Hitchhikers cast reunite

It’s 30 whole years since Douglas Adams’s groundbreaking tale of life, the universe and everything first graced the nation’s airwaves. To mark the occasion, the original cast of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio series are being reunited for a live performance in aid of two of the late, great author’s favourite charities: Save the Rhino and the Environmental Investigation Agency.

As well as bringing Simon Jones (Arthur Dent), Geoffrey McGivern (Ford Prefect), Mark Wing Davey (Zaphod Beeblebrox), and Susan Sheridan (Trillian) back together (along with a “Very Special Guest” facing the daunting task of stepping into the shoes of the late Peter Jones as the Voice of the Book), the 12 March bash will feature this year’s Douglas Adams Memorial Lecture – “The Stuff of Thought: Language as a Window into Human Nature”, delivered by psychologist Steven Pinker. The night will also give you the chance to get hold of your very own Vogon, as a bronze statue of one of the galaxy’s most officious bureaucrats (handcrafted by the Henson workshop) goes under the auctioneers hammer.

The event takes place at 7.30pm on Wednesday 12 March, at the Royal Geographical Society in London. Tickets cost £12, with proceeds going to Save the Rhino and the Environmental Investigation Agency. You can book tickets (or download a bidding form for the Vogon, in case you can’t make it on the night) here .
