Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance review

It's Advance Wars with a pinch of medieval madness

Ever played Advance Wars? Then you'll feel quite at home with Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance.

You have a grid for a battlefield and a motley crew of units at your disposal. By taking it in turns with the enemy, you must position your team wisely, using their strengths and weaknesses to defeat an opposing army.

There are a couple of important differences, though. Path of Radiance plays much more like an RPG, with every defeated enemy giving EXP that can be used to make your characters stronger.

The battles themselves are tied together by extensive dialogue, injecting each character with personality and a background, to help develop the epic tale from humble beginnings to the climactic final battles.

It's an exceptionally well-crafted strategy game. True, it can be a bit ugly in the visual department, but the well-written story and the fact that you feel genuinely involved in the action more than makes up for it.
