quite received the desired outcome on Rotten Tomatoes.

Outcome, a new dark comedy directed by Jonah Hill, is currently sitting at a disappointing score of 27% on the review aggregator site, based on 26 reviews.

Per the official synopsis, the Apple TV movie follows Reeves' Reef Hawk, "a beloved Hollywood star who must dive into the depths of his hidden demons after being extorted with a mysterious video that's sure to shatter his image and end his career." The cast also includes Cameron Diaz and Matt Bomer as Reef's best friends and Hill as his crisis lawyer.

Critics haven't taken kindly to Hill's latest directorial offering, though, with Collider writing, "Outcome is a fascinating mess that rides the line between sincerity and crassness."

"Whatever the right time would be for an exhausting comedy, laden with therapy-speak, about the hardships of film stardom, the current point of global distress is probably not it," reads the Financial Times' review.

Meanwhile, AV Club writes that "while there are affecting moments in Outcome about the perils of celebrity, far too often Hill comes close to true self-reflection, then quickly scurries away."

It's not all negativity, though. "There’s no denying Hill’s instinct for identifying the heart of a dramatic scene and turning the volume of the storytelling down low enough for us to hear it beating," says RogerEbert.com's review.

This is Hill's first time directing a fictional feature since 2018's Mid90s, a coming-of-age comedy about a teenager who begins spending time with an older group of skaters in '90s LA. Since then, he's also directed a documentary, Stutz, about his therapist.

This new disaster movie mixes two real world fears (man-eating sharks and hurricanes) to slightly preposterous but highly entertaining effect. In Thrash a coastal town is hit by a Category 5 hurricane that floods the town with water full of some very hungry sharks.

Some of the characters facing the very real possibility that they may now be on the menu are Phoebe Dynevor's pregnant mother-to-be Lisa Fields, who is trapped inside her car; Djimon Hounsou as heroic Dr. Dale Edwards; and Whitney Peak as Dakota – Dale's niece, who is battling agoraphobia. Perfect beer and pizza viewing.

Midwinter Break (Peacock)

On the other end of the spectrum, Midwinter Break follows retired couple Stella (Lesley Manville) and Gerry (Ciarán Hinds) as they embark on a trip to Amsterdam that will change their lives forever. Gerry is battling a drinking problem while Stella is starting to resent her husband's mockery of her religious beliefs – and perhaps just resent him full stop.

Hinds and Manville are superb in this emotionally impactful film that has much to say about the nature of love, faith, and Northern Irish history. While the film has received mixed reviews, it's ideal viewing if you're wanting to watch something meaningful and moving this weekend.

Christy (HBO Max)

This boxing drama tanked at the box office. That's a real shame because, while David Michôd's film is not breaking any new ground in the genre, it's still a solid and enjoyable biopic. It tells the story of former professional boxer Christy Martin (Sidney Sweeney), who finds that she has a natural talent in the ring and quickly builds a fierce reputation. But while her professional star is ascending, behind the scenes she is trapped in a horrendously abusive relationship.

Both an effective boxing flick and a potent character drama, Christy is a bleak but compelling watch that tells Christy Martin's often shocking true story with fine performances and a lot of heart.

Hacks season 5 (HBO Max)

The fifth and final season of this great comedy has just started on HBO Max. Hacks follows legendary comedian Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) and Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder), a recently-cancelled writer who finds herself forming an unlikely partnership with Vance. Over the last four seasons the two have found success, weathered a massive falling out that turned particularly toxic, and realised that they need each other to succeed. Now, following the wild season four finale, Deborah and Ava must find a way to truly work together on a more equal footing.

Hacks has built a devote following over the last few years. This final run of seven episodes brings the series to a satisfying close that's as funny and sharply-observed as ever.

Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord (Disney Plus)

This new Star Wars animated series is only a couple of episodes deep so far, but it has been pulling in rave reviews. It follows the former Sith Maul (voiced by Sam Witwer) in the years following the Clone Wars. Maul is set on building his own criminal empire across the galaxy and that means battling rival villains, dodging the Jedi, and trying to take on a new apprentice.

Right from the off, Maul - Shadow Lord is offering a darker and more dangerous take on Star Wars than most of the other animated series in the franchise. It's good stuff, with a dynamic aesthetic and some compelling twists and turns. The 10-part season is dropping two new episodes each week until May 4.

Big Mistakes (Netflix)

Schitt's Creek star Dan Levy and Rachel Sennott are behind this very funny new crime comedy. It follows two hapless siblings who accidentally stumble into the world of organized crime. As well as acting as showrunner, Levy stars as small-town pastor Nicky, whose sister Morgan (Taylor Ortega) steals a bracelet and gets on the wrong side of some very bad people. Chaos ensues.

The premise is daft, but there's a lot of laughs to be had here, with Levy and Ortega making for a great comic duo and Laurie Metcalf's Linda stealing the show as the siblings' overbearing mother. The full eight episode first season is streaming now.

The Boys season 5

The Boys returns for its much-anticipated fifth and final season. With Homelander (Antony Starr) having seized control of the world, it's up to Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and The Boys to take him down – whatever the cost. That may even mean resorting to using a virus that could wipe out every Supe on Earth...

OK, so that last bit feels slightly unlikely, if only because we know that there are more spin-offs to come. Even so, there's no doubting that this is the end of an era for one of the best shows of the last few years. The first two episodes are streaming from April 8, with the rest rolling out weekly. We're going to miss it when it's gone.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2

Return to Freddy Fazbear's Pizza with this horror sequel. Five Nights at Freddy's 2 delves deeper into the lore of the franchise, going back in time to show us the first killing at the pizzeria, while also catching up with Abby (Piper Rubio), Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail), and Mike (Josh Hutcherson) as they try to move on with their lives. But evil forces still stir and it's not long before they're back on animatronic battling duties.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 did great business at the box office, but got some fairly negative reviews. Where will you stand on it? There's only one way to find out, and that's by watching the video game adaptation for yourself.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord

It feels like it's been a minute since the last Star Wars show. Maul – Shadow Lord picks up with the former Sith (he ditched the "Darth" bit a while back) Maul (voiced once again by Sam Witwer) after the Clone Wars as he tries to forge a new criminal empire. Standing in his way, however, is an array of threats that are even more deadly than he is.

This 10-episode season (the first two parts are already streaming now on Disney Plus) gives us a great insight into this fearsome foe, while still keeping him fundamentally a menacing mystery. We know how Maul's story ends, thanks to Star Wars: Rebels, but Maul – Shadow Lord shows us how he lived.

Pizza Movie

Stranger Things' Gaten Matarazzo stars alongside Kim Possible's Sean Giambrone in this new comedy. Jack (Matarazzo) and Montgomery (Giambrone) are college roommates who stumble upon a stash of a new, experimental drug known as M.I.N.T.S., which delivers violent hallucinations. The only way to counteract the drug is by eating pizza – but to get to that they have to navigate their college while dealing with the surreal and disorientating effects of the drug.

Yes, the premise sounds as cheesy as a 12" quattro stagioni, but Pizza Movie is actually a lot of fun, with some great gags and winning performances from Matarazzo, Giambrone, and Lulu Wilson. Worth a watch, but stock up on snacks first so you don't get the munchies.

The Testaments

The Handmaid's Tale ended last year after six seasons set in the repressively patriarchal regime of Gilead. This spin-off is inspired by Margaret Atwood's 2019 sequel novel takes place several years after the events of the original series. Two young teens, Agnes (played by One Battle After Another's Chase Infiniti) and Daisy (Lucy Halliday) are students at Aunt Lydia's (the great Ann Dowd) prep school for future wives. Lydia is aware of the injustice of Gilead and is working to try and change the system from within. Will these three women work together to bring a tyrannical system down?

Described as a coming-of-age story, The Testaments looks like a fresh take on Atwood's bleak world. The first three episodes (of 10) arrive on Hulu on April 8.

Thrash

This survival thriller looks like a lot of gnarly fun! Written and directed by Violent Night's Tommy Wirkola, Thrash sees a category 5 hurricane devastate a coastal town – but that's only the start of the nightmare. Washed into town are a lot of hungry sharks! Fighting for their lives are pregnant Lisa (played by Bridgerton's Phoebe Dynevor), and marine researcher Dr. Dale Edwards (Djimon Hounsou), who may just be the answer to saving the town.

Yes, this sounds a bit like a classier take on Sharknado – and we're here for that! Thrash looks like a well-judged mix of disaster and monster movie that's just the thing for a good Friday night in.

Chris Hemsworth plays an infamous jewel thief in this cool new thriller from director Bart Layton. Hemsworth stars as Mike Davis, a career criminal who is nevertheless careful to make sure that he avoids violence in his robberies. When a $3 million diamond heist goes wrong, however, he comes into contact with Ormon (Barry Keoghan), a ruthless biker who does not share Mike's concerns for life. Also on his trail is LAPD Detective Lou Lubesnick (Mark Ruffalo).

Despite its starry cast, Sadly Crime 101 was not a hit when it was released in theaters back in February. That's a shame, as it's really rather good. Now that it's streaming on Prime Video, expect Crime 101 to find its audience.

Wayne's World (Peacock)

It's perhaps hard to grasp these days just how big a deal Wayne's World was in the '90s. The comedy was a proper pop culture phenomena and the film that made Mike Myers a star. Wayne Campbell (Myers) and Garth Algar (Dana Carvey) are a pair of dopey metal heads and the hosts of a public-access TV show, which they film in the basement of Wayne's parents' house. Wayne meets and falls in love ("Schwing!") with Cassandra (Tia Carrere), the vocalist in local band Crucial Taunt, but can he win her heart when sleazy TV producer Benjamin Kane (Rob Lowe) crashes into their lives?

Both the classic original film and its slightly lesser, but still very entertaining, sequel are now streaming on Peacock. Time to reacquaint yourself with Wayne and Garth or get to know them for the first time.

Mad Men star Jon Hamm is the handsome, rogue-ish lead in this slick crime caper. He plays Andrew "Coop" Cooper – a wealthy hedge fund manager unexpectedly fired from his job. Trying to save face and keep up his lavish lifestyle, Coop turns to stealing from his neighbors – and gets embroiled in all manner of chaos as he stumbles upon some deadly secrets.

Season 2 introduces a new threat to Coop: X-Men star James Marsden is joining the cast as Owen, a mysterious character who looks set to upend Coop's world. Will he be friend or foe? You'll have to check out the new season, which starts on April 3, to find out.

Daredevil: Born Again season 2

The second season of Daredevil: Born Again has gotten off to a killer start. Two new episodes landed on Disney Plus earlier this week and things are really starting to pick up speed. While Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) searches high and low for Matt/Daredevil (Charlie Cox), forces conspire to try and bring the evil Kingpin down. Still, he maintains an iron grip on New York City thanks to his brutal Anti-Vigilante Task Force.

It's still early days, but Daredevil: Born Again's second season is already building up a head of steam and there's the sense that things are about to really kick off in Hell's Kitchen. Now's the time to get caught up with one of the best MCU projects of recent years.

Bloodhounds season 2 (Netflix)

Bloodhounds is a brilliant and often brutal South Korean boxing drama that debuted back in 2023. The series follows two prizefighters, Gun-woo (Woo Do-hwan) and Woo-jin (Lee Sang-yi), who got involved in a dangerous battle with the criminal underworld. Having defeated a group of ruthless loan sharks in the first season, Gun-woo is now focused on building his career as a boxer, with help from Woo-jin who is working as his trainer. Their eyes are set on an underground international boxing league, with a cash prize worth billions at stake. But with big money comes even bigger threats...

The second season of Bloodhounds looks like the show has taken a real step up with more danger and drama than before. Check the series out if you're into intense dramas – this one is a knockout.

St. Denis Medical season 1 (Netflix)

If The Pitt is a bit too stressful then the first run of this NBC medical sitcom, from the team behind Superstore, might be the show for you. St Denis Medical is an Office-style mockumentary following the overworked and underpaid doctors and nurses in the titular hospital in Oregon. Some of these include supervising nurse Alex (Allison Tolman), vain trauma surgeon Bruce (Josh Lawson), and cynical elderly physician Ron (David Alan Grier).

This first run of St. Denis doesn't quite match Scrubs at its peak, but it has a lot of promise and a lot of laughs. Season one is hitting Netflix just as season two is wrapping up on NBC. A third run has already been commissioned.

We don't normally tend to theme these lists of the best new shows and movies, but one has naturally emerged from the curious number of animal-themed horror movies that are hitting the streaming services this week. Anaconda, Primate, and Bambi: The Reckoning: all three of these films bring a dose of chaos and carnage to the screen.

But if marauding monsters aren't your sort of thing, don't worry. There's also the return of Apple TV's brilliant Your Friends & Neighbors, as well as new whodunnit series If It's Tuesday, It's Murder, and action film Pretty Lethal, which sets a ballet troupe against a gaggle of gangsters (that's the official collective noun).

Anaconda

Remember 1997's Anaconda starring Ice Cube and J-Lo? If the answer is "no" then you're not alone, but that's kind of the joke here. Jack Black stars as Doug McCallister, a wannabe director who, with his actor friend Griff (Paul Rudd), decides to reboot this apparently beloved z-list franchise. They hire a big snake and head out into the Amazon Rainforest to shoot a low budget reboot. What could possibly go wrong?

Turns out, everything! It's not long before the gang find themselves in trouble with illegal gold miners and a much bigger, much nastier snake. Tom Gormican's film is as daft as can be, but it's decent fun with a few big laughs from Black, Rudd, and a reliably scene-stealing Steve Zahn.

Your Friends and Neighbours season 2

The second season of this very entertaining and darkly comic thriller reunites us with Andrew "Coop" Cooper (Jon Hamm), a wealthy financier who is stealing from his rich neighbors after losing his job. In season one he was framed for the murder of his occasional lover Sam's (Olivia Munn) husband Paul. He's been cleared of that now, but Coop's problems are only just beginning...

The official logline for season 2 reveals that, "the arrival of a new neighbour threatens to expose his secrets and place his family at risk." Enter James Marsden as Owen Ashe, a mysterious new character who is said to be a "chaos agent". The new 10-episode season starts on Friday.

Pretty Lethal

This new action thriller follows a Los Angeles ballet troupe, led by Maddie Ziegler's Bones, who wind up in trouble when their bus breaks down in a forest in Hungary. They take shelter at the Teremok Inn, which is run by the famous prima ballerina Devora Kasimer (Uma Thurman). But what initially looks like a sanctuary is quickly revealed to be something far more sinister. Soon the girls are fighting for their lives against deadly gangsters.

Directed by Vicky Jewson, Pretty Lethal is a dynamic mix of bloodshed and ballet. The premise is daft, but there's a lot of fun to be had here, with suitably balletic and explosive action scenes.

Primate

It's clearly the week for old school creature features! Primate plays things far more seriously than the tongue-in-cheek Anaconda, but it's also by far the better of the two films. In it, chimpanzee Ben (intimidatingly played by Miguel Torres Umba) contracts rabies and goes on a feral rampage. His owners and college student Lucy Pinborough (Johnny Sequoyah) must try to survive while trapped inside a high tech house with the bloodthirsty ape.

Yes, Primate is, effectively, a slasher movie with a chimpanzee, rather than a human killer. It's as gruesome and visceral as you'd hope and there's a real charm to a film that offers back to basic thrills with maximum efficiency.

If It's Tuesday, It's Murder

This new Spanish-language murder mystery is ideal for whodunnit fans. A group of tourists find themselves in a faded hotel in Lisbon. When one of them is found dead, four of the gang – all confirmed mystery addicts – band together to work out how the person died and if one of their group might be a killer.

Yes, this looks like the perfect cozy crime show to fill that Only Murders in the Building-shaped gap in your life. Shot entirely on location in Lisbon, the new seven-episode series is rolling out weekly from March 31 on Disney Plus.

Bambi: The Reckoning

Yes really. Completing our trifecta of killer creature features this week is this horror riff on the classic (and now out of copyright) character. In Bambi: The Reckoning – fair play, that's a banger title – the loveable deer is reinvented as a blood-crazed killer seeking revenge on humanity after he is mutated into a marauding monster.

If you've seen any of the previous entries in the Twisted Childhood Universe franchise (which started with 2023's threadbare Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey) you'll know what to expect here: gore, cheap effects, and some questionable acting. This feels the most like a "proper" film, though, with some memorably grizzly kills and amusing moments.

This killer chimpanzee movie from writer/director Johannes Roberts has a deliciously simple premise: a wealthy family's adopted pet Ben – a highly intelligent chimpanzee – contracts rabies and goes on a violent rampage. College student Lucy (Johnny Sequoyah) and her family must try to survive as it marauds around their home.

Yes, this is effectively a slasher movie with a chimpanzee rather than a serial killer – and it's an effective one too. Ben is played by Miguel Torres Umba in a chimp suit, rather than created with CGI, and that lends the horror of the attacks a real physicality. If you want a short (the film clocks in at just 89 minutes), sharp shock, then Primate may be the film for you this weekend.

Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice (Hulu)

This Hulu original time travel comedy gives us a double-dose of Vince Vaughn. He plays Nick, a gangster who travels back in time by six months to the night where his colleague Mike (James Marsden) is murdered, in an attempt to save him. The trouble is, that will mean crossing paths with himself, as well as a mysterious cannibal assassin known as The Baron.

This looks like a fun blend of the gangster, sci-fi, and comedy genres. Vaughn and Marsden are usually good value, as is Eiza González as Alice, the woman with whom both men are romantically embroiled. Can the three – or rather four – of them survive the most dangerous night of their lives?

Sentimental Value (Hulu)

This terrific drama from director Joachim Trier was one of the Best Picture nominees at this year's Oscars, and star Stellan Skarsgård won the Best Supporting Actor award at the Golden Globes. It's easy to see why. Despite the title, which perhaps implies a degree of schmaltz, this is a nuanced character drama with world-class performances from its cast.

Film director Gustav Borg (Skarsgård) returns to Norway to take back the house he lost in his divorce to his late wife, Sissel. He hopes to reconcile with his estranged daughters, Agnes (Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas) and Nora (Renate Reinsve), but his alcoholism and bitter temperament make that a difficult proposition. Tempers flare, egos clash, but Sentimental Value finds redemption in its cast of troubled characters.

Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen (Netflix)

Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers are teaming up with showrunner Haley Z. Boston for this intriguing horror miniseries. Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen follows a couple, Rachel (Camila Morrone) and Nicky (Adam DiMarco), as they prepare for their wedding day. Nicky takes Rachel to meet his parents at their secluded cabin in the woods (oh oh...), where things take a very dark and sinister turn.

Part relationship drama, part nerve-shredding horror, this eight-episode series looks very promising. Netflix has kept the precise details of exactly what very bad things are going to happen in the show secret, but we can't wait to find out.

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 (Disney Plus)

Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) is back in action as Daredevil, for the second season of this superhero revival. Daredevil has always stood slightly apart from the rest of the MCU in its tone: this is a darker, tougher show that's a far cry from the bright and hopeful tone of most of the franchise.

Daredevil: Born Again season one had a lot of promise, but was undermined by the challenging circumstances of its creation (several episodes were throwbacks to a previous, much lighter iteration of the show that was abandoned mid-production). Season 2 concentrates on what this show should have been about all along: the compelling war between Murdock and the villainous Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) for the soul of the city.

For All Mankind season 5 (Apple TV)

One of the best Apple TV shows returns for its fifth year. For All Mankind is a fascinating, cerebral sci-fi show that imagines a world where history followed a very different course: one where the Soviets won the space race. In season 5, the colony on Mars is thriving, but that doesn't mean that humanity's troubles are over, as tensions between Earth and the Red Planet are heating up.

Fans will need no further encouragement to dive into this new run, which has recently been confirmed as the show's penultimate series. Everyone else, head back to the beginning and get lost in one of the best sci-fi shows currently streaming.

The new season of Daredevil: Born Again is leading the pack, taking us back to a New York City that's still under threat from Kingpin. Daredevil: Born Again season 2

The bruising Marvel show returns for a dark and thrilling second run. The villainous Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) has seized control of New York City and Matt (Charlie Cox) and Karen (Deborah Ann Woll) have been forced to fight back from the shadows. Can Daredevil finally bring the Kingpin down?

We enjoyed Born Again's first year, but there was little doubt it was a show that suffered from a few behind-the-scenes issues, which led to a slightly choppy arc. Season 2 feels much more assured, offering a run of episodes as visceral and intense as the show's original Netflix run.

Wicked: For Good

The second half of this mega-popular fantasy musical wraps up the story of Glinda (Ariana Grande) and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), two rival witches turned best friends who are now divided because of the machinations of the corrupt Wizard of Oz. Elphaba is on the run but has plans to strike back against the Wizard and clear her name.

Wicked: For Good may not pack quite as much punch as its first half (and it certainly doesn't have any songs that are the match of 'Defying Gravity' from the first film), but it's a satisfying and touching conclusion to the story, with a few neat surprises and some unexpected twists on the Oz lore.

Something Very Bad is Going to Happen

A wedding goes very wrong indeed in this new horror series from showrunner Haley Z. Boston, and executive producers the Duffer Brothers – that's right, the Stranger Things guys.

Nicky (Adam DiMarco) and Rachel (Camila Morrone) are planning to get married. Nicky suggests that they head to his parents' vacation cabin in the woods – a sentence that should immediately set the alarm bells ringing – when things take a strange turn. Nick's in-laws are a bunch of weirdoes, the house is a sinister pile, and Rachel starts to suspect she may have made a very bad choice in saying yes to Nicky. It's safe to say that this looks like a creepy new take on the relationship drama.

Mercy

Chris Pratt stars in this new sci-fi movie from director Timur Bekmambetov. He plays LAPD Detective Chris Raven in a future where artificial intelligence judges are used to try defendants for violent offenses. Raven is a staunch defender of this controversial system – until he is accused of murdering his wife Nicole, that is. Now he has only has 90 minutes to prove his innocence to AI Judge Maddox or he'll be executed.

Mercy is riffing on similar themes to several beloved previous movies – notably Robocop and Minority Report. It's not a patch on either of those bangers, but it's timely, using zeitgeisty themes like the ubiquity of doorbell camera footage, to tell an intriguing sci-fi thriller.

For All Mankind season 5

With Foundation, Pluribus, and For All Mankind Apple TV has really made a name for itself as the home of smart, cerebral science fiction. For All Mankind is the longest running of these, with its fifth season starting this week. If you've not seen the show before, it takes place in a world where the Russians won the space race, leading history to take a very different path.

Each season of the show is set over the course of a decade. In the new series, we're spending a lot of time at the now well-established Happy Valley colony on Mars. Conflict is brewing with Earth, however, leading to ever-escalating tension. This is gripping, intelligent TV.

BTS: The Return

This documentary offers an inside look at the world's biggest boyband as they work to complete their first full-group album in four years, ARIRANG. BTS: The Return starts in mid-2025, several weeks into the band's two-month stay in Los Angeles where they recorded the album (their first since the band took a hiatus because of their mandatory military enlistment) before moving to Seoul where it was completed.

Directed by Bao Nguyen, The Return is focused on the real work of creativity, detailing the evolution of the songs and the many different takes they go through as the band try to make a great album. Because of that there's much to admire in this compelling documentary, even if you're not a hardcore fan of the band.

Is This Thing On? (Hulu)

Will Arnett and Laura Dern stars in this enjoyable comedy-drama, directed by Bradley Cooper. Arnett stars as Alex, a middle-aged man who is divorcing his wife Tess (Dern). The former-couple have two sons and are grappling with how to parent them while living separately. While all this is going on, Alex discovers an unexpected passion for stand-up comedy, and Tess returns to coaching volleyball – a passion she had previously been forced to abandon. As they find themselves, might they also find each other once more?

There's a lot of charm to this warm comedy – enough that, for a while, it looked like it might turn out to be an Oscar contender. Alas, that was not to be. Still, now that it's on Hulu, it's well worth your time.

Wicked For Good (Peacock)

The second part of this blockbusting fantasy musical arrives on Peacock on March 20. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande return as witches Elphaba and Glinda. At the end of the first movie, Elphaba had been demonized as the supposed "Wicked Witch of the West" and forced to go on the run (or on the broom, we suppose). Now she is determined to bring the real villain – Jeff's Goldblum's charming but venal Wizard of Oz – down, once and for all.

By now you probably have a good idea if this is your sort of thing or not. Most fans will agree that it's not as strong as the first film and there are certainly no songs to match 'Defying Gravity'. Even so, it brings the story of Glinda and Elphaba to a satisfying, moving, and at times even quite scary, end.

The Plastic Detox (Netflix)

Netflix is clearly out to scare us this week – and perhaps with good reason. As well as the historical horror of Radioactive Emergency (see below), the streamer has released this fascinating documentary about the way that plastic has infiltrated our lives and bodies. It explores the effects of daily exposure to microplastics and the chemicals that are commonly used in plastics by tracking several couples who are struggling with infertility. If they manage to go on a plastic detox, will that improve their chances of conceiving?

While this documentary, from directors Josh Murphy and Louie Psihoyos, is certainly troubling, it's also enlightening and the sort of film that will make you want to change your lifestyle immediately. Essential viewing.

Invincible season 4 (Prime Video)

The fourth run of this edgy animated superhero series picks up in the wake of season 3's devastating, city-toppling finale. Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) continues his mission to try protect the world – by any means necessary – but he's still grappling with the aftershocks of his encounters with Angstrom and Conquest. Meanwhile threats old and new are stirring...

Invincible continues to be a superhero show like few others. It uses the animated medium to push the genre into places that live action shows can't, or won't, go. The first three episodes are out now, with the rest of the season rolling out weekly on Prime Video until April 22.

The Madison (Paramount Plus)

The latest TV show from the ever-prolific Taylor Sheridan may not be set in the Yellowstone universe, but it's clearly a part of his familiar vision. The Madison stars Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell as Stacy and Preston Clyburn, wealthy New Yorkers who move out to the Madison River Valley in Montana in the wake of a family tragedy. They want to start again, but life has a way of throwing new challenges at you and it's not going to be easy.

This six-episode series is a quieter affair than some of Sheridan's other shows, but it is rich with emotion. Also a part of the impressive cast are Lost star Matthew Fox and Beau Garrett.

Radioactive Emergency (Netflix)

This five-part thriller is the stuff of nightmares. When thieves steal a radiotherapy machine from an abandoned hospital, and break the machine open to sell as scrap, they find a glowing substance that makes everybody who handles it fall ill. Doctors investigate the strange plague and quickly realize that it has been caused by Cesium-137 – deadly radioactive waste.

Based on real events that happened in Brazil in 1987, this is truly unsettling stuff. The accident proved to be the worst non-nuclear radioactive emergency in recorded history, with thousands needing to be tested for radiation poisoning. A gripping depiction of a real life horror.

This sequel movie to the hit British thriller series sees Cillian Murphy don Tommy Shelby's iconic flat cap one last time. The TV show ended with Shelby leaving Birmingham behind, seemingly forever. The Immortal Man is set a few years later, during World War II, and sees him haunted by the past and forced to return to the city for a final reckoning.

Film sequels to TV shows can be a hit and miss affair, but The Immortal Man satisfies by doing right by its characters. Thrilling and emotional, it's a fine cap to the original Peaky Blinders – just in time for the show to be relaunched with a new generation of characters later this year.

The Madison

Taylor Sheridan's TV empire continues to grow... The Madison follows the Clyburn family, lead by Michelle Pfeiffer's Stacy and Kurt Russell's Preston. Following a devastating tragedy the couple relocate their family from New York to Montana's Madison River to start again, hoping for a fresh start, but things are rarely that simple...

Despite the Montana setting, The Madison is not a Yellowstone spin-off. This standalone six episode first season is being released in two batches of three, making this an easy binge-watch. Three episodes are out now, with the final three landing on March 21.

Roofman

Channing Tatum stars in this fascinating and witty true story about the life of Jeffrey Manchester, an ex-Army Ranger who became notorious in the 1990s after he robbed scores of McDonald's and other fast-food restaurants by drilling through their roofs – hence the film's unusual title. It's a bizarre, stranger-than-fiction tale that also included a period where he secretly lived inside a branch of Toys "R" Us.

Directed by Derek Cianfrance, Roofman is a warm-hearted film, with Tatum offering a layered depiction of its troubled protagonist.

The Comeback season 3

Lisa Kudrow returns as Valerie Cherish in the belated third and final season of this comedy. Valerie is the former star of beloved sitcom who is trying to find her way back to success after decades in the weeds. When she lands a promising new role she agrees to let her return to TV be documented by a reality show called The Comeback.

The first season of The Comeback aired all the way back in 2005, with season 2 following it in 2014. Eight years later and we're getting our final chance to hang out with Valerie and the buzz on the early episodes is super strong. The season starts on HBO Max on March 22.

Radioactive Emergency

This Brazilian drama is inspired by terrifying real-life events. In 1987 a pair of foragers stumble upon an old radiotherapy device in an abandoned clinic. They open it up and sell it to a scrap yard, unleashing a devastating radioactive emergency in the process. Soon doctors and scientists are scrambling to contain the disaster before it claims any more lives.

Directed and written by Fernando Coimbra, with co-direction by Iberê Carvalho, this is a harrowing depiction of a nightmare scenario. If you "enjoyed" Chernobyl, this one is for you.

Dracula

Luc Besson helms this reinvention of the classic vampire novel, with Caleb Landry Jones popping in the blood-thirsty count's fangs this time around. Dracula is looking for the reincarnation of his dead wife. When he crosses paths with solicitor Jonathan Harker (Ewens Abid) and his fiancée Mina (Zoë Bleu), he realizes that she may well be the woman he has spent centuries searching for.

This version of Dracula had the slight misfortune of coming very soon after Robert Eggers' superb Nosferatu. Even so, this is a fresh take on one of the most famous stories in horror fiction.

Pluribus was one of our favorite TV shows last year. Vince Gilligan's bold science fiction series imagined a world where all of humanity, with the exception of 13 individuals, including the show's protagonist Carol Sturka (Rhea Seehorn), is absorbed into a hive mind because of an alien virus.

The show was a critical and commercial hit for Apple TV, with our Pluribus season one review calling it "easily one of the year's best and most enjoyable US dramas, and a distinctive, singular vision." It could have looked very, very different, however...

While discussing the show on a panel at SXSW on March 14, Gilligan said he initially considered that the members of the hive mind should be naked throughout the season. "We talked about [how] they didn't need to wear clothes at all, but we're not working for HBO," he added, to laughter from the audience. "But then we thought, we can't do that to all these extras."

Explaining the slightly bizarre idea further, Gilligan added, "We figured, they strictly wear clothes for protection against the sun and against cold or whatnot."

For her part, star Rhea Seehorn seemed relieved that the show didn't go down this path, saying, "Oh my God, thank you … Can you imagine … if I had to try to act with 300 naked people?"

The show's costume designer, Jennifer Bryan, was also on the panel and went further into how the clothing that the hive mind do wear in the show changed over time. "Eventually, days pass, and obviously, people have to change clothes. And then all of those mores for clothing disappear. There's no reason for them to impress you with their clothes."

Pluribus season 2 is currently in the works, though it's not expected to land this year. At an Apple TV press day in February, Gilligan noted that, "It takes a long time to come up with these episodes. We are deeper into the process at this moment than I would like, considering how few episodes we have figured out. But it takes some time, just as it did in the first season. And we appreciate everybody's patience. But it ain’t gonna be The Pitt coming back every year. I wish it would be 'cause I think that's an awesome show."

This animated sequel was last year's biggest English-language film. In Zootopia 2, Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) find evidence of a crime linked to a snake on the loose in Zootopia. That seems unlikely given that serpents have been forbidden from the animal city for many years. As the two cops investigate, they discover that not everything is as it seems and uncover a sinister plot. Is Gary De'Snake (Ke Huy Quan) a villain, or has he been set up?

If you liked the first film, then you should enjoy this, as Zootopia 2 builds on what made the first film so watchable. Given how good the first film was, though, that's no bad thing. The ideal family film to watch this weekend, it's hilarious, action-packed, and full of heart.

Nobody 2 (Netflix)

Bob Odenkirk's retired hitman Hutch is back in action in this frenetic action sequel. Although his days of killing people for the government are over, Hutch is still in debt to The Barber (Colin Salmon) – and still in the line of fire. Hutch manages to take a few days' vacation with his family at an amusement park in Plummerville, Wisconsin, but it's not long before he runs into trouble once more. Will Hutch survive long enough to save his family?

The first Nobody was a solid mix of exciting action, bone-crunching fights, and some good gags. This sequel dials up the humor a little more and is a worthy follow-up that's ideal for a Friday or Saturday night movie with friends.

Scarpetta (Prime Video)

Nicole Kidman stars in this new crime thriller series, based on the book series by Patricia Cornwell. Kay Scarpetta (Kidman) is a forensic pathologist with a fearsome intellect investigating a gruesome murder that bears some striking similarities to a case that she worked almost 30 years previously. Told across two timelines, it starts to look like Scarpetta may have got the wrong suspect back in the '90s.

Scarpetta has been a long time coming, with talents like Demi Moore, Jodie Foster, and Helen Mirren all approached at different points over the last few decades to play the lead role. This new series is finally here, thanks in part to Jamie Lee Curtis, who is both an executive producer and who plays Kay's older sister Dorothy. It's been worth the wait as this is a smart and exciting new crime show.

That Night (Netflix)

A family holiday goes very wrong in this tense thriller. Based on Gillian McAllister’s novel of the same name, That Night is set in the Dominican Republic. Sisters Elena (Clara Galle), Paula (Claudia Salas), and Cris (Paula Usero) have travelled there for a break, but when single mom Elena hits a man with her car, the three sisters panic and try to come up with a way to keep Elena out of prison. How long can they get away with it? And what will be the consequences for them?

McAllister’s novel was a hit when it was published back in 2021. All eight episodes of this gripping adaptation are available to stream right now, making this the ideal thriller to binge-watch this weekend!

One Piece: Into the Grand Line (Netflix)

The second season of Netflix's great live-action version of One Piece is finally here. As teased in the first season, the Straw Hats – that's Luffy (Iñaki Godoy), Nami (Emily Rudd), Zoro (Mackenyu), Sanji (Taz Skylar), and Usopp (Jacob Romero) – have set sail for the infamous Grand Line, a perilous region that promises new adventures and bigger dangers. Season 2 will also introduce viewers to some beloved characters from the manga and anime, including reindeer-boy Tony Tony Chopper.

So far, the live-action One Piece has been a textbook example of how to make a faithful adaptation that also has its own flavor. One Piece season 2 is telling a bigger story, but its focus is right where it should be: on these lovable characters and the talented actors portraying them.

Starfleet Academy

Starfleet Academy's first season wraps up this week with an episode that ties up the loose ends from last week's cliffhanger. Caleb Mir (Sandro Rosta) has found his long-lost mother, but the villainous Nus Braka (Paul Giamatti) and the Venari Ral have arrived and unleashed a devastating weapon that could mark the end of the Federation.

Starfleet Academy took a couple of episodes to find its feet, but we've loved the way this season has progressed. More than the previous entries in the franchise, this is a character-led show with a deliberately tighter focus. Now that the season is complete, it's the ideal time to go back to the beginning and watch the show from start to finish, and prepare for the already-filmed season 2.

Welcome back to another edition of our weekly guide to the best new shows and movies on streaming! This week features a real big hitter in the form of One Piece: Into the Grand Line. The second season of the smash hit live-action show looks bigger and better than ever, but that's not the only thing worth looking out for this week.

Romance fans will be pleased to see the return of Outlander for its eighth and final season, and there's a couple of big recent movies making their streaming debuts, too. As ever, our selections cover several of the best streaming services.

One Piece: Into the Grand Line

The manga adaptation returns for its long-awaited second season. Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) and the Straw Hats set sail for the Grand Line, a perilous realm rich with opportunity – and danger – as the quest for the legendary One Piece continues. Netflix's synopsis for the new run reveals that, "as they journey through this unpredictable realm in search of the world's greatest treasure, they'll encounter bizarre islands and a host of formidable new enemies." Exciting!

One Piece season 2 will also introduce a whole host of new characters, including fan-favorites from the manga like Dr. Kureha (Katey Sagal) and Tony Tony Chopper (Mikaela Hoover). Pleasingly, Netflix isn't separating the season as they do with many of their hit shows: all eight episodes will be available to stream from March 10.

Nobody 2

Bob Odenkirk's retired hitman Hutch Mansell returns in this entertaining sequel. Following the events of the first movie, Hutch is forced to pay off his debts to The Barber (Colin Salmon), which means taking on new assignments. Tired and worried that he's pushing his family away, however, Hutch arranges a family vacation to Plummerville, Wisconsin. Unfortunately, trouble has a way of finding him and when the family fall foul of a corrupt local sheriff played by Colin Hanks, Hutch has to call on his skills once more...

Nobody 2 is every bit as cartoonishly violent as the first film. While it doesn't feel quite as fresh as the original, Bob Odenkirk's performance is never less than charming and it's great to see Christopher Lloyd return as his father David. Good bone-crunching fun.

Rooster

Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence and producer Matt Tarses are behind this new witty new father/daughter comedy. Steve Carell stars as Greg Russo, a best-selling novelist who is struggling with the sudden end of his marriage. He takes a new job as a Writer in Residence at a college, which will allow him to spend more time with his adult daughter, Katie (Charly Clive), who works at the college as an art history professor, and also re-live his college years – with sometimes calamitous results. The show also features future The X-Files star Danielle Deadwyler, alongside Connie Britton, John C. McGinley, and more.

The 10 episode first season of Rooster has just launched on HBO Max, with new episodes airing weekly. This looks like a very promising new sitcom.

Outlander season 8

The final season of this time-travelling romance wraps up the saga of Claire Randall (Caitríona Balfe), a World War 2 nurse who somehow found herself transported back in time to 1743, where she fell for Highland warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). That was the start of a story with many twists and turns. Jamie and Claire are married now and, at the end of season 7, they discovered that their long-thought-dead daughter Faith may, in fact, be alive.

Few thought when it launched in 2014 that Outlander would run for eight seasons and 12 years. And while the show has started to show its age, it still commands a loyal audience who will be eager to see how everything wraps up.

Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret

Youthful angst, growing pains, and religious faith collide in this charming adaptation of Judy Blume's beloved novel. 11-year-old Margaret Simon (Abby Ryder Fortson) comes home from summer camp to find that her family is moving from New York City to the New Jersey suburbs. This upending of her life coincides with Margaret grappling with her uncertain religious beliefs and the everyday struggles of trying to make new friends and fit in at a very different school than the one she was used to.

Faithful to Blume's novel, while also providing more depth for the adult characters, this is a warm, witty, and genuinely moving film. Fans of Blume's work will be fully satisfied, but even if you've never read her books, you'll find a lot to enjoy here, including a charming lead performance from Abby Ryder Fortson.

Nuremberg

Rami Malek stars in this gripping psychological drama, inspired by Jack El-Hai's book The Nazi and the Psychiatrist. In the wake of Germany's surrender in World War 2, U.S. Army psychiatrist Lt Col. Douglas Kelley (Malek) travels to Luxembourg to evaluate the Nazi leaders who have been captured and held in Allied custody. One of these is Hermann Göring (Russell Crowe) who seems, initially, to be co-operating with Kelley. It's not long, however, before Kelley realizes that he is in a duel of wits with the Nazi, who is set on avoiding the hangman's noose.

Directed by James Vanderbilt, Nuremberg is a fascinating and sometimes chilling document of a pivotal moment in history. Crowe is genuinely unnerving as Göring. Anyone who knows their World War 2 history will know how this story ends, but Vanderbilt's film is a well-made and gripping dramatization all the same.

Hijack showrunner Jim Field Smith isn't quite ready to say that he'll be jumping into season 3 now that season 2 has reached its finale. But he's keeping his options open about where it could take place, including some absurd ideas and some potentially compelling ones as well.

"If Apple decide they want another bite of the Hijack cherry, the question I will always ask is, what story is there for Sam? Not, where can we do it, but why?" Smith tells Variety. "Of course, yeah, it could be on a boat. It could be on an e-bike, it could be in the back of a limo, it could be, you know, a submarine. Or it could transcend the Hijack format and it could move into a different arena. But that's what I mean. The precinct is kind of irrelevant. It's more about 'Where could Sam go?'"

Smith says he doesn't "really think so much like that" when asked if he's been brainstorming any actual plots for season 3 yet, saying that he prefers to consider whether there's a good story for lead character Sam Nelson (Idris Elba).

"I don't really think so much like that. I think more like, is there more story for Sam? It's not so much like, 'Oh, could we do it again?' Because, of course, you can do it again," Smith explains. "Do I want to do it again, that's a different conversation. Right now I've literally just delivered this season."

New movies

War Machine (Netflix)

Alan Ritchson, known for his role as Jack Reacher in Prime Video's hit action series Reacher, stars in this new action movie that will have you on the edge of your seat (at least that's what the first trailer teased). Directed by Patrick Hughes, this new Netflix film gives very strong Predator vibes, but at a bigger scale.

Also starring Dennis Quaid, Stephan James, Jai Courtney, and Esai Morales, the film is set "during the final stage of U.S. Army Ranger selection" as "an elite team’s training exercise turns into a fight for survival against an unimaginable threat." Ritchson's Ranger, codenamed '81', will have to lead his squad of trainees in a seemingly hopeless battle against some kind of giant mech of undetermined origin.

New TV shows

Young Sherlock (Prime Video)

After leading Robert Downey Jr.'s take on Sherlock Holmes in the 2009 movie and its sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, filmmaker Guy Ritchie is back once again to the world created by Arthur Conan Doyle. This time, we're going all the way back to Holmes' youth, with Hero Fiennes Tiffin starring as the beloved sleuth alongside Dónal Finn, Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, Natascha McElhone, Max Irons and Colin Firth.

Based on Andrew Lane’s spin-off book series, Young Sherlock sees the character getting disgraced after being wrapped up in a murder case that threatens his freedom. In his first-ever case as a detective, Sherlock will have to uncover a global conspiracy that will change his life forever and will set him on the path towards Baker Street.

Rooster (HBO Max)

Ted Lasso and Shrinking creator Bill Lawrence is back with another dramedy, and we can't wait to sink our teeth into it. Premiering on Sunday, Rooster stars Steve Carell, Charly Clive, Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley and Lauren Tsai, and it's set to run for ten episodes in this first season co-created by Matt Tarses.

Set on a college campus, Rooster follows a famous author (Carell) and his complicated relationship with his daughter (Clive). When her husband (Dunster) leaves her for a graduate student (Tsai) as her life unravels, her father decides to show up to help her, although instead he seems to have his own existential crisis.

The Hunt (Apple TV)

After an unexpected delay due to plagiarism allegations, The Hunt has finally premiered on Apple TV, and it's packed with action and suspense. The French six-episode series was created by Cédric Anger based on the novel Shoot by Douglas Fairbairn.

Per Deadline, the show follows Franck (Benoît Magimel) and his longtime friends as they go on one of their hunting weekend trips together. However, one Sunday, "they come across another group of hunters who start targeting them without explanation. When one of their party is shot, Franck's friends strike back, sending an attacker to the ground. Barely managing to escape, the four friends keep the event a secret. Franck tries to go back to his life as usual alongside his wife Krystel (Mélanie Laurent), but in the next few days, he starts to feel like he and his friends are being watched, or worse, tracked by hunters who are now hell-bent on revenge."

R.J. Decker (Hulu)

If you can't resist a detective series, you might want to take a look at R.J. Decker on Hulu. Inspired by Carl Hiaasen’s novel Double Whammy and written by Elementary's Rob Doherty, the ABC show sees Underworld star Scott Speedman leading the cast alongside Jaina Lee Ortiz, Bevin Bru, Kevin Rankin and Adelaide Clemens.

Per the logline, "R.J. Decker is a former newspaper photographer and ex-con who starts over as a private investigator in the colorful-if-crime-filled world of South Florida. The series follows him tackling cases that range from slightly odd to outright bizarre with the help of his journalist ex, her police detective wife and a shadowy woman from his past who could be his greatest ally… or his one-way ticket back to prison."

Frankenweenie (Disney Plus)

To celebrate the release of The Bride! in cinemas this weekend, we've decided to include a different kind of Frankenstein story on this week's list. Tim Burton's stop-motion animated film Frankenweenie takes inspiration from Mary Shelley's iconic character to tell a beautiful (and monstrous) story about the undying love of a boy for his dog.

With the voice cast including huge stars like Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Martin Landau and the late Catherine O'Hara, the film follows Victor after the unexpected loss of his beloved dog Sparky. Devastated, Victor "harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life – with just a few minor adjustments," reads the synopsis. "He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor's fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new 'leash on life' can be monstrous."

Hamnet

This haunting drama from director Chloe Zhao is easily one of the best films of the last six months – and a strong contender to take home the Best Picture award at this year's Oscars. Hamnet tells the story of Agnes (Jessie Buckley) who meets and falls in love with a young William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal). The couple start a family, but are beset by an unbearable tragedy that, the film suggests, is at the heart of one of Shakespeare's greatest works.

Both Mescal and especially Buckley deliver incredible, career-best work in a film that's also blessed with beautiful cinematography from Łukasz Żal and a stunning, immersive score from Max Richter. Hamnet is an overwhelmingly moving and powerful experience that you can experience for yourself on March 6.

Young Sherlock

This new mystery series, which features Guy Ritchie as a producer, takes us back to the early days of the world's most famous detective. In the show, Sherlock Holmes (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) is 19 years old, fresh out of a stint in prison, and now working as a porter at Oxford University. When the campus is rocked by a murder, however, the blame falls on Sherlock. As he strives to solve the mystery, Holmes will make some new friends and foes – notably one James Moriarty (Dónal Finn).

Full of action as well as deduction, this is very much in the mould of Ritchie's two Holmes movies. If you prefer your Sherlock mysteries to be a bit more on the cerebral side, then this may raise an eyebrow. For everyone else, however, it looks like rollicking great fun.

Vladimir

Author Julia May Jones adapts her own novel in this midlife crisis drama. The story follows a middle-aged English professor played by Rachel Weisz. Her character (who remains unnamed throughout) is going through a hard time at home, with her husband John (John Slattery) caught up in a misconduct scandal at work. When she meets a new colleague, a handsome young writer named Vladimir (Leo Woodall), our protagonist becomes obsessed, losing herself in fantasies that could risk both her marriage and career.

Desire, lust, and obsession are just some of the themes explored in this compelling drama. You can get obsessed for yourself when all eight episodes drop onto Netflix on March 5.

The Secret Agent

It's a great week for Oscar-nominated movies hitting streaming! The Secret Agent is another modern classic, this time a '70s-set neo-noir political thriller – though that description really doesn't do justice to this fascinating and surprising film. Armando Solimões (Wagner Moura) is a widowed scientist in a Brazil that was, at the time, in the grip of a military dictatorship. On the run, Armando moves to a refuge for political dissidents and takes on a new name.

What follows is a genuinely unpredictable tale, with director Kleber Mendonça Filho touching on comedy and horror as well as political drama. Like Hamnet, The Secret Agent has been nominated for the Best Picture award at this year's Oscars. They're two very different movies, but both worthy of your time.

Marshals: A Yellowstone Story

The latest entry into the ever-expanding Yellowstone franchise launches today! Marshals follows Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) as he joins a group of deputy U.S. Marshals. Kayce was a fan favorite in Yellowstone and he's at the front and center of the action in this exciting new series. A lot has changed in his life, with his wife Monica (Kelsey Asbille) mysteriously absent – we should find out why in the coming weeks – and his new job putting him in more danger than ever before.

Franchise creator Taylor Sheridan will not be writing for Marshals, though he remains on board as a producer. The 13-episode first season starts on Paramount Plus today and will continue to air weekly till late May. Another spin-off, The Dutton Ranch, which follows Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser), is set to arrive later in the year.

Misery

This 1990 thriller from the late, great director Rob Reiner, is one of the best Stephen King movie adaptations. James Caan plays novelist Paul Sheldon, a romance author who crashes his car in a blizzard. He is rescued by Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates, in one of her most iconic performances), a nurse who declares herself to be Sheldon's number one fan. She promises to look after him as he recovers, but it's not long before her care takes on a more sinister dimension...

Caan and Bates shine in what is, for the most part, a two-hander as Sheldon tries to escape his captor. Tense, darkly witty, and unforgettable, Misery is a '90s classic. And in her performance as Annie Wilkes, Kathy Bates, Reiner, and King created one of the great movie villains.

A project developed by Amazon MGM Studios and The Russo Brothers' production company AGBO, The Bluff is the pirate action movie you didn't know you needed and that it might surprise you this weekend. Starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Karl Urban, this R-rated film doesn't pull any punches, described by the streamer as a "gritty, adrenaline-fueled action-adventure about family, survival, and the indomitable strength of a mother’s love."

Set in the 19th century, The Bluff follows Ercell 'Bloody Mary' Bodden (Chopra), a former seafaring raider who, after escaping a violent past, has found peace in the Caribbean alongside her husband (Ismael Cruz Cordova), her son Isaac (Vedanten Naidoo) and sister-in-law Elizabeth (Safia Oakley-Green). Their idyllic existence comes to an end when a menacing captain whom Ercell worked for (Urban) shows up seeking revenge.

New TV shows

Bridgerton season 4 part 2 (Netflix)

So, will Benedict and Sophie's love rise above society conventions and class struggles? There are four new episodes ahead to find out, as part 2 of Bridgerton season 4 is now available to stream. In the first part of the season, we saw the second Bridgerton son falling for a mysterious lady in silver, and then falling again for an extraordinarily smart and fascinating maid. As viewers know, both are the same woman, and Benedict will have to defy everything he's known all his life to be with her.

Get ready for a second part packed with romantic drama, steamy moments (the bath scene is upon us!) and the return of Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley as the fan-favorite couple Anthony and Kate. And that's not all – Netflix's hit period romance will set up the next season, which will focus on yet another Bridgerton sibling.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 (Apple TV)

"To destroy a monster, it takes another monster," says Kurt Russell's elder Lee Shaw in the trailer for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2, and that's all we need to hear to know that the new episodes are going to be a kaiju fest. Kong and Godzilla are back on the screen together in the Apple TV show, and they will need all their might to face the mysterious new monster Titan X.

Per the official synopsis, season two "will pick up with the fate of Monarch – and the world – hanging in the balance. The dramatic saga reveals buried secrets that reunite our heroes (and villains) on Kong’s Skull Island, and a new, mysterious village where a mythical Titan rises from the sea. The ripple effects of the past make waves in the present day, blurring the bonds between family, friend and foe – all with the threat of a titan event on the horizon." Along with the returning cast, the show is welcoming Takehiro Hira, Amber Midthunder, Curtiss Cook, Cliff Curtis, Dominique Tipper and Camilo Jiménez Varón.

Paradise season 2 (Hulu)

It's hard to talk about Paradise season 2 without spoiling the mindblowing events of the previous season, but we're going to try for the sake of those viewers who still have to catch up with one of the most unexpected shows airing today. The Hulu series sees Sterling K. Brown starring as Xavier Collins, a secret service agent investigating the murder of a former president (played by James Marsden) in a closed community isolated from the dangers of the outside world.

In the new episodes, Xavier will need to adapt to a new reality as he meets some new major characters, played by Shailene Woodley and Thomas Doherty. Creator Dan Fogelman told fans to brace themselves for an "intense, surprising and emotional" season 2 (via EW). We have been warned.

Portobello (HBO Max)

If you're looking for a documentary to watch this weekend, you might want to take a look at HBO Max's new miniseries Portobello. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Marco Bellocchio, it's been widely praised by critics, with The Wall Street Journal calling it "television with teeth."

Based on the 2016 book Lettere a Francesca, the show takes audiences back to 1980s Italy, telling the story of the infamous miscarriage of justice involving the king of Italian television at the time, Enzo Tortora. "The Irpinia earthquake delivers the final blow to the already fragile balance of the New Organized Camorra criminal organization," reads the official synopsis. "Giovanni Pandico, a trusted friend of crime boss Raffaele Cutolo and a regular viewer of Portobello, decides to repent. Interrogated by the judges, he names an unexpected person: Enzo Tortora."

Ancient Autopsy: Mysteries of the Dead (Disney Plus)

If you are one of those viewers who love to dive into the most unusual documentaries about ancient times, we have one for you to enjoy this weekend – Ancient Autopsy: Mysteries of the Dead. Now on Disney+, the series sees Professor Suzannah Lipscomb, known for unearthing secrets of our collective past, exploring some of the greatest death mysteries of all time.

From Cleopatra to Genghis Khan, Lipscomb "uses cutting-edge science and compelling detective work to reveal the truth behind the deaths of history's most famous figures," according to the official logline.

Scrubs

Most Scrubs fans will admit that the show's original run didn't exactly end on a high. This 16-years-later revival aims to give the much-loved medical comedy the continuation it deserves. The show's creator, Bill Lawrence, is once more involved and the original trio of J.D. (Zach Braff), Turk (Donald Faison), and Elliot (Sarah Chalke) are all back and front and center, as they should be, but the show also introduces a new group of medical students for the gang to teach – when they're not goofing off, of course.

Scrubs was one of the early '00s most beloved shows and it feels good to have it back and in such fine form. Other familiar characters will be popping up over the course of a 10-episode season that seems to have found the right balance between the old and the new.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2

This brilliant Monsterverse show still feels a little bit underrated, but this bigger, bolder second season should change all that. The show follows Monarch, a research organization studying Titans, including famous monsters like King Kong and Godzilla. In season 2, however, those two icons are dwarfed by a new and even more fearsome beast that threatens everything.

All of the main cast members from season one are back, including Kurt and Wyatt Russell, both as Lee Shaw – the show takes place across two time zones. There's a grand tradition in the Godzilla and Kong movies of the two most famous titans teaming up to give the other monsters a good kicking. Is that what's going to happen here? We wouldn't bet against it...

Firebreak

This Spanish-language thriller (originally titled Cortafuego), directed by David Victori, has been picking up some serious word-of-mouth buzz over the last few days. When eight-year-old Lide (Candela Martínez) disappears in the woods, her mother Mara (Belén Cuesta) and the police set out to find her. Unfortunately, this coincides with a forest fire, which leads the police to call off their search. Determined to find her daughter, Mara must take matters into her own hands.

As Mara searches, however, it becomes clear that not everything is as it seems, in a movie that packs in the tension and the twists. Good, gripping stuff.

Bridgerton season 4, part 2

The wait to find out what happens next in Netflix's beloved historical romance was mercifully brief! The second part of Bridgerton season 4 arrives on Thursday, with four more episodes continuing the story of Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Sophie (Yerin Ha) as they embark on a tentative relationship. At the end of episode 4, Luke had proposed that Sophie become not his wife, but his mistress – something that she understandably had rather ambivalent feelings about! Will this be the end of their fairytale romance? Or will Benedict do the decent thing and propose properly?

Yes, Bridgerton continues to be as preposterous, charming, horny, and unabashedly entertaining as ever. And while this is the end for now, we already know that the show will be back for a confirmed season 5

Kiss of the Spider Woman

This musical drama stars Andor's Diego Luna as an imprisoned revolutionary named Valentin Arregui Paz. He shares his cell with window dresser Luis Molina (Tonatiuh), who has been arrested for public indecency. To help pass the time Molina re-tells the story of his favorite Hollywood musical, The Kiss of the Spider Woman. The film then cuts back and forth between Molina's fantasy re-telling of the film (lavishly produced and with a starring role for Jennifer Lopez) and the growing connection between the two very different inmates in their cell.

Kiss of the Spider-Woman was released in cinemas in October last year, where it under-performed commercially. Still, it was a critical success and will likely find a much more receptive audience on streaming. It lands on Disney Plus on February 27.

The Green Knight

Dev Patel stars in this terrific fantasy film as Gawain, a young knight embarking on a quest to face his own mortality. When a mysterious – and magical – green Knight (voiced by Ralph Ineson, who lent his booming vocals to Galactus in last year's Fantastic Four) enters King Arthur's court and challenges one of his men to land a blow on him, Gawain eagerly accepts, not realising that doing so will force him to search for the Knight in a year's time to receive a very likely fatal punishment in return.

Dreamily directed by David Lowery, The Green Knight is a haunting and elegiac musing on youth and mortality. But if that makes it sound terribly heavy, fear not: this is also a pacy, exciting film with a commanding central performance from Patel. You can see it for yourself on Netflix from March 1.

Look no further than the explosive ending of The Night Agent season 2, which saw Gabriel Basso's agent turn himself in.

In season 3, Peter Sutherland is tasked with tracking down a young Treasury Agent who fled to Istanbul with sensitive government intel after killing his boss. Per the official synopsis, this incident "kicks off a sequence of events where Peter investigates a dark money network while avoiding its paid assassins, while putting him on a collision course with a relentless journalist. Working together, they uncover buried secrets and old grudges that threaten to bring the government to its knees – and get them both killed in the process."

The Last Thing He Told Me season 2 (Apple TV)

Jennifer Garner leads the cast of Apple TV's thriller series The Last Thing He Told Me, which is coming back this weekend with new episodes and another piece of the mystery. Based on Laura Dave’s recently published sequel The First Time I Saw Him, the new season also sees the return of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Angourie Rice, with newcomers including Judy Greer and Rita Wilson.

Season 2 picks up the story after the surprising revelations of last season's finale, when Owen (Coster-Waldau) shows up five years after his mysterious disappearance. Per the logline, "Hannah (Garner) and her stepdaughter Bailey (Rice) find themselves in a race to figure out how to reunite their family before the past catches up to them."

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms finale episode (HBO Max)

The highest-rated Game of Thrones first season ever is coming to an end (for now), as the last episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms airs this Sunday. The HBO series took us back to a different Westeros, based on George R.R. Martin's Dunk and Egg tales, which are set decades before the events of Game of Thrones, and around a century after House of the Dragon.

Week by week, we've followed Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell) as they explore what it means to be an honourable knight. Blending the usual blood and violence from the Game of Thrones universe with a much more comedic and lighthearted tone, the series has been an absolute success, so make sure to be ready for the final episode of the season.

Looking for something spicy? This erotic thriller starring Dove Cameron and Avan Jogia may be what you're looking for right now. Prime Video's eight-part series 56 Days, based on Catherine Ryan Howard's novel of the same name, unravels an exciting mystery surrounded by a passionate affair, and it's an exciting addition to the genre of films like Basic Instinct and Body Double.

Per the official synopsis, the film "follows Oliver and Ciara, who, after meeting randomly in a supermarket, fall for each other fast, and dangerously hard. Fifty-six days later, homicide investigators arrive at Oliver’s apartment to find an unidentified body – brutally murdered and intentionally decomposed. Did he kill her? Did she kill him? Intercutting between an intense single day in the present investigation and the twisted trajectory of the young lovers' affair in the past, the series is both a unique crime story and a riveting, sexy, psychological thriller."

Urchin (Hulu/Disney Plus)

Harris Dickinson, who's set to star as John Lennon in Sam Mendes' upcoming biopic, debuted as a director last year with the beautifully heartbreaking film Urchin. Now available to watch on streaming, this is a must-watch with an impressive 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes and critics praising Frank Dillane's "unflinchingly authentic performance."

Set in London, the British film follows Mike, a homeless man who does whatever he can to survive day by day. "Roadside evangelizers won't let him sleep in peace, his slippery friend won't pay up the money he stole, and before long, he finds himself in trouble with the law," reads the synopsis. "As he struggles to reintegrate into society, shuffling between gigs as a line cook and a trash collector, he must balance a newfound sense of community with his own itch for self-destruction."

Written and directed by Jess Varley, The Astronaut follows astronaut Sam Walker, who has just returned from her first space mission and is placed at a high security house for rehabilitation and medical testing. However, she suspects that something is wrong when disturbing events start to happen. Is it possible that something followed her back to Earth?

Big breaking news for fans of the world's most beloved sea sponge: the latest SpongeBob Squarepants film will be making its streaming debut later this week on Paramount Plus! In the new movie, SpongeBob (voiced, as always, by Tom Kenny) and his Bikini Bottom crew set off on an all-new escapade, following the ghostly Flying Dutchman (Mark Hamill) on an adventure to the bottom of the ocean. There, SpongeBob must undertake a series of perilous trials if he wants to become a swashbuckler as brave as Mr Krabs.

Released late last year, Search For Squarepants was a critical and commercial hit. It's always a delight to hang out with these characters again, and the new movies do not disappoint. The SpongeBob Movie: Search For Squarepants swims into Paramount Plus on February 17.

The Night Agent season 3

This espionage thriller has been a huge hit for Netflix, bagging the title of 2023's most-watched series on the streamer. The Night Agent season 3 reunites us once again with Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) – an FBI agent who has found himself tangled up in a vast conspiracy. Season 2 ended with the strong likelihood that Richard Hagan (Ward Horton) would become the president of the United States, something that would result in the villainous Jacob Monroe (Louis Herthum) getting access to national secrets.

Peter was tasked by his handler, Catherine (Amanda Warren), with acting as a double-agent and infiltrating Jacob's circle, which seems to be where season 3 will kick off. The Night Agent remains as twisty, tense, and exciting as ever. All 10 episodes will be dropping onto Netflix at once on February 19, and we can't wait to see where this latest batch of episodes takes Peter.

Predator: Badlands

The latest entry in the long-running Predator franchise raised more than a few eyebrows when it hit cinemas last year thanks to its unique premise: this time around the Predator is the hero. Sacrilege! We should have had more faith in director Dan Trachtenberg, however, as this is an endlessly entertaining adventure. Dek (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi) is a young Yautja (the proper name of the Predator's species) keen to prove himself by slaying an alien monster. Along the way he teams up with a damaged Weyland-Yutani synthetic known as Thia (Elle Fanning) who is searching for her lost sibling.

With a winning double-act at its heart and some extraordinary violence (enacted not on people, but on hordes of villainous synthetics) this is arguably the most fun the franchise has been since the original movie. Great Friday night viewing.

This new Australian thriller series looks like it will be a good, tense watch. Engaged paramedic Lina Phillips (Aisha Dee) has an ill-advised one-night stand with a stranger named Dan in her friend Axel's rental property, only to discover that they have been secretly filmed. Soon, the footage is being used to blackmail her. Lina sets out to discover who is behind the plot. She naturally suspects Axel, but it quickly becomes clear that not everything is as it seems, and both Lina and her fiancé Cain (Chai Hansen) come under threat.

Watching You is inspired by J.P. Pomare's best-selling novel, The Last Guests. The twisty six-episode series debuts on Disney Plus on February 20 and will keep you guessing all the way to the finish line.

The Iron Claw

This bruising 1970s-set drama tells the melancholy true story of the Von Erich family: a troubled wrestling dynasty in Texas, who are stars in the ring, but beset by multiple tragedies. Kevin (Zac Efron, in an impressive starring role) is the oldest of four sons raised by Fritz Von Erich (Holt McCallany), himself a former wrestler turned coach who instils a need in his children to always be the toughest and never to show any vulnerability to the world, even when things go terribly wrong.

Starring alongside Efron are Jeremy Allen White, Harris Dickinson, and Lily James in a dark, heavy, but undeniably compelling drama that's of interest to more than just wrestling fans.

The Last Thing He Told Me is adapted from Laura Dave's novel of the same name. It hasn't had as much buzz as some of the other thrillers on Apple TV, but we're here for its slow burn mystery. The first episode of the new season drops on February 20 before moving to a weekly release schedule.

How To Train Your Dragon (Netflix)

This live-action remake of the classic Dreamworks animation How to Train Your Dragon was a big hit in theaters – so much so that the sequel is already in production. But before that drops in June 2027, you'll need to check out the first chapter, which is now streaming on Netflix.

Once again helmed by director Dean DeBlois, HTTYD is an incredibly faithful adaptation of the original 'toon (some might say slavishly so...) in which young Hiccup befriends fearsome Night Fury Toothless, only to change the hostile relationship between Vikings and dragons forever. Perfect family viewing.

The Pope's Exorcist (HBO Max)

If you know anything about The Pope's Exorcist, it's probably that Russell Crowe's papal demon slayer rides a little moped around the Vatican. That should be enough to sell you on this exorcism horror, but if it isn't, Crowe's dubious Italian accent, teased in the trailer above, will convince anyone that they're in for a good time.

Based on the exploits of the pope's former chief exorcist, Father Gabriele Amorth, though (we hope) heavily embellished, it's about Fr. Amorth's investigation into the possession of an American boy in Spain. It's hardly, well, The Exorcist, but this fear flick, from Overlord director Julius Avery, is a frightfully good time.

Predator: Badlands (Disney Plus)

The latest instalment in the long-running Predator franchise, Predator: Badlands is something a little different for the series. Instead of a story about a human hero being hunted by the ugliest mofo in movies, young Yautja Dek is Badlands' protagonist, and on a mission to earn his cloak by hunting the most dangerous creature in the galaxy.

Also starring Elle Fanning as a cheery Weylan-Yutani synthetic who accompanies Dek on his hunt, Badlands is a big swing that pays off, featuring some of the biggest (if not exactly bloodiest) action in the Predator series to date.

New TV shows

Cross season 2 (Prime Video)

Based on crime-writer James Patterson's best-selling Alex Cross novels, Cross season 2 is the perfect weekend binge watch if you've already wrapped up the fourth season of The Lincoln Lawyer over on Netflix.

Starring Aldiss Hodge (The Invisible Man) as the titular Washington detective, season 2 tells an original and timely Cross story about a vigilante who is hunting down corrupt billionaires. Can Cross catch the culprit before he strikes again? The second season is currently sitting on a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 90%, which is even higher than the first, making this a must-watch.

The Artful Dodger season 2 (Hulu)

The world probably didn't need a prestige TV sequel to Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist, but turns out Australian show The Artful Dodger, which sees now-doctor Jack Dawkins dragged back into a life of pickpocketing by Fagin, is a blast. And season 2 is now streaming on Hulu/Disney Plus.

Featuring the return of Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Dawkins/The Artful Dodger, and David Thewlis as Fagin, it's set some 15 years after the events of Oliver Twist, and hinges on the unrequited relationship between Dawkins and Lady Belle Fox (Maia Mitchell), the daughter of the local governor. Consider yourself well in.

The work surrounding Severance's future is mysterious and important – but the latest update from the Apple TV sensation doesn't sound promising to me.

As reported by Deadline, Apple has now acquired the rights for Severance from studio Fifth Season.

While news of IP transference might see your eyes glaze over as if you were reciting the Compunction Statement in the Break Room, talk of Severance's future plans might make you light up a little more.

According to the outlet, the plan is very much for Severance to run for 'at least' four seasons, with a fifth season unlikely at this current stage.

It's beyond that, though, where things get interesting (or worrying, depending on your perspective).

Creator Dan Erickson and executive producer/director Ben Stiller are reportedly open to expanding the Severance universe. If not quite reaching MCU levels of critical mass, there is suggestion from Deadline of prequels, spinoffs and foreign versions of the show.

Mystery box shows are always hard to keep at a high, satisfying level – just ask Lost. But the prospect of prequels and spin-offs, peeling back layers of Lumon even further, could run counter to everything that makes Severance so appealing. If everything is explained, what is there to keep coming back for? Besides, hinting at the likes of Cobel's traumatic past rather than outright following it only enriches the characters in the long run.

Still, Erickson and Stiller haven't made many creative missteps to date, so there could be a Better Call Saul-style gem just waiting to be mined from the potential franchise plans.

In the short-term, there are plans afoot to start shooting Severance season 3 this summer. After the years-long wait between Severance seasons 1 and 2, some of which stalled its early narrative momentum, that gives us fresh hope that we could return to the winding corridors of Lumon by the end of 2027.

Cross season 2

The second season of this thriller series, inspired by James Patterson's bestselling novels, reunites us with homicide detective Alex Cross. Prime Video are keeping precise details of Cross's return secret, but what we do know is that, having solved the case of the "Fanboy Killer" last season, Cross is now on the trail of a knife-wielding vigilante who appears to be targeting corrupt billionaires.

We can also expect to learn much more about Cross's partner Detective John Sampson (Isaiah Mustafa), and the arrival of several new characters, with Wes Chatham, Matthew Lillard, and Jeanine Mason all joining the cast. The first three episodes of the new season drop on February 11, with the rest of the season moving to a weekly release until March 18.

Eternity

Valentine's Day is rapidly approaching, so of course we had to recommend a new romantic comedy. Eternity, from director David Freyne, reimagines the genre as an afterlife fantasy. Larry (Miles Teller) and the terminally ill Joan (Elizabeth Olsen) have been married for decades, but it's actually Larry who dies first, choking on a pretzel. Joan eventually meets him again in the afterlife, but then finds herself forced to choose between spending an eternity with him or with her first husband, Luke (Callum Turner), who was killed in the Korean war and has been waiting for her.

Which man will Joan choose? And is there a way that all three can find a happy ending? Eternity is a sweet and charming film that's landing just before the big day, on February 13.

The 'Burbs

Remember The 'Burbs? The 1989 Tom Hanks-starring black comedy, directed by Joe Dante, followed a seemingly average family man, played by Hanks, who became convinced that his new neigbors were up to something sinister. It marks the basis for this eight episode TV adaptation starring Keke Palmer and Jack Whitehall as a young couple who move to Ashfield Place "the safest town in America." Things are inevitably not quite as they seem and it's not long before they're caught up in a murder mystery that involves a creepy old house and multiple suspects.

There's more than a dash of Only Murders in the Building about this remake, but that's no bad thing. Palmer is strong in the lead role and she's backed up by a cast of eccentric supporting characters. The series is streaming in full on Peacock now.

The Black Phone

Scott Derrickson's gripping – or should that be grabbing? – horror movie was a critical and commercial hit on its release in 2021 and launched a new franchise. Mason Thames stars as Finney, a teenage boy who is kidnapped by a serial killer called the Grabber. When an old rotary phone in the killer's lair starts ringing, however, Finney is connected with the spirits of the past victims who may be able to help him escape.

Set in the 1970s, The Black Phone is an atmospheric chiller with a retro vibe and more than a dash of classic Stephen King in it's DNA. It's also blessed with an absolutely terrifying performance from Ethan Hawke as the Grabber. If you've not yet seen the film, now is your chance, as it heads to Netflix on February 12.

The Artful Dodger season 2

Also back for a second season this week is this fun comedy adventure series, very loosely inspired by Charles Dickens' iconic character, the Artful Dodger from Oliver Twist. In 2023's first season Jack Dawkins (Game of Thrones' Thomas Brodie-Sangster) has put his old life as a pickpocket in London behind him and established a career as a promising young doctor in Australia. When Fagin (David Thewlis) comes back into his life, however, he is dragged back into the world of crime.

In season 2 Jack is being hunted by the deadly Inspector Henry Boxer (Luke Bracey), who also intends to woo Jack's love, Lady Belle (Maia Mitchell). The second season is streaming in full on Disney Plus from February 10.

Stargate SG-1

All 10 seasons of one of the '90s and '00s most beloved sci-fi shows arrive on Netflix this week. Stargate SG-1 spun off from the 1994 film, but you don't need to have seen that before watching the show. All you need to really know is that humanity has discovered a ring-shaped portal known as the Stargate, which can transport people to other worlds throughout the universe. SG-1 is the name of the team – led by Colonel Jack O'Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) and scientist Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) – who steps through the gate each week, often encountering the villainous alien Goa'uld when they do so.

With a new Stargate series currently being developed by Amazon MGM Studios, now is a great time to revisit the first TV show. Fans of Star Trek and other shows from that period will be in sci-fi heaven.

We do love a good lawyer show, and The Lincoln Lawyer is one of the best ones right now. Defense attorney Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) is back for one more case as season 4 just arrived on Netflix, and this one might change his life forever. After defending clients for years, Mickey is now forced to defend himself to escape a prison sentence.

As viewers might remember from the season 3 finale, the dead body of Mickey’s former client Sam Scales (Christopher Thornton) was discovered in the trunk of his iconic car. Now, he has to prove his own innocence and preserve his reputation, which won't be easy as he faces the very talented and relentless prosecutor Dana Berg (Constance Zimmer).

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 4 (HBO Max)

If you're not watching A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, you are missing one of the best shows of 2026, and a surprising spin on the Westeros formula. While Game of Thrones and the prequel House of the Dragon are all blood, war and serious business, this new show based on the novels by George R.R. Martin brings some much-needed comedy and lightheartedness to the franchise.

The highest-rated first season of the Game of Thrones franchise, the series follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell) as the former tries to become a respected knight and the latter escapes his troubled family. Shrinking season 3 episode 2 (Apple TV Plus)

Shrinking returned last week to our screens, and we couldn't be happier. The Apple TV show is a fan favorite for a reason, and this is your reminder to catch up with it now that the second episode is available to stream. Co-created by lead star Jason Segel, Ted Lasso's Brett Goldstein and Bill Lawrence, the new episodes will add Jeff Daniels and Michael J. Fox to the line-up.

With Harrison Ford also back as therapist Paul Rhoades, the new season follows the previous installments' studies about grief and forgiveness, with the story now focusing on how to move forward. In the first trailer, we saw Jimmy struggling to let himself find love and be loved again, while Gaby is feeling stuck and Alice navigates college.

Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes (Hulu)

The Planet of the Apes franchise came back to life in 2024 with great success, as the new film reignited fans' love for the story. Now that it's available to stream on Hulu, Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes is the perfect weekend watch as we wait for a potential sequel. And if you're brave enough to do a movie marathon with the entire saga (a total of 10 movies), be our guest.

Set almost 300 years after the events of 2017's War for the Planet of the Apes, the film sees feral young woman Mae (The Witcher's Freya Allan) team up with young chimpanzee Noa (Owen Teague) to thwart the plans of tyrannical ape leader known as Proximus Caesar (Abigail's Kevin Durand), who has twisted the legendary Caesar's teachings and enslaved a bunch of chimpanzees in his hunt for the last traces of human technologies.

Harrison Ford says he wouldn't mind if his career ended after his time on the Apple TV comedy-drama Shrinking, which he calls a "very special" and nurturing experience.

"Where do you go from here? The kind of work that we’re able to do is remarkable given the tools we have to work with, and the notion that lies behind this series," Ford said during an Apple TV press day panel (via The Hollywood Reporter). "And if it was all over here, that would be sufficient. This has been a different kind of job for me, and I’ve been doing this for a long time. This is very special and it really nurtures me and makes me feel like what we’re doing has value and importance. I look for that in my life, and I’m happy to have found it here."

The series stars Jason Segel as Jimmy, a grieving and recently widowed therapist who starts to drop the "therapy speak" and start telling his clients exactly what he thinks (which is, uh, more or less unethical). Ford plays fellow therapist and colleague Paul, with whom he has quite the up-and-down relationship. The series was created by Segel, Ted Lasso showrunner and co-creator Bill Lawrence, as well as writer and Roy Kent star Brett Goldstein. The cast includes Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Michael Urie, Luke Tennie, Lukita Maxwell, and Ted McGinley.

Ford started his career back in 1964, and became a global phenomenon thanks to his role as Han Solo in 1977's Star Wars. He would go on to become action-adventure hero Indiana Jones, and star in the Blade Runner film franchise. Since Shrinking's premiere in 2023, Ford has received several accolades, including his first-ever Emmy nomination. A fourth season was announced last month.
