Fright Night Remake

Former Buffy writer is scripting the horror update

Former Buffy The Vampire Slayer writer Marti Noxon is writing a remake of 1985 comedy horror classic Fright Night , according to The LA Times , which also claims that Craig Gillespie is near to signing up as director.

Gillespie directed the 2007 romantic comedies Lars And The Real Girl and Mr Woodcock , both of which are a darned site more endearingly kooky than their genre might suggest. He’s also an executive producer on the Showtime series The United States Of Tara . The LA Times reckons that the film is a "high priority" for Dreamworks.

The original film, directed by Tom Holland and which has become a cult classic, can be regarded as a forerunner of Buffy in the way it mixed vampires and dark humour. It was about a kid who’s a horror fan who’s convinced that a vampire has moved in next door, and calls on a TV horror show host to help him out.
