True Blood Has Still Got Bite

Season Two of True Blood has kicked off on Sunday with impressive viewing figures for season two in the States. The second season premiere nabbed 3.7 million viewers, the biggest audience for the US HBO network since the finale of The Sopranos two years ago. That’s 157% up on the season one premiere and 51% up on the first season finale.

A repeat screening screening at 11pm added another 1.4 million viewers.

"It even surpassed our expectations," Michael Lombardo, president of the HBO programming group and West Coast operations, told Variety. "What we saw last season was a phenomenon that grew by word of mouth and that has continued. People who finished with the show brought friends with them. The word had gotten out."

And the success story continues. The True Blood season one DVD is the bestselling TV series on disc for the year in the States, while the series is number one on the American iTunes charts for TV episodes purchased.

And the show deserves after. After a slow start it has developed into one of the best current telefantasy shows out there, and the season two premiere is a blast.
