Josh Brolin to star in a comic book movie?

About to hit our screens as America’s current president in W, Josh Brolin may be switching gears to portray DC Comics gunslinger Jonah Hex.

Crank writer/director’s Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor have written a script based on the property and are planning to direct the film. There’s no word on Brolin and the filmmakers sealing a deal, but according to Variety , he’s close to agreeing.

John Albano and Tony DeZuniga created Hex, a badly scarred antihero who fought in the American Civil War, for DC in 1972. He’s surly, cynical and is often compared to Clint Eastwood’s character in The Outlaw Josey Wales.

Thomas Jane Lobbied For The Role

The casting news will come as a disappointment to one person in particular – Thomas Jane has been lobbying for the role, going to the point of having a friend create make-up used to shoot pictures of Jane as Hex.

Looks like he couldn’t win out over the power of someone who has played both a president on screen and made a convincing gun-slinger for the Coen brothers...
