Mary Jane cut from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 , BBC reacts to lost Who episode rumours and Hemlock Grove returns for season two

• Shailene Woodley is “bummed” to hear that her character, Mary Jane , has been cut from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 . With the news of two more confirmed Spider-Man films, it seems director Marc Webb feels comfortable taking his time with the storylines. • A new TV spot for supernatural film RIPD has been released by Universal. In the upcoming adaptation of the Dark House comic Rest in Peace Department , Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds star as members of a special police force tasked with tracking down monsters disguised as normal people. • Drafthouse Films have plans to restore and distribute sci-fi oddity The Visitor . The 1979 film helmed by John Huston and Sam Peckinpah tells the story of an alien Christ figure who battles a demonic 8-year-old girl and her pet hawk. • We still have no sightings of Godzilla , but a new photo from the set teases an underground laboratory used in the upcoming reboot. Godzilla stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe and Bryan Cranston and is expected May 2014. [Via Coming Soon ]

• It’s not just Man Of Steel making headlines for its box office success; Iron Man 3 has made $1.2 billion worldwide. It broke the $400m mark at the US box office this week. [Via The Wrap ]

Hemlock Grove , Eli Roth’s gothic horror series, has begun production of a 10-episode second season on Netflix. Starring Famke Janssen and Bill Skarsgård, it’s based on Brian McGreevey’s novel exploring the odd things occurring in a small Pennsylvania town. Charles Eglee, who has worked on The Shield , The Walking Dead and Dexter , has been brought on board as executive producer. [Via The Wrap ]

• The graphic novel Locke & Key by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez has been picked up by Universal to be adapted into a feature film. Any further information is currently under lock and key… sorry. [Via Collider ]

• This year’s San Diego Comic-Con has got even more exciting with the announcement that Super7’s Alien ReAction Figures will be on sale. You can pick up limited toys of the Alien, Ripley, Ash, Dallasand Kane. [Via Collider ]

• A few more details about Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America: The Winter Soldier have emerged, including rumours of a comic-faithful base of operations for the Guardians and news that Cap 2 will be the closest we get to a bridge between The Avengers and its 2014 sequel. • The fevered speculation concerning the possible missing Doctor Who episodes has forced the BBC to respond. Head of Communications, Brands, Content and Digital, Philip Fleming said: “There are always rumours and speculation about Doctor Who missing episodes being discovered. • Universal have revealed the first international poster for Kick-Ass 2 . We’re getting very excited to see Jim Carrey’s Colonel Stars-and-Stripes in full when the film hits screen on 14 August.
