Bungie confirms next project is an action MMO

ABungie staffer revealed to GDC attendees the studio's next release will indeed be an action-oriented MMO. The Halo dev teased such a project last year, saying "Wouldn't it be great if we could make a world that was always there for you?" so this isn't exactly shocking news.

The news dropped during the “I Shot You First: Networking the Gameplay of Halo: Reach” GDC session starring Bungie's lead network engineer, David Aldridge. In it, he confirmed the existence of an MMO project, assuring the audience Bungie is aiming to do something new with the genre, and not just squeeze out “WoW in Space” (he means Starcraft, right?).

Unfortunately, that's about as much as Aldridge was willing to offer on Bungie's first non-Halo venture in over a decade. From earlier industry whisperings, we do know the upcoming title will bepublished by Activision, and it has at least been onBungie's mindsince late last year. At one point, there were rumors the project would be called Destiny, but those havesince been squashed.

No matter - information is on its way. Now thatBungie has spilled the beans, expect the hype train to leave the station at any moment.
