Cruz Pirates role exposed

Back in February, we discovered that Penelope Cruz would be bringing a touch of the exotic to the upcoming fourth high-seas Pirates Of The Caribbean film, subtitled On Stranger Tides .

But the details of her involvement have been kept under wraps since then.

Now, producer Jerry Bruckheimer has revealed who she will be playing. Talking to MTV , he said: “She plays the daughter of Blackbeard. She’s the daughter of the bad guy. She brings a lot of humor to it. And the fact that she’s so feisty.”

Feisty she is, and funny when she tries (check out Vicky Cristina Barcelona ). There’s not much of a family resemblance between her and Ian ‘Blackbeard’ McShane, though – we’re guessing the pirate kept warm with a woman from Italian climes one dark and stormy night.

As well as that, Bruckheimer revealed that there will be “a little romance between Captain Jack and the character that Penelope plays”, meaning we’ll get to see how Cap’n Jack works his charms on the female breed. Or not...

Finally, we also learned that Geoffrey Rush will be returning to the series as Barbossa, Jack’s former adversary and lynchpin of the series thus far. So, even if this fourth adventure turns out to be as bloated as its predecessors, the cracking cast should give us enough starlight for our money.

Will you be checking out On Stranger Tides ?
