The Helldivers 2 Ironclad Democracy Warbond looks to be a spiritual sequel to Democratic Detonation, with even more explosive and incendiary power (and if you saw the trailer go live early, no you didn't). If you choose to spend your hard-earned Super Credits on this Warbond, you'll be able to unlock five weapons for your loadout, including a pump-action grenade launcher and an assault rifle with an underslung shotgun – lots of Helldivers 2 firsts. It all sounds pretty fun, so here's a breakdown of everything we know about the gear in the Ironclad Democracy Warbond.

Helldivers 2 Ironclad Democracy Warbond release date

Ironclad Democracy releases next week on September 22 at the usual time of 9AM UTC – that's 2AM PDT / 5AM EDT / 10AM BST. From then, you'll be able to buy the Warbond for the usual 1,000 Helldivers 2 Super Credits or one Helldivers 2 Warbond Token if you have one. I'll be adding it to our list of the best Helldivers 2 Warbonds in the days following, and it looks like it could be one of the best ones yet.

All Helldivers 2 Ironclad Democracy Warbond gear

The Ironclad Democracy Warbond is one of the most packed Warbonds we've ever seen. It holds a ton of stuff for you to spend your Helldivers 2 Medals on, including a whopping five loadout weapons and two Helldivers 2 Boosters. Here's the full list and what we know about each item so far:

• Weapons:
  • AR-11 Arbitrator: A rapid-fire assault rifle with an underbarrel shotgun, letting you switch between two firing modes.
  • GL-15 Evictor: Explosive power in the form of a primary weapon grenade launcher with a single-round reload and pump action.
  • P-34 Breacher: A missile pistol that fires a sticky incendiary payload – it's essentially a thermite pistol!
  • G-60 Anti-Tank Seeker: Exactly what it says, an anti-tank grenade that can seek towards enemies. After deploying, it hovers near you before flying to a nearby target.
  • G-8 Immolation: A Molotov-style firebomb grenade that carpets an area in fire.
• Armor:
  • BFM-220 Ironclad heavy armor and helmet: Comes with the Blunt-Force Mitigation passive which provides a higher armor rating, makes you more resistant to being knocked over when under attack, and reduces damage taken from impacts and collisions by 30%,
  • BFM-16 Ironclad light armor and helmet: Also comes with the Blunt-Force Mitigation passive.
• Boosters:
  • Integrated Extinguishers: Reduces the time to extinguish flames if you catch fire. Handy if your team is going all in on incendiary weapons and explosives.
  • Surplus EAT Allocation: Provides two uses of the Expendable Anti-Tank support weapon Stratagem in your current mission. With two rocket launchers per Hellpod, that works out as one launcher per player in a full team of four.

Last Stop codes are a great way to increase your chances of survival while you're on the road, fighting zombies and bandits in this apocalyptic experience. It's not only you that's need to be powered up with the best class, weapons, and gear, but you bus also needs to be kitted up to defend.

Fortunately, these Last Stop codes give you tickets to unlock new recipes, which can be used to buff your bus, making you stronger against the enemies you'll meet on the road in this Roblox game. All Last Stop codes

Last Stop tickets so far have generally rewarded players with Tickets, and these can be used to unlock crafting recipes or buy a new character class. You can only spend tickets in the lobby, so make sure you kit up before heading out on the road.

Codes aren't case-sensitive, so just make sure you've got the spelling right, or copy and paste from the list above.

How to redeem Last Stop codes

To redeem Last Stop codes, you must first reach level 5 by completing a few rounds and some quests. Once at the right level, you can redeem codes by clicking on the Codes button in the top-right corner of the screen. You can then enter a code from the list above into the box, then click on the green check mark to claim your rewards.

The codes box is at the bottom of the settings menu, so you can also navigate to the redemption box via the settings cog in the top left-hand corner.

Expired Last Stop codes

Grand Blue codes can give you an advantage in this epic pirate adventure, as you travel the lands searching for Cursed Fruits to add to your collection and increase your abilities. There are also rare weapons and equipment to discover and craft, as you increase your strength through battles so you can defeat the tough bosses standing in your way.

While this experience is still in Early Access there are plenty of promos being released, offering free Trait and Race Rerolls to modify your character along with other useful items to get a boost in this role-playing Roblox experience. If you're in the game itself then you can also hit the Settings button to bring up the menu, then select the Codes tab before using the Enter code... text box there. Codes for Grand Blue are not case-sensitive, so just make sure you use the correct spelling.

The Wolverine Omega Red fight is a tricky battle after facing relatively weak Trask soldiers and Reavers, but once you understand how it works, it should become much easier. Unlike the regular enemies you've been fighting in Marvel's Wolverine until this point, Omega Red can't be bombarded with erratic attacks, and you need to take a much more reactive approach to combat, with parrying and dodging being critical to success. But there's more to bear in mind, so I've laid out some tips for beating Arkady Rossovich, AKA Omega Red – the first boss fight in Marvel's Wolverine.

How to defeat Omega Red in Wolverine

To beat Omega Red, you need to get used to dodging and parrying as this is the game's first true test of both combat mechanics. You'll really struggle to beat this mutant boss without getting to grips with them as you'll deal the most damage when Omega Red is staggered, so make sure you focus on perfect timing and bear these tips in mind:

1. Don't be too aggressive at first and focus on parrying: In the first phase where you fight Omega Red in the hangar, his attack patterns are quite limited so use this as a chance to learn dodge and parry timing. He'll either throw out a three-hit combo, where the first two hits can be parried and the final one must be dodged or will leap into the air and throw objects at you, which much also be dodged.
2. Kick through Omega Red's tendrils: When he uses his metal tentacles as a shield, hold Square to kick them and break his guard, then attack rapidly during this short window of opportunity – mash Square or throw in a combo ender (Square, Square, Square, Triangle) to deal high damage.
3. I strongly recommend having the Stagger Leap and Healing Strike Wolverine Techniques unlocked: You can use the charged-up leap of the former to quickly close the distance with Omega Red while also dealing solid stagger damage, and you can use the latter to deal high damage and heal slightly.
4. Use Knee Breaker to interrupt unblockable attacks: This Special Technique also inflicts massive stagger damage and is one of the most useful abilities in the game for any boss fight and not just Omega Red.

5. In phase 2, Omega Red's gains a brutal grab attack: If you get caught by this, it initiates a button-mashing quick-time event, which should be executed as quickly as possible. The longer the grab lasts, the more damage Wolverine takes and the more health Omega Red regenerates, so it can undo a lot of your progress.
6. Wait for Omega Red to attack after leaping away: Omega Red quite reliably uses this grab move after leaping away from Wolverine, telegraphed by him preparing to throw out his tendrils with a red circular unblockable indicator. Whenever Omega Red repositions, wait for him to throw out an attack (he reliably uses the above grab attack after leaping), dodge appropriately, then close the distance with a charged-up leap attack – the number of times I leapt at him only to get grabbed mid-air was silly, so do as I say, not as I do.

Follow those tips and you should be able to beat the disgraced former Team X member for good. This also effectively marks the end of the game's tutorial missions, and now you'll start noticing things like Wolverine whiskey bottles to find in most missions. During the next mission, you'll also unlock the ability to craft Wolverine suits, letting you dress Logan how you want.

Wolverine isn't just about non-stop fighting as there are also a few puzzles to solve, with the Marvel's Wolverine Shiro lock code being one that has a chance to stump you. And there's plenty to see in all the levels when it comes to Wolverine Easter eggs and references.

Unlocking all the Wolverine suits and claws can be difficult as you've got to overcome some tough challenges, grab almost every collectible in the game, and craft some of them. But by the end of Marvel's Wolverine, you'll have access to almost 30 costumes in which to dress Logan up, covering the entire history of the character - and you might have even more if you've got the Digital Deluxe Edition. From deep-cut comic costumes and Insomniac Games originals to suits from movies and TV, here's a rundown of every suit in Marvel's Wolverine and how to unlock them.

Bear in mind that a few of Wolverine's suits are relevant to the game's story so, while I've kept things vague, be mindful of possible spoilers below.

How to unlock all Wolverine suits

Marvel's Wolverine features 27 suits and 22 claws, with an additional five of each if you own the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game. You'll unlock most suits and claws just by playing through the game's missions (if you want to know how long that'll take, I've explained how long it takes to beat Marvel's Wolverine here) but some require you to complete specific challenges instead – unlike the Spider-Man 2 suits, they are not tied to levelling up.

Furthermore, to actually wear some of them, you also need to spend materials you've gathered from Material Crates in missions to craft them – this is explained in the early mission 'Homecoming'. While all the suits and claws are just cosmetic options with no gameplay effects, crafting suits is quite important as the more you fill out your suit collection, the more you'll increase Wolverine's maximum health, up to double its base amount. For that reason, keep an eye out for Material Crates as you play, but don't worry if you miss any as the game includes more than enough to craft every suit and you can always replay missions - keep an eye our for Wolverine whiskey bottles as well as material crates as you replay.

Besides the Marvel Tokon and Animated suits, you can mix and match any combination of suit and claws to your liking. Just be aware that certain missions will force Wolverine to dress a certain way which can't always be altered during the mission.

Team X Tactical

• Unlocked by default.
• Wolverine's military-grade uniform that he wears at the start of the game, which is based on a Team X comic book look - a black suit with yellow webbing. His typical Adamantium Claws are unlocked from the start too.

Tank Top

• Unlocked by default.
• The white tank top and jeans is a classic look for Wolverine, appearing in various comics and movies - very prominently in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Battle Reborn

• Becomes available to craft for 75 materials during the "Homecoming" mission.
• Wolverine's iconic cowled costume re-imagined for Marvel's Wolverine with yellow and black coloring.

Gold Standard

• Becomes available to craft for 75 materials during the "Homecoming" mission.
• Includes Bone Claws.
• This is Insomniac's rendition of Wolverine's Astonishing X-Men outfit, which features a mix of the classic yellow and blue and even has an X-Men belt buckle.

Fang

• Becomes available to craft for 150 materials at the start of the "The One That Got Away" mission.
• Includes Savage Bone Claws.
• A classic costume from Uncanny X-Men #107. The costume's namesake, Fang, is the name of an alien warrior Wolverine defeated and the costume's original owner. Wolverine dons it because his own costume gets damaged.

Old Man Logan

• Becomes available to craft for 150 materials at the start of the "The One That Got Away" mission.
• Includes Savage Bone Claws.
• Old Man Logan has appeared in several forms over the years, and this is Insomniac's version of their Wolverine all grizzled and aged, featuring the usual long brown coat.

Ultimate Red

• Becomes available to craft for 150 materials at the start of the "The One That Got Away" mission.
• Includes Hooked Claws.
• This is a relatively new costume for Wolverine from the Ultimate Universe in which he serves as the Winter Soldier under Colossus, Magik, and Omega Red.

Ablation

• Becomes available to craft for 200 materials at the start of the "The One That Got Away" mission.
• Includes Notched Claws.
• While it doesn't look especially durable in the game, this slightly orange-tinted costume is based on Wolverine's armored Ablation suit from the 'Wolverine' comic series. It was gifted to Wolverine by Spider-Man after a Microverse alien virus caused him to lose his healing factor and ability to use his claws. The suit therefore had built-in claws.

Weapon X

• Becomes available to craft for 200 materials at the start of the "Something Stronger" mission.
• Includes Curved Claws.
• Insomniac's interpretation of the classic Weapon X look, which sees Logan covered in experimental tech that make him an adamantium-infused, brainwashed killer.

Future Past

• Unlocks at the start of the "Something Stronger" mission.
• Inspired by Wolverine's X-Men: Days of Future Past comic costume, this outfit dresses Logan in a more casual outfit comprising jeans, a grey henley top, and a large brown coat with a fleece inside.

Dressed Down

• Unlocks at the start of the "One Last Mission" mission.
• A casual red flannel shirt and jeans fit for a Canadian lumberjack, and an outfit that's very similar to one Hugh Jackman's Wolverine wears in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Leather Jacket

• Unlocks at the start of the "Jetlag" mission.
• I don't think this suit references a specific costume but a leather jacket, flannel shirt, and jeans is just something Logan would wear on his days off. Again, Hugh Jackman wears a similar combo in the 2000 movie X-Men.

X-Force

• Becomes available to craft for 200 materials at the start of the "Get Angry" mission.
• Includes Angular Claws.
• Wolverine's black ops X-Force suit designed for stealth, from the X-Force comic series.

Blue & Gold

• Becomes available to craft for 200 materials at the start of the "Get Angry" mission.
• Includes Thin Claws.
• An X-Men training uniform suit made by Moira MacTaggert in Uncanny X-Men #273.

Ultimate Yellow

• Becomes available to craft for 200 materials at the start of the "Get Angry" mission.
• Includes Crescent Claws.
• A simple black combat suit with yellow accents that Wolverine first wears in Uncanny X-Men #423. Ultimate X-Men Wolverine also wore this outfit around the same time for a (briefly) consistent Wolverine costume.

Accursed

• Becomes available to craft for 250 materials at the start of the "Get Angry" mission.
• Includes Natural Bone Claws.
• Wolverine's Madripoor costume from Marvel Comics Presents #8. It's a black sleeveless outfit and this version features all the accessories, including a red belt and black face paint.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls

• Becomes available to craft for 300 materials upon entering the arcade in the "In the Shadows" missions.
• Wolverine's cel-shaded costume from the 2026 fighting game Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. Also includes Fightin' Souls Claws but they can only be used with this suit.

Classic Brown

• Pre-order bonus that unlocks at start of the "The One That Got Away" mission.
• Includes Reflective Claws.
• The brown suit is a classic look for Wolverine that debuted in Uncanny X-Men #139.

Black Tank

• Becomes available to craft for 250 materials at the start of the "Way Down Low" mission.
• Includes Ragged Adamantium Claws.
• This seems to be an Insomniac original that riffs on the Tank Top costume. Wolverine's top is black, he's got a hat, and his sideburns are even more extreme!

Yellow Variant

• Becomes available to craft for 250 materials at the start of the "Way Down Low" mission.
• Includes Variant Claws.
• Wolverine's costume in the 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine. Thankfully, Deadpool isn't here too.

Animated

• Becomes available to craft for 200 materials at the start of the "Way Down Low" mission.
• Wolverine's simple appearance from the original animated series and reboot, X-Men '97. Also includes Animated Claws but they can only be used with this suit.

Patch

• Unlocks at the start of the "Roll The Dice" mission.
• An alias used by Wolverine when hiding in Madripoor that first appears in Marvel Comics Presents #10, dressing him in the iconic white tux and eyepatch combo. You might also recognize it from a Marvel Rivals costume and a brief appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Feral

• Becomes available to craft for 300 materials at the start of the "I'm Still Here" mission.
• Wolverine has gone feral and looked the part in various ways over the years, but this suit matches his wild look in the very first cutscene of the game where he is rescued by Essex.

Midnight

• Collect all Whiskey Bottles.
• Includes Scarlet Claws.
• This suit is ripped straight from Midnight Suns #4, giving Wolverine a black, magically forged, armored suit with red accents, including scarlet claws. Unfortunately, his black-and-gold suit from the Marvel's Midnight Suns game isn't available.

Future Fugitive

• Achieve Gold level in all three Gauntlet Nightmare Trials.
• Includes Techno-Organic Claws.
• This is a costume Omega Wolverine gets in the 'X Deaths of Wolverine' comic series where he is infected with Phalanx's techno-organic virus, which turns organic material into animate machinery. That's why his suit is covered in glowing circuit board-looking tiger stripes. He still lives because of his healing factor, which slows the virus' consumption.

Hellverine

• Achieve Adamantium level in all three Gauntlet Nightmare Trials.
• Includes Charred Bone Claws.
• The Hellverine is a recent comic character that is a crossover with Ghost Rider. Specifically, he's the result of a demon called Bagra-ghul possessing Wolverine, giving him a rather infernal look. Bagra-ghul also went on to possess Wolverine's son Akihiro in a Hellverine mini comic series.

Death

• Complete all missions
• Wolverine's Death costume is modelled after his appearance as Apocalypse's Horseman of Death in Astonishing X-Men #1, featuring the same red head covering and blue metallic armor.

Age of Apocalypse

• Digital Deluxe Edition bonus that unlocks at start of "The One That Got Away"
• Includes Thick Claws
• This is Wolverine's look in the Age of Apocalypse timeline where he goes by Weapon-X, wearing a black and red suit, and is missing his left hand (the claws remain).

Incredible

• Digital Deluxe Edition bonus that unlocks at start of "The One That Got Away"
• Includes Smooth-Edged Claws
• This is the costume Wolverine wears in his first ever appearance, which was in The Incredible Hulk #180 when the Hulk and Wendigo were having a scrap.

New Leather

• Digital Deluxe Edition bonus that unlocks at start of "The One That Got Away".
• Includes Tapered Claws.
• At a few points in Wolverine's history, he has donned a full black leather outfit with some yellow X-Men embellishments. This New Leather suit seems to reference his New X-Men #114 outfit, but it's also reminiscent of the leather costumes in the early 2000s X-Men movies and his costume on the cover of Wolverine #171.

Savage

• Digital Deluxe Edition bonus that unlocks at start of "The One That Got Away".
• Includes Hollow Blade Claws.
• The Savage suit is an original design for Marvel's Wolverine by comic artist Adam Kubert, who has worked extensively on Wolverine, the X-Men, and many other Marvel heroes throughout his career.

Night Hunt

• Digital Deluxe Edition bonus that unlocks at start of "The One That Got Away".
• Includes Serrated Spine Claws.
• Night Hunt is another original design for the game, this one created by comic artist Iban Coello. He's worked on plenty of Marvel characters beyond Wolverine, including Venom, Carnage, and the Fantastic Four.

Flat-Edged Claws

• Achieve Silver in the Last Stand at Cold Pines Gauntlet Nightmare Trial.
• From what I can gather, these claws are an original design by Insomniac.

Gold Claws

• Achieve Silver in the Crucible of Tears Gauntlet Nightmare Trial.
• These gold claws are made from the divine metal Adamantine, a refined version of Adamantium. The claws appear in a few different comic runs, notably Astonishing X-Men. In this series, James Howlett is given Adamantine by Hercules, which is later bonded to his skeleton.

Diamond Claws

• Achieve Silver in the Savage Showdown Gauntlet Nightmare Trial.
• I think these claws are also an Insomniac original and are just an extravagant-looking reward. But there's a point in the Infinity Wars comic series where Wolverine and Emma Frost's souls are merged. Together they form Diamond Patch who has diamond claws.

Now that Logan hopefully looks the part in one of his dashing costumes, make sure you're the best there is in combat with the best Wolverine Techniques and best Wolverine Adaptations. The code for Shiro's closet lock in Wolverine can't be worked out like the other similar puzzles, where you can just sense the fingerprints to get it. That's because it's just been changed recently and there are too many traces on the keypad to pin down the numbers you need for this Marvel's Wolverine puzzle. The solution is literally right around the corner, but if you don't know what to look for, or click through the solution too quickly, you might miss it and not be sure what to do.

So, below, I'll explain the Wolverine closet code and what you need to use the keypad and open it up.

Wolverine closet code combination

The closet code combination is 1924 in Marvel's Wolverine.

The solution is found on the bookshelf around the corner, where you can examine some books to get it. It's not super clear though as there are two sets of books: one that is apparently normal and all in order, and a second set that is not, but Logan doesn't really add much to that:

While it's not immediately obvious, the arranged books give you the code, made up from the disorderly books sticking out from the shelf. Where it can get confusing is that Wolverine comments on the books but makes no direct link to the code you need. You also can't re-examine the bookshelf again once you've left it. Which can be an issue if, like me, you immediately forgot the number the second you stopped looking at it.

Fortunately you can still see the '1924' standing out from the rearranged books if you walk up to it, so its not like you can't see it. You just don't have the zoomed in view accessible after the first look. Now, take that number, use it at the closet and you'll open up the way to the [SPOILERS] inside.

Finding Marvel's Wolverine whiskey bottles is important if you want to boost your Adaptation Level and unlock all the suits in the game, but some of them are much harder to find than others. A few of these bottles very easy to find, being practically impossible to miss as you move through a mission in Marvel's Wolverine, while others are much harder to find since their guiding scent trail can be hard to pick up. So, I've laid out the locations of every Wolverine whiskey bottle below to help you sniff them all out swiftly.

Since this guide includes some light descriptions of most of the levels in the game, be aware of some very minor spoilers.

Wolverine whiskey bottle locations

There are 21 whiskey bottles to collect in Marvel's Wolverine, with most levels having one bottle to find and a couple having two bottles. All whiskey bottles have a scent trail that leads directly to them, but they can be quite easy to miss as they're either not that obvious or blend in with other objectives.

Each bottle you find provides two Adaptation Points which help you unlock and equip more of the best Wolverine Adaptations – while there is a Whiskey Finder adaptation, I recommend sticking with this guide. Find all 21 bottles and you'll also unlock the Midnight suit for your Wolverine suits collection.

Here are the locations of all the whiskey bottles in Wolverine in each level in order:

Homecoming whiskey bottle

This Wolverine whiskey bottle is impossible to miss as finding it is part of the mission. Follow the scent trail into Logan's store cupboard bedroom and the Uncanny Whiskey bottle will be right in front of you. The name of this bottle riffs on the first X-Men comic series, Uncanny X-Men.

The One That Got Away whiskey bottle

Near the beginning of the mission, once you start properly tracking Jean Grey, you'll reach a point where you jump off a building and then sniff a patch of ground affected by her purple telekinetic power. Follow the scent trail ahead of this but bear right and go towards the boarded-up garage. Smash the wooden cover and grab the Incredible 181 Whiskey Bottle from the tool trolley. This references Wolverine's first ever appearance, which was in the comic Incredible Hulk 181.

Raise Some Hell whiskey bottle

In the courtyard area with the yellow crane and the Nightmare Door, follow the scent path towards the grey brick wall. Once you pass the containers, turn left and you should spot a yellow door on the far wall. Crash through it to reach a rec room where you'll find the Cold Lake whiskey bottle. Cold Lake in Alberta, Cananda, is where Logan is from.

Strays whiskey bottle

Head inside Walter's lab and go towards the far-right corner of the room. The Blood Debt whiskey bottle is on the metal bench next to the table. 'Blood Debt' is the name of a Wolverine comic book storyline.

Something Much Stronger whiskey bottle

Follow the river upstream and into a cave. Climb the rocks on the left and you'll spot the Not Dead Yet whiskey bottle on a wooden crate. This is another reference to a Wolverine comic book storyline.

Knock Knock whiskey bottle

After you destroy the signal relay and get out from the rubble, immediately follow the scent trail to the damaged building on your right. There's a slab marked with white paint you can climb to get inside the building. Once you're in, the Tenth Man whiskey bottle can be found on the long counter.

"Tenth Man" is a play on Wolverine being an X-Man because X is 10 in roman numerals. In the same sense, it could also link to being a test subject for the Weapon X program, the tenth Weapon Plus program.

Mutant Detected whiskey bottle

After surviving the propulsion tunnel near the end of the level, start following the objective markers through the facility. You'll soon pass through a doorway that leads into a more open section with several forklifts and large containers lying about. In this area, immediately head left to find a locked door with a nearby keypad (there's a wooden crate in the way that you can smash).

Interact with the keypad and enter the code 5413 to get into a small lab. Follow the scent trail to the floor grate, interact with it to dive into a vent, then walk through and climb out the other end. The Fist of Legend whiskey bottle will be right in front of you on the lab counter – Fist of Legend is one of Wolverine's many aliases.

One Last Mission whiskey bottle

Speak to Sabretooth on the balcony of the Princess bar as the mission objectives direct. During the arm wrestle argument cinematic, Logan will put Sabretooth's whiskey bottle on the balcony railing. When the cinematic ends, make sure you pick up the 'The Old Man' whiskey bottle afterwards to add it to your collection. This seems to just be a reference to Old Man Logan, the old and weathered version of Wolverine from a universe where supervillains rule Earth.

Get Angry whiskey bottle

After going inside the Japanese bar from Jean's vision, go to the far end, take the stairs down to the basement, then follow the corridor and scent trail around to the right. Head inside the bathroom then press Triangle to get the creepy kissy head to move out (this gets you a trophy!). When it moves back, grab the Patch whiskey bottle from the shelf.

Patch is the name of Wolverine's alias in Madripoor that helps him remain anonymous in the criminal haven. This disguise is also one of Wolverine's many suits you can wear in the game.

Bad Blood whiskey bottle

When you're climbing up the under-construction building to reach Shiro's Penthouse, there's a point where you climb into the building and then destroy a pair of yellow grate doors to proceed. From here, carry on straight ahead and drop down – there will be a material crate right here – then follow the scent trail around to the right. Climb up to the next ledge and you'll spot the Fatal Attractions whiskey bottle on a blue tarp crate. The name of this bottle is the same as a famous X-Men comic series from the 1990s.

In the Shadows whiskey bottle 1

After destroying the second mutant detector, go back out onto the building rooftop to spot the final cluster of detectors. Facing the detector, drop down onto the lower rooftop ahead, then turn right and jump towards the rooftop balcony area with some electronic billboards in the corner – it's attached to the tall, blue building. You'll find the Best There Is whiskey bottle on a small table on this balcony.

The name of this whiskey bottle comes from a famous line of Wolverine's: "I'm the best there is at what I do, but what I do best isn't very nice..."

In the Shadows whiskey bottle 2

This Marvel's Wolverine whiskey bottle is pretty much impossible to miss. When you meet up with Jean and infiltrate the Hand's secret party together, you can grab the Berserker Brew whiskey bottle from one of the tables in the first room. This just seems to be a reference to Wolverine's berserker rage.

Death Comes to Death whiskey bottle

This bottle is also difficult to miss. Just follow the mission normally from the start and you'll eventually follow a scent trail that leads upwards into a sort of maintenance corridor. You'll find the Hand of God whiskey bottle on a tool trolley along the scent trail in this upper area.

'Hand of God' is a reference to a Wolverine comic storyline in which he is implied to be the Hand of God, sent down to punish the Ba'al-worshipping people of Gehenna thousands of years ago, or at least connected to it in some way.

We Were Wrong whiskey bottle

After talking to Essex, follow the objective markers to track the Hand mutant that took the Helix Engine. You'll eventually reach a T-shaped junction with a white truck on the left. Go to the back of the truck and you'll find the Revolto whiskey bottle on some cinderblocks. This bottle is named after Revolto the Clown who Wolverine becomes in a comic after getting brainwashed and forced into Frankenstein's Monster's Murder Circus.

Hell Followed With Him whiskey bottle

While climbing the cliff, there's a point where Jean will rescue Wolverine by telekinetically grabbing some falling boulders that must then be climbed. Once you get onto the wooden walkway, go forward and look for the white cloth hanging on the railing on your right. Hop over the railing where the cloth is and you'll land on a lower cliff ledge. Follow the scent trail down and you'll find the Itsu Single Malt whiskey bottle on a barrel. Itsu is the name of Logan's Japanese wife in the comics.

Way Down Low whiskey bottle 1

After opening the lockup, follow Jean and use the crane hook to zip up onto a roof. At the top, immediately head left and get onto the narrow balcony of the turquoise building. Follow the scent trail around the corner and you'll find the Wild Canadian whiskey bottle – a simple reference to the fact Wolverine is Canadian.

Way Down Low whiskey bottle 2

After Jean gets on the mic to rally the people of Lowtown, follow her using the zipline, then climb onto the roof ahead (this is the one with a Nightmare Door on it). Leap over to the next rooftop below, then follow the scent trail down the stairs to a balcony and the Little Uncle whiskey bottle on a table. This is a reference to Natasha Romanov's (Black Widow) nickname for Wolverine in the comics, "Little Uncle".

Roll the Dice whiskey bottle

Once you're inside the party, head upstairs and walk around to the bar. Press Triangle when prompted to stand at the bar and get a drink. Wolverine will then pocket the Blood and Bourbon whiskey bottle as another collectible. This is seemingly not a reference to anything aside from Wolverine's proclivity for bourbon and bloodshed.

Field Test whiskey bottle

After chasing the flying Sentinel and then getting hit by a car and fighting more Sentinels in a warehouse, follow the objective marker outside via the upper door. As you head toward the fish market, the Captain Terror whiskey bottle will be in clear view on top of an AC unit vent on your left.

Dan Kane, also known as Captain Terror, is a Marvel character that Wolverine once disguised himself as for a time travel mission.

I'm Still Here whiskey bottle

After fighting the first MK2 Sentinel, go down the short but winding path in the rubble – this eventually emerges into a split path where you can go either left or right to reach the next area.

Go left and head through the broken walls in the turquoise building, then continue down the path and go through the large hole in the pink wall on your left to get inside the Princess bar. Climb the stairs to reach the upper level then continue straight to find the Ol' Canucklehead whiskey bottle on a table. Ol' Canucklehead is a nickname for Wolverine that combines Canuck (a nod to being Canadian) and knucklehead.

The best Marvel's Wolverine Techniques are real game changers that noticeably amp up Logan's killing power. The problem is that there are quite a lot to choose from and, while you can unlock every Technique in a single playthrough of Marvel's Wolverine, it's worth knowing which ones you should get as early as possible – from enhancing his leap attack and parry to brutal flying knee and passive healing abilities. Unlock the top Wolverine Techniques I've laid out below and you'll be on your way to becoming the best there is.

Best Techniques to unlock in Wolverine

There are 36 Technique nodes to unlock in Marvel's Wolverine (40 if you include the additional Unstoppable Force Techniques in NG+), and you can unlock all of them in a single playthrough. To do so, you need to earn enough XP to reach Level 36 and spend your Technique Points - it's a completely different system to the Marvel's Wolverine Adaptations you can unlock.

Admittedly, levelling up that much isn't that easy, and it doesn't help that Techniques are locked behind level caps before they can even be unlocked, but you will at least have every Technique available by Level 29. For that reason, it's best to spend your Technique Points on the best you can get, then unlock any remaining until you get access to the next batch by levelling up – in short, don't save your Technique Points, but make sure you unlock the following as early as possible:

• Special Techniques:
  • Tornado Spin (unlocked automatically): A powerful attack that hits multiple enemies and gets substantially better with each upgrade. Good in pretty much all combat encounters and is great for getting you out of a sticky situation where you're surrounded.
  • Knee Breaker (Level 4): A staggering flying knee to the head that interrupts all enemy attacks and leaves the victim vulnerable to things like Healing Strike. Hugely useful in any fight when used at the right moment.
  • Relentless (Level 7): Gives you constant health regeneration at an increased rate for a short time, which can help you live through some devastating fights. It's good to quickly use as soon as your health gets low, particularly if you've not yet reached Rage Tier 2 and don't have Last Stand ready. If you're not taking enough damage to warrant using Relentless, you could swap it for Overwhelm instea
  • Brutal Assault (Level 25): Dash to an enemy and viciously slash at them. Since it also breaks through all defenses, it's a very good single-target attack that can rip through weaker enemies and substantially weaken larger ones, especially when fully upgraded.
• Techniques:
  • Savage Sprinter (Level 2): It's one of the first Techniques you can unlock and is worth doing and using when you can, especially early on. It's like a mini Tornado Spin that's great for opening a fight as you sprint at enemies and helps you build Rage.
  • Stagger Leap (Level 2): Wolverine's leap attack on Triangle is an incredibly useful basic attack, and this makes it even better, adding some staggering power by charging it up.
  • Healing Strike (Level 3): This is one of the most useful techniques in the whole game, letting you not only deal potentially lethal damage to a staggered enemy (especially if you use it to end a Barrage) but also instantly regenerate a chunk of health.
  • Sprint Block (Level 3): A great early-game Technique that helps to reduce some incoming damage.
  • Unblockable Ender (Level 11): A high-damage attack to round off your combos that also can't be blocked. Pairs well with Adaptations that add additional effects to Combo Enders.
  • Advanced Parry (Level 17): Allows Wolverine to deflect multiple incoming melee attacks at once, making parrying a lot more useful in general. Pairs very well with the Extended Parry Adaptation.
  • Staggered Throw (Level 17): Use this to throw staggered enemies into other enemies and potentially interrupting their attacks. It's also good for throwing enemies into walls and other hazards.
  • Charged Helix Blast (Level 23): A strong ranged attack that hits a wide area in front of Wolverine and can therefore hit multiple enemies.
  • Helix Combo (Level 23): Allows you to perform a second attack after using Helix Claws, dealing heavy damage. I've found that sometimes the initial Helix Claw attack can knock enemies so far away that the second attack doesn't actually hit, but it's good damage and ability to interrupt larger enemies mostly outweighs this.
  • Helix Counter-Shot (Level 23): By the end of the game, there are lots of enemies with ranged attacks, so being able to dodge them and automatically retaliate with Wolverine's own ranged blast is very useful

Bear in mind that just because a Technique isn't mentioned on this list, doesn't mean it's not good. Most of them are at least slightly useful but there are some that I very rarely had a reason to use, either because they weren't as effective as existing abilities or because they're very niche. The best examples of this are any of the Stealth-related techniques. All of them are quite good but since stealth is completely optional, you can entirely ignore these Techniques if you aren't planning on being sneaky.

How long does Wolverine take to complete? The answer is going to depend on how you play but most people will spend about 15 to 20 hours hacking and slashing their way through. Despite having 30 levels, Marvel's Wolverine isn't an especially big game and is very linear, so there aren't many chances to get lost. Instead, the two biggest determining factors in how long it takes to complete are how you get on with combat and how many collectibles you seek out. Bearing all of that in mind, here's a quick rundown of the length of Marvel's Wolverine

How long is Marvel's Wolverine?

The average length of a full playthrough of Marvel's Wolverine is about 16 hours. That's assuming you're spending a bit of time hunting collectibles, watching all the cutscenes, and dying a few times as combat can be a bit tricky. However, different playstyles mean different completion times, as follows:

• Quick: 12-15 hours
• Average: 15-18 hours
• 100% completion: 20+ hours

You might be able to complete Wolverine in under 15 hours on your first go, but only if you're playing on a low difficulty and are largely ignoring extra challenges like Nightmare Trials and collecting whiskey bottles. The game also has a ton of cutscenes so, assuming you aren't skipping them, completing the game much faster than this isn't really possible.

It's much more likely that you'll wrap up Wolverine in upwards of 15 hours, with a bit of collectible hunting and some deaths adding to your time to beat. My own playthrough, which included completing every Nightmare Trial to Adamantium level and collecting almost all the Wolverine Whiskey Bottles and Material Crates on 'The Mutant' difficulty took about 18 hours, with the writer of GamesRadar+'s Wolverine review also having a similar experience.

But if you want to see everything Marvel's Wolverine has to offer – at minimum that's completing every Nightmare Trial, unlocking every Marvel's Wolverine suit and upgrade, and collecting every bottle and crate – you'll easily spend 20 hours or more playing. If you want to go the extra mile, there's also a New Game+ mode that lets you replay the whole game with all your unlocks and features an increased level cap and four more Wolverine Adaptations and Wolverine Techniques.

Wolverine Adaptations function like perks, and the best ones are real game changers for combat. You start with four Adaptations and a single 'Strand' (or slot) you can equip one in and, as you find whiskey bottles and complete Nightmare Doors in Marvel's Wolverine, you'll unlock new Adaptions and more Strands to equip them in. I've completed the game and unlocked them all, so here what I think the best are overall, and what to equip as you progress through the game and get more.

The best Wolverine Adaptations

There are 25 Adaptations in total and you can eventually equip 10. You'll start with a single slot initially, and each time you unlock some more skills you'll get a new slot for the first nine Adaptations levels, with the tenth level just unlocking the final slot.

These are the best Wolverine Adaptions overall, from the full list of unlocked options and slots.

2. Extended Parry
3. Healing Parry
4. Tough Skinned
5. Rage Intimidation
6. Enraging Ender
7. Tier 2 Crit
8. Chain Crit
9. Rage Longer
10. Enraging Barrage

Most of these options are built around boosting your Rage - increasing damage, how long it lasts, how much you can do with it, and more. With Rage maxed out Wolverine can clear hordes of enemies in seconds, and level the battlefield. You should also be spending your Technique Points on the best Wolverine Techniques as these will boost your combat power a lot too.

The best Adaptations to equip as you get them

When you first unlock Adaptations, you'll get four options and a single slot, or Strand you can use to equip one. As you complete Nightmare Doors and find Wolverine Whisky Bottles to increase you Adaptation level you'll gradually unlock more options, and increase your Strand count by one each time up to a maximum of ten - doing both can also get you some Wolverine suits.

Let's a take a look now at what you unlock at each level and what you should equip as you go.

Adaptation level 1

• Healing Dangerously - Successfully reacting to Power Attacks or Reckless Attacks restores health
• Expanded Crit - Critical Strikes can be performed against enemies with higher remaining health
• Barrage Recharge - Recharged the Special Technique assigned to L2 + square faster
• Enraging Sprint - While Sprinting enemy ranged attacks build Rage

As this point Expanded Crit will probably be you best option as it will increase the potency of you Rage ability when powered up. However, if you're having trouble staying alive then Healing Dangerously can be useful.

Adaptation level 2

• Enraging Stealth - Stealth Takedowns build extra Rage
• Bullet Sponge - Ranged Attacks deal less damage to you

You'll now be able to equip two Adaptations and at this point I'd equip whichever of the Expanded Crit or Healing Dangerously options you didn't from last time. Stealth isn't really a huge thing so there's not much point using that, and, while Bullet Sponge can be useful in the early game, I wouldn't prioritise it.

Adaptation level 3

• Healing Dodge - Dodging an enemy attack restores health
• Extended Parry - Parries are successful within a larger time window

With three Strands to equip I would add Extended Parry to what you have. Parrying is such a vital part of the game that you want to boost it every way you can. At this point you might want to consider swapping out Healing Dangerously for Healing Dodge, as you'll likely make much more use of that while fighting.

Adaptation level 4

• Tough Skinned - Melee attacks deal less damage to you
• Combo Ender Recharger - Combo Enders recharge the Special Technique Assigned to L2 and Triangle faster

Add Tough Skinned with your extra Strand at this point, so you'll be able to take more of a beating.

Adaptation level 5

• Healing Parry - Parrying an enemy attack restores health
• Rage Intimidation - Entering Rage Tier 2 causes Intimidation on a nearby basic enemy, enabling a critical strike
• Crate Finder - Enhanced Senses can detect material Crates at a greater range and through obstacles

Rage Intimidation is probably the best option here, as it will increase your Rage options and let you take down more enemies faster. At this point you might want to consider swapping Healing Dodge for Healing Parry as well, as you'll be parrying more than dodging.

Adaptation level 6

• Healing crit - Critical Strike restores Health
• Parry Recharge - Parrying an enemy attack recharges the Special Technique assigned to L2 and X
• Enraging Ender - Combo enders build extra Rage

Again, your best option here is to build up your Rage potential with the Enraging Ender Adaptation, letting you fill your meter quicker.

Adaptation level 7

• Dodge Recharge - Dodging an enemy attack recharges the Special Technique assigned to L2 and Circle faster
• Enraging Barrage - Barrages build extra Rage
• Tier 2 Crit - In Rage Tier 2, against a staggered enemy with low health, you can perform Critical Strikes

There are two good options here so its up to you what you want. Enraging Barrage will let you build Rage faster, while Tier 2 Crit will let you do more with Rage when you have it. Your call really.

Adaptation level 8

• Desperate Regeneration - When Health drops below 35% passive regeneration increases until back up to 50%
• Chain Crit - Critical Strikes will ensure a nearby basic enemy is Intimidated. taking the follow up Critical Strike does not ensure an additional intimidation
• Whisky Finder - Enhanced Senses can detect Whisky at a greater range and through obstruction

Go for Chain Crit here as the extra Intimidation will increase your potential attacks once you're in Rage mode. You could also equip which ever one you didn't for the last level, depending on how you're using your Rage ability.

Adaptation level 9

• Enraged Recharge - In Rage Tier 2 the passive recharge rate of all Special Techniques is faster. In Rage Tier 3 the recharge rate increases further
• Rage Longer - Rage Tier 3 has reduced Rage decay
• Leaping Crit - In Rage Tier 3 against basic enemies hold Triangle to perform a Critical Strike

Out of these three, Rage Longer is the most useful, letting you stay in Rage mode for greater periods of time. Obviously that ups your damage potential immensely.

Adaptation level 10

You won't get anymore new Adaptations at this point, just a new Strand to equip an extra one. I would recommend Enraging Barrage, which you unlocked at level 7 as it's one of your core methods to build Rage so you might as well get the most out it.

How long is Marvel's Wolverine? That depends on how you play but you can definitely complete it in under 20 hours. There's a chance you might get stuck on the Marvel's Wolverine Shiro lock code puzzle as well, but I've laid out the solution in the linked guide.

While crossplay refers to your ability to play with others on different platforms to yourself, cross-progression is to do with your own progress, and whether that carries across if you own a game on multiple platforms. With Halloween the Game available on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, both are fair questions, but only one has a good answer, as you'll see below.

Halloween the Game crossplay

Halloween the Game does have crossplay, enabling you to play with others on different platforms to yourself, be they friends or strangers. Therefore, there are two elements to crossplay, and I'll explain below both how to turn crossplay matchmaking on and off in Halloween the Game, as well as how to add friends on other platforms.

If you want to toggle crossplay on or off, head to the Multiplayer Tab, then press Tab on keyboard or the Menu button on any controller, before selecting the Settings option. In Settings, tab across to General, then toggle cross-play matchmaking on or off as you wish.

To add crossplay friends, meanwhile, head to the Multiplayer Tab, then press Tab on keyboard or the Menu button on any controller, before selecting the Friends icon, indicated by three silhouettes of people. Here, you'll see only friends on the same platform as you, whether they own the game or not, so you need to tab across to the Crossplay menu, the second tab on the menu bar, where you'll find your friend code and a box to enter others' codes. On this page, you can either reveal your own unchanging code to send to others, or enter someone else's to send them a friend request.

Halloween the Game cross-progression

Unfortunately, unlike crossplay, there is no cross-progression in Halloween the Game. That means that, if you're playing the game across multiple platforms yourself, your progress, including unlocked customization items, does not carry across. You'll need to complete challenges on all platforms to unlock items on each, and your player level also increases separately.

This also means that any Halloween the Game codes you redeem should be claimed on all platforms separately as well.

The only prerequisite to redeeming codes is that you complete the tutorial first, but you've probably already done that by now. Command an Army codes also aren't case-sensitive, so you only need to worry about spelling, but you can always copy and paste them from my list.

Wardogs PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are confirmed to be on the way but not for a long time, so you'll be waiting a while. The all-out warfare shooter is already a massive hit on Steam, but that's the only mainstream platform you can currently play it on, so you're out of luck if you don't have a PC that can run it – it's nice to know the developers are working on console versions, but the early access period on PC takes priority for now. Anyway, here's everything you need to know about what's going on with Wardogs on consoles and early access plans.

Is Wardogs on consoles?

No, Wardogs is currently only available on PC via Steam, having just released into early access, but there are plans to bring the game to consoles. The problem is a PS5 and Xbox Series X release isn't due until 2028, so it's a long way off.

Given Wardogs' proven popularity – it sold over two million copies in less than a week of early access – perhaps there's a chance developer Bulkhead will shift resources to get console versions out sooner, but that seems highly unlikely. Especially given that it sounds like much of the game's early access development has been planned.

According to the early access notice on the Wardogs Steam page, this period is expected to last one to two years and is dedicated to gathering feedback and "iterating alongside the community", with players helping to shape the game's systems and balancing during development. There are also plans for expansion during early access, with new weapons, maps, and vehicles on the cards, as well as adding more depth to progression systems, rewards, and the seasonal cash meta game.

Bear in mind that Bulkhead have also stated that the full version of the game will be more expensive than the current PC early access build. That currently costs $39.99 /£36.99, so expect the console versions to be more than this.

September 15, 2026: I checked for new Search for the Needle codes and added a brand-new code to the list.

Search for the Needle codes can help you get a leg up when scouring through hay piles for a tiny needle. It's a tiresome task, and any boost that helps you clear the hay that little bit faster is a godsend, be it a useful Class skill like increased earnings or faster hay collection or some more cash to spend on better tools.

Thankfully, these Search for the Needle codes give you exactly that, usually in the form of Gems which you can exchange for Class Rerolls. Be careful, though, as you're not guaranteed a decent class, so think carefully before rerolling. Don't think before redeeming these codes, though, as they can expire at any time.

Battlefield 6 codes have had an unlikely resurgence almost a year after the game launched, offering a fresh wave of cosmetic items to customize your game with. These include various exclusive Titles to display on your Playercard, with some tongue-in-cheek options such as "Skill Issue" and "Battledad", but the best news is that the rewards from these BF6 codes are also unlocked in the free-to-play Battlefield Redsec so anyone can use them. To get involved, here are all of the codes for Battlefield 6 and how to redeem them.

How to redeem Battlefield 6 codes

To redeem BF6 codes, you need to visit the official code redemption page and log in with your EA account. Next, click on the REDEEM button and an "Enter your product code" pop up will appear, with a text box to type in a promo before hitting the Next button. You should then see a "Confirm code activation" pop up stating product Battlefield 6 Reward - [xxx] with the number matching the one shown next to the reward on the list above.

Use the Confirm button to finish this process and claim your reward, but note that expired codes or promos you have used before will still appear on the activation pop up, and an error message won't appear until you hit that Confirm button. Once claimed, your reward will be available next time you log into Battlefield 6 or Redsec, and confirmed by an inbox message.

You must also join the ClickBytes community if you haven't already, but the first time you try to redeem codes, you'll be prompted to do so in-game, meaning you don't have to leave the game to redeem your first code.

September 14, 2026: I had a look for new Kaiju Alpha codes and added a brand-new code to my list for another experience boost!

Kaiju Alpha codes give huge buffs to Exp and cell generation, not only letting you power up faster, but also helping you reach any cell goal you might be headed towards to unlock new Kaiju or Skins.

How to redeem Raid promo codes

To redeem Raid Shadow Legends codes on PC (via Plarium Play only) and Android, all you need to do is tap the three bar icon on the left side of the Bastion screen to open the menu. From there, select the Promo Codes option and then enter a code before hitting Confirm to claim your reward.

However, you can't redeem Raid codes directly through the game on other PC formats or iPhone, so instead you need to visit the official Plarium promo codes website to claim them there. Log in to your linked Plarium account, then use the Enter Promo Code text box to type in a code before hitting Redeem to send your rewards to the game.

Remember, you can only redeem one Raid Shadow Legends promo code per day, regardless of the entry method you use, so make it count!

Halloween the Game codes do exist, but at the moment they're restricted to a single promo in conjunction with the Regal Theatre chain in the US. There is a promo code redemption box in-game, which is how you can redeem one of these codes if you're lucky enough to have one, but I hope this means there'll be more Halloween the Game codes in the future - for all of us.

Halloween the Game codes

As I've mentioned above, the only Halloween the Game redemption codes at the moment are through a collaboration with Regal Theatres. Anyone who is part of the Regal Crown Club and sees any movie from the Halloween Series in one of their theaters automatically gets sent a redemption code for a 3D Glasses cosmetic item for civilians. You'll receive the code to your inbox at the email address associated with your Regal Crown Club account.

You'll also be in with a chance of winning a code for the actual game, if you don't already own it. If you're lucky enough to win and do, you can always get it on a different platform - but be aware that there's no cross-platform saves if you have access to multiple versions.

How to redeem Halloween the Game codes

To redeem Halloween the Game codes, head to the Graveyard tab at the top of the screen, then scroll down to Extras, indicated by three horizontal dots. Here, you'll find the Redeem Codes button where you can open the redemption box, enter your code, and redeem your reward.

If you don't see your rewards after redeeming your code, restart the game, and this should trigger the reward to unlock!

So, it's not great news for everyone yet, but hopefully there will be more Halloween the Game codes added in the future, perhaps in a similar fashion to DBD codes.

Jujutsu Zero codes award you with a variety of items to help you level up your fighting style - and you'll need to fight hard as you embark on any of the dangerous quests this fighting RPG has to offer.

This Roblox experience is also a gacha game, in a way, and you'll need to roll for attacks in special, limited-time banners. The Veil codes can help you to expand your character options as you attempt to endure the mysterious and foreboding labyrinth that stretches ahead of you. Hordes of monsters stand in your way, along with any other players that choose chaos and take a PvP approach to their adventures instead of working together.

The promos you can claim provide free Race Rerolls, which are used to roll the RNG dice in the character creator to give you different base stats to build on, as well as cosmetic items to wear in this roleplaying Roblox experience. To redeem The Veil codes, you first need to join the BlackstarDW Studios community group, which you should do from the Roblox menu before you jump in as I couldn't see a way to join from within the experience. Complete the initial tutorial to learn the controls, then hit the three vertical dots icon at the top of the screen before scrolling down to select the glowing Shop option.

Within the Shop menu, either scroll to the bottom or hit the Codes option on the left to jump straight to it, then use the Redeem codes here! text box to enter a promo and redeem it. Codes for The Veil are case-sensitive so type them carefully, and there is no obvious visual indication that a promo has been successfully redeemed – though you'll see any physical items awarded appear in your inventory at the bottom of the screen.

At the moment there are no expired The Veil codes, as they haven't been part of this experience for long. It's unlikely the launch promos will stick around, so make sure you claim the active promos as soon as possible.

These Mech Arena codes help with the most important part of the game - your Mechs. Whether it's cosmetic skins or powerful weapon upgrades, you want to make sure your Mechs are looking and acting the part, and for that you need Credits, A-Coins, and Crates.

The Arbiter Armor in The Blood of Dawnwalker is pretty clearly the best armor in the game, unlocked as part of the quest "A Bulwark Against Darkness". To craft the Arbiter Armor, you'll need to find four rare ingredients scattered around the map, then find a blacksmith to assemble them, finishing up with a ritual in which you have to kill a bear for some unclear reason. It's definitely worth the effort though, as this is undoubtedly the best armor available, so if you want to complete A Bulwark Against Darkness and get the Arbiter Armor, here's where to go and the locations of all the components.

A Bulwark Against Darkness quest walkthrough for The Blood of Dawnwalker

You'll get the quest A Bulwark Against Darkness in The Blood of Dawnwalker when you're suddenly given a Smuggler's Letter with the components needed to create the Arbiter Armor. There's a few ways that this can happen, but one is to reach Infamy Level 4 and speak to Anca at the Crossroads Inn. She'll tell you that a letter was sent, but this is only one way for it to happen. You can also simply be given the note by a smuggler while exploring Svartrau!

Either way, once you read it, it'll outline the four components needed to create the Arbiter Armor, as well as explaining that you'll need to find a Blacksmith who can combine them.

Where to find all the Components for Arbiter Armor in The Blood of Dawnwalker

There are four ingredients, or components, needed to make the Arbiter Armor in The Blood of Dawnwalker. Some of them can be found in multiple locations, others appear to be unique. Below we've laid out the best places to get them, and will go into greater details for each one further down.

1. Bundle of Silk Threads. Found inside a cavern with a Murohn boss during the "Come Hither" quest.
2. Relic of a Saint. You can get two Relics - the Saint's Tibia and the Relic of St. Tyna - during Anca's quest "Echoes of the Silenced Bells" at St. Tyna's Monastery.
3. Flask of Quicksilver. At the top of Aurelius' tower is a ritual room, inside of which you can find a Flask resting on a desk.
4. Moult of a Large Lizard. On the border of Briar Sloughs and Maragir Wealds is an unmarked cave full of Tatselwurms, and the moult is at the back.

We've also marked the location of the Uriashi Blacksmith, so you can have an NPC who can piece all this stuff together. Keep in mind that before you go about this quest, it might be worth investing in The Blood of Dawnwalker armor proficiency perks, as otherwise the Arbiter Armor may be a bit underwhelming.

Bundle of Silk Threads

There are two Bundles of Silk Threads in Vale Sangora, both found at different The Blood of Dawnwalker Sanzhana locations. One of the fairies, in the "Pearly and Precious" quest, will sell you the threads for 6,000 Denarius, but if you go to the "Come Hither" quest, you'll be tasked to kill a Murohn boss in a cave. In that same arena, resting on a rock, is a bundle of Silk Threads you can grab for free, with no consequences.

Relic of a Saint

There are multiple viable relics you can use for the Arbiter Armor throughout the game, but if you went through Anca's questline at St. Tyna's and did the choice about if you should throw the notes in the fire in The Blood of Dawnwalker, you might already have two of them. The Saint's Tibia is found on a body beside the building that the soldiers are hiding in (as shown above), and you can also use the Relic of St. Tyna that the soldiers ask you to get, though obviously you probably don't want to consume an amulet with an actual function.

If you missed your chance there, you can also find another relic with Lacra in her quest "The Night of Horrors," and purchase relics from Vicho in Svartrau.

Flask of Quicksilver

There's only one flask we know of right now, found at the top of Aurelius' tower in the south of the map. If you've been pursuing the Rebel's questline, you'll eventually be sent here and have to complete The Blood of Dawnwalker Home Sweet Home quest. After doing this, in the topmost room of the tower, to the left of the hanging golem, you can find a flask of quicksilver on the table.

Moult of a Large Lizard

Like with the Flask, there appears to only be one viable item to serve this function that we know of so far. If you head to the area marked East of the Briar Sloughs bog, you can find an unmarked cave with multiple Tatselwurms inside. Kill them, and you can use Focus mode to find an abandoned moult at the back.

How to craft the Arbiter Armor in The Blood of Dawnwalker

After finding all four components, you need to find the Uriashi Blacksmith at the Northwest location marked above. If you've already done the quest for the best weapon in The Blood of Dawnwalker, you'll have already met her.

Either way, come back with all four pieces and she'll begin a ritual wherein you have to kill some spirit wolves and a bear boss fight (at this point in the game you should comfortably know how to handle both). When it's done, the Blacksmith will give you the Arbiter Armor set, divided into the following:

• Enhanced Armor of the Arbiter (Chest)
• Enhanced Shin Guards of the Arbiter (Legs)
• Enhanced Bracers of the Arbiter (Arms)
• Enhanced Boots of the Arbiter (Feet)

This armor is that from the game's cover and promotional artwork, and it's certainly very good for both day and night builds. It offers a wide array of buffs for both human and vampire selves, and is pretty clearly meant to be the game's best armor, with the flavor text practically admitting as such. Make sure you regularly upgrade it so it keeps pace with your own level!

As an asymmetrical multiplayer game, there's a lot to think about when diving into Halloween The Game, not least which side to play on. Playing as Michael pits you against a team of four players all on your own, while playing as a civilian leaves you vulnerable to a deadly killer - and the relative skill of your teammates.

With that in mind, I've collated the main tips I wish I'd known when I first started playing Halloween The Game to help you get a head start no matter which team you play for.

Tips for playing Halloween the Game as a civilian

As survivor, your basic goal is to escape with your life, and if you can take some other Haddonfield residents with you, all the better. However, you can also try to take Michael down, and it's even possible to detain him, so ending you're after, here are my top tips for playing as a civilian.

1. Utilize Residents to do things for you

Alongside the four-man civilian team, there are a few NPC residents dotted around Haddonfield - and even more when the police start to arrive. Don't underestimate these NPCs as they are incredibly useful to you. By triggering and completing a conversation with them, you can ask them to call the police, follow you, or head to an exit if there's one available.

The latter will only increase your points at the end of the game. However, getting NPCs to call the police gets them to arrive much faster, and also helps if you're playing a civilian with a low personality trait, including those who rank highest on my Halloween the Game civilian tier list. You can also hand them weapons, and they'll fight back against Michael if it comes to it.

The best option, though, is to get them to follow you, as they will do all of this off their own back. They're rummage through storage, pick up weapons, and call the police. Just beware that the more people you have with you, the more detectable you'll be to Michael.

2. Call for backup from police and Loomis

As I've mentioned above, calling the police is useful, and you, your teammates, and NPCs call all do so from the many phones found around Haddonfield. You need to pass skill checks while you're own the phone, and the better you do, the more convincing your call will be, but the more calls placed means more police presence - and, eventually, a new exit option.

However, help also comes in the form of Sam Loomis, a character as iconic as Michael and Laurie. Like Tommy from Friday the 13th, if you ever played it, Loomis is a player character, enabling one killed player to return to the game. To call Loomis, keep an eye on the top of the screen for the 'Reinforcements in...' countdown to appear. Once it reaches zero, it will say 'Reinforcements Available', and the message 'CB Radio Activated' also briefly appears on-screen. Now you must find a CB radio somewhere on the map - it'll be highlighted once you're near - from which you can call Loomis. The first player to have died will return immediately unless no one has died at this point. In this case, the first player to die from then will respawn as Loomis. Players who escaped successfully do not respawn.

One more thing, be sure to pay attention to your map as a civilian. If you do respawn as Loomis, your map markers will reset, but you do spawn in with a gun and 12 bullets, so that's something.

Explore the whole map to reveal locations

Rather than staying where you spawned and meticulously searching every nook and cranny for items, it's best to try and quickly explore as much of the map as possible, as finding important locations, including all of the Halloween the Game escape methods like the car and hatches, will then cause them to show on your map. This way, when you do find the items you need to open the various exits, you'll know where to go. This is much better than getting your hopes up when you find a gas can, only to never find the car. Of course you should still have a bit of a look around as you go, but don't waste too much time opening every drawer.

But do look for a weapon early

While I've said don't take too much time to look around at first, you should keep your eye out for a weapon as soon as possible. If (and when) Michael does find you, you can try and wiggle free once you know how to complete the skill check, but you're guaranteed an extra chance at life if you're carrying a small weapon like a pocket or butterfly knife. You can use it when grabbed by Michael to briefly stun him. They also only take up on small inventory slot.

Meanwhile, larger weapons like guns and axes take up their own slot, and can be used to fight back before Michael even grabs you. You can even down him with enough hits - but he won't stay down for long. Down him enough times with enough manpower to support you, and you can detain him for good. Well, until the next time he breaks out.

Tips for playing Halloween the Game as Michael

As Michael, your main goal of course is to kill everyone, which includes three 'special targets', five NPC residents, and the four player civilians. There are the policemen that are called to the scene, as well as Sam Loomis, if he's called in, but you don't have to kill them. Interestingly, though, and fairly faithful to Halloween lore, once you've killed the 12 main victims, Michael can escape. So, if you're picking up the mantle of the infamous fictional killer, here are my top tips.

1. Play single-player

One of the greatest advantages you have as a Michael player is the single-player mode where you can home your skills against NPCs while completing various chapters based on the franchise's iconic movies.

Here, you'll learn how to kill, how to use your skills, how Michael moves, and most other factors about the character that you can take into the multiplayer mode.

2. Use your skills well

Naturally, Michael's powerful skills each have a cooldown, so you should get used to using them at the right time. For example, you might want to save his something ability for when you find a resident or are near police, as knocking out nearby lights will prevent you from being seen. Similarly, the something ability, which allows you to briefly reveal the location of civilians, wears off fast, so pair this with the something skill to get sneak up on players and NPCs quickly and efficiently. Remember, they'll be warned when they've been detected, so they'll move out of the area hastily.

3. Don't waste time on one civilian

Speaking of civilians moving hastily, don't ever waste your time chasing one who's running away from you well. You can dedicate a bit of time to chasing them, but if it's clear they're giving you the run around, it's worth moving on. All the time you're chasing them, someone else is likely already opening another exit, so trigger that something skill and move out of the area, keeping the pressure up on the entire map instead of one localized zone.

4. Concentrate on kill skill checks and don't look for special kills

When you have a victim in your grasp, you can find special environmental kills around you that trigger a unique kill animation. However, to do so, you'll have to be able to carry the writhing character to the marked destination.

Trust me, I know it's tempting to try and find as many cool kills as you can, and you're more free to do so when killing an NPC, but if you've a player character at your mercy, concentrate on killing them as soon as possible with regular skill checks or a held weapon. Carried civilians are given skill checks when you have a hold of them, and they can wiggle free quickly if you give them the chance - so don't.

With all of this in mind, you should have a slightly easier time getting to grips with Halloween the Game, allowing you to just enjoy the carnage and the recognizable locations a bit more.

As a civilian, knowing all the ways to escape in Halloween the Game is the only way you're going to stand a chance to get away from Haddonfield before Michael Myers gets his hands on you.

There are a few different Halloween the Game exits, and you need to find different elements to open them, so knowing which exits require which items and tools and how to find them is necessary to getting out alive.

All Halloween the Game escapes

There are four main ways to escape Haddonfield on any of the Halloween the Game maps. They are:

• Cellar hatches
• The Sedan
• Gate exit
• Police escort

The easiest of these is the cellar hatch, as even the most difficult can be opened with the fewest items, followed by the powered gate. Getting away in the car, meanwhile, requires a few more things to come together in your favor, but is certainly possible, especially if you're working as a team. Finally, there's the police exit, which is simple in itself, but doesn't activate until later in the game. Here's each of them explained in more detail:

Cellar hatch escape

This is the easiest way to escape and, if you're lucky, you can even make it happen quite quickly. There are usually a couple of different hatches on each map, and they each have various requirements. While they're all locked, one might be covered with leaves while another can be blocked with wood you need to cut through. If you're really lucky, you may find a hatch that's only locked with no other requirements, and this is obviously the quickest and easiest escape of all.

What's even better is that you can open the padlock with either a key or boltcutters, so the odds are really in your favor, as long as you can find the hatch itself.

Sedan car escape

To get out alive in the sedan car, you need to find a total of four things: the sedan key, a gas can, a repair kit, and the car itself, which is a big ask. As I've mentioned in my Halloween The Game tips guide, it's best to check out as much of the map as possible as quickly as possible, and the main reason for this is the car. At least once you've found it, if you are lucky enough to find all three of the other items, you'll know where to head with them.

Gate escape

On the outskirts of the town, you're able to find a powered gate, which lets you out once you have two things: a bolt cutter or exit key and a fuse. This was one of the hardest escapes due to the rarity of fuses, but they seem to be more common now. There is also a chance you'll need a hatchet to destroy boards blocking the gate, making this exit slightly more troublesome.

Police escape

There are a couple of ways to escape via the police, but the main one is to make enough successful calls to the cops that a police wagon turns up. Once on the map, you can simply head into the back of the van for a safe exit. This requires an additional phone call to the police once the full three-star alert level has been reached.

The other method can be done much sooner but isn't as easy. You can escape in any of the police cars that appear throughout the match, but you'll need a police person's car key to do so, which can be found on a dead cop's corpse. Eek.

Sanzhani in The Blood of Dawnwalker are blue fairies found around the world and multiple quests, all of which collectively result in a great reward: more time! The Sanzhani are all around Vale Sangora to find, with five of them hidden in quests like Come Hither and Burrow Sorrows, and while each encounter comes with its own rewards, most of them are fairly nondescript unless you can complete them all. Not only that, but you'll be able to converse with your sister Lunka, gaining small amounts of information about the final mission in the process.

If you want to find all the Sanzhani, I'll explain where to discover them all below, as well as what you need to know about each encounter.

Where to find all Sanzhana in The Blood of Dawnwalker

There are 5 different encounters with the Sanzhana in Dawnwalker, all laid out on the map and table below.

1. Good Home. Found in the Svartrau Outskirts, we recommend doing this Sanzhana quest first. You'll meet a girl called Heile who sends you on a quest to find her brother, with some small encounters with wolves and some investigation along the way. Once you reunite them, you'll meet the Sanzhana Tsarina, who gives you the first chance to message Lunka.
2. Come Hither. West of Tantari and South of Svartrau, you'll encounter a crying Sanzhana who asks you to see if any of her brethren have survived a monster attack: specifically, one of the Murohn bosses. Kill the Murohn and you complete the quest. You can also find Silk Threads for free in that boss arena, used to make The Blood of Dawnwalker Arbiter Armor.
3. Tiny Dancer. In Svartrau itself, there's a night-time mission wherein you break into a house and free another Sanzhana from a merchant by taking the key and opening her cage. This also gives you a chance to loot some silver from the Merchant, among other things.
4. Burrow Sorrows. North of Rockfalls you'll meet a Sanzhana who asks you to kill some kobolds that have apparently taken her burrow and her charm. Once you kill them and bring it back, she'll let you keep it anyway.
5. Pearly and Precious. In the North Boar's Back forest, tracks will lead you to a Sanzhana who loots bodies, and sends you to make some more out of the bandits nearby. She'll pay you for their teeth, but whatever you do, don't buy the Silk Threads from her. As mentioned, you can get them for free in the Come Hither quest, and you'll only need one.

You don't have to do these quests in any specific order, but we do recommend doing the Good Home one first, as it properly sets up the Sanzhana as a part of the game.

After each quest, you can go back to the Yawning Burrow (where the Sanzhana Tsarina is encountered) and ask her to send a new letter to Lunka with a question. The replies will appear in your inventory the next time the day/night cycle changes, and while they can give small details about Brencis and his castle, they're not essential.

However, once you've done all five quests, the Sanzhana will grant you an extra 24 hours of time on top of your standard 30 day countdown! It's a nice gift, though doing all five quests above means you technically already spent about half of it at least. Oh well.

Not only that, but Wild Swing can be used to discard damaged Pokemon that might otherwise be a weak point. If Sharpedo is badly hurt, you can deny your opponent the Cyrus-drawn victory by having Gyarados send it to the discard pile.

Home Sweet Home in The Blood of Dawnwalker is a looping puzzle quest in which Coen is trapped in a cyclical nightmare and must work out how to escape while fighting off numerous enemies. The problem is that the nightmare didn't bring in your equipment, so Coen is going to be fighting these enemies in a very suboptimal state without any good swords or armor. If you want to know how to escape Home Sweet Home and break the loop in Dawnwalker, here's a full quest walkthrough to take you through it.

Full walkthrough for Home Sweet Home in The Blood of Dawnwalker

After searching for the Astrologer in the Tower in the "Who Pulls the Strings" quest, finding him will trigger a nightmare delusion in which Coen is sent to his family. Here are the steps needed to escape.

1. Speak with your father. You're given the option to split logs for firewood, but it doesn't matter if you do or don't.
2. Speak with your family in the kitchen to trigger a cutscene that ends in a monster attack.
3. Loot the area for healing items, then carry on down the path. You'll then have to fight several spirit skeletons to save your mother. Without access to your gear, this might take a while, so play defensively and don't let yourself get hurt unnecessarily.

4. After speaking with Esme, carry on, looting containers as you go. You'll make it to a large garden with several spectres to fight. Focus on the red one first, as it's the most dangerous and can drain your health from a distance.
5. After the fight, speak to your siblings, and carry on towards the church. Here you'll have a boss fight with the Keeper of Nightmares, a boss that matches the one you fought earlier outside of the tower. Focus on evasion and counterattacks, as these leave it open and can even knock it out of the air if you parry a flying attack.
6. After this there'll be a scene in the church, and then you'll wake back up at step 1.

7. Repeat steps 1 to 4 until you've killed the spectres again. This time, the well in the courtyard will be covered in ice. Interact with it. This will trigger a cutscene where you speak with your reflection.
8. When it's done, there'll be a trail of snow leading from the well to a southern cliff, and you'll have your Shadowstep teleport back. Teleport to the top of the cliff and through the caves beyond until you reach a red portal at the end.

9. You'll appear at a funeral where the priest is giving a sermon and have to interact with certain characters in a certain order to continue the sermon. The order is: Alin (The Coffin) / Esme (next to the Coffin) / Coen (front pew, by himself).
10. Leave the funeral by the back when indicated, running after the boy through another red portal.
11. In the forests beyond, you'll arrive in a meadow with a big tree where you can interact with several objects to uncover character and story details. Once you've interacted with the skates, you'll be able to move on.

12. Follow the indicated path West until you appear at the top of the cliff, and Clawride your way down (if you jump, you'll die).
13. At the bottom, interact with Alin and speak with him. This will end the dream sequence and you'll finally be back in the Tower, having completed the quest!

Now finally free, you'll be able to claim your rewards, which include the Legendary Astrologer's Ring, which grants numerous buffs to your Witchcraft abilities and Activation Charge stats. While here, you should also grab the Flask of Quicksilver on the desk, which is needed for the The Blood of Dawnwalker Arbiter Armor.

The Nintendo 64 is now 30 years old, and the question of how to actually play N64 games today is more relevant than ever. Yes, the short answer involves simply getting hold of Ninty's first 3D system, but the original retro console is a bit of an oddball. Therefore, it's well worth putting a bit of love into your modern setup, whether you opt for the OG hardware, a fancy HDMI remake, or an emulation-based solution.

No, I'm not dunking on the N64, as I fully believe it's one of the best retro consoles ever created. That doesn't mean it's not a bit of a dorkus, though, as some of Nintendo's design decisions haunt the original hardware experience today. I've been wrestling with this problem child in my collection for decades now in an attempt to retain reliable, authentic access to familiar classics like Super Mario 64 and Donkey Kong 64 alongside lesser-known personal favorites like Body Harvest and Quest 64, so I've got years of advice to share.

Plenty of fresh-faced players have emerged since 1996 who didn't grow up with the Nintendo 64, not to mention it's likely imprisoned in the attics of those who did. Therefore, I'd say now is the perfect time to dive into how to play N64 games, and that journey starts with dusting off those old consoles, cartridges, and that funky spaceship controller (no, you don't need three hands).

N64 original console versus emulation

Yes, I know you're itching to play some of the best N64 games out there (or even the stinkers if you live for the jank). However, I'd have a long, hard think about where you want to play your desired Nintendo 64 capers and the level of authenticity you seek, as there are two paths you can follow that'll either get you playing Ninty's early 3D adventures on real hardware or via emulation.

Okay, yes, there is a secret third path to playing N64 games thanks to the powers of FPGA tech. If you have the funds for something like the all-singing, all-dancing 4K Analogue 3D, you can embrace full hardware accuracy while plugging straight into a modern display and having heaps of settings at your disposal. We'll get to why that could be well worthwhile for some of you, but the traditional split is between using your carts with an actual system or backing them up for use in a software emulator.

Keep in mind that there's more to both original N64 console setups and DIY setups beyond this simple rundown. That said, you should have more of an idea which route you want to take, meaning you can focus on the specific way you want to play gems like Majora's Mask and Perfect Dark.

Using an original N64 console

Before discovering why the N64 is a bit of a bugger to use today, you'll need to actually grab the system. Kudos to you if you've still got one to hand, be it still in your living room or in a dusty old box, but if you've yet to own one, you'll need to hit up the second-hand market for your very own Nintendo 64 (exciting).

Retro console prices fluctuate constantly, but right now, you're looking at around the $80 mark on eBay in the US for an N64 with cables. The UK tends to get listings for around the £60 mark, but again, you might find consoles for more or less than that at your local game stores, thrift shops, or flea markets. You absolutely will pay more if you go to somewhere like GameStop or CeX in the UK, though, with both selling systems for $129.99 and £85 respectively.

Those guide prices are for a standard black N64 model, so keep that in mind if you'd prefer a funky translucent Funtastic console or the rare Pikachu model. While I'm about to dive straight into everything you'll need to get all those systems up and running, I would keep the optional RAM Expansion Pack in mind while hunting, as if you can bag one already installed without paying over the odds, you'll be able to instantly play games like DK64, Majora's Mask, and Perfect Dark.

What you'll need

If you're lucky enough to still have a CRT TV, or even an older LCD with composite or S-Video, you can plug your cables in right now and start playing. It's safe to say that won't apply to the majority of you, though, even if I do personally think the ultimate way to play N64 games is via the retro scanlines produced by old tube sets.

Therefore, your first port of call is figuring out how to connect the retro console to a modern TV or monitor. That effectively boils down to taking an N64 S-video or composite cable and converting the old analogue video into a digital signal over HDMI, and there are a bunch more ways to do that compared to even just ten years ago.

Connecting an N64 to your modern screen

I need to hold the N64's hand when I say this, but the console's visuals look really scrappy on modern displays. It's not really the Nintendo 64's fault, as it was designed for a world dominated by CRT TVs, and its visuals are designed with proper pixel separation, shadow masks, and lower native resolutions in mind.

That is to say that when you do use an adapter or upscaler to get N64 visuals on your TV, they might look a bit unsightly at 4K. The fact that Nintendo chose to skip clean RGB output and stick with just composite and S-Video for its first 3D console really doesn't help, but effects like anti-aliasing and dithering baked into games by developers are also at play.

With that in mind, I need you to curb your expectations when it comes to original N64 graphics on new displays, especially larger 4K displays. Native graphics will look a bit muddy, but the right gadgets can make the best of a bad visual situation. That starts with using S-video where you can rather than composite to avoid that "Vasoline" effect, which will then provide your chosen upscaler with the cleanest signal possible without modding.

The issue is that retro cables are becoming increasingly more expensive, and when it comes to the N64, quality really matters. If you want to avoid the blight of interference or brightness issues, you'll want to grab something from the likes of Retro Gaming Cables for around £21 ($28), but ironically, the UK company's cables are only for NTSC systems, and unless you have an early PAL unit, S-video won't be an option at all.

Yes, this is already getting pretty messy, but if you're looking for a straight, simple HDMI solution, you can go with a simple passthrough adapter. Options by the likes of Kaico will pull the available signal and convert it to HDMI, but again, the results will look rough without any upscaling applied.

Provided you're not fussy about clarity, N64 passthrough adapters may serve you well. Those of you who'd rather crisp things up will need to consider a dedicated upscaler, and my go-to affordable option is the OSSC. Unlike traditional upscalers, the Open Source Scan Converter uses line doubling to increase the horizontal resolution of RGB signals, leading to far cleaner results and next to no input lag.

The catch? Well, the N64 can't natively do RGB, so you'll need to also pick up a composite transcoder. I happen to use a really old Sony unit that converts things into a red, blue, and green signal the OSSC can use over SCART, but add-on boards for the upscaler and alternatives like the ODV-II will help with compatibility.

Alternatively, there's also a "Pro" version of the GBS-C, the upscaler featured in my how to play PS2 games guide. It's not my preferred N64 upscaler, but it will provide you with on-board composite and S-Video, saving you from daisy-chaining devices. Of course, you can also branch out into premium options by RetroTINK (like the newly announced 1440p 6X CE) or Morph 2K, but you're talking much higher price tags for FPGA features and elevated results.

N64 mods

If you're up for a bit of modding, you can help the N64 really shine as part of a modern setup. A bit of tinkering can not only give the console enhanced abilities, but it can even solve some of the connectivity woes already mentioned by enabling RGB output or even adding an HDMI port for extra convenience.

RGB modding your N64 will help provide upscalers with the cleanest N64 signal possible. If you're up for a bit of soldering, kits are available at AliExpress that will allow you to use SCART or component cables with an NTSC console's Multi Out port. However, if you want the highest quality parts possible, and PAL compatibility to boot, it's best to invest in a Tim Worthington board since it'll also de-blur games.

Alternatively, you can HDMI mod your N64 using affordable kits, and it will save you from using a standalone upscaler. Kits by the likes of Highspeedio are available for under $40 and will extract a clean signal straight from the console's PPU that's then outputted at 720p, and the results aren't too shabby. You can spend more on higher-res parts like the UltraHDMI, but I'd say the difference is minimal considering the price gap.

FPGA hardware

Yes, getting clean visuals out of a real N64 is hard work, and that has fuelled a demand for FPGA tech that can replicate the original hardware and strip out the caveats. That's exactly what you'll get when investing in an Analogue 3D, as it's designed to mimic the innards of the console with 100% accuracy while enabling invaluable features and scaling up to 4K.

For all intensive purposes, the Analogue 3D is an N64. Or, at least it thinks it is one on a hardware level, as it boasts 100% compatibility with the console's library. Sure, if you're a speedrunner or rely on cycle accuracy, you're still better off sticking with the real deal, but you're otherwise getting complete original support for carts, controllers, and accessories alongside convenient HDMI output.

On top of that, the Analogue 3D can also tap into some pretty impressive features, including a library that will track your carts, screenshots, and save states. The FPGA chipset can even overclock games that need a performance boost and even disable dithering, blur effects, and anti-aliasing to clean up visuals. The real game-changer, though, is the 3D's "Original Display Modes", which effectively mimic the look of CRT screens using model-specific scanline, shadow mask, and Aperture Grille effects.

Throw some of the 3D's latest horizontal resolution upscaling tricks into the mix, and you've got one of the best-looking N64 experiences out there. Analogue isn't the only one with an FPGA alternative, though, as you can put together your own MiSTer setup using specific cores and run your ROMs with similar hardware accuracy.

Controllers, accessories, and add-ons

In typical Nintendo fashion, there's a wealth of N64 accessories out there, both original and brand new. Some add-ons, like the Rumble Pak for adding controller vibration and the Memory Pak for saving non-gameplay data, are optional, but there are absolutely a few mandatory gadgets I'd look at right away.

The first is, surprise surprise, a gamepad, as Mario isn't going to be doing sweet backflips without one. Picking up the OG accessory will keep things authentic, but it also means dealing with its weird three-grip trident ergonomics and worn, wobblily joysticks that are prone to stick drift and response issues.

The quick solution here is to pick up a redesigned retro controller that boasts Nintendo 64 compatibility. One of my personal favorites, the 8BitDo N64 controller, launched alongside the Analogue 3D and adds Nintendo's specific layout to a contemporary shell while adding Bluetooth or 2.4GHz capabilities.

If you'd rather just use Switch, PS5, or Xbox controllers you've got lying around, I'd also recommend picking up a Blueretro Bluetooth adapter. This doohickey will let you sync four pads wirelessly, meaning you won't be caught short when hosting a GoldenEye sleepover.

As convenient as opting for a new controller is, especially those with improved ergonomics and Hall effect sticks, I get why you perhaps want to stick with the OG pad. Those of you in this camp may want to consider fixing up the real deal with new parts as a compromise, as you can swap out worn-out old thumbsticks for something newer.

I'm lucky enough to still have box-fresh pads, but I have dabbled with modding N64 controllers with hall effect thumbsticks. If you opt for something by the likes of Hyperkin ($14.99 at Amazon, FYI), you'll get the feel of a GameCube-style stick and something that's immune to stick drift, and I can confirm it provides almost the same level of input range and accuracy as the old optical-mechanical stick.

Outside of picking up a controller, you'll also want to pre-emptively consider picking up an N64 Expansion Pak. The memory upgrade module that goes in that front slot is technically optional, but without one, you won't be able to run some of the console's greatest outings, like Majora's Mask, Donkey Kong 64, or Perfect Dark. Therefore, I'd nip things in the bud and get one from day one.

What I will say is that the N64 Expansion Pak is pretty pricey for what it is, and no, it's not thanks to RAMageddon. You're looking at around $50 at eBay for the original accessory, and there's a distinct lack of new third-party options out there. The easiest way to identify an actual memory module is usually the red plastic grill at the top, but some old unofficial versions have extra funky covers that replace the original flap.

On that note, you'll also want to make sure you don't pick up a standard Jumper Pak like the all-black one that's already in your console, as while that will allow you to power things on if it was missing, it won't give you the required memory boost for specific games. I've noticed an increase in second-hand sellers listing the dummy bridge Paks as Expansion Paks, and AliExpress has a nasty habit of confusingly calling them "Expansion Cards".

While we're on the subject of memory, I'm hesitant to completely dub the Memory Pak for game saves as mandatory. However, there are specific releases that require it for game saves, like Doom 64, Turok, and Rayman 2: The Great Escape. For that reason, I do think it's worth picking one up before you start diving back into carts, but if you opt for a Blueretro Wireless Adapter or the 8Bitdo N64 controller, both actually come with storage included that's detected as a memory card.

The biggest nuance tied to using a Memory Pak is that it then occupies your controller slot, preventing you from also using gadgets like the Rumble Pak or Transfer Pak for Pokémon Stadium. Third parties once sold units that combined the two functions and allowed you to toggle them with a switch, but those can be harder to find today and pricey to boot.

Playing cartridges on the N64

With the core of your N64 setup in place, you're ready to jam those old cartridges into your system. Theoretically, that's as simple as grabbing a cart, popping it into the top loading slot, and flicking the switch, but there are hurdles that can lead to a dreaded black screen.

The first isn't exclusive to the Nintendo 64, as it ties to the cartridge contacts. If your carts are dusty, dirty, or potentially even corroded, they might not work on your console, and the quickest fix is to give them a quick clean with a Q-tip and some 99% isopropyl alcohol. You can also grab cleaning kits, but those can be pretty pricey compared to DIY solutions.

I'm not going to lecture you about blowing into the cartridge like a harmonica, as for some of you, it's part of the experience. Just know that if you do it, though, you're contributing to the very issues you're trying to sort, as the moisture from your breath can corrode the pins over time. Yes, it's a quick way to remove dust, but I'd get yourself some supplies so you can keep old adventures spittle free.

The other stumbling block ties to region locking, as Nintendo really didn't want you importing games back in 1996. To hinder you from doing so, it made physical tweaks to the carts and slot so that they don't fit, but you can actually play Japanese games in an American N64 and vice versa with a really simple mod.

Effectively, the only thing stopping NTSC games running on every system is a plastic insert. It's designed to line up with cut outs on the cart, with Japanese games using squares and USA releases featuring narrower corner indents. If you pop the top off your N64, you can replace the cartridge tray with one missing the notches, either via 3D printing or pre-made kits at Amazon, which will then let you insert every cartridge type.

The catch is that while it will also let you insert PAL region games, those still won't run on your NTSC system. The reason is explicitly tied to technical differences with the encoding system standards, with European and Australian games being designed to run at 50Hz instead of 60Hz. You can get around this by using old region adapters like the N64 Passport that spoof compatibility by using two carts simultaneously, but the results are unpredictable.

If you'd rather avoid fumbling around with multiple carts, and fancy diving into the wonderful world of N64 homebrews, you'll also want to consider a flash cart. I can personally vouch for the SummerCart64 ($87.99 at Amazon), as the open-source accessory lets you load your collection onto an included 8GB SD card and even simulate N64 Disc Drive games. I've been primarily using it to check out fantastic Zelda ROM hacks, and it works well on both OG hardware and the Analogue 3D.

The Summercart64 also solves the issue of region locking, as it's designed to fit in every model and cater to PAL and NTSC. There's specifically a modal option for setting your TV type for each game, which is incredibly handy if you're trying to avoid playing imports in black and white on an old CRT or region-specific screen.

My N64 won't show up on my TV

If you've got an HDMI adapter or upscaler plugged into your N64 and you're still not getting an image, you'll want to check your connection type and console model. Later revisions of systems, like the NUS-CPU-P-02 and the pretty Pikachu edition, actually lack S-video, so if you've got that cable specifically plugged into a upscaling device, it's not going to work. There's also a chance you've got an RGB cable plugged in, which also isn't going to output an image since the Nintendo 64 natively lacks support.

Failing that, you should also check your Jumper/Expansion Pak is properly inserted and that your games are clean. Both can result in games not starting up, meaning you'll get a black screen.

My cartridge won't fit

Over the years, N64 games for overseas have made their way to different countries. That means you could end up trying to insert a Japanese game into an American console, and thanks to specific notches inside, that's not going to work. If you're itching to play in import, you can modify your system by replacing the internal cart tray plastic, but PAL region games will require special adapters.

My N64 joystick is wobbly

Finding N64 controllers with a joystick that doesn't wobble is becoming a rarity, and it's caused by wear and tear. Years of swinging Bowser around causes the optical-mechanical mechanism inside to grind away the bottom bowl, meaning there's extra space at the bottom. The quick fix for this is to replace the internal module either using a like-for-like replacement or a new hall-effect thumb stick, with the latter ensuring stick-drift is a thing of the past.

It's needless to say that while playing on real hardware is a treat, plenty of you will be looking to emulate N64 games. The issue is that unlike other consoles from the '90s, the Nintendo 64 is notoriously difficult to emulate using software, and while there are solid options for playing, your milage will vary based on your device.

What you will need

One of the biggest challenges you'll face trying to play your N64 cartridges on other devices is actually getting them on there. Yes, you will need to own an actual cartridge and a the real console regardless, as you'll otherwise be sailing the seven seas of piracy. Even then, the whole process should be strictly for private use, and if you'd rather steer clear of legal grey areas and long-standing arguments that extracting ROMs is a copyright infringement, you might want to just stick with licenced ports of classics.

Yes, I know being told to consider a modern console for N64 games isn't ideal, but the Switch will provide you 44 classics without faffing with emulators and ROMs. You'll also be able to use authentic controllers like the 8Bitdo N64 controller or Ninty's own NSO Nintendo 64 controller, so you won't be stuck with JoyCons or a modern pad. What you won't have is access to specific options and overlay settings, but in return, you're getting set, reliable performance.
