Sci-Fi Bargains Of The Week

It all began with the forging of the Great Bargains… Three were given to the Elves; immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. And into this bargain he poured all his hidden charges, exorbitant postal fees and his will to dominate all cash transactions. One false bargain to rule them all... We start the bargains with the Amazon “Deals of the Week” offers and this week it has the Sherlock Holmes Robert Downey Jr movie collection ( can two movies be a collection? - ed ) on DVD for £8.75 . Elementary…

Amazon also had the recent make-a-game-into-a-film effort; Battleship can be yours on DVD for £7.50 or if you prefer Blu-ray , then that’ll cost you £10 . We can’t wait for the Hungry Hungry Hippos live action remake.

Fans of long-pondering sci-fi can pick up 2001: A Space Odyssey on Blu-ray for £8.25 . We love it really.

Sort-of-geeky comedy series The IT Crowd , series one to four, was spotted in box-set form on DVD for £14.25 .

Fans of Captain Tightpants himself, Nathan Fillion, can pick up Castle , seasons one to three, on DVD for £25.75 .

If you like flash-backs, flash-forwards and a finale that splits fandom right down the middle, then the Lost complete box-set is the thing for you. We found it going for £39.49 on DVD . Mind the polar bears.

Other TV box-sets spotted on offer this week were the complete Ghost Whisperer on DVD for £35 , the complete Medium , again on DVD , this time for the slightly more expensive £49.25 and the complete Thunderbirds DVD for £29 .

This week’s Doctor Who offerings included Tom Baker’s ”The Hand Of Fear” adventure for £6 , Jon Pertwee in ”The Green Death” which was going for £6.50 , Peter Davison in ”Earthshock” , available for £6 and Sixth Doctor Colin Baker in ”The Mark of the Rani” , which was also on sale for just £6 .

Fans of the robot dog can pick up the K9 Tales box-set on DVD for £9.79 . Alternatively you could pick up series one volume one and series one volume two of the K9 reboot TV series for £11 each.

On Play.com this week we found the Family Guy Star Wars trilogy on Blu-ray for £17.99 . Play also had the complete Deep Space Nine on DVD for £49.99 .

The offers we told you about last week were still running; Zavvi’s two for £12 offer featured The Princess Bride, From Dusk Till Dawn, Children Of Men and Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior among many other titles.

Over on the HMV website there’s a 5 Blu-rays for £30 deal still running where we saw titles such as The Fifth Element, Moon and Goonies .

We didn’t have time to visit all the supermarkets this week but Asda had the Spaced definitive set for £10 , the Ultimate X-Men collection for £15 and the Indiana Jones movie collection DVD for £24 . We also spotted Hellboy 2, Hot Fuzz, The Hulk and both Fantastic Four films for £3 each.

From the forum this week Runalong told us that Sainsbury’s have a Superman box-set and the four Mission Impossible film set on DVD for £15 each, Wee Little Puppet Man found Close Encounters Of The Third Kind on Blu-ray for £5.99 , series two of Sherlock on DVD for £6.49 and a Superman towel for £9.98 . Midnighter found John Carter on DVD in Tesco for £5 and Silver Fox 67 found a Hot Fuzz/Shaun of the Dead/Scott Pilgrim Blu-ray triple pack for £12.98 .

Our final forum finds this week lead us straight into our random suggestions; forum geek knitter Breyah found us two knitting books. First we have the Knits for Nerds book which is available for £7.69 or a Kindle version for £7.31 . The book contains a Star Trek mini-dress uniform, a Doctor Who -inspired robot doll, Firefly ’s Jayne Cobb’s hat and hairstyles from Star Wars among many other ideas. The second book Breyah pointed out was this Knit Your Own Zombie book which is available from Amazon for £6.89 .

If you fancy a little piece of Marty and Doc Brown’s time-travelling adventures to grace your humble abode, you could do worse than this fully programmable Time Machine Dashboard wall mount, available from Firebox for £19.99 . Actual time travel not garanteed.

Fans of Star Trek can pick up one of these themed iPhone cases for £9.99 each. The four versions each have the Starfleet logo and are available in command gold, science blue, red shirt red or in a mirror universe Empire style.

Finally for this week; if anyone out there’s got cold feet as winter draws on you could always try out these Hobbit feet slippers , they’re available to pre-order from Firebox for £19.99
