It's the most wonderful time of the year. No, not Christmas - it's November, when all the Black Friday Nintendo deals start to arrive, and we get to enjoy actual savings on Switch consoles, games, and accessories. Nintendo isn't known for discounting its prices very often, so Black Friday really is the best time to grab a deal or two on all things Switch. While Black Friday doesn't actually start until November 23, you can expect many retailers - like Amazon, Walmart, eBay, and Argos - to start offering great prices far earlier than that. We've already found a handful of good Black Friday deals on both Switch bundles and Switch games and accessories.
You can now grab Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for $44.99 (down from $59.99), and Super Mario Odyssey for $48.99 (down from $58.88). Those are pretty good savings on two of Switch's best games. Walmart is offering $11 off a pair of official Joy-Cons, but that offer may be gone now. You do have to act pretty fast with Black Friday Nintendo deals, because they're seriously popular and will sell out quick. This year we're expecting the Switch itself to sell for less than $299 / £279, so you'll need to be on the ball for those deals. The best way to catch them is to bookmark this page. And if you're looking for more bargains, here is our guide to all the Black Friday game deals for 2018.
While the Black Friday Nintendo deals have indeed started, it's still tricky to find a cheap Switch or Switch bundle. Right now accessories and games are leading the charge. You can still get the Nintendo Switch + Fortnite bundle at Amazon.com for $299, which includes 1000 Vbucks. That's a decent price, considering the Switch is $299 on its own. You're getting a nice bump for Fortnite included. However, you should expect to see more savings on Switch as Black Friday itself rolls in. If you're in the UK, the best current deal on Switch is John Lewis, who are selling the basic Nintendo Switch console for £279, and offering a 2 year guarantee. Below are all the best console-only deals for your region.
Of course, Nintendo has recently launched the Pokemon bundles, and is waiting to release the Smash Bros. bundles in December. So, they'll be counting on these games to sell consoles during Black Friday. The Pokemon bundle is sold out everywhere, so if you find one and fancy playing the game, you should buy at full price, because you won't see any savings on that one.
The bundles you'll likely see on offer next week are ones that include older games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey. You should be able to pick up a Switch + a game like MK8 for around $299 / £279 (Walmart has that, but it's currently out of stock). And some retailers will likely cut the core price of the console by about 5%, making it $280 / £265 respectively. But don't expect massive savings anywhere. Here are the best Nintendo Switch bundle deals available right now.
At least the Black Friday Nintendo game deals should be good. We've already got decent savings on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey at Walmart, and you should see decent savings on other first-party titles like Mario Tennis Aces, Mario Party, and - maybe - Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Notoriously, Zelda holds its value, so retailers probably won't offer huge savings on the gorgeous, open-world RPG. Other games that should see massive savings are Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle (Target has it at $25), Rayman Legends, and maybe even the newly launched Starlink.
Don't expect to see savings on Pokemon, sadly, as it has only just launched and fans have to have it, at any price. FIFA 19 is going cheap on all other consoles, so you should be able to pick that up for less, along with NBA 2K19 - both cracking sports games. Octopath Traveller is ripe for a discount too, as it launched in July, and demand is still high for it. Wouldn't be surprised to see it hit $39 / £35.
What about accessories? Well, the current best deal on that kind of thing is that there's an official Switch portable charger for sale with 50% off at Very.co.uk - nothing on the US side yet, but it's early days.
What other deals will you be able to pick up? The most obvious one is Nintendo Switch SD cards - memory is something that is ALWAYS reduced on Black Friday, so if you need a new SD card to store your games, I'd advise waiting for November, if you can. Nintendo Switch accessories - like chargers, wheels, and other stuff will undoubtedly drop in price. Don't expect to see Nintendo Switch controllers cheap, though, as they're all official, and Ninty don't like to discount much. Shame.
And if you're in the market for it, you'll definitely be able to pick up one of the best cases for Nintendo Switch for less. Why? Because the third-party cases are actually better than the official ones, and they're more likely to be reduced. Will Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions see discounts? Unlikely, but possible.
Not that you need it, but 4K TVs always go on sale during Black Friday, so if you're looking for a new set and you have one of the other 4K consoles, November is the best time to upgrade your viewing.
Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals - when will they happen?
The official day of Black Friday 2018 itself is November 23. But that's really more of a suggestion now, rather than a date for when the actual deals kick off. Expect the main Black Friday Nintendo deals to begin around November 16, and run until about November 30. It's more like a two week period nowadays.
What is Black Friday? Well, in case you didn't know, it's a global online shopping event, where all the major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, NewEgg, and Argos drop their prices. There are several reasons for this - they want to sell more stuff and clear out the old stock ahead of a new year, and you're more likely to buy because you're looking for a bargain or two ahead of Christmas. It started in actual, physical stores, but Black Friday is now very much an online-focused event. You can buy anything from hats to hampers in the sales, but we're obviously focused on gaming and tech.
So, should I even wait for Black Friday?
Well, that's entirely your choice. If you're looking to buy an actual Switch console, and get a bundle, then yes - you should wait. You'll be able to get the console + a game for less than you would buying them separately, and you'll probably get a better deal than you will right now. However, I'd say that if you can find a Switch with a game for $300 or less now... you should consider picking it up. You won't save much on Black Friday AND you won't have to stress about stores running out of stock. Which they might.
As for games? And accessories? Definitely wait to buy in SD card, but don't worry about waiting for games. If you see it cheap now, get it. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, as they say. Or rather, a Mario Kart in your console now, is worth two Mario Karts in a shop (which may sell out) during Black Friday.
Where can I find the best Black Friday Nintendo deals?
Obviously, we'll update this article from now until the end of November (and beyond) with all the best Nintendo deals we find. So, bookmark this page, and keep checking in. Generally speaking, we'll be looking at all the big retailers, but the ones that do the best Nintendo deals, generally, are Amazon, Walmart, ThinkGeek and UK outlets like Argos and eBay (yes indeed). We'll be checking them constantly.
